Review The Hayberry - Crows Nest

Jyoshith Kalathil
Been to this place on 18/Mar with a group of friends; in fact our first visit. A good atmosphere with decent selection of beer and food. Couldn't fault any except that when it rained unexpectedly, really heavy, we had to move inside the restaurant. Included in my 'regular' list of pub/restaurants.

when the big 4 pull up for burgers they aren’t easy to please, thankfully the hayberry delivered above and beyond expectations. upon delivery to the table there were several ‘phwoa, get a loaf of that one’ or words to that effect thrown around. the humour based decor and laid back hospitality of the staff makes me think if those walls could talk they’d have quiet the tales to tell. regards, the big 4 (+ ryan ‘the pest’ white)

Burger is fantastic, moist, not too much sauce. Friendly staff. Wings had too much hot sauce but OK.

Fun atmosphere! Could definitely tell this was the place to be after work on a Friday! We came with the kids and sat in a booth. Much loved seating, but could use some reupholstery. But lets be honest we are there for the beer and food. Good beer selection and food was filling. Great waffle fries.

This is the go-to spot for Crows Nest locals. The cocktails are delicious, the on tap beers change regularly and the staff are invested in making this an awesome spot. The outback seating area is cozy and you can't beat the vibe here. Those who visit, always come back.

Amazing staff, really delicious burgers and great beers on tap. Would highly recommend the chicken burger. Will be returning for the excellent atmosphere.

Classic burgers and always an eclectic mix of beers and spirits which always seem to evolve for the better. It really is the real deal US type 'hip' bar and restaurant, not just the big timber bar, not just the décor but a truck load of hot sauces on hand too!
Andrew C
Really nice friendly bar, great staff and service. Awesome burgers and delicious waffle fries. Really good selection of beers (they rotate the tap beers seasonally) Really good pub atmosphere, although it can be hard to find a seat at times. They are only open for lunch on Fridays unfortunately, every other day is evening only

Excellent. Good portion sizes, and pretty fairly priced. The waffle fries are a triumph. Probably my only issue was with the buffalo wings - the hot sauce was a bit too vinegar-y, and overwhelmed the chilli flavour somewhat. Cant complain otherwise though.

I can only really fault the Hayberry on one point: the lack of vegetarian options. There are only really three of these and they never change, nor are they particularly adventurous. The vegetarian quesadilla could, for example, contain more than just cheese (🍆?) and the veggie burger could do with a reimagining. That it is unfriendly to vegetarians is really the only reason we don't visit the Hayberry more often, which is a shame given the staff are really friendly and everything else is great. ☹️

Was there for drinks. Loved the wine, music, vibe. The staff are friendly and fun. Such a great place x

One of, if not my fave bar in Sydney!! Top notch food, sensational beer and wicked service!! Everyone is always friendly and the atmosphere is always chilled and relaxed. Had my birthday here last weekend, and I couldn't have picked a better spot!! Thanks to all the crew for making it awesome!!!

This place is great. Well priced craft beers on tap with great beer food to match. Unpretentious staff that make you feel welcome each visit. Thumbs up!

The Hayberry was awesome. The service, atmosphere and food were all 10/10. The prices were very reasonable. Def recommend. Def will be back!

So twettledee and twettledum greeted us as we had just walked half of willoughby road to find a beer after a long day in high vis. These lovely gentlemen looked at us a little odd when asked if we can have a beer. Couple of guys from the territory looking for a non judgmental establishment for a beer. Thanks guys young Henry's on tap. We will be back for triple cheese burgers soon.

Best bar in Crows Nest hands down! We are regulars here and the beers and food are always super tasty. Staff are always helpful and friendly and an awesome laid back atmosphere

Fantastic service, amazing burgers and simply the best chips in town. On top of all that, great beer selection. What else could one ask for?! Keep up the great work guys.

This was the second time I have been to The Hayberry for something to eat and once again, I wasn't disappointed. The staff are friendly and the food is yummy and better yet, Thursday night us "Wing Night"and they are only $1 each - WOO HOO

Love this place, best burgers, funky atmosphere and great service! Simple and perfect!

Loved the classic burger, my bloody mary was spicy and bold, the music was cool and the staff really friendly. Great night, cool bar.

I literally just finish my hayberry experience, im new to the suburb new to the country but the staff make me feel like home, little piggy is so good that even in spanish i lack the words to express it, but it doesnt compare to the atmosphere and the staff, cant wait to come back.
Terry Springett
Always friendly staff and some of the best burgers (and genuine buffalo wings) on the North Shore. By far my fav. local :)
Hugh Smeallie
Good food and beer so 2 stars Place was empty and it was a Friday night. I'm guessing the grunge atmosphere is out of place in Crows Nest. If it was true to its moto of blues and rock n roll I suspect it might fair better.

