Review Madcowes Cafe - Cowes

Mitsuhiro Kato
This cafe seems to be temporarily closed due to construction. A cafe cart was in front of the store. I got a cappuccino for takeaway, and the taste was so so...

Even though I practically have lived here every summer for over 20 years, we stumbled across this place for the first time a few days ago and we’ve been coming back every morning since just for the coffee which is best on the island. This morning we went for breakfast and it was absolutely delicious. The staff are very nice, kind & courteous.

Friendly and fun vibe. We ordered iced coffees, but received iced chocolates. I really enjoyed my fish burger, however the chicken sandwich my husband ordered needed to be seasoned. The plates were cleared whilst we were still picking at the chips.
Charlene Wilkinson
Great service, generous portions and delicious food! We also had a Chai latte with almond milk and a Mocha that were delectable. Would stop over again.
Jeremiah Ganicoche
Slightly overpriced and the food was passable. For what's in the picture and two lattes they wanted us to fork over $39. The view went some way to making up for it though.

Pawsome pet friendly cafe w a great view of the ocean. Fast & very friendly table service. Even my dog's were offered a treat each time we visited. Fresh water bowl available for all dog's. A calm & relaxing atmosphere. 🐾🌿🥑☕🥧🥞🥂🍳🥝🍓🐾🏝🐾🌊🐾🏖🐾

Love this place for brunch. I had the Salmon with poached egg whilst my husband had the fish and chips (from lunch menu). Both are highly recommended and will be visiting again.

Nice food and pretty spot near the water. Super busy and packed cafe so it must be popular! Stuffed up 2 out of 3 orders but they fixed it straight away. Pancakes were delicious.

🥰🥰 Everything about this place is good, original home style cafe with excellent food and service. Had eggs on toast with bacon and mushrooms. Was impressed by the portion size and the quality of the food. If you are in cowes make sure you check this place out. I LUZZ IT 🥰🥰

Nice place for breakfast - I went here with a few friends and the staff was very nice to set up a large table for all of us. The food was nice and the best part if the milkshake which is quite filling and super creamy. Overall a great place to visit for breakfast /lunch in Cowes. Parking can be a bit of a challenge, try and park in the side roads or the beach parking lot which is further down the road.
Connie
Tried the toasted croissant, banana bread, vanilla panna and French toast. The croissant was nice but slightly salty. Unfortunately didn’t enjoy the panna- the granola was soggy and u could tell it wasn’t fresh
Mike Hodgkinson
Great eggs benedict, coffee and kids menu. Quick service.
Julie
Food is ok but too manic during peak season.

Appreciate that Summer is busy season but the young waitress that served us was really surly and put us off. Plus the cafe is too busy and stressful so the next day we went to the newly opened District 31 instead and got great food and friendly service.
Hannah Roberts
Delicious coffee and yummy food - no complaints here! Was staying nearby on the island and chose here for breakfast. The service was swift, coffee delicious and food very generous and well made. Would recommend to anyone in the area!

Upon arriving everything seemed lovely, staff are kind and the cafe is very open with a nice coffee aroma.

Strong mocha tastes standard despite using their own beans, bagel would of had tasted better if it had been deconstructed as nothing about the dish stood out and it was oily to eat. Chia pudding was not great, the chia was too thick and raw. The pumpkin soup saved the day as it was very fragrant and tasty, one of the best soups i have had.

Overall, we could of had a better experience without the loud maintenence, banging and the costly meal.
Pinch Of Bacon
A lovely little find with views of the water. The food was tasty and the battered fish had just the right crispness.

A great spot for brekkie/ brunch right on the Esplanade! Love the trio of mushrooms (comes with chorizo - yum!) and brewed chai latte, which has a touch of spice to it. The display has some yummy options also so make sure you take a peek before you make your choice! While there’s generally a small queue to place your order, it moves fairly quickly and the food is served very quickly as well. Would definitely come back.

