Review Little Jack Horner - Coogee

Matthew Yong-O'Gorman
Great restaurant with a decor and environment that perfectly matches the location it's on. Food is a little overpriced but you do pay a premium for location and view. That being said, the food is very good and the service is excellent. Also an excellent spot for breakfast or brunch when sitting outside on a warm, sunny day.

Came here on my own yesterday! Plenty of seats available and decided to take the ones outside. Service is QR code and only interacted with staff when they delivered food and drinks which is little sad they haven’t gone back to table service. Food was ok I ordered the Cajun chicken pizza, chicken wasn’t breast but thigh meat, which I wasn’t keen on. The decor of the place is cute and a lot of greenery hanging from ceiling and exposed wood. The toilets are shared between what looks like 4/5 retail shops and not designated just for the restaurant. The waiter with the tatts is super cute and just might be the reason to return sooner than later!! Ha

This place is a joke! They didn’t want to make me scrambled eggs because the chef likes the dish more with poached eggs… I am the customer and I don’t get to choose how I want my eggs! Doesn’t make any sense to me. The only reason they got 2 stars is how nice the person that served us was (Jasmine) otherwise I would give -5 stars if I could
Bianca Dutra
I ordered the brioche French toast. It was absolutely delicious. The location is also a plus. I'm definitely coming back!

Staff are super friendly and willing to help! Love the service. They have live music on thu-sunday. Ordered wagyu burger with chips and it was yum.

Great location and staff very friendly however, I could not say the same for the Kitchen staff. I ordered a big breakfast with poached eggs and white sourdough only to receive multigrain sourdough and scrambled egg. Ordered a cappuccino coffee extra hot and it was cold. This is a pricey restaurant and I expect it to be right. Sorry but our first visit will be our last.

Would recommend 10/10 Waiters team was really nice and pay attention to me. I wasn't to hungry so I ordered a child meal and they let me order it even if I'm not a child, not every reataurent let you do it. It was really big, and it was so good ! Bonus you can charge your phone on the bench, the decorations are beautiful and the view is awesome !

Bit pricey. $30 for salt and pepper squid. Lacks attention to detail. Small things like having only one menu on the bar. Order a jug of king island iced tea -$30 was really lacking the alcohol. Just tasted like a fancy coke. This was at their live music hour. The food menu wasn’t very large. No wines under $15. Price for a pint was $16.

I was at Little Jack Horner last night. I had left my jackets on a stool at the bar, when I went over to the stool, there were three men sitting next to the jackets. I told them I was just going to grab the jackets. As I was reaching down to get them, one of the men grabbed the back of my head, held my hair and pushed my head down while saying words to the effect of “yeah you’re just going to grab this”. I got out of his grip, got the jackets, while all three men were laughing as I walked away. <br/><br/>I then went out the front and told the male staff member who was on the door what had happened. I pointed the guy out, the staff member went over and said something to him, then went back outside. The guy who did that to me continued sitting at the bar drinking and laughing. I was appalled that he hadn’t been removed from your establishment after what he did to me. <br/><br/>I then went back over to the guy and said again how disgusting and wrong what he did was. The staff member then came up to me and told me off for “instigating” the situation he had already “dealt with”.<br/><br/>We then left the bar. I cannot believe that your staff condoned this behaviour, and allowed that man to stay in your establishment after what he did. Apparently the bouncer knew the guy who did it but didn’t kick him out because he’s a “regular”. That behaviour is appalling and should be stamped out by those in charge. I will never be returning to Little Jack Horner. <br/><br/>I intend to report this incident to NSW Police. The way Little Jack Horner handled this situation was disgusting, and I truly hope if it happens again, your staff will handle it in an appropriate manner.

