Great food and great people! Tried their new Asian menu. It was great to satisfied my cravings for Malaysian food! Highly recommended... don’t forget to try their coffee
We had breakfast and it was delicious. Their meat (bacon and chorizo) produce are from the owner's farm and they were really tasty. The chocolate and walnut biscuits were to die for....and although i didn't have it, apparently their brownie is amazin too. Coffee delicious, great service and lovely decor!
What a great experience we had today. Had a coffee and savoury muffin. Coffee muffin were delicious and front of house guy was friendly and told us about the cafes background. Great experience will be back again
My new fav cafe! The vegetable salad was AMAZING, loved the drink variety and fresh goods growing outside. Highly recommend 😀
We had lunch and dinner there and each time the food was delicious and wonderfully presented.
Support small businesses in yr neighbourhood- hubby and I started walks for our daily exercise and stopped to get coffee from Balwyn Providore. Lovely young couple always greets with a smile AND we discovered some amazing authentic Malaysian nibbles, so good that you can think you are in Msia - roast pork bun, peanut mochi and some of their delicious lunch menus such as Hakka pork is just so tasty. Recommend all to come try and also to support them. Always heart warming to see so many locals every time we are there.
This is a hidden gem in Deepdene/Balwyn area! From the outside it looks just like a normal cafe but their Asian lunch menu (available everyday) is the best Hakka style Malaysian food in Melbourne. Quality, nutritious and delicious food, you get what you pay for! Definitely coming back again!
Love this place. I had the Thunder tea rice and Goodlife bowl. Both very refreshing and packed with flavours. There were plenty of options on the menu - Western and Asian. I would recommend anyone to try this humble cafe.
I absolutely love this place as it is the perfect textbook farm to table restaurant , everything here is extremely fresh and you can tell what your eating is organic and nutritious. Love the smash avo here and the odd pasta dishes they do as a special
A very nostalgic cafe/restaurant in the quiet strips of Deepdene. The Providore is very well disguised on the facade until you walk into the premise, we were greeted with a rustic atmosphere, with warm mood light and a high bench top counter filled with backdrops of wines collections.
The menus was pretty clear cut as breakfast serves as all day menu and lunch are an exotic ranged of Asians fare. We ordered the Angus beef burger, Braised Duck with ginger sauce with rice and Hakka pork belly with noodles.
Presentation was neat and serving is amazingly generous for value, Flavours and quality is of great authenticity’s.
This is probably one of the restaurants in Melbourne that brings pride to the Hakka community, as Hakka cuisine is rarely found outside Malaysia.
I would highly recommend The Providore to all Asian food lovers, cos I will be going back for their Smoke Tea rice, which is another rare delicacy of Hakka.
First time back since the change in ownership and was pleasantly surprised. Still the same great ambience, but new menu now featuring a bend of cafe classics & Asian specialties. Was a little unsure what to order so we tried a meal from each - the goodness bowl & the braised pork belly with rice- both delicious, servings generous, price reasonable. Coffee & service also great, staff were friendly & knowledgeable. We left feeling well fed and will be happy to return!
Like very little venue with an area for groups past the front room. Food was tasty and inviting. Menu was large enough for a good selection amongst the group. Coffee and Chai was delivered and specialities were catered for well. Children were well catered for. Hostess was inviting and welcomed us with a smile. A very nice breakfast venue.
The Providore Swan Bay Farm is a food lover’s destination, a well-known meeting hub for locals and food enthusiasts alike, based in the heart of Deepdene, Melbourne.
Committed to a paddock to plate ethos The Providore’s mission is simple - to educate others on the importance of a more sustainable life, supporting like-minded, passionate local producers and eating well.
The weekend brunch menu is particularly exciting with one side featuring Modern Australian options and the other side featuring Asian options.
We dined in the evening with a group of friends some months back. We pre ordered the Hakka duck. We also ordered a host of dishes when we were there including the chicken wings, dumplings, chicken curry, Yong tao fu and lamb curry. Each dish came with your choice of rice or egg noodles. The egg noodles were deliciousa d al dente. The chicken curry was spicy and flavoursome and it was my stand out dish. Lamb curry was a little watery and not that good. Chicken wings were crispy. Now about the so-called star, Hakka duck. It was a whole duck braised in preserved vegetables. It was a big serve and it came with 4 serves of rice. The duck was tender but I found it overwhelmed with so much preserved vegetables, in fact the chopped up duck was covered with these vegetables. All we could taste were the salty preserved vegetables. We were a little disappointed. Overall most of the dishes were a little salty but the duck was very salty. Luckily we had free of water.
Ivanhoe
Came here for dinner the other week. Food was really yum, we had the chicken wings, dumplings, pork belly with noodles and beef curry on rice. All dishes were excellent. Coffee is really good too! Service was friendly and pleasant. We will be back again soon. This place is well worth a visit.
