Review The Bear House - Cranbourne

HY Wang
Our first time to Bear House. Spoken to the Manager and got to know some history of this restaurant and the motel beside. As they serve Malaysian food, we ordered the usual CKT (fried quay teow), curry noodle and nasi goreng (fried rice). Taste were good and portion is generous. The black bean sauce beef was good too.

The food is as normal as other restaurant but the restaurant itself is spacious and stylish. It looks like a resort hotel. I prefer to go there the second time!

Amazing customer service and generous portions sizes! Great environment and the staff are amazing, had a very welcoming atmosphere!! Will definitely be coming back for more dinners to come, the fried rice, salt and pepper calamari and prawn dumplings were mouth watering! And the espresso martini! Don’t get me started with how good that was. 5/5 Would definitely recommend to your friends and family.

Food and customer service was really good they even gave us a call before arrival to organize high chair for baby. Tasty food with good quantity. Wish there was some milkshake in the drink menu.

Absolutely beautiful food could not get enough service is excellent and comfortable atmosphere
Mensur Cehic
Absolutely fantastic! The most polite and respectful staff. Food is amazing and served in very decent portions - to put it mildly. Love going there and enjoy a calming atmosphere.

Decent service, weird atmosphere but food was very poor. Ordered duck and the cut of meat was so bad I couldn't eat it. Buddha delight also disappointing, no flavour, odd texture. Fried rice was average but I could at least eat this one. Would not go back or recommend.

The food was very big portions and very tasty but it was busy and we had to wait a long time for our food to come out as they do a lot of take out and I don't think they employ a lot of kitchen staff. While not the fault of the staff on duty who all tried their hardest to make my night pleasant. But if I am going in to a restaurant, I do not want to wait that long for my food. You need more staff cooking.
Thats My Food
I was coming back from Phillip Island and decided to give this place a go. It is a huge restaurant with lots of seating space and a very nice interior. But those are pretty much the only things that I liked. The food quality was not good at all. On zomato the cuisine listed is Modern Australian/ Australian which is not true. The cuisine is Asian/Chinese.
I ordered Dumplings, Hokkien Noodles and stir-fried Beef with rice. Dumplings were Oily and Bland. The outer coating of the dumplings was thick and did not taste good.
The Noodles were Alright. They were cooked nicely. But there was too much sauce in the noodles which was overpowering all the other flavors. It was the same case with stir-fried beef, too much sauce. The beef was not good as well. It was very very chewy and was difficult to eat.

I would not recommend going here for a meal.

I recently ordered take away from here and was pleasantly surprised. The food was amazing and the ladies there are just lovely. I will definitely be back again for more.

Was surprised to return after 20 years and yes no more Bear Steakhouse, No big pieces of Steak you can enjoy, was a big let down. They should really change the name to Bear Asian House, because that's basically it. Price was great and service was fine. I just wished it was real steak like before. Oh well its back to the pub steaks which are huge. Will go here again but not to enjoy any steak.

Food :- 6
Service :- 7
Atmosphere :- 8

My original rating was during the time wonderful chef Crystal Dumais ran the place. I have nothing to say about the present management - although Big Belly Full seems to have said it all
Big Belly Full
The Bear House used to be a steakhouse however, it recently changed owners and became an Asian restuarant. I came here with a couple of family members on a Saturday night around 7:30pm. When we arrived at the restaurant and was waiting to be seated, I noticed there were a few groups of people celebrating their birthdays. The lady that came to talk to us asked us if we had made a booking and we said “no”. Even though the restuarant was half empty, the lady spoked to us in an angry tone when she learnt we didn’t make a booking. After mumbling something under her breath, she led us to our table and stomped off to the bar area.

After being seated, I noticed that there weren’t any chopsticks or rice bowls available on the table. There were only dinner plates and forks and spoons, which is definitely not a good sign if you’re dining in an Asian restaurant. I had a feeling the food was going to be either terrible or mediocre and I was right.

We ordered typical Asian restaurants staples such as honey chicken and Mongolian beef, and a Szechuan style dry fried French beans dish. Although the serving of the honey chicken was large, I struggled to find pieces of chicken in the honey chicken and when I did, the pieces of chicken were so small and dry, I gave up entirely. The Mongolian beef was mediocre, the dish consisted of 50% beef and 50% vegetables. There is nothing Szechuan about the Szechuan style French beans. Although the portion of the French beans were large, it was incredibly oily and lacked the flavours of Szechuan food.

