Review Hot Chilli Thai Restaurant - Croydon

Vivienne Wylie
We've eaten in for a couple of family occasions, but are regulars here for take away. Food is good and they have good gluten free options. I am not coeliac (I am wheat gluten intolerant, with a small degree of tolerance), but have heard from coeliacs that this place is good. Just make sure you let them know you need gluten free. My favourites here: - Panang curry - Chicken with lemongrass - Yellow lamb curry That yellow curry is absolutely to die for. It can be hard to get through on the phone some times and they don't always have someone available for delivery. You can try leaving a message on the phone or just call again a few minutes later, or just drop in. The food doesn't take long to cook. It's worth the wait.

The food is nice here, but it's not traditional Thai. The salads had sweet chili sauce and were more sweet than traditionally spicy. I'd class this as westernised Thai, which I'm sure will suit many palates but wasn't for us. The pad thai and nasi goreng we're nice. We had a new waitress when we went who struggled a little but did ok (we had to ask for our roti at the end as it never came)

Pathetic customer service. The customer service lady rolled the eyes when i asked it wasn’t a take away but dine in instead. She was not polite. Can never visit the restaurant again with such poor service.

Authentic flavors Thai cuisines. Good service with fair price.

Great food! Everything super tasty and fresh. Staff friendly. Great value and seems like lots of people coming and going for take away food.

Great food ! Never disappointed. Loved dining in but have been getting take out of late … still great quality

Pineapple Fried Rice is a must try. This is so far my favorite Thai restaurant in the area.

The food is alright, not that great. Not very consistent as it tastes good one time and bad the next time. Moreover the people at the counter are not friendly. They seem to show discrimination with customers. I remember the lady in front of me was given a proper takeaway bag and I was offered nothing. They asked me to take it in hand with the food being soo hot. Then I had to ask and they made a big fuss but eventually I got a cover to take the food home. There was a big stone in the fried rice which they reacted very casually when I immediately told them over the phone. So am very unhappy with their service.

Excellent Thai food!! I placed a delivery order and everything was truly perfect. From the excellent customer service over the phone, delicious food and extremely prompt delivery.
I ordered the roti with peanut sauce, vegetarian curry puffs, veg pad Thai and pad cashew nut stir fry. The food was incredibly delicious, fresh and came piping hot. I’ve travelled both nationally and internationally and had lots of Thai food over the years and this is by far THE BEST peanut sauce I’ve had.
Good job Hot Chilli Croydon on the incredible service.

Seriously best thai in the area! The chicken spring rolls, pad puk and thai basil stirfry are the household favourites. Always consistent and reliable. Staff are also very friendly. Highly recommend!

Food is amazing, have been for lunch before but dinner (takeaway) was even better. We've been to Thailand and this is the real deal. Best Thai in Melbourne as far as we're concerned (which is awesome cos they're close 🙂)

This place used to be our ‘go to’ for local Thai but they have gone downhill. Delivery times of 1.5 to 2 hours is just unacceptable. Often they get the order wrong and it takes forever to get it redelivered. Stir fries have become a bit bland and noodles very greasy. Used to be a regular here and we have given it a lot of chances but enough is enough. It’s too bad they have lost a valuable customer, we order from lemon tree thai instead.

This place is a hidden gem in Croydon. They offer a wide range of delicious, authentic thai food which even the little ones can enjoy. My family and I will definitely be back!
The food here is always fresh, full of flavours and generous. My family and I have come here for at least 7 years and we are always loving the place. Thank you for being awesome! 👌🏼 highly recommended for Thai goodness!

We thought we would check this place out after others had stated that is was a trustworthy, classic, expected Thai. Credit to those persons who decorated the venue, as it is done tastefully and professionally. We ordered the crispy pork, prawn curry, coconut and plain rices and roti bread. Roti was lovely and on point. However mains were very disappointing. The prawn curry was more like a sweet dessert that lacked any kind of flavour to be honest. The coconut rice was way too sweet and mushy. The crispy pork was good but lacked flavour or punch. We won't be returning again but wish this business continued success.

Hot Chilli is located in a small shopping strip along Maroondah Highway, Croydon, and offers the usual Thai fare. On this occasion I ordered takeaway - vegetable spring rolls, Pad Thai (noodles with vegetables), and roti with satay sauce - and these were quite good. The decor comprises some earthy ochre-like hues of yellow and red-brown along the walls, with a tree silhouette on one side and a framed Thai tapestry on the other. The floor is tiled, except for a long carpet strip along the walkway, and the settings consist of chunky wooden chairs, and formally laid tables with red-brown table cloths. It is a pleasant and appealing dining space, though the Abba's best hits playing in the background was a little incongruous. No matter. The service was welcoming, and with a smile, as well as being efficient, so I would certainly consider returning to dine in.

