The worst Sri Lankan shop in Melbourne. They should stop selling rotten food for the customers. Bought couple of take away food packs and they were already smelly when I opened, but still the owner doesn’t believe he served as is. In addition, worst customer service by the owner. Highly recommended NOT to buy food packs from store and it doesn’t even deserve a star.

I ordered a few snacks from this place. Received the order very fast. But upon eating it I was in for a painful shock. The fish by had big fish bones in it. One got stuck down my throat and it still hurts the next day. The bun tasted good but I’m absolutely shocked that they don’t quality control these food. The fish roll and the beef roll tasted sour, suggesting that these were gone bad. The ulundu wade was supposed to come with a coconut sauce but I didn’t get the sauce with it. Overall I’m shocked that this place operates like this. Perhaps the food is good if you order during day time when it’s fresh. Still no excuse for the bones in the fish bun.

I love going here. This is a well stocked shop for all Sri Lankan cooks and lovers of 'food to go' as well. The staff are friendly and very helpful. The proprietor of this establishment is a delightful person and so welcoming.

I read the reviews only after already being committed to this place by others.. from what I read, I would have been happy just to get out of there without food poisoning.

That said, the food was pretty good. It was very spicy, I was actually sweating which doesn’t happen often. I had the chicken leg curry with yellow rice, and a roti wrap (this was too dry, don’t get this). The curry was really nice though.

Ambience is interesting since the place also doubles as a Sri Lankan convenience store. The service is friendly, but seemed a little confused - as an example we asked for water, which they brought us but only brought two glasses for five people.

Crap food and no hygiene what so ever. Looks like they don’t have any knowledge of food handling. Food doesn’t taste or smell fresh...... everyone be careful of expired foods

I'm a visitor from the west and have been there on numerous occassions when I go to Melbourne. Have seen the cleanliness detoriate over the years. I have seen the cook use his bare hands to serve rice out of a rice cooker, got served lukewarm food but the last straw was when I walked in on Friday and saw a cockroach in the dhal (lentils). I pointed it out to the young girl who tried to flick it out with a spoon but it escaped and crawled over the meat curry and then crawled between the bainmarie trays. The young girl just shrugged her shoulders and continued to serve. I walked out in disgust. NEVER going back there again.

This place has the best Sri Lankan food so far.! All the other so calles Sri Lankan places are useless No flavour or Too spicy. Colombo has the best tasting Biriyani and Fried Rice.! Look @ the mouth watering picture below. Plus not too spicy at all you can enjoy as you were in Sri Lanka. $4.95 for a Fried Rice.! I don't think you can buy that flavour and quality Sri Lankan for that price in Melbourne! Please keep it up guys we will come back for more.!

I got rotten Godamba Roti. Beware of the Colombo Impex in Dandenong, as we were sold rotten food for the second time. We let the first time go not paying much attention to it. We didn’t shop there much afterwards.
We purchased some “Godamba Roti” last evening (17th December 2014) and when we got home we realized that all of them were rotten even though the expiry date was marked as the 23rd December. (See the pictures).
We immediately return the rotten “Godamba Roti” and expressed our displeasure to the staff but they took it really lightly saying “it is not our product” but we highlighted that if it is on their shelf they should take responsibility of it. The Lady (I think is the owner) was saying it has gotten rotten since it was a hot day. I got my money back but I don’t think it is fair for the customers that they don’t care of the food they sell.
I don’t think there are any valid excuses to sell rotten food to their customers. We are going to make a formal complaint to the Dandenong Council since this is the second time within a few months.
It is a well-known Sri Lankan shop in Dande and you get a lot of Sri Lankan food there but they shouldn’t be selling rotten food at any cost.
I’m sharing my experience online for you for you guys to know and to be careful with Colombo Impex in Dandenong

Pickles, Chutneys & Sambols. The lion's share of Colombo Impex's vast premises is devoted to shelves of groceries, but it was the bain-marie laden with authentic Sri Lankan standards that caught my eye. There's an enticing selection of rustic, home-style curries, and an assortment of 'short eats' such as pan rolls, pastries and stuffed rotis.

I sampled a plate which included biryani style rice, beef curry, onion relish & mango chutney, all for $7.20. There's a dining space hidden away towards the rear that features hand washing facilities, as this fare is best enjoyed without cutlery.

Popular favourites such as stringhoppers are also on offer, but must be ordered well in advance.
