You could find me here on the regular.
Texan burger, one of the best.
Have had a good chat with the Chef on a number of occasions.
Might even find me on the wall of the days of the chilli challenge.
Decided to order the pulled pork loaded fries and the hot wings for takeaway and must say I was impressed! The wings were just a nice spice level and was perfect for a winter day ! The pulled pork fries has lots of flavour , meat and sauces which added to the whole experience for me !
Will definitely order again!
Chicken buffalo burger ? 👌👌👌👌 On point for fried chicken, spicy and tang. The chips are freshly cooked to order, get a little packed when it's sport night rugby, cricket footy whatever but it's always good
Lovely place to eat. Good burgers and friendly staff. The devil wings is certainly a challenge to eat. Some of the food items are really spicy. Shop remains open till late night. On screen music is there, you can even play table tennis while drinking.
What more can I say other than if it’s a damn tasty burger your after then give varsity a go. I had the double cheese burger and it was delicious. The patty was super juicy and tender and the burger as a whole was delicious. Definitely not one to miss. 2 thumbs up 👍 👍
Great venue for a burger and a few beers with friends. Big range on the menu, if you can’t find something you’re not looking hard enough - and a massive drinks selection to cover every taste! Highly rate it 👌
Definitely a spot my friends and I have lunch at once a week. There's a huge variety of food and drinks, as well as screens to watch sport and pool tables. Really good atmosphere.
Delicious burgers and tasty sides. I would say the highlights would be the double cheese burger, chilli cheese fries and jalapeño poppers. The only thing to be aware is that they cook their patties medium to well done, meaning when they first come out they are juicy but quickly then dry. This means attending the restaurant is more recommended then getting delivery. Still, highly recommended!
Great food... Now some may disagree. Some measure toughness by the level of chilli one can withstand. I may be weak... But those devils wings were presented straight from Lucifer's kitchen.
There are some serious fire merchants in that kitchen at Varsity and they deliver when it comes to heat.. . But I love the place and the real honest food
and will always go back for another round against the "fire in my mouth (and elsewhere)" wings.
Cheese deluxe burger is always the most satisfying burger. Comes with chips too, the burger on its own is worth everything though. Awesome beer, and the best damn service ever. The staff are having fun and so are the people. Manager even takes time to walk around the place and see how everything is going. Now I must find somewhere to lay down and die.
Highly recommended, give it a try if you haven't already!
I haven't had a lot of good veggie patties, but Varsity's Vege Deluxe is pretty decent. The barbecue sauce on the burger was really nice and didn't overpower the taste of the patty at all. The chips were nicely seasoned and nice and crispy on the outside. The portion sizes are deceptively filling! If you're a hungry adult, chances are you'll be satisfied with the portions. Going in at happy hour also gets you $6 pints to wash it down!
The relaxed, student-centred vibe is awesome, but it's also suitable for older crowds. Definitely would recommend.
Soo good! The deal they have for students is also a steal so definitely check it out if you’re a studying! The food is very delicious and definitely gives off that ‘American football’ vibe. Very chill place with a pool table, comfortable seatings, friendly staff and delicious food too!
right off the bat the vibe & feel of this place makes it a great hangout spot. the food is affordable, & the sides are big enough to share with friends. probably some of the best wings in Perth, too! also the chips deserve a shoutout, as does most other things on the menu. a dope place to chill & watch sports with comforting cheap food.
Extensive option for burgers available to choose from. Great onion rings to munch on too. I didn't mind their house beer, although I'm no beer guru. Definitely recommend this place. It was a bit noisy but I think that adds to the atmosphere
Was in the mood for a spicy burger so I ordered the buffalo burger! The fried chicken was crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside, perfect for a greasy feed!
We came here for an early dinner. A good casual place for a casual meal. I ordered the Americano hot dog and it wasn't bad, just messy to eat!
Great place for burgers and the spicy chicken wings are also a must! Came here to watch some sports on the big screen. Good atmosphere and decent prices with huge portions. Have been a few times and will definitely go back
Picked this place for date night dinner with my partner and it was a damn good choice. We each got the Americano Hot Dog and Mac & Cheese. I also got the Popcorn and Salted Caramel Shake and my partner got the Chocolate Marshmallow shake. I personally wasn't big on the Mac &a Cheese as it was just a bit thick for my liking, my partner loved his. We both thoroughly enjoyed the hot dog (our eyes nearly burst out of our heads when we saw the size of it) but we both agreed it was just a little bit too heavy on the sauce, but hey, you can scrape some off if that's a problem. The biggest highlight was my popcorn & salted caramel shake. It was BEYOND scrumptious, and while my partner enjoyed his, he would have stolen mine had I given him the chance. Will 100% be coming back to this place 🙌🏻
Varsity Bar is quite the popular burger joint. The American themed bar, with huge mural of the “stars and stripes”, was heaving on a Sunday lunchtime. Tables full of punters devouring burgers, $5 pint cans of PBR American beer and Pyrex jugs filled to the brim with creamy milkshakes.
Delicious burger very tasty. I had the Tropico I think it's called it has pineapple and bacon. Very yum the brioche bread is delicious. I got the Texas burger in a takeaway for my husband, this is the top rated burger on the menu 🍔 but unfortunately he found it very rich and the BBQ sauce way to much ... I took a bite and thought the same. So if u not into rich sweet BBQ sauce I don't recommend that burger. However my Tropico chicken burger was AMAZING chips are tasty and a cool 😎 vibe overall

Great American themed bar in the Broadway shopping centre near UWA. Filled with slacking academics and students alike. This place has a fun albeit grungy atmosphere and big food.
Great atmosphere, extremely quick and friendly service!
I have previously been to Varsity Burgers in Northbridge and had a Beef Burger but today I tried the Soul Chicken Burger. A decent piece of chicken but I didn't really enjoy the seasoning used so I would stick with Beef next time.
Beer battered chips are amazing and the Cookies & Cream milkshake was to die for!
