Review Afghan Pamir Restaurant - Dandenong

شجا ع
Awful experience food was not fresh maybe couples of days old and the price was sky touching. I went with my family and ordered 4 dishes but all was awful and didn’t eat anything but still they changed me full. I know this restaurant for many years used to be very good when run by an old Afghani man but now under some new management

Salad was served with fungus. All reheated food. Hopefully manager takes it as a feedback and serve a fresh salad without fungus next time.

Nice family friendly restaurant, food was good, excellent vegetarian options!

We first tried Uzbek cuisine when we were in Dubai and we absolutely fell in love with it! <br/><br/>We couldn't believe it when we found out Melbourne had the most beautiful restaurant on our door step.<br/><br/>Uzbekistani pallaw rice infused with cumin - the Uzbek version of their own biryani mixed with chickpeas and a fruity touch. Sambosa with soft, golden pastry filled with a meat filling infused with Uzbek flavour. <br/><br/>Not only does this hidden gem offer the most beautiful Uzbek food in Melbourne. The atmosphere is so romantic and ethnic with beautiful Afghani, Uzbek rugs and decor. Marble table tops, royal seating and traditional music to set the scene. 🇺🇿 🇦🇺 ⁣<br/><br/>We will definitely make the drive over from Roxburgh Park to Dandenong in the future! <br/><br/>Follow Melbourne Culture Eats on Instagram & Facebook for all the best cultural eats across Melbourne.

The food here is delicious and the value for money is outstanding. We had the banquet and couldn’t have been more satisfied. Can’t stress enough how good the kebabs and the rice are. The dumplings (not traditional dumplings but even better) were so tasty. Could not fault any of the dishes that make up the banquet. The service was genuine and friendly and the ambience warm. I would highly recommend this restaurant to anyone wanting authentic food with authentic service.

The best Afghan restaurant in Melbourne by far. A group of us went here and ordered the banquet and aside from having enough food for many meals to come (thank you for the takeaway!), the taste of the dishes is what makes this place the best. The rice dishes are so tasty they could easily be eaten alone but all the dishes we could not fault. I would highly recommend the eggplant and the kebabs. This is truly a hidden gem!

Great food and friendly hosts, this place has it all, we always goes the banquet and are never disappointed. The whole family love this place even my 3year old!

Whilst on a solo work trip to Dandenong, I utilised Zomato to find somewhere for dinner and decided on Pamir. The food was plentiful and tasty, the waitress friendly and the decor noteworthy. A combination of factors that make Pamir a wonderful dining experience. Highly recommended.

Had a nice meal here it was quite a traditional place in styling. Offered banquets with heaps of different dishes. The service good and so was the food. Good variety and flavour

Second time visiting this very friendly restaurant within the heart of Dandenong. Portions were delicious as well as generous, and the customer service was extremely helpful and polite. Very cosy and will recommend this to anyone wanting to grab a quick bite or for anyone looking to have a little celebratory function.

We went to this place as a large group on a Friday evening and had the banquet served in a buffet style.<br/>The place has a great ambience and the food is of excellent quality. The lamb and chicken skewers especially were  soft n juicy. The breads that came were fresh and soft. The wait staff greeted us with a smile and were quite accommodating throughout the evening. The place is a BYO. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone wishing to eat Afghani / middle eastern food in Dandenong. We would love to be back at this place sometime soon!!!

“Ridiculously delicious……one of my all-time favourite restaurants”. Have been here a few time, it is compulsory if I am in Dandenong, no matter with friends or solo. A lot of beautiful options which are tasty and fresh! An iconic place. The design speaks a lot about the place! Friendly staff and delicious food motivates to come again!

As very picky person, I am not usually satisfied with the quality of the food. But Pamir Restaurant could make a difference and truly deserved my applauses and appreciation with the exceptional quality food and costumer service. We had Mix Kebab platter consists of sliced and minced Lamb, Chicken kebabs and fell in love with it. Especially the Chicken Kebab is just Magnificent. Would recommend everyone who is after delicious food and friendly atmosphere

If you have read my review on Al Rahimi Restaurant in Dandenong, then you will know how much I love the cuisine of Afghanistan. And living just 5 minutes away from Lonsdale Street, it was high time I had a review of Pamir up on the blog. Dandenong is quite an interesting suburb in terms of culture and food. It’s diverse and colourful; we truly practice ‘live and let live’ down here. Afghan food has a huge presence here, with plenty of restaurants and takeaways lining the Afghan precinct and also on Lonsdale Street.