Lovely little cafe on Phillip Island. The menu has plenty to offer everyone. Food portions are a good size. I had pancakes that were light and fluffy and a good size. Along with the food old favourite of a chocolate milkshake, it was a pleasant morning. Prices are higher than in Melbourne but that’s to be expected. The quality certainly made it worthwhile. Dietaries are catered for.
The staff are lovely. Decor appealing. Parking is easy. Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Pram and stroller accessible.

Piggy and Panda took a roadtrip to Phillip Island! We woke up the next morning and seeing that this café was rated highly for brunch decided to give it a go.

The café is very bright with a lot of natural light and white walls making it seem very vibrant. The service was solid, order at the front and take a number to your table and the food came out relatively quick.

We had the:
• Madcowes Hash - tasty mushrooms & the croquette was particularly nice
• Eggs Benedict - solid poached eggs on toast, nothing to complain about

Overall good brunch, nice presentation of dishes, nothing to write home about nor complain about

Piggy rating: 🐷🐷🐷
Panda rating: 🐼🐼🐼 + 1/2

Service very friendly, food comes out quickly. Coffee is nice. Had a delicious vanilla pannacotta, husband had beef burger but the Brie tasted strange. Accommodating of children!
Lilly Hooper
Had a good lunch here. They were accomodating for two vegans. Gr8 xmas atmosphere! Love that for us. At the bottom of the soy coffee though there was some old soy clumps??? Unsure
Mara Stone
Definitely still one of the best & one of my favourite coffee shops! Always my go to. Customer service is impeccable, coffee is always great with delicious sweet treats! Oh not forgetting the location!
Dumba
This is a really popular and busy place. Surprisingly, the food and coffee comes out very promptly. Service is friendly and food is tasty. A good choice for a weekend brunch.
Rachel
Gorgeous view, friendly staff, timely service, delicious food!!! Staying in Phillip island for 3 days and we will definitely come back before we leave!!
Groovy Smoothy
Best place in the area if you're looking for a brunch/lunch. The service and food is great another plus is the presentation is outstanding. The Hash and all the burger options are goodys and worth a try. The only quarrel is that they could have more veg options other than that everything was on point.

Would recommend here if youre in the area!!
ChockLIT
Best brunch going around in the area! If you are craving a very decent eggs benny or the salmon delight that I had it definitely does the job. Only qualm I have is the selection in the menu- maybe some room for some more brunchy options into the future!

ALSO- service was top notch, food came out quick and presentation of even the simplest things was delightful

A nice cafe along the esplanade with beach views. A variety of seating arrangements including a large communal table, regular tables and some tables out the front. The waffles and Trio of Mushrooms were both delicious. Although busy, the service was quite quick. I hope to return next time I’m in Cowes.

Being that I have become extremely accustomed to the efficiency and pace of Melbourne cafés, I was a little less than excited to wait >20minutes for a couple of takeaway coffees. That being said, they were pretty tasty and I was quickly silenced once the frothed milk hit my lips. I didn't stop in for food unfortunately however I would stop in again next time I am on the Island as it did look delicious. The location of the cafe along the Esplanade is perfect as you get to watch the sun move across the ocean. My only issue with my visit was I found it very odd how we were served for takeaway coffees when the waitress asked us to stand around (took our orders close to the doorway) and then took our credit card to the counter and made us wait at the doorway instead of doing all of this at the counter? I know I'm nitpicking here but I found it rather unconventional! I wasn't sure if this was why our coffees took abit long but nevertheless we got them and were satisfied.
Linda
If compared to your refined options in Melbourne, it’s a bit of compromise. But... for a regional option, it’s pretty good. The food is cooked well and generous in size. Food is served promptly and the place is very spacious and kid friendly. It’s located by the water also, so some seats may even come with a view.
Richie
Larni’s sister left when she was 15 so she doesn’t know how to share. Her father just turned 60 but he doesn’t have his seniors card yet so we had to pay full price. Not sure if you get a discount on coffee with a seniors card anyway though so no loss. Great coffee 5 stars

