Review The Little Kitchen - Coogee

Drew Kelly
Great food and service from the Little Kitchen! Waitresses were kind and accommodating to our toddler and infant as we hunkered down to devour a tasty burger and pancakes. Not rushed - even on a busy Sunday. Comments about not having a set kids menu are true… but save yourself some cash and just do family style shared plates!

Nice place to visit in the marvellous Coogee Beach. We ordered avocado on toast, chicken burger and bacon and egg bun. One thing I missed in the menu is kid options that’s why I don’t give them 5 stars. The coffee was also yummy. Honestly the price was a bit higher than expected because we usually spent $80 and today it was $100. In summary is a good option but be careful if you have kids because they don’t give you any option. We asked for a ham and cheese sandwich and they told me no way (outside menu) so low flexibility

We had a fabulous experience at the Little Kitchen for a Sunday brunch. The service was impeccable and the food was amazing. We enjoyed coffee, pancakes, baked beans, and a burger. The gals working were so sweet and accommodating toward our little girls. At other cafes I’ve been made to feel that our children were a bother, but not here. Would definitely recommend!

We came here for our coffee and brekkie after a swim. We sat outside, gas heater and blankets available which was nice and cosy. Ordered some coffees and crumpets (they looked so special!). Coffees were not very hot on order and very watery (for a cappuccino) but the beans were punchy. You can get honey and butter with crumpets or pay $2 extra for about a heaped tablespoon of vanilla whipped ricotta. The crumpets looked lovely, you get two slices. The top slice was airy, bouncy and holey for all the delicious conserves. The bottom was too tough (almost overcooked on pan). Would have liked them more crispy and toasted.

Fantastic food. The bacon and egg sandwich (with avocado) was delicious and I would certainly recommend this to satisfy that morning hunger! The coffee was fine and by all means not bad; however I found it slightly lacking depth.

Amazing smashed avocado toast, I opted for gluten free bread ($1.5 surcharge), delicious roasted tomatoes, fresh Rocket and a bit of pesto. Filling and just what I needed for a morning. Plenty of seats on a weekday morning, and people are sitting outside with their babies. Remote working nice morning breakfast spot. Toilet is down steep spiral stairs through the kitchen, but it is clean with soap and sanitizer. Just 1 unisex toilet, no suitable for elderly with walking and balance issues due to stairs or disabled. But for everyone else, this is a 5 stars 🌟 Friendly staff, good food with reasonable price. Did I mention they have Masala chai, turmeric chai, juices, coffee! and more. A local popular with morning coffee looks like.

Super lively cafe with quality, from-scratch food. Fantastic coffee, freshly ground chai, and friendly staff. Everything on the menu is delicious.

Nice place with cozy cafe vibes. Great avo toast and fish burger. A good visit for brunch if you are in coogee area

My favourite place to eat in Coogee. I've only been for breakfast before and decided to try out the evening menu. Absolutely amazing!! All three courses were so delicious! I'd eat there every day if I could :) definitely worth every penny, especially when there's lemon curd on the dessert menu!

Absolutely amazing! The menu was clearly developed by a sophisticated chef and the meals were actually prepared by the chef that did the menu. It showed! We actually ordered a second main as the first one was that good. A little hold in the wall that punches way above the weight of some of the best restaurants in Sydney. One of Coogee’s best kept secrets!

Absolutely top place in Coogee in my opinion. Fantastic food, great service and atmosphere and a friendly vibe earlier in the day too... Came in for coffee, came back for dinner, top quality and better value than along the front. Highly recommended!

This was one of the best brunches we have had in Sydney. The house made black pudding was delicious, the entire dish faultless, the slow roasted tomato on my partners dish incredibly intense in concentrated tomato flavour. Service was very attentive but not intrusive. Will definitely be back.

Can't believe I've driven past this restaurant for years, everyday, and never eaten there, until last night! The food was incredible, the lamb curry special was the best I've had in years! Service was also fantastic! Thank you!

Great food, awesome service. One of the best places to eat in the Eastern Suburbs.

Great little restaurant.... we had the $55 3 course dinner and couldn't fault any of it. Wonderful flavours, good service... small desert menu but that's all I can complain about 😊

Incredible food, fabulous service and gorgeous location. Server knew what vegan meant and knew exactly what to recommend. Loved this place!

Great food. Tasty, healthy and cooked with enthusiasm. Imaginative menus. The coffee is great too and I've loved the atmosphere and friendly staff every time.

