Review Doncaster Greek Tavern - Doncaster East

Highly recommend the dips and bread, meat platter and calamari. First time dining there was a very enjoyable experience, and exceptionally warm service.

We had the red caviar dip (bread was complimentary), scallops and seafood platter (comes with salad, whitebait, calamari, prawns, fish fillets and scallops). Everything tasted fresh and nicely cooked

Food was spot on, quick service, especially busy and under the pump. Chefs are very passionate about their food and cater to their customers. Bravo!

It was our(me and my husband)first experience with a Greek restaurant about a month ago and we absolutely loved it there. It is a pretty small family running which we used to pass by all the time and one cold night we decided to give it try as we had always seen it busy and full of customers. It was a bit pricy but I think was worth it. Adding to the quality of the food which we chose by the recommendation of people who worked there, the atmosphere was great and staff were absolutely kind, friendly and helpful. We will definitely go back and recommend it to others.

The food was delicious! An overall great experience

Consistently great food, we have been here a few times and every time the food is excellent. I think the servings are quite big. Especially their banquet for 2 or more. Tonight they were clearly understaffed as most places are (due to COVID and the flu). But they still provided fantastic, efficient and friendly service. Will definitely return again for a full flavored Greek food fix.

Great traditional Greek restaurant!! If you enjoy your Greek food I highly recommend you give this place a try. Everything cooked fresh and on the charcoal for that amazing taste that will leave you drooling over everything here.. from the meats to the seafood OMG that's all I'm gonna say.. Enjoy

4 person banquet is possibly the worst value for money i have ever had for a meal, $60 each and it was the same size as the 2 person banquet i had last time i ate there. Apparently 2 cutlets, 2 rissoles, 1 piece of potato, 1 peice of pumkin and a handful of over cooked gyros and 3 small plates of squid/calamari/fish (fish was actually quite nice) is worth $240 for 4 people. Took over 2hrs from start to finish. Could probably learn some planning techniques as the people we were dining with recieved their entree and mains before we even got our second plate, i could only imagine the excitement they would have had watching us eat. We use to enjoy this restaurant but we will not be back after this experience

Four of us dined here on Saturday night we had the most amazing staff waiting on us restaurant was full food was excellent would highly recommend this restaurant to everyone the atmosphere in the restaurant tops this place off

We always love going to the Doncaster Greek Tavern! The food is fabulous (my personal favourite is the chargrilled calamari), the service is great and we enjoy the lively atmosphere. Yummy desserts too. Top it off with BYO and it's everything we enjoy.

Had my 50th Birthday here with a party of 30, Can not say enough about the exceptional food which was not only tasty but there was plenty of it no one went hungry and the service from all staff was fantastic especially Mary who made sure everything ran smoothly, Gloria and Stefan could not do enough to help before during and even after my event. Best food !!! Best Service !!!

Amazing food, with service you cannot fault! Do yourself a favour and experience for yourself!

The theatre between the waiters on one side and the chef and his helpers on the other in the kitchen was a tad testy. Suspect there was a big mix up with the orders on a very busy night as it took forever to get our main course. Pity really as the food was fine.
Anna Papaziakas
Great place to have dinner, the food was great and the staff make you feel special, I really enjoyed my night, my husband and I celebrated our anniversary with our koumpari, we love going to doncaster tavern, thank you Gloria and Stefan

Fresh, tasty and cooked beautifully. Polished off scallops and a meat plater, truely was the best we'd ever had. I Ve been dreaming about it all weekend. Definitely recommend it to everyone. Kindest regards mike and Hawa Evans.

Had a great time here for my friends birthday. Food is amazing and staff are friendly.

This is a fabulous restaurant. Food is exceptional and the service is wonderful. Staff make you feel at home.

A noisy restaurant filled with lots of people . Probably not ideal for a quiet evening but typical loud and fun boisterous Greek. Staff are really welcoming and friendly. Prices are quite steep. We had the $50 banquet. The dips lacked flavour and were very bland. The bread wasn’t enjoyable. I’m not sure if it was meant to be like it was but it was dry. The Saganati was delicious and so was the octopus though it was a tiny tasting serve only.<br/>The seafood platter was lovely and everything on it tasted great. By the time the meat platter arrived we had eaten enough. The meat was good except for the dry tasteless little burger. Sweets were a small (Just as well) tasting of typical Greek morsels. We found the food overall was very salty.

