Review Exotic North Indian Cuisine - Darwin

Tanya Drew
Service was a little slow to start, but we hadn't booked and rocked up as they were opening. Over all the service was very attentive. The food was amazing, flavours great, but a little mild, so next visit we will ask for hot instead of medium. They don't advertise that they do Mango Lassi, but these were also very nice. View was beautiful

Food quality is very very poor for this price chicken πŸ— was uncooked , cheese bread was horrible, tandoor chicken was cold and samosas was frozen. But they have amazing customer service and location. Please fix the food quality, if you can’t cook hire someone for cooking, you need chef πŸ‘©πŸΌβ€πŸ³ We as a customer put hard and soul money for your experiment πŸ”¬ on food. This is not Indian food anyway. This is absolutely honest review. This is kind of food they serve , u will not return that place again.

Just Wow!!! We are still here eating... Staff are very accommodating. And the dishes are excellent beyond expectations! We will come back again.. very busy place but worth the waiting time.

Me and my husband visited the place year back, but didn't like much. Today we thought to give another chance but we were completely wrong. We ordered couple of Tandoori items, overpriced no flavour of Tandoor at all just coloured pieces of chicken. We asked the server to get our Naan's along with Platter as we were not going to have any curries, but still she missed it, and we have to explain same thing to another server. Pakoras were ok, but beer served on room temperature. It was lovely and perfect weather for typical Indian Tea in Darwin but that chai was also not even closer to ok taste. Now, we are definitely not coming back.

Loved loved loved the food here. Nostalgia of proper north indian cuisine. All taste are homely and divine. The surrounding is also the best thing about restaurant.

Too good. Super fulfilling meal! The Garlic and Butter Naan was great! All the curries are well seasoned with spices and super flavourful!

Reasonably priced and tasting dishes (Palak paneer $17). #lambroganjosh lamb was tender, spicy sauce, no salt (which I like), but more herbs and fragrance needed. #roti (3.5$ for 1) not sufficient for a dish. #mango #lassi was the only lassi on the menu. Licensed restaurant, very well located on #Cullenbay marina. Great for date and business meetings. Last number 14 bus is 5:40pm. 30 minutes walking distance from CBD.. take Number 4 bus to the end of Mitchell street and walk to #Cullen bay.

A good restaurant hidden away in Cullen bay! Generous portion sizes, great tasting food and decent ambiance.
Their naan breads are to die for and the best I’ve tasted so far in Darwin!

Delicious food overlooking the marina at Cullen Bay. Must try the Peshwari naan bread! Great service and very reasonably priced. Highly recommend!

My friend and I were recommend this place by a friend and I'm so glad because it was sensational. Between us we shared the vegetable samosas for entree, then for mains we had the butter and the punjabi (spinach) naan, butter chicken, lamb korma, onion rice and plain raita and it was a little bit of heaven in every bite, the meat was cooked perfectly and with so much flavour. The service was also great with very attentive waitress and short wait times for the food. Hands down the best Indian food I have ever tasted.

Good food but the butter chicken was not to our flavour. Garlic naan was amazing and the staff were very nice! Beautiful setting by the marina.
Chicken Madras
A Goan style curry prepared with traditional Madras spice and coconut, creating a unique flavour

Love love love Exotic North. Will happily go back time and time again. The food is exquisite, the service efficient, and if dining in the setting is beautiful looking out across the marina. Always a winner to take friends out to. Very well priced, particular the takeaway options, and a bonus that all curries come with rice.

The Chicken Madras is a particular favourite, and the Mix and Match, Garlic Cheese Naan and Mango Lassi are great too

We shared four dishes , none were great. Meat was over cooked and not tender like it should be. Disappointing. Entree was good, rice was tasty , good serving size .

I went to this establishment with a friend last night (19/07/16). While the service was friendly, the food isn't curry, it doesn't even look like curry.
We ordered a Butter Chicken and a Chicken Madras. Now I've travelled extensively and even visited the birthplaces of these particular dishes. While the spices are "in the ballpark" they fall short on flavour. My biggest grievance though is this, Curry is not just meat and sauce (for the most part) it has other ingredients, such as onion, capsicum, it also has pepper, chilli, bay leaves, cumin and coriander in addition to the masala.
My Madras, while the chicken was cooked through it was no better than Chicken in a pan with "Chicken Tonight" poured on top with a side of rice. Actually I think Chicken Tonight tastes better and it takes less time to make for a 1/4 of the price.

I raised my complaint saying this was "not curry", explained in detail what was missing that some masala powder, water, coconut milk and corn flour wasn't a substitute for real curry. Their response was that their menu was tailored for Darwin people because meat, sauce and rice is all that we apparently appreciate.

Save your money. Eat elsewhere. There are cheaper/better/nicer alternatives around.

My experience was very bad!
Friendly staff, but really pathetic food. I ordered chicken vindaloo and naan bread. I couldn't finish my food and left halfway.
Reasonably priced and good quantity but pathetic taste!
Don't Waste Your Money. We came here after reading the reviews and what a mistake. Service was attentive but the food was dreadful, the curry like a runny spicy gravy with small bits of lamb in it, the popadums like cardboard and the dips tasted like they were out of date and were inedible. We were sure the rice was out of a packet as there was no spice and it certainly wasn't basmati rice! We won't be eating here again and cross it off the list as another one of it seem quite a few Darwin Restaurant disasters.

Brilliant food, great service, cheap!. This is quite possibly the best value restaurant in Darwin. Rice is included with the curries (which cost only $13 or so!) - and the servings are large (I'm a big eater, and I find them perfect). The staff are very friendly.

This is the best Indian I have eaten at anywhere in Australia. Well done.

This is my favourite place! The food is delicious everytime! I've never been disappointed. The staff are lovely and provide the best customer service in Darwin! My favourite dish is the butter chicken and the Bombay aloo
Yummy
Superb- service, location but most of all the food - recommend to any curry lover - even a Pom like me!

Disappointed. Entree was a joke 4 tiny prawns the size of a 50c piece for $9 over cooked and tasteless !
Main was palak paneer , salty , could not taste any of the herbs & spices that should of made the dish , very light on the paneer!.

Fantastic cuisine. One of the best evening meals I have had here in Darwin in a while. Hiden little treasure. The Chefs specialty lamb dish was amazing. Attentive staff, great setting and really surprising prices. Be sure to book ahead as this place is going to become really busy. Huanam is totally over rated compared to this place, here the food is a lot more authentic with out the fuss, and with out paying silly money.

Darwinite. Best Indian cuisine I have had for years, beats hanuman in many ways, flavor, setting and especially price.

Curry-licious!. Have ordered takeaway 3 times now and have never been happier with Indian food! It's very delicious and great service - They even remembered my name!

Not only is the food fresh and delicious, it's very well priced. They don't take advantage of the location to boost the price. It's simply tasty food done well at great prices.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Fantastic. What a great find. The kitchen staff, headed by Raj, created great dishes (and modified the soiciness for non-hot guests) and the waiting staff of Laura, Manjeet and Louanna provided brilliant but unobtrusive servive. If you like Indian food, it's a must. Very reasonable proces and it's BYO so you don't get stung with high booze bills either.
Seriously recommended.....

Superb. Arguably the best Indian cuisine in town. Great service and reasonable prices.