A place that I least expected to find such good egg noodle, Yong Tau Foo, Hakka Pork Belly and Nam Yue Chicken Wings. Those are all my favourite dishes and I could find it all in one place. The sauce for the egg noodle is what it should be. Enough saltiness and not overly sweet. Noodle cooked al dente. Hakka Pork flavourful. Nam Yue Chicken Wings was good but that is just because I love fried Chicken Wings.
I’d say try it all for yourself! This place won’t disappoint. While you are at it, order yourself a cup of flat white to go with the Asian fares.
With clear emphasis on fresh, farm to table ethos, The Providore Swan Bay Farm certainly highlights the importance of quality produce in creating a delicious meal.
Our mains were generally well-executed and their signature soufflé was nothing short of astounding. It’s too bad their coffee didn’t quite live up to the Melbournian standard we’ve become so accustomed to.
Comforting ambience, soft music. The favourite coffee shop for the locals. I visited The Providore as I heard about the Hakka - Chinese food available now for lunches (except Wednesday) & dinners (thu-sun). Tried the Nam Yue Chicken wings - it’s very yummy, I like the balanced flavours, the fermented bean curd flavour was not too overpowering. The pickles accompanying it was a good touch.
The chicken noodle soup with fish paste was also very good, the broth flavourful yet light. I couldn’t finish all the noodles as there were too much for me! Serving is large.
Come by the Providore if you want to try something different. It’s in the vicinity of Balwyn.
A contemporary lodge style cafe. Service was attentive and informed. Interesting variety of quality Asian and nonAsian dishes to choose from the menu. I liked how the menu also could cater for all ages and had food intolerance options.
There is nothing more amazing than a lazy weekday brunch with good company! The Providore popped up on my map and the menu looked awesome! Outdoor and indoor seating available.
Coffees were amazing. Service was welcoming and prompt.
The smashed avo on toast with chard corn, goats cheese, roasted proscuitto wrapped asparagus ($17) - was huge, and the asparagus and goats cheese made it uniquely different from the popular smashed avo trend around Melbourne :)
The G-luxe cacao pops, housemade coconut sorbet, vanilla & coconut tapioca, cherries (no cantaloupe on the day, so berries instead) was refreshing and made for a light delightful brunch :)
We were then allowed to continue lounging around chatting away as they weren't too busy :)
Will be back
Great little cafe which also sells gourmet food products (jam, biscuits, pasta and kitchenware).
Staff are always friendly (especially in the early morning!) and coffee is good.
Food is delicious “goodlife bowl” and the selection of sandwiches etc.
I dined as a guest of Providore on the weekend and everything was absolutely mind blowing. Produce is sourced from their Swan Bay farm and other ethical suppliers and their well thought out menu follows a paddock to plate philosophy. You can see veggies and herbs growing outside in their cute little courtyard. I was in love with all the gourmet goodies for sale in the cafe and beautiful warm ambiance.
I chose to try the luxe cacao pops with banana parfait as a sweet version of granola. The dish was perfectly conceived and executed and gobsmackingly delicious. My partner got the lamb shoulder omelette which was easily the best tasting omelette I’ve had.
We also tried the Roman baked gnocchi with eggplant and sweet and salty cashew nuts. This was such a special dish for me and such an interesting and unique way to serve gnocchi that is different to the traditional construct we always see. The flavours here were outstanding. I don’t recall enjoying a dish so much in a long time. Fresh ingredients combined with something different to surprise and delight the palette renders this cafe utterly exceptional in my book
Happy times in Balwyn ...
Corner block, Mural on the side wall, rustically converted like an old grocer "providore" store.
Limited Brunch Menu, will try next time. A lot to like about their pastry, had one of the plain Croissant with a Short Black $3.50 8/10. Although I did not find their $3.80 Latte exceptional 6/10, Adore Coffee Beans and flaming Orange La Marzocco ...
A few attempts to find a cool cafe to hang out and I think this could be the one, we'll explore further. JT-27/11/2017.

I recently had an absolutely delicious dining experience at The Providore (previously Scarvelli). Their breakfast menu is concise and considered with all dishes thoughtfully constructed and using only the best produce from their Swan Bay Farm.
I chose the cacao pops with banana parfait and berries. In one word? Delicious! Definitely a healthier take on a granola that wasn’t too sweet but still had a nice chocolaty flavour.
My brunch buddy chose the braised lamb shoulder omelette with cheese, rocket and relish. I pinched about five mouthfuls of this dish is was so so tasty. Next time I come to the Providore and I’m after something savoury, I’ll definitely be choosing that! The lamb was so tender and the little bit of salty cheese was divine with the eggs.
Overall, a fantastic brunch! Lovely staff and a great setting (the outdoor courtyard is a great spot on a nice day).
