Review Yakiniku Kashiwa - Crows Nest

Got recommended by a friend from Sydney so they're know which BBQ is the best. And this place wasn't disappointed us! Good quality of the meat and variety to choose from. The best one was Sirloin steak. If you have a chance to go to this place. You can't miss this one. When it cooked properly, it just melted in my mouth. Super super deliciuos! Atmosphere and service was nice and friendly too. Would love to go back again for sure.

One of the best Japanese BBQ in Sydney, good quality of meat, nice atmosphere, service was quick, ox tongue is the best in town. 🤤 Octopus karaage with Japanese beers, you will love it!! A bit pricey but worth it. Definitely come back!!

A really delicious yakiniku with authentic charcoal grill. The meat is juicy and tender. Whenever you go here, it's a must the signature tebasiki. The sauce of the chicken wing is so flavourful. Garlic marinated ox tongue its a must try, taste amazing when marinated with ox tongue. A great place to catch up with friends

Whenever we crave japanese bbq or yakiniku aka Jbbq, we always ended up driving half an hour go this establishment! Our reason is simple- this place serves the best meat for jbbq at it’s price point! Used to be a small jbbq joint and even cheaper, but now they expanded yet still pretty affordable, so it remained as one of our favourite jbbq spot. Best place to hangout and have amazing food! Make sure to book a table to avoid queueing forever on the weekends!

What an awesome place to spend a weekend dinner with friends and family. Great vibes (and smell) while the charcoal fuelled sizzling fire cooks up a wagyu storm. Booking essential.

Great yakuniku place. They expanded so there much more seating area. The meat is nice and very tasty. They use charcoal to grill so the flavour is very nice and smoky.

Only 2 sections for the dinner 6pm or 7:30pm . Booking is highly recommended. 90 min dining time, a bit rush and staffs started cleaned the table after 7pm. Quality meat!

one of the best Japanese bbq I’ve had in Sydney. A very lively bbq place with super great quality Japanese bbq! The meats were all really delicious and very tender. Going here really feels like you’ve been transported to Japan, with the environment and authentic Japanese grill. They have a super large menu and delicious selection of drinks, they don’t only serve bbq but also other side dishes like fried chicken. I would totally come back again!

The meat could only achieve the low requirement. The good one is the LA short rib which is special flavor. Others just normal. Especially the yukke. The previous one i had in paarramatta is the think one with unbelievable mouthfeel. But in this shop it's too rough so taste terrible. It's not worth 4.4. <br/>

Excellent cuts of meat! Must try ox tongue, diced rib cube & pork cheeks. Meats are marinated well. <br/>

Personally i think their ox tounge is the best in town. Its an explosion of umami. Love the wagyu beef and yukke too. The downside is place is small , poor ventilation and service is just soso . But price wise is still good compare to other japanese bbq.

Needless to say. This place had a change of ownership. I frequent this restaurant since 7 or 6 years ago. Kashiwa always had quality meat with incredible pricing. Most of all, it is charcoal grill. However, today’s experience changed everything. The price went up by 30% (understandable). But the portion shrank by half?! 3 out of 10 pieces of ox tongue I had, I had to spit it out. I am never coming back again.

Definitely the best Japanese BBQ in Sydney! Great price of high quality wagyu and great environment.
Made Like Mum's
One of my favourite restaurants in Crowie. Very casual so no need to dress up but the meats being served up at great quality and well seasoned. The flavour is umami rich and so so delicious. The DIY cooking is fun and you can cater to people's different tastes. BYO so feel free to load up with booze from home. Always a line up, it's very popular, service can be a bit hit and miss as its so hectic but I dont mind at all when the food is this good. Be sure to book ahead.

Always and will always be my go to BBQ restaurant. Meat selection is plenty and the taste has always been consistent. Downside is the small place and the always long queue time that bother you sometimes.

Staff here were great, thanks Taka for the great service. Great little Japanese BBQ place for Sydney and the prices weren't too painful. Everything was tasty and there is a BWS arou d the corner so you can BYO

Our go-to barbeque places. Meat is always well seasoned & fresh. The only thing that I don’t like is the smoke from BBQ is too thick as the place is too cramped. I prefer to have shower after the meal rather than before like I usually do 😂 Price is totally reasonable for what you get ❤️
The Hungry Hippo
One of the best Japanese bbqs I’ve ever had ! Good selection of meats and good service. Nice and cosy place, perfect for a winters dine. This is the 2nd time I’ve been here only cause it’s quite far but I do recommend it. <br/><br/>Must book if you want a dinner reservation but they also do lunch. Give it a go !

Affordable with a 5-star food quality. The wagyu is perfect. Satisfyingly thick but not hard to chew, and really juicy. I would suggest making a reservation before coming here though, because the place is quite small and can’t accommodate too many customers. I made a booking and came 20 minutes earlier, and it turned out that there’s an empty table so we were let in early. Totally will come back again!
Hungry For Chips
Smelt this place from a mile away and managed to snag a table for a short duration. The meats 🥩 were seasoned perfectly and the dishes came out straight away. I must admit I'm used to servers taking care of the BBQ and I take care of the eating part. As a result, I think every thing I ate was either slightly burnt, or completely burnt. Highlights: the smells! Lowlights: the smells! Lingered in our clothes and hair ages afterwards. Good thing I wasn't hungry or else I would have licked my own hair.<br/>

We ordered special wagyu beef and ox tongue. Special Wagyu beef ribs are absolutely yummy but the rest are just fine. Assorted vegetables lack assortedness. To be honest I'd prefer korean barbeque
Justin Woo
The best wagyu all over Sydney! For the price and quality of the food, it is the best, the beef is very juicy and tasty. We ordered the 3 selection set for lunch and choose ox tongue, pork neck, ribs and wagyu beef skirt. It also came with rice, miso soup and a small bowl of salad. The restaurant could improve its ventilation and the place is very small so I wish it to be bigger to fit more people and improve the atmosphere would be great. Overall will definitely come back for more wagyu and recommend it for its price!

