Review Tantra Indian Restaurant - Doncaster East

Highly recommended if you want to taste authentic indian dishes, Deserves perfect 5 stars. Tried Tandori, Methi chicken and Goat, all of them had different delicious flavour. Always surprise me with extra dessert and stuffs. Thank you guys, keep it up šŸ’Æ.

I would have leave zero (0) stars if I could. The food is mediocre for the price and to make it even worse itā€™s not even close to authentic and degrading the name of food so called Biryani. Stop calling yourself as Indian restaurant. Just wasted my money and remained hungry.while complaining to the manager ,she was not ready to listen what the grievances does customer have. Highly donā€™t recommend this place as they are giving cooked spices to eat to customer. Not going to order from this place anymore.

Seriously Disappointed. After reading reviews through various social media websites, decided to order through uber eats and was looking forward to a sumptuous meal but seriously Disappointed. Please do note that their portion sizes are generous though. 1. Murgh Kalimirich Tikka - (Ideally succulent boneless chicken pieces with a creamy and highly peppery flavour cooked in tandoor which should slightly hit the back of your throat). Coming to the tikka that was served, it lacked flavour of pepper, there was no seasoning as well. The chicken was not completely finished in the tandoor, rather half done in the tandoor and then tossed in a pan with cream and lots of kasturi methi. It was more like murgh kasturi methi rather than murgh Kali mirch tikka. No clue what was sinfully peppery as their menu states. On a plus the chicken was soft, thats all. Roomali Roti - (Ideally a very thin and large roti made from plain refined flour, feels like a handkerchief when you hold it in your hand). For almost $8 this is a serious rip off and not worth it. A. The roomali roti is clearly half the size of what it should actually be. (The size what they serve is more like a Western India Chapatti). B. It was not made with plain refined flour. C. The roti which I got was undercooked. 3. Chicken Biryani - No where close to delicately spiced, and you should stop calling it a biryani and call it a pulao if your going to mix everything together and not layer it. Also one can clearly make out that the biryani was tossed in a pan and then served. Rather than having 100's of dishes with fancy names and not doing justice to any, it would be better to have a few dishes but make them absolutely delectable.

Good food but pathetic customer service. I came all the way from west melb and had to wait for 80 min for an order which I was told should not take more than 40 min. Won't never recommend dine in here, place got so filthy carpet. It is literally sticking to my crocs. Dust everywhere and can spider webs. I mean seriously.

Ridiculously good food, we have ordered from here over 5 times and not one meal has been disappointing. We even live a 20 minute drive and itā€™s worth it. Always very generous, we have received extra curries, naan, rice, all that we didnā€™t even order and were given which is always a pleasant surprise. Our favourite Indian restaurant. My partner also has cealiac disease and not once has any issues occurred with their curries and rice, which really shows how particular kitchen/cooking staff must be. Could not recommend more, every time we order we have a food coma from eating too much, and then itā€™s our lunch and dinner for the next few days because they are so generous. We LOVE this place ā¤ļø

Ordered from Menulog and had it delivered to the nearby caravan park. We selected to pay by cash, and the lady who rang me to check if we needed change was friendly. Food came at time expected, if not a little early! Friendly driver. DELICIOUS. We had a curry with several starters and sides and all were SO GOOD, especially the onion bhaji. Pleasantly surprised that they had thrown in some extra rice, breads and little sweet snacks!! We ate ourselves silly and still have plenty of leftover for tomorrow.

The food is really horrible.. I have been ordering food in this restaurant for almost 5-6 years. The quality and taste is going down day by day and now it reached a state below minimum standards of taste and quality. The goat biryani i got today is smelly and the meat is saggy. The butter chicken is like tomato sauce.

I donā€™t usually write reviews but I got delivery from them for the first time and it was amazing, I ordered the tomato soup, coconut rice and goa fish curry. When it arrived I thought they gave me the wrong order because there was so much in the bag but everything I ordered was there along with even more. I got free papadums, naan, rice and dessert. All the food was delicious and was large for the price this will be feeding me for multiple days. Will definitely be ordering again

We highly recommend tantra! It is by far the best Indian food we've had, always flavoursome, plentiful and fresh! The owners are so generous and always add in something extra for us to try, complimentary.

Great food and really went the extra mile to impress with my first menulog order. I'm thrilled that this restaurant is nearby and the food was delicious.

Try the mango ice cream - you wonā€™t regret it! Good service and a good menu, a lovely dinner out with the kids. Thanks for having us!

This is the best Indian food I've had. They were happy to cater to dietry requirements. Service is excellent - we were served complimentary drink while waiting for take-out. Polite staff and generous servings. Will be returning to dine with plenty of friends.