Had a great Sunday session for my Birthday and 10 wonderful guests. Food and staff were awesome. Will be heading back for sure.

Great vibes and awesome staff - they’re always super friendly and helpful. This is a great place for a get together with a group or friends or some Friday after work drinks
Amanda Wiley
The one time I went there, the staff were more intoxicated that the patrons. It was 9.30, and there were no more than 10 people there.
Ann
This is more a bar than a burger shop. As in if you are going there for drinks with some friends, the burgers might accompany the drinks I assume. But if you are going there for the burgers, you probably would be disappointed. Burgers were really ordinary, not really worth the price you pay. The waffle fries wasn't very amazing either. Overpriced, and not really tasty burgers.
FoodLuva
Whipper Burger and half pint of Chop Shop pale ale. The standout are the waffle fries, they are delicious. But the burger was a real letdown, and that’s what I went there for.
The bun was cold, why don’t they toast the buns ?? And the bun was very big, but the patty was thin - wrong bun to patty ratio. And the mustard, sauce and pickle flavour combo was really ordinary.
Candice S
My second favourite burger joint in Sydney after Bar Luca. The waffle fries are quaint and yummy. Good value too! Cool decor in US saloon style with nice outdoor area out back.
Rachael
If you’re feeling mega ultra hungry then this place is for you. Big sloppy burgers and delicious tacos. The big stack burger at $19 was definitely a hit. Waffle fries are also so yum. They were chunky, hot and tasty. The southern fried chicken tacos were also full of flavour and went down a treat.
Good atmosphere and drinks available. We will be back!

Bar serving.a really good range of drinks including cocktails. Big whisky range. We really enjoyed the special tequila cocktail. They also have food including wings, burgers and waffle fries!

First visit just had cocktails which were good, but on the low booze side. Was fairly quiet late on a Friday night. Very friendly staff and good vibe. Second visit, came for dinner. Got a big stack and a whipper. One of the better burgers I've had a
in a while and quite good value. Did find the lack of seasoning on fries and odd was told they don't have salt and pepper? Coke was room temp, like not refridgerated at all which was also odd. But overall, would return again for more burger goodness.
Anna Crabtree
Friendly guys with quippy one liners. Great choice on menu. Bad Ass margarita. Perhaps the southern fried chicken was over fried somewhat and I'm not a massive fan of waffle chips but overall a pretty good place for a big late hangover busting lunch on a Sunday afternoon. Even the Country AND Western grew on me after drinking the bass ass Margarita....

If you want to indulge in American style burgers then Hayberry is the place. Great selection of burgers and beers. Very nice ambience and great service. It gets very busy during lunch hours so it is better to make a booking which is only done online. For vegetarians there is only one vegetarian burger but the chef will make vegetarian tacos with some vegetarian fillings which is really tasty - strongly recommended to vegetarians in case you are tired of eating the only vegetarian burger there. Their waffle fries are the best. All their burgers come with the waffle fries.
Love At First Bite
Find us on instagram: loveatfirstbite_aus

This is a great diner and bar in St Leonards that does American bar food such as burgers, waffle chips and fried chicken. We ordered the Hay F.C fried chicken burger with bacon, swiss cheese, lettuce and hickory mayo and a side of waffle chips and the Cheesy Bacon beef burger with cheese, bacon, onion and house BBQ sauce. Their servings were very generous, overall a good casual place for dinner!
Missracheljennings
Best American style burger in crows nest! These guys have their burgers down pat! Their waffle fries are to die for and the smokey spicy salt they put on their fries is 🤤🤤🤤 also love they do a fresh green apple juice and whiskey drink. Goes down a treat!

One of my all time favourite local hotspots. Perfect for a lazy weekend drinking sesh or to drown your sorrows after a long day at work. 10/10 playlist, accompanied by deliciously greasy fries and cheeseburgers, how can you resist!!! Also the chicken wings with blue cheese sauce is to die for!!!!!!!!!!

I am obsessed with these loaded fries. Seriously, incredible with the chicken, chili, cheese... wow. Loved the burger quality, the serving sizes, as well as the waffle fries! Great experience, just a little cramped, and difficult to fit a group of people in there.

The Hayberry is basically my version of Cheers! The staff are now my new friends, the beer is now my water, and the bar is my now my second bed. Being basically an alcoholic, I do my drinks on value per litre, and you can get beer for the equivalent of $17.50/L or for $20 for 2 pints' worth. That's pretty hard to beat around Crows Nest, and for what you save, you don't lose quality nor good banter with non-pretentious douche-nozzles. Highly recommended! Oh and before you rage quit saying you don't like the beers on tap, there are some Melbourne Bitters or soda water available for your palate.