From the coffee to the food and service can’t fault it, keep up the great work guys

Went for brekky couple weeks ago. Nice & friendly staff good variety of food in & outdoor seating. Coffee could be hotter & large is a regular at my local

Excellent! The coffee was hot and strong and the pork belly on chickpeas, chorizo, tomato and roasted capsicum was devine (great for my hangover 😉)

Fresh tasty food, great coffee and excellent friendly service.

Wow! It's amazing! It's so tasty! I used to eat there so many times when I was in Coogee. First of all, the service is amazing. The food even better. Cheers from Rome. I'd like to come back, sooner or later. See ya.

Best breakfast I've ever had! The food is so fresh and delicious and the staff are wonderful, by far the best cafe in Sydney!

Great vibe, good service and a refined but tempting menu. Cooked by pros. There's a reason this caff is always cranking. Gimme more

No better place near or far for breakfast lunch or dinner perfection. Lovely staff & great service.

I come here often and the food never disappoints. Very delicious breakfasts, quick and friendly service. Cannot fault, highly recommend :)

Cute little cafe with delicious breakfast food. Unfortunately I was seated next to the kitchen and every time a staff member washed the dishes, water would spray on me. It was a little warm in the restaurant which made the $5 mimosas a great highlight!!

The ricotta hot cakes were fluffy with good flavor, the bacon was crispy and went well with the pancakes (we ordered this as a side) although there just wasn’t enough sauce or moisture. We ended up ordering extra ice cream because the ice cream that came was already a little melted and there was only a small drizzle of caramel over the rest of the pancakes. The fruit was refreshing. The steak sandwich was really juicy. A little hard to eat. The steak was perfectly cooked and the caramelized onion was great. The chips were thick and crunchy. The service was good. I would say overall more a 3.8/5

Gorgeous rustic vibe with stunning food, and more importantly excellent coffee. I had the avocado toast with kale pesto and poached eggs, while hubs had the hot smoked salmon with pickled fennel and pickled cucumber with a yoghurt dressing and he thoroughly enjoyed it. The service was genuine and inviting

Have been here several times for breakfast and dinner. The dinner menu is absolutely gorgeous; whilst the food is of a very high quality, the serving sizes are also quite substantial.

Gorgeous rustic cafe, short walk from the beach and main street of Coogee. Popped in for breakfast and had a really nice avocado on toast and the granola. Both well presented and good serving sizes. I’ve had a lot of smashed avos in my time and this was a very good one - the toast was thick and crunchy, generous serving of avocado, and the pesto was flavoursome and delicious. Fresh food and well seasoned. Good value food prices for the serving sizes. Coffee was only average. Family friendly. Service was friendly and quick, but we sat near the kitchen and could hear the chef yelling at the other cook and berating the waitress for something, which wasn’t very nice.

Had a lovely morning here! Had the best hit smoked salmon with scrambled eggs and pickled cucumbers sooooo delicious will be back for that alone! Service was great, good atmosphere, coffee wasn't my favourite but did it's job. Definitely will be back!

Great cafe in Coogee<br/>Great bakery, coffee and food.<br/>Charming staff and very friendly to kids.<br/>The down stairs toielets add to the 'french like' magic<br/>

Stopped by today cause we know the coffee is good. My partner decided he was hungry so ordered the cheese and bacon burger- he had not stopped talking about how good it was! Best burger he has ever had apparently! That's saying a lot! This place hasn't ever disappointed!

I've been to this place many times and it is great. The breakfast brunch options are a little pricier than some cafes, but it is quality food and generous portions. The granola, yoghurt and fruit is delicious and the cooked salmon with cucumber and scrambled eggs is awesome. Today I got the baked eggs, which is honestly one of the best baked eggs I've eaten. It is flavoursome, has eggplant, chorizo, two eggs, Labne and some really fresh thick sourdough. I love it! Totally recommend this choice. I have been for dinner before and the price for 2-3 courses is very reasonable. I only have one picture today, it was so busy and too many people to take a photo of the inside to be unassuming. Nice rustic decor. The coffee is a nice smooth blend and I personally always go for the cold drip. The staff are fast and sometimes seem to rush you out as soon as you're finished, but it is so busy they probably want your table. The waitresses have become more personable since the last time I visited. Top chefs and barista.