Never had or tried traditional japanese cuisine before but was surprised to how great it was. The decor was authentic and the food came out really quick
Foodie
Came here based on my friend’s passionate recommendation and we left with full happy tummies.<br/>The beef here was so juicy! Do order all the wagyu cuts and the ox tongue.<br/>We also tried the yukke, which is the beef sashimi. I was a little apprehensive at first but if you’re a fan of sashimi in general, you’d be okay with the texture, it’s similar. Taste wise, the dressing it was coated in - sesame sauce I think - complemented the beef sashimi very well. No regrets ahaha.<br/>The large white rice is massive! 😂 you’d be able to share it among at least two to three people with a bowl omg.<br/>Not the cheapest place you can go to for yakiniku but the meat and sauce here is excellent.<br/>Tip: Remember to make a reservation otherwise you wont get a seat. And each reservation seems to only go for 1-1.5 hours, just come here and start cooking, don’t stop!
Excuse Me Waiter
We don’t explore our local area as often as we should on Friday nights as we’re usually out in the city somewhere, but we made an exception one Friday night to catch up for dinner at the ever-popular Kashiwa Yakiniku with a couple of friends who also live in our hood. This bustling Japanese BBQ joint is always packed when we drive past it on weekends and we’re not surprised when we find out how reasonably priced their wagyu beef is and why people are happy to share communal tables to roast that delicious marbled meat over a charcoal grill – even if that communal table is located out on the footpath next to a busy road.
Pieter
Excellent food and a great experience. The setting is intimate with share tables. The menu has a great selection of food to grill.<br/>Too bad they accept cash only, but it's BYO!
Jeremey Wong
The restaurant only serve alacarte (no buffet) and depends on what time you come, you may need to wait a bit. We waited about 50 minutes when we came on Saturday, slightly after 12 (they opened at 12).<br/><br/>I really love the meat there, very tender and juicy and they use charcoal, which add to the flavour. It's hard to find street parking but you can park at nearby Woolworths for 2 hours, free.<br/><br/>We ordered 2 plates of beef ribs, koiebi karage (prawn), cabbage salad, plate of ox tongue, 2 drinks, all add up to $76.<br/><br/>Highly recommended, you won't be disappointed.
Miso Hangry
This was my absolute favourite Japanese bbq eatery in Sydney. Despite the unfavourable conditions of the place and rude service, the food was always good and THE SAUCE... the sauce was so damn perfect, it complemented everything so well.<br/><br/>Around the end of 2017 they changed management. It’s still dirty, service is still rude, food is still good but sadly, the sauce isn’t the same, therefore the overall taste is just average. For the people who are new to this place, this sauce was like ‘When Harry Met Sally’ café scene type of goodness lol. So disappointing but oh well, I haven’t been back since and have no intention to.
Eunifoodie
This place is a very authentic and would definitely recommend this place for some authentic jbbq. However, they need better ventilation as the whole place was filled with smoke and was hard to even see the back of the restaurant when I entered because of the smoke. Would give it a 3.5 if it was possible on the app.
Ann
Meat is nice. But first of all, there is a limitation of 1 hour for dinning in, which is really not enough, considering it takes a lot of time to cook the meat with their bbq stove. Secondly, service is very average. Thirdly, some meat, like pork tube, the cut of the meat makes it hard to cook without burning it. Overall, not worth it.
Lavin.D
Same like all the time busy but no service ,1 hour limited for two people , just set and order already ask for last order , not enjoyable place .kind of rush rush rush ,and place close at 10pm but 8:45pm last order . What........
Podgybear
Very badly experience!!! Never met the waiter so rude like this!! After we entered the restaurant half an hour and the waiter told us we last order and another 10 minutes, he let us go and couldn’t eat anymore and ask us to take away what we left!!! And we even have 4 plates of meat!! We ask if we can finish and he told us this is not their responsible just because we ordered too much!!! Excuse me????? If he thought we ordered too much why didn’t tell us when we do the last order rather than let us go after 10 minutes we did the last order!!!! No one word sorry to us. Never will go there!!!! And also the sauce is not like before anymore, too salty. And the meat is not juicy as before.
Yiyu Chen
This restaurant has really bad service i have never seen. The manager is quite rude and waitresses show quite unhappy on their faces!! And it is quite smelly inside.
Yoshi
The most terrible service received!!!! We been advise only have 1 hour for dining. We thought we could finish in one hour because they offer this time, if customers can't finish in one hour, why they offer? <br/>Taken 15mins for the food deliver on the table. However, we found the fire was not strong enough and the pot is too small, the heat only applied to the central area of the pot, if we put the meat on the hem, it won't get heat. We only put up to 5 pieces, and it's need take 2-5 mins to get done, some like vegs may take more than 10 mins. 1 hour, we still left half dishes haven't finish, not because we are full, but it's too slow to cook!!! <br/>The staff throw the bill on the table and ask us to leave!!! When we told him we still have dishes haven't finish, he said:" it's because you order to MUCH!!!!!!." Can't believe he said that, why he not advised us when we ordered in the beginning. <br/>Why we asked he the table next still empty and no one sit, and the table behind just finish and ready to go, can't we finish our dishes? He said he mentioned only allow 1 hour then that's it. <br/><br/>The worst service that received ever! We are here to consume, and they were happy when we order that much, but never says whether we can finish within 1 hour. Once we can't finish, just ask leave, and blame us by the reason order too much!!!!!!<br/>

Fav place for jbbq, meat is great quality and ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS 😫💦👅 can’t get enough of this place!<br/>I recommend everything, especially the ox tongue, all the beef 🐄 cuts (try the steak), the shroom mix 🍄 , and the tofu salad 🥗 <br/>Make sure to give them a call to book your table in advance as this place is popping and there can be up to a 1 hour wait.
Famishedduo
A great location with outdoor and indoor seating. <br/>This is one of our favourite Japanese BBQ restaurants, the meat is fresh that’s high quality. <br/>The prices are reasonable, and you can have a great feed here. They do get busy so they usually only allow a 90 Min reservation, however we found that was plenty of time to eat and even order a second round.
Finleyhimawan
Best Japanese yakiniku I’ve had so far! I don’t even know where to start. Perhaps some of you have already known that there’s a time limit (45 min) to the seating as you can probably understand that they’re such a busy restaurant for a small place. But don’t discount it because of the timing, I don’t normally eat for hours anyway so it doesn’t bother me. The food on another hand though... there are only two of us and we were going to try a few so we started off with special wagyu beef ribs, wagyu beef skirt, pork cheek and ox tongue for the meat and for sides we ordered the rice, namul and cabbage. We were so full but the meat is too tasty to be passed on so we ordered another round of the wagyu beef ribs and ox tongue! Stuffed after the meat galore for the night but my oh my I’d so do it all over again!
Tiffany
When we walked up we were asked if we could be finished eating within 45 minutes which I assume because they had some reservations which was fine no big deal. We placed our order and they were very fast getting our food out. Now for the reason for the low rating... About half way through our meal there was a roach crawling across the wall. I ignored it, but kept my eyes open. Another minute or two passes and another roach on the wall right next to us. At this point I was ready to leave, but then the third roach crawled on my arm and I literally RAN out. The food we ate tasted good, however the roaches were a turn off and I left still hungry.

Probably my favourite spot in syd. Although the venue is small, the ground is somewhat sticky, and the ventilation is so poor that I fear for the workers’ safety, I find myself coming back again and again.<br/><br/>I would say the meat quality is much better than average in Sydney, and definitely better than anything you'll get at any yakiniku buffet. With the recent mass import of Kagoshima wagyu into several restaurants on the Sydney scene, you’ll find higher marbled meat elsewhere (although I’m personally not sold by Kagoshima). Of course these come at a much higher price. So in terms of a pure, simple yakiniku that won’t leave your wallet empty, kashiwa is the best. The special short rib, ox tongue, miso pork neck are the go-tos here.<br/><br/>Make sure to book beforehand, and expect to wait 10-15 mins even with a booking. Don't worry - the food talks even if the service doesn't.