The service needs to be improved. Whilst we were eating our meal, the table next to us were becoming impatient as they had waited over and hour and fifteen minutes for their meals to arrive. We waited approximately 40 minutes for our food to arrive on our table. As we were paying for our food, the lady that sat us down asked how our meals were, and we said it was “okay”. The lady replied harshly and arrogantly and asked us “is it okay, only?”

Overall, the food was terrible and oily. I would not come here again or recommend this restaurant to anyone. If you’re craving for Asian food, go look somewhere else. I recommend Asiana Asian restaurant, which is not too far from the Bear House.

This had to be one of the absolute worst dining experience....

My friends and I came here for dinner and it initially began with shocking service. The service was bad, had to wave over staff for things like menus. After the initial drink was served, no one offered us a secondary drink or came to the table for an hour. The staff member serving our entrees, couldn't tell us what they were and we waited an hour between our entrees and mains.

Our main meals arrived an hour and a half after we arrived at the restaurant. I ordered a combination seafood stirfry, one friend ordered garlic prawns. The seafood and the prawns were absolutely disgusting.

They tasted frozen and old and was basically inedible. Neither of us could eat much of our main meals. Even the fried rice was bland and unappetizing.

A staff member came over and we told him, then we told a senior staff member that we were not happy with the meal and that it tasted disgusting and old and frozen. The staff admitted that the seafood is frozen as they were unable to receive fresh food. Staff said that as it was a busy night for seafood, the timing of cooking must be off, so that the frozen seafood has either not been able to defrost properly or has been sitting out defrosting for too long...........

The staff was very apologetic and offered the food to be for free. As she has offered this, the owner comes to the table and starts arguing with her in Cantonese very obnoxiously. We understand her saying "No!" and "pay $10" and she demanded that we explain to her. The other staff member had the owner leave and go with her to the kitchen, where we could hear the owner yelling. Couldn't believe how unprofessional and rude the owner was. The staff member returned and said not to worry and she will sort it out.

We went to the counter to pay and the owner said something along the lines of "ok, she will pay for main meals, you pay for your drinks and entrees". Upon clarification, she admitted that was forcing her staff to pay for the food.

I had a very heated argument with her, as she then tried to pretend she wasn't "forcing" her staff to pay, even as she admitted again that her staff would be paying, tried to say that she tasted the food and it wasn't bad (genuinely makes me wonder if she has tasted good Chinese food) and wouldn't even address that fact she was serving sub-standard frozen food. To be honest, I couldn't believe she openly admitted several times to forcing her staff member to pay for the food.

So, do not eat at this restaurant.

Besides the very dangerous health implications, it was very unpleasant food and when your spending over $20 for a meal, it had better be better the frozen rubbish seafood you buy at Coles.

A horrible a money hungry owner, who is rude and unprofessional towards customers. She is also committing unethical and illegal actions towards her staff by forcing them to pay.....

.....At this point, who gives a shit about the bad service...

I really wasn't sure about what to expect when coming here, but on a Sunday night at 6.30pm the place was buzzing.

The structure of the restaurant is just gorgeous. The lighting and all the wooden beams. Very rustic

While the staff were clearly very busy, they couldn't have been nicer and the food was amazing. The Shredded Duck Fried Rice and Mongolian Beef a major highlight. Great prices and really fantastic value. I don't mind paying for quality and I honestly think the prices were insanely good. Thank you Bear House we will be back!

A couple of years ago we visited this place and it was hands down one of the best meals I’ve ever had - tonight’s meal will go down as one of the worst.

The waiters do not even know their own menu, having to ask other members of staff what dishes actually are. The food itself is far too salty and watery - I felt like I was eating in a shopping center food court.

Do not waste your time with this place, you’d be better off going to coles and making dinner yourself.

Didn’t know they did deliveries so when I saw they did we decided to give them a try and was very happy the food is a little over priced but you don’t mind paying a bit more for food that’s tasty. It was a great treat
Andrew George
This is my worst experience with food ever. Received the delivery on time and everything was looking good, however the food tasted weird and extremely salty, especially the duck. Next morning my wife and I were sick and I contacted the restaurant to ask for a refund as we had no received an acceptable meal. They ended up telling us that they needed to send our complaint off to their insurance and we would need to prove that it was their food. We had not eaten anything else since dinner the night before. And told us that this review would result int hem suing us. Very abusive, poor customer service and dodgy food. Recommend to avoid at all costs.
Much Ado About Food
The Bear House Restaurant is my husband and my go-to place for Chinese food. We discovered it when we first moved to the area and were looking for something to have for dinner one lazy Monday. We actually went there on the first Monday they opened - they had previously only been open Tuesdays to Sundays, and it was very quiet because no one knew they had started to open on Mondays!

