Review Chef Lagenda - Deer Park

Trang Nguyen
Quite a popular restaurant in the area, maybe thats why they dont really need customers anymore?! Busy during weekend, so you are better book ahead to avoid long queue. We have been eating here for years. Everything was much better back then. Now, it is terrible regarding both food quality and customer service. We ordered their laska again. It was pretty plain. The chicken was dry and no more eggplant in the soup (for couple of times now). Sambal mixed greens was very oily, the beans were super bitter. Beef randang was not soft enough and very very salty. Sweet sour pork and fried rice were ok. We normally have mee goreng too. Mee goreng at Chef Lagenda in Flemmington is better than here I think. Customer service was terrible. The waiter who served us the food was very blurred and unfriendly. The waitress, who took our order, missed our drink order. Worst thing was that we dined in today and ordered a regular taro ice blend $6.5. They then charged extra 50 cent for the plastic cup that they put the ice blend in. This is the first time ever that I got charged for a plastic cup even we dined in the restaurant. A bit ridiculous! Why they dont just rise the price to $7 instead, I would be happier to pay. Overall, very bad experience with this restaurant recently - very disappointed. I would not come back and would not recommend this place at all.

I received my order tonight of beef rendang and got 5 pieces of beef in my order and this cost over $26. I called up and they said that this is the amount they give. Very disappointing and will definitely not be ordering from them again.

It's a chef and it's a Lagenda! Great food, Malaysian Chinese Nihao mah at its best. Must try, all food are on a level of the best of the best. Affordable and you will never go wrong. Best served with the whole family.

Delicious and not expensive food that is perfect for any weather. The service was quick and friendly. Recommended the rendang and whiting.
diance Zhang
It used to be my favorite restaurant but so disappointing this time. Price increased around 30% and the dishes become smaller. Only 3 pieces in a serve of rendang beef.

nice malaysian food, comfort decoration. good service staff . strongly recommend. defiantly will come again

Tried quite a few different dishes here and they're all good. Laksa is definitely a must.

Good Ambiance, ample space for party and celebrations. The place is right at the Woodlea shopping complex. Friendly staff with half knowledge of the menu. Service is quick. Portions serves only one. Wide variety menu covers most of the Asian cuisines. Taste and quality of food could be improved. May visit again if last restaurant left in north east Melbourne.

By far the worst hainanese chicken on rice I’ve ever ordered from. Was excited when I saw it pop up on my door dash app. Ordered it with roti bread which was also trash. The rice was undercooked as if it was microwaved before serving. The chicken has bones in it? Over the years of eating this dish at many different places they have had the bones removed. I’m going to make an exception from this restaurant that they serve the chicken with the bone is one thing but to chop the chicken into small pieces causes the bone fragments and I found it unbearable to eat the chicken without trying to remove the small bits of bone that’s been broken inside the chicken meat. I’m so disappointed at this place, over the years my friends have told me it’s a really good place for this particular dish. But when i had the chance to order it was disappointing to the very end.

Got 3 bad experience ordering take away from them. The first 2, we were missing an item each time. The third time, I checked the food and yes indeed they forgot an item again. This time I had to wait for them to prepare the food.

While the food is good, 3 mistakes on 3 different occasion is unbelievable

Has got to be the worst Asian food I have ever had, I got sick from eating there, now I have to get tested.

Great food till you encounter Alistair the worse Attitude and Arrogance in Oz

The fish head curry is my family favourite!!

Food: Not bad.
Service: The uncle who greets you at the door always looks like he's had a bad day at Crown.
Ambience: Somehow they make a big space seem so squashy.
Value: Unless you're that far out west. Otherwise...

Home to authentic Malaysian food!

I would usually visit Chef Lagenda for their stir fried combination noodles or the hainanese chicken rice. Love the authentic flavours and I really like how there are charred flavours in the combination noodles.

Really amazing flavours and the staff here is friendly which makes it an overall enjoyable meal

The most delicious SEAFOOD CURRY LAKSA I’ve ever had .. the only complaint is that their paper based Take-Away containers don’t hold up. We had a bag full of curry juice which leaked from the containers (when we arrived home) :-(

Awesome place if ur looking for a cheap fast eat food is very will priced and very fast service the only bad thing is waiting to get a table if you don't book.

