Review Montezumas Mexican Restaurant - Coolangatta

Terrible Service, we arrived at 6:10pm Monday 4th April 2022 with 2 adults and 3 young children and waited over 20 minutes to be served then meals took over 1 hour to come out except my wife who’s meal took another 20 minutes on top of this at 7:50pm. After complaining to the manager that other meals came out to other customers before us who arrived later than us, she just offered excuses instead of looking after us. I have been coming here for years, won’t be back as our business isn’t valued. Could of offered a discount or a few drinks on the house and I would of been happy. Then wanted to charge me for takeaway containers on top of this. Won’t be back, terrible!!!!

Awful. I’m not a fussy eater and usually love Mexican food but I’m sorry to say that this was the worst meal I’ve ever paid for, and it wasn’t cheap either!! I ordered the Montezuma’s Delight. It was a mess. The only edible part was the bits of shredded beef… the rest was a whole stack of cold, raw chunks of celery, carrots, cauliflower and other raw veggies, some refried beans, guacamole (I think) and sour cream. Very weird and unappetising. The nachos were well below average also. The waiter was nice, but that was all.

Took absolutely forever... one meal came . Adventually the last meal arrived and it wasn't complete. By the time the wraps arrived meal was over. The wine by the glass is litrally sherry size! Rip off. It's obviously changed hands. Was over charged on bill. Had to wait 15 more minutes for refund. Never again

This is a small restaurant with a lot going on. Food was good and the staff friendly. The food did take a while to come out but they were busy. Definately book as they are busy.

We are regulars at Monty Cooly.Always have great food. We have never be disappointed. The beef tacos are the best anywhere!

Hands down the worst nachos I've ever had in my life. I have drunk and stoned friends who can make a better nachos in five minutes. If it wasn't for my spunky date I would have left as soon as the "food" arrived. Eat at your own peril. Staff were polite hence the one star. Just horrendous! What a gross all round experience.

STAY AWAY!! My family and I had dinner here tonight, as it was a Monday the other Mexican restaurant was closed, so we decided to give Montezuma’s a go. Food was DISGUSTING 🤮 inedible!!!! We paid $100 for 1 main, 3 starters, a kids meal and 2 cocktails, and left there hungry as we couldn’t finish the meals. Bland, dry and not fresh. I ordered and the food came to the table within 5-10 minutes. Everything is pre cooked and just reheated. I actually feel sick thinking of what I have eaten. If I could give it 0 stars I would. The bad thing is that places like this just keep turning over as tourists will walk by and just sit down and order. I will never return to one of the Montezuma’s restaurants again!!

Extremely disappointing service, meals and dinner experience � Terrible service, meals forgotten, over an hour wait, plastic pieces blended into margarita drink after asking for the third time when my drink was coming, split and curdled Queso Fundito dip. Left while still waiting on two meals and they had audacity to still charge for the meals we hadn’t received! Do not recommend this restaurant and will definitely not be going back!

The food was okay... not amazing, but quick service. Our family of 6 were at outside tables. During our meal we were interrupted by a lady trying to flog off her johovas witness dvds.... then by a woman asking us about rice... and then by other families who had already eaten inside but decided they would let their kids run around and play tag around our table.

Food was good but couldn’t do a decent margarita and did not have midori.

Not sure why there is such a low overall rating because I thought the food and service was great. Staff were friendly and helpful and food arrived fairly quickly and was hot and yummy. Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because my daughters tacos arrived after my main. Children's dinners should always be prioritised over adults meals at a table IMO.

Friendly staff. Quick lunch service. Love the vege burrito...value for $.

Always make sure we have a feed here when ever we stay at Cooly. Never made a booking, just walk in and never been a problem getting a table, food and staff great �

I Have purchase the entertainment voucher book which entitles us to buy one get one free main meal. The staff were very unhelpful and disallowed us to redeem our voucher. Staff produce a small sheet of paper from under the counter that stated the terms and conditions which they used to prove they didn’t have to accept our voucher. It would of been helpful if they had this displayed for all public to see..