It would surprise you, if you weren't aware, that this is an Asian cuisine restaurant. I believe it previously used to be a steak house (judging by the older reviews) and the decor certainly represents that, in fact, it shouts it! However, the atmosphere kind of works for an Asian restaurant. I don't know why, but it does. It was a very cold winter's night the first time we visited so we sat next to a crackling fireplace, which gave the restaurant a really nice, cosy ambience.

There's a lovely woman who works there, she is very friendly and provides great customer service - she is the embodiment of that slightly eccentric aunt with the jocularity of your favourite dad-joke comedian.

Now, the food here is pretty good. We've had a couple of dishes that missed the mark, but most of what we've tried were a delight on our tongues! Our particular favourites are the sesame prawn toast (it's packed with prawn meat!), garlic spare ribs, butter prawns, sweet and sour pork, and the shredded duck fried rice.

Another dish also worth noting is their laksa - I tried that for the first time recently and it was everything you'd want from a laksa and more! Usually, I find restaurants are quite scarce when it comes to the prawns in a laksa, but we shared this dish between 3 and it was plenty. The broth had the perfect amount of spiciness to it (if you are into mild-medium level of chilli) and the spice to coconut ratio was perfect. Great dish for a cold day!

The only (minor) issue that I have is with the pricing - some of the dishes, although scrumptious, have pricetags attached to them that are a little above their worth and quantity. It's not a real problem if you're only popping in for a sporadic treat, which is what we do! Other than that, I'd definitely recommend a visit if you're in the area.

www.thejennichronicles.com

We have been recommended this place by colleague as they said the steak was nice and the atmosphere was great.
My husband and I decided to give it a go for our dinner date only to find out that they changed management and the entire menu.
It is now serving Chinese food. Staff did not speak much English but lucky my husband could speak Chinese so he managed to get a few recommendations to the dishes
We ordered sesame prawn toast, kung pao chicken and black bean beef. To our surprise, the dishes were extremely oily and salty. They taste not much different to those self serve foodcourt chinese places. And to be honest with you, my husband could cook those dishes that we ordered a lot better at home. Not the restaurant standard we were looking for so we left feeling disappointed.

The Bear House Restaurant is now under new management... No longer steak's its now Chinese. Great menu with heaps of variety to choose from. Instant sevice. Entree came out quickly but a little delay on the mains. Portion sizes were generous so we over ordered. Everything was so well cooked. The place itself is quite cosy so adds to the whole experience

Look it's not a bad place!

Only down fall was when we went we had looked at the menu online - which they had actually changed in house but not online yet.
So because of this we had to order things out of our comfort zone...food was okay bit expensive

Atmosphere is really good though! And service :)

Food - 6
Service - 6
Atmosphere - 7

Very disappointed with what to be a memorable evening. The temperature was that of an ice box. Ordered Sancho bai, not cooked. Diced Carrot was raw ended up leaving half of it. Main course Combination seafood stir-fry. Again sliced carrot raw calamari like rubber. However I did get 3 prawns. Above all it was cold. The meals are served on cold plates. By the time it is served at the table it is not very appetising.
When asked was everything ok, said my piece. The reply, ooooooh. New owners 3 weeks ago.

Won't be going back.

Bland food and terrible service, for the price you would expect more , nothing has changed since the last chef was fired and not sure if it's still the same owners lol...pub food at a premium price...

I would have to say that I would like to complement them on the service, but there was none. Waited 15 minutes after getting there and not one staff member came by. Never even got offered water, yet others that came in after us were waited on. In the end we just went to the bar and advised them we were leaving and that the level of service was absolutely atrocious. Recommend that if you want service, try McDonalds. At least they pretend to care.

We came to The bear house restaurant for dinner, ordered Fisherman's basket and chili prawn pasta that both are delicious and massive! The restaurant is nice and warm. All staffs are friendly I can't say anything wrong with this wonderful place!!!!Thanks, we had a great night!

No wonder I will come back again!

We pass by this area on our regular road trips. First time here. Very good start w lemon pepper calamari & potato wedges. Pork ribs was delicious - better than our last ribs at Crown no less! Chili linguine - fresh prawns w just enough heat. Finished off w trio of sorbet. Delish. Wasn't able to take photos as I left my phone charging in the car. *sigh* Will come back for sure.

With an excellent, warm atmosphere and rustic woodcabin decor, The Bear House intially impresses. The staff, while undergroomed, are friendly and helpful.

The menu was sparse, offering a handful of basic dishes, and only a single vegetarian option. It seemed to primarily focus on their extensive range of alcohol.

I ordered a cookies and cream mocktail to start, which is where the first moment of disappointment begins. All ice and overly sweet chocolate syrup, with around half a cup of milk thrown in, it was quite the let down. Nothing cookies or cream about it.

