Review Billy's Table - Croydon

Alex Donaldson
Really impressed by our first visit to Billy’s on Saturday night. Nice intimate space and service was friendly, attentive and efficient. All the food was delicious but the standouts for us were the Calamari, provolone cheese and Butter bean mash. Also had the hummus (which we took home as so full!) garlic flatbread, crispy potatoes, chilli wood fired broccoli and Apple crumble with custard. Very impressed and can’t wait to go back and try more of the menu.

Beware gnocchi bullets!! Staff asked how meal was and I was contemplating whether to say something so I decided I should, not after anything as I was going to eat it anyway. To my surprise, the waitress said “I notice the difference when the chef makes it fresh, the gnocchi is more pillowy,” then proceeded with “enjoy your meal” & walked off. Kinda laughable how much interest they have in customer feedback. Anyway, I paid t her full price of $30 with the side of burnt undercooked eggplant. I’m going to add, the sauce on the gnocchi was delicious so I’m still keen to give them another shot but I hope the boss reads this and reflects on taking customer feedback seriously.

I have been going to billys table for a while now with my partner and enjoy their dinner menus everytime. their pastas, specifically their handmade gnocchi and chilli crab pasta are amazing and dont make you feel so bloated afterwards. their pizzas are straight out of a wood oven and are best eaten hot, 100% recommend their margherita, parmigiana, and prawn olive oil base! for sides, id recommend their woodfired broccoli and baked provolone cheese. If vegetarian and looking for a filling meal, you will not regret their amazing mushroom burger also :)

The Chef cannot cook meat! Total disrespect for customers I was so excited about having a real piece of meat, one of the best Rib Eye at $39... The waitress asked me if I want it "medium-rare", which is my best cooking temperature for beef. The first dish coming to my table was totally overcooked! Also I was shocked to get my rib eye $39 meat cut in slices (irregular slices) mixed with my broccolis. I returned it and asked to have it "uncut". the waitress said it will be 8 minutes... I was thinking how can it cook and rest in 8 minutes? Well, my fears were right... Second serving coming was RAW! Again, cut in irregular slices. Some very thin and some thicker, mixed with the broccolis. I don't understand. There are not 100 versions of "medium-rare". Only one. The chef cut the meat and could see easily that none of the dishes was matching "medium-rare" but still send it to my table... This shows total disrespect to the customer. $39 for one dish is not cheap. They have used 2 pieces of meat and unable to cook this meat correctly. the chef is incompetent in cooking meat. The proof is in the photos. Billie's Table in Croydon is a small restaurant. You can see the people in the kitchen area. I showed my dish to the guy at the pass negating my head that I was not happy. He didn't even come to see me. I had to wait the waitress to finish preparing drinks for another table. No response from the chef. Not even coming to see how my dish was the second time! As I said, not respectful to the customer. They do not deserve our money any more. We will have our outing somewhere else from now on. I was so angry and disappointed, and hungry as well. I am French and we don't mind raw meat in steak tartare. I ate it as it was a beautiful piece of meat even if sliced incorrectly. Please, keep this piece of meat in one piece! I feel it is a sin to cut it as it is a sin to cut spaghettis! We have eaten in this restaurant before, pizza and pasta, which dishes were very good. I would suggest to the chef to either: 1. Learn how to cook meat (obviously they don't konw how to...) 2. Only offer what they are able to cook, pizzas and pastas. I would not recommend this dish to anybody.

Great little coffee place with all Day Breakfast and nice WoodFire Pizza. With a yummy selection of Italien inspired food.

This was a wonderful find for me. Taken here by 2 friends. The host/owner was engaging and friendly. The menu prices reasonable and my meal choice was heaven on a plate. He also has a great drinks menu. Highly recommended.

I have been wanting to try Billy's table since it opened and finally an opportunity presented itself. Loved it! Good quality, delicious food with a focus on fresh ingredients and keeping it simple. We worked our way through most of the small plates menu before moving onto the lamb and goat mains with some sides. It is a sign of a great menu when you have a hard time choosing which vegetable dish you want. Friendly staff and a great vibe. The wine list is small and this means that sometimes the selections change.

I recently came to Billy’s table for lunch with friends. What a delightful little gem this place is. The food is so tasty and the lunch special is exceptionally good value. I loved the idea of being able to choose what you want to eat from 2 starters and a main and customize your own meal. All the food that came out looked amazing, especially the whole cooked fish. Good coffee and friendly staff. It is only small so I can imagine that weekends would be quite busy. I will be back for sure.

Very good food, great rich flavours and pizza choices. Prices are excellent for the portions you receive. Will be back to try some of the other items on the menu.

Great flavours! cheap eats and great options, nice staff and a good little brunch place without breaking the bank too much when your holidaying. It's in the side of shops and there's street parking should it be needed😊 no pasta though but there is pizza.

Every single dish I have had here from day one has been amazing! Cannot fault the place at all. Friendly staff, warm inviting area. The best pizza I have had hands down

Best pizza we have ever had!!!! Always come to billys when craving a pizza, nothing in the world that compares to the sopressa pizza. Hope they open a bigger restaurant so I can have bigger dinners there!

We thought we’d give Billy’s a go after hearing good reviews. Long story short - service was below average: we had a booking and was asked to wait outside. Later when a table became available, I ducked inside to ask if we could have that table once clean, the waiter said “well, I have to clean it!”.... and then later popped his head out the door to let us know it was ready, leaving us to carry our drinks, plates and cutlery ourself to our new table!

This is the sort of restaurant where the menu should be explained (eg. recommend two mains and two sides etc) however, there was no care or personalisation put into our service or order - we ordered a pizza for entree (which came out with all the mains), the fish and the beef fillet and a side of wedges. The food was enjoyable but not great - we got bored after a few mouth fulls due the imbalance/ratio of our order. If we had known sides were recommended, we would have ordered them. The guy who brought out our food had the auditory to say “wow, you got a lot of food!” even after we asked what he thought of our order size/choice.

I was using the sauce from a plate which was scooped up from the table as I was eating from it. I was eyeing off the desserts but decided to go elsewhere. Not sure if I’ll return..

Billys Table is a fairly new eatery at Croydon which cooks the majority of their food in a wood fired oven. My wife did a job nearby which was catered for by Billys. She raved about the food and 5 days later we went there for lunch.
I was not disappointed. The space is small but inviting, staff friendly and welcoming, prices very reasonable and the food, oh the food... Fantastic. We shared an entree of chared eggplant with pomegranate and a yoghurt dressing. Cracking little dish. Smokey, spicy and delicious. And the weekly pizza special with sour dough base, pancetta, gorgonzola, chilli, rocket. Base was crispy but chewy and the topping combination spot on. Best pizza I have had in quite a while. So much so I stuck my head into the kitchen and thanked the chef.
We will definitely be back and taking some of our foodie friends with us.
