Review La Baguette - Crows Nest

Keith Hong
Really awful service despite good pastries. Rude owner. We had takeaway coffee from a different place but decided to stop by LB for some solid food. We paid nearly $20 for two small baguettes. It was dry at best. Eat in we said When I asked for some butter 🧈 cos it was so dry, it took 3 people on a conference chat before offering me $2 for a non-gourmet butter. Half way through our breakfast, the owner came to us and said 'you are not welcome here if you bring coffee from elsewhere '. No signs that explained that. Her condescending approach was shocking. Seems like my experience is not isolated. I.support local businesses and I have bought a lot of bread from them before. No more.

Some good products but doesn't make it up for the rude/non-existent customer service. If you like to feel unwelcome and ignored this is the place to be! It honestly feels like you are walking in a different time zone. I've been there 5 times over the years and it hasn't changed at all. You'd think that the owner of the business would look at the reviews and do something about it... But NOOOO...! You are better of giving your money to a business that wants you there. To the owner: IF YOU CANNOT RUN A BUSINESS IN A WAY THAT RESPECTS THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE IT EXIST, THEN DON'T.

The croissants we had were stale and not warmed before serving. The service is not good. The coffee was good. But pastries and things to eat are limited, pricey and not worth it. There are few better cafes down the road which have better service and cheaper prices. I won't eat here again.

The French baguettes roll is to die for and really good coffee the pre-made sandwiches and rolls a very nice they have great desserts. It does get busy here and not a lot of seating. The staff are nice but not super friendly. Can be tiff to get a car park .

Cake and Tart was very nice, so good😊

Very rude staff, barely speaking English and staring at you akwardly. The almond croissant I ordered didn't seem fresh at all, probably brought in frozen and micro-waved just before opening the shop. I won't come back.

The goats cheese quiche was very tasty! Shame they close so early, no surprise Kurtosh up the road has become the local favorite because they are open till late. If this place were open till late too would be great. Better service as well wouldn't hurt. Kind of weird vibe.

Nice staff, non pretentious. There's a small selection, it is expensive for French pastries. It's nice and airy though.

Very popular with Crowie locals and people who work in the area. The line up the get a coffee in the mornings is down the street! Great French style bread (definitely the best in the area) and lovely cakes and pastries. They also have takeaway sandwiches and rolls at lunchtime which are very good. No highchairs but space to roll in with the pram.

Small patisserie with the steady steam of people coming in & out on busy Saturday morning. Luckily I was able to nab a table to enjoy a couple of coffees & some pastries. My mix of small pastries were all great, choc croissant, plain croissant & strawberry danish, all had crispy pastries. Not too buttery, but just enough to not be dried. The coffees were good too.

Boulangerrie has been around for sometime, yet i dont remember hvg stepped foot inside. They never seem to be empty each time i walked past though, must be quite popular with the locals. As the name implies, you'll find all sorts of pastries, croissants n cakes. They also offer some gluten free cakes. I grabbed an opera this time, was attended to quickly with a smile. Way better service than st malo bakery down the road n cheaper too.

All the pastry and cakes are awesome! Coffee is decent. It's a shame they don't accept cards...seriously it's 21-st century, you have to accept cards!

Coffee is consistently of good quality.
Service can often be quite unpleasant; partly because of the staff's non-native English but mostly due to the attitude. If the staff can show a little more care to customers then I can see this place becoming a very comfortable place.

Returned for a coffee run. They use Campos beans but I wasn't a fan of this blend which was sourish. The coffee was also served too hot which may have affected the flavour. We also shared a very rich and dense brownie, far too sweet for my preference.
---Previous review---
I've only had cakes from La Baguette, the Opera and the Success. Both were very rich and dense. The Opera was the sweeter of the two, with a hazelnut and chocolate profile while the Success was a sinful creation of thick ganache sandwiching layers of chocolate cake. The cakes are probably not as refined as those from Lindt or La Renaissance but still delicious.