Had dinner there recently, was really happy with the quality of the food and the very friendly service. Will be going back and will be recommending!

Visit this small corner Greek Tavern and you'll definitely feel at home. Serving authentic Greek food, the family behind the business is very friendly and will serve your table swiftly.<br/><br/>All dishes on the menu are top notch both in quality and flavour, you want it heavy or light they have it for you.<br/><br/>If you choose to visit, I really recommend their grilled octopus and tzatziki for the appetisers and the red snapper for the main as it's truly fresh from the sea. You won't be disappointed!<br/><br/>Thank you so much for the evening and hoping to visit you again soon in the future!
Foood4Dayzzz
This place has a pretty good feel about it, once you walk through the door. Some great Greek style food which is great. The only catch is that, it's not always open, so be sure to check the time.

Really disappointed. We were shown a table to sit at and menus thrust at us to order everything quickly before the larger party next to us orders so we get our food quickly. It was loud and difficult to hear, and had to ask for water to be refilled. After half an hour 2 of us received our meals , 30 minutes later we were told that one of the meals ordered had run out so we had to re order and the other 2 meals then followed 45 minutes after the first 2. So we did not get to eat together. After showing our dissatisfaction we were brought salad and bread and then some sweets. By then it was too late as the evening was spoilt so we left. Unfortunate as we were looking forward to dining here. Food wasn’t cheap, service was terrible. Won’t be returning to this restaurant.
Stevo
The staff were very friendly and service was great. We ordered banquet 1. There was definitely enough food for all of us and enough for us to take some home too! Saganaki was delicious!!!
Angel Girl
Just a little disappointed. Not cheap, but not amazing. Lamb souvlaki very small salad, no tatziki, no pita, nearly $30. Average service. Wouldn't return.

Heard from friends that the Doncaster Greek Tavern serve awesome food. My partner and I decided to try it. Walking into the restaurant we were immediately greeted and taken to our table. Everything in the menu sounds yummy so we decided to do the banquet for 2 people. <br/><br/>For entrée we had some warm bread with dips. The bread was homemade and the dips were tasty. The next course was the grilled marinated octopus. That was my favourite. The octopus was soft and not chewy, it was cooked to perfection. The last entrée was the saganaki. After all the entrées were served, there was a break which was really good. <br/><br/>Then, the seafood platter was served. There were fish, chargrilled prawns, calamari and white bait. Got to be careful with the fish though, we picked out a few bones but it didn't bother us but if you are with kids, please be careful. After we finished the seafood platter I was already quite full. There was another break before the meat platter and Greek salad came. In the meat platter there was gyros, chargrilled rissoles and lamb cutlets. The food was simply delish. I had doubts if I could fit in desserts but when desserts were served, I just made room for it! 😂 tea/coffee was served as well. for desserts there was Turkish delight, baklava and galaktobouriko. My favourite is the galaktobouriko. <br/><br/>If you are ordering the banquet, just be prepared to eat a lot of food. And if you can't finish, you could always take home the leftovers. One suggestion I could give is to serve the Greek salad when the seafood platter is serve. As it was served with the meat platter, by then we were ready almost full and couldn't really fit the salad in. 😂<br/><br/>Overall, the service was great, staff were all very friendly and most importantly the food was awesome! We will definitely be back.

Lastnight a friend were in Doncaster and came across a quite busy Greek restaurant, it was busy but service was on the ball, got seated very quickly, food was roughly 7/10 .. seemed quite rushed and just put on the plate.. could have better customer service but all in all wasn’t to bad.
Kylie
Lovely little Greek restaurant with excellent friendly service from the staff who were like a little family. They are very accommodating and the food was very delicious and in generous portions. We came in a large group so we ordered had mixed dips that came with bread, marida, saganaki, Greek salads, and the seafood platter and the meat platter, all of which tasted like authentic Greek food. Lovely experience and would love to return sometime.
Stellios
Great service, great food. We had the meat platter and the grilled octopus. Awesome taste, we didn't have to wait long for the food and we really felt the great Greek hospitality. Will definitely come again for the Greek food.