My family come here quite often however over the past few visits we have been greeted with poor customer service especially by one of the men there.
We had already waited a while for our dishes however had to wait an additional 10 mins for the final dish to arrive so I waved down a waiter to ask about it. He had the audacity to say "tell me something I don't already know" and rolled his eyes.
Will not be returning!

This was my favourite restaurant. I went there from the first day it opened and recommended it to many people. It is under new management. The food will not disappoint but it will not amaze like it did before. Previous rating 4.5

The service is quick and the staff is great, and it still has good food at a great price.

But the shrimp and chicken in one of their signature dishes (La Genda Fried noodles which is a Malaysian take on Singapore noodles) have disappeared. Similar value downsizing is occurring in their other dishes like Char Keow Tao and even the laksa is getting less meat in it. and in addition the prices have gone up significantly.

it is very sad when the only driver is making more money. This restaurant was always packed and take away was lined up. Best wishes to their business ventures.

No wonder this place is always packed! Food are made with so much authenticity, fast service and price is just right. The Lunch meal deal is my fave as it is affordable if you are on a budget.
WALL OF MUNCHIES
Decent food for a local restaurant located in the West! Great spot to eat with family or just to catch up with some friends over lunch or dinner!

The service can be slow during peak hours when it gets busy, so if you don't mind waiting for a long time for your food to come out then come and check it out, they also do set lunch deals!!! Very affordable prices to enjoy fulfilling meals!

So everyone except me seems to love this place. I’ve been 4 times now really ordering different things to be impressed but each time I’m disappointed I am either ordering the wrong things or just unlucky. Today I ordered what I thought was chicken laksa soup but it ended up being noodle soup with chicken on the side the chicken tasted microwaved and was full of fat and bone - personally o don’t like chicken this way. Also went to pay but only had my phone and she said it was minimum $30 I explained I only had my phone and she was like arguing with me to get cash out I explained I couldn’t as I can’t with my phone so eventually she said well we are going to charge you for that so she threw an extra dollar or so on my bill.
Sel Ng
I love the laksa bowl here, taste very well. I tried the jam duck too, that was ok, and the beef belly is a little too salty. The menu is no many choice. Roasted- dishes is good.
The desert that I orderd was really bad, it was too much ice and not sweet enough, the drop rice( green one in picture) was not fresh, like it was cooked long time ago.
Ang
Enjoyable experience. Serve size is reasonable for price point and quality of service has improved since I last visited a few months ago. Would recommend trying the red milk tea and making a reservation as it is often times quite busy!

I have going There for a very long time food is always great, this time i order take away only to find they have reduced the size of the takeout containers to a ridiculous size,I did call them to tell them not to be greedy and give the same portions as i would have if i ate there ....i will not go back again ...don't try and take people for fools, just be fair! We would normally have left overs after 4 people have eaten, this time we were all hungry and extremely disappointed! POOR
Mike Nguyen
Food was good and good amount of portion downside is customer service a bit slow the manager kept brushing us off when we were asking to order but food was good still 3/5
Samantha84nguyen
The food is decent here but the service can be quite rude. With the Vietnamese restaurants opening near by I haven’t found any reasons to come back here. The roast duck and roast pork crackling used to be good but overtime became salty.
Christopher.n.robinson
I was hoping this would be more authentically Malaysian, having lived there for 7 years and married a local. I guess they change things a bit for the Aussie palate, but overall very good. The laksa soup was wonderful, but missing tofu and more ngar Choy (bean shoots) which would have made it perfect. The roti canai was flat and not as flakey as it should have been. The sambal vegetables was wonderful and here they didn't hold back, even including smelly beans (Petai) which many westerners may wonder about. I know this sounds critical but having had the best this just falls a tad short for authenticity.
Johnny Chan
The laksa and bubble teas have always been amazing. The management and customer service are professional. Very pleasant dining experience. Highly recommend the Laksa.
Aaron87lee
There are not many places in West Melbourne with great food especially in asain cuisine but we found one called Chef Lagenda.

First thing that caught my eye were the prices and how affordable and cheap the meals are. For my appetisers I went ahead and grabbed the Sui Mai and Pork And Prawn Dumplings. I love me some good Yum Cha and it didn’t disappoint.
The Lagenda meals are so good, well priced so I went ahead and got Roast Duck with Flat Rice Noodles in Chicken Soup. OMG The Duck was amazing!! I’m a sucker for good Duck and I would know I use to have Duck 1-2 times a week. If everything was disappointing I’d still come back for the Duck but everything was so good!!
The flat rice noodles were great as well. The chicken soup was ok I mean next time I’ll try another broth for sure but it surely was a tasty meal.
I’ll be back for sure.

