Review La Spiaggia - Coogee

Ordered in store for take away. Great pizzas. But forgot to include ham on one of my pizzas, and didn’t include the garlic bread we ordered. Would be more understanding if the restaurant was under the pump, but it was completely empty. Pretty slack.

Fantastic pizzas. We usually order take away pizzas from La Spiaggia and eat them at the beach. Our favourite is the $15 Margherita pizza. Their $20 calzone is great too.

Absolutely wonderful .. had the freshest most delicious diavola. The staff is super nice and friendly

My husband and I got two take away pizzas and they were delicious - thin, easy to digest and with high quality toppings. The service was also fast and lovely. We will definitely be back to dine in as well!

Friendly and caring staff. Great food and relatively quick even if there are lots of people. Visit frequently and always happy. Pizza is great and definitely hits the spot!

After working 14hrs as a Nurse, all I was looking forward to was the food this restaurant makes to perfection every time. Ordered through Uber eats and paid for priority delivery. The driver gave my food to another customer. I called the driver who said he would go and pick up my food straight away. Never heard from the driver again. But Morris the owner of La Spiaggia (during a busy Friday night) was nothing but wonderful. Offered to make me a fresh order (even though it was entirely Ubers fault) Apologised and offered to contact Uber too. If I thought the food was phenomenal, it was surpassed only by the superior customer service Morris and the restaurant provided. I won’t go anywhere else. The food is fresh, packaged beautifully, tastes so damn good. I could have been told to just contact Uber. Like many of us have been. But Morris and La Spiaggia care about their food, the quality of service and most of all, their customers. This place is simply amazing. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Really nice Italian restaurant. Great service, great food. Price is a little bit high but for the good quality food, it’s acceptable. We went for birthday dinner, from the starter drinks to the after drink and dessert are all very good quality. Waiters and waitresses are friendly, food served very fast. Nothing really to complain about. The only downside probably will be, if you drive here, it’s hard to find parking. Because it’s a really busy beach area and lots residents live around the restaurant. But overall, I had a really good experience here, definitely recommend to people who want to taste good Italian food.

Booked for dinner with a small group. I had the tortellini boscaiola which was delicious. For desert we shared the profiteroles which was also delicious. Staff were friendly and nice. I would recommend this place, the only thing is they are a bit expensive in my opinion.

Lovely first meal in Coogee yesterday. The service was extremely polite and friendly. The entrees of bruschetta and calamari were nice but not amazing. The bruschetta was sweet & the calamari was a bit rubbery. I did love the margherita pizza I ordered for main. It was simple but done really nicely. The tomato paste was slight sweet, the cheese was creamy and salty & the pizza base was thin and cooked through. I didn’t order any dessert.

It's nice to step off Coogee Bay Road and into a place like this, while packed it's still an antidote to the madness of the Pavilion and Coogee Bay Hotel. It bills itself as a family restaurant and I'm sure it is, though I think Nonna might need to come back and give the menu a closer look. The pasta is a hit, and after a tough decision we went with the green spaghetti with prawns and julienne zucchini, which came just as it sounds, although in a tomato based sauce. It was delicious however the main act didn't live up to the opening number. The Pollo alla Saltimbocca is a sliced breast of chicken, topped with prosciutto and sage, sautéed in white wine and butter sauce. Very promising, but was a little dry. The other main was a crumbed veal cutlet, which came just by itself with a few vegetables - no sauce at all. It looked like it was off the bistro menu at my local, which was not what I was hoping for. The dessert menu was also a little lacking in imagination, with the usual tiramisu, affogato, and surprisingly a 'creme caramel' instead of a panna cotta. Three stars.

Very pleasant little Italian restaurant. Ideal for a quiet dinner. Penne Meatballs are pretty damn good. Pizza with Hot Salami was fantastic but unlike most the Hot Salami truly is quite hot.