I stuck to water from there, although having to ask for a replacement bottle after discovering numerous "floaties" throughout.
Staff were apologetic, though did not offer anything else.

From there, I ordered a porterhouse steak with vegetables and chips, pepper sauce, served medium rare.

I recieved a thick, albeit smaller steak than was expected, a small handful of chips accompanied by 3-4 green beans and 2-3 carrot slices. Size wise, the plate was lacking. Digging into the steak, it was definitely more medium than rare, though a very nice medium. The pepper sauce was also delicious.
If my husband hadnt had a side order of fries for me to steal, it definitely wouldnt have filled me up.

Overall, the staff were inexperienced, not noticing small cues such as finishing with the bill or drink refill offerings, and undergroomed (unbrushed hair, nonblack sneakers etc) but were very very friendly, helpful with answering questions. Truly commendable. The food was lackluster, though tasty enough for the price offered.

A place to bring a family meal, or a few casual drinks with your more relaxed friends. Though I definitely would pass on this place as a date destination or for those desiring something a little fancier.
I drove 40 minutes after successfully making a booking only to find that the chef had 'closed the kitchen' minutes before our arrival. Given it was Friday night, and also after 8pm we were left with no other options for dinner. What made matters worse is that I wrote to the owner to express my disappointment, politely and didn't even receive a response.

If this is the level of care they have for their potential customers, what type of service can you expect for their dining customers. You decide.

Came here for dinner the other night and was very impressed.

Had been here before about a year ago and they had an acoustic band and the fire going which really set the scene.

On this visit on a Saturday night was fairly quiet with lovely acoustic music in the background from a CD and no fire. Still, the ambience was comfortable. This really does feel like a cabin house where you forget you're dining in Cranbourne and would feel almost perfect if it were raining outside, enjoying a hearty warm meal, indulging in nice wine, acoustic band and the fireplace!

Had the chicken and mushroom risotto (pictured) $23.50 and my friend had the pumpkin spinach fettuccini where they let her swap the Napoletana sauce for the carbonara sauce! Very accommodating.

The standout for me was our waitress (unfortunately did not catch her name) but she was friendly, personable and topped off our night. We even expressed to the manager how good the service was, as we were that impressed! Sometimes it's rare to find young waitresses/waiters that genuinely show an interest in making conversation (and not overdoing it).

Will be back again for sure!

Really nice friendly staff nice atmosphere amazing food couldn't fault the service or food at all it was just highly enjoyable and we both can't wait to return only thing I have to say is it is not a good look when the gentleman serving our meals was standing out the front on the steps where customers walk in smoking.
Out And About
An interesting space; it's almost like a mountain-cabin themed restaurant but most details are actually real - there are real wagon wheels used in Windows, real solid stone walls and a real fire place.
We had 4 tapas dishes, felafel, asparagus, aronchini and tacos. Delicious and filling.
Not fine dining (and clearly not claiming to be) but certainly stretching towards that in some ways.
I've given them extra points for a brilliant and up-to-date music list. Professional staff who were super friendly as well.
Max Dumais
Bear house is something special. The fresh taste says it all, which shouldn't be surprising as even the pasta is made on the premises. Everything presented as cooked at the time - nothing reheated. The desserts are fabulous - the panacotta I had came with alcohol infused berries, amazingly colored white chocolate and a fluff ball of Persian spun sugar (fairy floss for us plebs! They have free wi-fi and live music on the weekends. This truly a class act. Try it out for yourself soon.

Steak night on Tuesday was beautiful. Not a huge meal but good size. Pepper sauce was very tasty.

Good: local, friendly greeting, well presented and mostly attentive waitresses, very fresh salad, generous servings, wine list contains plenty of Aussie wines including some nice local drops with good prices, warm and cosy on a cold night, wagon wheel windows, tender pork ribs.
Not so good: to me there seemed to be some flavor clashes - tender scallops overpowered by chorizo on the rubbery side and chicken with a stuffing that reminded me of fennel and mashed up egg yolks and what they called a blue cheese sauce but was a strong gravy that didn't taste like blue cheese.. And the chicken a tad dry, yet prosciutto not crispy.. My legs/pants got wet walking through the overgrown weedy garden on the way to the front door, and at the end of our meal we fancied a cocktail and a nightcap but couldn't catch the eye of the waitresses for long enough that we gave up.
Conclusion: To me - adequate. To my partner - he wants to go back for the ribs.

