Review Oceans Dining & Drinks - Coogee

Penny Christie
Oceans Dining and Drinks is the perfect spot to meet up with family and friends for drinks and nibbles. They have some really nice simple cocktails. Not many on the menu but the choices are still good. They also offer food like chicken wings, calamari, hot chips/fries and your usual bar food. The views over the road to the beach are lovely. #letsguide #datenight #oceanviews

We went here two nights in a row it was that fantastic. This is the scotch fillet with chips and salad that tasted absolutely amazing. The kids has $10 fish and chips and the chorizo and prawn pizza was delicious!! Highly recommended. Especially if you are staying in the amazing Crown Plaza as well.

Pizza was better than I expected, the meat lovers tasted so so good! And I enjoyed the laid back atmosphere, but only one menu per table, with 7 people trying to order was annoying.

Very good experience. We were surprised because we saw some negative reviews. We first ordered a calamari as a tester. It was great. So we ordered prawns, lamb skewers and a salad. Everything was very fantastic.

I’ve never written a bad review but would not recommend this place. The wait staff were poor. We waited over an hour for food and the staff didn’t seem to care less. The pizza was nice but I got tacos which were awful. The chicken was like super market cold cuts that weren’t heated Properly. The prawns were frozen and heated up and the chips were so hard they weren’t edible. I couldn’t eat this meal and would not recommend eating here.

Terrible experience for lunch today. It was not a busy day with maybe three or four other tables to serve. The kitchen struggled to turn out food in a timely fashion. We had placed two separate orders for 2-3 meals each. In both cases, it tools over forty minutes for both orders to be made. In the case of the second order, my sister had to check and prompt the chef to start the order. I would only come back for the booze as the food was a major let down.

View is gorgeous, atmosphere is cozy, comfortable and very nice. Thought $28.00 for 2 glasses of Sharaz was way too much AND it was Happy Hour. We asked about HH and were told we got a large wine for the price of a regular. Also were told In Season Happy Hour is more expensive than off Season. Disappointing.

The salmon dish we ordered included a very small salmon fillet. For $33 it was an unacceptable amount. We informed the waiter and no response was received once he spoke to the manager. We also ordered (and paid for) a chicken schnitzel which was on special that night. After ordering and paying for the food (and waiting for at least 20mins), a waitress came to the table and advised that they had run out and offered an alternative of an equivalent steak (at the same price). We argued that given the inconvenience that it would be expected that any choice of meal should be offered at no further charge. The staff insisted that we would have to pay the difference. At this stage the mood of night was completely ruined with a debate about something miniscule. In general the food was quite average given the price and the service was slow and poor.

Great place to have a cold drink on hot day with an ocean view. Food is actually delicious and everything I saw on other tables also was great. Definitely our place for the upcoming summer beach season.
Another bonus- no that noisy and crowded as other pabs in the area.

If I had known about Après by the Sea early in June I would have booked my birthday here. If I lived east side I would be down at Oceans Dining & Drinks for Sunday Fundays and as for the food – it is marvellous and you want it on your plate. The venue is great and the design for Après by the Sea is warmly comforting and reminded me of the snow. The mulled wine and cocktails definitely aided in this. Check out my first full review in the new design Spooning Australia website.

Ocean’s Dining’s new pop-up, “Apres by the Sea” is a wonderful novelty for the Winter season. In the luxury complex of Coogee’s Crowne Plaza, it’s recent interior revamp incorporates textures of plus faux fur, gold and warm woods centreing around the feature fireplace.

A breathtaking seafood selection of the Chef’s Hot & Cold dishes includes Lobster, King Prawns, Oysters, Blue Swimmer Crab, Salmon Gravelax, Salt & Pepper Calamari with fresh lime, spicy tempura, batter mussels, grilled salon and grilled Balmain Bugs. It’s the centerpiece of the menu and highlight in the Shareplate food items on offer presented on two tiers. It’s quite an extravagant spread immaculately presented.

Tapas/Canapes and Sides designed in a way to become a meal of their own or lavish accompaniments.

The BBQ Duck Bao buns with asian slaw are mouthwatering pillows of satisfaction. A beautiful bitter sweet sensation created in their assembly of figs, charred asparagus, prosecution, wild rocket and goats cheese. The brussel sprouts with bacon and almonds were also an interesting assembly of contrasting flavors.

