Review Phuong Restaurant - Crows Nest

Had the Quail entree, Black bean Beef and Coconut Chicken...the black bean was amaZingly delicious! Good value size dishes for $20 a piece as well. Great spot!
Pretty Gouda
Lovely little spot - the staff are lovely but the service is a slow because they seem to preferentially seat people outside. But most importantly the food is delish!

I have to say this is the WORST & MOST REDICILIOUS dining experience we EVER HAD in a restaurant. My partner and I were craving some Vietnamese food tonight and ended up Googling the restaurant near us at Phuong Vietnamese Restaurant @ Crows Nest based on the review. The staff were friendly at the beginning and served the dishes quickly. We ordered Summer rolls ($7.5) and two bowls of Beef Noddle Soup ($16.5 each, total $40.50). The food was not too bad although not as authentic as how it is supposed to be. Then the ridiculous thing happened - When I was halfway eating my Noddle Soup, there was a dead INSECT found in the soup and I called the manager straight away to escalate it. When this guy saw the soup, without having a proper look, he immediately said "THIS IS A FRUIT FLY AND NOT OUR FAULT', and took the bowl with him in a hurry and walked into the kitchen WITHOUT A WORD AND WHISPERED WITH ONE OF THE FRONT STAFF. My partner and I sat there for 5 minutes and were thinking they might approach us for an apology and provide alternative suggestions/solutions. Disappointingly, NO ONE TURNED UP and we were upset and decided to leave and ask for the bill. The lady (waitress) then handed us the bill & charged us for the FULL AMOUNT!! We initially thought she was not clear about what happened and explained it to her. She seems very defensive and said 'YES BUT THE BOSS SAID YOU HAVE TO PAY FOR THE FULL BILL'. We were very confused and asked to speak to the manager/owner who we just spoke to and she told us 'THE OWNER IS IN THE KITCHEN AND HE WILL NOT COME OUT TO SEE YOU GUYS, THIS IS NOT OUR FAULT'. We found this is RIDICULOUS and insisted to have a conversation with the owner. However, he NEVER SHOWS UP and AVOIDING HAVING ANY CONVERSATION, not even a SORRY or explanation. We understand it is not easy to run a business and we were okay to pay the rest of the bill but not for THAT bowl of Noddle Soup WHICH has a DEAD INSECT BODY inside. The lady then ended up THREATENING US and said they will REPORT TO THE POLICE IF WE DON'T PAY THE FULL BILL!! We refused to pay for the soup that had the insect, and they waived the $16.5 reluctantly. The way we were treated as a customer was RUDE and UNPROFESSIONAL, and they took NO INITIATIVES AT ALL to settle this problem. As a customer, we NEVER had this sort of dining experience before. After the incident, WE WERE LEFT THERE UNATTENDED & THE OWNER/ MANAGER WENT INTO THE KITCHEN AND AVOIDED THE CONVERSATION. All we need was an apology and proactive communication. That's it! I am sorry to say but we will not come back again.

been here 3 weeks ago, we ordered Vietnamese chicken salad: the chicken was missing, cabbage didnt look or tasted fresh. Chicken satay sticks: dry and looked like deep or pan fried. Coconut drink was topped up with lots of syrup, water and ice... I would not recommend this place.

The food is good but is a bit too sweet, they need to go much easier on the sugar but otherwise nice. They do cater for GF but I do wish they would buy a cheap counter top fryer to do proper GF fried dishes. These small fryers would be paid off in months as they are very cheap. Also it is so annoying that they will not deliver to us despite being only 4km away. In my mind that is not even trying. Good food, shame bout the poor delivery,

An impromptu dinner plan brought us here, clearly popular with the the locals. Dishes were tasty, a bit on the saltier end and not entirely as authentic as I would like it to be. We enjoyed dinner nevertheless! Tq

Great family restaurant in Crows Nest with large outdoor dining area. This place has been here so long it's an institution! The food is all fresh and tasty with the special sizzling beef probably their signature dish. Everyone gets it. They are wonderful with kids. Plenty of highchairs and heaps of space outside for prams. Great for families and larger groups. BYO and very affordable. Recent reno has refreshed the interior decor but they have kept their iconic green chairs

Wow! One of of the worst Asian meals ever! The pork wonton should have been cased in pastry instead of wonton wrapper .. it was a bad sausage roll !! Yuk .. that was the highlight of the meal. Cheap food hall s….T

It’s very clear from our recent eating habits that Vietnamese food has played a larger than usual role. It’s become something of a go-to these days and with this in mind we headed out to Phuong in Crows Nest to sample their wares. They have a diverse menu and we decided, as we’ve done a bit recently, to have a meal entirely of starters.

one of the best vietnamese restaurants ever. the food was amazing with traditional vietnamese dishes and flavours especially the scallops in the seafood noodles and the crispy quail. would highly recommend:)

I love the food here. My favorite is the sweet and sour pork Vietnamese style and the steamed Dim sim for entree. All dishes are very good though and the menu hasn’t really changed since I started coming here 25 years ago. Highly recommended

A casual Vietnamese restaurant in Crows Nest. Old school style tables and table settings. A great range of menu items, we tried dim sum, spring rolls and salt and pepper calamari. All of these were great. For our mains we had sizzling beef, and Pho! Top food, came out quickly. Super busy place and considering there’s so many restaurants in the area, it is obviously popular with the locals.