What a bloody rip-off? Order 5 butter-rotis and got charged $4.50 each at the time of pick-up. Didn't get told at the time of the order and even at the time of the payment how much I am supposed to pay. Had to go back to confirm the pricing. Couldn't believe what I saw on the receipt when I left because the lady at the counter put the figure as $12.50 from what I saw on the screen but eded up paying $22.50 for 5 Butter-rotis. Never coming back

Best. Indian. Ever. I love this food so hard. ļæ½ Well worth the trip out there to collect, but was happy to see they will deliver to us too.

My wife and i haven't been happy with the quality of Indian food around our area & for the last 7 years we have put up with below average Indian food after living in the inner city and having been accustomed to high quality standard of restaurants. WHY DID WE SAVE THE BEST TILL LAST? Thank God we have found a fantastic Indian restaurant in Manningham. Well done guys you have a very professional, friendly place with awesome food. (We got takeaway) 5 x thumbs up
Kristina Mallison
Love the food and service here. Authentic atmosphere. And always get more than paid for.

The food tasted fantastic , service was quick and I was able to order foods to suit my special dietary needs . Will go again when visiting next time.

Beautiful Indian food in a spotlessly clean setting. Highly recommend...

Awesome experience!! Nice host, either dine in or take away,

Poor customer service , the owner ( male ) had no manners how to speak to female customers. The food which was served was disgusting.
Saurabh Sheth
Very fine Indian taste and good hospitality, regular Indian customers should be given some discounts on bill.

Best indian food in Melbourne ...
Nicole Kellam
Ordered food from ubereats and unfortunately our food was delayed however to make up for the delay the restaurant gave us more food than we ordered.

The curries were flavoursome; however, there was more curry sauce than meat. The samosas were seasoned with the most delicious seasoning and the roti was fluffy unlike any roti Iā€™ve tried previously.

Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting authentic Indian.

Absolutely loved it! We tried takeaway few months ago and decided for a dine in this time - the food was fabulous, best Indian food weā€™ve had. We didnā€™t know what to order but explained what flavours we like and the lady made suggestions on what to order - amazing food. We ended up with lots of take home because we ordered too much. Will definitely come back for dining in - nice relaxed and friendly atmosphere!

Ordered Tantra to be delivered and it was absolutely delicious. Some of the best Indian food Iā€™ve ever had. I love the wide range of vegetarian options. The lentil dal was so tasty and incredibly delicious. Highly recommend. A great local.

We had takeaway from Tantra based on its high rating and it was very good. We ordered butter chicken, malai kofta and the lamb madras. All three curries were thick and tasty. The lamb in the madras was quite average though, and contained lots of fatty cuts (but we will let them off on this occasion as we are so keen for lockdown to be over). The malai kofta with its sweet almond curry was divine. I absolutely loved it. We had a serving of onion bhaji and the pakoras too. The naans were all delicious but maybe a tad overpriced as we spent over $100 and 35% of that was rice and naan. Overall, Iā€™ll definitely order again.

I just noticed this review was sitting in posted in my my drafts. We came with the family for Diwali dinner and while it was still utterly delicious I did feel quite sick after which was definitely not ideal. Iā€™m not sure it will put me off a return visit however as Iā€™m just addicted to their curries

Recent
We took a fresh round of friends to Tantra for double date night introducing them to the delicious delights that is the butter chicken perfection. It's a relatively small place run by a husband and wife team so make sure you book to avoid disappointment. Like I know things always have that disclaimer 'book early to avoid disappointment' and they are often in in no danger of booking out but seriously in this instance I implore you, BOOK. Other than that sit back relax and enjoy

Further Update
We visited for a double date night recently to show our friends how much we adore this place as their favourite local Indian has recently closed down. They actually still preferred their local but I suppose thereā€™s no accounting for taste.

This remains the best Indian restaurant in Melbourne in my opinion (and my opinion is backed by extensive tasting research). The flavours in their curries are simply second to none and we are yet to try a dish we donā€™t love

UPDATE
We were back at Tantra this week for a family birthday and while itā€™s been 18 months since my original review Iā€™m pleased to report its as fabulous as ever. My beloved butter chicken is still hands down the best in Melbourne and on this occasion I also tried the amritsiri fish and the malai kofta which were both very yummy. Simply outstanding overall

Original review
First up lets talk numbers. I've lost count of the amount of times I've been here. It's probably the same amount of times I've ordered takeaway from here. I've brought four different groups of friends here. I've been given complimentary delicious desserts at least three times. And I've arrived twice without a reservation and been turned away (šŸ˜šŸ˜).

The butter chicken is probably my favourite in all of Melbourne. I'm talking basically scraping the bottom of the bowl so I consume every last drop of that phenomenal sauce. And the tandoori chicken is a strong contender for the best thing I've ever put in my mouth. Just get down there
Sunny Days Melbourne
I ordered some takeaway from Tantra for a Sunday night dinner and was blown away by the food. The takeaway boxes were packed to the brim and they consisted of generous amounts of meat.