It’s a Wednesday and I waited in line to be served from the take away section of the venue on the side on Coogee Bay Road, “Jacks Shack” and they were busy so they didn’t acknowledge me which was fine. Having worked in hospitality, I understand when its busy and you can’t welcome every customer and the customer just has to wait. However, two girls joined the line behind me to buy cans of soft drink. The staff simply ignored me and gestured AROUND ME to serve the girls waiting behind. It’s one thing to ignore a customer, it’s another to PURPOSEFULLY serve people behind said customer when they clearly have been waiting for longer. Your staff was too busy videoing the coffee maker with a videographer to serve clients. You really should work on customer service before marketing your venue. Never going back. Also, there were flies all over their buns and they placed their buns on the dirty stainless steel counter top to prepare their burgers. No gloves, no baking paper, no type of sanitary measures taken.

Decent place to brunch by the ocean!<br/><br/>The atmosphere is very chill & I love the tropical vibes of the cafe’s interior.<br/><br/>FOOD<br/>Ordered the vegetarian big brekkie & normal big brekkie. Very standard inclusions done well.<br/><br/>The service was quite slow. An item was left off my dish, but was resolved once staff were notified.

We found this funky cafe in Coogee when we visited Sydney a year ago, right across the road from the beach. Little Jack Horner has a great vibe 🌻 with all the plants, quirky furniture and friendly staff 🌼 it’s on our recommended cafes to visit if you’re in Sydney 💁🏽‍♀️<br/>With lots of seating inside and out! It’s also pooch 🐶 friendly 💖  variety on the menus selection. Price wise is ok - the only downfall is that everything is an add on so the $ adds up fast. Coffee was great & affogattos were delicious with their ice-cream ! <br/>🤤Kiki & The Greeky picks:-🤤<br/>🙆🏽‍♀️Kiki picked - Scrambled Eggs 🍳 on toast with a side of bacon, avo 🥑and halloumi & ofcourse an Affogatto 🍶<br/>🙆🏽‍♂️ The Greeky picked - Eggs Benedict with bacon 🥓 and a side of avo 🥑 halloumi & roasted potato bites & ofcourse a caramel latte<br/>🙆🏼‍♂️ Kambo picked - Eggs on toast, 🌞 sunny😎 side up with tomato and an iced coffee 🥤<br/>🙆🏽‍♂️ Dimos picked - The breaky burger 🍔 and a latte <br/><br/>See our full video review on our facebook page Kikiandthegreeky

we came here two years ago and it was so amazing we decided to take the 6k walk from Bondi as we loved the food and the service - this time the snotty and bored girl was more interested in her phone and the male waiter dancing with him and forgetting that maybe we pay for food so she can get paid - wow a funny formula

Went for a wedding reception and it probably wasn’t the best location for something like that but the staff did a sterling job amid the chaos. The food was terrible though. It’s really basic cafe food at high prices. The fish, calamari, chicken and beef sliders were all so chewy. The chewiest. Really not sure how they managed it.

Been here for coffee and breaky, nice interior reminds me somewhere in Bali because it has same vibe. Located exactly in front of Coogee beach. Ice coffee was good, for breaky i just had coconut panna cotta with tropical fruits. It’s taste so-so because I couldnt taste the coconut either they using coconut water or coconut milk. But the taste not represent coconut. Price wise.

Awful. My husband and I ordered the seafood platter for two which should include a drink each and a dessert to share. Small portion aside, the baby octopus was burnt. After the main, we waited for more than 40 minutes for our banana creme brulee. After asking the waitress more than twice, we decided we shouldnt wait any longer. When we paid, we told the waitress/cashier person at the bar/counter that we never had our dessert. She simply said Sorry I just got here. But the price is for the platter(with or without the dessert).<br/>If you cannot deliver the food quickly, at least let your customers know. Terrible service. No apologies, nothing. Would not recommend to anyone.

Tasty, but extremely small portions and definitely on the pricier side. Despite that, the coffee was great, and the staff super friendly and attentive

Very disappointed that we wasted our money at this restaurant. The food portions were smaller than what a child would eat and the prices were ridiculous. The pasta that we ordered was flavourless. For the price we paid we expected to walk out fuller than full, however we were still very hungry. Staff were friendly but we will not be back at this restaurant.

Wish we had read the reviews before we went there. Portions were so small and tasteless. Extremely over priced meals. On a positive note they had lovely staff. Highly recomend to eat elsewhere.

