Review Vans Cafe & Deli - Cottesloe

Natasha
Great place to stop in for a coffee and cake or to grab some lunch. The menu looks incredible with lots of modern Asian flavours. The vegetarian Vietnamese rolls were delicious. $9 for a large sized roll full of fresh ingredients. The accompanying dipping sauce was delightful. Very peaceful place with a great ambience. Will be visiting again. Staff were so friendly and helpful. Loved the takeaway window and side seating. šŸ˜

Fresh food, very friendly and helpful waiter. Easy parking. Nice atmosphere. A bit pricey but the foods were well presented. The coffee could be better.

Lovely little restaurant. Friendly staff, greeted and served very promptly. Nice selection of Asian fusion food with plenty of variety. I will definitely be back to try out some more of their specialties.

I wish I didnā€™t have to leave this review but I felt it was important for others to know how terrible my experience was. The burger I ordered was less than ordinary. My friend and I were left for over an hour after our plates were taken by a very grumpy lady, with no service while everyone around us was asked if they would like desert/coffee/anything at all. It was as if we were being ignored! I definitely donā€™t intend to revisit a place with such atrocious food and service again.

Stopped into vans spontaneously with my husband for a late brekkie and coffee. I had the whole crushed as avocado and a flat white , the avocado was beautiful they werenā€™t shy with the serving size. The coffee is outstanding. High on my list of recommendations.
Samuel Thornhill
Friendly staff, fast service, and great coffee. We came in without a booking (not a smart idea, I'll admit) and still were accommodated for. Food-wise, the Hawker Roll and the Whole Crushed Avocado are both sensational - must have's! My wife and I are 10000% coming back.
Sonia N
This has been a local fav of ours and has yet to disappoint. Recently tried their potato skins nachos and theyā€™re so crispy and tasty! We also always order their beef salad.

Service twice is not based on 1st come 1st served. It's bias service that has missed serving my family twice now. Atrocious. My child confused why she cannot order breakfast! Leaving hungry again No water, dirty tables, no menu given. Explained kindly to waitress and was ignored for service again!

Iā€™ve been meaning to try Vans for a long while, and itā€™s definitely a popular location, situated in Napoleon Street behind Boatshed Markets. I immediately loved the vibe of the cafe ā€“ friendly staff, a great looking cake cabinet, jazzy music and nice decor, and it had quite a buzz about it but wasnā€™t so loud that you needed to shout. I chose fresh orange to start which was good and vibrant ā€“ great flavour.
Emma Lawlor
Coffee is beautifully strong. Staff are warm and friendly. Iā€™ve been going here for years.

Easily the worst matcha latte ive had from any cafe. Such a shame when the food is amazing. Learn how to make a proper matcha latte then ill be back.

Superb food - absolutely beautiful. Service great. This was not a cheap meal - $300 for 4 of us because the booze really hiked up the total. I wouldnā€™t go regularly at this price, but certainly canā€™t fault the food choices or flavours - it was really delicious.

Frequent Vans often and enjoy the experience. Tonight , three out of the four us had great meals, unfortunately I was the odd one out. The Wagu burger was the driest and most tasteless burger i have had. When paying I was asked were we happy with the meals, I acknowledged the other three meals were excellent but the burger was sub standard. The reply from the chap behind the counter was surprising - "I actually had one a couple of days ago and I thought the same was his reply",Ā <br/><br/>Not Good Vans, Pick Your Game Up

I come here all the time when Iā€™m around the area. I have never had a bad meal, or coffee... give this place a go, food is consistent, tasty and well prepared. Good quantity and nice service.

I am not a big fan of salads, sorry to admit it in the era of healthy lifestyles. I am more for a serious hot lunch and not just a bunch of veggies.<br/>BUTā€¦ the #superfood #salad from Vans in #Cottlesloe has conquered me. It was a hearty mix of grains, topped with crunchybroccoli, roasted eggplant, kohlrabi, all dipped in a rich-flavoured #balsamic #dressing, and a bunch of #tasmanian #smokedsalmon . Really yummy!
CL
Lunch on Friday. Amazing Barramundi. Perfectly cooked, superb beets and warm salad to accompany. Friend had beef salad. Loved it. Different taste due to fennel? but still fantastic. Can never go wrong with the food at Vans
J_cinta
I got the Hot Potato Cake with smoked salmon, was really tasty with a generous amount of salmon, even the spinach was cooked perfectly. Mum got the Pea, Mint & Ricotta eggs, she also really enjoyed it. Food came out relatively quick considering they were super busy too. Thanks for the lovely service ladies.