Great service, beautiful traditional Thai, recommend the Thai Green Curry, plenty of vegetables and flavour. The coconut rice was also amazing!

I will never order from here again!!
My partner ordered a Thai for me and my cousin via my menu log account. When the guy dropped it off he left without taking any payment so I assumed that my partner had paid for it online. By the time my food was delivered my partner was already in bed asleep so we're completely unaware that there was any money owed.
The next morning I have woken up to numerous missed calls (as my phone was on silent) and text messages saying that I still owed $42 and if I didn't reply soon that they were going to call the police!
What shocking customer service!! This was not my mistake but yet they left me feeling like I was some sort of thief!! Beyond rude and shocking behavior!

Food is always delicious. Their curry puffs are perfectly made crispy and super flavoursome. The beef in their massaman curry is always soft & tender.

Unfortunately my previous 4.5 rating is now down to just a 2.
Delivery has been late by between 10 - 40min the last 4 times we've ordered. Last night was the final straw. The est. delivery was for 55min and after an hour & 10, I called to query where our order was. The woman put me on hold for over 5min to be told that the order was on its way, no apology or explanation. When I asked why it was late, the woman hung up me!
Never again. We've been loyal customers for almost 3yrs now and will no longer be ordering from here. Such poor service it really is a shame considering how good the food is.

This place was nowhere near as good as I was expecting! The staff were rude and abrupt. The foods which were supposed to be mild were really spicy and seats uncomfortable . When I saw the menu I was excited because it was exactly the same as Sweet Chilli in Heathmont which is just amazing, but the quality was nothing like it. Do yourself a favour and go to Heathmont!

Out in the middle of nowhere this place is amazing.

Typical suburbia Thai restaurants, a few remnants of Thailand and clean interior. and toilet :-)

Super friendly and pleasant service., family run?

Amazing quality with what they are charging, been there a few times now.
Looking forward to going back there in soon with a group of friends.

Great team, thank you and well done!

This place rocks. Super fast delivery and really delicious meals every single time!!! They also cater for vegans (and know what 'vegan' means)

The entree scallop was good but the main means weren't all that great. The pad Thai noodles were average and Tom yum soup was very salty. Overpriced. Friendly staff though.

Really good takeaway Thai food. Had a couple of stir fries and a couple of curries. All fresh and tasty. Really friendly staff. Unfortunately, they don't deliver to Kilsyth.

Picked up some take-away from here the other night. Entrees were a disappointment. Small and over-cooked. The Beef Satay in particular was overdone and tough.

The main courses more than made up for it. The Pad Bai Gapoa and Pad Khing stir fries, both with chicken, were really nice! Both dishes were large, so with some coconut rice there was plenty to go around. This is one of the better Thai food restaurants in the area and we felt quite satisfied after our meal.

Edit 14/11/2016
We went here to "eat in" rather than take-away and I've raised my rating based on the experience. There were four of us so we BYO'd a bottle of wine and also selected a couple of beers from their menu which has quite a few to choose from.
We ordered spring rolls and chicken satay entrees to share and all arrived hot and tasted great. For main course we ordered a red curry and a green curry (both with chicken), chicken with basil leaf and marinated grilled chicken. Also some steamed rice. All meals arrived hot and all were delicious. Very authentic flavours. This restaurant has a "no frills" decor but great food, friendly and fast service. We will definitely be back!

Delicious!. My favourite dish is Tom Yum Soup whilst dipping their complementary prawn crackers!... I get take away quite regularly from there, and I'm always really happy with their service and food.

Naomi -Croydon

Really used to love this place, but is really gone down hill. Now pad Bai gapoa is so hot despite being ask to make it very mild the last FOUR times I can't eat it. Given up.

Yum yum yum. Delicious food. Massaman Beef Curry was sensational. Ordered online. did not disappoint. Definitely order again.

Used to be good. Gone way down hill within the past year.
All the meat is not fresh,
has no taste and is full of fat. The chicken being the worst and ruins the meals. Unfortunate.
We have since changed our Thai to the lemon tree.