Thank you, for well-cooked Greek style food with great flavour, super fresh salad and the best Greek Ekmek Kataifi in Australia as voted by me!<br/><br/>Other dishes that my friends had, also looked well-presented , gyros, calamari , mixed grill for two, real souvlakia skewers, and they seemed happy  this was the general feeling by most of our table. <br/><br/>I have been to the disappointing Master Chef Greek restaurants in Melbourne that serve chicken salt, siracia chilli sauce, as a condiments to Greek style food? And have gone home hungry!<br/> Not so in this restaurant.<br/><br/>This is my first visit to this restaurant, but not my last.<br/><br/>Thank you for a great night out.<br/><br/>Beware of the changed parking times and  signs outside though.
Let There Be Food
I’ve always loved this place! I’m Greek and my yiayia makes the best greek food in the world but this place isn’t far behind!!! I recommend the banquet, it’s very filling but who cares it’s absolutely amazing! Great Geek vibes and excellent service! Food and deserts superb!!!
Kady
Pretty good. We chose the banquet and it did not dissapoint. <br/>There was so much food we couldn’t finish it. <br/>The atmosphere was great. The waiters were very talkative and made your experience enjoyable.<br/>The food overall was delicious, both platters of seafood and meat were full of goodies cooked to perfection. <br/>It was a lovely night.
Sofia
Have to say one of the best Greek restaurants around melbourne . There’s a authentic Greek vibe to the place that you see in Greece and the food is traditional classic Greek food <br/>. Classic and delicious ..
ToFeedTwo
Popped into here on a Saturday night with no booking & managed to score a table in the back area of this busy restaurant. ToFeedTwo became ToFeedSix and we were rather peckish.<br/><br/>We ordered the Moussaka, Greek Salad, Grilled Calamari, Gyros & Saganaki. We have all been fortunate enough to have visited Greece & the vibe in this restaurant felt like we were back there. As for the food, it was very tasty & bursting with flavour - safe to say there wasn’t a scrap left over!
Jimmy
Great greek restaurant had a great time last night. The food and service was amazing. It felt like i was eating in a taverna Greece. Will definately be back and a big thank you to Gloria for her hospitality :)
Mediterranean Greek Tavern
Finally had a day off from work and decided to try Doncaster Greek tavern. <br/>From the moment we walked in we were made to feel part of the family. Food plentiful with beautiful<br/>flavour.Standout dish was the meat platter . <br/>Great night out.

Went here for the first time after a recommendation from a friend. To be honest I will not be going back. The food was good but not worth the price tag associated with it. The services was terrible. We had book for 16 people and two people were running late. My friend was there with her two austic sons... we wanted to organise some appatisie and food for the kids while waiting for the other guest but we were told "we cannot take your order until all your guest arrive"... this included ordering drinks as well because my partner tried to order a coke 3 times prior to being told can you wait until you order your food please. When finalising the bill despite it being over 500 dollars i was told i was not able to split the bill... a very disappointing night overall from the restraunt but thankful saved by the good company of great friends.

Went to this tavern last night, as always on a Saturday night it was busy....but that does not forgive the service given to us. The food was slower than a bread line in communist Russia, the waiter made more excuses than Richard Nixon and after the long wait, the food was on par with the standards I would expect at a roadside eatery in Kabul. <br/><br/>For the prices that this restaurant charges, one would really expect first class but it was appalling. I was once a fan of this restaurant now I will vote with my feet and not return. BTW when trying to explain why there is a delay with the food I would highly suggest that the wait staff come up with a better excuse than the poor response of "even at McDonald's you have to wait for your food". Although there is some truth in this comment, the difference is at McDonald's the staff are highly trained and do not make patrons wait 2 hours for their food!!!

Did a takeout here and the friendly gentleman greeted me to help me take my order. <br/><br/>🌟🌟🌟🌟Lamb Souvlaki<br/>🌟🌟🌟✨Blue Eye Fillet<br/>🌟🌟🌟🌟Greek Salad<br/>🌟🌟🌟🌟2 free Baguettes <br/><br/>Well packed and presented, had a tasty wholesome meal at home and didn't break the bank. <br/><br/>The restaurant itself was traditional, spacious, neat and clean and will hope to return for dine in next time.

I honestly don't know how this Tavern has survived for this long. Service was appalling. After asking twice, we still did not get our bill as the waiter preferred the place to look busy and keep us at the window table. Then muttered something about us running out the door. Food was average at best. Meat was very oily and fatty. I am very familiar with greek food and this was one of the worst ones I have been to.