I'm a regular customer at the Deer Park and Flemington restaurants.

Love their Chicken Curry Laksa and Noodle Soups.

It's always busy here and is a great place for quick lunch and dinner.

Lanlan
Everything use to better including the cha siu takeaway and now it’s not even roasted properly when we order it. Tea isn’t free anymore and whenever i pay for bubble tea it’s not filled up properly and even when i ask for little ice they give me NORMAL ICE LEVEL. Like i paid enough money but you don’t give me what i want...
Lilianaalp3107
It’s always crazy busy and very crowded. The meals have shrunk to smaller portions but higher price. Service can improve. Over all good food but not very good experience dinning in.
Ana Jansz
This place is always busy and we have eaten here a few times now but unfortunately this last time will probably be our last, we decided to order for pick up and when my husband cane home we found a really long hair in our soup, we called and were told to bring it in which we did and all they did was replace it, they were not apologetic nor did they offer a refund, very poor customer service.
Tara Rain
Love this place! A gem of the western suburbs. Service is quick and friendly and the food is excellent. Tea is now 50c a head which is a bummer but not a deal breaker. $30 eftpos minimum so bring your cash if you're only having laksa! They give you the bill before your food arrives which is weird but I guess makes it more efficient? Recommend making a booking for groups larger than 2, especially on the weekend.

Have to be honest, my family took me to Chef Lagenda in Deer Park as it was very popular and when we got there, people were already waiting in a line.
We were very excited until I ordered stir fried hokkien noodles. It was the biggest disappointment I’ve had, I was in an argument with my bro about how bad the noodles taste until he tried it. And then we ask the manager to give us another one, he didn’t look happy and was reluctant (we only had a few bites). 5 minutes later another came but this time it was disgusting, it felt like I was eating some soap chemical in my food, I tried to keep eating but eventually gave up as I felt sick.
I don’t know how or why, but I will not be going here again.
This took me 4 months to write as I wanted to keep it to myself but it’s always on my mind and I want to let it out.
Trinh Ta
The food here is great - still is but today the service to be HORRIBLE - No words was spoken to us since we walked in till we paid- let alone a friendly smile. The menu is new and the only thing that has changed is the pricing has increased 20%. Our favourite roti and peanut sauce came out on a different plate that hold less peanut sauce... and asking for extra sauce costed us $2 extra. It was such a disappointing experience that the good food doesn’t justify the price and service :(
I love this place. Every time I visit the west side of Melbourne, I always end up eating here. The food is fantastic and great value for money. Unfortunately, tea is now charged at 50c per head. It used to be free.

The staff were polite enough. We were shown to our table courteously. If you expect smiles and chit-chat, this is not the place for you. They are just doing their jobs. Fine with me. Service was prompt and the food reasonably came quickly after ordering.

I ordered the Chicken Curry Laksa, a classic favourite. It was delicious right down to the last drop of soup. Excellent ratio of fish cake, chicken and noodles. The spice hits the tongue just right and makes me happy. The meats absorb the broth and are tender pieces of delight to consume. The eggplant adds a satisfying touch to an already superb dish. This dish is a personal favourite of mine.

My friend ordered the standard Curry Laksa. It comes with less chicken pieces but they are replaced with several good-sized prawns. The soup is the same delicious wonder as mine.

My partner ordered the Hainanese Chicken Rice, a Singaporean favourite. The chicken was succulent, tender and tasty. The rice was also delicious. I also loved this dish.

I glanced around and saw people eating all kinds of delicious Asian-style dishes. Nostalgia washed over me. I ordered another plate of Egg Noodles with Curry Chicken to share. Apart from the rather washed out quantity of noodles, everything else was flawless.

As we were leaving there was a long queue of people lining up. I'm glad we got there early.

Looking for authentic Asian food that won't break the bank? Here you go.