This place is disappointing. Upon arrival, my husband and I stood at the front counter for over five minutes waiting to be seated. A large group arrived behind us and seemed to be friends with the owner, so they overtook us and were seated first. <br/><br/>Once we were seated, we had to ask two different waitresses to take our drink order and had to ask five times if we could get some water, which eventually arrived half way through the meal.<br/><br/>We had the banquet. The food was so bland it bordered on being inedible. The meatball Koftas were mince and onion, no spices or herbs. The highlight of the dish would be the kebabs... Just. These are what I give the one point for otherwise it would be a zero rating. <br/><br/>The restaurant is stagnant. No music, except for some kind of reality show playing on the TV in the background. <br/><br/>Overall, a disappointing experience. The staff are disinterested, to the point of being rude. Food is mediocre and all this for the bargain price of $80.<br/><br/>Do your self a favour and spend your money elsewhere.

We had chicken & lamb kebabs which were juicy & tasty, the prawn curry which was mildly spicy & included green vegetables. The lamb samosas were fresh & fragrant and were complemented by the dips & salad. The bread was very fresh. Overall it was filling but without feeling heavy and too full. This left room for dessert & the honey cake went well with a cup of peppermint tea to finish. The service was friendly & quick as there were hardly any people there.

We came here on recommendation by some friends and reading reviews. Pamir is situated upstairs on the main shopping strip in dandenong. Taking two fights of stairs up to the second floor, you enter a restaurant decorated with traditional artefacts, flags etc. It's quite a cosy family restaurant and has a very comfortable atmosphere.<br/><br/>Once we were seated we decided on banquet number 2 as we didn't know what to choose. First came fresh bread with three dips, two yoghurt based and one tomato based. I really enjoyed the tzatziki and the mildly spicy tomato salsa. They tasted fresh and was a great appetiser. They also came out with two serves of fresh tomato and cucumber salad with a light dressing.<br/><br/>Next came the dumplings, they were covered in a delicious tomato sauce and garlic yoghurt and the filling was a delicious spiced minced meat. The meat was delicious and moist and the wrapping skin was nice and soft. <br/><br/>Then came the mains. <br/><br/>Starting with a huge plate of lamb biryani, it consisted of a rice, chickpeas, sultanas, delicious marinated lamb pieces and various spices. It was delicious and with a mild enough taste that it could compliment all the main dishes that followed.<br/><br/>We were served a steamed eggplant with lightly fried spiced potatoes under it. The eggplant was so deliciously soft and fragrant, some of us didn't realise what they were eating. It was covered in a nice fresh tomato sauce and garlic yoghurt topped with a mixture of fresh herbs like coriander, dill and parsley. Presenting a bunch of carnivores like this group was going to be dicey, but everybody loved it. It was so tasty, we hardly thought about the lack of meat in the dish.<br/><br/>Next came the meat ball kofta. They were large round meat balls sitting in a fragrant tomato based sauce served with green peas. The meat balls were perfectly cooked and so soft you could just break it into pieces with your fork. Needless to say the kofta and accompanying sauce were quickly demolished. <br/><br/>Next came the chicken and lamb skewers. We had one each and each skewer had maybe 5 or 6 decent sized chunks of meat on them. Both chicken and lamb were both marinated with different delicious spice mixes and cooked perfectly in either coals or a really good flame. The meat was so soft and fragrant, they came off the skewers easily and were thoroughly enjoyed. <br/><br/>After attempting to finish all the food, we were pleasantly full, with only a little biryani left. The servings were generous and everything tasted fresh and home made. For the 45 dollars we paid per person we felt it was a very enjoyable dinner and a great introduction into Afghan cuisine. <br/><br/>I know one thing for certain, I'll be coming back again for those dumplings.

We discovered how scrumptious and delicious Afghan food was a few years ago when we decided to visit the Afghan town of Dandenong, where there are an abundance of Afghan restaurants to choose from. Ever since we had our first taste, we’ve never looked back!  So I wanted to share one of my recommended restaurants to go to if you are ever in town or wish to try out the cuisine.