Fantastic Experience from start to end. My husband and I grew up in Frankston and I am 25 years old, I have always seen this restaurant and wanted to go. Since moving to the area a year and a half ago we finally got to go to the restaurant.
From the moment my husband and I walked in to the moment we left we had an exceptional experience.
Our drink order came quickly, starter was perfect, the meals were cooked and presented in the best way possible.
The toilets were immaculate and the interior was very warm and cosy. Not to mention to music set the mood of the restaurant very well. Compliments were given to the chef before we left.
They have specials on specific nights and we will definitely be coming back again and again.

Terrible experience. We booked a table for 7:30 PM tonight. Arrived 7:20 PM and was seated at 7:45 PM. We had to stand inside the entrance door for 25 minutes. 20 minutes after being seated, they came to see if we wanted a drink and to place an order.
So, it was just after 8 PM and we were becoming hungry. We then waited for one hour and 10 minutes for our garlic bread to arrive. During this time the party of people at the next table argued with the waitress for waiting one and a half hours for their meal. The people got up and left.

Our meals arrived, the garlic bread, the entree and the main meal, all at once. There was no room on our table for all the food and made eating and organising our plates very difficult.

My wife had the pork spare ribs, which we are literally drowning in the sauce. You could not taste the meat for the sauce. My chicken and avocado risotto was tasteless and very gluggy, worst I have ever experienced.

Will we return? Never, ever.

I think you would get a better culinary experience from McDonald's or perhaps a year 8 Home Economics class.

Very disappointing evening

Stayed in the motel on the wedding night. Rooms dirty....ie dust behind the bed side table......cigarette ash on the lamb table and we don't smoke.....smoke alarm had no battery.....the big breakfast disgraceful....everything thrown on top of each other like a dogs dinner....I hate sausages and egg yolk everything was that mixed in we the beans, bacon and toast I couldn't eat any of it...I love egg white, baked beans, toast and bacon but the favours of the yolks and sausages when though the lot.not even the garden were good

Chicken and Avocado Risotto. Fantastical

Very satisfied. Although this restaurant hasn't had the best reviews , we went there for tea on a Saturday night. Very busy, but the service was great and the food was excellent. Highly recommend the spare ribs and chicken and advocado ricotta. Will definitely go back!!!!!!
Eric_hutchison
Never eat here. Vegetarian spaghetti..how could this have gone so badly wrong. The "sauce" was thin, brown and watery...looked bad and tasted, well bad. No hint of the Mediterranean here. I complained to the nice waitress...she assured me she told the manager..no-one came near me so obviously customer service doesn't matter here. Oh and did I mention it took one hour and forty minutes to start serving our group? Well as a peace offering they put garlic bread on each table. Then they said we had ordered it and tried to charge us !! The worst meal I have ever had in my life...ever.
Eric Hutchison

Horrific meals for all four of us. Cold spaghetti (microwaved), mixed affair was cold...and $75! Wagyu was well...not wagyu! Tough, cold and honestly, a $5 Coles steak. Medium rare scotch was well done in areas. Waited an hour for our meals to arrive. Just too poor to return. Waiter was actually great at taking our feedback and gave us $10 off each steak, agreed with us that the wagyu was shocking. Building was gorgeous but even so, for $200 + not a chance that we would return.
Graham Fisher
Dont eat here. A very disappointing experience. Waited an hour between entrée and our main only to be served a dry and chewy steak. My partners Thai beef salad was inedible due to being smothered in peanut oil.
$80 and an hour and a half of our lives wasted.. we walked away from this restaurant annoyed, hungry and feeling scammed of our money.. don't put yourself though the same experience. .. find another restaurant. . Mc Donalds is a better option.
C.pierce
Worst dinner ever. My partner and I went here last night, it was awful . I suggest not wasting your time , specially when you have to wait 45 minutes for mains. When the place isn't even busy only to be served a dry over cool stake that your paying $40 for and an inedible thi beef salad . Only thing that was ok were the chips . Overall a waste of $85 and and hour and a half of our time.
Amanda Harold
Don't waste your time or money. I will never return to this restaurant after our terrible experience on Saturday night. I had made a booking for 20 people, we waited over an hour and a half for our meals which all came out at different times. They had no idea who had ordered what meal and had to rely on us telling them. Nothing 'fine dining' about this place. One seafood platter was returned (uneaten) as it was dripping in garlic butter and was overcooked. No staff member came an offered an alternative meal or asked why this was sent back to the kitchen. When we refused to pay for the platter (which staff had previously said was ok) the manager told us that the seafood was good and that they were sending the surveillance camera footage and all of the dinner partys number plates to the police because what we were doing was theft! They followed us out of the restaurant, watched as we left and took note of all the number plates. What a joke! Treated like common criminals because we complained about one meal! We also contacted the police who couldn't believe how we were treated. Customer service does not exist at this place, don't waste your time or money.
Kelcy Harold
Had extremely bad service and the food is over priced for what it is, will not return ever.
Rebecca
As some previous people have said DONT WASTE YOUR TIME! We waited 30 minutes for an entree which was cold and chewy we then waited another 40 minutes for our mains my husbands Parma looked like it had been sitting around for a few hours and then chucked in a microwave and it tasted how it looked cold and flabby. My duck risotto was dull and the duck which I thought would be through the whole meal was just in chunks on the top and it was chewy although at least it was hot. Don't be fooled by the charm of the building that's about as good as it gets.