This place was so popular place to eat bbq amongst my friends so I decided to pay a visit. The place is quite accessible since it is quite close to train station but still I need to take a couple of minutes walk to get to this place. Tips from me is to come a bit earlier than the opening hours/lunch or dinner time as this place can get quite busy and you might not get any seat since the place have a limited number of seats.

Best wagyu we’ve ever had in Sydney! The beef is so juicy and tender, way beyond my expectations! Ever since last year me and my partner came back from Japan, we’ve been looking for yummy wagyu beef in Sydney. The one we had tonight is definitely the truly Japanese wagyu at its best. Affordable too. Strongly recommend!
Amanda Lim
Real Wagyu. Over charcoal. Oh gosh. <br/><br/>The best bbq I've had so far in Sydney. We made a reservation and still had to wait 20mins.<br/><br/>The quality of the meat exceeds expectations. The beef tataki was a delicious accompaniment to the main meal. The service is swift, the atmosphere is packed full of meat lovers. <br/><br/>Between 5 people, the bill only came to $32 per person, we left feeling stuffed. Would be keen to come back and would definitely recommend if you don't mind the wait.

I know my wagyu, because I export them to rest of the world. <br/><br/>This is one of the very few restaurants in Sydney actually use real wagyu. All the Korean restaurants/bbq you go to.......they don’t serve wagyu, it might say that on the menu don’t believe them. It’s at best 150 days grain fed standard cattle. <br/><br/>If I ever want wagyu I would always come here, however, most the time I just have it at home. <br/><br/>If you go try to get a table outside, inside ventilation is not great......you’ll end up smell like bbq wagyu.
Elvye
1.We arrived and we couldn't get in because there's a lot of boxes and like a bin blocking the doorway which I reckon it's dangerous as it is a grilled bbq resto. <br/>2.Ventilation is very poor so be prepared to have a shower after attending this restaurant. <br/>3. Toilet was filthy and smelt of stale faeces. <br/>4. You need to pay cash only and I couldn't understand why they are charging their bbq mesh $2 on the bill. <br/>5. The staff was rude asking as our last order as we are only allowed to stay for an hour.<br/><br/>But I admit the food was very nice and fresh.<br/>Nice seafood and lovely marinated meats.<br/><br/>If they had a nicer venue my score would be much higher.
Looneybabe
I've been here twice now and although the food is not bad, I do wonder how they are still operating with the conditions in here! The cockroach on the wall was off-putting and don't get me started on the toilets...I could smell them from a metre away. This place has customers coming out of their a** yet there is little care in terms of hygiene. It's a sad state of affairs when business owners stop paying attention to these things because you know - 'they are making enough money' and it doesn't matter because people will keep coming. Don't get me wrong, the food is great but the environment and hygiene is disappointing. Not sure if I'll be back purely because of these reasons. Tips: don't wear anything that is hard to wash e.g.: "dry-clean only". The lack of ventilation means the bbq smoke will permeate your skin! Secondly - if you're not a fan of disgusting stinky toilets halfway through your meal, hold it. I give this place a 3 for the food!
Rina
The worst service ever!! They provide very nice food and the worst service. All of staffs have no smile(grumpy face all the time) and waiting system is stupid. Even we had a reservation, they let us wait long outside and took some unbooked customers who came later than us. We didn't ask for the bill as we were still eating but the staff came and put the bill on our table. We felt we had to rush eating our food and felt like they wanted us to leave quickly. Do not recommend as their level of service is terrible. We didn't expect this kind of service from a Japanese restaurant with Japanese staffs.
Sienna
The food is so salty here and the customer service here is so bad. If you are booking only, you should have told those who didn't make bookings that you will only take all the bookings instead of telling people to wait 15mins and then 30mins and another 30mins in the cold with such a bad and unprofessional attitude! After being waiting for so long and you told me 'it's up to you to wait or leave!'?? Really? This is the way how you treat your customers??? This is the most worst experience I've ever had for dinning out!
Jess Roberts
Very rude staff. Stared at us, and literally mean starred! The whole service. Like scowling! It was weird and uncomfortable. Food OK, very smoky even when only half full like our visit. Bill also racks up quickly for a place that *should* be cheap and cheerful.
Vanessa Tan-Quek
Quite a good yakitori place, a tad expensive for portion size, and quite a small, smoky place, so be prepared to smell funky after. Also serves a lot of interesting innards and unusual stuff.
Feixing.ts.13
Worst experience ever, waited an hour in the cold and then was told to come back in other hour. You don't treat you customers like that.<br/><br/>They need to work out a better system. Just because you are popular doesn't mean you can treat people anyway you like.
Helen
Food there was actually very good. One of the best Jap yakiniku restaurants! Oxtongue is a must. <br/>However the service there isnt as pleasant as the food. I would also recommend to book beforehand.
Wu Jingjing
Messy and smoky environment... they just don't care how dirty their food container and look at that dirty wall...loose my appetite when I arrived there for the first time. About their food, it's not as good as my friend told me, I even can't remember what I had... racist service... I had a good impression before I went, but after that I don't want waste my money there anymore.
Rsq1
Food is good, meat is nice, portions are not that big but price per portion is lower than most. <br/>Although rice portion is quite small I'd say. <br/>It may get pricey if you order a lot of sides e.g. Mushrooms, corn etc. <br/>They could probably try improve ventilation inside because it's pretty bad.
David
That's my favorite Japanese BBQ in Sydney. I think I been there many times for few years already. Their wagyu beef is very high quality and charge on a reasonable price. And also the ox tongue is very nice and soft too. I prefer go this place more than the buffet style yakiniku.
Gracyatiphone
28/8-- just made it before their last order time, lucky ... food as yummy as usual....we did BYO and tried their new menu waygu finger steak...very full...enjoyed !!<br/><br/>One of my favourite restaurant when I think of bring "meat lover" friends for dinner!<br/><br/>They meat are all with high quality and the best thing is that they allowed BYO. Usually we make reservation, park our car then walk to BWS across the road, have everything ready, then we enjoy our excellent meat n drinks!<br/><br/>One point to remind, 90 mins only