I used to love this place and the meal deals used to be excellent and priced at 11.80. Disappointed when I came here for lunch I received a smaller portion of food compared what I’m used to with good quality but now doesn’t taste as good. The noodles from the meal deal were stuck together and barely cooked. On top of that you have to pay 50c for a container to get take away.
Hcolorpalette
This was honestly one of the worst experiences I have ever had! They got our meal order wrong 4 times and took over 40 minutes. To add insult, when we asked for a take away container as it was getting quite late in the night, they refused unless we agreed to a surcharge! No one even apologised. I would never go here again, shame on them!
Maureen Heywood
First of all the food comes really fast even if there is a full house. Secondly, the flavour of the laksa is amazing. It is hands down my favourite dish to order, and the egg sauce noodle (I think its what its called) is a really close second. They give free tea and the wait staff are very helpful
Tea
Stingy AF on the sauce. Microwaved roti was still cold and hard. Our drinks didn’t even come out until after we finished our entrees. Laksa was a let down, At this point I was happy there was soup in the bowl.
Ans
This place has gone downhill. Tea is no longer free. Prices have gone up 20%. Portion sizes have gone down. What a disappointment. I'll be looking for better places to eat.
Maria & Tony
Always quality dishes when my partner and I go here.
Our go to is the meal deal with crispy pork belly and roast duck which never fails, always fresh and uses premium ingredients.
I didn't rate it 5 stars, due to the wait times sometimes and that they make us wait quite a while between bringing dishes out - for the same course.
Just Being Honest
We had a booking at 12noon today the person who took my booking maybe didn’t here me properly. We was first to arrive from the family having a booking of 15 which they had put down 12 letting them know we needed two high chairs which then was told they only have one for us as they only have 4 and all booked out. Service was good great that English was understood properly, it was good that they came back to show me the order which then I had to correct a few minor things. She was polite and patient with making sure our orders was right. First came roti rolls which was refreshing just make sure as they do have nuts in it. And then bang bang bang food came from left right and centre service was so fast everything came out hot and fresh. Felt a bit pressured to eat fast and leave as we took up to much tables as they had to join them all up. Everything was good not anything negative to say more like a 4.5 stars losing 1/2 stars for few little niks. Would come again

Rating: 4
We were craving Laksa found this place near our home. We weren’t expecting how busy the place was going to be at lunch time but managed to get a table immediately.

Service was exceptional, with their friendly and fast staff, bringing our warm aromatic dish to our table.

We ordered the chicken laksa and the curry laksa. The highlight of the laksa has got to be the soup, it was addicting and until we were full, the soup was all gone. The chicken was succulent and plump, as well as the shrimp. I really enjoyed the eggplant which complemented the hearty thick soup base. What I would have changed is to have more of the thick yellow noodles instead of the thin noodles so it would be easier to cut off when we eat this filling bowl of meat.
Will come back to try the other dishes Malaysia has to offer.

Great value. Delicious food. Fast service. Great for a quick meal. There’s a very high turnover of clients, tables crammed in. Don’t expect a quiet, slow, intimate evening.
Honeymac
I usually love Chef Lagenda and took my family who haven’t tried it but was really disappointed on my last visit. If I book a table I expect to be seated at that time not waiting 30 mins for a free table. I always order the Same thing and when ordering the crispy pork was told they had run out which was the main thing I came for. Then we choose something else and halfway between bringing some of the dishes they say they have run out of other meats and ingredients. Once again we had to settle for something else and wait longer which meant half the food we already received went cold and others didn’t have their meals. You should be telling customers upfront before they enter the restaurant if you are sold out on meals especially if you know it’s a popular dish. Had we been told we would have left. Also got no apologies from the staff for this.

Place is good ,service is quick👍 price is alright
Staff was okey
Food was good and yummy..👍love the steamed fish and spinach😋and the special fried rice👍