Had my 60th birthday drinks at The Providore...had approx 40 ppl attend....what a fabulous day!! Fabulous food, great attentive staff, an overall amazing experience!! Clare, the proprietor, was so helpful...nothing was too much trouble!! Thk you for making my birthday a great day! 🎈🎂🎉
Lamb shoulder omelet is interesting and delicious menu item. Pleasantly surprised by the smashed avo. Strong fragrant coffee brew. Pleasant rustic decor
Really great cafe located amongst the shopping strip on Whitehorse. Popped in early Sunday morning, so had a great range of seating options but it filled up quite quickly. Menu looks great - ordered a skinny cappuccino and the smashed avo with a poached egg. The avocado was great - a huge serving which is always appreciated. The coffee was good too. Definitely give it a go if you're in the area!

Scarvelli Cafe has undergone an evolution. Now known as The Providore Swan Bay Farm, they’ve branched into dinner twice a week, but hopefully dinner service will expand. The interior now feels even more warm and rustic than before, and although it’s now winter, their covered courtyard has heaters to keep us nice and toasty.
Admittedly, it's not often that I venture this far north east in Melbourne, but a business associate had chosen the venue for lunch, so here I was! What an absolutely fantastic little cafe serving up amazing ethnically sourced food. I had the Barramundi and my associate had the beef sausage. Both dishes were incredible, so full of flavour.
The coffee was excellent and the service was friendly and courteous. I definitely hope to visit again.

Attended the providore a little while ago on a whim, it seems quite quaint and pokey but has larger seating around the back. We started with coffees which were good and sat down to corned beef, cheddar and bone marrow croquettes, and slow cooked lamb shoulder with silverbeet, parsnips and a beetroot chutney. The croquettes were delicious and would only have been improved by a larger amount of sauce and sundried tomatoes. The lamb was unexpected, coming in a cube shape with crumbing on the outside. None the less this was delicious too although maybe a little dry, the beetroot relish amazingly sweet and tangy. The food presented to us was well worth the money and could quite easily be more expensive elsewhere.
Went back recently and saw the menu had changed much to my disappointment. I had the spanner crab on toast - my suggestion would be to decrease the amount of rocket on the toast because it prevents you seeing and tasting the crab
very nice place with beautiful ambitient, the rabbit risotto and chicken avo toast was lovely.Steak sandwich cooks just to perfection. Although they forgot our coffee and long waiting time for the meal to be serverd it was overcome by the amazing food. Coffee was good, if you not big eater the portion will be sufficient to share .
The food was absolutely brilliant. It's still the same owners as it was with Scarvelli but with more focus on their own farm. The coffee was very good, ordered the steak sandwich and the gnochi and they were just quality. They also have some of their take home meals in the fridge, so convenient!
Quite an intriguing cafe name located opposite Deepdeen Park on Whitehorse Rd, Balwyn in a little farmhouse setting. After browsing through their website, I have come to learn about their deep commitment to support through sourcing food from the local producers.
This place has one of the most interesting and delightful cafe food I have come across so far. We were all impressed with all the lunch items we ordered on this occasion.
Their cafe menu was enticing and the actual food served was packed with thought, originality and beautiful variety of ingredients with quality taste in every dish we tried.
Special mention to their hearty bowl of Beetroot soup of the day that was beautifully served with that earthy reddish colour and sweet taste.
I think we have found something quite special here. Big cheers to the English Chef who made this place such a memorable place that we wish to come back to when possible.
Bought their brownie and pork crackle snack for takeaway which was delicious too. Lucky for us, they even spoiled us with some Nutella muffins to take away.
Noted they also open for dinner on Thursdays and Fridays.
Really impressive with the superb food, friendly staff, thank you again for your kind hospitality!

An utterly superb dining experience. Great meal, great coffee, excellent service, pleasant dining atmosphere and decent prices. Reasonably short preparation time too, and a pleasing selection of dishes on offer.
Oh my goodness!!! The barista who works at the Providore deserves awards for the fantastic coffees he delivers! Had Soy Chai Latte, and a cappuccino. Both were basically perfection. If only I lives closer. Also had the avo smash. Superb presentation and tasted so good as well. Highly recommend!!!
What can I say. A rare new gem, just a little out from the bustling main strip of Balwyn, making this new cafe one to continue to return too over and again. Because it is "just down the road" from the cbd of Balwyn it give such a nicer atmospher. All of the produce is conscience friendly and the merchandise is equally as impressive. I haven't even gotten to the food or staff as yet. I just happened to walk in looking for some take away and was greated by 2 very accommodating hosts. I ordered the smashed avocado to go and was delighted to find an extremely generous portion. This is in comparison to all the cafes who put smashed avocado on their menus and serve you up half an avocado with a bit of goats cheese sprinkled on top. Oh no. This dish was breakfast to die for and one that I highly recommend. A meal in itself without the added egg. As I got chatting with the staff I found out a bit more about the establishments ethos which boasts a paddock to plate philosophy in harmony with environmentally conscious habits. So friendly they both were that we talked about the very delicious looking wine list. Although not tempted at 2pm on this day the staff offered me tastings as I was quering them. If you are looking for the next fantastic place for brunch then you have come to the right place at The Providore. See you soon.