Delicious pub food . We had buffalo chicken wings and the best Beef brisket tacos of my life ! Accompanying it we had Lager from Byron bay . To top it all , the service was great ! I will return ! 😊

Went here today with my wife and 2 kids (wouldn't take kids at night as I imagine it's more a Bar than diner by night

As massive fans of Chilli Fries we've been on the hunt for a good local option for years. We've found it !

Chilli fries, Chicken burger and Quesadillas were all brilliant.

For a whisky Bar they sure make brilliant food !

We came here with friends who wanted a quick meal so we figured burgers were the way to go. We ordered the Borderlands, Spicy Texan, the HayFC, and the Cheese quesadillas. The burgers tasted great in my opinion, very filling and I particularly enjoyed my Borderlands burger which had Chilli con carne inside as well as jalapeños.

The stand out was the waffle fries: they were amazing! Crispy on the outside, soft inside and with fantastic flavour! Definitely worth coming back just for the fries alone!
Issac_eatsalot
Heard about these guys for a while and finally made it north of the city. Dominating Willoughby Rd , this bar has a super cool vibe with timber interiors and rock music. The double bacon Cheesey was very solid! Love the bbq sauce and the waffle fries served with the burger. Would return for more!

I love the Hayberry! I live around the corner from them, and since moving in its been love at first bite. The burgers are the best to go for and my personal fave is the Little Piggy, sometimes I ask for cheese with it too. The waffle fries are great too, and usually dont finish them!!!
If I ever need a satisfying burger fix and a local crafty beer, this is my heaven :3

I read awesome things about this place so I made half the office go out to lunch here. It was disappointing. One of the people who came with me said it had declined in quality over the last few months. This is probably correct.

Might have come in here with too high an expectation for their burgs or it could have been the big breaky i had prior. Went for their classic burg with waffle fries. The patty had a nice charred aroma, little bit gristly, wished it was cooked medium but it was closer to med well. Milk bun was not grilled. Onions mustard pickles cheese worked quite well with the burg. The highlight was the 'two cowboys' pepper sauce, drizzled on the waffle fries.

Nice relaxed ambience, ditto the service. Will ret to try their famed buffalo wings n fried chicken fries.
Toni
Service is terrible , when asking for service I got pointed to the bar no eye contact just a point , greasy feast no flavor. I would never go back to the dirty hipster bar .. Not cool, too expensive for below average food.

The Hayberry may not get as much hype as some of the other burger joints in Sydney however people who know their burger on the Northside (it's located in Crows Nest) know that Hayberry ranks as one of Sydney's best burger joints

My go to burger is the Big Stack. As the name suggests it's the sexier, tastier cousin of the Big Mac, delicious! I've heard good things about their other burgers too, including the (double) Cheesy Bacon pictured here. Waffle fries on the side are great and there is a massive selection of craft beers.

Even if you don't find yourself Northside very often, it's worth a trip up to Hayberry next time you have a burger craving!
Pollo_pesce_me
Sam: Ordered cheese burger it was very cheesy and the meat was cooked well. I didn't love the hash style chips though, it was little mushy and not so crispy.

This place is amazeballs! Nice ambience, great selection of beer and the awesome food is just a bonus! Love the burgers and fries smothered in sauce! Yum yum yum.

My favorite place by far. Food is always amazing and is priced very well.

Burgers, chicken wings with blue cheese sauce and the chilli fries are my personal favorite.

Great place to come with friends and spend an evening.

My friend who lives in the North Shore area had been raving about one of his local joints, claiming that they do some pretty decent burgers. Anna and I almost walked past the inconspicuous building when we finally got around to visiting the diner. The only clue of its location is the signage attached to the awning which happens to have a black and white theme. Peering through the open windows into the bar area, it is very dimly lit and the door entrance is found on the side through the arches. A tad eluding but we got there.

Nice cowboy atmosphere but tight in space on the side seats. Not great for people with babies or a disability as the step and table are quite high.. the guy at the bar who served us was very friendly and let us know the deep dryer was broken so we had a discount on our burgers as they were meant to have chips with them which was fine. We ordered a big stack, hay fc burger and a Bacon and cheese burger along with 2 cokes. I was dissapointed to find the burgers were dry.. the chicken for the hay fc was tasty but horribly dry. For the stack and bacon and cheese it was less dry but the beef in the middle was on the dry side with fatty bits in the middle. They gave it to us in a small basket which was hard to eat out of as well. Also thought not giving us a can of coke each was pretty stingy as he used 1 and a half cans for 2 drinks. In all, not worth for the price and you can much better burgers elsewhere for cheaper and drinks as well..

For a diner the ambience was really good. It was a cross between a pub and a restaurant, and had the look of an old British house with the vintage chandeliers and artefacts. Coming to the food we took burgers and their waffle fries. The patty was good but the balance was off as the bun was flaky and tasted ketchupy. The fries were extremely greasy but i guess that complements with drink, however it was not for me.