Pamir serves up authentic Afghani food and they don't disappoint at all. Kebabs, dips, pulao and the salads. Everything was incredibly amazing and tasty. In a group of 5, we ordered shish kebab, kabuli pulao, chicken biryani and mantu!! The afghani dumplings (mantu) do not disappoint a bit. Juicy mince coated with yummy yogurt and chilli masala powder. Yummzow! The kebab was incredibly roasted and succulent and the biryani was par excellence. The only let down was the kabuli pulao which was sweet and wasn't as flavorful as the rest of the food on our tables. We also tried the vegetable kebab for a friend which were smoky. <br/>Pamir is a MUST visit!!
Ramieleatsshootsandleaves
They are a generous joint! The service was fun - as in our group was well-informed about the dish items, and was super friendly. The food was very satisfying, aromatic, and tasty. Even the takeaway lunches.

Amazing food!. We had the banquet which was fantastic. The dumplings (mantu) are to die for and the meat skewers were so tasty and tender. All the dishes were great and the quality of the food is very good. We were served quickly and the waiters were lovely. All in all we had an amazing dinner. All left feeling very full and satisfied. Will definitely be coming back soon. Highly recommended.
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
We were completely blown away by the magnificent decor; hand crafted solid wood furniture, marble table tops (albeit covered by a layer of plastic), and stunning pieces of Afghan artwork. It would have been a wonderful dining atmosphere except for the fact that this place was completely empty when we arrived, and would practically remain so for the remainder of the evening. The food at this place is rather pricey in comparison to other Afghan restaurants in the area, and we ended up opting for the $35 banquet which enabled us to try a bit of everything from their menu. Unfortunately the food did not impress me as much as the decor did, and I would most likely not venture here again.

After searching for somewhere completely different to venture for a family dinner, my sister and I were happy to agree on Afghan Pamir Restaurant! The restaurant has recently moved to a new location in Dandenong, and going by reviews alone, has been very popular and successful, serving up delicious food.
The Degusters
One of the unusual dishes was the Mantuu – Afghan steamed dumplings, made from pastry, and served like a big ravioli. Interesting texture and flavour, we can only explain it as being a fusion of Asian dumplings and Italian pasta. It was genuinely a unique experience for us – and while we're not completely sold on this dish, and probably wouldn't make a special effort to go back just so we could have it again, it is really quite unique and we'd be happy to eat it again. I guess you have to try it once, right?

Fantastic food. I went on saturday with my family, to have some diffrent food. But<br/> The food was Delicious, spacialy kababs on sekwers and chapli kababs are the best,.<br/>I never eat this amazing food before.<br/>restaurant is very nice ,staff is very friendly and quick service.<br/>I highly recommend this restaurant

Fantastic Afghan food. We just had our Work Christmas dinner there. Delicious food! We chose the Banquet and loved the range of the dishes, and there was plenty!
GemmaGems
Awesome lamb & chicken kebab skewer. Lamb and Chicken kebab skewers are sooooooo delicious. There is no other comment but to say the food is exceptional. But it is not cheap. The owner is so nice and lovely lady. Definitely coming back again.
Annepurdham
Lovely experience. We had a lovely evening here last night. The banquet was all delicious. I think like the meatballs and the rice the best but it is all excellent. The staff are friendly and efficient. The music was a really nice touch as it was in the background but creates a nice ambience. Well done guys!

Pieces of plastic in meals. Came here once and we were impressed until we got the banquet and my friend came across two pieces of plastic in her meal. <br/><br/>We were lucky enough to not have to pay for it because we were definitely turned off our meals at that point.<br/><br/>We were still hungry after driving around for a bit and went to our trusty favourite - Afghan Tasty

