Service was absolutely amazing and the food was also perfect 👌 Thankyou for a beautiful dinning experience. The waiters and waitresses were very kind. I felt like home.
Ordered the beef curry, spiced cheese mushrooms and garlic narn. Beef was tender and tasty, and the mushrooms were deliciously spiced. Garlic narn was lovely. Overall A meal would reccomend.

Great find. Authentic Indian. We ordered Garlic Prawns & Meat Samosas (delicious) and shared Beef Madras as the main. The Garlic naan was perfect, fluffy & garlicky. The 1 serve of boiled saffron rice was very generous. They do not serve alcohol, but there is a drive through liquor store near the traffic circle down the road. It was really cold (Friday 12th July, the temp was 2C) and the restaurant was not warm enough, but all in all, a nice meal. $41 for two people & we were stuffed!
I was thoroughly impressed with the food. The butter chicken may have been the tastiest I've ever eaten. I'm keen to go back again before I leave town.
We stumbled into this restaurant after stuggling to find a vegetarian pub meal (hoping for drinks and dinner) but headed down the road and saw Taj Mahal. It's not often we find an Indian restaurant that makes our favourite entree 'Paneer Pakoras' and one that makes them as delicious as our favourite indian restaurant in Melbourne. The Pakoras were to die for, Palak Paneer is our go to dish and was probably the best we've had in a long time and the service was prompt which is a bonus. The pricing is a little high compared to other Indian restaurants we've eaten at, $5 for a serve of rice was a little excessive but it was a large portion which wouldn't be to bad if you were sharing it with more than two people in our case 1/2 was left over. In saying that the food was delicious and was worth the price. Only down side was that it was byo and the drink prices for soft drink cans were the price of a 2lt bottle at the supermarkt so we stuck with cold water.
Excellent authentic Indian food. We had the Garlic butter naans, butter chicken, egg plant, Lamb rogan josh and they were excellent. Can't fault it at all, easy parking and pleasant ambience. Only thing is wish they had better choices for kids's meals other than nuggets and fries.

I have to say this place offers one of the most authentic Indian cooking. The manager recommended some tips on the menu and they were all delicious. Will definitely go back.
Always enjoy eating here, well not here as I often get our meals takeaway. The food is always flavoursome and well made. The service is average, food can take a we while to be ready but such is the nature of buying Indian takeaway I have often found.

Do yourself a favour and go down to this little quaint restaurant and meet the friendly delightful staff and eat the most delicious, delectable, tasty, scrumptious Indian food you have ever had. We had an entire feast and every single thing was amazing. What we couldn't eat they let us take away. Incredible restaurant. They know what they are doing and they are absolute professionals. A brick veneer from the 60's on a corner that doubles as a restaurant, a surprisingly good one. Our expectations were low but well surpassed. Excellent Dhal Makani with Chicken Jalfrezi (asked for spicy and got it ... nicely spiced not OTT). The breads, a naan and a roti were delicious, thin and not doughy. Teally good. Service was discreet and pleasant. Decor clean and a bit eccentric, like dining in your Indian neighbour's house, but you don't know them. Fun and friendly
This was one of the most delicious meals I have ever eaten! I got the prawn korma and my boyfriend had the lamb korma, both were really creamy and flavoursome. We also enjoyed the sweet rice with nuts (can't recall the proper name of the dish). The waitresses were lovely, polite and efficient. Prices are also super reasonable, do not miss out on this restaurant when you visit Daylesford!
Absolutely awesome. Friendly staff, fabulous food, as good as (actually better than) any suburban Melbourne restaurant. My 7 and 5 year olds were wiping the serving bowls clean (disappointing because that's usually my job).