Second time here and again one of the best Greek food around ..<br/>Husband and wife team, he cooks and she looks after the diners .<br/>Dips great , pity about no pita bread thou they have a home made bread but not the same without pits bread ..<br/>Grilled octopus amazing .<br/>Followed by a meat platter , one of the best around .<br/>Few pics this time round but was to busy eating rather than taking pics ..<br/>Do yourself a favour , eat here !!! <br/>

Staying true to its Greek heritage, Doncaster Greek Tavern serve hearty portions of meat, upon meat, upon meat. I stopped in for dinner on a Thursday evening as part of a group of 8. Ours was a group of teachers that were farewelling one of our own off on her next big adventure. The décor and ambience are nothing memorable. With fairly dated furniture and the service being a bit prickly, I suggest visiting only for the food. Being a school night, none of us chose to go hard (responsibilities and all…). This choice seemed to annoy our hostess a tad and she was quite abrupt with our group. Her hospitality skills may have been left in bed that morning, and she seemed genuinely annoyed at us for some unknown reason.

The food was great! However, I was absoloutely appauled by the service given. The owner to what it seemed, did not engage into helping us on what to order as well as wanting us to hurry up& to top it off put the bill right in front of us whilst having a chat without us even asking for it showing he wanted us out of the restraunt because we didn't want desert. I don't usually get annouyed but this was the worse possible service i've had and would not be returning due to this - the food was delicious though!
Tony Mills
I had the Moussaka accompanied by a small Horiatiki salad - in a word DELICIOUS - would rank amongst the best I had over many years of "Eating Greek", only wish I'd discovered this place years ago.  Will definitely be back.
Midi Et Soir
The best Greek #moussaka I've ever tried at @ the Greek tavern Doncaster east. It's off their menu but you know what to order when you are in the Greek restaurant. It is a family owned restaurant and also a B.Y.O. place. The services are beyond excellence. I would love to go back again

Saturday November 5....7.30 booking 2 adults and 2 children...Poor service. .....Undercooked fish....overcooked meat. Night ruined by rude and waiter who obviously didn't appreciate children in the restaurant. Octopus and calamari in particular oily and chewy to be frank wasn't edible. <br/>Prices over the top for standard Greek food which no better than a food van definitely not restaurant quality...
Husain Bana
We went in a group of about 20 people and even though we booked well in advance we were forced to wait for about 15 minutes before we could get our tables and settle down. The wait staff was considerate and helping us throughout the course of dining. We found the food pretty average given the price (certainly not value for money) and to further ruin our experience, the restaurant 'owner' (a Greek lady) was very rude to us while settling our bill. Despite having arranged for split payments (on a single bill) beforehand with George (probably restaurant manager) while booking, she literally started shouting at us for paying separately. What would she had done, had we dined in as separate families? One more restaurant registered in our blacklist.
Georgie Triantafillou
Went here for the first time tonight. Customer service wasn't great, the guy pretty much just threw our food on the table and walked off. The lamb was nice, the chicken was cold though. The servings are pretty small for the price also. Probably won't be going back.

I went with a group of friends for a nice birthday dinner out however my whole night was ruined by the disgusting service from the Asian waitress. I almost left mid meal. She was rude, didn't bring any water even though we asked several times. No glasses or cutlery were brought until again asked several times. She didn't know the products on the menu. The only thing I can say was that the food was good thanks to the chef. So if you're looking for some nice service I suggest another tavern.
Sharonb1966
Excellent service and friendly welcoming staff accompanied by delicious food!<br/>We were a large group and everyone thoroughly enjoyed their meals. Generous serving sizes.
Convivialsins
One of the better Greek joints I've been for a while. Chargrilled octopus was darn good. We ordered the banquet for 2. By the time the meat platter came we were stuffed!! Literally! have to say though that post Hellenic Bite... lamb is never as gd!! WIR? Yeah definitely to try other dishes. Next time I'll b more selective, I ate so much that I wobbled out!! :)
GlutenFreeGirl
Doncaster Greek Tavern has an authentic Greek family feel to it which I like. Very busy on Saturday nights and especially noisy this time. Ordering with a GF requirement is difficult because there are no GF hints on the menu, it's hard to talk about the options because of the noise and waiter seemed a bit disinterested. Of the four meals our group ordered, three were very tasty. KG Whiting was excellent. We went somewhere a bit quieter for dessert.
Irene
Unfortunately we were very disappointed with the food at this restaurant.<br/>It wasn't the first time we had eaten there either. We were never this dissapointed. My husband ordered the squid as a main it was put in a frying pan without a salad or chips! A main! Unheard of !!!   It was tasteless and over cooked.<br/>I ordered a moussaka which was missing the eggplant and potatoes!   There was only Mince and bechemel  sauce which tasted like flour!!!<br/>There was another cook this time...we had to laugh because when we looked in the kitchen we noticed that he was Asian lol and the waitress was Turkish lol<br/>What a waste of money!!!<br/>We thought it strange not being full as always, obviously people have gone and realized how bad as had we. Which explains it all!!<br/>We will never be going back there again!!!  <br/>It is embarassing  to call it a Greek taverna.<br/>If I could rate zero I would!<br/>Not recommended! Must be avoided!

