We CANNOT get over how awesome this place is. All the staff are super friendly, highly responsive and will let you know if there is a bit of a wait (for food, as you sit down). Beautiful matcha lattes (you add your own sugar however sweet you like it), and sensational pour over coffees. The new menu is a delight- tonkatsu chicken brioche is a winner but the star that steals the show is the soufflé omelette. The osso bucco melts in your mouth and the duck is beautifully cooked - presentation also beautiful. Great blend of Japanese and European food- fantastic technique. What a gem of a place!

Great food (had the karaage chicken burger & the salad with the candied sweet potato), top class service & the coffee & matcha latte were both top class. To top it off, the pricing is also really competitive. Would recommend to anyone I know.
The coffee, smiling service and food is the best .... I had a smoked salmon, cream cheese and rocket sandwich for breakfast.... I will be ordering that again. The muesli with grape juice is delicious .... thank you Quinton, Sam and Jun..
Yum! Great food. Great price. Great customer service. PlUS colourful tables outside and let us have our puppy on a leash outside with us. Best breakfast I have found in crows nest. Highly recommend
Amazing mocha, they have a darker (and not the sickenly sweet) mocha variety and it tastes heavenly. Will definitely come back for more! Also the staff are so sweet and so attentive, I heart them all. Will recommend to all the friends. Also thank you for having complimentary sparkling water, what an amazing place.
As good as the breakfast special is, the real highlight is the 5 star service. These guys are as hungry to please as i am hungry for their quality bacon and egg roll. 2017 the year of double cross espresso.
Amazing breakfast! We went all over Crows Nest trying to find a nice place for Brunch, and stumbled across this amazing place. The service was immaculate and friendly and the cafe was bright and vibrant. Plus the food was great!
My favorite place for coffee, food, and a bit of a laugh. They know how to take care of their customers
Love it here, whenever we go out for breakie or lunch this is our 'go to', great food & drinks, great service and great location :)
Best cafe in Crow's Nest. Food, coffee and ambiance the best there is
Amazing coffee and food! Definitely worth going!
Best crab croquettes ever!! Great coffee, great breakfast options and lovely friendly service!
Excellent coffee; I had the souffle omlette and it was nice and fluffy, simply on point if you like light and clean flavours then this is the place to be. Will definitely be back for more.
Brilliant new cafe in crows nest serving great coffee and exquisite lighter style breakfast and lunch. Try the tiramisu, it's amazing!
Amazing!!! Wonderfull food and implacable stuff!!!!
Thanks so much guys was a placer today having breakfast with you!!!

Super friendly service, delicious food, and great coffee. What more can you ask for? Oh yes, it's really affordable as well!
The chicken burger was absolutely incredible... And awesome services, i also love the hot coco in here....i would love to come back many times though.
Came here this morning for breakfast! Had the bircher museli and it was DELICIOUS! it was also my boyfriends birthday and they gave him a free coffee and cake! Great customer service- so friendly :) will definitely be back
This is a small and humble cafe with super friendly staff. I really enjoyed the matcha mousse- super rich in matcha flavour and not too sweet. The tamago tonkatsu sando was good but the tonkatsu was too tough.
In my humble opinion Double Cross do one of the best breakfasts in Crowie. They do the classics with an Asian twist eg chicken karaage Benedict. Kid friendly and heaps of outdoor tables to park the pram or tie up the dog. I don't drink coffee but hubby does and he says it's very good here.
Pros:
- Good service
- Creative menu (Asian fusion)
- The asparagus egg dish had good flavour
Cons:
- Uses milklab almond milk (this is a personal preference thing - I always like Almond Breeze better)
- Pasta dish tasted a bit fishy
It was a lovely place for breakfast in Crows nest, tasty food and great coffee. The tonkatsu sandwich is nice and simple, would love to come back again some time.
Best brekkie spot in Crows Nest. Delicious food and great coffee. The service amazing, just super friendly and really accommodating. Great for families. Our toddler loves it here as much as we do.
Double Cross impressed me! I ordered the chicken karaage benedict with the 63° egg. It was unique and yummy. The hollandaise sauce on both meals was tangy and delicious. The coffee was superb and I even grabbed a takeaway latte after breakfast. Can't wait to try the rest of their menu!