Love the food and it is a bit on the pricey side but we always love everything we ordered. I am also very please that they are willing to cater to people with allergies. My little one has dairy and eggs allergies, the staff was very friendly in suggesting which food to order and actually double checked with other staff all the food and drink ingredients to ensure it’s dairy and egg free. My little one had his first ever hot choco here! We will definitely be back again.
Ashlee
Visited here on my way from Melbourne and I was impressed. The service was fantastic, very quick with food and drinks and the staff were extremely friendly. The food was a bit on the pricey side ($32) but you definitely pay for what you get. The quality was great too, very fresh and good quality products. Will return again on my next trip to Cowes.

After blatting around on go karts at the GP track, we headed here for lunch. I was hoping for an ocean view, but not from that side of the island. The staff her were friendly and the atmosphere ok. He had bacon and egg sandwich with chips and I had 2 poached eggs on toast. The eggs weren’t running and tasted of vinegar but apparently the burger was ok. The side of fries were fries. Coffee was unremarkable, not good or bad.

A cafe by the waterfront. You grab the menu, find a seat and hop up to go order. We got chilli mussels and clams, soup of the day (chicken, lentil and vege), chicken burger, toasted ham and cheese, vanilla and strawberry milkshakes, coffee frappe and fruit salad. Was an $80 lunch.

The seafood was fresh but having to debeard every mussel was a pain. Broth was a tad salty for my liking. Soup was tasty and chunky, chicken soft, loads of thick bread to go with it. Overall a standard cafe meal.

Sarah Fergie
I love this cafe for authentic breakfast options! Coffee is great and their sweet baked goods are a delicious follow up! They don’t take bookings and get super busy in peak times, but wait times have never been bad for me here!
Jess
I rate the food and service of this restaurant highly. I ordered poached eggs haloumi and spinach on toast with a chai latte. I was there on a Saturday in peak hour it came out in a quick manner which was lovely and it was just cooked perfectly was very pleased. It does get very busy though so be prepared for some noise. The only down fall is the prices, the menu attached on this app is not updated and it is pricier than expected. Other than that i had a great meal with at a great location

Going out for a day trip this long weekend? If you're heading out to Phillip Island you should have brunch or lunch at Madcowes cafe in Cowes. The atmosphere was homey and inviting and the food was also quite nice. We ordered the hotcakes with seasonal fruit (fluffy and warm hot cakes) and the tempura calamari with Thai dipping sauce and salad. Overall the tempura was a little more on the heavier side and was not really 'tempura' but more battered nonetheless, the calamari was tasty and the paired Thai sauce was scrumptious! Not bad for a little cafe down at Phillip Island.
Carey
We had breakfast at this cafe, and ordered the eggs Benedict. The meal was lovely, but the Hollandaise sauce was a bit lemony. The cafe was clean, the staff are friendly but with the wooden tables and chairs and lack of soft furnishings it is a very noisy restaurant. Reasonably priced.
Dale Zeinheiger Culpin
Great cafe with excellent customer service. Food hit the spot. Ordered some of the mushroom hash which was pretty good. Although the paprika on top all seemed to be in one corner so one of my bites was a mouthful of spice and the rest without. Overall still good, coffee was good and the vanilla slice was awesome.

Went here one winters Sunday afternoon!
Food looked good on Zomato so I though why not!

Service was okay, some waitresses nicer than other.
We didn't wait long for food at alll, however when we did get out food, chips were almost cold which was a bit annoying. Other than that burger and fish was delicious.

Our coffees were okay, not hot enough for my liking as I like to sip on coffee not drink it like cold milk.

