Review Eastern Sea - Coogee

Worst Chinese food I've had in a long time. Our (main) chicken dish came out cold and before the entrée. The fried rice came out last. Dumplings were as if they were frozen then thawed, then pan fried! Do not go for the overpriced $32.80 Golden King prawn... it's obviously a typo on the menu as all other prawn dishes are a reasonable $23.80, however they charged us this price for what was an awful (inedible) dish! Very disappointed. Service was friendly enough but not for an $80 meal for two!

Disgusting food! It had to be the worst Chinese I've ever tried to eat, the Golden king prawn dish was inedible, Santon chicken was cold, fried dumpling entrée were horrible and special fried rice was just warmed up mush. This place shouldn't be charging people good money to eat their rubbish, it should be closed down, eating here should have a health warning... eat here at own risk!! Doesn't even deserve 1 star.

Just gave this place another chance. The prices on the menu are NOT correct. The food is not what it was when I used to eat there all the time. The salt and pepper tofu is just PLAIN fried tofu with garlic that comes out of a jar on it and some fresh chilli. The beef chowmein was served with pieces of deep fried dried noodles?!? They charged $16.80 for the tofu and $18 for the beef chowmein? I returned the food to them after ringing them to tell them it was disgusting. Then when my friend returned the food he refused to give us the money back without the receipt which was on the table. As of now my friend is having to drive back to get the receipt as they can't accept a photo of the receipt sent to their mobile phone? This place is disgusting. Does NOT serve food as advertised on their menu. Bloody disgusting food. Would you like to eat fried plain tofu? I remember coming here with the previous owners all the time and the tofu was coated beautifully and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. Extremely rude restaurant owner, and pathetic 'chinese' chef. The food was bad but it was the rudeness of the owner/staff and shocking food that stopped me going back the past year. Unfortunately I'm sick and have forgotten how bad the place is now.

The food and service was all so horrible! The server took our order and I repeated what we wanted and what to avoid. The special fried rice for instance, I said no shrimp. He acknowledged , but then came and showed me his order taking notes and ask me about the fried rice saying no spring onions? I said no shrimp. However when we got the order from the owner, there was shrimp! OMG...and then he said what do you want me to do then? We ordered a Chicken chowder and a crab chowder - when served we asked which one is Which as they looked the same - he said - I don't know, just stir it up and you can tell by the meat inside!! WTH?? The crispy duck and chicken all super dry! Horrible. The deep fried tofu and squid , either too salty or oily. The sweet and sour pork - the worst I've had. I've had westernized Chinese food before and definitely a lot better now elsewhere. The most upsetting is how they claim the food is traditional Chinese- but I am Chinese myself. The staff English is poor and if you speak Chinese..make sure it's proper Chinese- according to the server - he spoke that - which is Mandarin! The food wasn't proper Chinese food and I feel sorry for the claim they make and the Australians who give them business. You can find proper Westernized Chinese food in other parts of Sydney. Be warned...

Came over from the states, and this is the best Chinese food I've ever had. The staff was friendly, the food came out fast, fresh and tasty. I had the long & short soup, and the others in my group had everything from shrimp fried rice to noodles with vegetables. No one left disappointed!

When you feel like good Chinese food nothing else would do and after a three hour walk to Bondi Beach and back I was starving. As a Canadian, traveling in Australia, sometimes you don't have access to WiFi and therefore a connection to a myriad of fellow Interneter's take on local food. I definitely recommend searching online review's before venturing into a restaurant because this resource of connected foodies does work and therefore you can avoid a restaurant such as this one. There was nothing wrong with the service or the cleanliness of the restaurant but the food was a huge disappointment. I ordered the mixed sweet and sour plate along with the special fried rice. The food was delivered to the table quickly and that, was a clear sign of the meal to be. The second indication was the food appeared lifeless, the special fried rice was nothing special and appeared to be special un-fried rice. The mixed sweet and sour plate came good on its word and arrived with a series of chicken, beef, shrimp, pork and mixed vegetables. In all honesty, based on the appearance of the two dishes I would had refused the food and walked out but that's not my style. So I started with the rice and as it appeared lifeless it was also tasteless. As for the sweet and sour dish, I pick out the shrimp, pork, beef and chicken avoiding the uncooked vegetables. By the look of the veggies, they had been tossed in the red sauce instead of being stir fried. The only, saving grace was when I mixed the sweet and sour with the rice and I must say... Avoid this spot on the main drag of Coogee. In the past, I've been given Chinese food cooking lessons from an Asian friend and quite honestly, this white Canadian boy could cook this Chinese restaurant under the table!

Was served a meal that had frozen pieces of meat throughout. Brought it to the attention of the owner who refused to acknowledge stating "this not possible". I suggested he try for himself which he declined. Owner refused to offer any discount. An absolute disgrace to food safety/hygiene and should be closed down immediately.

I like the chicken cashew-nut and Beef in Schechun sauce.

In terms of dining experience, the restaurant is, frankly, a little grubby.

The hot & sour soup is quite nice and the lemon chicken is tasty despite having bones in the meat.

It's quite expensive too given the quality of the food is not that high.

If you're stuck for a Chinese it's ok, frankly there are better Chinese restaurants locally.

Avoid at all

costs . overpriced and food only drunk tourists would eat much better chinese food at randwick.chicken blackbean was chewy and singapore noodles was full of crispy bits.a poor imitation of chinese food with a high price tag.coogee locals don't go here as a rule

I’ve visited again recently after having been here a few times previously. The restaurant is now under new management. I had the combination chow mein with crispy noodles and the combination short and long soup. The dishes were overall quite OK but they did seem to use more oil than previously and perhaps a request could be put through to reduce the amount used. The dishes also didn’t seem as holistic as before. The same ingredients were there but they just didn’t blend in together as well.

The service was friendly but there were a few minor lapses (bringing only one set of chilli sauce when two were requested and bringing two separate bowls for soup but with no accompanying spoons). I do get the impression that it’s a restaurant that needs to settle down a bit and it remains to be seen how it’ll turn out.

This place has gone downhill. Bought takeaway and it was absolutely tasteless. Mongolian lamb no flavor what so ever. Fried rice boring. Santon chicken was horrible. Dim sum flavorless. Save your money!

Awful food. Pieces of frozen meat intertwined throughout otherwise piping hot meal. No concession from owner who was not remorseful. Violently ill later that night. These guys need a visit from food safety/hygiene inspectors and should be closed down.

I shall cry the day this place goes. Has to be one of the best Chinese food establishments around. While the decor is plain and simple ( don't take a romantic date) the food is perfect.

A locals secret - fantastic for takeaway nights in. Eastern Sea Chinese is a great place to order takeaways for a night in, the food is great and simple and sticks to its roots. Great Chinese cuisine.

The staff are always polite and the service prompt, l love the Salt and Pepper Bean Curd it's crispy on the outside, soft in the inside with the right amount of chilli kick ...recommended for vegos :) (and they home deliver a dish like this packaged so I won't go soggy when delivered, little details like this make this no frills restaurant good at what it does).

Give Eastern Sea restaurant a chance and if you won't be disappointed.

In a word this place is shambolic and the food the worst example of suburban Chinese I have ever eaten.
The waiters cannot speak English and it took around 5 mins for me to convince him they must have noodles as represented on their menu.
After stomaching an entree of microwaved steamed dim sims my main arrived - well a main arrived. Not what I ordered. Being polite, it was close enough- chicken noodles are not too far away from combination noodles. No apology given despite alerting them to their mistake.
The main was a sloppy mess of undercooked chicken that did nothing but give me my lifetime MSG intake in one hit.
Give it a go... If you dare!