The decor of the space and the design of the menu doesn’t pure rely on the prime location which helps make the proposition here stand out. The venue easily moulds itself to suit your casual drinks, work meetups and is a step up from your normal local.

What a gorgeous venue tucked away inside the Crown Plaza Coogee! Oceans is simply gorgeous, having recently been refurbished it features cool coastal decor with a swanky indoor area and outdoor terrace.

We were treated to a long table dining experience for its relaunch and the food and cocktails were simply divine, all while enjoying the sea air out on the terrace. I have a weakness for passion fruit cocktails and this was one of the best I've tried.

The table was simply laden with food, starting with a pumpkin and spinach leaf salad, and a luxurious fig and rocket salad.

Out came massive seafood platters brimming with fresh produce from prawns to oysters to lobsters and salmon.

And it didn't stop there! Lamb topped pomegranate, gorgeous roast chicken and more. It just kept coming!

The food was as beautifully cooked as it was presented too! For dessert we finished off with a decadent chocolate tart and an arty Eton mess.

A wonderful night, with exquisite food, great service and a truly beautiful beachside dining atmosphere. Nice to see Coogee keeping it classy.

This bar is all about the location along Coogee beach. You can enter from the street or via the Crowne Plaza Hotel.

There is indoor and outdoor seating with a relaxed and stylish decor that makes it a good spot for drinks with friends. There is an extensive menu with shares, steak, seafood and pizza. However I would not recommend oceans for dining. The ribs cost $36 and were not of good quality and were a relatively small serving whilst the Singapore chili crab with rice was $30 and was underwhelming. The rest of the group ordered steak which was overdone.

Overall it's a good spot for a drink but the food especially considering the price is disappointing

Absolutely appalling. Wanted to come here for dinner for my 18th birthday - a sit down dinner with 8 teenager and 4-5 parents and I wasn't able to because they don't book "18th parties", despite the fact it's not a party. Never coming here again.

Oceans Dining and Drinks is a beautiful beachside dining venue located at the Crowne Plaza Hotel right by Coogee Beach. The venue inside looks great with hanging plants and bright airy decor whilst the outdoor terrace has views right on to the beach. The food menu is Modern Australia with a slight Asian influence whilst the drinks menu boasts a great selection of beers, cocktails and wines.

Beachside deck dining. Really nice place to sit, sip, view and chew. The calamari are small light crisp with spice and are delicious. Seafood platters are old school with everything you'd expect, prawns, oyster, bugs and lobsters . A huge platter of seafood that looks very dramatic, i would have given more points for freshly shucked oysters and house cooked prawns. The spatchcock is very nice so is the lamb. Good selection of salads. It's good, probably not as exciting as food can be.

With a name like 'Oceans' you can expect something a little special from the sea 🦀🍴 Served with 2 exquisite cocktails, this smorgasbord for two satisfied my every seafood craving.🍸 Gorgeous seaside outlook and beautifully chic interior, @oceanscoogee is indeed a standout establishment... I can't wait to book another table!👌🏻 @mybondisummer #mybondisummer

I'll start with a positive - delicious espresso martini. The espresso was smooth and balanced nicely with the alcohol. My boyfriend thought he'd give a cocktail a go and ordered a dark and stormy, and he really liked it too. Then the meals came out. What a disappointment. What led us to Oceans was a good review from a friend and also their $10 pizzas on Thursdays. We ordered a middle eastern lamb pizza with yoghurt and also a supreme pizza. I'm fairly certain the pizzas had been frozen as the base had that kind of hard bottom but weird soft inside, and the lamb had that certain defrosted taste to it. It was also really gristley which we didn't appreciate. The supreme pizza didn't really have any taste to it. Just a jumble of different foul highly processed meats. None of the ingredients of these pizzas had any love to them. We ate about 4 slices of our pizzas in total and left feeling robbed of our $20. I'd rather buy a Coles pizza. However, with happy hour having $10 cocktails, I'd definitely recommend capitalising on the view and going to Oceans. Just don't order a pizza.

Really stepped up their game! Yummy food great cocktails and the staff are all friendly and efficient. Went here on Friday night and had some awesome wine from Orange NSW - Love that they are supporting a great boutique wine region - lots of respect. We split a coupe of Pizza's and my husband had the ribs, the dj played great music and it was a really awesome way to spend our night and catch up with friends. Keep it up Oceans and you will see me a lot more.