The crispy pork belly is the best I've ever had. My fiancé and I always get the meal deal, such great value! The only downside is the hygiene, each time we go the cutlery are noticeable dirty or have pieces of food on them(we just dip it in the hot tea and wipe it with a tissue). It's so unfortunate because the the food is absolute perfection!!! Overall i still highly recommend eating here! The food is perfection and staff are relatively friendly.
Richard Ny
The male staff that handle the take away use the same hand that holding money to pick up spring onion and cucumber then place in the food then rub it on his jean, not hygiene at all.
To take away wait 10 minutes to be served then a good 20 minutes to get the food.
Once time my son and i went and dine there, we got told not allow any drink there coz my son brought in Boost juice so we ask if we can left it with them and get it after eating, unfortunately they threw it out after we eat , they also stuff up my bill. After a good argument they fix our bill and gave us the milk tea for my son but by then i almost vomit all the food out.
Food quality is low and super salty and it feel like going to a fast food restaurants and the food is not hot feel like be sitting in the kitchen for some time. And they charge you a fee for the container without telling you
Foodielover
Very disappointed with the food quality. Wish i didn't came in. Everything was salty and its not hot at all like its been sitting in the kitchen for a while(at least warm it up before you serve). I know this is not the most expensive place to eat, but there are way better cheap option out there. I can't think of any reason to come back. Plus they charge you take away container without telling you. 😡
The Food Book
Makes for good spot to satisfy the Malaysian cravings. Generally not too long a wait for a table but srlection is good. Would rate the roti wraps.
POC
Just want to know what the process and procedure is with your staff taking orders. Is it random selection or play by ear? Or does it vary from 1 minute to 45 minutes depending where the moon sits at night? Please respond. I understand you make basic Malay food but this order taking orders weight heavily on my mind at night.
Jonno
Work and live near 2 of their branches, food has been consistently good, I’ve tried at least 10-15 different things on their menu, and rarely come across one that’s below average. Serving size and prices are also good. Would have given a 4 star if they didn’t have a minimum amount for card payment though, for the scale of the business card payment should be available for all purchases especially when surcharge is applied
AlwaysHungry
Food was amazing but the service was dreadful. We were sat down eventually and waited about 10-15 minutes before we asked for menus because we didn’t get any.
Orders were taken relatively quick but we had to ask for cutlery and plates when the food came out because we had nothing and also ask for glasses for our water...
We weren’t approached at all to order any further food, drinks or any dessert or whatever it is they have on the menu after our initial order.
We were then asked to leave because they had a table waiting and needed our table.
I would go back but don’t know if I would go back on a Saturday night.
Kim Dim Sim
We decided to try this branch (because the one in Flemington is great). Food here is comparable but with less crowd. Be prepared with cash though! My friend and I only had our credit cards we were happy to add a tip to meet the minimum credit card requirement. Even then, the manager was not shy to show his discontent.
Brad
Absolute JOKE we ordered our meals only to still be sitting waiting patiently for over 45 minutes before someone asked us if we had ordered... needless to say they had not placed our order in the kitchen who has due to close in 20 minutes - the staff where more concerned about cleaning up to leave !! Not once did anyone check in with us to see if what we where waiting for !! Such a shame we have eaten here many times before and the food is usually great - with out doubt THE WORST service I have seen in a long time !!
We don’t mind waiting to get a table , we don’t mind that the food takes time to make and that busy means it can be slower than you would like BUT this is totally unacceptable!!
If I could give a no star I would have !
ThE MOiStMaKeR
Good food, homely vibe, very cheap and nice service. The little lunch deals they have are so nice and convenient. My favourite from here is the Hainanese chicken. It's not easy to find many restaurants in Deer Park at all so this is a good place to head to if you live around the area! They get so so busy at dinner so please book if you want a table!
Streaky Eats
Tried the roast duck, crispy pork belly, bbq pork, roast chicken.

Roast duck and crispy pork belly were very good, packed with flavour and not at all dry. Skin of the pork belly tasted very similar to the ones back in KL. Skin and fat of the roast duck was very tasty too.

Roast chicken was alright. Bbq pork had the flavour but the cut of the meat could have been better if they used the "half fat, half lean" part, as 100% lean tend to be dry in texture.

Chicken rice was alright. Chilli tend to be closer to the ginger mix than the real deal which is usually spicy and tangy.
JC
Great value for money, especially the customisable noodle set/deal. The other dishes we ordered were of a decent size too if a bit heavy on saltiness so we actually didn’t finish.

Be prepared for a wait if you come during rush time (dinner on Saturday). Mind you the line does move but make sure you put yourself down on the wait list.
Tuuli Forward
Very noisy place. The staff were very stressed and forgot dishes that were ordered. The food was extremely salty and not very nice. Drive 20 minutes down the road and go to Laksa King instead.