THE BEST MOTHER'S DAY EVER!!!!!. Me, my family and our family friends 15 people of us have been invited to the restaurant. We are even didn't know where we are going. It was my husband choice. He wants to spoil me. I've been only once in Dandenong this is my second time. I've never been uzbek and Afghan. but we are glad we did.the place is amazing, from entry to dine in decor very traditional set up, beautiful tables and chairs. We are ordered $40 banquet meal which was excellent . we are trying to ended up but manager said to make a space for desert. There was few options , gulab jumun and honey cake with lovely ice cream and complimentary fruit platter. they are also have $35 banquet as well as four main course selections and lots of a la carte options. The belly dancer was the best surprise for us, she also involved a crowed to dance everyone start dancing there was no space even do dance. I think they need to extend dance floor))) it was a good fun and best Mother's day for us. My parent really like this place. Service was good, and all in a great food and unforgettable night.out with the family and friends. The best host. Highly recommend this place to everyone. only bad thing the are a bit far from city.))) but for event doesn't make a difference a distance. Looking forward to come back next month.
Bassam Chakelli
Loved this place. He had the vegan banquet, and the staff and management were very accommodating. First time eaten afghan food....love the colours and spices. staff were very friendly and attentive. Now I can't not for the life of me remember the names of the dishes....but I enjoyed everyone of them!! Thank you for a delicious night out!!
Paul Is Hungry
It wasn't even my birthday!. It was my brother's birthday. He chose the restaurant and he had eaten there before. We ordered about 5 main meals to share amongst ourselves and everything was fantastic. Okay, there are plastic tablecloths. But the way some of us eat they are a necessary evil. If you are in doubt ask the waitress what to order. The dumplings are beautiful. The kebabs sensational. Highly recommend it.

Very good experience. Looking for something different, went for dinner last Saturday with wife and the whole experience was above expectations. We had banquet 1 ($35) and all the dishes that came were very good. Started with the salad, then the bread and dips, rice and a meat dish and then the kebabs on skewers. Service was very friendly and professional. There was live music very appropriate for the time and the environment provided by a lady with a beautiful voice. The decor may not be modern but we really enjoyed the experience.

AFGHAN RESTAURANT. We started going to this restaurant years ago when it was a little cafe; then a small restaurant; now in the main street and more upmarket. The food has always been wonderful, the service second to none and now much improved decor. We visit on a regular basis and are never disappointed. Congratulations to the hard-working owners who do an excellent job.

Mrs. Most delicious food served by very friendly staff and the price is so reasonable for buffet meals. Would highly recommend it .

Great food and friendly, efficient service. The lamb kebabs are amazing!

Dandenong is full of awsome Afghan Kebab shops, and this one is my absolute favourite. Have been coming here for many years & love the new restaurant look. Old restaurant was more basic style, but now since moved to new location, restaurant has a fantastic traditional feel with beautiful hand made furniture which gives the true Afghan feel & mood. The food as always is fantastic & highly recommend the banquet, which gives a great mix of rice, entree's & Kebabs of course! Family owned busisness, being served by lovely owner with a smile, whilst her husband does the awsome cooking. Quality food for a reasonable price. Highly recommend this place
Jil
This place is under new ownership so I'm not sure what its like now. For more than a decade, this place has been the jewel of dandenong. Try the eggplant, kabuli pulaw and chicken. Beautiful stuff. Various rices with pomegranate... Or orange & almond... Or carrot & sultanas.
BenG
Amazing food, great service. Very cool environment. Does a wonderful job in catering for vegans
Kat
Delicious - will definitely return!. We dined here this evening for the first time and ordered the banquet. The service was prompt and efficient and the meals were tasty and filling. At $35 pp I thought the value was quite good, we left feeling very full and wondering how long it will be until we return! <br/><br/>An excellent place in Dandy to dine!

Good solid Afghan food. We had a very nice lunch today. Delicious food. However, the bread was a bit of a let down though. The last time we were there, the bread was nice and hot, fresh from the oven. This time, the bread does not appear to be freshly baked, but just warmed before serving.
Preet Chhabra
Good food, bit over priced but certainly one of the best chapli, shish and lamb kebabs in town and the bread that comes with it. Highly recommended.
Byte
Solid Performer. Having only tried a handful of Afghan restaurants, I was excited to have the chance to try this recommended establishment. The staff are on the whole extremely attentive despite it being very busy. The flavours of the food are outstanding. On the value side, they seem to be aiming for the higher end client, so it seems a bit expensive for the location and overall experience.
Miss Mistico
Way overpriced and poor customer service. We were overcharged and when we went back for a refund instead of being apologetic they charged us an additional amount for food they 'forgot' to charge us the first time.

