Review Flavour Of North India - Coogee

Great deal with the price !! Big portion and not over oily or salty 🍛 Casual daily basic style ~ Not fancy but good enough for a Indian taste

The best Indian in the Eastern Suburbs. The curries are flavoursome and the servings generous. The Naan Bread and Chicken Tikka is always great as well. Would highly recommend, I come back regularly

Exactly what you expect. Delicious, but standard curries at a good price. Have been frequenting this place for the best part of 20 years and it’s not changed. Good for takeaway.

The food was very bland and flavorless. North Indian cuisine is delicious and full of flavor. It’s a shame about this restaurant. On a positive note, thé lassi was delicious, the portion size was generous and reasonably priced.

I bought two medium size of biryani’s but I was smelling so badly … we just threw in a bin … wastage of $20 …. Was waiting for Friday just to have some good food but disappointed…. Thanks

I am a regular here from 4 years and they do the best customer service and the best vegetarian curry options love their food and how they treat like their friendsđź‘Ťđź‘Ť

Ordered through Deliveroo. Palak paneer was sloppy and flavourless. Lamb curry equally poor. Samosa was ok.

I had the vegetarian curry, and it tasted amazing. Also the serving size was generous, and the price was reasonable.

Had a quick dinner here

The food is standard Indian! I liked the softness of the naan & the flavour of the curry. The wrap was a decent portion size for the price.

The service was quick!

Awesome Garlic Naan, Incredible Butter Chicken, So cheap, Huge servings and without doubt the best value Indian food I have come across. Highly reccomended.

Food is very good, they open at New Year's Eve, so it is convenient to have a bite. It's location is great. Their friendly staff will welcome you. Highly recommended.

This is probably the cheapest indian in the area. When in the mood for indian after a day at the beach, this place doesn't disappoint if you're just after a quick (huge) feed for little money. Their meal deal is pretty good incl a drink.
Salutations
Salutations. Myself and a friend entered the premises on New Years Day, to be treated to
the deliciousness that was the FONI Lunch Special, 3 curries with rice with an additional can, water or lassi for simply $9.95. I became so excited I had to walk out of the store for a few moments to regather my consciousness. I then ordered the Lamb Madras, Butter Chicken and Chicken Tikka Masala along with rice, with water for the beverage. It was a satisfactory experience to say the least, but my gut tells me that the 3 curries simply overcrowded the situation, and as they say "less is more", which was extremely applicable. The standout was the Tikka Masala, it got me very excited. The other 2 also were entertaining, but not as delectable. Service was simply spectacular, kind and unbelievable. Get around FONI, you will be treated to quite a lovely experience, but be very careful to balance your moals correctly.

Yessss! Their meals taste so good!
The garlic nahn bread was very flavourless though.
There is seating available both inside and out.

I was not keen to go to Indian restaurants when I was in the UK as I often felt bloated after the meal. The Brits claimed that their Indian food was better than the Indian food in India, which was quite a statement for the British understatement. But I was also told by a British colleague that the Chinese restaurants in China was not as good as the Chinatown food in London. What can you say?

So since I moved to Aussieland, I deliberately avoided Indian food worrying that it would be even "better" than the British Indian food. I peeped into almost every restaurant in this street but not this one.

My friends visited me from the UK. They were instantly attracted to this place. Maybe the curry smell reminded them of Drummond Street. I just went along.

The food was simple and basic, but it is good quality homemade food, which means the cook does not deliberately disguise poor quality cooking with an overdose of seasoning. It is light. You can walk away with three choices of medium portion without feeling that you have to climb a mountain. Of course, having the steep slope of Coogee Bay Road just around the corner, you may also venture a large portion.

PS. The ambience should not be what you aim for unless you love bright lit room with softish and greyish low train seats.

It's your basic nothing special at all 3 curries for $10 bain marie Indian ..it is however one of the only cheap places in Coogee. Lunch special 3 curry n lassi for a tenner. Get in.

F.O.N.I. is mainly a take-away joint BUT, if you can tolerate the rather basic seating arrangements (just a few chairs and tables, no toilet, nowhere to wash your hands) you’ll find it excellent value for money as an eat-in option.

There’s no table service; you line up at the counter and purchase your meals before taking them away on little trays.

Happily for us on the Friday night that we dined, management had a $15 special. For that modest sum you got three different curries plus rice, naan bread (plain or garlic) and a drink (non-alcoholic of course, this being the nanny state where only “licensed premises” can sell alcohol to adults). And the queue for service was three-deep, testimony to F.O.N.I’s popularity among the locals. But the hard-working and patient staff here are clearly used to dealing with crowds and it didn’t take long to get served.
Despite the low price tag, there’s no skimping on quality or quantity. Portion sizes are generous and the curries were all fresh and tasty and smothered in those aromatic Indian herbs and spices that we love so much.

You’ll find F.O.N.I. at the bottom of busy Coogee Bay Road, just across the street from the famous (or infamous) Coogee Bay Hotel – which is just as well, since you’re going to need somewhere to wash all that curry off your hands afterwards.

This is a top little place for a casual, quick and inexpensive meal and we’ll certainly be back.

After a wholly unsatisfying visit to Sushigoi and a much more satisfying trip to Gelatissimo, we were still hungry and didn't relish the prospect of boarding the plane on an empty stomach. We walked past this casually bustling Indian takeaway, tempting us with the aromas wafting out from the bain maries. All the familiar favourites had a spot in the bain marie, and we chose one meat and two vegies. The serving was huge for the little money that we paid, and each dish was packed with flavour. The chicken was soft and tender and had retained all its juices. Even the vegetable dishes tasted really rich and wholly fulfilling.

Great, fast food. Had a great meal with mates here. Their food was as good as a much more expensive restaurant we know, and the service was fast and friendly.
Ben
Friendly service, good food and portions, good price and free byo.

Ok flavor, good value. I had chicken tikka masala and butter chicken for takeaway. They were so close in flavor I had a hard time distinguishing them. Lots of doof though: I had a medium and it was 10.90.

Great butter chicken and mango chicken. Quick & easy. Well priced too!
David
Great food! Really friendly staff. Best butter chicken I've had in a long time.