Great food, friendly waitress but terrible barista. I went to this cafe once with my family and second time was just for takeaway coffee in this morning.<br/><br/>At first time, we really enjoyed the food and waited our coffee. We ordered with food but it didn't come more than 15mins passed after we finished our dish. We asked waitress, she was pretty nice at all but she couldn't answer and when we pay at cashier I asked barista guy because coffee was included even we couldn't get it. Finally he started to make it with bad attitude and said nothing. <br/><br/>And this time. I just wanted to have a coffee. But he was clearly in bad mood. He's doing something with poss machine and after a while he started to make coffee for another people. I asked him "how long does it take?" Maybe he answered something but I couldn't get it because it's too small voice. So I asked again, then he said something bad. I couldn't catch it again but it was pretty sure from his behavior. NEVER COME BACK AGAIN.

Yum! Beautiful little cafe along Arden St - a little away from the hustle and bustle of Coogee Bay Rd. <br/>The food was delicious! Was a little disappointed that there was only white sourdough (no rye or wholemeal) but it was surprising good! Super fresh and really thick. The avo side was $5 but very generous!<br/>Only downside was that the staff were a little pushy and we felt a bit rushed while eating. (even when it was quite quiet on arrival) <br/>Def worth a trip.

The faulty towers of sydney restaurants. From the moment we sat down it was complete chaos. The wait staff were completely overwhelmed and without the ability to smile or be even mildly pleasant. <br/><br/>the hardest thing was getting a drink. Your website says that you are BYO but when we asked for our bottles of wine to be opened we were pointed to the fine print that BYO is only for groups of 6 or less. As we had 8 people this wasn’t possible. The waitress asked someone in the kitchen and came back and said it wasn’t possible but ‘don’t blame me”. <br/><br/>While we thought this was silly and very uncustomer friendly we didn’t make an issue and instead asked for the matched wines.<br/><br/>This was our biggest mistake. I personally had to get up on at least 4 occasions to beg for the first glass of wine to be served. My guests could wait all night for food but on a Friday week we would at the very minimum want a glass of wine while we wait.<br/><br/>Amusing or not, when one of the times I asked the waitress for the matched wines, pointing to the menu, she asked, ‘which matched wines would I like’? Perhaps you should google the definition of matched wines….<br/><br/>Eventually half way through mains, the staff managed to find a glass and pour wine into it!! Hurray !! WHAT AN ACHIEVEMENT. <br/><br/>While all of this was amusing, the rudeness of the waitress was not. The entire meal we were made to feel like we were totally unreasonable and just difficult.<br/><br/>This is particularly disappointing considering that your food is very good. <br/><br/>However, we shall not return, as life is too short to me treated the way we were on Friday.

It is as the name suggests, very little! And when we visited there was a bit of a heat wave, it was a little sweat box! <br/>As most places in Coogee I think it's a little overpriced, but the food was good, really good.

Charming little cafe. You would be a brave person to choose anything other than the Avocado on Toast, and might I suggest a side of bacon? Indeed, I might. The basil oil turns this dish into perfection. <br/><br/>Have a seat outside at the footpath tables for a kinda-vertiginous slant on your alfresco dining experience. <br/><br/>Lovely, warm service by real people. Hip interior. <br/><br/>

Great food, shame about the service. I don't really expect to leave a cafe with a taste of what it might be like to parent a sullen teenager... each interaction leaving me wondering whether the eye-roll or the impatience was really necessary. I realise you're busy, but you are actually being paid (with money I'm paying for my meal, I might add) to do basics like getting me butter for my toast, or taking my order. I visit to enjoy the cafe you work for, not to tip toe around your attitude problem. It's the same every time, unfortunately ...<br/><br/>It's just the food that's kept me coming back, but I think it's time to explore other Coogee cafes. Hopefully I'll find elsewhere that does food as tasty, fresh, thoughtfully put together, and original as The Little Kitchen does.

Best restaurant is the East. By far the nicest restaurant around. Beautiful fresh food and the staff are awesome. Never been disappointed<br/><br/>Highly recommend it to everybody.
The Bros Who Brunch
Fantastic food, great coffee, service meh.. We stumbled upon this gem looking for a change from our usual eastern sub eats. <br/>The menu is basic but what they do they do very well, delicious and big portion sizes - great value. <br/>Coffee is single origin, velvety and smooth, some of the best in Sydney. We are brunch connesuirs and we're really impressed, 9/10 would do business again!<br/><br/>Only minor thing that let them down was the service which dampened the mood. One girl was extremely friendly, the other staff were helpful but looked miserable, like they'd have more fun at a funeral, smile guys! :)

Best restaurant in Sydney. I can't rave about this little restaurant enough. I eat there about once every one-two weeks. The food is consistently delicious (more than delicious - scrumptious!) and the service friendly and relaxed. The prices are also very reasonable. I've taken many of friends to the Little Kitchen and they all agree - it is outstanding. I feel fortunate to have it in my neighbourhood!