Very Delish and Worth Coming Back For. We have been to Afghan Pamir three times, 1st time when it was still in the old location in Foster Street, and twice when it relocated to Lonsdale Street. Still the quality of the food remains excellent. We came initially to dine out of curiosity after the restaurant featured on Tv shows "Postcards" and "Coxy's Big Break". Always have ordered the $35 banquet which in my opinion is more than adequate for a moderately hearty eater, as it features ta complete meal from entree (mantou) and naan bread, salad to the much anticipated pilau rice with barberries and the sensational chicken and lamb kebabs on meter long metal skewers. <br/>The manager and his sons were very affable and cordial to us and after dinner, offered to show us the private dining areas, which are furnished in traditional Afghan style with couches and cushions on the floor and meals served on low tables. They said that these rooms are ideal for parties or conferences, but that we could eat in them if we so wished next time.<br/>The restaurant is located on the second floor (next to Dandy hotel) and you need to climb up 2 flights of stairs, which may present a bit of a difficulty for those with mobility problems .<br/>Definitely we will come back again, hopefully with a larger company to help polish off the wonderful food.
Paulie
I love this restaurant. I live in the city and happily travel the 40 or so minutes it takes to go there. Indeed I was there twice last week. The chicken kebabs are to die for. The chicken, chickpea korma was divine. The service is always friendly (father and sons) and they are extremely obliging if you have any allergies/intolerances... Yes. It is on the more expensive side but I'll keep coming back.
Stephd
Yummy. Excellent place to come have dinner. very cosy and welcoming. I loved the decor and tables inside the restaurant. The food was amazing especially the skewers and the dips. The manager was a very friendly man and extremly helpful and welcome.
Adeel Umar
Highly not recommended. Awful food and disgusting customer service, I have been overcharged and raised this issue with the manager and he was very rude and arrogant man.
Pho
Excellent. Staff decor food A1. A pleasant experience.

Dandenong World Food Fair!. Came across Afghan Pamir Restaurant at the Dandenong Food Festival. I was impressed that they were asking for gold coin donations to sample their food which will be donated to charity. The food was fantastic. I look forward to dining in their restaurant and have already started spreading the word. Afghan Pamir did a great job at the festival with the amount of people attending it was no easy feat and alot of hard work!!
Justine Pentland Matthews
Absolutely Wonderful!. This is one of the nicest dining experiences ive ever had. The food is EXCELLENT and the feeling and ambiance warm and family orientated. They are so proud of their culture and their food, its heart warming to see. Its been so long since a host has come and chatted to me at the table and made sure everything was enjoyable. You must try the Buffet no 2!! Its delicious! Cant wait to be back in the neighborhood so we can go here again! Thank you Afghan Pamir Restaurant for making our night a truely memorable one :)

Very OTT decor! Good food (especially the maantu) but the price is on the high end.

We dined here on the 26th February 2012 and it was amazing. The service, food and value for money was sensational. The waiter we had was a true gentleman and made us feel right at home. It was almost closing time when we arrived and he was more than happy to stay open for us to dine. Highly recommend this restaurant.
Dragonfly Dazed
Wow! Spicy delicious food.. Four of us had dinner here Saturday night. None of us had eaten Afghan type food before but we all loved it. Efficient, helpful and knowledgeable staff make this place a standout. We had all ordered separate meals but our waiter kindly informed us we'd get more food and better value with a banquet. One of us is vegetarian & this was very well catered for in the menu. Save room for the glorious syrup soaked dough balls - AMAZING. Will definitely go again.

We love this restaurant we went to the old one many times and have now gone to their beautiful upstairs restaurant - don't b put off by the staircase! The meals are to die for an best of all they are happy to accommodate kids my 4 year old loves it there, they have a beautiful function and cultural room and the tables and chairs are truly magnificent ! It's an excellent place with very friendly people but book coz they get very busy!
The Critic
Great Food, Great Place. Very authentic food with fantastic service to boot! The boys there are very friendly and don't mind a chat which makes you feel comfortable in their restaurant. Value for money is a plus. Guaranteed you will walk out there with full bellies and full pockets. For the amount of food you get is huge, so I suggest girls, stay small because its tasty filling food that you just cant stop eating. We went for the basic banquet and finally got to the meat course and thought "Oh My!" A place I will go back to time and time again, even takeaway is value! However they are now on Lonsdale Street!