The atmosphere of the cafe was a bit glum. No background music or TVs on in the background. I'm guessing it's more exciting here in summer

Over all I'm rating

Food - 5.5
Coffee - 3.5
Service - 5
Atmosphere - 3.5
Cleanliness - 3
Choc Pudding
Had only a muffin and hot chocolate here and pretty happy with the quality. Muffin was just right. It was raspberry and white chocolate muffin with cream cheese icing which was yum! Hot chocolate was okay. Cafe looks nice too. Other dishes' representation looks great.
Ebs
Great cafe, clean and lovely customer service
The food was tasty and fresh. Would def eat here again when in Phillip Island. The coffe is perfect too! Apart from the above stated the view of the ocean is worth coming for!

We came here at around 9am for breakfast after hearing about it from others, and it did not disappoint! The cafe was busy, and I definitely can tell why!

Ambience:
This is such a cute homey cafe run by a family. The staff were super friendly and service was very fast for a breakfast place.

Food:
Mad Cowes hash - the hash was delicious and crispy on the outside and creamy on the inside, paired with the poached egg and mushrooms.
Deluxe breakfast roll - this was a generous portion with great flavour. The bacon was cooked to perfection, and the sauce was delicious.
Quinoa bowl - the creamy pumpkin sauce paired with the poached eggs and avocado was definitely a hit. So flavourful and filling and healthy!
Eggs emperor - this was a flavourful dish, especially with the accompaniment of the feta cheese. The eggs were cooked to perfection. The seeded eye was also very nice.
Coffee - the coffee is probably the best around the area. It was piping hot, strong and smooth.

We were all very happy and satisfied with our meal. Would definitely recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a nice breakfast or lunch (or brunch)!
Kristinabbey6
Very good quality food and drinks! Staff extremely willing to be a help to customers and a relaxed vibe! Spacious and a decent amount of space between tables so you didn't feel like you were dining with your neighbours
Jess Guscott
The milkshakes were average. Needed more ice cream and flavouring. The burger was good but all of the cheese came broken up outside the burger. Scrambled eggs were standard. Over all it was a nice experience, busy family friendly atmosphere and quick service
Emman Adamis
Good Service. Quality food.
We ordered the breakfast burger and a potato dish with mushrooms.
The coffee was quite good, and the chai latte was also very nice.

Going a bit further out than the regular brunch date...all the way to Cowes! A very easy 1.5 hours drive out of Melbourne in Phillip Island there is this bustling cafe right by the beach, that's where we started our journey for our weekend away. Pulling into this beachside cafe I first noticed how busy it was and the crowd is very much family orientated. It has a very homey and welcoming feel that is a bit different to the cool and sleek vibes of most inner suburb cafes. Matching this is the self serve aspect, collect your own water and menus and go up to the counter to order. No fussed about this but it is a point of difference to the norm.
Jonny K
Great coffee and lovely dishes. Triple mushroom dish was unreal. Good service. My wife enjoyed the chicken burger but was jealous of my feed.
Melbourne Food Journey
Visited early on a Saturday morning, seated outside facing the beach with the sun beaming down on us, it was perfect.
Had the Deluxe Breakfast Roll, which had all the right flavour elements between a perfectly soft brioche bun.
Not to mention they had T2 teas and the Melbourne Breakfast went down a charm!
Josephine
Madcowes hash $17 was excellent. The flavors were on point and it was a great combination of the mushroom, sauce and hash. It was slightly spicy though.

Quinoa bowl $15 - Rich in flavor and delicious, but not to our taste. If you like something w a thick pumpkin sauce and avocado, you'd really enjoy this! Great ambience and friendly staff!
Matthew
Son's comments ... delicious and massive for his breakfast burger .. I had the mushrooms... very delicious.... the kids ham and cheese toasty could have been an adults ...
Milly
Great coffee and vibe ..can easily see why its so popular. We went for coffee and had muffins but could see other patrons yummy breakfast dishes...our coffee was delicious and well made and muffins were not too sweet and overall homemade tasty
Steve O
After having had breakfast and lunch here a few times I can honestly say that you won't be disappointed. Their mad American burger is simply awesome, and the deluxe breakfast burger was delicious. Great coffee too. Thanks guys.