For your fix of grease and meaty goodness, don't go anywhere else! Varsity hits the spot every time. Expect a young crowd, buzzing atmosphere and awesome daily specials. I'm yet to get through much of their menu but the choice is great and everything I've tried has been outstanding. 👍🏾
Good place to grab a beer or two and watch some sports. Been there a couple of times to watch UFC and recently tried the spiciest wings and nachos. Wings were extremely spicy even for the seasoned veterans who think they can take on a ghost pepper. Nachos were good but I'm not a big fan of the cheese they put on it. I like the atmosphere of the American style bar (look&feel).
The Varsity Bar offers a very American college-like feel to the place. The atmosphere was quite enjoyable.
I ordered the Buffalo chicken burger, which is buttermilk fried chicken with buffalo sauce and a side of fries. The burger didn't have much of a wow factor but it was palatable.
We also had a Pimento Mac and Cheese on the side and it was the best Mac and Cheese I have ever had.
Will be back for some more!
Nice burgers, very good chips and a fun place to hang out with friends! Mainly this is a place where uni students chill out, catch up and have a few drinks. A take on an American-style diner cross bar that's opened out and has an alfresco area. Nothing bad to say about the food or service and the atmosphere is great!
Came here on a UFC event afternoon. The environment of an American Sports Bar was definitely there!
The range of the menu was amazing. There was something for everyone and the complimentary sides definitely will keep diners there for hours. We ordered the mac and cheese which was delightful but quite heavy. The cheese was great as a dip for the chips and was a 7/10
I ordered the Texan for my meal and the burger came with a very pleasing presentation. The chips were fried nicely and unsalted (which is nice). The beef from the burger was juicy and tender. The fried onions however was a letdown as they were not crunchy but soft. The sauce did the burger well and to top it off, anything with pickle is good for me. I give this a 6/10 only because of the soft onions. A bit of crunch in the burger might be nice.
The peanut butter milkshake was average. Served in a Pyrex measuring container was interesting, but flavored were not as intense and maybe too much nuts (6/10).
Overall it's a great place, will definitely recommend this place to others and may come back soon for other burgers.
Went there last night and the place was packed!! Turned out it was quiz night sponsred/hosted (cant remember) by uwa. It was also crazy loud. We managed to find an available barrel by the door and fpund two chairs but there were ppl just standing around so if you go on Monday nights go early or go on Tuesday nights. We shared a serving of wungs which were delicious and right amount of spicy. I had the double cheese delux and a side of house cheesewhip sauce to go w my chips. The burger was delicious but despite the large amount of mayo was surprisingly dry. It was the kind of dryness that if you dont have a sip of liquid after each bite it lodges in your throat. I think it was the meat buy also the bread didnt feel fresh which given the huge turnover of this place it must have been. But it tasted good and the fries were amazing! He had the McFly which was super spicy but he also said his burger was too dry. In the end he soaked his bread in the leftover sauce puddle in the wing basket which he said made the burger extra delicious and also more moist. Def recommend!
Can't fault the food at this place. Burgers are delicious and juicy. Chips are crisp. Brownies are the bomb!!! The were very busy but our food arrived promptly. Only downside is that it can get noisy so hard to have a conversation.
Awesome place to hang out and have a burger and a couple drinks. The atmosphere is going off in this American themed pub. Video games, pool, table tennis are available to play. The cheeseburgers are the best
amazzzzzzzzing! best american themed sports bar I have been to, always good sports playing & the burgers were delicious! only been once, but am sure to go back, hard decision on what to order!
Yummy American style food and fun themed bar. OMG the 500ml peanut butter shake was super delish. Excited Varsity are expanding and coming to Waterford!
Great burgers, friendly staff, hot dogs aren't bad either - traditional American style not the pink boiled ones your Mum made. Enjoyable experience plus they have cheese sauce!
Bit of a varsity connoisseur now with the amount of visits I've done between here and the burger bar in the city and last night was as delicious as ever. Ordered my own special burger combo which is the 'double cheese delux, add bacon add pimento' this is THE BEST american style burger in Perth, if someone things there is, comment below as I find this extremely hard to beat. Chips very good, not sure which brand they use but the crunchy outside is always on point. Like other people have posted it's often fairly busy and loud but you'd expect that being located a stones throw away from the university. Small side note, the post mix is a good blend here.
Varsity team: I would really like to see some sliders (3) come on board here and to be specific a minature cheese deluxe with cheeseburger, lettuce, tomato, red onion, pickles, varsity mayo AND the small medallion section of a bacon rasher AND pimento. I'm telling you, test it yourself and be prepare to be amazed. People will be downing these like seagulls on hot chips
Average photos due to lighting, I'll be back many times so may update the post in the future

Great Burgers here!
Bit of a drive for me but worth it if you want a great burger at a good price. Staff were helpful and friendly and the atmosphere was relaxing. Service was quick and left more than happy. Will be coming back soon!
Varsity Bar is a dynamic bar with very good vibes. Situated in proximity with the University of Western Australia, be sure to expect some lively and loud university students, especially on Friday and Saturday nights. The great atmosphere does have it's downsides though, like how we waited over an hour for a burger to come out. A great place to just chill and catch up with mates over a beer on a casual occasion.
I'll keep this review simple
Want good beer great wings or maybe even the BEST burger in Perth? then head here! Simple as that.
Also pretty decent selection of beers, ample parking and they have foosball table tennis pool and more!
i was hankering for some good old pub grub like we got back home, heard about this place gave it a go. i ordered the double cheese burger and the pickles. I was glad i found a place that acrually serves deep fried pickles its been about 2 years and when you mention it people look at you weird. its pretty standard back in toronto. they were pretty good though they need more dill like you need to balls to the wall with the herb it makes all the difference, in the sauce, in the batter, everything. the burger was great and the fries were good. atmosphere is really nice and the service was really quick and helpful
My favourite place in Perth! For first timers getting the Texan is a must... such a fantastic burger! I wish I lived closer so I could go erryday.