Second time here and like this place for a quick meal ..
Food fresh and full of flavour ..
Got to try the chicken Roti rolls , sorry ate them before I could take a pic 😂..
Absolutely love deer park chef legenda. My friends and family love it so much we come here every few weeks. The food is unbelievable and I've never had anything as good anywhere else. The service is extremely prompt and you receive your food within minutes. My expectations have been exceeded after every visit to chef lagenda.
The Gastronomist
One of my fav place to take family. Always had lovely and affordable meal in this place. Though it’s always packed during weekends, the ambience is calming. If you have not been here, you must try.
At Junior
Although it was ok it wasnt great. Looked nice and fresh but lacking the flavour i was after. Would probably give it 1 more go if im around.
Petit Appétit
Probably the best outlet compared to the other Chef Lagendas. Though in general, like all the others, they serve authentic Asian food (not fully Malaysian as their subtext suggests but this only offers a variety of foods to try out to immerse yourself in such cultures) while still at an affordable price.
Mylinh
Air con blasted up way too much. Soup came out cold, got even colder from the air con. Would love to have more than 1 little tissue. It's not easy getting their attention for another one. Value for amount of food you get is good. The owner is a rude lady who kicks people out of their seat even after they've booked.
Leslie Yapi
The only hawker place around the area and service was quick.

You have to order the Nyonya Curry. Best Malaysian curry in Melbourne (for my family)

Chicken laksa also the other star of the day.

Beef hor fun and the lettuce wrap with chicken also both really nice.
Virgil
It can get really busy so it's always best to try and get in there early or avoid peak hour. Even making reservations won't guarantee that time slot but the food is worth the wait once you order.
Adriana
Great local restaurant. Have been coming here regularly for years. Always clean and food has been consistent and of great value. Restaurant can get busy and pretty noisey, but this us to be expected. I love it when it's a customers bday and the staff go all out. Check it out!
Chea Yee
This is my favourite place for chicken Laksa, and also their 'rats tails noodles'. (cant remember what the English name is..) The latter really is just rice noodle in the shape of rats tails, which Malaysians fondly call 'loh shue fun'.

Their Laksa is really value for money, and filling. Their 'loh shue fun' has good 'Wok hei', or Wok heat and is both tasty. This is my favourite place for both dishes.
Ly McQueen
Awesome dinner!! Food came out super quick and our waitress was attentive and switched on. Thank you for the added birthday touch that caught all of us off guard!! A truly memorable and wonderful experience!! Highly recommend :-)

Must admit that the service is very fast; we made an order and within ten minutes all the dishes were served. The flavours are amazing and very flavourful. I would recommend the Spicy Chilli Prawn Cutlet ($20.8) and the Sambal Kangkong ($14.8). Both these dishes are very aromatic and strong in flavour so being accompanied by the coconut rice was perfect!

Overall, Deer Parks Chef Lagenda is a place that I visit frequently with my parents and never fails to serve us succulent dishes!

Rating: 4.5/5 🤗

A small restaurant with a big name, Chef Lagenda's Deer Park branch is a good choice for anyone wishing entrance or, already into the world of South-East Asian cuisine.

While not exactly 'pure' Malaysian food, and 'westernised' in the broad sense, Chef Lagenda's wide selection of different foods to serve means it caters to a large base of people.

Clearly (at least during off-peak hours), the presentation is consistently good. The restaurant effectively eminates an oriental vibe, it's decor emancipating customers from whatever happens to go on outside.

The food here is solid. Rice and spare ribs, as well as a seafood laksa held up - delicious and tasty all around. The ribs itself were not chewy at all, owing to using fresh ingredients and great cooking methods. The seafood laksa was also equally impressive. Besides the typical deceivingly large bowl, the noodles and soup were great. Though, it may smell and taste a bit fish-ier than some may like.

Roti was great. Originally traditionally Indian food, adopted into Malay dishes, the curry also carries with it a similar style. Both together give great starting entrees.

May be small, but bigger than it looks. Good pick. Just don't come late unless you don't mind the wait.

Marina Moscatt Ruscigno
We have given this restaurant many chances, chicken satay is always dried out,we asked that our main comes out after our entree however our main meal came out before the entrees. I love vegetarian curry puffs , however what I received was brown mush in pastry that was soaked in oil. Have no idea what was in these curry puffs, but it definitely wasn’t vegetables!!!!! Won’t be back!!!!
Scrumptious GG
An affordable but good restaurant to have lunch/dinner and offers a good range of Malaysian cuisine and drinks.
Tried from assam laksa, fried rice, bbq pork and many of their rice dishes and so far I found it pretty good.
Well, today we tried sweet and sour spare ribs with rice, har mee (prawn noodle), roti and curry, and three colors for dessert.
Everything was nice and satisfying. The bowl looked huge, but it actually just right amount.
Friendly and fast service from the staffs.
I will definitely come back again!