Hot Chilli is our local Thai for take away & after many great meals tonight's was a great disappointment. The meat was almost non existent in all three dishes but especially in the beef green curry which was actually a blessing as it was slimy & quite awful. The coconut rice was overly sweet & the chicken looked like it had been pre-chewed. This seems to be a pattern at this restaurant quite consistent food & the occasional shocker. Will be going back to the Lemon Tree for the next Thai takeaway.

I go here all the time. Best food!!!

I have been coming here with friends for years and always been happy until the most recent time I visited.
Food was boring and bland, and after I had to spit out the third bit of tough chicken I gave up.
Sorry to say after years of visiting I most likely won't come back.

Surprised about the rating here. I didn't like it much at all. Entrees - satay beef was good. A nice spicy sauce and good value. The pandan chicken was OK. The larb gai was good and spicy. A big fan of that. Mains we had the chicken massaman, basil beef noodles and beef and cashew nut. Overall these were average with the highlight being the beef/cashew. The sauces were overly sweet and tasted pre made. Whilst the value was OK and the food edible - I wouldn't come back here.

Do not sit in to eat. Food was tasty but cold. First in restaurant 50 minutes later food came out. Prawn crackers offered to other table on entry, not ours. It was 5 c outside and about 2 c inside. We had to put our coats on it was freezing,we were put under the cold heater which kept blowing cold air on us. Very bad table service. The cook concentrated on take away food. Lot of people complaining about bad service. We were going to ring up restaurant. to see if they would serve us

I have eaten here many times, both in the restaurant and with home delivery. I find it hard to go past my favourite dishes, but each time I do, I am rewarded with yet another delicious dish! Not the cheapest restaurant in the area, but definitely a favourite in this household!

$40 on take away for 2 is reasonable but not worth it for this food!
My coconut rice was like runny porridge, the thai red curry smelt nice but tasted like cream and was very thick- not pleasant at all. The roti bread was so over cooked it crunched and cracked like chips. The noodle stir fry was way too saucy but no flavour! Not impressed and won't buy from there again!

AMAZING EXPERIENCE!. I had another amazing experience here! Definitely worth the drive - BEST PAD THAI IN TOWN! And the fish (Pla sam rod) is divine matched well with the Thai Beef Salad... Oh, And there's always room for coconut ice cream! As a regular, I would definitely recommend this place.

VERY VERY POOR SERVICE. So they decided to drop a take away menu in my letterbox, so decided to give them a call considering they are round the corner (5 minute) drive and their menu states that $3 delivery if order under $30 and within 3k.

However when calling up they do not deliver to this area, how unbelievable poor service, if you can not provide a service then do not advertise it and certainly ensure you drop your menus in the suburbs you do deliver to.

I will certainly NOTA Be coming to eat at your establishment.

Worthwhile. Nice casual Thai dining. Walked in on a Thursday evening, place was perhaps half full. Price of food is fine and the quality of food was good. I'll return.

Great food but terrible service. The food here was delicious, so it is such a shame the service we received was SO bad that we will not return. We went on a Saturday night and had a table of 12. I realise this is a large group, but we booked the table. They knew well in advance we were coming. We arrived at 7:00 pm and ordered our banquet at around 7:15. Same for the whole table. Our first entry arrive in reasonable time but then there was no food at all until 8:45. Our party include two young children, so one of our guests had to leave to take the kids to get something to eat and go home before their meals arrived. In the mean time we watched several smaller tables come, order, eat and leave before we were acknowledged again. When we reminded them we were waiting they asked if we had received any food at all. They seemed to completely forget about us. The floors were very slippery and when I asked for our birthday cake to be brought out at the end I was told staff were not prepared to place the candles on the cake or accept the responsibility of carrying the cake to the table. As I mentioned, the food was lovely, and although it was busy and a Saturday night, I found the service unacceptable.

Da best. Went here with family and friends for a birthday. Had the best pad thai I have ever had and the staff were very polite. The only thing. That bothered me was that it was very cold with the air conditioning running all the time. Other than that I loved it all. Defiantly going back

Tasty food. I really like the food here. Very tasty. Beautiful pad thai and massaman curry! The service is average and the place always seems to be very cold unless it's full of people. This kind of annoys me in winter! But I enjoy the food.

Recommended. I really like this place, much better than others in the area. Authentic dishes and reasonably priced. Don't bother with delivery though, they always get it wrong. Once waited over 2 hours for a delivery.

Pretty good. Cafe like atmosphere but quite comfortable, service was quite good and the food did not disappoint. Given the choice I would probably prefer to eat at Thai Chaiyo for the same sort of price, better food, ambience and service.

Warming Thai... Really good fooed and excellent value. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Would go back!