Cool place, good quality food and lots to choose from on the menu. My friends and I had breakfast here and we all enjoyed it. One staff member was a little rude however and it's very over priced so be prepared to pay more! I would still like to return for either breakfast, lunch or dinner.
Sophia
Iā€™ve come here twice now and both times have been amazing. Theyā€™re always packed but the service is very fast and the food, although on the pricier side is definitely worth it. I had the miso eggplant (10/10) and my sister had the kingfish poke bowl (9/10).
KKA
We always come here for breakfast and it is 10/10. the service is good, and we can mostly find a table that isn't terrible. We came here for dinner recently and ordered the carrot and manchego fritters which were amazing. We also ordered the poke bowl, which contained salmon on the day. This bowl had warm rice, which caused the salmon to start cooking and detracted from the freshness of the dish. It was also inexplicably sour. Nevertheless will come here again - and steer clear from the poke bowl!
Sonya
Came here for breakfast last weekend and managed to get a table for two very simply despite being packed. I ordered an ice coffee as my beverage and it was made perfectly to my taste which was a big positive. To eat, I had the jalapeƱo and cheese corn bread which sounded a bit different to average breakfast choices so I was excited to try it. Unfortunately it fell short and the corn bread was pretty tasteless and dry. They other parts of the meal were nice and tasty thankfully. My boyfriend had the pulled port chimichanga and he felt this also somewhat fell short on flavours. <br/>Though this visit didnā€™t hit high with my expectations, I would definitely come back and give it another chance to see if it was just an unlucky bad day! The staff were all friendly and extremely efficient. My coffee had clearly been spilled slightly when being brought down to me and so it made a bit of a mess on the table. One of the servers saw this from afar and came straight over to clear up the spill!
Wwk
Foods average my chips were awful Iv never had worse chips they were sooooo soggy and cold I was shocked. Pumpkin in the curry was under cooked so the skin was waxy and he cocktail tasted like water. Small serving size considering the price! Wonā€™t be back<br/>

My favourite restaurant in Perth. Have been coming here for 15 years and it never disappoints with either food, value, ambience or service. The wide range of their menu ensures everyone will find something they like and in a price range thatā€™s comfortable, day or night. Best scrambled eggs in town- aged cheddar and chives and perfect sourdough. Every dish is prepared with attention, intelligence, consistency and care. Thai beef salad is another favourite, generous and packed with flavour. Everything about Vans works - well done.

Seriously overrated. I have dined at Vans for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I wouldn't recommend. Prices are as you would expect in the western suburbs and staff were inexperienced and didn't know what they were trying to sell to the customers. Will not be returning
Tam P
Real nice place. The guy who showed us to our table is possibly the nicest human I've ever met, but all the staff were really lovely. We had the braised lamb shank, red duck curry, and some spring rolls and fries to share. Everything was perfect, & the spring rolls were surprisingly good. Too fat to get dessert tonight, but their crumble looked daaaamn good. Oh and the decor etc is really nice, my only complaint would be that it was quite crowded (but I'm not surprised when the food is that good). Definitely recommended!
Miss Y
Unimpressed. Swung by to get a coffee prior going to work and least to say it will be my first and last visit. I will never be back. The counter lady serving was rude and hostile. Coffee was fine but the rude snobby attitude has left a bad taste.
BigRon
This place always appears busy so thought we'd try out for dinner. Decor is cool with an interesting powerline type effect across the ceiling. Water brought to table on arrival. Drinks list is good for a cafe style restaurant with bottles of wine starting around $42. Wait staff friendly but our particular waiter was not attentive and you essentially had to literally catch him as he walked past to order anything at all. Once we eventually got our order in the food was brought very promptly and was delicious. The brussel sprouts were fantastic, fried eggplant lovely, rice paper roles as good as I'd had anywhere. Again we were never offered coffee, another drink or dessert as the waiter never came back to us in 40mins of clearing the table. I had to get up and chase him to get the bill. Was $130 for 2 people including a $62 bottle of wine. Food great - service average.
Shan
$62 for lunch: 2 small lattes, 1 shared entree & 2 mains (pictured) that's more like entrees. Staff swept floor while cafe was full with Sunday lunch crowd. Won't be back in a hurry.
Vanwyk59
Worst service <br/>We were kept waiting over 75 minutes for meals. Wait staff were rude saying there was nothing they could do to speed up the kitchen. The manager refused a discount just kept saying "thank you for your feedback". Average food. <br/>Avoid this over priced unfriendly place<br/><br/>
Edward Wang
Great Asian twist on breakfast classics done well. Highlights include their corn fritters, avo smash and potato hash. Vans also is always changing up the menus to keep things fresh.<br/>Winner at dinner as well. <br/><br/>All round one of my favourites in Perth.<br/>