Been here a few times. Food is consistently good and coffee also. Love the fresh farm food philosophy (just wish they were doing more organic stuff) wait staff can be up and down but the courtyard on a sunny day with a beer and decent meal👌👌 These guys are on point with their specials, always try them and it's always good!
I had the braised beef rib, it was beautiful.
The meat was absolutely falling off the bone, super juicy and just lovely flavours.
I also loved that it was served with mashed carrot and swede instead of potato.
The coffee was excellent also.
My only gripe is 2 of the staff seemed soooo not bothered to be there that day and we thought were a little bit rude, but otherwise good service from one waiter in particular who stood and had a quick chat and asked how our day had been which was nice.
Another cafe in the suburbs, close to Snow Pony. It's not a fancy cafe, but good enough for a weekend brunch. My favourite dish is the good life bowl, very healthy option for me yet tasty and filling. Soup is not that great, a bit like can soup, maybe it's just that day. Coffee a bit on the bland side but acceptable. Price and portion all quite reasonable.
What a cost little coffee shop. The coffee was pretty damn good. I ordered the lamb shank pie with salad. The pie by itself was very tasty, so good. The salad in my opinion was not that nice, maybe because the pie was perfect as is. Anyway great place and definitely worth checking it out.
Scarvelli cafe has always been a favorite of ours, but we have noted a definite downturn in the standard of service received on the last few visits 😣. When you give the table their menus don't just turn and walk away, first question should be can I get you any drinks for starters!! When you have to order a coffee/drink when you order your food you can safely assume you will be drinking your coffee etc while eating your meal which will mean it's luke warm by the time you finish it.
All the meals we ordered were very tasty, the size of the advo serve was very generous but given as an extra it is $5 it probably should be. Possibly could have been little more salmon and little less rocket on the salmon dish, but was tasty. Our biggest complaint was that at least 15 mins after we had finished our meals we watched wait staff come out to the courtyard (where we were sitting) a total of 8 times and not once did they come near our table to clear or take any more drink orders. We ended up leaving with our empty plates still on the table and a second drink unordered! We also watched a couple leave after no one returned to take their order. Staff wake up, customers pay your wages 😕
Scarvelli Cafe is a small cafe in Balwyn, easily accessible by tram 109. It prides itself on the use of locally sourced produce, in particular from the Swan Bay farm that is owned by the same people. The cafe have actually release their own recipe book; I was lucky enough to have a quick flip through it when I visited, and it felt like very informative with the details on ingredients and the background on the cafe and farm. You could tell a lot of heart had been put into the recipe book, and the effort taken to not only provide recipes ideas for people, but also to inform and educate.
This cafe is a great spot to go into within the balwyn area. Limited menu & not a lot of sweet options, but the food is very flavoursome. I had the granola which was nicely complimented with panna cotta & rhubarb puree. My friends all had lunch options which they found delicious.
Loved this place! My friend and I sat in the beautiful and cozy outdoor area with the portable heater on. The staff were amazing and always made sure their customers were happy and satisfied. Excellent customer service. Had the smashed avo and it is well within my top 5! The feta and generous tomato toppings made it special for me. Can't wait to try something different soon!
We sat in the sun drenched courtyard which was lovely even in the winter cold as there were heaters to keep us warm. The cappuccino was perfect in strength and in temperature. Was very happy with my choice of the paprika fritters! The flavours were great and would definitely recommend adding the cured bacon. Although the dishes were not the most exciting we have had, the produce used in each and every dish are of the highest quality from their farm. Service was great with staff coming over to check on us regularly.
Love this cafe and always come here with my friend who lives close by. Coffee is amazing and love the vibes and decor of the entire cafe. They also have really yum muffins and banana bread. Only downside are the food options as they are quite limited and expensive however, when I have eaten here, it was very delicious.
The new menu is absolutely brilliant. The Swan Bay Lamb Shoulder is exceptional. I loved the pea purée real sets of the meal with the relish. I will be back age for another lamb fix.
On the courtesy of Carlos, I was invited to dine at Scarvelli Cafe to try out their refined paddock-to-plate dishes. Located on Whitehorse Rd, Deepdene, getting to Scarvelli is easily accessible via the 109 tram. Upon being greeted, we were seated at a specially prepared table for us which was pleasing.
Situated on a corner off Whitehorse road, this café is the place to fuel your body. The quality of the food is superb, with vegetables grown in the outdoor area and ingredients that are locally sourced and seasonal. Also, the coffee is perfectly crafted and will keep any coffee lover talking. I visited this café before the new menu came aboard so the food may be different but similar. We ordered an iced coffee and a latte to start the morning. The iced coffee was refreshing........