Among the dishes I ordered:

Madras beef - the pieces of beef were tender and the sauce was well spiced, full of flavour and simply delicious!

Palak paneer - having never tried this before, I approached it with some trepidation. The pieces of fried cottage cheese were swimming in the spinach sauce and the combination was wowza!

Briyani - we had the seafood and beef versions. Both were unique and full of spices.

The roti and samosas were fresh and had the correct textures.

The level of spiciness could be adjusted according to your taste. Tantra really impressed!
Mirna_gamal
the food is so delicious , the butter chicken was amazing and they have many vegetarian options and the staff is friendly

Dined here last night for the first time and we loved it! We ordered the vegetable briyani, prawn tantra, butter chicken and some naans. Food were mostly brilliant, the prawns could have been better as the flavours from the spices were not absorbed into the prawns, it was just on the outer coating. Service was friendly and they even packed our leftovers for us nicely which is always a plus point. Would definitely visit again!

After reading all the great reviews for this place, I was inspired to make a booking for a group of ten people. Overall, the place was easy to find and parking was relatively easy to find also for a Saturday night.

We were placed on a table right near the entrance and every time a customer walked in and out, there was a cold blast on our table. Some screen or barrier there would have helped a lot. Considering the restaurant was not full until later, it would have been nice to move us in a little bit. Some of the decorations on the walls were awkward and a few people found they were hitting their head on them. The bench seating against the wall however is very comfortable.

The service was efficient but not overly friendly. The head server appeared annoyed with the young staff and the staff could not answer some basic questions about the menu and had to keep going away to ask someone. We had some people with dietary restrictions so this was important to our table. The menu is quite extensive with a lot to choose from.

Many meals arrived at different times but the accompanying rice/bread ordered for each of our meals arrived at the end of all the meals being served so some people had cold dishes. Overall the food was enjoyed by most people. I ordered the Palak Paneer and it was fresh and well made, although under seasoned. Meals are a good size so if you are not a big eater, you will have some leftovers that you can take home.

The bathrooms could do with some cleaning and are in need of an overhaul but the carpet around the bar was a real turn off. It was worn, stained and had build up on parts that made me feel a little sceptical about the overall hygiene.

I rang beforehand to ask if they would split the bill for us and they said they would do this. On the night however, they didn't want us paying with our cards, only cash was encouraged until a few people complained that they did not have any cash and then they reluctantly agreed they would allow those people to pay with card. I understand that they get charged for card purchases but then they should mention on inquiry that they only accept cash.

I really wanted to like this place, but unfortunately the experience left me underwhelmed.

What a lovely meal! My partner and I got takeaway and were pleasantly surprised with complementary papadams and rice! Food was so yummy and I was absolutely stuffed! Fantastic value for money and lovely staff! Would recommend to anyone who loves Indian

Absolutely love this place and couldn't recommend it enough! Food is perfect and the staff are very friendly and accommodating. The atmosphere is very warm and inviting too. Just love it!

I feel as if this place is very underrated! Beautiful food always cooked quick and in large portions, perfect for their prices which leaves me always calling for a takeaway because itā€™s irresistible!

Ambience : 3
Value for money :4
Quantity : 4

Nice place to visit if you happen to be around this suburb. Ambience is nice and staff is equally good. Paneer chilly is a must try.

Friendly staff
The butter chicken was not that special but taste good. The rice was tasteless. All their chicken is Thai pieces which is common in Melbourne however personally i would like to have chicken breast.
Food portions are huge

We had heard and noticed this restaurant for a long time and a sudden decision to visit was supported by quick Zomato booking - kudos to quick booking.

A quick meal we skipped on drinks menu however noted the bar menu to be average.

We tried butter chicken, goat curry, tandoori chicken and bhendi masala supported by naan, roti and mango lassi.

Butter chicken was good- in line with expectations, missing falvor was kasuri methi. Goat curry was well presented on a bbq platter- few very large pieces kind of un- restaurantary. Tandoori chicken was disappointing - too dry, no juices inside and were unable to finish.

Service was excellent, very mild and polite mannered waiter and perhaps the owner/ chef too very courteous.

Ambience is good and no harm in giving it a second try.

Revisit: Maybe

We came here for Fathers Day dinner - just the two of us. Located centrally on Blackburn Road amongst other good eateries. This place is a standout.

Welcomed and seated within seconds, we chose to have a few entrees and one main with the usual raita, naan and rice. A nice bottle of Langhi Ghiran Billie Billie Shiraz helped the night.

The staff were just lovely, helpful and the service was fast - but not too fast.

The restaurant itself has nice decor and quite a romantic setting.

Wheelchair friendly. Kid friendly. Good car parking our the front. Takeaway available. In fact, they are one of the top MenuLog takeaway restaurants being a winner in 2018. Kudos to them.