A loud pub on Broadway Fair. We walked here as it was so close by so we were ready to eat some good burgers. We were seated immediately at a common table and decided what to order. I didn't know whether to order a sub, hot dog, chicken wings, burger or pizza. I decided to get the classic pulled pork burger. It came with a side of fries. The ambience of the bar was loud and there was a chicken wing challenge going on while we were there. The burgers came out really quickly and they were massive! The pulled pork was juicy and the sauce was so tangy and complemented the brioche bun, slaw and pulled pork. The chips were crispy and fried and spiced well. For dessert, I ordered a brownie with white chocolate chips and vanilla icecream. The brownie was rich and dense and the white chocolate chips gave it richness. The vanilla icecream was creamy and smooth. The only few negatives were all the food was brought out at the same time (dessert and main) so the icecream melted and the brownie went cold when I was eating my burger and the bar situation made Varsity Bar extremely loud and hard to hear anything.
Came here last weekend for a friend's birthday. It was sooo busy but it was a Saturday night so didn't expect anything less. I ordered the Hog Fries which was basically pulled pork with cheese and some sauce on chips... Yum!! And a classic Cheeseburger which was delicious also! The service was also really friendly although it was so busy at the bar. Will have to come back here during a less busy time to try more food!
As an American I was scared to try an "American" restaurant. I have tried it before and had been brutally disappointed by what passed as American food. I went to the Varsity Bar to have a mini 4th of July celebration with my husband. I was so pleasantly surprised! I could change the toppings on the foot-long hotdog and it tasted like home! I ordered the Coney with no cheese and mustard and the chili was perfect, just like I ordered it back in the states! The fries were also awesome and upon asking if they played American football games on the T.V knowing I can catch some NFL this coming September is extremely exciting!
Love the atmosphere and food. Not to mention they serve beer and Ben & Jerrys. Great spot place for a casual night out.
Watch out for the Super Bowl though, over crowded and not enough A/C for that volume of people.
I treated myself to the double cheese deluxe, which comes with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle and mayo. Generally speaking, I think the patty is often the “hero of the dish” when it comes to burgers, but this cheeseburger has made me re-think this statement a little. Don’t get me wrong, the patties were fine, but just… “fine”. Usually the patty will stand-out from the rest of the burger, but in this case, it was just another ingredient in the package. However, I must say that it was a very fine package – the cheddar was deliciously cheesy, the salad ingredient fresh and crisp and the mayo was fantastic. You can taste a hint of sweetness in the brioche buns, but they are quite light and fluffy – if you any more ingredients in your burger than I did, you’ll find that the structural integrity of the bun is quickly compromised. Overall, everything works – the patties may not stand out, but they don’t need to either when everything else complements each other like this – no single element stands out and that makes for a nice well-rounded burger experience.
The bar was busy with sports fans glued to the t.v screens around the and we had to wait a few minutes before we squeezed on to the end of a table. We grabbed a drink (of course) while mulling over the menu. There is so much to choose from. I wanted to order from this menu as though it was a tapas menu but as I looked around, I noticed the portions were quite large.
I probably went at the wrong time for a sit down meal (Friday night) but it was a friends birthday so we made do! There was a large group next to us hitting a ping pong ball around the whole time but they quickly sat us as we entered so we were happy. The place was so full I was surprised at the speed.
The food was tasty, full on meals which were large. We got an assortment of burgers and hotdogs as well as a huge strawberry milkshake. Safe to say we were extremely full! Will be back at a better time.
Massive, juicy whoppers are what varsity burgers are in a nutshell. I went with a group of mates and we all left happy as clams. I had the Presley burger. As a peanut butter fiend, when a friend saw a burger donning peanut butter + smashed banana, it was destined to be mine. The Presley certainly didn't disappoint. The serving of fries on the side was huge too, making certain you won't leave with a hungry bone in your burger-filled body.
My burger was so good! Ordered the soul burger (chicken is my weakness). Could barely finish it all as the piece of chicken was hugeee. Chips were amazing too! Sister ordered pizza which was nice but little too much olive on it. Service was fast and good, Rodgers beer on tap too. Can't go wrong
Varsity is my local and never fails to deliver the perfect burger - my faves are the cheese deluxe and the soul burger. The bun is sweet and just sturdy enough to hold its own against the tasty sauce/cheese drip factor. The patty is always cooked to perfection and the chips are awesome too. Best burgers in Perth.
Had nachos and texan burger. Generous portions and toppings. Fries had a hint of smokey bacon and was sooo good. Burger was pretty decent as well.
Hmmm, interesting place. I came here with a group of 10. We had chilli fries (as they had run out of pulled pork. What?!?!?), pickles and onion rings. Onion rings were great but the chilli fries were a disaster compared to the ones served at the Northbridge outlet. Soggy and lacking in flavour.
I had the bacon and salted caramel small milkshake, served in a Pyrex jug which is bizarre. Seriously tasty though.
My burger was the Cheese Deluxe. Great flavours and a good serving but really stingy on the onion and the brioche bun was dry.
Good atmosphere but for an American themed bar it was odd to see Premier League on every screen. Great selection of bottled and tap beers and friendly service.
Ah America - you just know how to ruin anyone's diet. The food here is awesome. Dirty, fatty, greasy American grub. And I loved every bite. I had the vego nachos and the pretzels. Both were full of flavour and neither got finished as the portions are very generous. He had the Devils piggy back hot dog which he was able to finish but the side of chips were hardly touched. Shame cos the chips were dam good too!!!!
This is such a cool venue - ping pong, pool, sports on the many TVs and a choice of high tables or couches.
The staff are fun, friendly and seem to love their jobs.
No wonder the place was almost full at 12:30 on a Sunday!!!! Will be back for sure.
Went here today for the first meal of the day with my boyfriend. He got the pumpkin salad with lamb shoulder while I got the BBQ Jerk pizza and a large spearmint milkshake. Firstly the milkshake blew me away when it was brought out. It was topped with a generous cap of whipped cream with what I think is crumbled chocolate flakes. It was amazing but I was overwhelmed by the sheer volume as it was more of a thickshake than a milkshake. I tried a bit of my boyfriend's salad and really enjoyed that too before eating my pizza. The stretch factor of the cheese was 10/10 and the pizza was nice and hot. I was surprised by the chilli kick when I took a bite of my first slice as I didn't read that there was chilli in it. One downside to this pizza was that there wasn't enough chicken scattered on top, and that the chicken that was on it was only located in the centre. Overall I didn't mind because I loved the cheesiness. Definitely a place I will come again for the food, atmosphere and good service.