Elegance beyond Dandenong!!. I never thought I would be saying this but I feel I may have just discovered Dandenong's first Classy Restaurant! My partner and I walked in last night (Saturday night) without a booking and were lucky to get a spot. We were completely taken back by the decor, there were stylish marble tables that had what looked like a Mountain theme in the slate and what appearred to be hand made chairs. Very Impressed.<br/>Things looked good to start with, my turning point on any restaurant is usually when I mention my Dietry requirements, I cant take anything with either Gluten or Garlic in it, but the waiter seemed more then happy to accomodate us. We ordered the banquet ($35 per head) and after an initial layout of the standard salads and dips we had our starters begin. My Partner received a Dumpling dish that he was very impressed with whilst I was given a special made chicken dish with Capsicum, onion and tomato. YUMMY!! <br/>The banquet really did do what the waiter promised and we had some excellent dishes sent out, Rice, Curry, Lamb and Chicken Skewers. It was all Amazing!!!<br/>My overall perception of this place is high, the service was excellent, the food delicous and the decor was too classy to ever expect in Dandenong. We will definately be back with friends! Thanks guys for the perfect dinner!

Best kababs ever and superb service.
Michelle
Great food and lots of character!. We just had a business luncheon there. The food was amazing, flavourful and extremely varied. We had a banquet at $20 a head that would've easily cost twice that elsewhere. The restaurant in Thomas Street, Dandenong, is full of character and may appeal to the more budget conscious, but you would never know this, going by the food. Waitstaff are attentive and reappear, tableside, often. If you aren't a princess and enjoy great food in a real setting, Parmir Afghan is the place for you...can't say enough about the food. BTW they are moving to nicer, larger premises in January 2012.
Wolfy
Highs and Lows at Pamir. The restaurant was quiet early on a Sunday night but got busy a later. Unfortunately any ambiance the venue may have was spoiled by plastic table cloths and the almost overwhelming smell of 'floral' disinfectant/cleaner (which along with the table-cleaning cloths was stored next to the tables and adjacent to the front counter).<br/><br/>The staff (two of the owners sons) were polite, friendly and patient, however we did need to ask 3 times over a 15 min period to actually place our order (the female members of staff who served the food could not take our order).<br/><br/>Our table of 5 selected the 'Banquet 2' at $38 each. The first food to arrive was a typical 'Australian' salad of iceberg lettuce, tomato, onion, celery and cucumber, topped with wedges of lemon. This was accompanied by the ubiquitous yoghurt and mint dip and a plate of 'naan' bread. Unfortunately the bread (which was more like Turkish style bread than Indian naan) seemed to be heavy and even a little stale. While the yoghurt dip was nice, all-be-it a little plain, it was also served on-top of almost every other dish throughout the meal.<br/><br/>The Maantu (steamed dumplings) and Kofta (Meat Ball Curry) were both tasty and well matched to the subtly spiced tomato based sauces (topped with more yoghurt sauce) they were served with. But unfortunately only one dumpling and one meat ball per person were provided. These dishes were served with 'Afghani Traditional Rice' which was fluffy rice topped with (what we think was) onion and currents, and even those members of our group that do not usually eat rice were impressed with this dish.<br/><br/>The highlight of the meal was the lamb Tikka (Shish Kabab) skewers, which were spiced with garlic and cooked to perfection (unfortunately only 2 skewers per table of 5), the Chicken Tikka Kabab were almost as good and again cooked to perfection. The Sekh Kabab (lamb mince) skewers were OK, but nothing special. Unfortunately the shredded doner kabab meat (served with tomato based sauce and more yoghurt dip) that was served after the meat skewers was very ordinary and bland in comparison.<br/><br/>The 'vegetarian dish' suggested by the waiter - a mix of potato and eggplant (in more yoghurt sauce) - was bland, appeared to have been prepared in bulk and was surprisingly served cold (we were uncertain if it was intended to be cold or not). However, the small plate of Dal that my daughter ordered was much nicer and served hot.<br/><br/>Dessert was a total let-down. The tiny thumb-nail sized piece of Baklava was dry and tasteless. The Gulab Jaman - while being reasonably sized - were cold, dry and heavy (even the children did not eat them) and the vanilla Ice-cream was simply what can be purchased cheaply at the supermarket.<br/><br/>Overall the dining experience was interesting, but it was also very hit-and-miss, some things were outstanding, but others seemed to be very average (or worse in the case of dessert ).
Jenny
Afghan delight. I really consider myself to be more of a seafood lover then anything but after much persuasion by my husband I found myself at Afghan Pamir in Dandenong and I have to say that was really something unique. We ordered one of the Banquets, which seemed to be the requirement for the night, or weekends in general perhaps. But was an excellent choice, we enjoyed some delicious dumplings and chicken skewers that just melted in your mouth alongside many other very tasteful dishes. The staff were extremely friendly and despite the large turnout the service was still very personalised and well maintained. We were not kept waiting too long for the food while we enjoyed what appeared to be a very traditional Afghan Decor. This was much more then what I ever expected in Dandenong. We really did have a wonderful night and will be sure to return with friends. A very good first experience!