Do you like celery leaves? They use it for a lot of dishes... am I supposed to eat these bitter & dried leaves?!

The staff were friendly and that was the only positive thing about this place. I didn’t feel and taste that Phuong was a Vietnamese restaurant. What they serve is Chinese food...their food was not so impressive.

We had recommended stuffed calamari with pork mince. The sauce didn’t go with the dish at all. Also we ordered Grilled Quaill. It was dry and it looked and tasted like they were sitting there for a while so dried up. Marinated King prawns tasted like sweet & sour pork sauce... I was hoping vietnamese vermicelli noodle salad was tasty but the dish had no sourness & freshness and flavours. Basically none of the dishes were great. It was disappointing experience!

When you look at the dates of other people’s reviews, they were very old so maybe they were used to be good but I think they are certainly not anymore...

Amazing and delicious good that remains as fantastic and reasonably priced as it did 20 years ago. There’s a reason it’s always booked out. Absolute faves are the sizzling dishes, chicken salad and crispy skin chicken. Have never had a bad dish here.

Delicious food and really good value, this has been my crows nest favourite for nearly twenty years. The sizzling dishes and chicken salad are the best dishes on the menu.

The saltiest restaurant I've ever been to ever. I eat Asian all the time and this place has got it so wrong. Wrong wrong wrong. If you are part of mgmt and read this please review what you put in ur recipes, salt content and food quality. If you had given this restaurant good reviews here, either you are paid to or you don't know what Viet food should be. We ordered spring rolls, stuffed chicken wing, chefs drumsticks, pho, sizzling beef, crispy chicken noodles, curry beef. Ever dish and meats were marinated with high salt content or msg and the sauces with more salt. When u think it wouldn't get saltier it did. Pho the worst in Sydney. No no no. Why why why. So sad. Maybe it's the byo that's kept ppl going back. Though the staff works hard and ensure things are in good order. Pity. I don't mind bad decor, but bad food is a definite no go back and highly not recommended. Black list forever.

Another regular on the Lower North Shore for my Boyfriend and I. Make sure you get a table on the street, inside can become alittle stuffy. Staff are extremely friendly and always up for a chat. We try to stick to the healthier options like the seafood hot pot, beef dishes with green veggies and seafood stir-fry. For entree a must try the chicken salad - chicken salad served on prawn crackers. Yum!

Best Vietnamese this side of chatswood. We love going to Chatswood for good Vietnamese but this restaurant is much closer to our house and really hits the spot. The decor is old school (all green) but hints that they put more effort into the food than redecorating, which is always a good thing. The food is great. Fresh and falvoursome. The pork and crab dim xim is amazing as is the vermicelli with grilled beef. Good service too.

A trendy Vietnamese restaurant called mamas boui has opened a couple of doors down but it is slow, overpriced and not nearly as tasty as Phoung!
Chris
Very average Beef Pho with service to match.

Our Favourite.. My husband and I have been there a number of times and it never disappoints. Delicious every time. If you can get past the bright colour scheme its definitely worth a visit. My favourite is the fresh spring rolls and sizzling beef. Service is always friendly and value for money, we always leave full and satisfied.

Only tried the cha gio (spring rolls) & pho. Cha gio was ok but the fish sauce was just sweet water & needs fresh chilli to make it pass as nuoc mam.
Pho was awful.. Dry over cooked beef!!! no option for rare beef, no Đắc biet (combination), no sate & no basil?!? Basil is essential!
Can't comment on the other food but won't be back.
Nice to hear it's been here since the 50's though.

Our favourite restaurant of all. I have been enjoying wonderful food at Phuongs for the past 30 years ... my husband and I eat there regularly ... whenever I catch up with friends we meet and eat at Phuongs ... it's the absolute best restaurant in Crows Nest. The food is deliciously fresh, the tastes superb, and the prices very reasonable ... they have a beer/wine list but it's also BYO (wine) if you prefer. It's important to book because the place fills up very quickly. They have air-conditioning inside and open-air tables outside. It's a family restaurant, and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. I cannot recommend this restaurant highly enough!! I give it 20 gold stars!!

If you're looking for a fancy setting, this isn't the Vietnamese restaurant for you. If you're after reasonably priced Vietnamese with friendly service in a laid back setting, then you've come to the right place. Food is always delicious. Highlights include the chicken salad and dumplings for entree and the sizzling beef and mixed seafood for mains. Some of the sauces are a little heavy but overall really tasty food.

Yeah its my restaurant
.......
I love Phuongs. I go to school with the daughter of the owners. Staff are always nice and welcoming for everybody. If u are having your birthday dinner there when u book just tell them and they will dim the lights and everybody in there will sing happy birthday to you.

Wrong Wrong Wrong Phuong. Just an awful let down. Cheap and nasty is the theme here. Decor is green with green and green. Ordered lemongrass chicken, crispy chicken, sizzling beef. All tasted like cabbage. Small servings to boot. Service matched the menu. Unimpressive and underwhelming. I ordinarily love Vietnamese but was wrong wrong, wrong, to go to Phuong. I've given it a big gong!

Great food at a great price. Wht is it that the best restaurants always have low key and inexpensive décor.