I was looking for a place that serves some good Indian food and a few of my friends recommended this place!
We ordered a Paneer Tikka Masala, Butter Chicken and Chicken Biryani and believe me, we weren't disappointed.

The butter chicken was absolutely delicious. The gravy was divine. Will order it every time I visit this place or get food delivered from here.

Paneer Tikka Masala was good. It was somewhat different than what we actually get it in India. It was more like a regular Paneer Capsicum Onion curry. But not bad.

Chicken Biryani was great as well. They also served some extras with our order like some Naans, Papadums and Gulab Jamuns and we loved it!

For me, the star was that butter chicken! Do try it and if you can handle spicy food then instruct them to make it hot! Personally not a fan of sweet butter chicken so loved this!

Taste - 4.25/5
Pricing - 3.75/5
Quantity - 3.75/5
Packing - 4/5

This place is fantastic. Had an amazing meal. Highly recommend the Chicken 65! Debbie was a brilliant waitress. We will be back! Lovely atmosphere too.

We are regulars here. We get takeaway here every week because itā€™s the only consistently well made Indian food restaurant we have ever been to. The quantities are very reasonable and they are always happy to specialise the food to our personal palette (less spice, more paneer, less oil etc). Itā€™s hard to find well made Indian food these days and Tantra definitely ticks many boxes. They have a balanced fusion of traditional Indian flavours not too subtle but not too overwhelming with too many spices so that western people can enjoy it too! My favourite is the paneer tika and the kofta curry which are both vegetarian. My dad and partner enjoy the chicken tika masala. The chef is very kind and sometimes throw in extra rice, chutney and pupadums because we order so often. We normally just get takeaway as but the restaurant itself has an excellent vibe for people who do choose to dine in. Very authentic and Indian!

Iā€™ve been to this restaurant multiple times and I havenā€™t been disappointed. Their service is friendly and quick, their food has a lot of flavour and the best thing that I like about this restaurant is that their portion sizes are great for the price they charge. It is well worth it and I havenā€™t been disappointed.
I had to make a last minute 11 people booking and they were happy to accomodate my family, served us with a big smile on their face. I will be visiting this place in the future and will be recommending this place to others too.

Friendly service but I had food poisoning from here. I feel bad giving this place a 2 because I did think the food was tasty and packed with flavours but I think the chicken might have been just slightly undercooked because I felt so awful. We tried the butter chicken and a lamb curry. The lamb curry we asked for medium which was very spicy, not for those with weak tolerance. In terms of flavour I did prefer the butter chicken because it was less salty. The lamb curry was very salty and the rice portions per person wasn't that big. I enjoyed the naan bread and would recommend that. The reviews are great here so it's a shame I experienced food poisoning, I'm not sure if I'll come back to be honest.
Mini Mooi
Friendly and very attentive staff. We had goat masala, chicken vindaloo, veg samosa, nann and steamed rice. My chicken vindaloo was lovely flavour and veg samosa was also nice.

This place has been my favourite for the past 2 years. We accidentally came across this restaurant through Menulog. The food is very good. Some might feel its pricey but I have had food for cheaper prices and nothing comes close to the dishes prepared by Tantra. Their hospitality is very welcoming and restaurant is well kept.
Evica
We ordered dinner from this place- Paneer curry, 2 garlic naans and lamb kebabs. Instead we got Paneer curry, 2 garlic naans, lamb kebabs, 2x delicious rice, 2x papadums, 2x dessert and dips. I mean it was probably because we ordered late and they had leftover food, but this is rather an unusual policy to add extra food! I really appreciate that instead of throwing the food they've done something like this, many restaurants should learn from them.Ā
Apart from that, the food was great and deserves 5. My curry was delicious and the size was so generous that I couldn't even eat it all!Ā
Well done Tantra!
DineByNine
Introduced my friend to this place and told him how it started. For entree, we ordered a Veg Samosa and boneless Chicken. Sorry Im vegetarian...dont remember what they were called. However I can say both were nicely served. The Chicken was on a sizzling plate which definitely wowed my friend. He didnt even know what a Lassi was....he thought it was a soft drink. He ended up getting a mango lassi while I got a Salty Lassi. For mains we got - Chicken Korma, Malai Kofta, shared Saffron Rice and 2 Garlic Naans. Really Nice. Manager of course communicated well, staff spoke good enough English and did their best to help us. Would definitely return as its a family favorite.

Tantra is seriously the best Indian restaurant around town.
The staff are attentive, accommodating & remember your name everytime you walk through the door.
Prices are great & food serves generous.
I believe it has changed hands and have not attend in a short while.
Worth a try!
Aanart Bhachech
This place has a really good ambience and it gives you the feel of an authentic Indian Restaurant. We ordered the Chicken Tikka and a Mixed Tandoori Grill both of which were good. I reckon they could have been better but were way abouve satisfactory. All in all a good place to enjoy some quality time and food.
Meagan Zacharewicz
Amazing service, the staff are absolutely lovely and very generous. The food is delicious particularly the Malai Kofta! My family and I always feel like valued customers when we order food from Tantra. Highly recommended.