Our older male waiter passed us menus without greeting anyone. When ordering a beer he shouted "a what?!" in my partner's ear. I ordered marinated octopus and friend had bbq octopus. Waiter bought 2 serves of bbq octopus and when we told him one of them should be marinated (a whole table of 7 can confirm this) he argued that he wrote down 2 BBQ. I don't doubt he wrote it down wrong, but maybe he should have repeated the order back to us. He bought a marinated ocotpus to the table and said it's on the house - for us to then be charged for the BBQ octopus which is more expensive. Now, yes I could have eaten the BBQ one, but that's not what I wanted! I wanted a fresh, salady type dish. He kept repeating "they're two different things, you sure you want marinated?" - we were so puzzled because yes I do! It was a humorously awful night, and food could have been better but it was so lacking. Save your money and head closer to the city for an equally priced meal with good service and better food!

OMG! The food is so fabulous! What a find. Service very friendly and accommodating, but a bit slow - understandable as we had a party of 30 people, so it gave us lots of time to digest our meals. Will definitely return. So highly recommended!
Lauren Fusco
Semi-friendly atmosphere. Don't expect too much for the price you pay as the "main meals" don't come with any substantial sides, we all left still hungry after paying over $100 for a table of four without ordering any drinks. The food was nice and tasted like authentic Greek cuisine and a nice selection of banquets and desserts. Would most likely not return.
SaHappy Feet
Came in with friend and had the banquet which was more than enough food for us. Everything was tasty, favourite was the warm cheese in the foil with red capsicum and saganaki. The lamb had good flavour and not too salty, the seafood also tasted fresh which was great. The place is on theme with greek ambience and the staff are helpful. Obviously during peak times it can get loud but the food kept coming out. Really liked the dips, they tasted home made rather than bulk purchased. Nice place to come as a couple and with family. Recommended.

Couldn't find anywhere open/still serving food on NYE came across this place & it was packed, didn't think we had a chance of getting a table but they squeezed us in no problem! Service was fast & efficient & food was hard to fault! Nice little find. Good Greek food :)
Teagan Fraser
Service was pretty slow and the waiter wasn't very helpful when we asked about the menu but the food was delicious!! Ideal serving sizes and all the meat was tender, juicy and cooked to perfection.
Sophie
Great place and fantastic food . Very pleasant staff and the place is kid friendly . Very generous serves as well. Desserts amazing very satisfying
W Huang
Generous portions of generally decent and at times outstanding food. With a large group, the banquet portion was called for so that we could try a bit of everything. The variety we were given for the entree augured well, and the marida (whitebait) and grilled octopus were standouts. It was a shame that the bread, while serviceable and generously served, was a little bit too dry. The seafood course that followed was even better and was clearly the highlight, the fish fillets soft yet firm in texture and subtly flavoured, the prawns marinated just right. At that point, we had very high expectations for the meat course, which was nearly as good, especially the lamb cutlets and the gyros. The chicken souvlaki on skewers, while also of good flavour, was a little overcooked, but we were happy with it anyway. And finally, the range of sweets offered was great and they were all definitely worth trying. Service was warm and friendly. It's no highbrow Greek celebrity establishment, but the Tavern is a great place to go for a traditional Greek fix.
Kat Aycardo
Generous and delicious food. The real stand out is the wonderful and warm service. Family friendly is always a plus in the area. Will definitely be back