We came here for Saturday breakfast and sat out in the sun. Lovely atmosphere and menu extensive. Fuss free ordering sides. Presentation was boring. Avocado came out in its skin. Wasn't bad but def not amazing! Crispy bacon was actually crispy- which was good. Wouldn't go back but worth a visit.
Muse
not really impressed by this place though its nice to sit outside. had the breakfast tacos and felt let down with what came out. the prices are through the roof for eg a big breakfast is $25. the menu is also a little obscure for breakfast. just stick to the basics.
Foodnmytum
Agree with other reviews that the attitude of the staff is rude. Not all staff were, but two is plenty. Ordered a long macchiato - was given a large flat white. For those that don't know, a long Mac isn't filled with milk- it's two shots of espresso the milk should only be a splash. I was presented with a large cup filled to the top with milk. I said politely, "excuse me I asked for a long Mac" the "barista" said "it is a long Mac", and "you didn't ask for a traditional long Mac" and grabbed my coffee and said that I must be from the eastern states. I didn't know what to say. The other customers in the line went quiet and one said "I hope they don't spit in your coffee".<br/>The baristas need training. No: a long Mac isn't topped up, unless you ask for it topped up. If you think a long Mac is a large flat white then you shouldn't be working as a barista. If there is confusion then you should ask the customer if they want it traditional or topped up. Overall the attitude left me wondering why you would ever want to go back? The prices are expensive, the barista is rude, and the coffee tastes like ash. <br/>To the management- I think you need to take a long hard look at what you are delivering as customers should not be made to feel like sh*t.

Meh. Pros - exTensive menu, beautiful decor, doggy friendly. Cons - exPensive menu, food nowhere near worth it. Pork dish over 50% fat. More pros than cons but with a hefty con I wouldn't come back. Plenty other places charging more reasonable prices and offering more drool worthy dishes.
Petite Pair
Fake butterflies hang off wires stretched across the ceiling in an unexpected decor move and the breakfast menu continues this subtle otherworldly vibe. Ā It has an interesting mix of spicy, sweet and classic brekky dishes with Asian flavours worked in such as mango and coconut chia pudding, son in law eggs and a Indonesian fried egg dish with lap cheong and sambal. Our food:

Down on the corner....sitting out there in the street, enjoying a lazy lunch, faithful hound at our feet (obviously to the tune of CCC)<br/><br/>The dog friendliness of Vans is where I will start with the staff being very welcoming of our four legged friend. <br/><br/>And noting so many reviews cite poor service here, apart from possibly a little slow to take orders, we thought it fine. <br/><br/>The food for mini 1 & 2 was a Sunday staple of fish and chips, which they happily devoured, but to remain critical announced that it was "not the best they had ever had". Evidence was that it was certainly satisfactory though. <br/><br/>For the more mature diners, the twice cooked pork hock and the soft shell crab. <br/><br/>The first being tasty but tiny (unless fat is to your liking) and the latter being very tasty though the batter could have been better, a little bit solid, tempura team, tempura!!<br/><br/>Have now been to vans a couple of times, easy, central and good diverse menu. However I am sure that there are better places at cheaper prices. So go, or don't...up to you..
Pris
3.5 rating <br/>Not bad and in a great location. <br/>Beautiful outdoor and perfect to sit outside in good weather.<br/>Tumeric latte was ok, not the best I have had<br/>Lemongrass skirt steak with kimchee and coriander butter was yummy $25 though I don't know if coriander butter made any difference (couldn't find it ?)<br/>Hot potato cake with smoked salmon and poached egg $25 was yummy too.<br/>I have tried my friend's blue manna crab spaghetti $34 and for that price it does not beat Must wine bar's version. <br/>All in all, great location to meet friends and head to the beach before/after. For the price and quality it was not bad but not outstanding so I would come here again but probably not so often as I do not live nearby.<br/>