Great food, friendly staff and on a Sunday good with live music.  Being Irish they have an enjoyable Irish themed night every Thursday as well.

After catching sunrise at Coogee beach and a quick swim, which are things you should definitely do at 6:30 in the morning, we headed to the main shop area for brunch. Little Jack Horner was sort just there on the corner right across from the beach, and the menu stood out with their big vegetarian breakfast. It was the big fluffy dog sitting at the entrance that had us hooked - I'll be honest here :P

After completing the coastal walk, we thought we’d have a late brunch but were advised breakfast menu had finished and we wouldn’t be able to order from the lunch menu for another 30mins which we agreed was okay as we’d have a coffee in the mean time. We were sat at a communal table when there was a free table available so we asked if we could move which was permitted. Had to wait over 10mins to order drinks even though we asked 3 times to order our coffees. Weren’t provided with the lunch menu just to mull over our choices. Service was quite rushed and lacking. Decided to leave after our coffee. On the plus side, coffee was good.

Great atmosphere with ocean views, really nice iced coffee... I ordered wedges, and got 10 wedges for $11 which half filled the bowl, when I complained they told me it was 250g and that was a normal serve. They were inflexible and a bit arrogant. I would probably wouldn’t go back for food. Disappointed
Lau Mio
Outstandingly disappointing on every level. <br/>Was starving yet didn’t touch my breakfast as it was inedible. Just bad flavours as well as not fresh ingredients. Chaos reigned supreme!<br/>1 point for location and decor.
Skipper
Popped in on a Saturday afternoon for lunch. Food was very good and the service was polite and prompt. <br/><br/>Prices weren’t too bad given the position next to the beach ($40 for two lunches and two drinks) and the location and decor make it a perfect beachside eatery.
Eatwithmyfoodsafari
Skipped the little black book and had coffee instead of cocktails at this breezy seaside bar/cafe. Good Grinders coffee, and lemonade is served in a moustached jar.
Sam Kc
Perfect spot for a meal or coffee with a beachfront view. Though, that view can come at a price. With inflated prices and busy crowds trying to get around Coogee. <br/>My favorite time here was watching the sunrise with a hot chocolate and some scrambled eggs. Apart from that I don’t have any other fond memories of this cafe. If your a tall person like me (over 6 feet) than seating inside is a problem with the awkward table heights compared to the seats itself. It leaves you having to lean down to the table because they are to low = soar back. <br/>

Bit of a tourist trap. High prices for not so amazing food. Food was good just not great. We shared a big breakfast and didn’t finish it as the ingredients weren’t high quality and it was too oily. Service from staff was also average, the waitress could have smiled. Also wish they would make the beach strip traffic free as it ruins the vibe.

Food was lovely.<br/>I'm actually quite happy with what I had.<br/>Avocado, bacon, roasted cherry tomatoes on toast with a poached egg on top.. what a perfect combination 👌🏻<br/>My friend had the corn fritters and we ordered a bircher muesli to share.<br/>Their bircher is just basically soaked oats. It didn't really have any sweetness, it does come with some berries compote and some fruits on top. Thought it could be good with some drizzled honey on top.
Hayley
Expensive pricing but I guess you're paying for the view. Lunch apparently doesn't start until 12:30 on a Saturday (interesting). The sweet potato chips for $10 contained about 8 chips. Not even kidding. The Thai chicken salad contained the same chicken as the chicken kaarage. Interesting flavours but don't think I would go here again.

The food: The calamari are the best I've encountered in coogee... <br/><br/>The service: The wait staff are the worst I've encountered in coogee <br/><br/>Make of the above what you will but that's all I can think of to describe the place despite having been there several times.
Carla
Little Jack Horner is a very nice looking restaurant with a lovely view, however it took about 15-20 minutes to be served once we sat down and another 40 minutes for my food to come. The service is pretty bad and some of the waiters/waitresses are not very friendly.
Craigellachie
Pumpkin pappardelle and Niçoise salad were very average, personally wouldn't order again. Nice and chill atmosphere & decor, service staff helpful but a bit cold.