Wholeheartedly recommend this place. Though it's walking distance for me I'd often drive by en route to somewhere else and pick up a coffee. Friendly service and great food.
Have visited a few times, a good local hang out with friendly staff and reliable menu. I don't drink coffee so I can't comment. Nothing ground breaking, but then being in Melbourne we are pretty spoilt for choice. Reliable brunch spot :)
I really enjoyed the anbience of this place. Nice coffee. I enjoyed the meal as well.
Something that caught my attention was the silverware. It was not "normal" in design.
A bit far from city, but it was worth the distance. Nice brunch place to escape from a hectic city. Me and my friend at the backyard and thank God the weather was very friendly that day. I ordered the "wood fried salmon frittata" and my friend ordered the wagyu burger. The frittata was just ok, but the burger is super yum!! Also, you can mix up some juice of your own choice.
The coffee is spot on perfect for me. Consistently wonderful with great cocoa aroma and more traditional dark roast flavor in oppose to my recent trendy café's venture into sweet berry or acidic finish. Not sure if this cafe also offer those kind of coffee because I simply love the simplicity of they perfect dark roast.
Smashed arvo would easily match some of the best in any cafés around...which pleases missus.
I've tried their wood fire salmon. Not really to my liking. Didn't work for me as I expected a succulent full piece salmon flesh but instead, I got smashed salmon meat similar to ones I get in a can.
Service is good. Ambience inside the cafe is way better than what the frontage promise. Not mind blowing but nice.

A cheery comfortable cafe with flavoursome food and a newly revamped food menu. There wasn’t a drinks menu when we visited however the usual range of drinks were available along with a variety of juices that you can mix and match yourself. Service was friendly however we did have to wait a long time for our food to arrive (during a non busy period), so perhaps there are still some kinks in the kitchen that need to be worked out.
I always enjoy a breakfast that's a little bit different. Especially when they try not to be too cool. I don't think I could make such a delicious open omelet at home, but then again I'm not a very cook!
Are old faithful for breakfast. When we want to go somewhere relaxed with good coffee, entertaining staff and classic reliable food it is off the scarcely we go. No doubt we will continue to keep coming here in the future.
i love the paddock-to-plate and farm-to-table philosophy that so many australian cafes and restaurants embrace. not only does it promote good quality + organic produce along with all of the nutritional benefits that that brings, but i also love that most times it is supporting local, small + australian-owned business people. i take my hat off to all small business owners in australia – it takes so much hard-work and dedication, with a true focus on customer experience.
I love the food here at Scarvelli! Their bowls are healthy, full of vegetables and full of flavor. I've never had a vegetable bowl done so well. The coffee was average, but I will definitely be back for the food!
A brilliant find in Balwyn. You will want to order most of the menu, and that's exactly what we did. The breakfast salad was a highlight, especially when you can turn up the awesomeness with a steak on top of your breakfast. Breakfast burger was a favourite for Husband. Will definitely be back soon.
Scarvelli is a neighbourhood cafe, which seemed to be popular with families around the area during our visit. The menu is not the most extensive, however, the food was of high quality and reasonably priced, with most breakfast options below $17.5. I ordered the Wood Fired Salmon - the salmon was fresh, and I enjoyed the texture provided by the crisp polenta gems.
Paddock to plate is one of the latest buzz concepts in Melbourne at the moment and it’s great to see more cafes adopting this philosophy. Over on Whitehorse Road in Balywn, Scarvelli Cafe is really taking this concept to the next level , sourcing the best quality local produce on the market, much of it being from local farmers and even their very own backyard!
I absolutely love this place. It is very big and very 'homey'. I had the salmon salad and it was absolutely delicious! I was quite surprised that it was very empty however but I would definitely go back there.

Nestled in the beautiful suburbs of Balwyn just minutes outside of the city, you could easily overlook one of the most interesting cafés in Melbourne. Having opened in September 2013, Scarvelli has been serving delicious food to a very health conscious clientele. Scarvelli use the fascinating concept of farm to plate, something I must admit I was unaware of. You see in this model, most of the food that you eat comes directly from a farm owned by restaurant. In this way, many variables can be tweaked (temperature for food growth etc) and there’s a direct accountability of where the food is coming from with a good contol of the kinds of fertilizers being used. If this means better farming methods for a more sustainable landscape then I’m all for it!
Perfectly cooked, oozy runny eggs are always good but it was the crumbing of the dukkah eggs that won us over, imparting both sensational texture and flavour. The sweet cauliflower flavour in the velvety-silky puree was very pronounced and while my sister thought it was too creamy, my taste buds were in utter heaven.
Breakfast is just one of those happy times. When you wake up and get so damn excited because it’s time to eat again!
Great way to start the day at Scarvelli in Balwyn.
Brekky burger, omelette, good life bowl. What a combo. More details on the blog.