The best in melbourne!. Afghan Pamir Restaurant is definately one of the best restaurants in Melbourne! My friends and I go there for dinner every friday night after uni because its that good. The atmosphere is beautiful, the staff and owner are the nicest and most polite people I have ever met and the food is without a doubt absolutely mouth watering. The flavours and spices gets your taste buds in frenzy. The Maantu is cooked to perfection and has a beautiful yoghurt sauce that you just can't get enough of :) The chicken skewers are delighful. i recommend this restaurant to anyone who loves great food and a great atmosphere beacause thats what you'll get at this restaurant
Wonderlost
Didn't think it was something extraordinary. My wife and stopped by bacuse friends mentioned this placed to us in the past. Food was alright and the service was ok. But may be we had high expectations... Don't see ourselves going back specially since there are so many places to explore!

A new Pamir experience. Pamir Afghan Restaurant has moved to a fabulous new location upstairs on Lonsdale Street and the food is still stunning<br/><br/><br/>-----17 May, 2011-----<br/><br/>An institution!. Pamirs is one of the most famous Afghan restaurants. Rahimi is a wonderful host and the food is delicious. Well worth a vist to Dandenong

Old School. I have known Pamir Restaurant since 2003 when it was at old shop from across the road from now. Menu was simple with afghan rice with lamb, chicken and mince skewer choices. I wont say i am stuck in 2003 but i like change in things ....<br/><br/>Today i went to the restaurant and Menu was with a huge choice and prices were way up compare to 2003 till 2007 from my last visit. OK no problem but I was bit of astonished from the son of the Owner serving as waiter that me, my wife and my two babies age under 5 could not choose some thing else if one wanted to order Banquet of $30 or $38. <br/><br/>Looking at the change in Menu, Tiba restaurant in Brunswick came to my mind may be big Menu and more taste....I ordered Banquet and my wife wanted to choose from Set Main meals but we were denied. we were told both has to order the same meal, option of choice was taken away in denial. we were told that lot of things will be put in font of us and we can eat every thing and any thing from it. <br/><br/>Here we go, home made salad came in a small plate with Onions cut, couple of pieces of Lettuce and Cucumber in huge pieces. Two plates of Dips (herb mix yoghurt's and hot Chili mixture) were put in front off. Dumplings one plate and Koftas with 4 Skewer of lamb (old original recipe) , plate of Afghani rice (Could figure out what style were they, no Afghani , No Indian nor Pakistani) and couple of some pieces of Afghan bread. Looking at table with order of Two Banquets I couldn't believe how harsh it was to put small meal in front of two Adults and two kids. Mood went down the drain and couldn't ask any thing else. <br/><br/>Dumplings were made of rubber Pasta and cold as fridge, Koftas were way down of Pakistani, Indian or Afghani Style. I was eating food with broken heart and looking at my babies what to feed them, two years old had some pieces of Lamb Skewer which i chopped for her but she eat some of it. <br/><br/>in Embarrassing i order two Ice Cream for my babies when they finished I was in whole disappointment that what the hell happen. when went to counter, waiter (one of the Son of the Owner) asked me how it was. I acknowledged him in Arabic (Alhum du lilla) and paid for the food in a broken heart .<br/><br/>To me I was looted after paying $60 for that small course of meal, where i remember i wouldn't have paid more then $ 30 of their old recipe. option of choice was taken and no choice of Vegetation food, they just bought it......<br/><br/>I been through lot of restaurants but it was the worst ever, trust me Worst ever..... McDonald food would have given me more taste then Pamir's latest Menu, i wouldn't even go there in million years if some one will say to me that they have changed their menu again........<br/><br/>to me they are just chasing in of their old Name and old service under small Menu....... i would consider eating at TAB Restaurant but not at Pamir........... I wish i would have taken the photo but me and my wife were looking at each others face and laughing.......so forgot........