A short trip to the wild western pub. Ambience itself is a good experience with the casual serving style. Burgers look optimum juicy but not impressive in taste. Especially, Big stack was too oily along with the fries. May be a good choice for liquor only.

Dropped in to the Hayberry with a few of the boys from work one night. After ordering a round of pints and throwing around some banter, we decided to order. I ordered the borderlands burger and agreed to share some spicy buffalo wings on the side. The burger was exactly how I imagined it - awesome. The waffle fries were also nice and crispy. The buffalo wings weren't bad, but nothing special. I also managed to swipe a pinch of one of the boys' bacon and cheese fries which were devilishly good. Be warned - If you're dieting, you should keep to a kilometre radius from this place.

Wings wings wings, these guys do some of the best buffalo wings in Sydney! This is a buzzing place for afterwork drinks and digging into some great food. The booths are a fun novelty and the outdoor area at the back is great for a summer afternoon cocktail. Would recommend this place to others!

Really excited when this venue opened in Crows Nest as its in need of more cool bars with great food. The buffalo wings were delish definitely my favourite item I have tried. The burger was ok, really disappointed when the bun was stale. The fries were really well seasoned and super crunchy.

Came here on a Friday night and it was packed, but the area out the back was slightly less crowded and you could actually hear yourself speak. We tried the chicken fajitas and the pulled pork nachos - both were delicious! Really great smokey flavours. The fajitas could easily feed three hungry people. Lots of craft beers/ciders and some affordable wines by the glass. Great vibe, will definitely return.

Apparently burgers, wings and booze contribute to an unhealthy lifestyle. Go figure. Makes no sense to me. An afternoon pit stop at the The Hayberry Bar & Diner was justified after a lazy morning sleep in and a long week at work. A combination of meat sweat oozing from a tender beef patty, fiery hot sauce dripping tip to tail off a buffalo wing and tapped liquid gold were exactly what the cardiologist ordered.
SpencerJHanna
A friend of mine raved about the burgers here and god was he right. American burgers at there best- decadent and delicious . Service is good ( bar service , but they are a friendly bunch ) . Chicken wings were seriously tasty too.

Bianca: During a Friday spent accompanying Alex, photographing some of Sydney iconic pizza’s a month or so back, I just knew I had to throw a burger into the mix. If I’m faced with the iconic Italian staple and a burger it’s an easy decision, really, the hardest part was choosing where to go. Happening upon a blog post by fellow burger lovers, the HE/SHE duo of Oh Burger Me . I just knew I had to pop in to ‘The Hayberry’.

Seriously outstanding food! My boyfriend and I went on a Thursday night and it was PACKED. We got a beer and stood for about 20 minutes to wait for somewhere to sit so we could order some food (only reason I have given a 4.5, get there early!). I have to say - well worth the wait. Lucky for us it was $1 wing night, so we ordered heaps, and southern fried chicken fries. UNREAL. Absolutely hit the spot, wings had plenty of buffalo sauce and the bleu cheese was just right - chunky, creamy, delicious. I highly recommend to anyone wanting to splurge on delicious American food - worth the trip for sure.

Moose Drool - A Bad Poem. Tis' my favourite bar (by far!) because they stock Moose Drool. I wish they had Trout Slayer though, that would be cool. There are other good beers at the HB, but, Moose Drool.

The whole menu looked great, however before we even opened the menu we decided that some kind of loaded fries were needed. The cheese and bacon fries with BBQ sauce and mayo were picked ($10). M vetoed a burger for a sizzling fajita hot plate, never failing to go past anything Mexican in origin .... We had to doggy bag the fajita plate, as the amount of food on our table could have fed four people...! Great value and a very tasty meal.
Oh Burger Me
...I found this place (yep, I am going to claim it proudly) though my trawling of the Fatties Burger Appreciation Society page on Facebook (shouts to all the Fatties!). If you like burgers, you probably already know about that page and if you don’t know about it then take a good hard look at yourself, question how much you do love burgers and then look it up. Back to the burgers – The Hayberry is a cool little addition to the north end of town.

DELICIOUS. My husband and I love burgers and stumbled upon this place one spontaneous date night. We were impressed with the fast service and delicious food. I had the pulled pork burger and it's the best one I've had! My husband had the cheeseburger and it was equally as good. The only negative was that it was a bit loud for us, but it's got great atmosphere for a night out with friends.
Jules
Off to a great start!. Service was super friendly and everything we ordered was great. Cheese and bacon fries are huge. Waffle fries are nice and thick. Love that they do half pints for tap beers, and they charge exactly half the price of a pint!

Our only issue was that the burger buns were very dry. Hopefully this was just a one off! Also the booths near the entrance are really awkward to get in and out of (especially in a dress and heels) due to the fact that you literally have to climb onto them.