Recently Miss P and I ventured out to Balwyn to pay Scarvelli Cafe a visit for brunch. We initially had a larger group with Mario and K as well but after a 4.30am wake up to line up for Lune, Mario and K dropped out and waved a white flag, leaving just Miss P and me. Located on Whitehouse Rd in Balwyn it was a perfect location for the locals. It had a few tables on the side walk so it's doggy friendly or for those of us (like me) who like to avoid hayfever I opted for indoors.
Having been up and down Whitehorse Road nearly everyday for a few years now, I’m still finding new places to try. Scarvelli Cafe is one of the many cafes on this long stretch of road but is located further down from the main hub in Balwyn. Scarvelli prides itself on the Paddock to Plate philosophy, sourcing fresh, seasonal produce from the owner’s farm on the Bellarine Peninsula at Swan Bay for their dishes. This exciting concept, combined with Industry Beans coffee makes for a very appealing visit to Scarvelli.
Came here for breakfast and am regularly here for their delicious coffee and my breakfast was fantastic.
Attempting to be healthy I ordered the 'goodlife bowl' and was worried that I would receive this tiny meal with only greens and a poached egg, but it was really substantial and soo delicious. My friend ordered eggs with sides and they were super generous on the sides unlike some of the more famous and hipster cafes closer to the city and she seemed to enjoy her breakfast too.
They do pretty good coffee here too. Not the best ever, but its good...probably the best in the area.
The service here is generally pretty good, coffees are a little bit slow in the morning but probably due to the fact that it is quite busy.
Definitely will return soon
Last weekend, hubby and I had the pleasure of brunching at Scarvelli Café in Deepdene, a café that takes pride in their coffee as well as their food. They adopt a paddock to plate philosophy, so much of the produce is actually sourced from the owner's farm. As neither of us were coffee drinkers, we decided to opt for a juice instead. We chose 'revitalise', a blend of apple, celery, ginger and lemon, and it was exactly like its name - refreshing and invigorating.
The food was delicate yet hearty but fresh and just the right amount of jazzy while still giving of simple wholesome vibes... Sounds impossible but it isn't.
It was also a more creative menu than the majority of cafes, and the coffee was top notch.
I had the smoked cooked salmon salad and my sister had the avocado smash on bread, both were divine.
Posted by Chasing a Plate in Balwyn on 13/07/2015. Chasing a Plate dined as guests of Scarvelli Cafe. At Scarvelli Cafe, the team are passionate about the Paddock to plate philosophy. This means quality ingredients straight from the owner’s farm, onto your plate, for your Instagramming pleasure. Located amongst the quiet suburban streets of Balwyn, you will find locals sipping on an Industry Beans blend and enjoying a fuss-free brunch. The space is cosy and warm, with a dog-friendly courtyard and an emphasis on quality beans scattered around the cafe. We visited on a freezing day and what could be more comforting than copious amounts of carbs to warm the belly?

Who can say no to an invitation like this?We came to Scarvelli Cafe on a rainy Saturday morning for breakfast with the girls and they absolutely loved it.
Best coffee. Been coming here ever since they're open. Coffee and food never disappoint. Always great services. One of my favourite brunch places. 👍🏼
The avocado smash with hummus was delicious! However, the chai with coconut milk was not the best. Perhaps it was my own fault for ordering coconut milk, but the brand they used had separated and was quite watery, making it unpleasant to drink. But all in all, definitely a solid cafe with great potential if they get their drinks right!

Its All About The Food
+4.5
Having recently moved to Balwyn this has become my mainstay cafe. The staff are great, the coffee stands up against some of the best in South Melbourne, CBD or Fitzroy. The ambience is good.
But the food........ Amazing. I'm a huge fan of protein based breakfasts, but eggs and bacon with nothing to cut through the layer of fat they leave in your mouth aren't my thing. Scarvelli has this covered, whether it be the fantastic chill eggs and ham with the substantial yet not heavy roti are divine on a weekend morning. The Dukkah eggs equally do not disappoint and for those with a lighter appetite the Brekkie bun with it's butter sweet brioche bun set against the bacon, relish and avocado are devine. For those arriving for brunch/lunch the soup of the day has yet failed to be anything more than great and the wagyu burger again with their signature brioche bun is delight against the creamy cheese and fantastic patty.
I really should try somewhere else, but with food and coffee this good it's hard to justify.
It’s not often that I travel out to the Eastern Suburbs, firstly because the vast majority of my family and friends live out west as I do and secondly because it means I have to cross the city and really, on my days off work I don’t want to spend any more time in the car than what I absolutely have to. However, I’m very quickly changing my mind on the trip out east as I’ve now discovered a very alluring reason to visit and it came in the form of Scarvelli Café.
Tried Scarvelli today, because the original planned cafe doesn't do EFTPOS. Was a nice discovery for the area. Simple, enjoyable healthy brunch menu options. Only tiny downside was the weak Prana Chai, I've had it elsewhere and also at home many times, it's normally great chai. Worth a visit.