The Broadway Fair Shopping Centre was heaving with people at lunchtime on a recent weekday. The fact that it was filled with mostly uni students was sufficient to make me realise that my youth is now well behind me... but fortunately there were plenty of beers and very good burgers in which to drown my sorrows!
The cheese deluxe with smoky bbq sauce was sensational and there were plenty of hot crispy chips and a pickle accompanying it. Atmosphere is great, service is friendly, prices are reasonable and burgers were delicious. Think I might have just found my new favourite burger joint.
Went for a drink and ended up with the cheeseburger as well. In my opinion this beats the current franchise alternatives offering gourmet burgers. Have to buy a drink to go with it to get the $5.00 deal. Well worth it. I'm coming back but we will have to work out how to get burgers for our underage kids, maybe mother and father sprout have 2 drinks each and the 18 year old drives us all home.
If you have nothing to do on a Tuesday night and find yourself craving some hot wings, then Varsity bar is the place to be! With half price wings and a large selection on drinks (and on tap), I wouldn't want to be anywhere else either. They have a pretty decent selection of great burgers and other less important foods.... With a neat set up and welcoming vibe, I would definitely recommend a visit sometime. They have pool tables on offer and other games like foosball etc and also live music too.
A Varsity Bar cheese burger is always a good idea. Hard to find such a great burger that isn't overpriced or pretending to be fancy. This one hits the spot every time. The milkshakes are an indulgence but worth the calorie splurge. The menu had changed since I was at uni, I had fond memories of a squid salad that they used to do.
I had the Texan which was amazing and surprisingly easy and neat to eat. Great pricing too as they came with some pretty good chips, just too full to eat them all. Worth the visit
Chilled American uni replica , the decor seems to be working with the crowd , its fun, young and down to earth. Typical American laidback fried and comfort food.
Had the Coney hotdog today, boy its a beeg beeg dog , its bigger than the average hamburger. Definitely a hunger buster ! The Chilli was real salty and lacked actual chilli. It was ok , not great though .
Also tried the texan burger , its real good. Basically you cant go wrong with ordering burgers here, theres a good bun-patty ratio and the bread is real soft and fresh.
Nice place for a quick eat.
Catching up with a friend Wednesday night, we dined at Varsity Bar, an all American sports bar a few kilometres out of Perth’s CBD. It’s located in a dated small shopping centre along Broadway Ave in Nedlands. The ‘NOTORIOUS P.I.G’ of pulled pork, saucy slaw and a BBQ sauce, the flavoursome sauce absolutely dominates the burger and there is a liberal serving of pulled pork. The corn chips are real tasty between bites of the burger.
Best burgers in Perth, fantastic American college themed sports bar, great selection of American beers, friendly staff and an overall great vibe. Check out the various specials on different nights
Hot wings!!! My rating is bases solely on the wings, they are what I repeatedly order.
Eating the wings take me back to fond memories of travelling through USA.
Great set up also, college bar feel.
Best hangover cure! Definitely hit the spot. Pimento Mac n cheese and hot wings. Washed down with a cold pint. Couldn't of asked for anything better!
After finally making it to Varsity after countless recommendations, I am proud to say I was not disappointed. Everything is hot to trot. Delicious, fresh, and very morish.
One of my favourite spots
For many reasons!!
The food is unique and delicious!
It is well priced!
And the servings are generous.
I would highly recommend the Mexican street corn, the hot wings, bacon caramel milk shake and pretty much any burger or hotdog on the menu!!!!
If you haven't been here before, get off your lazy ass and go before you miss out on something special!!
I came here for lunch recently with my girlfriend and it had a very authentic American sports bar feel to it. The menu was pretty impressive too! We ordered the wings for entree, the double cheese deluxe and the cheese deluxe. The wings were crispy and tasty but needed more sauce on them. Still good though. The burgers were good but not as good as I had hoped. Still very satisfying and you definitely get your American burger fix. Would definitely come back again
The burgers are huge and to die for and the deep fried pickles are a must! Just make sure you've got lots of room in your stomach to eat cos the portion sizes are huge!
Some of the best burgers Perth has to offer. Normally I'd get the da soul (fried chicken) burger which always hits the spot, likewise with their standard cheeseburger, and the burgers arrive with fries included; bonus! Pictured is a pork burger which was the special of the day (it was ok). They have a burger lunch special every weekday, super cheap at $15 which gets you the burger of the day, fries and a drink (beer/wine/soft).
Be ready to roll out of here! After spending some time working in the US I always loved the sports bars, the food and atmosphere over there! Varsity Bar has done a great job bring that feel down under!
The food is great however so filling as you would expect after devouring a huge burger and a...
This place is seriously cool. It is like a cross between an American burger joint and an Australian sports bar. It has a distinct student vibe but that's ok as I miss that chapter of my life.

After all the hype I have heard from friends and on urbanlist about this place, I was eager to try it out when I was in the area.
Had a double cheeseburger deluxe. It was definitely a good burger. Juicy. The chips were amazing too.
Had a peanut butter and chocolate milkshake. So glad I chose the small. It was nice. Maybe sweeter than I would like. But would not have expected anything less for an American milkshake!
Looking forward to come back for wings on Tuesdays!!
I love Varsity, the burgers, the American sports bar style, everything! It's been a great place to meet with friends and just hang out and eat awesome food, we were even more excited when they opened in Northbridge - we go regularly. My boyfriend took me here for one of our first dates, it has to mean he is a keeper!
This is honestly the best burger joint in Perth.
If you're looking for a nice dirty cheat meal or just a dirty burger then this is definitely the place to be.
The atmosphere is so great. They have all different kinds of sports games on the tvs. It is good for all the different nationalities that want somewhere to watch a game.
The food never disappoints. Every burger will eliminate any cravings that you'd have by just eating one burger.
I recommend the soul burger as it's just so delicious. The taste is like nothing you've ever had before.
Lastly the service is so fast, even when it is full and functions are on.