Dropped in for a post movie snack & coffee tonight with mum. I love the vibe of this place. It is stylish yet casual. Service was exceptional and their menu very impressive. Nothing plain jane here. Modern australian with an asian influence with small and large plates on offer. We shared the beef burger from their specials menu and it was one of the best i've had. My rushed picture doesn't do it justice. The coffee and passionfruit cheesecake (filled with a layer of passionfruit jelly) were wonderful too. I can't wait to return and try many of their delicious sounding meals, salads and cocktails.
Anne-Marie Rowland
While the food is excellent the service is poor and watch out of the attitude. <br/>I can recommend the fritters and drinks are great. <br/>The atmosphere is good but it can get a bit loud with everyone enjoying themselves.
Cinder
Creative food which is extremely yummy. Very impressed with our meal tonight. I really love how everything is beautifully presented with such flair, care and freshness. (I am always impressed with crispy fresh salads and garnishes which are not an afterthought....for some reason many food establishments struggle with this simple concept.) Vans is stylish but casual, and the service is above average. There is a whole lot to love about this place and it is certainly amongst the best in the area. It has the vibe of established confidence.
Chantal
Very friendly service! <br/>I had smashed avo on rye bread. There was plenty of avocado but my rye bread was rock hard and not very nice. My friend had a Thai beer salad which she said was pretty average. The coffee was okay...
Danial
It has a nice ambience and decor. Coffee is decent and food is good but is a bit overpriced but I think it is trend in most of the cafes in cottesloe.

Coconut fried tiger prawns : my sister and I ordered 1 each. Both very dry cos they were over cooked. Not a bad little side salad with it however way too much chilli. Waited over half hour for our wine after ordering. Service poor. Mentioned after payment that the prawns were poor and they apologised but really couldn't give a sšŸŽ¼šŸŽ¼t. Was thinking of dessert but was told would have to get up and look at the dessert bar (again tired waitress wasn't interested even in tempting us in what we'd find there). Each time I go there I think why do I come back apart from it's easy for my sister to find, but after today I'd go across the road (or lay on it) or anywhere in preference as there's not a lot going for this place. It's had its day and over rated.

Went to Vans for brekkie on a Public Holiday - they added a 20% surcharge to their already prices menu - an egg white omelette at $30 pre surcharge if high - even for Cottesloe<br/>Menu was fiddly - nothing basic about it , but that seems in line with the current trend of making a whole story about very little<br/>I have eaten at Vans many times over the years and enjoy their good but I won't be back for breakfast !
Minali Gamage
Great busy vibe and energy at this place for breakfast. If you want a more chilled vibe ask for tables at the back. Fritters were delicious and their matcha and turmeric lattes were very drinkable. Service with a smile.
Blong
Best Spicy Thai Beef Salad in Perth! The food is great although the service can be hit and miss. Regardless they are always busy and have great food and juices šŸ˜šŸ‘ŒšŸ»

The corn and coriander fritters with eggs and chilli jam were amazing!! Would definitely go back to try more. The fruit smoothies were great too.

Great breakfast and lunch spot. The tables are a little cramp but otherwise fine. The menu is creative and has a great variety of food - making a choice is very difficult! The only confusing part is the two sections, one starting 12 noon - 5pm and the other 12.30pm - 5pm. Not sure what the half an hour difference is about. <br/>The smoked salmon salad is delicious and fresh, the open chicken sandwich was also great. <br/><br/>
Black Coffee For Me
Have been going to Vans for years and it's fantastic to see a consistently fabulous standard of food. Last Saturday didn't disappoint the mushroom on toast was amazing full of flavour and cooked to perfection, charred brussel sprouts and goat tagine beautiful for the wintry weather. Service friendly and efficient....well done Vans
LittleGirlBigFood
This is always a pleasant place to sit and watch the world go by. I recommend off times when there is less traffic. Make use of the coffee window too if wanting breakfast on the run.

I have breakfast here 4 or 5 times a year with friends.<br/><br/>The food is generally excellent although I wouldn't recommend the porridge as it's got ginger in it which just doesn't work for me.<br/><br/>The coffee is good, the service always friendly and it's got a good all round vibe.<br/><br/>
Sasha Lai
Coffee here is next level! We went in to have breakfast which we assumed was all day after reading signage however they do break from 11.30-12 and then start the lunch menu which has some offerings of the breakfast menu still available- sadly we were starving and I didn't find the menu exactly thrilling but we ordered coffee before heading off- coffee was the best I've had this year! Amazing! And there was totally zero judgment from not having ordered breakky or lunch .

Presented on a rectangle plate is a jar filled with chia almond milk pudding and crunchy granola. Sliced banana, kiwi fruit and strawberry top the tasty bowl adding a nice sweetness. I love the contrast of smooth to crunchy. It isnā€™t until Iā€™ve almost spooned most of the contents of the jar that I truly appreciate the spoon of extra granola on the side ā€“ genius idea!
The Perth Brunch Blonde
Vans is an oldie but a goodie with numerous options for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Ā We dropped by for breakfast one morning Ā Amazing buttery and fluffy scrambled eggs! The potato cake and smoked salmon is a good one to try too. Ā Great coffee too.
LifestyleByLily
Ms. D and I arranged to meet for our usual Saturday morning breakfast. This particular weekend, we decided to go to Cottesloe as Ms. D want to check out a recommended cake shop after breakfast. When we arrived at Vans, we immediately felt involved in a busy atmosphere of chattering tables and busy staff running around clearing tables and serving customers.

