Review Green Shiso Japanese Restaurant - Cronulla

Wow this place exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere was lovely and intimate with only 8 people all together. The chef makes whatever they feel like using the most fresh ingredients. You sit up at the bar/bench top so you get to see what they are making. Every dish was unique and had the most amazing flavours. By the end we were very full so it's not only amazing quality ingredients but you will be full by the end. The staff were all really friendly and helpful and the chef was happy to talk to us throughout when he had a break between dishes. They are fully licensed so you can get some lovely sake to go with the meal. We brought our own sake, you just need to pay corkage which we didn't mind at all. We will definitely be back!

Had dinner here to celebrate my father’s birthday! Whilst there are some good options, there isn’t an overwhelming amount of choice. This didn’t fuss my as I usually enjoy most Japanese food, but is something to keep in mind! We had some sushi and other sides. It is a restaurant that is more on the casual side. It provides a chilled meal with a mix of an authentic Japanese experience, in the heart of Cronulla! Will come back to try some more bentos (my favourite!)

Absolutely sensational experience. Shout out to Simon and the team. Delicious innovative dishes and fresh ingredients. You can definitely taste the heart and soul that’s placed into the whole experience. Cannot wait to come back!

We had dinner here on Wednesday night 10.03.2021 to this restaurant in the heart of the shire (Cronulla) only 5 minutes from Cronulla train station. We queued up to get inside, the lady guided us to our table and provided us a high chair for my nephew which was very good, very accommodating for me and my family however the lady walked away and never returned. She didn’t take our orders, so we sat there for nearly 10-15 minutes without a menu, so we sat there looking at each other’s faces well over 15 minutes! So I was so frustrated, so I asked her “Where is the menu? Can’t we order our food?” The lady just said “there is no menu, you need to order though your phone via the QR code” then she walked away, she did not even attempt to help us!! Not so attentive 😞 and what if we didn’t have our phones or internet? Then what next? She thought we had our crystal ball so we could read the future. No lady! You need work on perfecting your customer service, not driving customers away and them wait! And please educate all the customers and everyone’s faces that night looked totally confused. I understand that this is due to the COVID-19 pandemic situation, but it can be so inconvenient if you know what I’m saying! It took us well over 20 minutes to put our order in as we had internet issues etc. I was not please with the whole ordering process. The lady didn’t even take time to educate us, instead I had to cry out for help!! Anyways, the food was amazing! The sashimi & oysters were super fresh. I have been to this restaurant a few times! So I love the food here! The dumplings were average (but I loved the fresh seafood) I would highly recommend this place, I just think the services just need improvement that’s all! If someone elderly walked in, they would not know what to do! And there should be other options like an iPad and a staff support assisting people with the order.

Reasonably priced, fresh Sashimi / sushi. Grilled scallop sushi had really sweet and fresh scallop with excellent sauce, highly recommended. Ponzu oysters were great. Most of the makis were also very tasty. Casual, relaxed atmosphere.

Walking past this small, fresh & light filled restaurant with a sushi train in the middle & small tables around, you might miss it. But it is definitely a place not to be missed. There is a good selection of plates if you choose to dine along the sushi train bar & just as many delicious sounding dishes from the a la carte menu which offers traditional dishes as well as more modern takes of classics. The sashimi platter was a feast for the eyes as well as the palate with the deluxe platter made up of 5 different types of fish, scallops & an oyster with ponzu sauce. It was fresh & a great testiment of what's to come. The tempura & sauce was again perfect. Lightly coated & crunchy, the mixed platter consisted of various vegetables, prawns & fish pieces. Then there is the wagyu steak with amiyaki sauce. This was the highlight as the beef was tender, juicy, rich from the fat marbled through it and the 2 accompanying sauces - one savoury & one creamy provided good contrast. It was served with a baked potato, unusual maybe but it works especially when broken up and eaten with the sour cream & accompanying 2 sauces. There is a selection of delectably looking maki rolls which I will have to try next time but did try a couple of plates of sushi from the train, which were good but not as special as the other dishes ordered. When its busy, service can be a little slow which is forgiven with great food. Its also BYO wine so bring a couple and enjoy it with the great range of delicious dishes on offer. It was such a pleasent surprise to find a restaurant of this quality & at reasonable prices. Can't wait to return.