We called in for tea while we were in the area. Did not not disappoint. The servers were very friendly, the restaurant itself was spotless. The food was lovely, I had the butter chicken which was spot on and had plenty of chicken. My partner had the vindaloo which he enjoyed but expected it to be hotter as he asked for very spicy. I tried it and also didn't find it very spicy. Naan and rice were yummy too. Overall a lovely experience. We will definitely return. BYO is a bonus.
Spot on Indian cooking! Flavoursome with just the right amount of spices. We're always on the look out for excellent Indian food and this tops it all. We're from Melbourne and have coaxed owner to open in Melbourne - can't wait. Otherwise, we'll have to drive an hour+ to Daylesford to dine there - a very good reason to spend a weekend in beautiful Daylesford.
Absolutely brilliant! The best Indian food I've tasted in Australia. We asked for the food to be extra spicy and they delivered! And it wasn't just loaded with chili, it was deep authentic mouth-watering flavour through and through. The garlic tandoori prawns were excellent, as was the chicken jalfriezi and the masala scallops. Almost worth the trip to Daylesford from Melbourne for the food here alone!!!

This place is hands down the best place to eat Indian food in all of Australia! Service is amazing, waitresses are friendly and the manager remembers every single diner, even if visits are 6 months apart! Best of all – there is no compromise on food quality if there is heavy foot traffic or even a party! Highly recommended

I had the Butter Chicken special it was great value for money at $18.99 for meat & sauce, rice and 2 pappadums and really tasty. Had the garlic Naan too which was nice.
Our friends brought their food over from Electric Sitar so it was a battle of the Butter chicken. Taj Mahal won hands down. Electric sitar butter chicken sauce was more like a Madras and didn't have much flavour.
It's been exactly 2 months since we dined at Taj Mahal, Daylesford on New Year's Day before heading off to see the fireworks in Maribyrnong. We couldn't have made a better choice. The food and the experience was exquisite. Every dish appeared to have been crafted with love, and served with warmth. I would not hesitate to do the hour-plus drive from Melbourne to Daylesford again to dine here for another special occasion.

Just returned from Taj Mahal Daylesford, best Indian food this side of India. Service is the best, prices are extremely good. Won't get better food anywhere.
All the food we had was tasty and authentic as promised. Service was good. The food took a while to arrive but it was worth the wait.
This restaurant is BYO only so if you want a drink you need to bring it with you.
This Taj Mahal is actually a converted 1960's cream brick house. There was plenty of space and the nise volume was low so it's a great place for a chat over a good meal.

Ignore all the flashing lights outside and go in! Dropped in after not being impressed with the first place we had been recommended and we are glad we did! The food was superb! Flavoursome and authentic and cooked to order by spice level. Sharran that served us was just the most kind, sweet and elegant server we've ever meet, and could teach some Melbourne staff a thing or two!
Will be back next time we are in Daylesford to try more of the menu!

Amazing people (brought my daughter bunch of chocs moment they saw she was a bit cranky and were also willing to send someone to the market to buy juice for her ).. and amazing food.. you know its made with love with authentic flavours and not the usual curry powders and tinned tomatoes that most indian restaurants in melbourne resort too.
Daylesford...Again I am surprised.. We searched for a good restaurant in Daylesford on urbanspoon, this one had 100% of people like it. You wonder how is that possible. We tried it and now we know why!! Even if you thought it was too expensive, which by the way I do not at all, you still can't complain about it. Surprisingly (for a house and all) it has ambience and you feel comfortable. The waitresses are lovely and very attentive. The food well I can only say delicious! I had Lamb Vindaloo and my husband had Chicken Madras we were so impressed just a pity we live in Melbourne it would have been a favorite dinner location if we were closer. Thank You guys and we will be back.
Had takeaway here tonight, it was nice but over-priced - most expensive Indians we've ever ordered (seems to be the daylesford/hepburn springs way) and the taste did not justify the extra cost. Prefer our local. Naan was lovely however, large and chewy yum :-)

The Taj is certainly worthy of consideration when in Rome, and the butter chicken is good, but perhaps not the best I've had. Having said that, The Taj is a restaurant I'd happily return to. The Taj doesn't serve alcohol so feel free to bring it along :) highly recommended
ps. The Taj Mahal is actually located in a house, which isn't what you'll be looking for and a little hard to find

Easily the best Indian in Daylesford. By a mile. Don't be put off by odd spot- an old GP surgery!!!- the flavours are utterly authentic and complex , not the curry by numbers crap so widely found. Meat samosas are the best I've had since childhood feasts with Indian aunties.