Wow wow wow I can't believe out of so many burger bars around Perth trying to the American thing this place has done it right I actually felt like I was not in Perth when I walked in varsity bar the atmosphere and the design of this place has a golden star felt like I was back in the US of A on holidays the food came and omg presentation and taste was devine the burgers mouth watering with that awesome American cheese between the meat patties that was just made the best the burger buns just done perfect soft brioche is a winner to the eye well done varsity enough said I will be back again thanks a lot....
ordered the lunch special of the pulled pork burger and beer for $15. So worth every dollar!! The burger was cooked to perfection the meat is so tender, the pickle adds a nice kick to it and the fries were amazing!! Very generous with the fries. Perfect lunch meal to just chill out and relax
So busy mid-week - the specials draw people in, that's for sure! We tried the "Presley" burger - a double beef patty with bacon, peanut butter and banana. Odd but interesting - something to share, though, a whole one would be a bit much. Then we played it safe by sharing the "cheese deluxe". Both came with great fries, and helped justify the price tag. Overall? Pretty good if you live in the area or visiting UWA.
Great food and great service and always a chance that a Rockingham viper is enjoying a beer and burger there everyday as well
Worth the drive !!
Went here for Monday night quiz night. American theme food and tasty. The Texan burger was great and considering how busy there were food arrived in good time . The food is bad for you but tastes soooo good. The quiz was good too. Great themed student bar with great food to back it up
Been here many many times and it never fails to please. It is a sports bar with authentic American pub grub (and mostly American sports on the TV) I hope they bring back the Sloppy José, it's the best!
Awesome food, great vibe. Girlfriend loved the vego options and when she's happy I'm happy. Felt sick after but thats what you get eating 70 dollars worth of american food!
What a fantastic bar! Love the American sports theme and the food is better than your average pub grub. I had the cheeseburger deluxe and it was delicious, chips on the side were tasty as well. Great bar, great location, fantastic food and good times, will be back again for sure.
As a non-burger fan, I fell in love with this place. Meat sweats from start to finish. Brioche bun and the patty were cooked to perfection. Surprised that the chips were to die for (a bit too generous on the salt though)! Chicken wings were good but the star of the meal was definitely the burger. I got the double cheese deluxe. I would give this place 5/5 but the let down was the service. The chick didn't give us a number and so our order got messed up. But easy fix. I'll be back to try the rest of the menu soon.
Best burgers I have had. .....great service the staff are lovley! So glad this is my local burger and booze joint! Highly recommend notorious P.I.G!
During Uni semesters, Broadway in Nedlands is always packed with students looking for an affordable and delicious feed, especially during lunch. Well I was one of those students not too long ago. There was one place I've never entered though, the Varsity Bar. One, I don't drink alcohol, so going to a bar, during a weekday lunch-time no less, did not appeal to me. Two, the prices on the menu were nearly double the average prices of other restaurants in Broadway. As a penniless uni student, living off my parents' money, every dollar was precious!
I have been to the Varsity Bar a few times now. The food has been delicious every time, service has been really friendly and the atmosphere in the place is great. I wish I lived locally so I could go more often. My favorite bar in Perth.
Great burgers! I always get the double cheeseburger deluxe and have never been disappointed. Tried the nachos the other day- would've been better with more meat but still tasty. Nicely presented and ok pricing.
We finally Tried the Cookies and cream milkshake- very disappointing would not recommend. The flavouring tasted nothing like cookies and cream more like cheap chocolate syrup and peanut butter? Perhaps the other flavours of thick shakes are better but at the steep price- I will probably not risk another dud.
One of my go to burger places in Perth! It is very popular with the uwa students and if you ever come here you will see why - Awesome American style burgers, nice sport bar atmosphere and a good selection of drinks. If you come during the week for lunch, they got a great $15 lunch special which usually include something like a burger, chips and a drink (from my personal experience)! Keep up the good work!

Usually hit up Varsity Bar on wing night (Tuesday) every now and then. Always leave satisfied. Went down Monday night which is quiz night, always a big turn out with a really buzzing vibe throughout the place. Noticed some menu changes so gave it crack.I had the Pork Belly sub, which was jam packed with thick crispy slices of pork belly, caramel miso and filled with crispy asian slaw. The sub was extremely delicious and the pork was cooked perfectly. Alongside this we shared a side of wings with ranch and blue cheese sauce. Big thumbs up all around. Washed it all down with a pint of Feral Hop Hog. Perfect end to a Monday night I say!
Love the layout, pretty much where ever you sit the tv is still viewable, have your meal and your pint with sports. Had burgers, wings, chilli cheese fries, seems like all the food is tasty and at good prices. Just the onion rings were horrible, no flavour and tasted just, I don't know how onion rings go wrong but they weren't good. Everything else though, great! Finish the night with some $2 pool and the night is pretty good
I'm horrified that as a uwa student I haven't yet tasted a varsity burger! We ordered the Notorious P.I.G. & the soul burgers & they were super yummy. The chips were also delightful & we could not stop eating!
The only improvements I'd give is that it's definitely not cheap & we had about 10-15min difference between when my burger & my mate's came.
Definitely heading back here tho(:
Very enjoyable. Great flavorsome burgers. I got the double deluxe burger. Reminded me of the Bacon double deluxe HJ's do but much better. Onion rings and fries were cooked well. The milkshakes were also a hit and not to add they have great beers on tap including WA local Feral Hop Hog.

american diner/sports bar.... cant lose.
ridiculously tasty burger patties. ($5 cheese burgers on thursday...get 4 and be in food coma)
$10 milkshake in a pyrex jug for your sugar fix.
incredibly long hotdogs. cant wait to revisit soon!
nice staff and bar service.
The good is pretty great and the vibe is chilled out and relaxed.
Not many places in Perth you can grab a Coney dog or a Philly Cheese Steak, apart from Varsity.
The also have a decent mix of USA drinks (beers and cool drinks)
Little on the pricey side, but for something different once in a while, go for it!
Try the Elvis Presley burger (with peanut buttet and banana)
Some of the best American style food in Perth. Hotdogs are epic, the wings are perfect and the best cheese burgers in Perth, so many things to choose from.
