Review Coogee Cafe - Coogee

Great coffee and ambience. Ordered the Hangover set (bacon, poached eggs with haloumi) - perfect taste and presentation

Food wasn't so fresh. They have a good menu and price is cheap.

Very sad to see this go :-\ Has become an iconic Sunday morning spot for our group. Service, food and coffee was excellent. Staff remembered names and favourite orders. Reasonably priced and great quality coffee and meals. Highly recommended

Pretty decent menu, small cozy Place and good food

Took them 45 minutes to serve the wrong order. The size was hugely disappointing as well regarding the $15 price tag for a granola porridge cup, would have expected at least a regular sized bowl, but was served a normal drinking glass. Furthermore, we were charged an additional 4 dollar because 'Sunday is a public holiday' and the owner rounded up our bill on his own behalf, not even asking if this is okay. First and last time for sure.

In a place like Sydney and Coogee in particular when you’re amongst so many good cafe/brunch options I’m not sure why you’d come here. Run down yet actually more expensive than comprehensive brunch places, messy, average service, generally unhappy people. The food/coffee isn’t bad, but I’d probably head elsewhere!

I usually dont write reviews but had a particular bad experience at this place. We arrived at this cafe and ordered breakfast (pancakes and granola and porridge). First we waited for about 40 mins for our food to arrive and when it did arrive, the granola/porridge serving was ridiculously small. The granola was filled in a glass with berry compote and there litterary were maybe 5 porridge seeds in the glass. What a rip off. Not what you expect when you pay $15... The pancakes were ok, but yet again not so filling so I was still peckish afterwards. When I went to pay, we got charged an extra 3,8$ for SUNDAY SERVICE. I asked the manager what this charge exactly entailed and he told me this was an surcharge because Sundays are public holidays. The manager definitely was not Australian because last time I checked Sundays are no public holidays or whatever. Real rip off. He also rounded up my bill while he still owed me 0,40$. Dont care about the stupid 0,40$ but that was just another bad vibe I experienced at this cafe. Will NEVER go back.

Coogee cafe is my go to place when I'm in town, which I was for a few weeks this spring. The food is delicious, the staff and owner are friendly and helpful. It's comfortable and pleasant and a great place to have a meal or a tea or both. :)

Stopped by this nice cafe for an afternoon break. It was fairly busy but the staff were lovely and pleasant. Quickly seated and table water brought to the table. We had an Iced Coffee and Latte. They used Toby’s Estate coffee and the taste was agreeable to the palate.

Popped in here for a coffee (or 4) and had to review it because the workers were so nice! So fast, got my coffees in a tray to go (chai, espressos and a cap), as well as an APA bar - apricot, gogi and almond bar which was gluten free. Whist I was there, a lady pulled up outside in her car, whom they obviously know and she got coffee to car service - that's awesome!! Looks like there's heaps of good food so i'll have to go back sometime!!

Good quality food, $40 for two people for breaky and coffee. Avo toast was great and added poached egg. Granola and yogurt was amazing. Also had sourdough toast. All round good and quick service, friendly staff.

Food used to be a lot better here. Hadn'tbeen for some while and then went twice in the past month. First time, food was beyond bad. Bacon tasted like nothing....my scrambled eggs really had just been thrown into a frying pan and mashed up at the end.more like a lumpy omelette. Decidedto give the benefit of the doubt and go back again. Not much of an improvement. Decent coffee and lovely staff. It's a pity the food is of such poor standards.

Good range of food, great service. Great coffee. The breakfast menu provided for a good range of choices and the staff were very helpful with food intolerances.

I never thought about putting Nutella in my coffee but here in Coogee they do it. They call it a Nutty Nutella Latte. I think it’s more like a mocha but regardless the name, I had to try it….! It looks absolutely beautiful, like a cocktail almost with that brim full of hazel nuts. I love mochas, that’s the coffee of choice for me (double kick) so I was really looking forward to give this one a try. It didn’t really work for me though, the Nutella didn’t really blend in with the coffee. The nuts look very pretty but I didn’t really like them in my coffee either but of course half of them ended up in my coffee…. Next time I will try their normal mocha.

The focus here is boutique, craft beers, and it is heaven for a beer lover.