Been here twice in the last couple of weeks for lunch and brekki<br/>Enjoyed both meals and service was good both times.Ā <br/>Didn't have to wait for a tableĀ <br/>Good menu selection<br/>Been back again and again and have not been disappointed.

Visited Vans for the second time... returning just for the brussel sprouts! Their dish has made me a brussel sprout convert!! <br/>Started with a lemon curd cocktail - & I am in love šŸ’— <br/>The sprouts were scrumptious & didn't disappoint!! I also ate the tiger prawns, with a yummy fresh apple & fennel salad. Friends had the lamb shank and the ragu both scrapped their plates clean! <br/><br/>Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area... or want to travel for a yummy dish!<br/>
Jo
Beautiful location, excellent service & yummy food! My go-to place for a casual champagne breakfast with the girls. I love the vibe from this cafe, have been previously for coffee and cake and was very impressed with their selection of cakes & sweets. Highly recommend. Bravo Van's!
Veevee
Vans is a great spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner. If I had to pick one, it would be dinner for sure- the food here is absolutely delicious and the menu offers a great range of unique options.
Emma
lovely food and staff.<br/><br/>Have been here a few times but the most recent was on a public holiday with a friend, we didn't have a booking and they were quite busy. The staff were very friendly and went out of their way to find us a table. And not to mention the food was especially good on this occasion
Sophia Joan
Van's is awesome! Thanks for making our Thursday night special. The service is amazing & we laughed so much while enjoying a delicious meal xxx thanks to the guys & gals who looked after us :)
Ferrosity
Lovely fresh food and great service - thank you!<br/>As usual, the food was fresh, clean and tasted as great as it looked. All my co-diners enjoyed their lunch and the service was equally as good as the food. When in Cottesloe I don't think that there's a better place to eat. <br/>
Shaydock
This used to be just another breakfast place for me with good bacon and eggs. Then I had the donuts yesterday - amazing. Up there with Sayers's donuts for me.
Dentalnurse
Went for lunch with husband and teenage daughter. We all had the special which was a fillet steak sandwich costing $29 each. We have never had something so awful, the steak was fatty and cut up in little slices! Not enjoyable at all. Totally put us off going back to Vans again.
Sheldyn Garnaut
Should be a self service cafe! <br/>Had to clear our table, get our own water and order at the counter, when it's apparently table service! Counter staff rude and repeat its table service, but you don't get served. Don't think I'll be back anytime soon
Baz B
This is the third time I've visited this place. The initial 'experience' was well below par. I arrived to the place and proceeded to the counter- was advised that there was table service. I gladly selected a table and waited... 10, 15, 20 minutes... No menu... I proceeded to collect a menu from the counter and after making my selection started to wave my menu in an ironic surrender-like manner. Finally a waitress arrived (unapologetically) and took my order. <br/><br/>I thoroughly enjoyed my subsequent breakfast and coffee and marked this down as an anomaly in service. <br/><br/>The next two visits presented me with a much more exasperating experience in terms of expediency of service- where following my (fortunately delicious) meal I presented the waitress at the counter with the question "am I missing something here? Over half an hour to get a menu - let alone get my order taken seemed unusual; considering this has occurred on 3 occasions". <br/><br/>The response was the usual "I'll let my manager know"... I think the floor management ( or whatever that is called in restaurant speak) needs some real work, as I don't appear to be the only perturbed face in the place!<br/><br/>The answer from a 'non-restauranteur'- menus & water on entry.... Easy!