Great cafe in the local area. I used to love its chai latte that was served in a little pot but it's recently changed. The photo is their mentaiko pasta. Flavourful pasta and decent portion. Presented very beautifully too. Staff are friendly and nice. Definitely a nice breakfast/brunch spot if those in the area!
Had the bacon and egg roll and was good. Also had the above and Halloumi and again it was made to perfection. Couldn't fault anything with regard to the food. Busy and nice. Very helpful service.
Actual rating: 3.5
Double Cross Espresso is an awesome cafe in the heart of Crows Nest with some interesting twist on standard brunch dishes.
We noticed the karaage benedict being delivered to quite a few tables so that's obviously a popular option. However I decided to try the crab souffle this round and was definitely happy with my choice. This was lighter, less eggy and less dense than a classic French souffle. The cloudlike egg is pretty bland on its own; the magic happens when you dig deep to get a spoonful of crab, soy broth and egg. Delicious. I also enjoyed piling the fillings onto the sourdough slices.
My friend ordered the tamago sandwich, a Japanese omelette between slices of sweet brioche and gave it the thumbs up as well. It's on the smaller side but is perfect when you want a lighter snack. She also liked the ice coffee.
Great service with friendly staff and free sparkling water! If there was one thing I could suggest though, is if the ventilation was improved as the smell can really stick on your clothes if you sit inside.
I've come here for coffee multiple times and it's so consistent! I've had mochas, hot chocolates and lattes from here and they've all been great. Also, their nutella cookies are to die for!
Came here for brunch on a Sunday. Beautiful food - I ordered the asparagus egg, my friends ordered chicken kaarage, and avocado halloumi. Great service, staff are super friendly and helpful. Recommend/10. :)
Hands down, one of the best cafes in Crows Nest. The staff make an incredible effort to know their customers. Their coffee is fantastic, and their menu is truly unique, inventive, well-curated and top quality. I work in the area, and completely slept on this cafe for a while...don't make the same mistake!
No matter what other people say abt this place, I give them 5/5. I ordered duck breast, they gave me a fine dinning quality dish( taste/ presentation). Their staff was friendly and it was a really good experience.
Double Cross Espresso is a Crows Nest cafe serving Edition Coffee with an Asian-fusion menu. We came here for brunch on a Saturday morning, keen to try out their creative and unique dishes. For our drinks, we ordered the taro latte served hot and hojicha latte served cold. These were both delicious, I liked how the taro flavour was not strong, but rather light and milky.
Eggs Benedict was amazing!! Prepared in such a way that no other cafè in Sydney seems to be able to accomplish.
The bread is so thick yet soft which works well with the well cooked poached egg 😍.
Most importantly has a well sized portion to fill one up !!!
We were in Crows Nest and looking for a cafe with hot savoury food and outdoor seating as we had our dog with us when we came across this cafe. I had actually driven past it multiple times without realising and now I wish I knew earlier!
The fluffy egg soufflé was so light and airy- I think this is the only place I've had this type of egg and I love it. The pork katsu sandwich also comes with Japanese style egg omelette in soft white bread. My only complaint about this is that it's too small! I was sharing with my bf and didn't want to hand over the other half! The millecrepe cakes are quite popular nowadays & they also have a few flavours available on the day I went. I decided to order the taro and really enjoyed it. I would definitely revisit and recommend the dishes I tried!
It's hard to stand out in a busy street of cafes & eateries, particularly for breakfast, but Double Cross stood out because it was packed with people, super friendly service, lots of menu options & varieties, and all round good vibes. The creme brulee French Toast was great with the crunchy brûlée top. Great balance of sweet from the mascarpone custard & tartness from the berry compote, no ice cream was needed. Could've just hang out there with a coffee for half a day if I did the time.
A little gem in Crows Nest and one of my fav go to for local brunch / breakfast. The menu is traditional with an Asian inventive twist - full of the familiar yet surprisingly yummy and different. The staff is super friendly and attentive so it's always an enjoyable experience. Can't wait to come back again and try everything on the menu.
