Review Sushigoi - Coogee

with fabulous decoration and great service, this is always my best choice when I come to Cogee beach. You can tell all the food are so fresh and they also have wide range of menu including ramen and teriyaki beef . Really love they use the train to deliver your order! it’s very wonderful place for families

We visited SushiGoi for dinner tonight and unfortunately the evening started very unpleasantly and just went downhill from there. We ordered Saki which was served ice cold and at request it was heated up and subsequently delivered piping hot. The green tea came with a tea bag in a tiny cup and the Miso soup was served with a plastic spoon. We were asking for a proper spoon and were told that the restaurant apparently is not serving "normal" spoons because kids could get hurt. We are still confused, we ordered the miso - and we are not kids. The options on the sushi train were minimal, see photo. Dining areas for each customer generally have pickled ginger and wasabi on option? Not here. The presentation of the sushi was below average, with unevenly cut sushi and sashimi presented in weird looking heaps of rice. At some point the chef retrieved a packaged piece of tuna from the fridge. No guest wants to see that. One of the chefs wore his hat side ways with the ties dangling around his left ear. He washed the clear plastic lids of the sushi plates just from the inside by swirling around the water from the tap with his fingers. Seeing that, you can't help but start to visualise different types of bacteria cultures yet to be discovered, spreading over the kitchen counter. The manager advised us that this particular technique of washing the dishes was a requirement of council. Waverly Council? Needless to say our feedback was not received gratefully by the management which was disappointing, as some of the dishes actually displayed promising flavours. Overall dining experience, even for "casual dining" as the management described their food service, was underwhelming to say the least.

Amazing service, food and amazing interior renovation. Highly recommend! If you love sushi. Perfect for family/dates and with friends. Will definitely come back. Place looks so good with the renovations.

Decor looks nice but they had slow service, all fried food on the train was cold and chewy. The vibe was missing authenticity and soul. Very surprised to hear that they do not have any hot tea available. We were not offered the hot menu and only found out after overhearing another customer asking to see the hot menu. Food wise, quality was lacking, even more for the expensive plates. Taste was also lacking in sauce and texture. Very disappointed and wouldn't recommend due to the lack of service, vibe and quality.

I’ve read reviews when I arrived, but all I see was a lovely interior, felt fairly new perhaps it’s been renovated recently (wish took some photos)! Food was really fresh, super tasty, reasonable price and lovely service. I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Regularly visit SushiGoi, I always feel welcomed as the staffs are friendly and helpful. Aburi salmon and sashimi is my all time favorite. Happy to know hot menu is back. I will say Agedashi tofu is top one. Teriyaki chicken and miso soup are very nice as well. Love to explore more dishes next time.

The prices are high for the quality and size of meals. Service wasn’t excellent, I wasn’t welcomed as I walked in and I wasn’t offered a drink or anything when I sat down. Had to walk to the counter to pay. Nice and clean restaurant.

Used to love coming here, always fresh sushi and lots on the train. But after tonight I am done. Hardly anything to choose from. All the sushi ingredients were left on the bench with flies sitting on everything. I ordered a seared beef and they took an old one from the train, reheated it and put more sauce on top. Sushi used a wet/dirty chux cloth to continually wipe his hands on and cross contaminated raw salmon with chicken and tuna. Such a shame as this use to be the best sushi in town.

Been coming here for years. What happened since my last visit?? Service is non existent! No one welcoming people in - no one offering beverages - no one around to ask for the bill!
I asked the cashier if there were new owners - she said "new staff". How can a restaurant get rid of all the good staff and employ a total batch of incompetents? Sadly I won’t be back !

The lighting at night felt like the lighting in a prison interrogation room. Needed to be dimmed. Sushi was decent, nothing to complain about. Tempura was one of the worst I’ve had though - super thick batter, no flavour, not crispy. Would’ve given it 3 stars but the bathroom was gross.

Good decor. Fresh food . lovely staff . Beautifully presented . This made our weekend lunch nice. But There is also a room for improvement especially wasabi was not strong enough.

Great Sushi Train with a large variety of dishes. Had several of their sushi plates and all were quite fresh and tasty. They are located within walking distance to Coogee Beach.

Not the best sushi train I have visited. The waiting line was not attended to by staff until patrons in front of me continuously requested a seat. The staff took a longer than usual amount of time to clear the benches and adhere to customers requests when they wanted things ordered. Lack of variety on the train also.
Lucky, today was $2.90 per plate which I was very thankful for. I would not have paid their original prices due to their size and average taste.
Relatively quick service, even during the peak hours of lunch. It's quite pricier than other sushi places such as sushi train but the food here is not bad. They are always replenishing the sushi train and there seems to be an abundance of seafood sashimi, desserts and hot food items such as croquettes. However, there aren't any veggie options to choose from on the sushi train other than your standard cucumber, avo and vegetarian rolls. I ordered the veggie tempura which has was covered in a delicious crispy batter, but the choice of vegetables didn't really fit into the picture, or maybe I'm just a picky vegetable eater?. So the question is, would I come back here again?; maybe not since there is an abundance of other places in Coogee to try that are more vegan-friendly, but I definitely had a good experience here today.

