I have eaten both in and take away for several years and am always happy with my meal
Consistent, tasty, plenty of food, friendly hosts.
Decor could be improved, perhaps some music would add to the atmosphere. Prices are very reasonable and they have BYO
Highly recommended
A group of 10 of us had dinner here on a Saturday night. The service was prompt, the food was very tasty and quite traditional, but maybe not spicy enough for our chilli loving friends. Would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!
A nice resturaunt in the main town centre of Cowes. Very reasonably priced and the staff are very friendly. Food was delicious especially the butter chicken & vegetarian kofta.
Was in Phi Phi Island for a couple of days and discovered this mind blowing butter chicken with the most phenomenal creamy sauce it's almost worth road tripping out there just for a delicious dinner. Great service nice atmosphere and the best thing I ate the entire weekend
Best sweet butter chicken. Do yourself a favour an order it. Food can take a while during peak season but that's common for the island around New Years.
Traveling to Philip Island with my friends
Chose this restaurant to have dinner
Delicious and cosy
Service is friendly and food is unique
Really enjoy eat there
The sauce served with the Indian bread as an entree is special and unforgettable
I am extremely glad that we went to this place for dining... Having been to various indian restaurants in search of "that authentic taste" , i can say for sure that the chefs in Cowes Tandoori know what they are doing 😄😄 we were highly impressed with quality of food and hospitality of the staff. Time to go into the specifics now:
Positives:
1) Great taste ( we tried samosas, nawab kofta and butter naan)
2) Friendly staff
3) Good price for quality food
4) Accessible location (in heart of Cowes)
5) Variety of "indian drinks" available (yes, we can get kingfisher or Haywards 5000 here)
Negatives:
1) Dal makhani could be made richer with less salt (thats it no more negatives)
This is definitely a not-to-miss place in Phillip Island. Situated in the centre of Cowes, it is not just easily accessible, but also offers you a delicious dishes. I had ordered Samosas, as the starter, followed by Kofta Nawabi and Dal Makhni with butter Naan.
Samosas were the best I have had in Australia till date! The stuffing was a perfect blend of potato and peas, with no trace of oil in the crust!
Kofta Nawabi was one of the best koftas I have had, accompanied by super soft Naans!
Dal Makhani was a bit of an average, with a little excess salt in it. It somehow missed the 'makhani' factor in it.
Overall an excellent place to taste Indian food, with a sweet ambience and a good hospitality. Highly recommended!
This restaurant has so much potential. I have been a regular at Cowes Tandoori for many many years. The food is excellent and the menu robust. My go to dishes are the seekh kebab / tandoori platter, lamb vindaloo, chicken ticka Massala and rogan josh - all are excellent every single time. Yes the venue lacks atmosphere and yes the service is not awesome (although has improved immense from previous years) - but it is a great Indian restaurant in a seasonal country town. Look past the venue, the atmosphere and sometimes the service and enjoy delicious curries with great company!!
Worst indian food iv ever had.
I can only go on my experience… it was clean with white walls ..
The service was quick n efficient , we only ordered one meal with rice n two Nann bread
There was enough for two ppl
Nice big portions , when it arrived I didn’t think they’d be enough but what an illusion
Ordered the vinderloo … very tasty 👅 thank god didn’t ask for hot version
Thank you 🙏
The food at this place is authentic and really delicious. The restaurant is spotlessly clean.
My partner and I shared a traditional Indian curry and chicken tikka with delicately flaoured white rice. The portion sizes were not huge but certainly ample.
We went there on a Thursday lunchtime. Sadly for the owner, with, and since Covid, the daytime bookings are still low, but he makes up for that at the weekend and offers a popular buffet lunch on Sundays.
The restaurant is set in a row of shops which are not particularly inspiring, and alongside a carwash and kebab shop which commandeer a large area of parking, so you need to park off to the right.
Don't be put off by any of this!
I made a phone order of two items to take away, onion bhaji and eggplant masala. the order was ready when I arrived.
They were both good. No complaints.