The beef patty was thick and juicy, with a slice of jack cheese melting into the charred crevices. Layered on top were the tangy-creamy duo of mustard and a heavy dollop of special sauce, and vibrantly fresh salads. Even the chips were amazing; they were golden perfection with a centre of mashed potato, generously salted and served with a side of pungent mustard aioli. This is definitely one worth breaking the diet for.
Enjoyed the Dukkah poached eggs but would just suggest they put some more seasoning in the crumb mixture. Great coffee and enjoyed all other aspects of my meal
Balwyn gem. This unassuming Balwyn cafe is, without a doubt, well worth traveling to. The menu offers a selection of breakfast and lunch items that make choosing difficult - every one sounds delicious! I chose chilli eggs and my husband chose poached eggs with sauted greens and hollandaise. Both were fresh and delicious. The staff are helpful and friendly and the service is quick. The atmosphere is warm and cosy. Try it - you'll like it.
Went to Scarvelli on Saturday with friends for lunch. What a great place. Pity it isn't doesn't have a licence. Service was great and coffee was brilliant. Look forward to my next lunch at Scarvelli.
A Hidden Jem. Great local cafe, tasty food (plenty of options) and wonderful Melbourne coffee. Staff are very hospitable, and you are always welcomed with a warm smile. Extremely recommended.
The chili eggs came with house-made chilli sauce, minted peas, ham hock hash and a rocket salad with pickled onions. So good. I had food envy and snitched half of his meal off his plate. The hash was delightfully crispy and the chilli sauce had a real vinegary hit. The greenery took the heat off and were so fresh. It was a very well thought out plate. For sweets, there were all manner of de
Sensational. Brunch at Scarvelli last week. The best food. Loved it. Service friendly and prompt. Coffee great. Decor fab. What more could you ask for? I will be back. Well done.
Love the breakky bun. As my partner lives 1 min from this place, I'd always come here with her for Saturday brunch. And each time, it is the customary flat white when drinks are taken and then for the main, it'd be the breakky bun. perfect size for a brunch and not too expensive. the coffee is also very good. keep up the quality of the food and the great service!
Great find. Great little cafe with excellent coffee. Nice to see baristas that know what they're doing
We love this place, the staff are always welcoming and the food is amazing - the coffee is smooth and always hits the spot. Keep up the great work :)
Perfect Sunday Brunch. Absolutely loved Scarvelli, just moved into the area and was delighted to happen upon this cool cafe. Staff were really friendly and know how to handle the sunday morning rush. Food was delicious - we had the smashed avo, sauteed mushrooms, and the dukkah eggs. Coffee was great! Couldn't ask for anything more. Highly recommend!
Delicious!. Food was great! I had the slow braised pulled pork brioche burger. It was so tasty, I couldn't stop myself from wolfing down the sweet brioche. Coffee was lovely too. The place has a fresh but warm feel. Definitely coming back.
Wonderful cafe- best in the area! delicious coffee and beautiful fresh food! the sautéed mushroom and avo/whipped feta dishes are my faves! The cheeky pig brioche bun burger is delish too :)
Went here for Sunday breakfast, was great! Coffee was good, menu had a good selection and staff were attentive. Didn't have to wait for a table either
What a menu!. Just discovered this gem while travelling through Balwyn. Awesome menu full of winter warmers and the coffee is to die for!! Highly recommend, will be back.
Food great, Coffee not so great. Coffee needs attention. After sooooo many changes in coffee companies it is still not right. A shame, because the food is awesome and has a great atmosphere.
Great food, superb coffee and super friendly staff.
A great addition to the Balwyn cafe scene.
A great little cafe, the best coffee and the cups are huge. Value for money at last. Good food is a bonus.
It was a lovely lunch, the owners lovely! Chicken ciabatta amazing! Great prompt service and finally a good soy hot chocolate.
Great new addition. Scarvelli have consistently great coffee and a really interesting menu - personal favorite has to be the Cured Ocean Trout, was amazing on a hot day out in the courtyard (a good Smashed Avo never goes astray either and it's beyond excellent here). Staff are always very friendly, efficient and contribute to the wonderful, relaxed vibe. A new favorite haunt of mine, after lunch be sure to grab a peanut butter biscuit on the way out! Highly recommend!
Misstris. Have become a regular here and love the coffee. Also can't get enough of the Dukkah Eggs. Other fave is Peanut Butter Cookies - highly recommend!
I really liked the quiet ambience.....good coffee & great friendly service!Nice courtyard too! Will tell all my Balwyn friends!!

Hot food, hot coffee, hot boys! all around a great time for everyone. Staff are extremely friendly, especially when you're after a milky or two.
Fantastic food! Good prices. Friendly efficient staff, great coffee. Rocks all over the local competition (snow pony). There was 4 of us and three different breakfast from the menu...all delicious!