A great selection of sushi, great ambiance, nice service and good quality food. Tried the sushi , miso soup and even the tempura udon. All are just scrumptious.

I went here because they used to have amazing $3 plates everyday but unfortunately not anymore. Prices are per plate colour depending on what you order. Typical ranges of sushis, but you can also order hot foods, salads and soups that look pretty good. I got sashimi salmon which was really fresh, a prawn nigiri grilled and a tuna and cucumber - all really nice sushi. Pretty busy. Staff were nice, a bit forgetful - asked for a few things twice. All good, it was nice.

The food is fresh and delicious (we ordered seared salmon roll and cooked tuna to go), although the a actual floor and surroundings of the restaurant could be a bit tidier and cleaner. It took approx 25 mins for the sushi chef to make our takeaways order, but that didn't bother me given the food was great. The service was lovely too.

I walked into this restaurant by accident. It was a rainy day. Usually would not come to a sushi place on a rainy day. But the room was bright lit and nicely patterned if looked from outside. A nice surprise. The sushi was fresh. The shape of the sushi is great. Which made them taste smooth and hearty. The miso soup warmed me up. Service was no nonsense. Suitable for a half drowned passer- by for a quick and "leave me alone" sort of meal. Very enjoyable.

Came here for lunch on Wednesday. Very affordable sushi place, $2.9 per plate Mon-Wed.

The food was decent and the staff were very friendly. Will definitely come back again!

We came here late on Sunday evening. They were welcoming. The sushi train, like any other offers a fabulous variety, more so of sashimi than many other sushi train places I have been to. They also serve a small selection of alcohol which can be nice. Overall, really enjoyed Sushigoi and wouldn't mind coming back again!

Sushi train has cheaper meals Mon-Wed We went on wed. Lots to choose from really nice cooked salmon. Had tiramisu surprisingly delicious. There was a queue to get in which is always a good sign.

Sushi train with a pretty wide selection and menu order options. The sushi ordered from menu is prepared instantly and much fresher than the ones on the train. Not totally impressed as there are better options in the city but not a bad choice for causal dining in the burbs.

The staff were very friendly but that's where the staff started and ended, I had trouble ordering from the add on menu due to language barrier so basically gave up and stuck to the train which is a shame

The food was good but not great, I have had better sushi before. Finally the selection on offer was rather disappointing, compared to other places not really a lot on the train to choose from
Pollo_pesce_me
Great Sushi train with wide variety and creative menu options. Sashimi was fresh, and sushi roll was good with not too much rice on them. Nice spicy tuna and avocado roll, Teriyaki chicken. I loved stuffed Zucchini flower, it has a great texture crispy outside and sweet and tasty fillings inside. I would definitely recommend this dish.

I can honestly say that what I ate at Sushigoi was the freshest sushi I've ever eaten in my life, and the restaurant is a buzzing, light and pleasant place to sit and enjoy a casual meal with a few friends. The sushi is made fresh infront of you and they were very accommodating when I ordered a custom sushi, which arrived hot! This was such a pleasant surprise! There is also a wide variety of delicious, fresh desserts to choose from and some great hot food varieties too. Also a great place to go with kids and family.

The quality and service is good. Plenty of options and great value for price!!
Go Monday to Wednesday as they have all options at $2.90 bucks. Only two blocks from the beach.

The ‘Spicy Tuna Crunchy’ was so good! The fried spicy garlic that it is topped with just blends in with the flavour and gives the rice a new, bold accompaniment. The ‘Salmon & Onion’ roll is also a definite must. The fish itself is very fresh and whilst you can get the plainer rolls, this is the place to be a bit daring.

Food was excellent! Would definitely recommend this if you like sushi trains.

We were pretty disappointed with the unfulfilling experience at Suhsigoi, because it has the potential to be so much more than what it currently tries to be. The location is prime, the decor is attractive, and there is a fully operational sushi train! It's the perfect setup, but sadly the food wasn't very tasty and the service was also lackluster. First up were my gyoza which looked pretty average and tasted just as it looked. When I placed my order, I had been cautioned that they would be vegetarian, which I didn't mind at all, but I wish they had also warned me that these would be lumpy, misshapen, and under cooked. We also had two sushi dishes that we chose from the small plates, because none of the larger premium options appealed to us. We didn't see anything on the train that piqued our curiosity for what they might taste like, nor did we spot anything which represented a good value proposition. Part of the problem was that there seemed to be a lack of leadership on the floor. There were lots of staff, cooking and serving, and not a lot of observing and thinking and managing. In fact, I felt that there were too many staff. A lot of the sushi chefs were just making plates without looking at what was on the train and what was leaving the train. As for the service staff, there were quite a few of them milling about, some huddled together in impeding social chit chat. Whilst the meal wasn't a great one, T and I did have a thrilling conversation how we could improve the operational efficiency of this place and lift the standard.