Ordered takeaway last night and returned back to unit to get stuck into a nachos that all chips were stale and cold, opened up taquitos to find them burnt and all broken. Ended up throwing in bin , total disappointing should have went to Aztec instead. Never again.

Food was fantastic so was the service. Manager so lovely.

It’s been a busy weekend here so can see why the staff would be tired but glad to say the two waitresses were still working hard. Probably needed one more to cut table service waiting times. But all that said, they were polite and lovely. <br/>Just not sure about the food. It was a little bit and miss. Nachos was a major let down. Hardly any corn chips like you would expect. No melted cheese or flavour in the dish. <br/>I have attached some pictures, chicken was very watery and again lacked any real flavour. One of my my tacos also had just one rolled piece of mince, not good at all<br/>Sorry

Food was heavy and all pre prepared. Service was pretty bland and the decor is very outdated. Overall I wouldn’t come back and would suggest you don’t bother

Standard Montezuma's fare with yum sangria. Had a great evening out with the family. Friendly staff on a busy night. Nothing not to like really!

We drove past this place and noticed the “Buy one get one Free Monday” special so decided to return later on that evening.<br/><br/>The place was packed with people and there was a short wait at the “bar” for a table. This was fine, but the “bar” was just a chair beside the drinks fridge.<br/><br/>After a short wait and asking the staff what some of the meals were called, we got our table.<br/><br/>Looking through the menu, it was very broad and a tough decision. You’ll know what I mean if you go…<br/><br/>We had to wait nearly 10 minuted to order and noticed people were asked for their order before we were even though we were seated well before us.<br/><br/>They’re meals came out and then short after so did ours. Mine was not what I expected (I probably misinterpreted the menu description)- the “Mexican Chicken” I believe it was called.<br/><br/>The meal was nice, very tasty with those Mexican flavours, nice rice and beans etc. and overall was a great experience.<br/><br/>It’s worth pointing out how polite and accommodating the staff were towards us and the other guests.<br/><br/>I would definitely return.

The Swine understands that Montezuma's is related to the Aztec, which is another quality Mexican eatery in Coolangatta ..and the Gold Coast. The Swine does love both of these for their awesome meals and rather splendid dine in experience (hic!). The decor is earthy and bold and the meals are all fabbo. The Swine has had most of the menu here and has always been satisfied. The Swine does love the Nachos plate but burritos are also a winner. The Gwok is divine! Then there is also the bar and Margaritas...yes the Swine is a big fan. Arribbba - SWINE APPROVED.

Favorite place to eat in cooly. Everything about this place is awesome. The food is well priced always great deals and excellent service :)

I have tried the other restaurants in coolangatta and this is by far the best one yet. Great food and lovely staffs. Will definitely come back here

Went for dinner with friends and kids, great sized meals and great taste. Family friendly too.

Read the reviews on urbanspoon and thought we would give this a go over the other Mexican restaurants in the area. <br/>First impressions were good, authentic decor, polite staff, even some real Mexican employees. <br/>Ordered the Chicken Mexican and Combination Dinner Carne, they looked really good when presented to us even using real grated cheese not packet stuff, although with the chicken it was a little dry and flavourless and the rice also dry, the Carne rice was also dry and the chilli con carne was watery but the beef enchilada and taco were excellent. Good sized meals and reasonably priced, would go back again.

Great Mexican food!

This place is a gem. The food was delicious and above expectations. I highly recommend Queso Fundido as a starter and you cannot go wrong with the enchiladas or burritos. Beef personally was better than the chicken. I will be back when I am in town again.

The atmosphere is nice with Mexican styles decoration and colours throughout the building. The food came out on hot plates which was good because the food kept warm but watch your elbows because they are very hot. Ordering drinks must be done at the bar which makes a very small inconvenience but the food was good; well cooked and tasty.