OTT service! As soon as you walk in the door it is like you have married into a Greek family. The staff here treat you like their honoured guest. We stayed well past closing time - staff were sweeping and packing down tables - but were encouraged to relax, linger and talk so much so that we were almost expecting them to pull out the spare bed! The food was standard Greek style fare, fresh and well cooked, but it's the service that is the specialty here.
Peter Psaradellis
excellent service and the food was ridiculously good, don't often get online to write a review but this place definitely deserves a mention considering some of the other places around aren't that good :(
Isabella
The food here is always delicious and tasty (especially the fish and meat) and the staff are genuine and welcoming!
Leonie Branson
Best Greek food around, easy to see why so busy, the food was plentiful and excellent quality. The smiling friendly service made us all very comfortable and the hosts steve and Gloria were very Welcoming. An absolute treasure of a restaurant already got our next meal there in mind. Very reasonable costs and loved the rose wine too. We had mixed dips, whole snapper, whiting, meat platter. Saganaki, seafood mixed platter and halva for dessert. Eight very hard to please diners went home very happy and cant wait to dine in again. It was a Fri night cold winters night but warm inside. Well worth the trip out in the cold.
Kathy Katopodis
Every time we have been have always had a great time. Food is delicious. Pricing is reasonable. Staff are friendly and management are hands on. Can highly recommend this tavern for birthdays, christenings or any excuse for a party. It's covered courtyard is perfect summer or winter. It is great for dinner for two but as it is always busy intimate conversations are difficult. This is my favourite<br/> greek tavern.
John Lewis
Lovely owners and staff. Very popular - generally a good sign. Price OK, food pretty good, but standard Greek menu. 3.5 out of 5 not bad (shrugs shoulders in style of elderly Greek man). Not bad.
Damo
I have been to this place about 6 times before and I regret to say last night reflected the worst service ever! So much so that it spoilt the average Greek fare that was served. Wine served by the glass is not poured at the table (god knows what I was drinking), mains delivered before entrees were finished etc. There was a general non attentive attitude - come on boys learn some hospitality 101 principles! As indicated the food was average - char grilled octopus was overcooked as was the whiting. I will not be coming back.
Paulfoodie
Used to come here a lot. Unfortunately we moved away. They make lovely gyros. The grilled writing was the best, nicely seasoned and tasted delicious.
Chris Somers
We really enjoyed our dinner here on a Saturday night. <br/><br/>Delicious meats, salads, grilled octopus, saganaki and Greek deserts. <br/><br/>We'll definitely be back<br/>
Rachel V
Travel to Greece every year so my expectations are high. I'm yet to find greek restaurant that reminds me of Greece and I think it's because the produce is not the same. We ordered the banquet for two and It was generous and value for money. It was average in taste. Don't think I'd come back- will wait to taste the real stuff

Another great meal at DGT. .... Another great meal at DGT.<br/>Food is fresh and cooked well.<br/>Reasonably priced and pleasant atmosphere.
Melinda_s99
Great Night!. Had dinner here last night. We ordered a banquet for the 10 of us. The food was delicious, fresh and in abundance. The service was great too. Would definitely recommend.
Corgi The Foodie
Decent but not amazing. We are locals here but it was our first time here at this restaurant. Maybe because we have had better Greek food at Jim's or George's, we were not wowed by the food here. Don't get me wrong- the lamb skewers were just nicely done with the charred exterior. However, their moussaka was bland, and Greek salad, while generous, was far from our homemade one. My husband liked the saganaki, but it was too salty for my liking. Service was friendly but if given a choice, I don't think I'd go back there again. Maybe we've been spoilt.
I Have A Reservation
Yesss. This place always gets a yes from me.
Helen Markogiannakis
Fantastic Fantastic FANTASTIC!. We were here last night for my birthday dinner and i have to say it was beyond my expectations. it was a last minute decision to book as my first choice was shut, and i have to say that it could not have turned out any better. We were a party of 15 and the young waiters that served us were polite, attentive and ensured that we had what we needed all night. The food was amazing and plentiful, and although i was embarrassed, appreciated the singing at the end. The menu is diverse and not at all overpriced. We will be back. Thank you for a wonderful experience.