We been to Tantra to celebrate a special occasion. Ambiance was good. We ordered tandoori veg sizzler that tastes very nice but comes only 2 of each cauliflower carrot borrocoli and paneer thats it. It was for $20. We tried tomato soup which was nice and daal ka shorba taste like daal makhni without the cream not a soup
Then I ordered daal makhni and karahi paneer. Daal was tasteless and no salt or Spice in it. Paneer wasn't good as well. I did ask the owner that it's tastes that bad we couldn't finish it. I might not go there again

We came here for dinner on a Wednesday night and I can only say good words about our experience!
Food:
This is definitely one of the better Indian restaurants in the eastern part of Melbourne. The menu offered a wide range of vegetarian entree and main options (although Iā€™m sure their non-vegetarian options are just as varied). We have ordered four mains and dish was equally delicious and special. I would really recommended sharing your meals as it really allows you to try a variety of dishes all which have a unique combination of flavours and textures.
The dessert were also quite lovely, I especially enjoyed the homemade ice cream. We finished off the meals with their flavourful Masala tea.

Side note:
The portions were quite large and we could only about half of our meals as we also wanted to save some room for dessert. The staff allowed us to get the leftovers packed away and also provided some rice and desert which made a beautiful lunch the next day.

Atmosphere and service
The space and interior was carefully arranged and designed to create an great atmosphere for a classic Indian restaurant. This is a pleasant contrast to some of the Indian places down at Clayton where I would usually go for Indian.

The staff were incredibly attentive and our food arrived fairly quickly.

P.S
They also offer a take away menu that is about 20% cheaper than the eat-in options, but the eat-in experience is well worth the extra.

Jacqueline Galvin
Food was disappointing, entrees were flavourless and the mains were 'just' okay. Service was patchy. The biggest issue; this place is alarmingly overpriced. We were charged $14 for plain rice for two people. Our meal, without drinks was close to $100. For a suburban Indian serving a mediocre product, this was an unhappy shock. Can't recommend unfortunately.
Jo Ooi
Their butter chicken is so good, great value and always bring extras when they deliver. Tantra goes beyond expectations when comes to customer service and quality food.
Grace Houdini
The food here is absolutely delicious and there are little touches that make it a truly satisfying dining experience. Customer service was terrific and wait time for food was minimal. In taking the leftovers away, we were generously given pappadums and extra rice to go with the curry. I would go back in a heartbeat! A bonafide gem :)

Visited this place for the first time yesterday.
Took out takeaway last night of the following
- Butter Chicken
- Lamb Roganrosh curry
- Tandoori Sausages
- Potato Curry
- Basmati Rice

All of the above had their own distinct flavours, unlike some other Indian restaurants I've been to previously. The sausages had a nice, faint smokey flavour to it which was absolutely sublime.

Butter Chicken was my favourite, aromatic and sweet to taste which is what I prefer. Potato curry had a nice tangy flavour to it, which was a nice contrast to the rest of the other dishes we ordered.Ā

We were given complimentary sweet dumplings for desert which was a nice gesture.

Definately going back to this place for our Indian nights from now on.
Beryl Zhang
We ordered Take-away this weekend. The Mix Tandori are very dry and bland... got 7 pieces of chicken and 2 lamb chops.
The curry dishes are very tasty. We ordered goat&chicken & fish curry, I think in this his case, the chicken is my favorite.
The Gastronaut
Tantra is a very interesting twist in the Indian restaurant scene. This place does some really cool innovative dishes. The presentation really set them apart. The flavors are great too. Totally recommend this place for a relaxed evening with family and friends.

The prices are a bit steep but the food was excellent and the staff are lovely. We had a great experience and will definitely go back again :)

Food was really yummy. Service was ok. My mineral water clearly came from a bottle that had been open a LONG TIME. It was completely flat and awful to the extent I couldn't drink it. I was annoyed that the chilli and cheese naan I ordered came without chilli. Overall it was "fine"
Tim Nothanks
This is the best Indian restaurant I have been to by far. The food is great, the portions are large (I can barely finish my meal and I have a large appetite) the staff are good, and the vibe relaxed.