Best burger I have had in Australia hands down. I had the deluxe Cheeseburger and my husband tried the Notorious PIG. Everything about my burger was perfect- the bun, the cheese, the Mayo- I could go on. Hailing from North America, I have been searching for a burger that reminds me of home. Nailed it.
Went at 5pm on a Sunday night, having booked a table. A Dockers game was just finishing up and was being shown around the venue with the commentary blaring. I love footy so I was pretty happy with that. Unfortunately the volume remained the same when the footy finished. I'm always really disappointed when I can't hold a conversation with the others on my table, it really puts a dampener on the evening. That aside, the food is almost what I expected, good greasy American fare. What I was surprised about was the size of my hot dog. It was absolutely enormous. I'd read in a previous review that you can get the cheese whip on the side, which I'm very glad I did. I'm not a huge fan of cheese on burgers or hot dogs and it was quite strong. i wouldn't have been able to eat the hot dog with it. After we'd finished eating we ventured to the 'outdoor area' which was a bit quieter, although freezing, and the boys enjoyed a game of ping pong. It's quite nice outside. Actually, the whole place is quite cool, deafening music aside. Food is reasonably priced and all the staff we dealt with were very friendly and helpful. And surprisingly, for a middle aged couple with two smallish kids, we didn't feel out of place. Good for students and oldies.
Visited on a weekday lunchtime in the week before uni started (so there were a few students around) but not packed or anything. It had more suits than anyone else. Love the old school retro dark and dingy atmosphere inside and you can sit where you want and order at the bar. The meals were quick to arrive and were tasty! Hubby had Double Cheese Deluxe and it was generous and so tasty, chips were good too. I had wings (mmmm, yum) and the hog fries. Will be back to tackle the Presley burger ;)
If you are after a busy bar with a good atmosphere, Varsity is a good start.
As far as food goes, I recommend any hot dog dish and the onion ring!
This place has an unreal college ambience with the ultimate hang over style menu. Burgers, Fries, Onion Rings & American beer are reasonably priced ... with the Pulled Pork Burger being my favourite. Bar staff are efficient, friendly and polite. The weekly specials are a bargain and guys be sure to check out the most epic waterfall urinal ever! Until next time ... 7/10.
Finally visited this place with a friend for a no-guilt dinner. We arrived at around 5.30pm on a Saturday evening and it was pretty busy already. We did manage to snag a table outdoors which thankfully allowed us to have some conversation above the loud music playing indoors. We ordered some cheeseburgers (served with fries) and a basket of onion rings to share. We also got some ranch and house cheese whip to share. The burgers and fries were to-die-for! And the sauces were also absolutely delicious and very satisfying. The onion rings on the other hand were just oily. Very battered and greasy! Will return for the burgers and chips but not a fan of the onion rings for sure!
Dude food has quote the following at the moment.
The bar is always recommended to us and popular but we still weren’t quite expecting it to be so busy that the bar was full and I think we managed to grab the last table in front of the TV.
No table service so we perused the menu (for only a few seconds literally) before deciding we each wanted the classic cheeseburger (his a double of course) and a basket of hot wings to share. And a pint of beer each to wash it down, naturally.
Oh. My. God. The hot wings were seriously what I thought they must taste like in America. I have tried a many wings but nothing quite like this where even bringing the wing close to your lips makes your mouth water.
The cheeseburgers were pretty damn delicious as well. We did have to add some extra tomato sauce but the meat was just plain tasty. On that note though, don’t bother with a gluten free bun, it’s yet to be mastered by them.
Service- 8 (even when busy the food is quick)
Food/drinks – 9
Ambience – 9 (it’s like a real college bar!)
Value for $ – 8 (I’ve had cheaper burgers and wings)
Tallying up at 34 out of 40 – a pretty amazing score – lip smacking irresistible.
Wings, poppers, hot students, Budweiser flags, grid iron..,,,, yum to all. This place is a surprise and I like it. I felt like I was in Cali again. So mission accomplished boys
Amazing value. We ordered a meal each and still had heaps of chips left over. Both the Philly Cheese Steak Sub and the American Dog were delicious. We also had a nice big serve of the Onion Rings which were super crispy and the Varsity Mayo that came with it was the perfect accompaniment. Atmosphere was chill and the service was quick and friendly. Would recommend.

Tried some different things this time. Dale ordered the Devils Piggy Back hotdog, but it was a lot spicier than he expected and he had to scrape off the chilli onions in order to finish the hotdog. But it's probably an error of judgement on his part for choosing it. I ordered a standard cheeseburger and I can't complain. Perfect as always. We tried some desserts as well. I ordered the Key Lime Smash, which was a little bit tart and sour. It had a nice mixture of textures with crushed meringue and a biscuit crumb, toasted coconut and lime curd, but I probably wouldn't order it again. Dale had the strawberry cheesecake milkshake and he enjoyed it and would probably order it again.
Great atmosphere, quick service.
Burgers were delicious, onion rings were a tad to greasy but everything else spot on. Definitely will be returning
Great theme, great beer and the McFly burger is one of the best I've had in perth.
Varsity Bar in Nedlands has been on my to-visit list for ages, fueled largely by pictures of amazing looking burgers & shakes on Instagram. It opened just over two years ago, and is intended to be a true “American Sports Bar”, with food to match – burgers, hot dogs & your favourite bar / snack foods. They have also recently opened a spin off “hole-in-the-wall” burger outlet in Northbridge, Varsity Burgers.
Varsity is super delicious! I've never heard a bad word and wouldn't say one myself! I seriously recommend the pulled pork burger! The price is also good for the pocket!
Not bad, not bad! Have been meaning to come here for awhile. Walked in and it was nice and loud, trivia night of course. Ordered two burgers, onion rings and Mac and cheese. The burgers came with fries! Hope you're feeling hungry because the servings were HUGE! Burgers were delicious and so were the fries but stay away from those onion rings. Could probably wring out the oil like a drenched towel. Sickening. Other then that... Great value for money and service was polite and fast. I'd come here again and order something different next time.
Big portions here and great prices. Burgers and hot wings on a Tuesday were very satisfying, very good for drinks with mates. Bit loud and dark for a Tuesday but other than that, great night!