Arrived on a wet morning to a full house full of smiles on an Easter Friday in preparation for a hearty dose of breakfast meal here.

All orders were made at their bar counter and number stand given to be brought for self seating. The food menu variety is good and I would have wanted to try them all.

Service staff were polite and efficient. The coffee and all our food were served within 10-15 minutes.

Food though not cheap, was well presented and standard portioning. Overall decent standard cafe items ordered on this occasion.

🌟🌟🌟✨Deluxe Breakfast Roll
🌟🌟🌟✨Hotcakes
🌟🌟🌟✨Eggs Benedict
🌟🌟🌟✨Long Black
🌟🌟🌟✨Mixed Berry Smoothie

Crazy queues on Easter weekend, but service was prompt and friendly. Coffee wasn't bad either.

We had an Elmo cupcake, a Smarties cookie, iced chocolate, flat white and a caffe latte.
Tussuck
Only popped in for a coffee and boy did I regret it. Watered down and weak is the only way to describe their coffee. They should be ashamed of pouring out this muck!

This place is one of Cowes' most popular in the cafe scene. We came in at about 11 and we had to wait in line -albeit not long. It has a very welcoming and charming atmosphere and there are loads of options on the menu to suit vegan and vegetarian diets. The staff are also very lovely and accomodating.

I've been here twice and I have to say I was slightly disappointed the second time around. My plate was slightly under seasoned and had a bit too much vinegar. That seemed to be the trend in all 3 of our dishes. The dessert was great though, the panna cotta was loaded with fresh fruit and berries and was a great way to start off the day.
The Dear Luncher
The Dear Luncher is on tour with Mrs Luncher and the Little Lunchers. This magnificently located cafe satisfied the caffeine deficiency with applomb. Excellent spot, will be back for food.
Rachael Gibson
Good food, however lacked some flavour and size. The Hospitality staff were average. Nice place with great appearance and lots of space by the water.
KM
Brekkie here was fantastic and worth every cent! The coffee is grand and apple carrot and celery juice is refreshing, they got the combination perfect👌. If your really hungry or hung over I recommend the the ultimate brekkie roll..yum. Overall this place is a winner and not to be missed whilst holidaying on the island.
Becky Pratt
We had breakfast here on the weekend (7/1/2017). I ordered the 3 mushroom on soy and linseed with chorizo etc. Oh!! my!!! goodness!!!!! Soooooo good. And filled me for the majority of the day! Was extremely busy. And bike rides arrived within minutes of us arriving (glad we beat them in to order). Will definitely return.
Mrs Lolly
This was quite a nice little cafe. Super busy which shows how good it is. I had bacon and eggs on sourdough bread. The bacon was delicious it was thick, full of flavour and cooked well. They also make a delicious Chai latte. My fiance had the egg and bacon brioche roll he said it was alright but a bit small. Would be happy to return next time in area
Richard.bolaffi
We found the staff to be friendly & courteous
The food was sensationally delicious and considering that is was bursting at the seams with customers ... the food came promptly.
Highly recommend and will be back again for a 4th time !!

Gluten Free & Tasty, Modern Menu.

This cafe is one that you would expect to find in the city, not in the country in Cowes but it's a very welcome addition in my books. The food is fresh, modern and tasty enough. We ordered items from the breakfast menu and all came out very fast and with good portion sizes. It's quality food that is fresh and tasty.