Kashiwa Yakiniku was a recommendation from some friends and it did not disappoint.<br/><br/>Located right across from Woolies in Crows Nest, this small Japanese barbecue restaurant has dishes that will surely satisfy your tastebuds. We ordered the ox tongue, special wagyu beef rib, LA short rib, pork neck in miso, and wagyu beef skirt. For sides we ordered, assorted mushrooms, sunrise lettuce, agedashi tofu and caramelised sweet potato. Everything we ordered was delicious (perhaps except the tofu - was a bit on the salty side). Especially the wagyu meats - cook it just right, and it melts in the mouth. It was out of this world. That's a lot coming from me considering I had Kobe beef just a couple of months ago. That aside the, pork neck in miso definitely comes second to the wagyu - the tastes of the miso marinate really comes out when grilled. The complements of the lettuce, mushrooms and sweet potato just adds to the great dining experience.<br/><br/>The overall score of 4/5 though is the long wait for a table despite making a booking, cleanliness of the restaurant and the seating. The restaurant is extremely popular, and the difficulty knowing how long people take to cook and eat their meals are very variable - this what I think caused the long wait. We booked our table for 7.15pm and only got a seat by 7.50pm. Being able to book, I think, sets up an expectation to be seated at that time. They should either get rid of their booking system and just allow walk-ins or find another solution. The place could do with a good spring cleaning and more storage as a lot of their ingredients and other stock were all over the place. They also need to improve the it seating arrangement and amount of seating - especially seeing how popular they are.<br/><br/>Kashiwa Yakiniku, despite the wait, was very VERY worthwhile. I would honestly go back again and again and wait in line just to have their food again. My criticisms are just in hopes for them to make improvements that could attract even more customers. Definitely check this place out!
Say Michael Wibowo
Me and my partner booked a table for 8:30, we came and being told that we booked the table for 8:15 pm. So the waiter asked us to wait outside for 5 minutes before we're being seated . There was only 1 waitress to serve whole restaurant, resulting 5 minutes waving our hands in the air. The foods came out quite fast and delicious. One stupid lesson that we've learned is that this restaurant isn't going to allow you to bring your own drinks except alcohol or they'll charge you $3/drink/person (trust me, the waitress will keep her eyes on you like criminal in case you ever touch your own drinks again!)
Matahariken3
Food was still good although meat wasn't as tender as before. The main issue is that it's such a cramped space and service is bad. We waited 30 mins even after we already booked the place. No one greeted us for 10 mins when we were there even though we deliberately already entered the restaurant and stand in front of them. Disappointed with the overall experience this time.
KitCath
Superb! The wagyu is the best... but the waiting list really bad.. takes too long even we already booked the place<br/>Overall everything is nice.. yukke also superb!!!
AmateurFoodie
Fresh meat that hits you with an explosion of umami! The ox tongue here is by far the best I have ever tried, it's soft and juicy unlike other places where it tends to be chewy and dry. Side dishes are mediocre however.

|Casual Japanese BBQ| ★★<br/><br/>2019 updated review<br/>Usually my go to casual Japanese BBQ however latest visit was a disappointment. <br/><br/>There were heaps of cockroach and the food quality has severely gone down. The only edible meat is probably just the wagyu beef. <br/><br/>If you book this restaurant you also expected to wait. I booked last time and waited for 1 hours+. Then they hurried us as they were about to close. <br/><br/>———-<br/>Past Review<br/>Must Try: Wagyu Beef Ribs and Beef Tongue<br/>Super tender and juicy beef. <br/>Not very comfortable seats and ambience. <br/>Service is horrible especially with the queue management. Those Who Love To Eat
This Yakiniku is a popular little joint in Crows Nest and has been around for many years, a true testament to whether the place is good or not. The decor is very understated both inside and out, and quite smoky inside, due to the nature of this restaurant. <br/>If you are a massive meat lover, this place is for you! We were a party of three and ordered 8 various types of meat and all sorts of interesting things like: chicken giblets, ox tongue, chicken cartilage, beef heart, beef tripe just to name a few. <br/>We came close to closing time, so we couldn't order as we went, head to order a while bunch in one go. <br/>Here is what we ordered: wagyu beef ribs, beef cheeks, chicken heart, Arabiki pork sausages, pork cheeks, ox tongue, pork rib, pork neck, and a side dish of tofu to some how compensate for all that meat eating. Somehow, it didn't work! <br/>We also ordered 3 bowls of small rice to accompany all the meats. <br/>I thoroughly enjoyed this meal, not just for the food but out gets everybody involved in the meal. Plus, there is something satisfying about cooking your own meat and eating it. It's a really sociable way of eating.

I went here last Saturday, i queue for more than 30mins.<br/>The place is very small.<br/>I have tried their lunch special, ordered wagyu beef ribs,LA Short ribs, chicken cartillage,King prawn.<br/>Highly recommended the Wagyu Beef Ribs, the rest are alright.<br/>If i come again,i will just buy their whole plate of Wagyu Beef Ribs, tender, juicy and tasty!
Irene Wu
They don't open lunch! They don't open lunch! They dont open lunch! The information is wrong in Zomato and google map! And they never answer their phone while we tried to phone them for lunch time information at dinner time. And they also have a very very very bad service!
Genevieve
My partner is Japanese and he says this is the most authentic yakiniku restaurant he has visited outside of Japan. <br/><br/>We ordered the ox tongue, wagyu beef skirt, pork sausage, bibimbap bowl, and also the sweet potato with caramel sauce. <br/><br/>The meats were all succulent and juicy, special shoutout to the wagyu beef skirt. The bibimbap bowl was absolutely awesome, perhaps not the most Japanese dish for me to order but it was delicious nonetheless. Lovely and flavourful with a huge kick. The sweet potato had an incredible flavour, however it was a little overcooked for my liking. Had it been a tiny bit softer, I would have been in heaven. <br/><br/>A lot of people here seem to complain about the service in this restaurant but honestly, we had no issues. The staff were friendly and attentive. Perhaps this was because my partner did all our ordering in Japanese... 😂 <br/><br/>The restaurant is a little cramped and can get very smoky but sometimes the best food is found in unassuming places. <br/><br/>10/10, will be back.

Full disclosure:my friend works here. Ordered the pork sausage, gyoza, assorted seasonal vegetables, pork sausage, wagyu beef rib, wagyu beef skirt, pork rib, pork tube, beef tripe, special yukke, Soba. The wagyu beef rib was our absolute favorite, we must have ordered it 4 times! The gyoza was excellent too. Soba was great and filling too. I'm not a fan of intestines or raw beef so didn't particularly like the yukke and pork tube, but that can be a personal preference. The rest of the mean was pretty good . This place does one thing right , the food . If you notice the sign board it has this guy who is red and has tears in his eyes , that's what you get for the ambience, you will be sweaty, teary and sharing tables. But one thing that will not complain is your tongue . This is not a date place .
Wendy
Very average Japanese bbq joint. The place was small and crowded. We ordered beef rib, pork cheek, sausage and seaweed salad. They gave us the bill after an hour at the restaurant even though there were empty tables even though it's a 90 min session.
David Wang
We made a booking one week in advance, showed up on time but there were no tables available. I told the waiter we had a booking, he replied ok, and then proceeded to ignore me. They don't care that you have made a booking or not, they just serve whoever comes through the door. It would have been a 1 star but I gave it 2 stars as the food was good, but what is the point of taking bookings if you're not going to honor them?
Micku
Love this Japanese BBQ place. Always packed and busy during nights and a booking is advised. The meat is very tender and juicy. Can be smoky at times when cooking the meat, as expected of a BBQ grill but definitely worth a visit if your in the area.