Seriously, it's to the point where I'd be reluctant to eat Indian anywhere else.
Kimberly Yan
Delicious! We ordered the chicken tikka masala and the pumpkin masala, both were packed with flavour and spices. Servings were generous as we had a decent amount leftover for takeaway. The extra dessert and papadams were a great touch. I will definitely be back to try the other dishes.
Sarah Lucas
I can't recommend tantra enough. My friend and I dined there last night and it was perfect! From the moment we stepped in the door we were greeted with warmth. The food was excellent. We had butter chicken and lamb korrma. Very high quality, it came out on time and I could have kept eating all night. We hung around to chat after our meal and they gave us a free dessert.Ā It really was just an exceptional dining experience
My Thats Tasty
Last manager has left, don't think the food is of the same quality that it was. We found every dish to be heavy on the salt. Disappointed because I used to really love this place.
Kelly
Amazing food, amazing service. Definitely a new favourite. Had heard good things and am very happy to find out they were all true. Will be going back again.
MaTo3735
One of the best Indian food. Ordered a take away and the portion is generous. Taste is very nice. We ordered butter chicken, naan and chicken boona. Got a few bit extra appetisers which is very nice. Will definitely order from them again
Jonathan.prestwich
Had the banquet and swalled mixed vegetables for paneer dish. The paneer dish alone was amazing but the rogan josh and butter chicken were also of a very high quality. Seemshow there the super popular indian dishes most will not be disappointed here. Service was great also and the whole expierence was good. Thank you for having us.
Foodandwinefan
Saturday night here was insanely busy, make sure you book ahead! The staff were super busy so it was hard to get service. Servings well good size portioned. The med to hot palak paneer i ordered was super mild. I think i would come back during the week to give it another shot, the vibe is great.
Foodie
Great food and excellent service. Especially all the Tandoor items had unique tastes to them instead of just being salty and spicy. Bit expensive but worth a try.
Becky Pratt
We ordered 4 curries and 2 naan for takeaway. Hubby walked in the door to the house with 2 bags!!! 4 rice, a mountain of pumpadums, 2 runs of yoghurt and dessert balls. Sercice is amazing and food is amazing also!!! You don't disappoint. Thanks!! Our fave Indian joint!!!
William Costin
Really nice food, they even chucked in a little extra because they were closing soon! Would recommend solely on the basis that their food was great.

Tantra is my new favourite place for Indian food. I had the Baigan BhartaĀ (eggplant dish) and it was divine, probably the nicest Indian dish I've had. The serving was massive, I left extremely full and it left me with dinner for the next night too. The actual prices in the restaurant are higher than the onesĀ on theĀ menu availableĀ on Zomato - so it is definitely on the pricier side for Indian food in the suburbs but I thought it was worth it and perfect for a date night. The restaurant is relaxing, somehow very quiet even when it's full and more importantly, the service though is IMPECIBLE. The gentleman serving us packed away our leftovers for us and even added free desert and papadams, we were definitely looked after. Will be back!

Friends invited us to their favourite Indian restaurant called Tantra in an unassuming block of shops in East Doncaster. Unassuming from the outside but warm and welcoming from within. I'm not sure whether it was because we were with regular diners or not but we were made to feel like we belonged and immediately felt relaxed. The interior was decorated in reds and dark maroon with plenty of visually stunning prints.

Now for the food. We ordered far too much. I just went with the flow here. The chicken tikka was tender and spicey as were the lamb chops. The samosas came out pipping hot and crisp and also with quite some heat from spices. Our 'local guides' were such fans of the butter chicken here that we ordered two serves. This was the more traditional and more tomatoey version of butter chicken to what I prefer and I found a little too strong on the tomato flavour. Our friends highly rate this dish and their whole family have been known to order the same dish each. The breads were delicious as was my mango lassi and the complimentary Kulfi ice cream (mango & pistachio) we received at the end of the meal

The service here was highly attentive and a step above the standard suburban Indian restaurant. We had a great time and left a little heavier than when we came. They even gave us those hyper sweet syrup dumpling to take away with the rest of our leftovers. A really relaxing and enjoyable evening was had.

With Good Food Good Mood

We went on Mother's Day, the wait was long for the food and it was packed.
However, the food and service was quality.
The entree we had was the Reshami kebab, which is incredibly tasty.
We got the five spice chicken and the beef madras. The chicken was cooked so well and full of flavor. The beef was quite average. Overall, the food was very good and I recommend this restraunt, if you like Indian food, as it has a wide variety of Indian food.
Great Indian food! Authentic and delicious. The place is busy. Staff is very friendly. Food and drink come out quickly. Dishes are unique in taste. Worth visiting for Indian food.

I stopped going to this place as they gone very expensive in the last 2 years or so as compared to other Indian Restaurants in the area. This is just my opinion looking at the quality hasn't changed in years the price changed dramatically.

This place has the best takeaway. I've ordered many times. Food is consistently good. They throw in a lot of freebies with orders as well. Worth the value 100%!!!

Tantra is a perfect example for super hospitality and excellent customer service married with authentic and deep India falvours. A must go place for eastern and north eastern suburbs residents who loves Indian and spicy foods.