They are very busy so try to get in early if you want a table outside and ocean views. NB. they don't offer table service so you order at the counter.
Judene Messi
We drove to this place on a spontaneous road trip to Phillip island. This place was highly recommended on Zomato. TBH, nothing special about the food or coffee. The poached eggs were quite average, sour dough bread was quite hard and coffee was abit too bitter without any aroma. Service was not the best either. However, they do have a wide variety of choices on their menu so if you're ever around the area, this place isn't bad to stop by for a quick bite.
Mohamed
Lovely atmosphere great breakfast menu and option. Staff are friendly and coffee was nice as well. The food is a bit pricey compared to the surrounding restaurants albeit the quality of the food was better.
Ethan M
Went for brekkie, just average food with garnishing. Slightly pricey too, $10 for two plain eggs on toasted bread. Service was quite good, and the Chai Latte was even better!
Morris
Nice all round, with communal table and outdoor seating. Newspapers and magazines to toil away the time in this busy cafe. The trio of mushroom was very nice and contained Enoki mushrooms, could have done with a bigger serve of mushrooms( even button) as it was the main ingredient. The Mad American burger with jack cheese and mustard gave it an authentic flavor. The thick delightful with a hint of pale pink in the middle moist patty was spot on.
Thebeardedone
Oh. OH. So this is where the best breakfast in cowes has been hiding. Coffee is perfect. Deluxe egg and bacon roll is brilliant. Love the sauce. Great, fast service. Will be back again and again.
Lindsay
We had Sunday lunch at MadCowes Cafe. It's very casual - pick up a menu and find a table - order at the counter. It actually works quite well. Best to avoid the table close to the kitchen. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Our meals were delivered promptly. The three mushroom breakfast dish was wonderful - we added grilled tomatoes. The chicken burger was highly rated but we thought it was a little dry - it was improved by adding the whipped feta cheese from the mushroom dish. The flat white coffees were very good. It's an interesting cafe with great views of the water.
Zoe Chou
Chips are really crispy and different from other restaurants
Fish is also in a good flavor
Smoothies are healthy and seems really popular
Squads is plain
Salad is yummy
The sauce for fish needs to be more creamy
Jimmy Tom
Excellent choice for breakfast. There is a wide selection, food is beautifully prepared and staff are efficient and friendly. Highly recommended
Angela
Delicious food and great service! Have been here before, months ago and really enjoyed it and My partner and I had breakfast there this morning. I had eggs emperor and it was delicious and full of flavour. Will definitely be back and recommend to friends and family!!!
Preetraj Sethi
Amazing cafe love coming here with my partner every time we visit Phillip island. The food is amazing here and the service is good and one of the waiters has a totally rad BEARD!!!!!!!
FoodingAroundMelbourne
Bright cafe overlooking the ocean. Good range of food and an even better range of T2 teas . Staff were friendly and efficient. My only issue is I personally don't like my order not being taken at my table.
MF
The coffee here quite good, the food were so-so and the dessert were too sweet. Ordered the sliders, chicken burger, fish n chips, calamari n salad, etc. it was ok but none of it was special.
Service was okay, overall a nice cafe to hang out to have some coffee/drinks, but dont order the food.
TheyCallHimX
So many great things to choose from on the menu! Place was a little busy but staff made us feel welcome.

Had the pancakes and will get the pancakes again when I return! Oh and the vanilla slice!

Best part is the beach is just a stone throw away.
The Burger Man
The slides are absolutely amazing, could not recommend enough!!! The hotcakes are to die for as well, that chai cinnamon butter mmmmmmmmmmmmm
H.L
Beef burger on lunch menu was absolutely awesome! Wait staff were friendly. It's reasonably priced in a tourism region. coffee's nicer when it's quiet.
Toodles
My first time in Cowes and definitely impressed. Mad Cowes came highly recommended, and it was very nice. Can't get to enthused about breakfast cafes anymore. Really no one could stuff up bacon and eggs.