Nice little Japanese barbeque restaurant in Crow Nest. The food is good especially the Wagyu Beef Skirt, Ox Tongue and Chicken Cartilage. Delicious food but the cleanliness could be better.

Amazing yakiniku for a good price! Was brought here by my cousin and I absolutely fell in love with the food. It's a small restaurant in Crows Nest and not fancy at all. Sometimes the best food is found in unassuming places. <br/><br/>Orders arrive within a couple of minutes. How's that for service? The meats are super fresh and well marinated. Definitely one of the better ones that I've had in Australia. They have a variety of offals which are pretty hard to find these days. From pork intestines to liver and heart. Meat selection is good as well. <br/><br/>This place is always extremely busy so bookings are essential. Also please be on time if not the many people waiting outside will get your seat. I think that's pretty fair. No respect for people who show up 30 mins late for a reservation.
Lee Li
Very doggy staff! Lied to us that the next table was available and then we realized they just hold us while waiting for the people who made books to show up. Also, they totally denied that they said the next table was available. Waste us more than half an hour waiting on the street!
Zuuuzuuu
Same experience with Lia, I booked for a week before, I arrived on time I need to wait another 30mins standing there, and the awful staff gave seats to other waiting queue customers because those customers were large people of group, I booked for outdoor table clearly, and I confirmed with them before arrive 20mins about seat availability and they answered positive. And No apology at all. Specially the staff with beard short guy, the manager must deal with his attitude toward customers and I don't think his English skill is good enough for serving English spoken customers. I asked him about booking system they have, and he doesn't understand what is booking system. As Lia said,(for me it's worse) no reason to book in advance.<br/>Booking a week before-> confirm call by customer(not by restaurant)->no seat avail be -> wait for 30mins standing there?->finally got no seat, they give a seat other waiting queue customers because they're just large group. And I'm Fluent Japanese speaker I visited tons of Japanese yakiniku restaurant in Sydney. This store is very similar to Koh-ya yakiniku restaurant. Similar price , similar menu but better customer service. No reason to visit this restaurant. Doesn't matter their taste good, their service and booking system is so terrible. Simply not worth it. Spend more wisely. There are so many other Good service Japanese yakiniku restaurants in Sydney.

What a really unorganised place. We made booking and requested to sit outside but they re still putting us inside even we have tried to say that we have requested outside and want to move as soon as possible when the table outside leave but nobody care about our enquiry. Not recommend if you need somewhere you're looking for what you ask for!!!!!
Fat Journey
Cheap and Good Wagyu Beef Yakiniku I've ever had in Sydney. For less than $20 you can get a good Wagyu Jou Karubi, it's quite small place and you have to make a reservation or else "queuing". The waiters work fast enough but, they're a bit "寒い" 😂<br/><br/>Well overall it's a recommended place

So my long review got deleted for some reason so I had to retype this, hence the lateness of the review. <br/><br/>Came here with the partner and his family as we heard good things about it. Never had Japanese BBQ before so I was willing to try it out. We booked but when we arrived we still had to wait, so what's the point of booking? That was kind of annoying. <br/><br/>The food was good I'll definitely give it that. The meats all tasted great, with lots of flavour and cut nice and thin so they cooked quickly. I definitely recommend the wagyu beef and the short ribs. They all came out quickly so we never had to wait too long for the next dish. Probably one of the better tasting BBQ places I've been to, and the prices weren't too bad. Cash only though, so be prepared.<br/><br/>However, there's a few downsides. The restaurant was pretty cramped and squished, with boxes just stacked everywhere. It felt really unorganised and kind of dirty as well. There was no proper ventilation so smoke filled the whole place and stuck to my clothes which was really unpleasant. There was a water cooler which dropped everywhere, with no actual water in it. The service was... Brusque. <br/><br/>Overall, good food and fairly affordable, but the restaurant is a mess. Is it all worth it for the food? I'm still deciding. <br/><br/>

Amazing dining experience on authentic coal fire. Pick your favourite meats and vegetables (get a large mushroom) and enjoy the Yukhoe (raw beef with egg yolk) as well.
Sugarheart Co.
I love this Yakiniku place! It's traditional and authentic with the use of charcoal and its selection of offal. The marinades are delicious and the service is fast. It does get a little smokey - so it's probably not romantic date ambiance but sometimes you just want to get down and dirty and have a good Japanese BBQ! The lunch times specials are especially well priced but overall the menu is reasonably priced. I recommend the Wagyu Beef Rib - my favourite everytime! The yukke is good too.

Awful service.<br/>Food may be good and cheap, but you're treated like rubbish here so it's not worth it.<br/>Been coming here since it first opened and it's sad to see how it's deteriorated.<br/>It used to be a very friendly restaurant but in the last two-three years they probably got sick of people.

Food was good but really unimpressed with the service. After our meat arrived (about 10mins arrived we arrived) we were told it was time for the last order, and although we were surprised we ordered more as it was our last chance. Before we were even finished the waiters were trying to take our plates away. We were there for about an hr and got given the bill while eating and then they asked us to leave. It would have been okay if we were given notice before sitting down but there was none whatsoever.
Eric Pickens
The dinning experience was extremely negative , we booked a table outside because we ever being there before knowing inside is very smoky and since we go with two little kids whom not comfortable to the smoke, however when we arrived on our booking time, there is was no table for us at all, waitress was not polite and asked us to wait until the customers who sat on that table to be finished, talked to an old lady whom seem to be the manager which is very rude as well, told me either I need to wait or I can leave. This restaurant has no service at all, would definitely not recommend to anyone.

In my family, celebrating, departures, and arrivals means eating a meal out. My stepfather was leaving to return to Myanmar in a couple of days, so we had a non-stop eating marathon for about a week. Kashiwa Yakiniku had been recommended to me by a Japanese friend, as an authentic Japanese BBQ that served torisashi (raw chicken), and other unusual cuts of meat.
Tim D Gourmet Hunter
The waiter rejected me impolitely because I came by myself. At that time there was no queue and there were some spots.<br/>So disappointing. Never ever a Japanese restaurant did that to me before.
Cecilia
I admit it! This place would be the best Yakiniku restaurant in Sydney!! Really love how the flavour is, especially for wagyu beef rib, ox tongue, pork neck and Yukke!!! Been here before and yet still be the best one! Highly recommended for one that craving Japanese BBQ!!!❤️
Laura Higgins
Worst customer service ever. Wasnt told there was a time limit - got kicked out after 1.5 hours. People who came before us were still allowed to stay. Werent informed of cash only and when stated that we didnt know, staff went ahead and slapped the sign on the glass door - agressively. <br/>One guy was super friendly and clearly felt embarrassed about his other staff members.
Ebonyandlace
Hands down the best Yakiniku in Sydney. <br/><br/>Try the recommended - wagyu beef rib, pork neck, ox tongue. <br/><br/>The others simply cannot compare in terms of variety and flavour they get into the meat. Price point is excellent too, though they do have a 1.5 hour limit like other all-you-can-eats (this one isn't but it always ends up being cheaper and more delicious anyway). Have converted friends and family now and we can't go back to the others like Suminoya, Kohya, Rengaya, etc. <br/><br/>Only downside is the line gets packed (so book). If you're late your table will be given away if you don't call. Its also not pram/baby friendly. It can get really stuffy and not well ventilated so be prepared to wear daggy clothes and wash your hair twice after.

