Review Oriental Garden Chinese Restaurant - Croydon

Ordered the King prawns with honey and cashews. Not a single cashew. Replaced them with fried crispy noodles instead. Also prawns were heavily battered and deep fried, didn’t state that in the dish description. Also ordered fillet pepper steak- it was NOT fillet steak, rather normal topside or other cheaper cut being sold at premium price. Dinner for 2 dishes cost me $73 as was inedible.

Do not buy from these guys! Just ordered Chinese from them and they filled up the containers too much so the lids didn’t close and it leaked all over my car seats and into the carrier bag. Called to complain with photo evidence and they said it was ‘not their problem’

Dont go here. We ordered at 6pm, got dinner at 8.45pm Owner came to our table several times to announce he had RUN OUT of Birds Nests, then RUN OUT of Bean Shoots then RUN OUT OF SEAFOOD!. And when we got it, it was gluggy & tasteless

Slow service, rude staff. Could overhear staff members talking about other customers, making fun of them. Ordered a vegetarian spring roll and received a meat spring roll. Our booking ordered a fair bit of food but split it up into groups to help. We didn't receive our rice and then overheard the waiter moaning about how we hadn't ordered it. Overall; the staff were rude, service was Slow, food was good. (Once we got it) Wouldn't recommend.

Have been coming to this restaurant my entire life (I'm 25) wait staff didn't seem to have a duty manager who was coaching them on how to do their jobs so they didn't even know to clear our tables between courses. Food was okay but balance of flavours was off - a bit too salty in a few of the dishes. The deep fried ice cream was okay, but I remember is being way better previously. My feedback for the owner would be to create a duty manager to actually guide and teach your staff and taste your food more. Service is simple- people want to feel like they're special when they dine at your restaurant. A little tlc goes a long way.

Hi everyone we went out for dinner tonight on a date night. Our normal chinese Restaurant was closed as most places are on monday night so we tried a new spot. Well the place was empty so the good things was we didnt have to wait to long and it gave the 15yo waitress something to do 😀. The food was really nice we had garlic king prawns which there was a lot of and a seasonal veg with special fried rice. We also had a dimsim for starters but i would flattly refuse anyone get this as it looked like a dead rat or possum cut into a square and tasted just about as good. The rest of the food though was really good so please visit if you get a chance. Thanks everyone for the great support of the views muchly appreciated.

I’ve dined here and had take away. As someone else commented. Good old fashioned Aussie Chinese takeaway. Can’t fault it.

Have tried this “joint” a handful of times over the years, verdict, Not good, eat in or takeaway ordinary in every aspect. Hard to fathom it gets good reviews.

We discovered Oriental Garden when we first moved into the area.
We have dined in & ordered take away and we have never had any issues.
My husband will rarely eat anything that has not been made at home or is Italian and he loves this place.
A++

As a particular fan of Chinese food, I was a little surprised I had eaten from here earlier as I've lived in the Area 30 years, got the old faves of Lemon Chicken, Honey Chicken, Chicken in plum, Sweet and sour pork and Sichuan Beef, was a fan if most and see red the masses that we had over, only dish that didn't wow was the Chicken in plum.

This is gone a be my new go to in the Area

Went here for my dad's birthday recently, looking for a good suburban Chinese meal

The service wasn't great, we got a different banquet to the one we'd ordered (but we're too focussed on the birthday to notice until half way through - our mistake), the waiter spilled (and broke) a glass of wine on me (no apology, instead I was told "it's alright"). The food was consistently taken away before we were done with it.

We weren't expecting the Flower Drum, but the food was pretty average. Beef and black bean was tough, lemon chicken looked processed - you could see the layers. The soup had a strange glue like quality.

I'd say avoid, which is a shame because there aren't that many great suburban Chinese restaurants anymore. 🙁
