Review Dragon Court - Darwin

Great food. Has the feel of an old school Chinese restaurant. Would recommend if you want large quality serves.

Food was good, service was ok. Wasn’t worth the price tag or the hassle and I will not be returning. The restaurant is too small to seat as many people as they’re trying to. My partner and I felt as if we were dining with a group of blokes sat behind me and another couple sitting to the side. Every single word I could hear from their conversations making it an awkward sitting arrangement. The food came promptly, and the service was good. The food was tasty but nothing worth $26 for a main. We had the spring rolls and pork dumplings for entree, didn’t quite meet the mark. For mains we had Mongolian Beef, Cantonese Duck, and Curry Chicken with fried rice. Food was nice, the duck was good, not the best I’ve tasted but still cooked well. Upon going to pay, I presented an entertainment book voucher to be made out like it was the most complicated thing in the world. In the first instance to be told the voucher had been redeemed, and then to be told my digital membership would require a physical card. I am not a tight arse, and have no issue paying for food and service that’s worth the price tag, but I think Dragon Court is behind the times and not nearly up to the standard of the price they’re charging. For anyone looking to visit Dragon Court and use the entertainment book, I would suggest making sure you have your membership number available - this is not mentioned in the T&C’s however is a requirement in order to use the voucher. I won’t be returning in a rush.

Excellent service and extremely nice staff. We went there last night for Chinese New Year celebrations. The food are authentic and delicious. I felt like in a well managed fine dining restaurant in China and cannot tell the difference except we are speaking English. Definitely will come again. Strong recommendation.

I went to Dragon Court this week after almost two years, on a whim while at the casino with friends. What a difference two years makes (hint, at least 2 stars difference out of 5). We went there about 2 hours before closing time, and asked for a table for 5. There were clearly at least 2-3 large tables free, but they told us they were booked out and would call us that night as soon as table was ready, taking a mobile number. 45 minutes later, knowing that we had a bit over an hour before they were meant to close, we went over to check it out...4-5 free tables, including the ones we saw when we tried earlier. There was one group at the counter near the door, who wanted to pay and leave, but with no staff to process the payment. After a few minutes finally a staff member came over to process their payment, and we mentioned we were expecting a call. They immediately provided us with a tablet. One of our group was not too happy and made a number of snarky comments about not getting a call. The feedback was passed on, and another lady (manager?) came over to advise us that we had arrived *just* as a number of people had left their tables. We expressed some skepticism, which wasn't addressed as she made herself scarce. Not an impressive start to this dining experience, and they clearly forgot to call us, and lied when we enquired about it. An honest apology for the mistake would have been acceptable, rather than insulting our intelligence with lies. Onto the food. Now don't get me wrong, everytime I pass the entrance to Dragon Court, during a casino run, it smells amazing, and was no different this time. We ordered a number of dishes (see attached pics), including Wong's Chicken Curry, Pork in Peking Sauce, roast duck, and my perennial favourite in most Chinese restaurants, mapo tofu (pork mince and tofu). Once seated the waitresses who served us were pleasant and helpful, no complaints there. Starting with Mapo Tofu...what a disappointment. It was bland, and with no spice. It's especially disappointing, as last time I was here it was a flavoursome dish chock full of red dried chillies (none of which were present this time). The Wong's Chicken Curry was chalky and not pleasant, and the roast duck skin was chewy instead of crispy. The Pork in Peking Sauce was nice. Based on food quality, I'd give this place a 2.5 out of 5, maybe a 3 if I were generous. The poor initial experience, and the lying costs at least another star. I may try this place in another 2 years, but for now I'd recommend everyone to stay away.