Who would have thought the best Indian restaurant I have dined at to date would be in Daylesford.
The dining experience feels very cosy as it seems they have turned an ordinary house into a restaurant. The service was impeccable. The waitress made sure she had my order correct before leaving the table and she was never out of sight for longer than a minute. The staff were very attentive and brought out the entree first and the mains a few short minutes after finishing the entree.
The food was amazing. Best Indian food I've ever eaten. Their naan is so soft and fluffy.
I will definitely be returning to Daylesford - if only to eat at this wonderful restaurant again.

Great Indian Food. I went looking for great traditional indian and I got it. The food at the Taste of Spice was impressive, just for lunch. My daughter and me were very happy, great portion size for all meals. value for money and great flavours. The restaurant was spotless. And they used real cloth napkins. The beautiful indian lady that served us, was friendly and courteous. A must go, it will be my weekly venture.

Yum, so glad we booked for dinner here. Thank goodness for Google reviews too leading us to good places :-) As others have said, we didn’t expect to have such a delicious Indian meal in Daylesford.
Starter of samosas was satisfyingly spiced , potatoes and peas full of their own flavour, and every last morsel of the pastry was crisp and fresh (not a hint of excess oil nor old oil); my dream samosas. (This is from the perspective of a person who struggles to find decent samosas in our local area, just not enough demand, so instead we drive a fair way to our favourite place Babaji’s in Belgrave).
We didn’t enjoy the vindaloo as much but very much enjoyed the aloo bhaingan masala. Both were so fresh and full of texture and flavour. On that - our meals came out quickly after our order yet to me the taste telegraphed the highest care and attention to detail in the kitchen. Our garlic naan was dreamy as well. It was pillowy yet crisp and bitey and carried a rich mellow garlic flavour , and still managed not to feel oily (how ??). Finally our pea pulao was light yet full flavoured (check out the photo - not your usual peas pulao and look at those delicious basmati grains).
Just yum.
Finally we loved the warm and gracious interior. While we were seated at a front window on a cold evening , we felt no chill or drafts at all and in fact never realised it had rained til we stepped outside after dinner. The candle light, table settings and attentive service felt special , and we enjoyed thoughtful touches such as the warmed plates. Worthy of a special occasion but too good to reserve only for special occasions!

Amazing food. One of the best Indian Restaurant food we had ever tasted in Australia. We went there after seeing all the reviews and also been told by one Indian couple who met us while walking around Lake Daylesford, they also recommended this restaurant as Must try while staying at Daylesford and Yes!! Its the best choice specially we being vegetarian couldn't find any good vegetarian option there but food at Tajmahal was fresh and delicious.
Fantastic Food with lots of vego options. I really like the chicken vindaloo at the spicy level. An amazing flavourful kick. Pani puri was soso. Goat curry was generous serving size and the naan was fresh!
This has got to be the best Indian restaurant service I’ve ever had. Food was delicious, naan wasn’t from a tandoori oven, however, still good naan.
The curries had good flavours and generous with meats and veggies at a good price.
Definitely will revisit.
Had the masala puri as entree and it was absolutely delicious! Refreshing and an appetite starter. Our three main curries were stunning too. If you’re up for something different than a roganjosh and vindaloo (which were also two that we ordered), try out Shahi Paneer. A creamy curry with Indian cottage cheese. Slightly sweet, creamy but full of savoury flavour. Naan was light and buttery. Service was quick and polite. Didn’t expect to enjoy such a great and authentic Indian meal here in Daylesford but so glad to have experienced this.
Tastiest fresh Mushroom Matter, saffron rice, papadums & tamarind sauce I’ve eaten in years. Large portion. Clean , warm interior. All the staff were friendly and attentive with service. 🙏❤️