Had lunch here and enjoyed the food. I'm used to street food and the suspect hygiene standards at such places. The hygiene practices of this place is similarly reminiscent. Overflowing waste bins and flies greeted us and being unfortunately placed in the corner we had full view of what was happening behind the kitchen counter. Raw meet boxes on the floor being stepped over by the cook who was wearing thongs. We even saw him drop a piece of meat on the floor and quickly picking it up and shoving it into the fridge. Would I return again? Not really very sure

Consistent with other reviews, great food and good value. Really due for a good clean out or renovation, nothing has changed since it opened years ago. I come here for the great meal, will be back. Dinner for two for $75

接客は酷すぎます!!!WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE I've ever experienced!! We made a reservation but were made to WAIT 30 MINUTES out the front, and when we went in, the staff were VERY RUDE. We were NOT clearly informed that this place is CASH ONLY and that there is a MINIMUM OF $26 PER PERSON - which is RIDICULOUS. So were almost full and then were asked to ORDER MORE? We could never eat this much. We were also CHARGED for the HOT PLATE we used?! It's like asking people to pay for disposable chopsticks! We were told that if we didn't pay $26 per person, we would BE CHARGED ANYWAY. We still refused to pay the amount after the rude service we had received, and had the bill thrust in our face and our water taken away from us in the most aggressive manner. WILL NEVER GO BACK.
Shiying41
This. place. is. life. changing. <br/><br/>When you go to this place, forget about the service or the fact that the smoke extractors can't quite do the one thing that they are designed to do (although I reckon the service is quite alright), and focus on the meat. The meat is what this place is about. Quality, taste and more importantly, the flame grilled smokiness that the grill brings. <br/><br/>You know its the real deal when they use charcoal. <br/><br/>Get the Ox tongue, wagyu beef ribs, LA beef skirt and make sure to try both the miso and soy marinades (I prefer soy). I do not know what is in their marinade, but it really keeps me coming back for more. And more. And more. You will most definitely leave the restaurant smoky and smiling. <br/><br/>Verdict: Order till you explode.

As a local I love my Japanese. This is the worst experience I have had. The food was basic and for $64 I left hungry. If you go make sure you sit outside as it is extremely hot inside. The final straw was the water bottles on top of the garbage bins in the kitchen. My wife went to pay and was told to go across the road as it is cash only. We were not informed of this clause not the "required" minimum spend of $26 per person. Yes it's minimum $52 for two people but no we don't take card. Loads of better options including waqu across the road <br/>

Their Ox tongue is so damn good that I promise you'll never regret of ordering it cause it taste different than the ox tongue provided by other restaurant. Their ox tongue is so chewy! And the marinated wagyu beef is highly recommended as well! The only problem is your shirt/coat will smell like hell after enjoying a wonderful dinner here so try not to wear new clothes that you cherish a lot or bring a plastic bag with u to put your coat in while you're eating. Will definitely going back!!
David Ji
Great authentic Japanese BBQ within the heart of Sydney which is definitely hard to come by! Their beef is truly top notch for the price you are paying, and their signature soy marinade for the meat is utterly delectable!<br/>Only downside is the extremely small area you are limited to while eating and should be limited to smaller groups!
VaLval Permana
Wagyu beef ribs, ox tongue, pork rib are the best. Unfortunately the service super sucks. They tried to squeezed us into a super small table. Make sure u make reservation for the weekend, otherwise good luck then!

Both A and I opted for the 4-selection lunch time special yakiniku set. For $19.50, we each got to pick 4 items from the list of meat/seafood/assorted vegetables. Not bad at all! In fact, the value of the lunch special was fantastic. The set also came with a bowl of rice, a miso soup and a small salad. The portion of the meat and seafood was generous and was more than enough for two people. The meat quality was good and it was very nicely seasoned with just enough saltiness to bring out the original flavours of the meat.

Overall I like all the beef in here.. really taste good.. I never eat yakiniku beef as good as this one.. Really recommended place to visit..

Their fire is just right, so it cooks fast so you don’t have to wait for your meat.

After a morning in the mountains, Mr Trout and I went to see Salmon Fishing in the Yemen, then on to Crows Nest for some meaty goodness. Kashiwa is a busy place, and despite making a booking for 8:00pm, we weren't seated by about quarter past. Time to get cooking!  Errr...I didn't really do much of it, Mr Trout seemed happy to man the bbq.  There are a few interesting dishes on the menu, I thought I'd take a risk and try Korikori Zuke which translates to 'Fish Innards'. Korikori Zuke (Fish Innards) and Sunny Lettuce I'm not sure what constitutes fish innards, perhaps the intestines. Anyhoo, they were pickled and didn't taste fishy at all.  The Sunny Lettuce was for us to wrap our meat in. Pig Womb Okay, so I admit the name sounds rather unappetising, but I was curious, so decided to give it a go.  It had been marinated in a strong miso sauce.  I'd say it was okay, but I probably wouldn't order again. It had quite a strong 'meat' odour, despite the miso marinade. Scallops  Scallops were

although there are of course cooked items on the menu to be enjoyed, but rather the quality of the produce, the marinades and sauces used, and the service.

What is everyone complaining about?. I go here all the time - the food is great and the value is top. I have not had a problem with the service ever. Yes seats may be cramped and you may feel compelled to finish in time, but the only reason this is because the place is so popular that people keep coming. If the place was empty then I would be concerned. Yes the staff may not be all smiles with clean haircuts and the kitchen is open and you can see the chefs in there who have blood on their clothes and look like butchers, but this is a real dining experience. Please I recommend that you not be put off by these negative and alarmist reviews and try this place for yourself. There is nothing else like it in Sydney, it truly is a piece of Japan. If you want sanguine service and obsequious smiles, head down the road to McDonalds...
Kittybluesong
Best wagyu!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. If you want first class service this is not your place to go. But they have the best wagyu!!!!!!! I could eat there everyday. And the price....so cheap comparing to other places!!
Denissa Hady
The food is good but the service is really bad and unprofessional. I waited for approx 2 hrs and the table we reserved was given to other people
Jyoikenn
Noooo. Meat is delicious. price is also quite good. <br/>However, service is the worst. <br/>They forgot the Japanese heart. <br/>Once, it should return to Japan and should learn it again. <br/>I never go.