Love this place - welcoming, generous and delicious. We have been here four times and had a great experience each time. Service is warm and friendly. The food is delicious, particularly love the dips, warm crusty bread, saganaki and the amazing meat platter. Lamb chops and chicken skewers were amazing tonight. It is very noisy and a bit chaotic, so choose somewhere else if you want to have quiet meal. We have never made it to dessert or coffee because we are always too full.so can't comment about them. It is not cheap but very good value for the quality and quantity of food.
BBG
Excellent!. Almost everything is tops. Good menu, great food, reasonable prices. The proprietors/managers are fabulously friendly and oversee the place. Consistently good experience over many visits.<br/><br/>DGT is usually very busy and thus noisy. If you are after a quiet romantic place or serious conversation over dinner, somewhere quieter might suit better. If you are after a really good meal and feeling like a valued customer, you would struggle to do better than DGT. One of our favourites.
FITB
A real treat! :D. Went here tonight with my partner, and the food was amazing! The meat platter was plentiful for two people, and had an amazing charcoal grilled taste to it. The grilled scallops and octopus were also delicious. Then to top off with the dessert and the lovely turkish delight - a wonderful end to the night. Genuine and great customer service on top of that as well! <br/><br/>Highly recommended and thank you! :)
Kirsty
Atmosphere is fantastic and the good is even better! Customer service is phenomenal, 5 stars!

From Fairfield. From the moment my partner and I arrived, we were welcomed by Steve, Gloria and his lovely staff. Fantastic authentic Greek food not to mention the quality service and at a very reasonable price too. If you want to experience the best that Greek food has to offer without the celebrity tag to it, look no further than Doncaster Greek Tavern.
Felicity Langton
Such friendly service. From the moment I rang to say I would be late till we waved goodbye our hosts were friendly and welcoming.<br/><br/>food lovely as well - good value on the banquet I thought.<br/><br/>definitely hope to have the chance to go again soon
Lucyhenshaw98
AWESOME. AMAZING great service and brilliant authentic Greek food

Horrible service. My family and I went there and the service was horrible!! The waiter ignored us the majority of the time and didn't listen when he was.<br/><br/>Not good enough

AMAZING GREEK CUISINE. We dined for a party 12 on a tuesday night and it was PACKED! So that was a good sign! We had gotten the 43$ banquet for the 12 of us and it was as if we were feeding a party for 20! The food was amazing traditional greek food! The meats the seafood the dips! Compliments to the female waitress gloria whom had noticed we were here for my partners birthday, where we treated with a lovely birthday song for the whole restaurant to join in! Terrible. Horrible male waiters however the lady waitress was very good. Food was terrible. The bread with the dips was stale and hard to chew. The dips themselves were okay. The saganaki was overpriced and chewy. The meat platter was over rated. The lamb was chewy and fatty. The chicken skewers were undercooked & the salad was iceberg lettuce with 4 pieces of cucumber. My party of 7 will not be returning.

Not a second chance .. Overrated and small servings .Dips for four were enough for two..A bit disappointing .Some staff were rude..

Not a fan. Overpriced for what you get. One small plate of fried cheese for $13? No thank you! I understand that things have to be cooked in oil but I couldn't stomach more than a few bites because of how much oil was on the food! Each main served with bread? Tiny loaves which looked and tasted like they had been sitting out all day. Probably won't be returning. If I do, it would be because the staff are lovely!

Fantastic authentic food. No frills. It's all about the food. Love it

Wonderful food amazing service , great find. Thoroughly recommend the meat platter .

Ordered the meet platter. Overpriced and lacking flavour, could have done with a dip or something. Service was good though.

Delicious food, friendly staff, we waited for quite a while though and had to get the rest of our food take away after 2.5 hours. Will definitely return but not on a sat night.

Awesome food in the suburbs! Chef Peter is amazing, the food is just like your in Greece. Great place, great people, no wonder we come here every week!

Friendly service, meat platter + seafood platter MORE than filled up our family of four. Meat was quite salty, and fish had an odd taste, but overall satisfied. I may come again to try other dishes as it is local, though it was a bit on the pricey side of $130~ for four.

LOVE LOVE LOVE. I grew up eating Greek food and this was amazing - the only other Greek I can say is as good is in Oakleigh .. You have to try the Lima beans, the whitebait and pretty much every entree to get an idea of how authentic this food is ...<br/><br/>Will be back for sure .. <br/><br/>Oh and the staff were all so friendly and even a bit cute when there was some pressure in the kitchen - the place was packed out !!