My favourite Indian restaurant in the eastern suburbs. Have eaten in and taken away many times. Food is fantastic and the Naans are mouth watering!

Came here for dinner and got told off for not ordering enough food. The lady serving us said "it is a fine dining place so we expect each person to order over a certain amount". The amount of food ordered was already way too much for the pair of us to finish and heaps was left over. She was extremely rude and seemed as if she would rather be anywhere else except there. If you wanted a close Indian restaurant around this area, I suggest haveli (near tunstall square). Needless to say, I will never be returning.

Without doubt, one of the best Indian restaurants I have ever been too! Great service ... Amazing food... Don't want to tell more .. I tried the Kali mirchi chicken entree ... And the kashmiri pulav .... The pulav tastes really good with the raita! Overall , Amazing place !

Love the food here. For an elegant Indian dinner night this is the place to be. We also got free kulfi once :) Will definitely be back soon.

This place is absolutely amazing. Being of Indian background I have always cringed when friends suggest eating Indian at a restaurant but this place is one of a kind. I have been a customer since 2014. Great service always, great food (no artificial flavours and MSG!), great ambience. Love! Love! Love!
Mary
By far one of the best Indian restaurants we have ever been too. So impressed by the amazing quality of food with so much flavour and proportion sizes given which is worth the price. Staff is very friendly and convenient to approach even when it was busy. Definitely coming here all the time.

Ordered Take away for Kadhai Paneer and Malai Kofta. When i reached, what arrived was shahi paneer and malai kofta, i said I ordered kadhai not shahi paneer.. And owner lady went inside swearing us to check with her husband and in reply what he/she said is that we can order kadhai paneer but you need to buy shahi paneer as well and i said we are just two of us, what will i do of 3 curries where I didn't order shahi paneer not my mistake.. Lady owner was so rude to my wife and said forget about it then.. Indians plz beware of racism as they treat well to Aussies.. Poor service and arrogant though not going again.. I came from Ringwood..

If you are in the area and after a delicious Indian meal, look no further! Saffron rice was light and buttery, the Beef Madras was one of THE best I have ever had! The service was excellent, we will return!

such a disappointing take away. we have eaten here a few times but this was different and not good at all. the biryani was incredibly spicy and overpowering. Ā the papadams were sooo oily and undercooked; the bag was soaked in oil. Ā The lamb rogan josh was not cooked well either; the spices were almost raw and harsh, there was no blending of flavour. Ā The raita was far too sweet - not sure why? So disappointing and do not recommend. Try elsewhere.

We ordered delivery - food arrived on time and portion sizes were great.

The garlic naan and lamb madras was delicious. We also enjoyed the samosas and pakoras. The butter chicken was a bit disappointing though. We would definitely order from here again.
Mandy
great indian food. bit pricey but definitely worth it. the food took a while to come out but it had authentic flavours! would definitely visit again but in saying this, it could do with some improvements overall.

After waiting for 1 hour for our meal it finally arrived. But not what we ordered! 2 meals for sent back as for they were incorrect. I ordered the beef korma which was relatively nice. 2 others at my table ordered butter chicken and said it was very bland and had no flavour. Paid as we walked out the door and staff member assumed to keep the change as a tip! I had to ask for my change!!! Will not return

Been to Tantra a few times now. Each visit the food seems to have escalated in quality and taste. The butter chicken, lamb dishes, kebabs have reached new levels and rival any Indian restaurant for taste. The servings are generous and the service is excellent.
Definitely a great place to enjoy a meal and relax in a great environment.

Food is magnificent ambience great service unsurpassed specials on board not to miss recommend to anyone looking for good Indian food in a great atmosphere

Oh dear. We felt like some Indian so decided to get take out.
So positives: delivery was very quickļ¼Œ servings were big.
... and negatives: there was no dish we liked. Butter chicken was the blandest we ever hadļ¼Œ the roasted eggplant was crazy spiceyļ¼Œand the saffron rice was just bad.

Could not recommend this place.

WeĀ have beenĀ regulars at this place for 18 months however on a take away basis and never disappointed. Prices have gone up slightly but to be fair the owner use to offer 10% discount for take away orders and throw in small extras on most occasions. The extras are still there just the prices are 10% more. It's actually hard to find good Indian food in the area so I am happy to pay for it.Ā Favourites include LambĀ Korma, Chefs Special, Madras, ChickenĀ merge methi meli (spelling not right), samosas,Ā mango lassi, kulfi, butter chicken, naan etc. Lamb is always tender with plenty of sauce for the dishes and flavoursome. We dined in on new years eve and the service was fine, the young waiter was attentive and courteous. The tables are very close to each other so you can quiet easily hear each others conversations unintentionally. I'll continue to get take away here until there is some actual competition.

Enjoyed an Indian Banquet. The Somosa was a bit oily. The mains were better especially the Lamb Roganjosh. A few dollars more expensive than your average Indian restaurant.