Toodles
Danny Booby
Saturday morning in late May and this place is pumping ! Busy with cyclist and locals, even though they are very busy the service is excellent and food sensational, there are plenty of tables and food and drinks comes out quick, highly recommended to anyone
Patty
We were dying for a good coffee and were pointed to this cafe by a few locals. I had the pancakes and my husband had the eggs benedict. As for the taste, there was nothing to write home about. We were seated at the back corner so there was no water view and it's more an order at the counter and sit arrangement so not much personal service there. At least the coffee was to temperature so all in all an average experience.
Barley And Hops
Had a nice enough lunch here today. I had the chicken burger which was good with excellent fries and decent milkshake. Also tried the breakfast sliders which were very good and the berry smoothie was delicious. Service was fine and the atmosphere is the same, fine. Both could be improved but no real complaints. Nice view from the window seats. Good choice in Cowes.
Too Hungry
Loved the name of the cafe, loved the location, loved the coffee and loved the "mad cowes hash" ... Overall loved the place 😄 even at early morning hours there was a long queue of customers but thankfully the order was delivered pretty quickly 😄😄
Rishabh Shukla
What a perfect place to start your day!

I found nothing wrong with the place. Although, it had a consistent long queue, the order was delivered quite fast!

Why to go here?
Ocean view, warm hospitality, not just delicious but beautiful food, excellent service, good coffee...

After finishing our breakfast, we had a small walk at the central pier and the lover's walk...with a warm coffee on a cold morning...it made my day! :)
Maphilldas
Absolutely love the white chocolate and raspberry muffins and cake. Both consistently excellent. Yum! Great toasties and coffee. A local staple at ever PI Visit
Julie Situ
Absolutely amazing food, we had the arancini, burger, fish & chips and breakfast sliders. We were seated outside in the sunshine. Nice quiet little corner as its at the end of the strip.

Little gripe about the juice - it was good but a little small for the price.

All very happy chaps & lovely service!
Nina Stepan
Came here for coffee and kids ended up getting pancakes and French toast. We were impressed with everything, it was clean, smart, and friendly staff. We will be coming back. Thanks :)
Snoopy
Came here during easter break, busy little cafe at the corner, not very impressed with the overall cleanliness, food mess on the floor, asked staff to clean table before seated, the waitress just wipe it off to the floor.

Having say that, food were quite good. Tried the southern fried chicken with salad, would love to have more sauce, the bbq sauce very well balanced with sunflower seed and sesame seed. The fried tender chicken was not very oily, very crunchy and moist.

The soup of the day was ham hock, peas and lentils, with toast, generous portion served with 4 breads, very soft and fresh toast, very well match with the soup.
Itsflashyj
Ate with wifey and our 19 month old. They happily accommodated us. I ordered the breakfast sliders - they were amazing - Consisted of brioche bun, hash brown and egg. Presented to perfection. Also only took 10 minutes to come out and they were busy. Wifey ordered scrambled eggs on toast, side of bacon and avo. The eggs were light and fluffy - delish! Everything else was as expected. Coffee was ok - only thing I could fault. This place was mad busy the food was so good it left us dizzy. Thanks guys well be back in a jiffy!
Wendy Maslin
Amazing Breakfast 👍🏻👍
Milena Milaa Tokanovic
I ordered the Beans Cassoulet, it was very bland. I had to add lots of salt and pepper. It says on the menu bacon. I did not see or taste any bacon. The eggs were over cooked. I paid $3.80 for mashed avo, the avocado was not mashed it was literally enough to spread on one slice of toast. Overall it was eatable just very average. Not worth the wait nor the money. Friends had egg Benedict also said it was very average. Another friend had avocado smash and wasn't told you do not get egg with it, leaving the meal to be avocado on toast paying $18. There are a lot better places in cowes then mad Cowes.
Jane Hearn
Ordered scrambled egg on toast w an additional bacon and spinach. Taste ordinary. Partner order a breakfast sliders, which had bacon, hash brown, fried eggs and tomato. I thought the breakfast sliders taste better. Also order latte and ice Long black - which was also ok. Staff were helpful too!
The Barrister Snob
Service was friendly and speedy. Coffee was great. The mad vowed hash was spectacular. Massive size croquette. The kids eggs and bacon was a big serve. Only downside was the coconut and chia pudding serving size was a little on the small side. Highly recommend!
Michael C
Came here for Sunday lunch after to-ing and fro-ing where to eat. Had the Southern Fried Chicken which was enjoyable though a rather small serve which caused me to leave the place still feeling a little hungry. Drink and tea selection was good, and the service was fast. Ordered a side of fries which were under seasoned. I'd be interested to try the large breakfast menu next time.
Katelyn Brooke Unwin
Had a lovely Arancini dish with a rocket salad. Tasty dressing. However, I found much of the sauces in the bottom of the dish and didn't find it until I'd almost finished. Overall a good experience.
Troy Mortleman
Really popular cafe across the road from Cowes beach. Absolutely packed on a Sunday morning but the staff says it was a quieter morning. Some different items on the menu which was refreshing to see but I went for the staple poached eggs, bacon and mushrooms. Decent portion sizing so definitely didn't want for more. Hotcakes were plump and of a good size and the avocado smash was creamy and plentiful. Had to wait a little while for meals but overly long considering the amount of people. Would return...
Allen Tong
Ordering procedure is a bit different where patrons have to place their orders at the counter. It was really crowded on a Sunday morning and we were absolutely lucky to get a seat for 5. Portion of food are on the small size of things which are not reflected by their pricing. Overall a pretty good cafe considering it being outside of Melbourne.
Peter Torelli
Great food great service. Best place for a good breakfast on the island. Been here many times and they never disappoint. The coffee is one of the best on the island
Mekcaff
Best coffee on the island. Because of this, you will need to be prepared to wait. Always ask for the take away mug. .......................