Friendly staff, great baristas and always a quality coffee.
Coffee ordered:
I have only had a dessert here once which was awesome - tiramisu. But mainly I drink the coffee. Usually filter or espresso. Always delicious and often a new origin to try.
Ambience:
The team here are always smiling and seem quick to catch a new customer. Never a long wait for coffee or a table.
Great local space for coffee and food. Definitely recommend.
Tonkatsu omelette in brioche bread is one of the best sandwiches I've ever had. Went there a second time and ordered a Matcha Mille crepe, nice and smooth, not too sweet, so good with some freshly brewed latte! It has now become one of my favourite cafes

Ventured out to check this cafe on my fren's recommendation today. It's a nice little spot located at Willoughby road, crows nest alongside other eateries.
The menu seems to be an amalgamation of different cuisine styles like Japanese,Italian, as well as Aussie. I ordered the tonkatsu tomago sandwich and it was quite lovely. I just wished that it was a little bigger in size lol.
The coffee was terrific. They use beans from edition coffee roasters. The coffee had a bite and cuts through the milk nicely. I also tried the brazilian single origin as 3/4 flat white. It was mellow and had the chocolaty undertone.
Had a brief chat with the co-owner Quinton and barista Zin. They seem to be very nice and welcoming. Highly recommended!!
Double Cross is a warm and welcoming cafe in the middle of crows nest. The BAE (bacon arvo eggs) roll is delicious and fresh.
They know their coffee and make a delicious batch brew. The best thing about this cafe is the staff, who are friendly, helpful and fast.
We’re always up for a bit of good fusion and when we heard a new Japanese-Italian cafe had opened up in our hood we just had to check it out. It’s name is Double Cross Espresso Bar and is a bright, airy cafe with clean lines running throughout its modern interior and has some interesting outdoor seating options too for those who like the sidewalk vibes and don’t mind sitting on the floor.
We stopped by for a quick coffee on a hot day. The staff were very friendly and attentive. We got an iced latte and hot mocha, and they were both great! For the atmosphere alone we give it 5 stars. Food menu also looks great with some pretty interesting combinations. Great little cafe.
Fusion can be a tricky situation and I am not even talking about nuclear physics. The recently opened Double Cross Espresso Bar has been making waves in Crows Nest with fantastic coffee and a menu offering Japanese/Italian influenced dishes...

Adding to the bumper to bumper cafe food jam on Willoughby Road is Double Cross Espresso Bar, an eatery with a modern twist on your brekky staples. NO more eating your standard stainless steel from the stapler...! Classic. These guys are smashing coffee from Edition Coffee Roasters and certainly do a great job at it!
Double Cross Espresso in the heart of Crows Nest is a café serving up great coffee and top notch brunch choices. The sell 63 degree eggs, sandwiches, bircher, muesli, burgers and more. On this occasion, a group of us tried a range of the meals including the Avocado Haloumi which was 63 degree eggs sitting atop sourdough toast, smashed avocado, tomato and haloumi. We also tried the salad: roots and greens. It was a bowl of greens with candied sweet potato, lotus root, broad beans, ricotta and house dressing – a lovely combination of flavours and beautifully presented. The chia bowl was also colourful and filling – it had coconut, chia and fruits. The group also tried some lunch items like the famed Mentaiko pasta. This pasta, combined with spicy fish roe, a 63 degree egg, chives and crème fraiche is certainly a popular and interesting dish at this café. A couple of burgers rounded off the meal: the chicken karage and a beef rib burger too, accompanied by some nicely fried chips. The coffee here is also great; I had a cold brew and the others had lattes and smoothies. If you’re after some new menu choices, combined with a Japanese influence – be sure to check this out. Lovely owners too.

This place does good coffee.
Really good; one of the best in Crows Nest.
The staff are very pleasant too.
Cannot wait to try their food on menu.
In short: A great addition to Willoughby Road with outstanding cafe fare and an infusion of Japanese flavours. Coffee is excellent.