Best View in coogee , great coffee , drinks and food . Staff are friendly and they have a nice wine selection . On weekends there is live music too ! <br/>

The food is great, really lovely staff great, nice view on coogee beach, nice vibe, I love this place !!<br/>Very nice live bands as well on weekends<br/><br/>

With a view of the beach from every seat, an extensive list of wines to choose from, and amazing eats, Little Jack Horner's is a true Coogee gem. The staff is always friendly, the live music Friday to Sunday is always a treat, and the food/ coffee is absolutely delicious brekky lunch and dinner (especially when enjoyed on the scenic patio on a hot day). Overall, cute beachside restaurant with a great atmosphere and vibe.

This place is great! Right across from the beach, it truly is a beach bar. There food is excellent, comes out as it's ready so you aren't overwhelmed with food. Absolutely delicious! Their drink knowledge is superb as well, whether it's wine, a cocktail or a beer, they will make sure that they find something right for you. Overall, the atmosphere was professional but fun, nobody was stressed out and the staff knew what they were doing. It made going there such a relaxing and fun experience!

A very nice place to have lunch on a sunny day next to the beach. Very good attention, food and many options of drinks and cocktails. I think it's a little expensive but I understand cause it's situated in the most currency place of Coogee.
EpiCurious
Cute little retro bach style cafe with stunning views and prompt friendly service. Unfortunately the food was a little bit of a let down - the Avocado bruschetta would have been more accurately described as slightly toasted walnut bread, and the bacon could have been a lot more crispy. The ideas were good - it just didn't seem to come together properly. Great if you have a small dog in tow - they were well looked after by the staff :)

Located in a Prime corner Spot on Coogee Bay road looking out onto the water is Little Jack Horner. A buzzing café/bar/restaurant, offering a nice menu for both breakfast, lunch and dinner with a good selection of drinks. This is a perfect spot during Summer as they keep all their windows open to allow you to enjoy the weather and allow for a cool breeze to come through.<br/><br/>It’s interior is very beach style keeping to the theme of the area and offers a relaxed environment with sunbed style seating near the windows and big soft cushions for the chairs. The breakfast is quite delicious offering both healthy and big breakfast options to cater for anyone’s requirements. The service is great yet the food is quite pricey and the portions are not the biggest, so this isn't a cheap meal by any means.<br/><br/>What works well for these guys is they keep it fresh, check their website regularly to see what upcoming live bands or stand up comics they may have at the venue. Paired with a few house made cocktail specials and you've got a great date night spot.