I had a very enjoyable night at La Spaggia, with some extra tasty bites. Started my meal off with Arancinie E Crochette Italian rice balls and potato croquettes. The rice ball had to be my favourite. I guess thats the asian in me. I always find the rice dish a favourite. With a squishy texture it gives it that fun feeling in your mouth. Both balls were seasoned perfectly and the pea taste in the potato ball gave me a full flavour bite that I thoroughly enjoyed.
For my main meal I had to go with the Fettuccine Marinara with homemade ribbon pasta tossed in a thick tomato sauce with fresh local mussels, prawns, calamari and scallops. I have to say that seafood and pasta are a mix that bring two beautiful elements of food together in a glorious way. All the seafood was absolutely cooked to utter perfection with a sweet seafood taste mixing with the aromatic tomato sauce. It all melted in my mouth and gave my palette a wonderful sensation.
I would absolutely recommend this place for some of the best Italian food I’ve had so far.

La Spiaggia was fantastic! My pizza was probably the best and most authentic Italian pizza I’ve had since I was in Italy. Wood fired, thin and crispy base, huge size, delicious toppings. The cheese was so flavoursome. My partner had a pasta, which was also great. Good menu with all the classics and good variety. Service was friendly and efficient. Nice wine menu, and the glasses of wine were very generous! A little pricey, but to be expected for the area, and good value for the serving sizes and quality of food. Cosy and romantic setting, and you couldn’t overhear the other tables around you. Family friendly. Lovely dinner!

Great local restaurant with delicious food and very friendly service. Good for families with a wide range of options and a yum, simple kids menu. I highly recommend the penne meatballs! Also has great takeaway options for a relaxed meal on Coogee Beach.

A friend of mine goes here all the time and recommend it to me. Quite a big restaurant, it was extremely busy and full so I would recommend booking. Tables were nicely set up with wine glasses. We sat in the back section. The waiter was very attentive at the start (though after we got our meals and he checked how they were going, he didn't really come back and we wanted some more drinks).
The menu is quite large and has antipasto, entrees, pastas, woodfired pizzas and secondi (meals). Our group tried the tomato gnocchi - home made - this was extremely good. The pizzas were also excellent and my chicken scallopini was also nice.
Hubby got the special - the osso bucco which he said was ok. Our arancini entree was also quite flavoursome. Food came out quickly and all well cooked. The restaurant is quite expensive I think to comparative places of a similar standard.

Great place and pizzas are perfectly prepared and cooked in wood fired oven. The base is a traditional thin Romano style with fresh toppings. I rate the pizzas close to best in Coogee. The Fettuccini Marina was tasty, with nice variety of fresh fish. I changed it from its tomato base on the menu to al bianco (the real way to have pasta marina)...waiter was only to happy to accommodate. They serve Menabrea Italian premium beer which was icy cold and super smooth. Pizzas cost b/w $20-$30, beers $7-$9 for 330ml. Its a busy place and you need to book. It not for the romantics but you wont be disappointed with the quality of food and beverage selection.

Pizza was a 10/10
Customer service was average, nothing to complain about however.

The restaurant has good atmosphere. Juicy thin pizza. Tasty. Service can be better though. It is not that there are not enough waiters, some training may help them to spot customers who need service.

Really nice pizzas and pasta, relaxed and modern atmosphere, and the mid-week early-bird dinner special is good value. A regular go-to for local families.

A brilliantly authentic Italian meal. The staff here are so helpful and were really good with bringing the meals out at the right time especially as we such a large group. The pasta was second to none even though we ordered off the menu. Personally really like the Juventus pictures just topped off the authenticity. Definitely would recommend

The prices seemed pretty standard for Italian, but with a great location, interesting menu, good service and atmosphere, it was better than expectations. The food came out quickly too despite being very busy. I will definitely be back.

It seemed that most of the staff were Italian which helped create the genuine Italian feel from the beginning. They handled my requests for no cheese with good humour, but made sure that no cheese came anywhere near my dishes. The service was friendly and professional without being snobby.
I had the spaghetti bolognese (boring, I know) which had a lovely rich meat sauce and the pasta was al dente. My wife had the fettuccini marinara which described as delicious and as good as her favourite in Melbourne. Our meal was accompanied by a very generous Mediterranean salad; nice and fresh.
Not cheap but worth the money.
Lunch Pie
Can't say I was impressed by this place. Had to ask 3 times for water to be brought to the table. Quite a pricey menu and I can't say the food was anything special. Got the steak and my partner had some seafood dish. We could have cooked nicer at home

Pathetic service. Disrespectful wait staff! Customer service non existent.