My elderly mum has almost no appetite and eats because she has to. We came here and much to her surprise ate a whole plate of teriyaki chicken. She has mentioned this place almost everyday since. She lives at the foot of the blue mountains and is planning to drive to Cronulla just to eat at this place. Food, service and price are great

The service was woeful,,and the food very bland ,,with only 6 people in the restaraunt ,too k 10 minutes to get a drink, and when ordered a meal they forgot to make it ,,(after going through the menu with the waiter) he just forgot to order it ,,never again .the sushi had little to choose from . all in all it was terrible

Thanks for having us tonight we absolutely loved each dish! The duck rolls were unique and flavoursome, the scallops were cooked to perfection, the squid was crunchy and light, the Wagyu skewers were flavoursome (maybe a little bit overcooked) and the desserts were awesome!!!!! Thanks again and good luck with the opening. We will definitely be back. ✌️

When you find the most amazing little Japanese restaurant.. you just have to tell the world about it! The location, the staff, the beautiful decor, and the food was incredible to be able to go somewhere so calm and peaceful from the minute you walk in, with fresh, clean healthy food, is my ideal night out

Sushi to next level!

Venue:
Cronulla street

Service:
Local friendly with lots of smiles! Very friendly!

Food&Drink:
I came just after kitchen on break ( 3-5 pm )
However sushi was available.
Why not, I don’t mind it at all.
Look at the menu, there is a duck skin sushi, I need to try this.
Sushi was amazing, their is something different which I don’t see this options on different sushi place.
Their alacarte menu looks amazing as well, will have to try next time.
Got take away from this place. The beef tataki was tender and delicious. The texture of the salmon wonton flowers was interesting, was not the biggest fan of the taste. I think the salmon and tuna sashimi tastes fresh, but I'm not sure about the white fish, as they smelt quite fishy. The meal was pretty expensive considering the portions especially of the starters.

Had a pit stop at Cronulla and thought I’d try this place out. It’s one of the best Japanese in the area according to locals. Food was definitely not authentic but I quite liked the modernisation of the food here.

The sashimi garden was delicious, it looked beautiful and tasted yummy as well. The mangoes were not fresh but it was still a pretty good dish.

Nasu dengaku was a bit disappointment. This was super bland and just tasted like a fully deep fried eggplant.

The mushroom salad was pretty nice - sautéed in soy butter with edamame.

The sushi rice tasted bland, I wondered if they even put much rice vinegar in it.

Overall, dishes were surprisingly ok but would have been much better with fresh ingredients. Their teriyaki salmon for example had deep fried sweet potato on top which has obviously been sitting there for a while and fried a very long time ago. Same as for the renkon chips in the sashimi garden and mangoes.

The food is delicious and there’s plenty of options. Maybe sitting in is a little bit pricey for dinner and the service is a little slow. But other then that I love the food.

Modern japanese in the heart of Nulla. I'd say this is one of the best. Light ad bright cafe churning out really healthy food. My top picks would be the sashimi with salad, prawn baos and the edamame beans with truffle. Go for a poke bowl for something substantial. Loving the sake tasting menu. Finish off your meal with the dessert platter for two. They have matcha icecream here!

Visited for the first time and loved it! I’m a big fan of Asian food in general, bao buns in particular, and went here to try their bao. They have 5 bao fillings to choose from (we had the teriyaki salmon) and the bun was super fluffy. Japanese flavours and creamy spicy mayo (rather than the Vietnamese flavours I’m more used to in bao buns) worked well. We also had greens (not boring at all! Beautiful sesame paste with steamed greens plus pickled elements and lotus chips) as well as beef tataki (great dressing) and sashimi carpaccio (super fresh and again with a great sauce and oil). Will definitely be back to try the other bao (and may even bring my lucky kids along to raid the sushi train while I savour the bao!).

The restaurant was very cute and I was excited to try it. Finally got the chance and I was a little disappointed. I ordered the lunch special bento box and it looked very small and empty in comparison to the big box they put it in. We also ordered one of the specials, a crumbed pork donburi with coleslaw and rice. The coleslaw was delicious and the pork looked like it was cooked well but it was very very chewy. Unfortunately not very pleasant to eat. I'm not sure if I would come back here but I'm sure some of the other options are nicer. I prefer moim and kuroneko ramen.

What else can be said for this place but wonderful! We can’t believe we hadn’t found this gem until a few weeks ago. The lunchtime bento box’s are such great value, they taste great and the staff are super polite and friendly. Definitely our favourite Japanese restaurant in the shire 😍😍😍

Lovely Japanese spot. Cute decor and fresh food. I ordered the bento box, which came with both sushi and hot food. It was delicious and only 14$

Popped in for some lunch to have a break from laying on the beach.

We had tuna and salmon sashimi, pork gyoza, salmon tacos, and salmon/prawn sushi roll.

Everything was fresh and tasty. The tacos, sashimi and gyoza were the faves.

I went to Green Shiso for the first time last night because it is a beautiful clean and open little restaurant and I love Japanese food. It was nice but not amazing. Food a bit heavy and a bit expensive. Would have preferred cleaner and fresher flavours. Service very friendly. Glad I tried it and recommend it but not in a hurry to go back.