Poor service for a Sunday arvo. 45 min wait for food, when the place wasn't even half full. Pizza - quite likely to be a frozen pizza, tasteless, burnt. Mezzo platter, don't bother, undercooked what we think was falafel, seems thrown together. Overpriced, underwhelming. Friendly staff, go for drinks, skip the food.
What a view! I was staying here over the weekend and loved the chilled vibe of this place. The lovely staff were all amazing and I was here 2 times and they remembered drinks we liked and were super friendly. I had the Meat BBQ pizza and it was divine. The espresso martinis are perfect and they have a terrific wine list. But the view...is the real winner. They even had blankets for the cold and great outdoor heaters. Can't wait to come back in a few weeks!

#ThisIsWhatWeDo Chefs Cold Seafood Selection $90 Oysters and lobsters and prawns! OH MY! This massive tray was filled to the brim with the freshest seafood including lobster, king prawns, oysters, balmain bugs, prawn ceviche, blue swimmer crab & house made salmon gravelax. Chefs Hot Seafood Selection $45 Another platter, this one smaller with hot options like slow cooked octopus with citrus & capers, fried white bait, garlic king prawns, baked scallops with citrus chilli crumble and steamed mussels in saffron, chilli & chorizo broth. Obviously we were pretty spoilt, however there's a huge range of food options on the menu from light nibblies to hefty burgers. To finish off was a light cheese platter with a lovely selection of 3 cheeses and dried and fresh fruits. We had a great time at Oceans Dining & Drinks and would like to thank Billy Law for the opportunity to meet a really great bunch of people and eat some really tasty food.

While we were on the balcony enjoying drinks the waitress brought around this pretty platter of veg canapés. The fig, mushroom, asparagus and cheese was my favourite.
Does My Bomb Look Big In This
While Merivale loudly popped the proverbial Champagne on its new rooftop venue, a rival contender quietly did the same at the southern end of Coogee Beach. The ‘other' Coogee rooftop took over the tired space in the Crowne Plaza Hotel , and offered Sydneysiders magnificent views and seafood fare – with elbowroom to boot. On a sunny day the terrace calls for an Oyster Tasting Plate ($12) and McLaren Vale Sparkling ($7.50/$34) . Inside would have you thinking it’s summer all year round with its green and gold colour palette screaming pina coladas. Of course, the cocktail menu is more sophisticated than that: the Coconut Margarita ($17) does the trick, and the Summer Dream ($17) with vodka, lychee liqueur, basil and raspberry goes down oh-so-easy. Carb-up with the zesty Balsamic Mushroom Pizza ($18) or turn it down with the Tuna and Prawn Salad ($35) , which is generous and as fresh as the breeze. The Crispy Pork Belly Bites ($21) sound better than they taste, lacking in flavour and sauce, sadly. As a whole, the place is more hit than miss - worth taking a walk south side. It’s also worth thumbing through the nearby beach library - a local Council initiative to shout about. There are good things happening in Coogee if you have the time to look beyond the pines... Beautiful venue & view! We .... Beautiful venue & view!
We had to pick them up on charging us twice for the cold seafood platter ($90)..& they weren't even going to give us a receipt...will say the chef helped here as he came out to check.
Frozen tasteless lobster & bugs!
Chips great, oysters lovely...hot platter pretty good.
Glass of Chardonnay $14!?
No waiter service whatsoever (order at the bar, once served you're on your own!)...really not sure what their target market is!?

Good Pizza and great view. Been here numerous times and enjoyed various pizzas and the fish&chips. The one time I didn't have a good food experience management were very accommodating and swiftly fixed up the problem. It's pretty casual and the menu isn't extensive but they often have a special on. Early evening / happy hour drink prices also make this place a winner. It's got a great view and is not as hectic as the Coogee Bay Hotel.

Good service, nice to see regular bar staff, as coogee suffers from massive staff turnover in a lot of places. Pizzas good value, especially the $12 pizza specials. Appears to be a weekly burlesque classed on Saturday afternoons, sadly, no Dita von Teese look-a-likes, though! Still it beats the Coogee bay hotel which is usually full of Western suburbs bogans and back packers!