Their clever techniques and fresh approach make dining in or out of here a real thrill. A true hats off to the chef. London needs to take a leaf out of the Aussie’s book on this one.

The SushiGoi restaurant basically ran a train of food - the sushi kaiten concept - around a horseshoe layout - and apart from the main servings of bites rolling in front of you, you can also order sides from the menu and especially their udon.

Fantastic place! Be prepared to line up to get a table - very worthwhile! Food is delicious and reasonably priced. Place is very helpful and happy to assist you in ordering stuff that is not on the actual sushi train. Yum!

Too much mayo!. Disappointing - too much mayo. It's all a bit Westernised. Just give me great quality fish on perfectly cooked rice!

JUST DONT GO! The nori and sashimi were not fresh, the salmon on the sushi was even warm! When you are doing Japanese food, it should be well made esp. sushi and sashimi. It'll definitely make you sick if you eat this kind of sashimi/sushi! I have no idea how they get this high rate!

Always a pleasure. Fantastic, super attentive service. Amazingly fresh produce. Can't beat the early week special; $2.90 lunch plates.

The sushi is pretty good but they charged me $3 for a tiny cup of tea. And no teriyaki going around :(
Stephen Martin
Excellent fresh sushi at a reasonable price.

Utterly disappointed. If you have been to a sushi-train type restaurant in Japan, you would also be very disappointed by your experience at Sushigoi. It is just not the real thing. Types of fish featured were very limited; too many rolls and not enough nigiri as a result of limited variety of fish; rice was hard; rolls were not evenly made; portions are small for the price......
We didn't see any Japanese customers, or Asian customers dining in the restaurant.
We will no way return to the restaurant, and will never take Japanese guests there.

Sushi Choo in 'Choo'gee. My friend took me to this kaiten-sushi bar in Coogee. Initialy I was skeptical that there would be authentic Japanese in Coogee (where it is better known for their fish and burgers), but I was proven wrong.
Upon first stepping into the restaurant, it seemed like i had entered a high-profile restaurant in Westfield Sydney. The latticework wall design and centre-feature light added to the modern ambience of the restaurant
This modern trend continued onto the food. They served alot of aburi sushi (flame-grilled mayo) fish as well as beef which proved popular with the locals.
My favourite was the aburi scallop. Although there were only 2 per dish, each one melted in your mouth.
There were also a-la-carte menu's like udon, takoyaki and soft shell crab which I saw other customers order. The couple next to us ordered FOUR plates of the chicken and avocado slices (must have been good).
We tried the grilled salmon sashimi which was an interesting touch (normally sashimi is served just raw).
I notice they also have a neat online ordering system which I will try in the future for when I want a hassle-less takeaway dinner.
I will be back as it is rare to find such modern Japanese in the Eastern Suburbs

Well done, first time there it was packed, but the staff still greated me on the way in. 7.5/10

Voucher Buyers Beware!. Bought a voucher to check it out and catch up with local friends. Rang a week before deadline to check fine print re: bookings. Told very busy and unable to accommodate vouchers before deadline, so will be extending by 4 days. Arrived with still 2 days to go and told that there was no such offer. What was worse than implied deceit, they weren't busy. Not to honour voucher and offer is bad business! Also, from what I could see: They are the same as any other sushi train and nothing special compared with any of the other ones in Coogee - If anything, they are poky, on the main street and with no beach view!

Fun and tasty food. Sushigoi is a funky and buzzing sushi train bar in the heart of Coogee Beach. It's cheap and cheerful with plates ranging from $2.90 to $5.50 at most being sashimi and a few other things. The fish and seafood used tasted fresh but the slices and servings were slightly smaller than some other places and the quality and flavour not quite the same, hence the prices. Service was brisque including the hot dishes, which were also small - 4 fingers of agedashi tofu. It's great for a quick and healthy bite if you're in the area!

Great service and some good food. I have been to Sushi Goi about 4 times now and have found that the service is great and the food is generally good. I was a little let down recently when it seemed that all of the hot food was cold. I am fairly new to the whole Sushi train thing and prefer not to eat the normal Sushi but tend to steer towards the hotter foods like the Gyoza, grilled Salmon, tempura prawns and crumbed calamari's. These tend to be getting colder and colder each time I have been to Sushi Goi. Last time I went they were so cold I couldn't eat them and I don't think that this should be the case being around 8pm on a Friday night.

Nice new sushi joint in coogee. sushi was good and although it seemed a bit expensive we were given a 10% off loyalty card so actually works out to be reasonably priced $3-$5

service was excellent