Disappointed. This was our 5th visit over a period of time saturday 10 may 2014. Waited 45mins for mains by this time had drunk the glass of wine, the excuse was they had 80 guests [] well it is a resturant, The meals not that great and will not come back..... Chris

I did not want to call the restaurant as I felt that this complaint would not be passed on. I was so disappointed with the disgusting service that my partner and I received on Saturday night. I called to make a booking for 730, and when we arrived the gentleman at the door had no record of the booking, and so we were shoved in a dark corner near the kitchen door. We both ordered the wagyu steak, and for $40 I expected so much more. The steak was burnt, paper thin, and my severely blunt steak knife struggled to cut through the meat. I felt ripped off when I handed over the $100 for bill, and when the girl asked me how my meal was, she could not have cared less that I didn't eat half of it nor that I said the meal was horrible. I was not surprised to see the place dead on a Saturday night. We will not be back.

Wont be back!!. Very poor service, had to wait forever to get a drink, only to have to go to the bar yourself to get them. Wont be back!!
Truthbetold
The atmosphere is lovely. The serenity is that of a warm Canadian log cabin...but thats where it stops!
Terrible reception, made our Valentines day booking a week and a half ahead to ensure our table and surely it worked because daisy chen responded saying booking confirmed. But like the other reviews stated, when we arrived they hadnt placed our booking at all and the tattooed lady turned us down and told us to leave, meanwhile the couple behinds booking had also been misplaced but they were offered a table?! I guess standing in the front of the line didnt matter... The couple were equally as confused. But then a lovely gentleman came to the rescue and offered us a table. It took asking three times to get a coke, our entree came out before our starter, our mains took in excess of 45mins and it was $21.9 for a tasting plate with five miniscule items on it. I wouldnt mind so much if the flavour lived upto standards... Poor effort and wont be back. The old team was lovely.

Valentines day 2014. My hubby and i had pegged this place for our next night out and it was lovely. great atmosphere and rustic surrounds....staff very hip and friendly but frantic on this theme night. they do meat soooo well here its their specialty...a little cold on arrival for my taste as they were almost fully booked...acoustic gitarist well chosen very nice. also appreciated in house music flavour too. we had the scallops entre and the calamari...and the veal schol and lamb salt brush main. too many times i raved to hubby about my meal i tried his and wanted it too!!!

Luckily we booked a table two weeks before Valentines Day for the Bearhouse Restaurant as it was completely full, and I don't see why it shouldn't be as this place is AMAZING! Greeted by friendly staff at the door, our table was decorated to suit the Valentines theme of the restaurant and the presentation of the whole venue was beautiful! The entrees and mains came out a little bit longer then expected but we were there to enjoy ourselves, we were quite happy listening to the solo acoustic. I do have to say the food was absolutely incredible as was the service.
Well done to the all the staff, we both had a fantastic time, this is our new favorite place!

What and awesome night at the bear house restaurant !! On arrival we were greeted at the door and as we got seated .my partner was givin a red rose.on the table they had rose petals and a candle the live music was beautiful and the food was to die they had this awesome arrangement of red balloons and candles and the atmosphere was so romantic someone actually got up and proposed !!! It was topped off with a yes congrats !!! Will definitely go back.

Its true what you read. We should have listened to the reviews. We arrived at the restaurant on Valentines Day to hear "they didn't have our booking" nor the people before us! Exactly what people had written on here - do not email -apparently "Daisy" who responds is in China so although she confirms and writes back to you she doesnt actually make the bookings??? So after a short argument we were finally seated. The meals were ok but service was extremely poor - comments we heard around us were "no we can't add chicken to the pasta we can't make any changes to the menu" to "sorry your meals are late I am just the maitre de it's not my job" the poor couple waited I think about an hour at least for their mainmeal! Another couples food was cold... when we got up to pay for our meals apparantly another dessert was delivered to our table and they moaned we had ordered 3 x desserts?? There was only the 2 of us! So 2.5 hours to get served and finish our meal (which in the end chocolate mousse it was because we thought it would be the quickest!) we found there were other people's drinks on our tab! And my husband said even the eftpos machine was slow! So don't book this place go somewhere else - and to all the lovely couples around us thank you for making the night bearable!