Best yakiniku ever. Just love it love it love it!!!! Don't mind the service or time limit. So far the best yakiniku I've ever had, and it's recomanded by a Japanese friend.

Food is good but I will never go again.<br/>After just 45 minutes, the waitress told us it's our last chance to order. Last I checked we're allowed 90 minutes...?<br/>We were in the middle of our meal, with plates of meat yet to be cooked, but we knew we wanted dessert later- since we were forced to place all orders right then, we ordered our ice cream. It came out in 2 seconds. I had to actually explain to them that we would actually prefer the ice cream AFTER eating the meat. They looked shocked and reluctantly took the ice cream back.<br/>The staff are extremely unfriendly (especially the owners? man behind the counter plus wife?) and the whole experience on all 3 occasions that we visited was 'hurry up and eat and get out; we just want your money.'<br/>The part-time staff can be nice but they seem to be afraid of the man behind the counter and clearly do not enjoy their job. <br/>I refuse to eat there again on principle.
Matthew Deng
The worst yakiniku experience in sydney ever . Had dinner with my friends of 6 there on Saturday night. All of us were sitting in a tiny table ( 1m x 1m ) with full of dishes and bowls . We were limited to finish every within 90mins. That was NOT a buffet ! ! We ordered every single plate and share a such small table staff kept pushing us to finish within time limit . Ridiculous rule .

For those who are angry. Look guys/gals/high class eaters, if you want cheap good quality wagyu, this is the place, you come here to eat.<br/><br/>if you want good quality wagyu and good quality service, goto rengaya.<br/><br/>this kind of restaurant is the type that have rules and style, they are not designed for you to make yourself feel like you are the king/queen. <br/><br/>well, yes i don't mind if their rules and services can be a bit more humane and nicer, but for the $9.90 special wagyu short rib...I don't really mind everything else... <br/><br/>in terms of booking... just be smart, the best head numbers are 2, 3, 4, and 9.<br/><br/>Any other numbers will get ur self squashed, especially 8.<br/><br/>in terms of booking hours, don't come at peak hour, either book at 6:30, 7, or 9.<br/><br/>yes, its cash only, so bring some cash! accepting credit cards will probably bring the price up.<br/><br/>and yes it has minimum spending, well this is not fine dining, people are lining up and waiting to go hard on MEAT, so don't sit there and not eat anything, taking up people's spot. if you want fine dining, goto marques or becasse or tetsuya or something....

Went here on Saturday noon, got the lunch time special. great value. taste fantastic. I specially love the ox tongue.

Worst dining experience. I had the worst dining experience at this restaurant in my life. I cannot agree more with the previous review - "it was the worst dining experience I have had, not just in Sydney, but globally."<br/><br/>When I contacted the restaurant at 5pm on a Saturday to make a reservation, I was told that if I arrived by 5:30pm I would have 60 mins to finish the meal, as it had been booked out for the rest of the night. <br/><br/>My partner and I arrived there on time. They did not give us any side dishes on arrival, while everyone else was served with them. Apart from beef ribs, food was tasteless with no unique dish that distinguishes them from other restaurants. When we ordered another dish after 25 mins, they refused that we continued eating and forced us to leave the restaurant because other customers were coming in 5 mins. <br/><br/>As I did not know that they did not have an EFTPOS machine, I had to take cash out from an ATM, which took about 10 mins because this was the 1st time I was in Crows Nest and was unable to find one quickly. While my partner was waiting for me to come back to pay, a woman accused him of being a thief, based on the fact that he went outside to make a phone call to check if I was okay. She asked him to give her his ID and continued insisting that we were runners, when he was only waiting for me and standing outside of the restaurant. I am a medical professional who earns a decent amount of salary. <br/><br/>I spoke to the manager of the restaurant about their accusation. He was indifferent and provided us with no apology. <br/><br/>The woman added a surcharge for no reason. I could not be bothered to ask her about it, given the delusional accusations she had made. We also did not see anyone sitting on the table where we ate the dinner after they forced us to leave. I am very surprised that Japanese people deliver such a poor quality of service.
Caesar6668
Poor service dodgy place. We will NEVER go here. We will NEVER RECOMMEND this to any people we know. Very DODGY place.<br/><br/>Just went back from there half an hour ago with my wife for dinner. The meat is tasty, but bowl of soup my wife ordered seems dirty, some awful stuff sticky on the side of the bowl. Disgusting! The service is really really poor, they will keep pushing you to finish your dinner in time. They will keep telling u you have 20 minutes, 15 minutes left for your dinner and you have to be asked to leave as there will be other people to take your table. The very funny thing is after they tell me I only have 10 minutes left for having dinner now, they delivered another dish which I ordered 30 minutes ago. And when I request to return this cold dish because I do not have enough time to have them, the male Japanese Chief refused by saying "It is common sense after a dish has been prepared you cannot return it. ", and when I explain to him you guys are pushing us to finish dinner in time, but deliver our orders in the last 10 minutes, he keep talking "This dish needs more time, and next time if you don't know what is that, don't order". <br/><br/>All right, I do know what we ordered, but I really don't know you need 30 minutes and more time to just prepare a dish of blooding cold beef. <br/><br/>Very very Dodgy, I never met such a dodgy place in Australia.<br/><br/>Not recommended. Plus the price of each dish is around 10 dollar, but when u pay for the whole bill, it will about 80 dollars for two people. I would prefer paying more money in some other places without someone counting down your dinner time by your ear.
Restaurantlover
Worst service. I have never felt so compelled to write a review but tonight's experience made us particularly angry and other people considering this restaurant should know. My family has been to this restaurant many times since it opened a few years ago. We had always had trouble with the fact that they would squeeze numbers of customers into one small table. Tonight started first with us put into an awfully cramped seat. Then an Asian lady started screaming at the top of her lungs for some reason (it was hard to understand her words in her hysteria). The worst of it all was that the waitresses nor the owners of the restaurant were able to stop any of it - I should say they did not really make any effort at all. They took no responsibilities for the disruption caused and did not even apologise to the whole lot of customers. We will NEVER go there again. I would NOT RECOMMEND ANYONE to this restaurant after tonight. Even if the food is of good quality, it is only worth eating when the service is up to scratch to deal with rude customers that come in.
Mochizmo
Fresh, good quality tasty and good value. We had 2 of the 4 item lunch sets, that included rice and miso. All food was fresh and very high quality. Prawns and scallops were large. Pork neck marinated well and full of flavour. Price is very reasonable.
Xu Han
Like the food there. Very tasty and traditional like in Japan. The place is a bit squeezing but like most of popular japanese BBQ. We booked and arrived on time so no issues around this. The whole atmosphere is quite Japanese. So if u really enjoy jp food and culture that should be perfect.
Vern Harn Hue
Great food with unfortunately standoff-ish service. I live in North Sydney so I've frequent this place pretty often.<br/>Food is excellent. <br/>Yakiniku is a very fun and interactive dining and great with friends and family. <br/>It takes almost no time for them to bring out the stove and the cuts of meat but you will need to call and book in advance as it does get busy on most nights. Service can be rude and abrupt and please read on for my latest experience. <br/><br/>However, after being a patron for the past 1.5 years, I was shocked when the waitress came up to me to tell me that there is a minimum $22 order per-person. We were not very hungry that evening and got two serves of beef and a serving of chicken along with two bowls of rice which amounted to around $36. Despite being there many time and ordering the same amount of food, the waitress was adamant that it has been an old practice and referred us to a obscure page in the menu stating that fact. <br/>We were really polite pleading our case but she just walked off mid sentence and said we needed to hit the $22 mark. <br/>I ordered a take-away just to fulfill the order and never again will I go there.
Kim Stam
Great food and really cheap. We paid $55 for 2 people. We ordered 3 different meats, mixed veggies, dumplings and 2 small bowls of rice. Absolutely delicious!!! The place was really busy for Wednesday night and the waitress told us there was 1,5 hour dinner limit. Highly recommend and will definitely eat there again