We frequent this cafe every year in the summer holidays, being originally from Melbourne. Probably the best cafe in this area and consequently also the busiest.
Coffee and breakfasts always good.
Today we went for lunch and had the chicken burger and my husband the beef burger, iced coffee and fresh juice.
If I had to be really picky, I would say the avocado in my chicken burger probably was not fresh.
In the past I have had the turkey sandwich and loved it.
Service is always good. Well staffed to keep up for this time of year and the staff are very attentive and accomodating, especially today when we changed our mind from take away to eat-in, all handled well with a smile.
The cafe itself is neat and with ocean views. The baked goods in the cabinet and basket of pastries look yummy and fresh. The menu always good with a lot of tempting options for food and drinks.
Despite a promising menu, food was ultimately overpriced and disappointing. On our second visit in as many days, couldn't handle a very basic variation to a standard menu order (adding scrambled eggs to a smashed avocado menu item). Got a long winded excuse about it being too busy. Not sure what happens if you order the scrambled eggs on the menu on that case!

On that note, food was lukewarm and served within 5 minutes so doubt they're making anything to order. Thought that was just the breakfast sliders on the first visit, but wasn't a one off.

You definitely know you're not getting Melbourne quality cafe service here.

Go here. OnLe of the best cafe breakfasts I've had for a while. Had the MadCowes Hash, wonderful. Friends had the Eggs Emperor and Avo Smash, not disappointed. Coffee and service great too.

Stumbled upon Mad Cowes whilst looking for breakfast. We were pleased with the good serving of thick fluffy hotcakes (comes with maple syrup and option of yogurt/ice cream) and bircher muesli. Coupled with a glass each of latte & cappucinno and we were quite pleasently filled. Decent coffee, friendly and prompt service by the staff and a pleasant view of the bay. Mid range pricey side but would return when next in town.

Just had a coffee
Was quite busy with smiling customers
Coffee was made very well. It could be perfect if they invested in a superior coffee bean

Food was really good and the coffee was as good as Melbourne's best. Try the eggs benedict or avocado smash! Great views of the bay if weather permits.

Came here for a big breakfast while on holiday, until we realised how unreasonably high the prices were... $17.50 for an eggs benedict which is under $15 anywhere else. Extra avocado was $3.80. And even coffee was over priced. Decor was also a let down compared to what they show on their website. Would definitely try other lower rated cafes in the area before returning. Oh, and also don't appreciate birds flying around inside while I'm trying to eat. I would've sat outside if I wanted that.
