Review The Magic Wok Restaurant - Darwin

This gem of Darwin has been here forever and is still exciting and delightful. The staff are friendly and informative and the chefs are fun to watch. It is very sad that pesky thieves keep breaking in. Bring your overseas and interstate friends to sample croc, venison, camel, duck and fresh veges cooked in many different ways and with your choice of sauces. Noodles are free! Big selection of beers and liquor coffees too.

Absolutely LOVED, My visit here. Was my first time, The Food is priced by weight. They offer assorted meats. Kangaroo, crocodile, deer, camel, along with the usuals as well if you're feeling a bit Vanilla ;P. So you pick your meat. Pick your veggies or whatever you feel like from the selection (I'm amazed they have almost all my favourite veggies.. Pick your sauce, pick your extras. They also offer 2 different soups. They offer assorted kinds of noodles. You basically pick all your ingridents and it'll be cooked up and brought to you. The lovely waitress is so kind and helpful! They serve alcohol here too! I feel it's pretty cozy. Not too many tables but I think it's great! I'll definately be going back again!! 5* though it's pricey... It's well worth it! Very happy customer.

OMG! What a place! What a food! Yummmyyyyy 10919 times! If you want to try the real Darwin food, here is the place! The rules of the house is that the minimum you have to weight is 350 g. $0.60 for additional 100g. Is worthy! You came to try and share with friends. Place very welcoming! Love it!

I went here last night with a big group (13 pax) and had a wonderful time. The choice of fresh veggies/meats/seafood/vego options etc are endless. Choose your ingredients, select some sauces, or just choose the chefs special sauce, option for complimentary noodles and hand it to the chef through a little window and in no time your meal will be ready. The lady we had for table service etc was also very lovely and attentive

Highly recommended! What a great concept!! Make your own noodles just how you like it!! A big thank you to Julie our waitress - she was wonderful with us and helped us enjoy our first wonderful dining experience at Magic Wok whilst holidaying in Darwin - thank you from Queensland 😀

Magic Wok is one of those hidden gems that's off the main street. I wasn't sure on first look, but after seeing all of the options I had for my dish I was amazed. It's a great place to go with friends on the weekend. I have been going to magic wok for over 10 years! Great service, fresh produce and full of flavor. I always take our visitor's here. HIGHLY recommended and an absolute must.

Food was nice and yummy. Could have had 4 or maybe 5 start but.... the gentleman was using his bare hands to sort out the vegetables and other things. Single use gloves are a couple of bucks per 100 pack. Please use them!

Great Asian dining experience where you get to pick your own ingredients and flavours then watch the show as their expert cooks wok-toss your meal to perfection over fiery heat! A great spectacle but the food is also fresh and top notch.

so so so sooo delicious! All DIY, pick your veggies, pick your meat - as many types & as much as you want, pick your noodles, & pick your sauce. hand through the window & watch them cook your chosen dish .. such a great concept, and cooked to perfection! although, can become expensive as it is done by weight but definitely worth it. is always busy, and can be a wait for the dish to be cooked, otherwise perfection!

After hearing good things from friends we tried the magic wok on a Saturday night for dinner. The hostess was warm and welcoming and explained to us as newcomers, how to select our vegetables, meats and sauces. It is a great concept and I guess you only have yourself to blame if all goes awry. I chose prawn, chicken, vegetables and laksa as my sauce with rice noodles. Total came to about 50 bucks for two meals; on the expensive side for Asian cuisine (it is roughly 23 dollars standard and an extra cost for additional weight). My laksa was cooked quickly and well- BUT it was super salty, to the point where I couldn't finish my meal. Also, one of my prawns hadn't been cleaned (poop still visible). Overall I was disappointed, mainly because it was expensive and I struggled through it. On the other hand, my partner enjoyed the variety of meats available and his satay selection was nice. Unsure if I'd come back after this experience!

Great selection, lot's of different foods to add, prices are not the best but it's a decent feed for your moneys worth. Try the game meats!!!

Wide variety of vegetables and the usual meat/seafood. Also exotic meat such as kangaroo, deer, crocodiles, emu, buffalo to try. Food is weighted then cook in front of you. Choose wisely as they charge ~$65/kg

Mix 'n Match. Try your hand at assembling your own ideal stir fry. Hard to go very wrong. Helpful suggestions available for staff and menu if you're a bit lost.

Really can't comment on the food as I have no idea on what you're going to have as you'll make different choices to me, and that's the fun!

Choose your own adventure!. Literally. This restaurant is tucked away behind some pretty intimidating industrial construction. Ignore this and keep on going! Once you enter, you take your silver tray (meat on one side, veggies on the other) and proceed in a circular motion around the veg/meat display on a culinary 'choose your own adventure'! It's light-hearted, it's fun, it's easy to get overly enthused and rack up a big bill! You pay by the weight of your tray, so choose wisely (or just all the expensive stuff). They have scales, though, so you can check regularly. There is a large selection of vegetables, tofu, meat, seafood (including some of the more exotic choices like crocodile, deer, emu, camel) to choose from, then you choose your sauces (yes, you can mix and match) and also choose with or without noodles. Noodles are free. Get noodles.
You can watch your dinner being cooked through a window (flames!!) before it is presented back to you with your 'chit' which shows how much you have to pay. Winner!
Now take a seat and enjoy your wonderful creation.
Lunchtime is $16.90 for (a minimum of) 300gms of ingredients, then the price goes up from there by weight. Again, noodles are free. If you can't eat it all in one sitting, you can take it home with you. Good times!

Interesting concept, great food & service. Firstly, ignore the industrial surroundings. this is a gem tucked away in a side road.

great concept, you pick your veg and meat from their very wide selection (a great selection of seafood, meats and even includes, buffalo, crocodile, emu & horse!!). price is driven by the weight of your selection, so fill up on the expensive items ;)

then you choose your sauces from a wide variety. the staff are very helpful in advising on best choices.

staff we're excellent, very friendly , chatty and welcoming.

well worth the visit
Food For Thought..
Great. I love how you pick your own veggies, meat and other goodies then hand it to the chef to cook up. By memory I think you pay by weight ? Tucked away in a arcade so it's nice and peaceful and the food is fantastic.

So many species! Delicious and fun! Yum!