Delicious food! Let down by ventilation. As with all BBQ places, the air is tight and suffocating. This goes for Yakiniku as well.<br/>A few items to die for include the Special Wagyu Beef Rib (tender & perfect) and the tofu salad. The tofu salad blends tofu and wakemame perfectly. <br/>The special soy sauce is quite beautiful too, it's not too salty but rather there's a sweet and sour taste. <br/><br/>If you value atmosphere, the restaurant is well decorated and very authemtic, but as mentioned before it's not very easy to breathe in. There is a ventilation system but it does not seem to work very well. <br/><br/>Overall, certainly a BBQ joint worth checking out with a couple of mates.
Chin
Horrible experience, terrible service, poor ventilated venue, have to share table with other people, can only pay cash, all of all, not a good place for eating out.
Dr J
Horrible experience. I ate here recently and have to say it was the worst dining experience I have had, not just in Sydney, but globally. The service at this place is nothing short of a joke, a review before sums this up pretty nicely when they were asked to leave after being seated. We were pretty much kicked out while we were still cooking the food, as well as the bill being slapped on our table and repeatedly told to go and our time was running out. I could not give a stronger recommendation not to go to this dump unless you want the worst service, poor ambience, bask in everyone elses smoke from the bbq cooker and overall if you want to experience the worst dining experience to date the yes, you should go. Otherwise don't waste your time or your money on this joke of an establishment, they are working in the hospitality industry, they should be ashamed.
Fuyugaki
Bad service. I have been this restaurant at the end of the last year. Arrived a bit earlier than the booked time. We were not allowed to sit and wait for friends even a table was booked for us and no one was sitting there. After waiting outside for 10 mins, we were finally allowed to sit at the table. We were told 1.5 hour limit because of the busy period. They were not so well organized and we had to wait BBQ grill and meat for a while. We asked glasses for drink, but never been brought to the table. Inside of the restaurant was full of smoke because the fun didn't work well. 20mins to the time limit, the staff started taking away plates that still got a bit of meat and vegi without asking us. Moreover, almost full bottle of beer had been taken while I was away for the toilet! Unbelievable! The staff was not friendly at all. (Are we talking about the same restaurant??) They looked like Japanese backpackers who does not know about service. The taste of the meat was ok but a bit too much marinate sauce for some dishes. Could not tell if the meat was fresh or not. It wasn't cheap at all. I won't go back to this restaurant! There are plenty of better places to go.
Cathy
Great food, great service! Friendly staff. The food was amazing! The staff was so kind and friendly. I will come back again !!!
Katie Sho
Great food, poor ventilation, horrendous service. If I ever come back to this smoke-infused restaurant, it would be on a weeknight when I know that it won't be too busy. My friends and I had the most ridiculous experience here. My friend booked for a table at 6:15. After calling to tell them we'd be running late, to which they responded amicably, we arrived at 6:20 but was told that we could only be seated when everyone on our table had arrived. There were no available tables anyway. When everyone had arrived, we went inside to tell them but were ushered outside again because there were no available tables. All 8 of us were finally seated at one end of a table around one stove at 7pm (40min waiting time). It took them 5 minutes to notice us to take our orders. Our food came promptly (no water for the table yet). There were 8 of us eating off one stove because they said we could take the other half of the table once the other customers left. They left at 7:20. When they left, it took another 10 minutes and constant reminders until they could clear the table and let us sit there. They needed further reminders to give us another stove and take our second order (still no water for the table). By this time it was 7:30. At 7:35, we wanted to order one last lot of food and the lady boss came and refused to take our order. She said that we couldn't order more food because she needed the table for a 7:45 booking and we wouldn't be able to finish the food in time. We pointed out that we had 8 people sitting around one stove for over half an hour. She argued back that we were late so it was our fault, regardless, there was no way she would take our order and give us more food. We were getting kicked out despite our booking and no clearly stated eating time limit. They had the bill on our table before we had even finished eating and only gave us water after the lady had refused to give us food. We had to ask for glasses after the waitress put the water on the table. Overall, the food was great, wide variety, good portions and fresh, but the service was very below par. They really shouldn't take bookings if they don't intend to stick to them and if there is a limited eating time, it should be clearly communicated to customers. I don't actually think there is a limited eating time; it was just poor management. The ventilation also needs a lot to be desired. We were tearing up within 20 minutes of sitting in the restaurant. Bad management through and through. If you insist on going, only go in small groups or pairs and only on weeknights when it won't be so busy. Their 1 waitress and boss lady really cannot handle a large crowd and they're not afraid to refuse you food; who cares if you're not even half full. Bookings also take no priority. Good luck!

Was great value for money. Have unusual things to try as well as your usual Japanese BBQ favorites. Gets a bit smokey because the exhaust isn't quite strong enough so wear something you don't mind having a smokey smell!
Mrs F
I have been here several times and I am yet to have the sardine roe! Always keep getting told that it's sold out. I find that hard to believe at 6:30pm. Anywho, apart from that I just love the food here - LA beef skirt, pork ribs, agedashi tofu, tskune, tuna salad, ox tongue - I am yet to have something that's a miss. Service is neither here nor there but I don't really mind - its a BBQ joint, it is, what it is.

Beautiful authentic yakiniku. Feel like to be in Japan... We will definitely go back.

Poor Management. I had a very bad experience there. Me and my friend walked in without booking, on friday night @6.50pm, waited for a while, before we were given a seat. However, 5 minutes later, while we were still looking thru the menu, the female boss came over and told me that we have to give up this seat to someone who had made a booking @6.30pm and they had just arrived. She also told us that the place is now fully occupied, and tell us to come back at 8pm.<br/><br/>This is the first time I had came across such a incident. In my opinion, I would think the staff should tell the other party to come back at 8pm instead of asking us to stand up and leave, even though they made a reservation, but they were 25 minutes late!!!<br/><br/>Poor management by the female boss.<br/><br/>I will never go back there again, no matter how gd the food is.