Most amazing food, great atmosphere. Such a nice place to have dinner! Couldn't say a bad word about this place! Amazing, it's a must try for everyone!

BEAR HOUSE BRULEE!!. We had our staff Christmas party here for 50 people and it was fabulous!!
Excellent variety of options across the 3 courses that we as a company chose. Julius the chef and his kitchen cooked it beautifully and was timed to perfection.
The pork belly and red cabbage received rave reviews (entrée), the gnocci and chicken satay the same.
Mains - turkey, fish and steak no complaints as well.
Dessert, crème brulee to die for, chocolate croissant pudding and traditional plumb pudding the same.
The hostess for the night Renee was absolutely superb as well as her staff.
The bar staff the same, nothing was too much trouble.
THANK YOU AGAIN DAISY AND ALL YOUR STAFF.
Ps the band was excellent also.

Excellent & Delicious!!!. This place was a GEM to find! My husband & I stumbled upon it by luck.. and so grateful we did! And I was glad to see it wasn't too full because we had our little baby with us.. and forgot the stroller. They had two couches near the front end of the bar.. and so I asked if we could sit there since I had the baby.. and they approved.

The food was so incredible! And the service was perfect! I had nothing bad to say about it. My husband was also impressed at how clean the men's toilets were. That usually says a lot about a place.

I had the delicious "USA style BBQ pork ribs" served with mash potato & vegetables & my husband enjoyed "Beer battered gummy" served with chips, salad & homeade tartare. For dessert we had the "Sticky Date Pudding" with butterscotch sauce & butterscotch ice cream & the "Creme Brulee" with orange, strawberry & Chantilly cream.

They were both equally delicious.. but the butterscotch desert was to die for!!!
We had a GREAT family date night! :) Thank you Bear House for the delicious meals!

Upon arriving at the bearhouse at 7:30, we were told our reservation (that was made at 5:45 the same day) was not there however they had a fee tables open so seated us straight away.
We noticed throughout the night that at least one other patron had the same greeting..
We'd chosen to come based on the menu which sounded tasty; unfortunately neither of us thought much of our our meals; they weren't awful but my bf's scotch fillet was a poor cut and very chewy and I had the salt bush lamb rump which wasn't anything more special than I could have made at home. I don't know what was in the salt rub but it didn't give the lamb anything to speak of.
We also had dessert; the sticky date pudding was good.
The chocolate fudge brownie composition was beautifully served stacked in layers with ice cream in a martini glass; it looked great until it fell over and almost ended up on the table when I tried to take a spoonful; it wasn't a brownie - it was actually a traditional choc fudge square which unfortunately went rock hard from being next to the ice cream and I worried while eating it that I would crack the glass from having to cut so hard into it.
I'm not really a fan of fudge so I found it a bit bland but it tasted like fudge should (not the brownie I thought it would be though) so if you like fudge you'd like it.
I will say that the service was fantastic and the atmosphere was pleasant.

Overall I think the mains are overpriced for what they were (especially in Cranbourne) but the desserts were priced well and the service made the overall experience a reasonable night.

I wouldn't go back based on price vs food but I wouldn't deter anyone from trying it as they may be happy with what they get.

Great! We'll be back!. Firstly, the service was excellent - both table servers were courteous, helpful and speedy, without being in our face. Price was very acceptable, and the wine was really good (only $25 bottle for a nice shiraz/cab sav/merlot - a surprisingly delicious red).

Entrees were served in goodly time - wasabi prawns for him and trio of dips for me. Plenty of turkish bread for the dips, most of which I enjoyed (not a fan of beetroot dip, to be honest), and he loved his skewered prawns and mild wasabi dipping sauce.

Mains were traditional veal scallopine for me (really good, generous serving, nice veg) and pork sausages for him - he loved the sauce!

I think this restaurant is very under-rated, and that Cranbourne foodies should give it a go - there really aren't a lot of options here unless you go to the pubs, albeit some of them are quite good.

Thank you, Bear House Restaurant - we had a great night and we will be back!

Poor service, high prices, tasteless and food was served cold. Steak over cooked to request. But was cold on arrival to the table. Won't be back.

Sunday breakfast lunch no longer. We wanted to go to Bear House for lunch on Sunday and when I rang to book, I was told they no longer serve lunch on Sunday. Disappointed ... esp when information on websites is incorrect.