Another place we've been coming to for years. Consistently good food & friendly service. Laksas are big and food is quick to arrive. Huge menu. Always busy but never long to wait for a table. Can be loud, especially if someone has a birthday lol. Cash only.
M&B
Been here a few times but visits becoming increasingly infrequent as it's become more misses than hits with us when trying different dishes. Pros: cheap, quick, decent portions. Cons: average food at best, basic service. Would still suggest to try your luck there and give this place a go.
Shelddon
Great fried rice with salted fish, amazing whole steam fish with ginger. The sambal kang Kung is also great. You need to know what to order. Some dishes can be average.
Food Critic
Came here few times before but stop coming because food doesn't taste good anymore, and service is bad especially at the front when you just walk in and last time it was busy and they ask people to share tables with other customers and made us feel uncomfortable and the people we had to share table with uncomfortable. We just ate the food and hardly talk because there was no privacy. We always order a lot too and not just ordering 1 meal each. 😀
Topcat
Great food and great prices, great choice of food and they have great condiments like the ginger sauce. the lunch specials are really good value.

Great food great value. Big portions. Can get extremely busy during dinner time especially during weekends. Love the meal deal where you get 2 meats with your choice of carb (noodles or rice) with sauce/soup. Service is good.

Chef Lagenda or the Chef's a legend-a? That is, for charging such VALUE prices we almost felt like we should do some jail time for such a STEAL, for happily drenching our sweet and sour pork with as much sauce as our hearts desired and crafting such authentic, beautiful home-made pan fried pork dumplings (that we couldn't help but show our love for one another by both wanting each other to eat more than our own self to fully immerse in and enjoy such a wonderful foodie experience).

If you're after some damn good dumplings and authentic Chinese/Malay food at incredibly value prices, this is DEFINITELY the perfect place for you. Our suggestions are the sweet and sour pork and roast duck, which is their specialty. The home-made panfried pork dumplings were also a favourite. Service and ambience weren't as high scoring due to feeling like sardines crammed into a tiny can, and it being super busy therefore our service experience wasn't great, however the value completely overrides this. All in all, we had 3 different types of meat with rice, soup and Chinese tea for about $30 all up. Just outstanding.

Special mention - Definitely a good choice to opt for the "lagenda meal deal" where you get to choose two meats (we went for the roast duck and soya sauce chicken which were both juicy and delicious - only thing was serving was a bit smaller than we will have liked), a choice of a variety of rice and noodles and finally a soup for ONLY $11.50. That was a STEAL.

Food: 3.5/5
Ambience: 3/5
Service: 2.5/5
Value: 5/5

Overall: 3.5/5

ordered a portion of pork belly that costs 14 AUD, but it is even less than set meal that cost 11.5 AUD. It is not reasonable. asked staff to check why, they just ignored.

Decent atmosphere setting. Waiters are sound in regards to service. At times, traffic can be overwhelming and it is difficult to call for service. The vegetarian options were decent. Had the vegetarian hot pot, fried rice and laksa. The hot pot was slightly salty, the fried rice was underwhelming however the laksa was good. The laksa was full bodied, rich and not too spicy. In fact, I personally didn't find it spicy at all, which is good entry level for people who can’t handle spicy foods well.

Local favourite for me and what seems like everyone who knows about it. Cheap and good size meals. If you want to eat in they have 2 sittings. You are better off booking.
For the money I have never complained about any part
Love this place and keep going back for more. Yes it is always packed and sometimes you have to wait to get a seat. But it is definitely worth the wait. Food comes out quickly considering how busy it is. We always try something different, so far there hasnt been a thing we definitely wouldn't have again. Staff are friendly and inviting.

Food average.
Not many to choose from in area.
Feel less msg than Ballarat rd. Sunshine

Lots of staff. But they only do things when you have to ask.
The boy greeting customers stand chest on and close to you. Like want to pick a fight.
They get really busy here 7 fays a week.
But like a said. Bot much good to compare with in the area

For the price and portion you are paying its decent. The Hong Kong Roast is awesome, anything else is just mediocre. But will surely b back if I have the craving.