Great Dude Food!. Last night Caz and I went to the Varsity Bar in Crawley for a serious craving for some "Dude Food" which can mean a lot of things to some but for me it's usually American diner styled food which is hearty and full of flavour and accompanied by big servings and the Varsity Bar didn't disappoint.
The ribs were nice and for those who like them moist and fall of the bone they were good in that regard but I'm not as fond of them being done in the oven, steamed or boiled which these were but it's rare to find low and slow ribs anywhere in Perth and when cooked this way is pleasing to the masses. The ribs were slathered with a tangy sauce, that I'd have preferred a bit sweeter but at least they were meaty which is more than I can say for Lone Star "Rib" House, which should be called "Bone" house. The slaw was pretty good flavour wise but it wasn't as fresh as I'd expect and had lost some of it's crunch but the fries on the other hand were stellar, even though they were only packet beer battered ones they were so more-ish we finished the lot even though the serving was very substantial.
The Death Wings were about as close to death as watching a B Grade horror movie as far as heat was concerned but I understand they can't make them all that hot without having people sign a waiver and their current heat level would have most looking for the milk but I like mine super spicy. The flavour, texture and quality of the chook was great though with large wingettes that were crunchy on the outside and juicy to the bite, with a really nice distinctive Bhut Jolokia and Habañero flavour that kept me going back for more.
The Chili Fries were enjoyable too and I always order the chili as a side nowadays so it doesn't ruin the crunch of the chip. With a nice blend of beef, beans, freshly cut chillies, pickled Jalapeños and melted cheese, it all got gobbled up swiftly.
A good place overall and I reckon it'd have tasted even better after a few beers but will definitely go back there again as it was a good all round meal.
Really great atmosphere but the food we have tried has been a bit hit and miss. The chicken and waffles is good however the waffles we had was a bit dry and doesn't add that much to the dish. The fried chicken was sweet and juicy so no complaints there. We also tried the mac and cheese which is extremely cheesy and quite filling but the corn bread is forgettable. All in all, pretty good food and a great vibe with table tennis, foosball and pool tables.
Tip: Different themed specials for each night of the week. Instagram @jj_lian for foodie photos.
Awesome. Really good everything. Mac and cheese and burgers are all ridiculous.
We had the pulled pork Notorious P.I.G as well as the philly cheese streak. And devil wings which were really nice. Overall food was tasty, bit pricey but def worth trying out!
Go there ASAP!!. Had takeaway from Varsity, loved it!!! From the extremely and almost dangerously hot wings to the crunchy delight of the Philly cheese steak. This place is definitely worth a visit.
If you can't afford to travel to USA, a visit here will either give you very itchy feet or it just may satisfy the inner longing to travel for just a short time!!
If you don't live close to this place, it's worth the trek. The food was good at a reasonable price and the atmosphere was great.
Chicken n Waffles. Fried chicken and waffles
Good atmosphere and food!. This place has a really good atmosphere, I've seen the place really packed on a Wednesday night, and they had a live band as well. I also like the promotions they offer mid week (Tuesday night varsity wings etc.) The Texan burger was really good! I would recommend this burger to help a really bad hangover, i'm pretty sure it would do the trick. they have lots of other meals i am willing to try when i go back.
The billiards and ping pong tables are very entertaining too. It was good to hang around and have some fun quality time with mates. Another thing i liked was the staff give you a last call for drinks personally, so you don't miss out on a final drink to end the night.
This place is good for anyone who follows the sport, especially american football. They do have Aussie rules and soccer on as well which is good as well.
I would definitely return to this bar, very chilled and relaxed on a Sunday, not very crowded.
Absolutely love the mac and cheese. The service is also excellent. Such a fun place to go to.
Good food, good price. I love this place! The food is really good, with lots of flavour. The food is priced well too, $16 for burger and fries is pretty good and they have different themed specials for each night. They had live music while we were here. Will definetly be returning again and again.
Simply great. All I have to say is the buffalo chicken wings and onion rings.
Very tasty. Highly recommended.
Urban spoon rating is spot on.

Worth it!. I have never stepped foot in this place during the four or so years that I have been a study at UWA and oh, how I regret not trying this place sooner. Came here at the peak of lunch time and was warned about the slow service (since it was peak hour) but surprisingly the wait was not so bad. The atmosphere was mellowed and chilled. Ordered the Double Cheeseburger ($14) and a lemon lime bitters (middy, $3). The serving, may seem average at first until you finish the burger, then you realise how generous the serving is, The bun was soft (my favourite) and the burger had two THICK patties (cooked nicely and very juicy). Left very satisfied since the serving came with delicious beer battered chips. Staff is friendly however tables weren't cleaned as fast as I would like them too (forgiven, as it was peak hour). Sadly, the meal was rather oily, ''hello high cholesterol!'' but I believe it was so worth it! Closest thing to american food that you see in the movies.
Will return to try other dishes.
Great Pub. Good food if a little overpriced, great selection of beers and fantastic bar staff. Does blue moon on tap (which is incredible). This place is however far better for their casual beers then they are for their student events. One of my favourite little bars to catch up over a pint.
Good ole American favorites. Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves here. Loved the menu. Great choice in American beers. Portion sizes are great. Tony Roma's could do with a lesson from Varsity Bar on portion size. I'd rather have too much than not enough on my plate. We will be back for sure!
Loved it. Came here on a chilly sunday night after work to a decent crowd, all of us for the first time. we tried at least 6 different sandwiches/burgers on the menu, loved every single one of them, especially the philly cheesesteak, entrees were also yummy and the service prompt and friendly. overall very enjoyable experience, will definitely be back to sample others.
Service, tick! food, tick!, fun, tick!. Was looking for a place to celebrate my American partners first birthday in Australia. I came across this place here on Urbanspoon and having never been there before, I read the reviews and emailed Fabian to make a reservation for 16.
At first, I was little put off when I realized that we would all have to go back and forwards to the bar to order but all is very much forgiven and forgotten. The staff are lovely, friendly and genuinely so! Not to mention super efficient. Everyone kept commenting about how great the staff were.