This is the worst, most overpriced cafe I have ever been to. The pancakes were dry, the topping was cold and lumpy, the avocado smash was literally Philadelphia cream cheese on white toast with half an avocado for $19. Such a disappointment. The coffee was inconsistent, milky, cold and weak. The pillows were dirty and the staff/service were below average.
Coffeebrunchanddinner
Great location near Coogee Beach Little Jack Horner is your perfect mix of bar and restaurant. There is a page of cocktails which all look delicious - we went for the blueberry buzz and the passionfruit martini. What really surprised me was the range of food on offer. There are mains and pizzas however we went for the shares. The potato bravas with spicy tomato sauce and aioli were delicious and so were the lettuce cups with tiger prawns, chili, garlic and ginger. We also had the prawn dumplings and whilst they were nice it was certainly not worth $18 for three. The staff were extremely friendly and this is a great place for groups with larger tables but also for a date with separate smaller tables that are well spaced out.
Restaurant Review
Really nice. Tasty menu and good coffee, all without being spectacular. Lovely setting overlooking Coogee beach and nice atmosphere with friendly, helpful staff. A little pricey, but I guess you're paying for the view. Well worth a visit.
Darn Small
This place has a great opportunity...it wants to be a small bar in Coogee where we don't really have any small bars. Coogee is not really known for it's nightlife, the bars are a joke at best...we did have a place After Dark at the Coogee Cafe for a while that was the perfect encouraging kind of epic, until that stopped and there has been nothing since. So you get the picture, Coogee has been crying out for an epic small bar scene.<br/>Enter: Little Jack Horner<br/>I haven't been here for over a year. The 1st time I came here I ordered a bucket of prawns to be surprised at how small a bucket can actually be and still called a bucket (think the opposite of a thai whisky bucket...kind of like an upside down thimble). I've walked past many times since wishing they had got their shit together. A year on their shit is probably actually worse. <br/>We got in there this evening when the place was next to empty, the kitchen staff seemed cool...but the two floor staff seemed kind of non-existent, they were more interested in giving each other massages than paying attention to anyone in the bar. So it started pretty poorly and the bar never really got that busy, but the staff were noticeably slow; I can't imagine what it's like on a busy evening? We left before finishing my second Scotch, I was sharing it with my gf while we waiting for her never to appear 2nd beer. I'm serious, this place was so quiet and so slow and it took them legit forever to pour a beer? a schooner? it wasn't until I went and paid for the bill that this mystical 2nd beer finally appeared on the bill...lol right...yeah of course that makes sense, charge them but don't actually deliver; I kind of like that business model in a way...in the same kind of way I think The Donald would make an interesting choice for the US President.<br/>So they removed the non-existent beer off our bill, we paid and left and I was reassured that I've been fortunate in not revisiting this place for a year and I won't ever go back again unless the management change and they get someone in that knows their shit. But since this is Coogee and there is no small bar scene/competition you can have a place like this that will do really well doing basically all. <br/>My recommendation, save your time and money, forget about the idea of a beach bar and just head up to The Spot to Bat Country where they know their shit and nail it time after time. <br/><br/>p.s. Bat Country: Ever thought about moving closer to the beach, we need your help desperately <br/>