Coming into work on a Monday morning is bad enough but imagine when you open your email and find you are being relocated as well. The disappointment was compounded as I quickly did a mental lookup of great coffee in St Leonards. The results returned a big fat zero! St Leonards is an enigma in that it’s a bustling corporate area filled with cafes, yet the quality of coffee is of middling quality. Decent, but nothing outstanding. I would like to tell you I began tirelessly searching for great coffee in the area, but actually, it was an instagram post from Choclatesuze that piqued my curiosity. I walked to Crows Nest and to Double Cross Espresso Bar to audition their coffee. After a week of drinking their flat whites, the cafe had become my new local. I had been saved! While not quite in St Leonards, it was a healthy 10 minute walk from my new office location.

It takes a lot to be able to convince Noods to make the trek across the Bridge but just the mention of Mentaiko Pasta ($16) and he grabbed the car keys quick smart and off we went to Double Cross Espresso Bar in Crows Nest. Mentaiko is made by brining and seasoning fresh pollack (or cod roe) and is something we’d fallen in love with in Japan and have been obsessively searching for ever since. I took great joy in stabbing the gooey 63˚C egg and letting its golden innards run freely, coating each strand of pasta. There’s also a dollop of creme fraiche and mixing everything together created one creamylicious pasta that is right up there in my top 5 pastas in Sydney.
Cozy environment (absolutely somewhere different to chill and relax), Love the idea of minimalism, attentive and bubbly staff, great food , coffee was okay but could be better
This cafe will go far. The fusion of Italian/ French and Japanese food is AMAZING. You will experience foodgasm that's totally different and will kick your taste buds into action.
What did we order?
- Mentaiko pasta with poached egg ( I LOVE IT!! JUST LOVE IT! It makes me salivate just thinking about it. Some people might find it fishy though. Oh well, I guess it's one of those dish, you either hate it or fall in love with it)
- It's unusual (salmon confit , poached egg, homemade hollandise) It was unbelievably soft and tender, it literally flakes and melt in your mouth!
- Matcha tiramisu (Hmmm, it was good in general but a bit too sweet for my palate and unfortunately I can barely taste matcha)
It's quite a handsome looking cafe, clean and neat. This coffee shop is very popular in the neighbourhood, lots of people come here for a cuppa in the morning.
Its environment is very comfy to say, it's a open shop front with outdoor seating area, honesty saying morning and welcome to this hidden corner.
This is one of those cafes that make you seriously question other 5-star ratings you’ve given.
I was really worried that they had closed down but was super relieved to know they had just moved to a bigger space around the corner.
Quality coffee and a great menu. Their Mentaiko Pasta is comfort food at its best. It’s really hard to order anything else!
These guys take their coffee, service and food seriously, and that’s why we keep going back for more!
Outrageously good. Filter/ batch coffee was on point and the amazing food just blew me away. Influenced by Japanese and Korean ingredients and flavours while seemlessly intertrading into Anglo style dishes has been done very well. I had the savoury porridge with an added egg. Was so beautiful with subtle Japanese flavours, was not heavy, just extremely well balanced as Japanese cuisine is and should be. Fully licensed, this would be a great place for a lunch and a glass of wine. The interior is light, spacious Japanese/ Scandinavian style. Very simplistic, clean and open.
Will be going back again and again to try everything on the menu.
Spacious, airy, contemp cafe with a chill relaxing vibe. Staff are friendly, service is prompt. Menu is interesting with some Asian twist. Kid enjoyed the Hojicha milkshake. All the food we ordered are delicious. Highlight being the Mentaiko Pasta and KFC.
Great little cafe on Crows Nest main shopping street. Definitely on of our favourite spots in a very competitive area for brunch food. They also take their coffee seriously those so inclined. My go to is the friend chicken Benedict but other items on the menu are great as well. Overall it’s an Asian fusion brunch spot which hits all the required notes
If you're after some more unique dishes than the usual hotcakes, benedict, granola or b&e, give this a go. Fantastic Asian inspired flavour combinations and quick friendly service.
Delicious food and friendly service! Oat latte was perfection and the prawn burger was delicious (although could have used a bit of sauce.) KFC (Korean Fried Chicken) was crispy outside and juicy inside and "Unusual eggs on toast" was a visual feast. Love the lao gan ma sauce to accent some of the mains!