Iā€™ve been to breakfast at Vans a number of times now and the food has never disappointed me. Ā Serving sizes are reasonable and flavours are great and this bircher muesli was no exception to that :). Ā  Beautifully fresh with just the right amount of honey for sweetnessā€¦ the perfect breakfast! Ā Iā€™m keen to give their lunch and dinner menus a try next.
Lady Marmalade
Bustling with a breakfast crowd on a Friday morning, but we got a table. Ā I ordered potato cake with spinach, smoked salmon, poached egg and lemon butter. Ā The lemon butter bought the dish together perfectly. I also had a fresh squeezed fruit juice of melon, apple and ginger, yum. Ā Loved my brekky. My friend had the avocado on rye which she enjoyed too. Ā Serves are filling and will last me all day until dinner. Loads of other delicious looking plates coming out, will want to go back and try more. Ā The vanilla slice looked delicate and sublime.
Renato
Fantastic coffee and nice back area (quieter than the bustling front room). My corn and coriander fritters with soft poached eggs and chilli jam were delicious. I asked for medium eggs and they were perfectly cooked. Service is fine, but staff could smile more.
Cornflakegirl
Friday 1st January<br/><br/>I'm giving them 5/5 for the service on a public holiday!! This was the only place open and they were heaving . Every member of staff was friendly smiling and efficient. They knew they were so busy so they tried to preempt any customer needing anything. My friend and I just shared the pancakes which were lovely but I couldn't have managed a whole one I liked that the cream was slightly soured which balanced the sweetness of the dish. Raspberries were fresh and delicious too!
Cassie
Went to Van's Cafe for brunch on Sunday and the place was very busy. I ordered the Indonesian fried eggs which came garnished with kecap manis, coriander, bawang goreng and lapcheong. I enjoyed the Asian twist that makes it different to the usual breakfast options available at cafes. I didn't like the bread it came with though- it was dry and over toasted. I'd like to come back and try lunch or dinner here too.
Taste Sensations
Fabulous. The coffee is very good. The food is great with a good range of different options. I had son in law eggs and it was excellent. I love the garden room out the back. <br/>All the patrons look good too. Neat and well presented. Service is good.

I spotted Vans from Cottesloe train station and we decided to pay them a visit on NY day. Oh my! This place was so super busy it was impossible to stand in one spot without being in someone else's way. The place is eccentric and beautifully laid out with seating inside, out front and out back. I ordered a green smoothie which was probably one of the best I've had yet. My friend ordered a chocolate banana almond muffin and it was huge. Loved that the chocolate was melted and the slithers of almond gave it a delicious crunch. Towards the pricier side of things but definitely worth a visit if you're at the Cott.

Been in for breakfast and lunch during our time in Perth. This place is a standout cafe and restaurant and suits my family and friends taste for brilliant food with great balance and flavour. The team in the kitchen are very talented, the table service was spot on and the coffee suits a Melbourne cafe foodie to a tee. Loved it and wished it was our local.
Bethany Donoghue
Just checked out this little place, was a very weird atmosphere felt that the decor and food didn't go so well. It portrayed it's self as as nice boutique evening restaurant but came across as a cafe open at the wrong time. Staff were lovely but too noisy and felt almost like they were rushing me to hurry up and eat despite no one else wanting to be in my sit. It was very strange, the food was ok but won't be a huge loss if I don't ever go back since the beef Angus had far too much blue cheese on. Great location and cocktails, but nothing to loose sleep over if you miss out.

What a sunny day for beach! So perthfoodieee x2 had decided to go visitĀ Vans cafe before heading to Cottesloe beach. It was pretty crowded as we visited it during weekend but it did not take us long for the wait. The staffs were so nice and friendly. The atmosphere is kinda relax forĀ chill. I actually did not really take a lot at the reviews before heading into Vans and thatā€™s why their Asian inspired dishes impressed me. I thought it was just a cafe that we used to go, but then it turned out to beā€¦. wow, what an idealĀ spotĀ to spend with your loved one! And I actually wannaĀ order a lot more from the menu but well, we got 2 persons only.

Great place to have brunch. Atmosphere is very relaxing and chilled. We went on a Sunday and it was absolutely packed, I had the potato cake which was great. We also tried the famous eggs which was the reason why we went here as we saw on the news that it was supposedly one of the best things to try in Perth. Found it pretty good, a bit too spicy for my liking. I also had the gourmet hot chocolate which was tasty but expensive.
Nasilele Mubyana
This place gets busy and people often call in to book a table for lunch, or else there are no spaces left. Having said that, we went for breakfast right before midday, so missed the early morning and start of lunch time buzz. The serving size is decent, the menu extensive and the food tastes good.
Tambourine
I just can't go past good food, genuine staff, kid friendly, time and time again. I think sometimes I should try somewhere new for our special family dinners out but it's so hard to find a venue that is ok with kids AND such fine healthy food. Vans you've done it again.
Louie
This place is great. Good coffee. Had the whole smashed avo on toast with a poached egg. Perfectly poached.<br/>Good spot for a bit of people watching too
FreshS
Fresh and reliable even after 15 years.<br/>And some people have been coming for much longer!<br/>Truly professional management and chefs that take pride in the way they handle Ā good produce.<br/>Despite the fact it can be noisy this gets five stars for me - it's where I go any time of day and know I will eat well . Ā The place for a good glass of wine, excellent fish and a green salad.<br/>Perennially fresh

Heard great things about this cafe and the queue outside looked promising. Ordered a super food salad and salt and pepper squid, unfortunately out came two tiny portions which would've struggled to feed a small child. Throw in a creepy waiter who made a point of seeing if I'd dropped any food down my shirt and you've got a great lunch at Vans. Coffee was alright.

