Review Cathy's Place - Darwin

Cathy's place was recommended to us by a friend and boy it did not disappoint! One of the best mud crabs we have eaten in Australia! Cathy provided us with an unique dining experience from the minute we walked in I felt like Cathy was a friend of ours and we were eating at her home! We got the Singapore chilli crab and NT crab they were both delicious! We would highly recommend Cathy's place for those who are open to an homely experience and ready to get their hands dirty! 😬

Wanted Chilli NT mud craps and got it. Was delicious and fresh. It's pretty much a one lady show - you guessed it, Cathy. Dining here is an "experience"...it's like those restaurants where you pay top dollar to be intentionally be insulted. Except this is how it is at this place. Cathy mellows down a bit after but certainly a big contrast to your fine dining restaurants. Great place for those who have big egos and need some "grounding". You'll have a great laugh if you know what to expect, otherwise the customer service would appear initially as confronting. Remember you're here for the NT mud crabs. Due to staff shortages (i wonder why), she's serving mud crabs and fish only.

It is a lovely place for crabs. The crabs are big and fresh. My friends and I tried two flavors. They are both wonderful. The price is a little bit expensive but definitely worth it. I will visit this lovely restaurant in the future.

Lovely atmosphere for a sea food restaurant. Enjoyed the NT chilli crabs. A must to experience for seafood lovers.

Excellent mud crab - easily one of the best in Australia. We had the Singaporean Chilli version and it was delicious. The warm bun to soak up the curry sauce was also very tasty. Cathy was the perfect host. It was late Saturday afternoon and was a great way to celebrate after our long road trip from Katherine. Highly recommend

Always a pleasure visiting this joint. Cathy actually runs this place near single handedly giving you that curated hostess experience. It feels more like you are in her lounge about to get cooked for rather than a restaurant, which is a very warm feeling. The crabs are live and you can choose more than 10 sauces for them to be cooked in which is great. Comes with a good Ps: no vegetarian options

The location is good - sitting on a deck outside overlooking a quiet marina. We had booked but were treated rudely. The entrance is hard to find and looks like a cheap cafe. Need to get drinks separately inside and pay as you go although that was not communicated. You need to choose your own crab. In fairness the crab was cooked reasonably well in a Singaporean sauce but we asked for two crabs and were told we had to have one fish and one crab as they didn’t have enough - although we had booked. Furthermore, no veggies or salad as they didn’t have any and we were told we could eat that at home. The rice was cold and the service was novice. No finger bowls and the fish and crab were plonked down. Overpriced and poor value.

Read about this place and wanted to try the mud crab! Nice setting at the marina with a little deck. Owner Cathy is very friendly and takes you to pick out your crab. They are live crabs and you can have them with chilli, salt and pepper or ginger. Crab was amazing, so delicious. Costs about $89 a kilo but for a something we do so rarely was definitely worth it!!!

Mud crab restaurant in Darwin, this is the one!. We had the oyster chilli shots to start up a great night, while listening to Freedom Summers love gripping singing at the Charcoal Oven in Cullan Bay on Saturday night. Being a bit of a homemade foodie, if I go out, I want something that is something that I can’t cook at home so I’m prepared to pay top dollar for a taste undiscovered. Next, Steamrail beer, almost like a shandy on steroids same gene as Little creatures and a cool looking margarita. We shared the pork belly with glee over the crispiest delight and the sauce. Fortunately she was trying to lose some weight so I took one for the team. The seafood soup was next and tasty with just the right amount of seasoning and care taken with the ingredients. Then the grand finally I have been wanting an excuse to show off to my potential X wife, Mud crab served in a spicy subtle topping of love. Mud crab is my favourite Australia cruse and I’ve eaten defiantly not enough of this stealth warrior delicately.. <br/>I would recommend Charcoal Oven if you are looking for a hot date or a business woe of the great flavours of Darwin.

Darwin Style. Great meal. The duck looked delicious as did the barramundi. Tried the crocodile as an entree similar Texture to calamari (slightly chewy) not really recommended. The restaurant looks out on to the marina which is quite deceptive from the road. The service was very friendly ( by Cathy) if a little eccentric but probably 'Darwin' style. Recommended