Have been to tantra on a few different occasions and have mixed reviews not sure if the owners have changed hands or not the butter chicken used to me amazing but now so stringing and fatty . Service good but prices going up

Tantra Indian restaurant is an amazing restaurant that succeeded my expectations. This restaurant I tried for the very first time and me as well my family loved it as the food was amazing quality with many flavours and spices. To mention the staff was kind and hard working as well as the atmosphere was good. I recommend this restaurant to many as this is one of the best ones located in east Doncaster.

Normally this was my favourite place but our dine in experience was not very pleasing! I order food from Tantra very often for home delivery anywhere from $50 to $200 and usually the food is good. This time 7 of us went there to celebrate 2 birthdays this week and the service was appalling. We spent $443 and pretty much had to flag the wait staff to get drinks or additional food. The lamb was so over cooked it was inedible. And all the tables around were receiving service so it was a bit unsettling. As well as the fact that there was so many empty glasses on the table yet they were being taken a few here or there and left majority on the table. The prices have been increased so high that the expectation of a pleasant dining experience is expected. Complete fail.. Next time stop and at least ask if we need anything else instead of acting like your too busy to serve a table.. Ridiculous!
Jim
Had the Shahi Banquet for two and it was excellent. Despite the fact it was a very busy Saturday night the service was good and everything arrived without delay.

Delicious food extensive vegetarian menu service with smile can't ask for more will be back ambience is great only bit of distance from where we live but worth the travel

This place used to be one of my favourite Indian restaurants. I used to dine here at least one a month. My last experience with this place was very ridiculous. Between the 4 of us we were served 3 pieces of popadumms and were charged when we asked for more. Also we were charged corkage for 4 when only 2 of us had wine. The most surprising bit was the increase in prices. Each item on the menu has been unreasonably marked up in the last few months. There is no Indian restaurant that I have been to that is so overpriced. The owner seems to charge for every small thing he can charge you for and also adds a few by himself. I recommend checking the bill before u pay. The food is ok but surely not worth the price.

Fabulous! Some of the best Indian I have had in ages! We have gotten takeaway here twice, and both times there were little extra surprises thrown in that we weren't expecting. AND the second time they gave me a mango lassi while I waited to pick up my takeaway, yum!

My Motto is you can always tell how good an Indian place is by its butter chicken, and this was one of the best! Rich, beautifully coloured, nicely spiced and delicious!
Travel With Your Mouth
I have been recommended to this venue before...and that was a couple of years ago and it was amazing and like last week we went with a bunch of girls for a catch up and it was pretty good, we finished a solid meal of different types of naan and curries... but we also got got free gulab jamun... but it want that amazing. Dont try the masala chai either its too watery...but all in all good ambiance and experience ;) will come back but i am a harsh critique of indian food being indian and all...

We decided to try Tantra last night over our more regular indian restaurant down the road. Ordered butter chicken, lamb rogan josh and beef vindaloo with "basmati" saffron rice.
Though i must say servings are decent sized the food was not that great at all.
The butter chicken had no creamy texture to it. It was a fuzzy tomato taste with some almonds as a garnish. No cream, no smoothness to the flavour. The lamb in the curry was so tough and the pieces of diced lamb were burnt. It had a very strong lemon flavour to it which to be honest wasnt pleasing. The vindaloo was alright, the spice was just enough and the beef was much better than the lamb. Lastly the rice, Now it clearly states that they serve BASMATI rice. What we got was horrible thick Sella Rice which is very different and much cheaper than basmati rice. Just because you put saffron colour in the rice does not make it basmati!!!
I was not happy with our decision to try this restaurant and will definitely stick to our weekly indian restaurant further down the road, never compromising on quality. Worst experience ever !!!

Great food. My benchmark for Indian in Melbourne is Aangan in Footscray but looking for something closer to home we tried Tantra. When we arrived to pick up our food the restaurant was full with people waiting in the foyer I know why as the food was delicious. We had butter chicken and a vegie jalfrezi and both were awesome. Really tender chicken and the flavour was great. We didn't make a huge order but got some free papadums and raaita etc. Great meal and will be back, no need to travel to Footscray anymore!

Wished there was more. Delicious food but the portion size seems a bit small for the price you pay.

On the mark-heard something about possibly new owners tonight but the food we had including entree and main was delicious-especially for such a cold evening. Service however was a standout! Will return

Take away Disaster. Got take away twice - both times they missed something. When I called the 'owner' the second time he insisted I was lying and his staff had checked the order and offered me to come back for a $3.50 refund! I enlightened him, I wasn't after $3.50 - just wanted what I ordered and paid for! Very arrogant man!!

Yum Yum. Great atmosphere, lovely hospitality, and the food, fantastic. If I were home, I would have licked my plate.
4 yum, yums