Admission: when I started this job, I wasn't keen on beer. Normally I'd side step the issue by drinking something like the lovely Ginger Kegs ($10) , made by The Sunshine Coast Brewery using Buderim Ginger, and incidentally a great match for the Pork Koftas in Tomato Ragout ($12) . However, the silver-tongued (and nicely tattooed) owner Dan Hampton convinced me to try a 4 Pines Pale Ale ($7.50) . With a whiff of pine on the nose, this is one fabulous locally made beer. Dan's a great advocate for the Manly-based brewer, who " eats here all the time, he's a legend. " He has a sense of humour too, if his barcode's anything to go by. Dan and his wife Emma take over this café-by-day five nights of the week in a 'pop-up' type arrangement. Using lamps and a music selection that favours the acoustic guitar, they turn it into a laidback beachside drinking space where unique and boutique beers (and wines) sing against simple sharing boards. Not so special. Ate at Coogee Cafe After Dark last night, had the special Big Fish & chips with a long neck for 2... $30, it seemed like a reasonable deal. To say we were underwhelmed with the size of our 'big' fish and chips for 2 is an understatement. I would have probably still been hungry if I had it all to myself, but promoting it as a meal for 2 is a joke.
On the plus side, the long neck was regulation size, and food was tasty...

Great service & fantastic food!. I went here for breakfast the other day and absolutely loved it. Great coffee, friendly staff and amazing food, made by a chef who obviously loves the job!
You can really see how the new owners have change the cafe for the better.

Nice Coffee. Nice coffee. Just what was needed on New Years morning after the great fireworks last night. The eggs were perfectly cooked and the sourdough was light and fresh. Friendly prompt service in a bustling atmosphere. Eftpos minimum of $20 was not bad unless you just want coffee. Overall excellent.

“Delicious breakfast!”. Delicious breakfast at a decent price. Located a couple of minutes walk from the main beach in Coogee. Highly recommended.
Visited January 2015

I have never had such bad service in my life

Nice when the owner is in. The food/coffee is really nice. though it wouldn't hurt to make the poached eggs soft boiled rather than hard as a rock. also that waitress who is absolutely rude needs an attitude adjustment or a new job.

Appalling Service. Arrived here at 12.32 for a quick lunch with my mother on a Tuesday. The place was empty save for 3 other tables. After ordering at 12.33, by 1.05pm no food in sight. When I asked the waitress if the food was on its way, she rudely retorted 'yeah of course, what do you think?'. Avoid.

Had an amazing meal there even though it was late in the arvo the staff there were still really happy to serve us, (which is a change from other cafés who just want to get out of there ) polite & funny which made my experience nice there quite enjoyable ! I had the prawn and mango salad it was to die for! I would definitely recommend this place to my friends and family and come back again!

I'm sitting here right now and I have never been served by a waitress this rude in my life. I haven't even had my food but my experience here is pretty much bad. I walked in with friends and asked for a table and she threw the chair she was holding down really loudly and said sit anywhere. So we did, and then she walked over and threw the menus on our table and walked away. And when we asked her to clean the table, she grabbed the menu off my friend who was still looking at it, cleaned a small portion of the table and walked away. I've never seen a waitress this rude and unhappy before. I will never come back to this cafe again.

Went here for the first time last weekend with a friend after hearing so many good things. Food was amazing but I will never eat here again as the customer service was HORRIBLE !! I've never been made to feel so unwelcome and treated so rudely. When the girl delivered our drinks she just dumped them on the table and walked away, no smile or even telling us which drink was which, same with the sandwiches. And I mean she 'dumped' them on the table, not placed or served, just threw them down in front of us. And no it was not an exceptionally busy day. When we went to pay all they said was 'you know there isn't split bills right?' and just handed us the Eftpos machine. Definitely will not be heading back to this place unless they sort out their workers' attitudes.

Good service, can't say the same for the food. The girls who served us where nice enough, even though we had to go back 1 minute after paying the bill as they had over charged us by $18. The food was beyond mediocre. Between the three of us we ordered the Salmon eggs Benedict, the vegetarian with eggs (don;t worry I see the irony in that) and the french toast. All three meals were okay but very plain and I left thinking I wish I just stayed home and cooked for myself or ate wheetbix which would have been much more satisfying.

Amazing coffee, great service can't wait to go back.

Terrible service, terrible coffee and terrible Gronola for Bfast. Do yourself a favour and give this place a miss.

Good coffee, good service. The food was fine, really nothing special. I had the vegi brekki it was a bit boring and only came with one small piece of toast, not enough to have with the meal. He had the chicken buger it was "good". Probably won't be back for food, but maybe for coffee.

They need to change their deep fry oil. It stinks. It put me off eating anything that needs a grill or fry...most of the menu. Fortunately the fruit plate was lovely. None of the melons. Strawberries mangoes passionfruit and banana.

My favorite. Coffee is sensational, service outstanding and friendly. And the food is great. Top spot for breakfast or lunch. Menu is always changing and very reasonably priced. Try the chilli con carne when it's on the board. Mmmmmmmm!!!!!