Made reservation couple hours before-hand since we stayed at the hotel. Got seated at a 2 person table in the middle of the room in between a 5-person table and a 2-person table. We requested an empty 2-person table by the wall (at least had some space from other tables) but we were was told it’s reserved. Had egg rolls, crabmeat soup, pork chop and steamed fish. Other than the egg rolls could use more meat, all other dishes were pretty tasty and authentic. The Restaurant was small and not much space between tables. The 5-person party next to us ordered 3 dishes with sizzling plates, and the table on the other side of us also ordered a dish. Ventilation was not very good, so we felt like we were inside a smoke house and clothes all smelled like smoke. BTW, Until we finished our meal and paid our bill, that empty table we’ve requested in the corner was never filled.

Food was great but the service was not really what we are expecting. A server named Kamila denied us rudely on doing split bills meanwhile we just ate at Dragon Court a month and a half ago with 5 other friends and our bills were split into 6 equal parts. Its just amazing how inconsistent it is.

Dinner at Dragon Court Sky City Small Asian fine dining restaurant. Interesting menu Seafood San chow bow Steamed pork dim sim Salt and pepper fresh chilli bug tail Salt and pepper crispy skin quail Patagonian tooth fish with soy ginger and spring onion sauce. Combination fried rice The menu is very pricey but the dishes are generally of a high standard, service was a little slow, and the background oriental music a little annoying. But all in all the good outweighs the negatives here. Tooth fish was succulent and very tasty and good size serve. Quail was fantastic and cooked perfectly. The seafood San chow bow very nice served piping hot and fresh ,but a single serve at a group serve price is unjustified.

totally disorganized, we organised a Christmas Party for 50 only 30 turned up, they served food on all empty seats billed us for 50 and billed us for additional $500 for drinks we didn't ask for. very bad experience stay away from Dragon court daylight robbery.

The chicken curry and the hainan pork belly dishes were exceptional. <br/><br/>The service from the moment we walked in was a pleasure, attentive and conversational. <br/><br/>The only negative is the white wine list, which is very average and very expensive for wine that was popular ten years ago.

Very good restaurant, I almost didn't go because of previous comments, however I think they have learned the lesson (based on previous rating I guess), food was with us in less than 10 minutes (full order) service very responsive to our request, very good price and portions for the food, in summary looking forward to go next time.

Absolutely delicious, the best Chinese food I have had! Yes it's expensive but you do get your money's worth! Will be back :)
Food For Thought..
Very Nice But Very Expensive. We had a work dinner here and the food was absolutely beautiful, however I did manage to have a look at the menu and it's very expensive. Lucky we weren't paying that evening !! It's more like Chinese fine dining pitched at the patrons staying within the Casino complex or the Chinese high rollers who wouldn't even sneeze at those type of prices.

Am I being ripped !! $135 per kg of mud crab. Have dinner with workmate, order a steamed mud crab, told the waiter twice but turn up with a stir fry one, I requested to change it and finally it served about half hour later. Nothing special. Taste not real good. When i have the bill. Shocked! Just the mud crab $230. Other dishes nothing special with small protion. That is the most expensive mud crab I have in Australia. Beware that is no price showing for their live seafood and not even told us how big the the crab. Not worth to recommend. Simply don't go!! Extremely disappointed.

If you are looking for a typical Chinese restaurant, with crazy prices due to being inside a casino, then you've found your place! We had a great meal, wonderful service and good atmosphere but the prices are high due to the location. All in all I did like their food so that's an 'I like it' from me..

I was staying at SkyCity and didn't have transport so I thought I'd try Dragon Court. The service was friendly but ineffecient and slightly slow (I think every waiter/waitress in the restaurant must have stopped at my table during the meal. The dim sims were tasty but no better than something you might have in your freezer. The main I had, crispy spicy sweet and sour duck, was deep fried boneless duck smothered in sickly sweet sweet and sour sauce. The deep frying had pretty much destroyed by flavour the duck might've had. It was not at all spicy. Even the addition of a bowl of sliced chillies in soy sauce couldn't take the sweet edge of it. The desert, red bean roll with icecream topping, was red bean paste wrapped in filo pastry and deep fried, with a scoop of icecream on the side. The food was not terrible. If you like extremely westernised Chinese food, you'll love this place. But if you want something a bit more authentic, try somewhere else.