We were ignored by wait staff. Requested table water. None provided.

Only one main was brought out and my dining partner had to sit and watch me eat. My partner insisted I eat my meal rather than wait til his arrived. I finished my meal and my partners meal had still not arrived. We had enough after waiting an hour in total. As we went to pay at the counter they brought out the pizza that we were waiting for. We advised we will not be paying for it. Further we advised from a service perspective this is unacceptable especially from an establishment that wants to be known for its fine dining.

Their excuse they were busy... Here's a little known customer service tip for management you bring out diners mains at the same time or within a short period of time not once one person has finalised their meal.

I'm sorry this is unacceptable

Note: if you speak Italian they will pay you the upmost respect and ignore non Italian speaking diners

Remember: word of mouth can make or break your business.

Nice food and desserts. A good local joint with great wine.

Ooooo their pizzas are divine. We also had the buffalo mozzarella and prosciutto to start which was delicious. Desert we had Nutella pizza which was insane - I can still taste it! And the wine menu is reasonable. Will make it my italian local for sure

Delicious Italian food every time we visit without fail! Pizza base is thin and toppings are served in true Italian style. Pasta is just as good - the lasagne and the meatballs are our faves. The service is always impeccable too. Cannot fault it. My favourite Italian restaurant in Sydney by far!
Deb
Very professional staff. Considerate and efficient. Had problems with the menu this time so they made me something especially. Consistently good food. Everything was slightly underdone for my liking though.

DONT EAT HERE. How hard is italian food to cook? Everything from the rubbery calamari (borderline not even calamari) to the watery tomato sauces that came out cold. Tasteless awful food.
Chips were fried in 3 day old oil and tasted like crap.

All topped off with arrogant, face like slapped arses waitress and Maitre D.

Dont waste your time or your money. A dolmio sauce would be better.

We took the family and the kids out and found La Spiaggia to be fantastic. The decor was great, service excellent and the food sensational. The woodfired pizza special was a standout.
Grapsta
Very good. Professional efficient service. lovely bottle of Pinot Noir . Pizzas really good authentic wood fired Italian style with nice thin crust and good quality toppings. Nice tiramisu. I'm gutted i didn't know about this place when I lived in Coogee as its easily one of the few good options down there.
MonaroMimosa
Very, very nice! Had a fabulous dinner here: the warm olives and mushroom entrees were beautiful. So was the saltimbocca. So glad we happened across this restaurant.

Classy Classic Italian. Service was efficient and friendly. Pizzas were true to the Italian style.....thin base, simple, tasty toppings. Coffee just ok. Would definitely go back for the food.

The food and wine was fantastic. Couldn't fault it. Especially enjoyed the affogatto for dessert.

Good contemporary Italian food. Delicious thin and crispy pizzas make a good appetizer along with antipasto. For mains I ordered guinea fowl which was tasty but slightly overdone. My partner ordered the silver dory which was perfectly cooked. Nice selection of wines, good service and close to Coogee beach. Overall a good dining experience.
Adam
Very Nice. The pizza is very thin and if you like crispy and less toppings, than you will love their pizza. Wife had Spaghetti Marinara which is enjoyed immensely. Kids had the Kids Pizza and kids pasta which was adult size. Very impressive!! Over all the place was packed, the food came quite quickly. We were lucky to get a seat. When we left people were waiting on the street.

I thought the setting, decor and food were superb. The linguine special with prawns and pesto sauce was fantastic.

Gotta Love it!. Nick and Teresa have been in the business for many years. Food has always been authentic. Adding the new pizza oven has given them the edge over other pizza joints in the area. One price one size pizza. Gotta Love it !!

On the downward slope. I gotta say, this place USED to be good.

The restaurant has recently been revamped, but unfortunately, while the decor has improved, the food hasn't.

My wife had a grilled swordfish steak that was swimming in oil and served with vegetables that appeared to have been cooked at least twice.

I had a Gnocchi in tomato sauce which was soggy and generally tasteless.

I remember not that long ago this place used to be a good spot for a good feed, but I think it has gotten too big for it's own boots.

A shame really!