We went as a party of seven and had no pre-concieved ideas. Most of us had no experience with Afghan food before. The service from the staff was polite and friendly and our banquet dishes arrived with little waiting. We enjoyed the food which reminded us of Turkish cuisine - tender meats, dips, rice, flat bread etc. All very nice. The restaurant itself is fairly gaudy and the tablecloths were protected by thick plastic sheets which felt a bit tacky. But this is Dandenong, not Toorak and the meal more than made up for it!

Great Find!. We went to Afghan Pamir last night, and I was blown away.<br/><br/>From the minute we walked through the door, we were greeted warmly and treated very well. Our waiter asked if we had any questions after we looked over the menu, and after I told him that I don't eat lamb, he recommended other dishes that were just as good, but didn't have lamb. We went for the $38 banquet because it included dessert and a drink. It was a lot of food, and all of it fantastic.<br/><br/>The food was quick to arrive, and the meals were so delicious. All tables start with a salad, home made bread and yoghurt dip. Then came the chicken Kofta, and then the veg dumplings, then the eggplant and potato Borani which was excellent, and then followed by enormous meat skewers. I had the chicken and my partner had the lamb. As well as all this food, the table had a huge plate of their lovely fragrent rice. This rice is like nothing you've had before, it is so soft and light and smells amazing. We asked to take home the rice we didn't eat, and she came back with a full container telling me she "put a bit more in there". So nice!<br/><br/>After all the meals were cleared, we needed some time to rest out stomachs before dessert, so I was glad for the break, by then the place was completely packed, with work break-ups and large groups. This place draws in a crowd, and for good reason.<br/><br/>The dessert came and it was Baklava and Gulab Jaman with Ice Cream. I have never really tried Baklava before last night, but I gave it a go, and it was great. You really need to have it with ice cream because it is so sweet!<br/><br/>Overall, the friendliness of the staff was outstanding, the meals were tasty and plentiful for the amount we paid, the meals were quick and you were constantly asked if everything was ok (a personal fave of mine). On leaving and giving them my feedback about how great the meal was, I asked if they are open for lunch, and they said they are and the Banquet for lunch is $20, but you just get a little less, which honestly, you will need at lunch.<br/><br/>Highly recommend this place. It was fantastic and eye-opening. You won't be disappointed :)

Great Experience. My first Afghani Experience, was very impressed by it, we had a banquet that had alot of new and intresting dishes, there was a very nice Dumpling followed by a variety of kababs and rice and curries. Was a very good dinner, staff were very friendly even with our children, everyone was able to have everything (which is different when it comes to my kids). We enjoyed it thoroughly, would definately recommend to others and we will be returning soon.

Great for something different!. We gave this place a go just to try something different. Staff were so friendly and willing to give suggestions about what to try! Our table ordered the banquet (both the meat and vegetarian ones) food was delicious and plentiful! Only let down was the vegetable korma which consisted mainly of cauliflower and was a little bland. Also we went on a Sunday night to was a little quiet and atmosphere lacking but definitely recommend to someone wanting to try something new.

I like learning about new cuisines and new cultures. But I do admit a tendency to lean towards either East Asian or European foods. So when it was brought to my attention that a really good Afghan restaurant was reopening its doors in Dandenong after a relocation, I decided to head on down. I know next to nothing about Afghan food. So I can't tell you whether or not it is authentic. Judging from the reviews of Afghan Pamir Restaurant however, it seems that it is quite authentic. All I know is, I went with no expectations, an open mind and a hungry stomach, ready to experience a cuisine and a culture that was new to me. Afghan Pamir Restaurant had relocated from an inner street to the main street of Dandenong. The trade off seems to be that instead of being front and center on the ground floor location, it is now housed upstairs with a tiny sign above a dodgy looking stairways. As I started clim