Cozy cafe facing the beach, is such a relaxing scene for a sunday lunch. Ordered salmon haloumi salad and seafood tagliatelle, taste great, staffs are friendly. But their lunch and dinner menu is abit boring, nothing much to choose from...
Stephanie
Breakfast menu is good, lunch menu a bit boring and overpriced. Make it early for breakfast, the menu is much better. Almond milk available.
Laura Gresham
Not quite sure why this place was busy... Great ambience but terrible coffee (very watery), and my serve of bacon was 80% fat. Don't mind paying for location/view if the food is worth it. This was not.
Baron Letchford
Very poor value for money, if you're going to charge $12.50 for a bacon roll then you would hope that it's a pretty cool roll. It seems that this restaurant relies on the fact that its location is sensational, as the staff are absolutely useless. Cold coffee and bacon served in a sweet roll just doesn't cut it.
Sally Parker
First and foremost, the interior decor is gorgeous. It reminds me a little bit of Potato Head in Bali and has a very cool, beachside and sophisticated feel. I came here for breakfast with two of my friends, and I opted for the Shakshuka eggs. <br/>It was so so. Not the best shakshuka, not the worst. One of the eggs was slightly overcooked and didnt ooze when I cut into it, and the eggs weren't baked into the pan, but were sort of just sitting on top of the tomato based sauce. Eh. <br/>All in all, it's a good place to go if you're feeling like being surrounded by a trendy atmosphere with trendy people, however, there is certainly room for improvement.
Angie
BSat outside and Service was very slow. Took ages to get menus and order. The eggs Benedict was covered in sauce and was too heavy. Overall could have been better.
Erika-Anne
Love here anbience. The cafe is light and airy! I came here just for coffee after having lunch. We ordered cuppcchino and iced latte, those were just $3.50 and resonable!!<br/>But to be honest, the coffee is average.<br/>Good to chill. I do love the friendly staff.<br/>I'd like to try lunch next time.
Matias Campino
Breakfast highlight: Avocado Stack, which comes with excellent bacon and decent pesto. Maybe a bit expensive at $20 with a poached egg, but very satisfying. <br/><br/>Also had the roast pork on a Wednesday night. Quite nice. Get in early for the crisp crackling, some of the later ones looked a bit chewy. <br/><br/>This place has a unique, summery beach-garden feel, which completely belies the fact that it used to be a pharmacy. Atmosphere would be best described as "chilling out in a small-fishing-village". Nice views, cushioned almost-bay-window style seating, and cool decor. <br/><br/>Service is excellent, except when it's busy. Then you need to be patient, or annoyed. Your choice. <br/><br/>Comedy nights are hit and miss. There is a large brick column in the middle of the room which obscures the stage. Talent is good, but some parts of the crowd were not expecting comedy, and thus, were loud and obnoxious.
Andy Quan
A not particularly chilled glass of white wine for $12.50 and two fish tacos for $23 with a cloying sweet sauce. It's obvious this is a place that is trading off its location, right across from the beach. It was busy and noisy, the service was fine although had kind of an air that they were enduring our large, indecisive table. Overall: not impressed.
Megan Cosgrove
Gave this place a second chance early on a Saturday night, as I'm not one to judge a place on my first unpleasant encounter putting it down to a new team etc. Food and drinks were good and we live around the corner. SO sorry I did!!!! <br/><br/>Staff were even ruder the second time, which was surprising as the first time had not been good in this respect. On both occasions there seemed to be plenty of staff for the amount of people in the bar, but staff were not friendly or helpful and seem to actively avoid contact with customers. I was so disappointed that the service seems to be getting worse, more unorganised and you feel unwelcome if you try to engage with them, no matter how friendly you are to them. <br/><br/>The place itself, the music and the drinks (when you finally get them) are nice which is why the staff really take away from this place. We decided to leave after 3 drinks as the cocktails took over 25 minutes to come and one of our orders was then lost, to which we received the most rude interaction of all and zero pretense to care despite us being understanding of the scenario. Would not recommend to go here as the staff do not seem able to deal with a moderately busy crowd. The staff and service is so bad that it outweighs all the positives this place has to  offer.<br/>I've never given a negative review before but service is a ZERO- both times!
Alex Gd
I ordered steak burger with chips, the steak was served in so tiny piece of meat with toasted bread and chips were so salty, I like salt on my food by they seems liked the chips were covered by salt all around.<br/><br/>For Payment I provided my AMAX card and like most of the places they said there is a 3% surcharge and then I provided my master card but then they said there is 1.5% surcharge again which was so weird for restaurants, even if you wanna get a coffee you pay by your visa or master card and there is no surcharge so you don't have to carry so much money with you. The cashier was to rude and told me why you dont pay by cash if you have cash with you and I really shocked as I always pay by my visa or master card. I assume they are running away of paying TAX by encouraging people paying their bill by cash only.<br/><br/>Im totally unsatisfied of their service
Spatch06
Very poor front of house!. As a chef of eight years i can honestly say that i have never witnessed service this poor. When I entered the restaurant the manager looked at me, turned and walked away. After we showed ourselves to a table the three floor staff did their best to ignore us for the best part of 15 minutes until we asked for a menu. After missing a main meal from our order (ON A TABLE OF TWO!!) we where then handed the bill which had extra items on it! When I highlighted this to one of the waitstaff he merely shouted to a bar member to print a new bill without even an apology. I was then left to finish the transaction with yet another poorly mannered member of the team. The manager meanwhile continued to ignore me and the situation!<br/><br/>Besides this, the food was actually good. Although the mussels hadn't been cleaned. <br/>I might also add that i honestly have never written a review of a restaurant before in my life.

Great Food. Just had the best pizza in a very long time. Service was great, with the staff being so friendly and welcoming. Also our waitress suggested some awesome cocktails. I had the prawn pizza which was so tasty and satisfying, and my friend had the lamb rack which was to die for. Noticed that the table next us had a whole leg of lamb which smelt and looked amazing!! which is what I will be having next time I come back.
Colleen
We stopped in for casual early dinner. The service was good. The pumpkin and chicken salad with haloumi was fantastic.
Vampiressofdarkness
Average food, bad service. Waitress was terrible, when told our chips had no chilli, rosemary or sea salt as stated on the menu, she bought us a bowl of salt and said 'there! that is what they put on your chips' as if that would prove what our chips did not have. Food was very average and overpriced.