Fabulous new cafe. Food was fresh and delicious, coffee great and friendly staff. Will definitely come back.
Great food and coffee great addition to the balwyn cafe seen. Would highly recommend it
Great to have a new and good quality cafe on the local dining scene!! Service was very good and staff really tried hard to ensure all was ok. Will definitely be back, all very positive. One small point - it'd be great to see more items on lunch menu so it can compete more head on with other cafes in local strip. Overall, recommended.
What a great find brilliant coffie and great food. I had the smashed avo and it was presented well and tasted good. Would recommend it and will be coming back. Great job guys

Really great coffee and trying some great ideas in the kitchen ... A welcome addition to the balwyn Cafe scene
Fabulous. Fantastic coffee and food - you must try the fried eggs - poached and rolled in dukkah and deep fried on cauliflower purée and sautéed spinach - yum! Great iced choc too and very friendly staff. My new haunt!
Great Coffee !!!. Excellent Coffee guys, finally its more than a one horse race, great service, good suitable music, the show pony better giddy up and improve their crappy hipster service, keep the good work up !!
Great new cafe in Deepdene/Balwyn. Fantastic new café serving excellent breakfast and lunch and great coffee. Deep fried eggs in Durkah I have never seen before and they are great, Smashed Avocado my personal fav and the "Rolled In" a great bacon and egg roll. Have tried a number of the Soup of the Day for lunch and they have all been tasty, healthy and fresh tasting. Very generous serves, reasonably priced and friendly service.
Great coffee, love this new little place!
The Dukkah eggs looked spectacular. The dish balances all the big notes, with creamy sweetness from the cauliflower puree, punchy tartness from the pomegranate, buttery earthiness from the spinach and with the dukkah and pine nuts corralling everything together with a crunchy nuttiness. Wagyu beef burger ($20) The Wagyu burger was pure de
Items on the menu include the ‘Cheeky Piggy ($19.00): Slow braised pork cheek, sauerkraut, gruyere and gherkins, on a toasted bun’ and the ‘Dukkah Eggs ($17.50): Crumbed poached eggs, cauliflower purée, pomegranate, pine nuts, and sautéed spinach’.
Expensive Delicious Habit.
+4.5
There was a deer head on the wall behind me (made of non-animal) that had a fetching scarf tied around its neck. Our coffees and the food arrived quickly and looked great.
Overall Scarvelli is a great addition to Balwyn's cafe culture and I particularly like their wider range of dishes and more roomy setup as compared to nearby eateries.
I left Scarvelli cafe immensely impressed, and definitely very keen to be back soon, and will probably visit over Snow Pony for the absolutely beautifully crafted brunch dishes, chilled and friendly vibe and smiles. That, and whipped lemon butter with the fruit toast. Mmmmm.
It was a surprise visit and introduced by my wife. The name of French but the Haki food is amazingly good. Very rare to have a Asian and Aussie food, not fusion but stand alone menus. Well done. I'll come back.
This cute place is now owned by a sweet Malaysian couple. Probably the most authentic Malaysian restaurant I’ve tried in melbourne. Wonderful food, and relaxing outdoor seating. Recommend.
Wonderful cafe and Malaysian Haka food. The food is excellent and service is very friendly and helpful. Great place to revisited.
A lovely and cosy restaurant with just the nicest owners serving some of the best food.
We’ve tried a few of the Asian menu items such as the Buttermilk Chicken with rice, Thunder Tea Rice, Nam Yue Chicken Wings, Abacus Seed and Hainanese Chicken Rice. All a resounding 5 stars! The closest thing you get to home cooked goodness.
And at the risk of further unavailability, their mochis are made daily and simply delectable. Red bean is a personal favourite. There are very limited pieces so you’d have to get them early.
Keep up the great work guys!

Food menu is a mixture of western and chinese hakka cuisine.
The Chinese Hakka selection is not much.
Flavour wise is a kind of mild.
Had a very enjoyable breakfast there. I smashed a Smashed Avo while my asian wife went all asian with the Chicken Hainanese. She loved the fact that it was available for breakfast.
What an amazing find! I must have driven past this unique cafe hundreds of times but only decided to give it a go recently. The first thing I noticed when I walked in was how warm and friendly the staff were. The menu was interesting and exciting.
There were the usual breakfast suspects but it was the lunch menu that really caught my eye. Their Hakka dishes were a pleasant surprise. I’ve never seen them anywhere else in Melbourne so this was quite a treat.
The wife had the thunder tea rice which was a feast for the eyes. It was served with a strong herbal soup which when mixed with rice and vegetables was soothingly delicious. The textures added to the whole novel experience.
I had the Hakka pork belly which was tender and full of flavour. The broth was delicious and I really appreciated the home cooked feel to the dish.
The daughter had the Aglio Olio pasta. This was demolished in record time - full of flavour and cheesy goodness.
What a lovely brunch in a lovely setting with lovely service!