Asked for rendang sauce with no beef & to add tofu. They gave me beef sauce with tofu. Then I explained to them again what I wanted and same thing. Then they explained that they make the sauce in the morning for their dishes therefore it can't be amended!! Gross. So I changed my meal then she tried to charge me again. Nasty! Got the new meal and it was disgusting. The rice was hard and smelt like it had been cooked in dirty water! Better off going to western pho a few shops down, never had a problem 👌

If I was to describe this restaurant it would be with two words, Consistently good. I have been going here since 2015 and have never been disappointed with any meals I have ordered.
Perfect place for a good feed and affordable pricing. The best Lakasa you will buy for under 10$ at that.
avoid going in peak hours as wait can be expected

Only down side is it's not great for a quiet meal or for its service specially during peak dinning hours.
Love the vegetarian curry laska from this place. Everything was done to perfection. Couldn't believe how busy it was for a Tuesday night. They had a great range on their menu with lots of tasty things to share with friends. Staff were friendly and attentive. The atmosphere was clean and vibrant.

I've been this place a few times and the food is absolutely beautiful. Delicious Malaysian food in the western suburbs!! The portion sizes are very reasonable and the atmosphere is very relaxing and nice. The staff are very friendly but one thing I do have to say is that the service is not the best. Every time I have gone there we would have to wait 10-20 minutes for the people to notice us because they were too busy talking or something or if they didn't notice us we had to put our hand up. Not the best service but besides from that the food is yummy.

Food is fantastic always fresh. Never had a bad meal. My favourite place to eat place is always packed which is another gpod sigm. Only downside is service is a little slow but that doesnt bother me. Love the dumplings and beef spring rolls for entree. Have tried different dishes each time and all yummy

Great Malaysian cuisine. Good hainaise chicken and bbq pork.
Skip the roti (not the crispiest out there), and get rice with curries instead.

I love this place. This restaurant is one of my go to places in the western suburbs because of its affordable yet delicious meals. My go to meal for every visit is the Special Meal Deal which is a cheap, highly filling and satisfying meal. The place itself can get quite busy but I have never encountered that problem in all of my visits. The place is not very spacious, probably because they want to fit as many people as you can, which at times can be bothersome and uncomfortable. Serving time and customers service is also fairly decent, not the best but certainly not terrible. Overall, I love coming here and will continue to do so in the near future.

An all-time quick and easy favourite for fast service and delicious food.

My absolute favourite laksa in Melbourne! 🍜

Not to mention the fantastic prices!

This place gets pretty busy so I stopped going and because they get really busy it is so cramped and the quality has diminished from when they first opened. I still love their roast selection but it's not my first choice to eat locally. Staff aren't very attentive and don't give a positive vibe.

Literally THE best Malaysian restaurant in the west! Super quick service and food comes quick! Food is alwaaaaaaays amazing and roti bread as an entree is a MUST. Love coming here because it's great filling food for a great price. Never disappointed here !!

Crowded, but so worth it. The best Malaysian food i have been to. Service is fast. It could use with a larger space though as people are piling up even outside during meal times.
Dad-Ventures
Well if you've ever wondered where everyone is in the Western Suburbs on a Thursday night... They are at Chef Lagenda! Tonight, my dad joined me for a food-venture to, what I would describe, as the Malaysian food court of the west.

After being seated we ordered the chicken satay skewers for entree, which to my surprise, came out in about 2 minutes (now I've got a three month old at home, and I don't really want my meals that fast).
The chicken was dry, over cooked and chewy. The satay sauce was (in the words of Gordon Ramsey) a little bland and oily.

For main I ordered the Claypot noodles with pork and dad got the Curry Laksa soup. The Claypot noodles had a nice smoky taste, but the sauce was rather sweet. This combination of flavour left a bitter after taste after each mouthful. The pork made a minimal appearance.

Dad loved the Curry Laksa, and was probably the better choice of the two. The rich, creamy Laksa was really tasty.

After about 20 minutes of being seated we were finished our meals and asked politely to vacate our table. Yes this did happen. Was I mad? ...eh.

Chef Lagenda feels more like a market place food court then a restaurant. There's simply no care in delivering good, honest food or imparting a quality dining experience. My dinner felt rushed and I felt like I wasn't really wanted there. So back to bubs at home we went, which wasn't really such a bad thing after all.

My verdict: NOT WORTH IT.