Fabian was great and he came up and introduced himself to me and then checked in on us a few more times.
And an added bonus..... absolutely no phone reception inside!
4 hours later, we left merry, somewhat intoxicated and with very satisfied appetites!
Shout out to Fabian for taking care of us and a shout out to the staff for doing what they do so well. Haven't seen that in a long time.
Needless to say, we'll be back for more
Great Food, Great Service. Do not have a bad thing to say about this place, we like to go there after work and have a few pints play some table tennis and pool or sit around and watch some sport. The food is great, good variety and good service for Perth's standards. Will continue to venture to this place!
The food is similar to what u would find in the US. The servings are generous and the food tasty! The bar was packed with the UWA engineering club when we arrived which was really off putting as it was very loud, hard to move and difficult to keep a conversation going but once they left the night was more relaxing! The beers were good too!
I went here recently for the first time for lunch and it was perfect, great selection and everything tasted perfect, this place will deff be a favourite
Great food + service. Was here with a group of friends last weekend for a birthday. Service was fantastic, food was tasty (and well priced) and the manager, Matt, was was very friendly. Will definitely be back
I have visited 3 times now & have been impressed each time! I've tried the Soul Burger, the inside out grilled cheese sandwich & macaroni cheese (I didn't rate this one very highly, was more watery than thick & cheesy).
Atmosphere is fab & staff are friendly & welcoming. I can't say no to a Dr Pepper either :)
Best burgers in Australia.. By far

A hamburger how it should be, big, bold and one mouthful closer to a heart attack. I travelled across town and was not disappointed (cheaper than a flight to LA). The genuine article.
Sort of meh but will try again. Nice bar...cool vibe.....ordered the steak po boy. I minused the bacon which they were happy to do. Received my meal only to find that they also omitted the cheese and the onion jam which resulted in a dry, bland sandwich.
Will not write this place off just yet as the food coming out of the kitchen looked amazing. Will try again.
Like the New Yorker burger. Service is good. Great value.
Real USA Cuisine. Best burger in Perth easily, how a burger should be, it isn't trying to be healthy or gourmet, go to Jus Burgers or Grill'd if you like that kind of stuff. I had the triple cheeseburger, awesome meat to cheese to pickle ratio and the bun was perfect, brioche style bun. I would say this burger is a mix between Shake Shack, 5 Guys and In N Out (USA burger joints), really close to being as good as those places. Serving size was really good for the price.
Wings are top 5 I have ever had, this includes all the wings I had whilst in the USA. This says a lot, I didn't want to say best wings in Perth because all the wings I have tried in Perth are terrible (including Tony Roma's, Merrywell etc). Again the serving size was really good for the price.
Fried pickles were amazing and a massive serve.
The venue is a true sports bar, NBA was playing, Sportscenter etc. American beers, sodas.
Perfect place.
Tuesday night wing special. Shared some wings with friends. If you get 30 or more it only works out to 60c a wing. Very tasty. The extra sauces were good too. Especially the blue cheese and the death sauce. Staff are awesome and there is a pretty cool vibe in the pub. Definitely recommend.
Great Value Tasty Food. Obvious due to it's location, the Varsity bar is a bit of a hangout for UWA students.
Great little bar which is very homely. The food reflects this. American style menu with classics like mac and cheese, burgers, ribs and pizzas.
We had a few different types of pizzas, the mac and cheese and a double cheese burger
All excellent and really actually quite cheap for the quality.
Best Buffalo Wings in the Southern Hemisphere. We came down and tried the Tuesday Night Buffalo Wing Special and it was incredible! I've tried my fair share of Buffalo wings all across America and have been waiting and wishing for Australia to catch on. I've tried a few sad attempts at other bars around Perth but this finally lives up to the American standard. My mouth is watering just thinking about it right now...
A friend also had the Burger which I tried and it was also great. It had this Mayo-Buffalo sauce which was amazing and the whole thing just melted in your mouth.
Awesome place and great atmosphere!
Awesome food!! Buffalo Wings, Double Cheeseburger and Ribs were all fantastic! Cheers Varsity!
After years at uni watching failed pubs come and go at the old basement venue, they have nailed it! Great design, well priced menu, amazing meals and finally we have a great uni pub that serves the locals.
The table had Mac n cheese $14, two serves of bourbon ribs ($16 ea) and a double cheese burger ($12) all were well portioned and really good sides, not huge but a good portion, any bigger and the quality couldn't be met for the cheap price.
We had a dipping sauce called buffalo mayo or something... Best thing ever.
Well done guys! Our new local I think!
Finally they have got it right. They changed the decor to suit the appropriate demographic of the area and food is really good "diner" style American. Much like the "Merrywell" at Burswood except the food is actually better here and really inexpensive!!! Can you believe it! The double cheeseburger is 10/10. American glossy bun with juicy patties and tastes amazing. Best burger in Perth. Forget about flip side , grilled or jus burgers.
Red Cups. A great American College-like bar complete with red cups and simple, traditional American food at an amazing price. Definitely much better than the predecessors at the same joint.
Really enjoyed, we went in not busy time so we could enjoy a varsity lager with double cheese deluxe burger and a superbowl, there was no dressing in the salad but still good. After some exercise we refuel energy in the best way possible. We will go back someday. Customer service was good. Thank you!
Any bar with pool tables should have enough room around them to actually play pool otherwise what is the point. I play pool so I found this issue particularly annoying, but everything else is great. Food is great, good atmosphere, plenty of screens and cheap jugs. Good times had by all.
Great chilled out place to grab a good selection of beers and good ol' American style food. Love the wings and buffalo chicken burger. Good selection of healthier or dietary options as well for those interested.

Great atmosphere and food. Sports Bar that serves great cocktails. American style eats that never disappoints. Staff are friendly and attentive.
Cool atmosphere. Service was bright and cheery with quick turn around for both entree and mains. Chomped into Nacho Libre Burger before could get a photo.... next visit for sure.
Been to all the varsity burger joints in perth now, theyre always my favourite. Their consistency is the best part about it, no matter which store you go to the food, service and quality is the same. This place continues to be my favourite burger join in Perth!