Kali Orexi. My partner and I wanted to eat Greek. We always end up at one of two Greek restaurants in Oakleigh, which we enjoy. On our recent Melbourne visit, we decided to look further than under our noses. What we found will ensure that our taxes paid on petrol will get a hammering every time we are in Melbourne.<br/>What a find.<br/>We were greeted by a lovely lady who was vibrant and friendly and made us feel like we were in her family home, not a restaurant.<br/>We then looked at the menu and with so many delicious sounding items decided that the banquet was for us.<br/>My partner has an onion allergy and we were told straight up the items that contained onions (two dips and the hamburgers). He was more than compensated for this by bringing an extra large serving of the most beautiful tzatziki I think I had ever tasted.<br/>I had the taramasalata and the eggplant dips, which were served with marinated octopus and broad beans that I could happily go back and just eat a bowl of them. Word of warning, try and eat the dips with minimal bread, there is so much food to come that if you eat the bread you will struggle to eat it all.<br/>I don't drink alcohol and will normally have tonic water. They didn't have any and I was more than happy to choose a different drink. The owner said to me, I will go and buy some tonic water for you. I told hi not to be silly, I was happy with the Greek bottled lemonade. Sure enough, he trotted off and came back with bottles of tonic water for me. Very impressed.<br/>We then got served the grilled octopus, which had been beautifully charcoaled.<br/>The seafood platter consisted of the most tender calamari that had been lightly dusted with flour and cooked, whitebait, king prawns and two pieces of blue cod. All of it was mouth watering.<br/>We then got our Greek salad, minus the onion (they remembered) which had some of the yummiest marinated feta on it.<br/>Then the meat platter arrived.<br/>Lamb cutlets, chicken skewers, hamburger for me and a huge serving of gyros meat. I have never tasted gyros meat like that, ever. It had a spice or herb on it which was sublime. There was also some potato and pumpkin.<br/>We then had a selection of Greek pastries for dessert. All yummy.<br/>My partner had his Greek coffee, while I sat and enjoyed the flavours still mingling in my mouth.<br/>I had the two drinks and my partner had two beers. We walked out and only paid $100 for the whole experience.<br/>My partner said it was the best Greek food he had eaten outside of Greece.

Xmas eve banquet dinner! It was absolutely superb. The food was fantastic, the staff were absolutely attentive and switched on yet friendly and casual. It really was personalised service and nothing was too much trouble. The absolute highlight for me was the galaktoboureko. I'm sorry mum but this one was better than yours. It really is to die for! Can't wait to go back! Thank you Doncaster Greek Tavern for a truly great night!

The female was waitress was .... The female waitress was just delightful... Food only average ... Lacked flavour. Although there were some elements that were nice but the biggest complaint is that the male waiter that seated us was abrupt and rude unless of course you were a 50 something remotely attractive female then he was nothing short of sleazy!..<br/>. Food stored out in the open for quick access and chef's eating as they work was also a bit of a put off but like I said the waitress was so helpful, gracious and friendly... Lucky really other wise I think our review would have been much worse...

Review. Most tender fresh seafood I've ever tasted...amazing! We got a banquet and were too full to eat any more by the time the meat platter came! Highly recommended Greek restaurant from a very fussy Greek!!!

Went there on the weekend with some friends. Got the banquet for 8 people, which was great value. Some very tasty dishes, and the seafood was amazing. Only complaint is that there was too much food :)<br/><br/><br/>-----01 Oct, 2013-----<br/><br/>Best Greek food I've had. The chefs seafood is flawless, amazing dishes with accompanied by amazing tastes. Definately a must

Food servings, especially platters, are very small yet overpriced. Staff were taking our plates whilst we were still eating and carrying them over our coats that were folded over a chair. Will not be going back.

Ate here last night with my partner for the first time and it certainty won't be the last! We shared the banquet for 2 people and it was absolutely delicious. Flavoursome dishes and extremely generous portions for the price! The octopus and calamari were a stand out. The dips were beautifully authentic. The meat was tender and cooked to perfection. And our waitress was absolutely perfect, and when she saw we were full even offered to let us takeaway our dessert! Definitely a great place for a date or casual dinner. Affordable, delicious and great service! Can't wait to go back and try more dishes!

Christening Function. We held our baby's christening here on a Saturday Night & it was a great night. Everybody loved all the food! There were plenty of compliments to the Chef and there was plenty of food. The calamari just melted in your mouth and the meat was perfect - very nice quality too compared to many of the other Greek Restaurants in the area. Would definately reccommend for a function, it is a cosy & intimate atmosphere and great for family dinner. The service was great even though it was very busy. Love the Ekmek! Definately worth visiting!!! Thanks for everything.

Good Greek Food. New ownership (since 2012) has brought with it great food. The food is great. The char grilled octopus & beautifully seasoned gyros are simply sensational. Home made bread is a nice touch also. Best Greek food in the area.