AMAZING FOOD!. We had the pleasure of coming to the bear house on a busy saturday night and lucky we booked;
a party of 4 just out to see what the fuss was about ...."new chefs" to those that might not know ..from distinguished city and bay restaurants well thats what they say :O)
and may i say THANK GOD! they are here ... this will be our little food haven..
for staters the calamary st andreas with a balsamic aioli was great! the scallops ,the bruschetta ! not brushetta
was equaly delicious with parma ham and ricotta cream perfect'!! just perfect!
the tuna carpaccio was 'life changing' and some lovely little prawns with panko cumbs and soy sesame glaze!
In cranbourne terms.. yummo..i do hoever miss the ambience that i am nornally used to when i wine and dine like this.. some polishing up with the decor and as for the ferral croud we cant change that.
having said that.. i would say we have a winner.. now to , the main meals . after all its a restaurant review!
lamb with celeriac puree' just melts in the mouth, veal with whipped potato and butter sauce.. one of the highlights of the night, a masterfully cooked spatchcock with root veg and jus.. and a BIG 400GM angus scotch with all the bells and whissels .
i hope my review is enough to encourage any person that takes delight in eating out to:
RUN in here and try it out for your self
exciting times for the foodies in cranbourne and only a 20 minute drive from my home.. perfect!
the wine list is very affordable and matches well with the food
and the desserts are a real treat! praline almond semifreddo ( not the chocolate kind)
a very flashy pannacotta with berries compote and balsamic syrup .
very impressed ! may i advise a bearhouse members club?
and if so .. count me in!

Complete rip off. I would highly recommend NO ONE attends this place, we had a booking for 11, arrived at out time the waitress full of tattoos was completly rude the whole time! when asked for menus after sitting there for 15 minutes she said OK in a rude matter, waited 20 mins befre they came back to order food and drinks, they stuffed up 2 orders, when asked for brushectta they said it was tomato and basil, when it came it it was nothing but bacon and ricotta cheese, when asked why tattoo ferral replied chef changed his mind then got snotty when we told her we dont want it, another girl didnt like anything in the menu and asked if she could pay for a adults size spaggeti off the kids menu and said no, also charged us $9 to eat a cake we provieded and didnt even tell us it would be this much, when we asked we got the responce, whats your problem really rude, over priced, food was shocking, never ever would i go, wouldnt take my dog there

Service was slow and it was a cold winter's night with no one willing to source more wood - menu was not up-to-date and a meal was unavailable so we ordered with lots of hesitation. Although expensive as a meal out with two children in tow the steak was wonderful with the pepper brandy sauce and the veal scallopine melted in your mouth - a talented chef saved the night! Service 5/10 meal 9/10

Went back for the 2nd time on Friday night. Was very disapointed in the service. I booked a table for 6 ppl. We arrived and I said my name for the booking. The waitress said we don't allow thongs and looked at my feet to which I responded its over 30 degs and I am 8 mths pregnant I can pretty much only wear thongs, i then saw the table we sat next too all of them were wearing thongs!! Food was amazing as it was last time, two ppl on the table ordered the duck rissotto one asked for no parmasen but both were served without. Didn't get asked for drinks after the first one, ended up going to bar to get more water. Asked for cracked pepper never came. Everytime waitress came to table she complained they were short staffed. Thankfully the food was terrific but everything else was disappointing

Great ambience and nice food . Will go again any time.

It's a toss up between the bear house and racetrack for the best food in cranbourne, food at the beat house is a little small and the menu hasn't changed for a while, friendly staff, best to ring in advance because restraunt isn't always open.

Alan.. After several excellent dinners, I was overjoyed to see them no doing lunches.
The food was 1st class, service delightful and both Manager and Chef found a moment to say hello.
That I'm local makes life easy, but I'd happily travel to eat here.
Dean
Overrated and Out of date food. The food here may be good for some but if you want fresh food this is not the place to go. Clearly those who like this food do not know what quality food should taste like.
I asked for a medium rump steak which was unimpressive, over cooked and the meat was cleary out of date The chips where over salted and the vegetables where not fresh, the asparagus was chewey and undercooked.
The staff tried really hard to be proffesional and although it appears to be a fine dining resturaunt paying $35+ for a steak that is not cooked properly and food that is not fresh is a complete rip off.

Absolutely fantastic. Not a single complaint. I've been here three times and on every occasion the owner has come around to ensure we are happy. Food was to die for. It still blows my mind that a place like this exists in Cranbourne. I highly reccommend you go here and see for yourself

Great atmosphere, Extraordinary place. It's awesome says Ellie. Food is to die for. Service prompt and friendly. We had a great 50th birthday dinner.