Vans... what can I say apart from the fact it's been around since time immemorial. The food is consistently well prepared, fresh and delicious, year in year out. Vibrant and cheerful decor, pleasant staff and chef always has a huge grin on his face whenever he's behind the counter.<br/><br/>I like their Asian inspired salads and rice paper rolls. Breakfast is good too. I still remember being addicted to their shellfish pasta dish from 7-8 years ago lol. <br/><br/>Given my annoying peanut/most nuts allergy, I'm appreciative of the fact that wait staff are well informed on what goes into the making of a dish. And if they're uncertain, there is a good line of communication between wait staff and the kitchen. <br/><br/>Today's lunch was shredded duck with the noodle salad from the lemongrass beef salad as peanut oil is used to marinade the beef. Love the spicy kick with the candied red chillies cheerfully scattered throughout the salad. <br/><br/>For drinks, it was a long black (had soy or almond milk - both of which I find icky), a "Virgin Mary" (it had the right balance of peppery heat) and a citron presse.
THE ILLUSIVE FEMME
Lovely staff, we were seated in the cute back area that was so nice and private! Ordered the potato cake with salmon and poached egg. Egg cooked perfectly, salmon was fresh and the potato cake was thick and flavoursome! Coffee on point!

Ideal spot for a tinder date you want to impress if you swiped right because the person write in their profile that they love food. Or their profile picture was of food. <br/><br/>Whilst that is technically not a personal experience, this place is perfect for a relaxed but something special dinner date. <br/><br/>The menu has a great range and I was very tempted to try a few of the Asian inspired dishes but my grumbling stomach won out to get the solid pork belly. <br/><br/>The absolute star though was the sweet potato tart that came as a side to Adam's sirloin steak. So silky and perfect with the horseradish and the huge (perfect medium rare) steak. <br/><br/>Visited for lunch before a long time ago and we said we would be back. After that dinner we will definitely be visiting frequently.

My second time visiting vans cafe, vans offers great fresh ingredients in all aspects of their menu. This is evident not only is the rich full flavours, but in the presentation. Will definitely frequent this cafe.

When organising a venue for a meeting with an interstate colleague, I decided to branch out of my usual coffee favourites and suggest somewhere new. We wanted to be near the beach but somewhere that would be quiet enough to discuss work. Vanā€™s Cafe in Cottesloe seemed to fit the bill after reading online reviews, and we were not disappointed.

Yesterday, my mum and I stopped in for a quick lunch at Vans Cafe in Cottesloe. We hadnā€™t planned to eat here, so we just used the Zomato to recommend something nearby. We had been shopping at The Boasted Market and seeing as Vans was only around the corner, we decided to give it a try. When we arrived and saw that it was busy and bustling, we knew it must have been a good choice!

Consistently excellent! The food at Vans is always wonderful, and the staff are very friendly and attentive. Will hopefully remain a regular for a long time.

Personally, I think $15 for boiled eggs and toast soldiers is a massive ripp off. But it fits well with the area I s'pose. Coffee was great! And everyone else seemed to enjoy their meals.

A great recommendation!<br/>Very busy cafe for breakfast but a quick turnover of customers as food is quite prompt.<br/>Amazing choices for breakfast and even a glass of fizz to accompany it.

Thursday dinner, yet more staffing problems with the main gone missing. No I'm serious after 45 minutes, "please tell us what you ordered?"<br/><br/>A few too many back packers employed here.Ā <br/><br/>Starter and mains were delicious.
Perth Bars
My boyfriend and I tried the burger special of the week - a caesar salad inspired monstrosity - which he claimed "was one of the best burgers he's ever eaten in Perth". Well done Vans!
Food Sponge
One of my favourite, go-to cafes in town. For breakfast, lunch, dinner, dessert or just for a coffee. Despite being located on one of the most up-market streets in the affluent western suburbs, Vanā€™s still has a welcoming, bustling atmosphere with the type of casual chic that other cafĆ©ā€™s can only try to emulate...