Just not enough...2 people in the kitchen and 4 entres and 4 main and 1 desert...and NO special????a bit lazy guys??!!im a chef and i know its a hard job but please maybe change the menu sometimes and do a better desert than pannacotta???<br/>Talking about food...boring,flat and not creative at all!there are better cafe and restaurant around coogee...even not to far...i dont want to say anything,it wouldnt be fair!!<br/>Not good FOR ME

Delightful Delicious Devine!. Visiting Sydney from Melbourne stopped in for lunch at this stunning little restaurant. <br/>Staff are so friendly and welcoming, and the food is amazing. Highly recommend the burger.<br/>This place is a rare gem :-) do yourself a favour and go visit.

Absolute Pick of Coogee (skip the crowds & the Pav & go here). The Little Kitchen is a great little cafe pretty much on Coogee beach (about 50m from the corner at Arden St going up the hill). <br/><br/>I rate the food and coffee as terrific, in particular the ricotta & pear for breakfast is brilliant (small serve is deceptively filling), banana pecan cupcake at brunch, the steak sandwich for lunch and a glass of solid McLaren Vale wine in the afternoon.<br/><br/>The service is spot on and a trip to the loo takes you on an unexpected journey below ground. The only minor drawback is that lunch doesn't have a few more moderately priced or snack like options (hint, hint, nudge, nudge).

Stupendous. Where do I start! As retirees from regional NSW, we often visit family in Sydney and have indulged in many eastern suburbs cafes, but Little Kitchen, Coogee, tops the bill. On our first visit, a friendly young guy greeted and seated us, served us the best coffee EVER - hot (a rarity), full-flavoured and served in a generous sized cup (also rare) - then presented our toddler grandson with a quirky iced strawberry milkshake served in a jar, generous enough for all to share. The plentiful serving of kedgeree was outstanding, better than my own, requiring sharing with my better half, whose poached eggs with bright large roma tomatos, buttermilk curd and herbs looked tempting. The wee one was hilarious with his antics over the fruit toast, served with ricotta and lemon curd, clenching his eyelids and shivering as his taste buds reacted to the astringent lemon, but not deterring him from devouring every last morsel. Little Kitchen is a standout from the rest.

Great little cafe! The pumpkin and chorizo is delicious, but it all looks good. Have been here for breakfast and lunch, can't wait to try dinner soon.

Dissapointed. I was really looking forward to this place...but left fairly underwhelmed. Coffee was good. Partners avocado ,poached egg and toast was one piece of toast and too small a serve for the price. My kedgeree was just ok...tasted of bland supermarket curry powder and needed more smoked fish.

Best breakfast in Coogee. I went to have some breakfast and was blown away by the quality of the food. I had the smoked trout and scrambled eggs and thought it was so rich and delicious and went beautifully with the cafe latte. Their coffee comes from double roasters and was smooth with some lovely dark cherry undertones. All I can say is go and enjoy some awesome breakfast there.

Lovely place and great service but standard of food is just too inconsistent for my liking. Over the span of 5 visits since this summer I've noticed standards been on a decline.. portion sizes has greatly reduced - their poached egg and avocado is now literally a bit of avocado spread on one small piece of sourdough topped with the eggs accompanied by a pitiful looking side of leafy greens, the French toast size has been halved, missing ingredients from certain menu choices that made it exciting just turned the dishes into bland and generic serving of food. I'm disappointed, thought this place was doing well but not well enough to get complacent.

Friendly service and delicious food. Love this new Coogee cafe, its just up the road from the main beach with parking outside, has a tasty breakfast menu and the coffee is strong and hot just how i like it.<br/>We couldn't decide what to order as it all looked good so we shared a few dishes with the friendly chef in the open kitchen giving us a heads up for the daily special. <br/>Im looking forward to going back to try their new dinner menu, i think it would be a great spot for a date night or a table with friends.

Excellent service and amazing food. Best French toast I've ever eaten!!! Thanks guys.