Hard to beat. We go back to Van's again and again. Why? I ask my wife, where shall we go and we keep agreeing: Van's is hard to beat?<br/><br/>It's simple, really. The food is always good, and often outstandingly good. Okay, once they forgot to put the rabbit in the rabbit paella, but we've been so many times that this oversight was forgivable. And they gave us the main without charge.<br/><br/>Van's is generous, attentive and unpretentious. The managers know their wine and have often given me numerous free tastes, and advice to guide me in the right direction. Wine is important to me and I have discovered a few winners here.<br/><br/>Anton, one of the managers, is a gem. He recognizes his patrons and treats them like VIPs - I admit to enjoying his royal treatment.<br/><br/>The menu changes, always new things to sample, the prices are reasonable and fair, very much in a Perth context (read: everything costs more here in Perth). And the atmosphere is always congenial.<br/><br/>We can often get in without a reservation, something we greatly appreciate.<br/><br/>The main room can get pretty noisy, usually itā€™s a happy vibe. But if you want it more subdued, quieter and to discuss serious matters like how bad the government is - then I recommend the back room (aka courtyard).<br/><br/>Why do we keep going back? Van's is hard to beat.

Van's used to be top notch, but as so often happens in Perth - popularity leads to arrogance and cutting corners.<br/><br/>Went for breakfast today: <br/>1) Yes they were busy<br/>2) LOTS of floor staff, seemingly busy but just flapping about<br/>3) Seated, ordered a coffee<br/>4) Table next to me walked in later than me, but coffee order came<br/>5) Grabbed server and asked re coffee. Answer: "But you didn't order coffee! Oh.. whoops! Sorry - I've been busy!"<br/>6) 15 mins later a cold coffee arrives<br/>7) Waiter, again "We've been really busy"<br/>8) Me: "Can I order breakfast" - Waiter: "You'll have to wait about 45 mins"<br/>9) Out I walk<br/><br/>If you are going to be busy for b/fast every Saturday then put on enough staff.<br/><br/>Simply unacceptable.
Pickled Saltire
Dropped in for coffee and cake on a quiet Sunday afternoon. Asked to sit at an empty table by the window, but told it was for 4 people so would have sit elsewhere. Then one minute later another couple came in and were seated at the same table we had just been refused. After that it didn't really matter what the place was like. <br/>First impressions...

Anonymous. Went for late breakfast. Waited over 20mins to be acknowledged and have table cleared from previous customers. Waitress very unhelpful and surly. When I asked for menus and water she proceeded to take away and return the dirty glasses that had previously been on the table (lipstick and all). Didn't apologise for mistake, glared when I told her those glasses had not been ours and were dirty. Luckily was served by a different person for the rest of the meal.

Getting it right. Vans has been around for a while but never fails to get it right. We recieved attentive service (but not too pestering). The wine list is great, and not too exy. We had the sticky chicken ribs (special), procuitto & goats cheese fig (special) for entree, which really hit the spot. There were four of us dining and we all loved our meals, which were the seafood laksa, yellow seafood curry (special), lamb with hommous and one of the salads. We didn't have to wait too long, everything arrived promptly. Everything was good quality. It worked out to $75 a head including wine, but we didn't have coffee or dessert. We will be back :)

Had pull pork sandwich, when I opened the top I and my friends were shocked with the old salad, soaky and didn't look appetitsing at all. Also they were more of salad than the boring pull pork in there. Not only that, my friend had a spiced squid (deep fry) $23!!!! The size was small like entree size (but the price is so over the top!!!). We have been to all kind of restaurants, bistros and cafes but we never felt ripped off or bad like at Vans cafe before ever!! Before I go, I would like to mention the menu I saw..Penang Laksa $44!! And Mee goreng $33!!! Are you serious??

Martini for breakfast, don't mind if I do!. Anywhere I can have a martini for breakfast is a winner in my book! Prompt and friendly service despite the place being packed put on a Sunday morning, delicious coffee amd spectacular food! Definitely a new favourite, I must return for lunch and dinner!

Service has taken a dive. I go to Vans about once every 3 months, but went twice in the space of two weeks recently. The first time the service was friendly, but ... woeful. Thought I would give them the benefit of the doubt the second time and just as bad! Starters and mains served at same time, mains forgotten, drinks wrong, food for other tables bought to us by mistake... unbelievable. I had to order my glass of wine four times before I saw it. <br/>There were some apologies both times and someone told us it was because they had a "new system." Guys: it doesn't work.<br/>Last visit for a while I think. If you pay these sorts of prices, the service should be excellent. Sorry.
