Review Bamboo Chopsticks Restaurant - Doncaster East

Cecilia Wong
Cantonese food is reasonably good and consistent. This is an institution that has been around for years. Has an authentic Chinese restaurant feel with service to match. Dishes we ordered were all good. Outstanding were the sweet and sour pork ribs and the taro duck which is a special. No sign of social distancing though. The small restaurant is packed on the Saturday night with people squeezed in every corner. The waiters did wear masks though. Would probably go back, maybe not in a pandemic.

We went for dinner and ordered two chief’s special dishes. The dishes are both delicious, we enjoyed them all and finished them all. Steven, the gentlemen there was really friendly and helpful. This is definitely a hidden gem around Jackson Court.

Disgraceful service and quality of food. My husband ordered a large special fried rice to have it come with two pieces of prawns and a few tiny bits of meat. Serving size was tiny as well for a large for the price. They sent a completely different item as well to what I had ordered for myself. Very disappointing..

My experience with this food delivery (Menulog) was utterly disappointing! The person who did the delivery did not ring the doorbell / call upon delivery. Hence, I didn't know the food has arrived because the delivery time kept pushing back. When I checked the website and it stated delivered, I went out to the door to check. The food was delivered but it was placed on the wet concrete floor. My food was covered in snails and slug which was disgusting! I literally had lost my appetite. However, I need to say that the food from this restaurant were legitimately good. The restaurant was considerate enough to pack my sweet and sour pork separately from the sauce to maintain the quality of the food. The fried rice was superb. The portion of the food that I ordered were huge in portion, but I ordered everything large too. I was able to eat it over a few days! The food were nicely packed to prevent any spillage. I would recommend this place for its quality of food but Menulog definitely has to deal with the delivery situation!

FRIED RICE !!! Terrible, how about putting some more shrimp 🍤 instead of having 2 in the whole serve, no spring onion, very very plain & no flavour, small serve for the money .
Mel T
Great place for ordering dishes. Their soy sauce chicken and soft shell crab dish is tasty. Overall the taste is very authentic Chinese. Everytime we go there, the food has been consistently good. The restaurant itself is not as big. It can get a little crampy but it's clean and neat. The service is quick and great. Would recommend booking in advance to secure a spot. Otherwise there can be a wait to get in. Take away available too.

Waiters are nice. Food was below average compared to previous years. it has changed. Ive been going for the past 15 years and this has to be the worst time ever. I always get the sour and sweet pork and it was just soggy and disgusting to eat. Dont even get started on portion sizing. I hear that he younger brother has taken over the kitchen and i have to say that he is doing a poor job at keeping up with the dish quality. Also, 4 dishes with rice was $129 . I gave $200 and they only changed me 21. Only to have realise that i was partially scammed when i got home. I tried to call @ 930pm and no one answer. Drove there and already close before the listed 10pm trading hours time. Would love my $50 back and never going back again. You have lost a regular.

Since Rasa Malaya closed - this is the go to for our Asian meals (have only done takeaways so far), good portions and good prices!!🤤🤤

Good food will be back again

I have been avoiding this place for the last few years due to the horrendous service but having read some recent positive reviews, I decided to give it a 2020 chance with the family.

I visited with my posse on Wednesday 26/2/2020 at 5.30pm. The place was deserted but I wasn't sure if it was virus related or food related. We were greeted by the friendly staff - this really bowled me over! I was half expecting scowls but there were none here.

On to the food. We had 4 dishes. The highlight was the the salt and pepper pork ribs. This was golden delicious! Second best was the pepper steak - the beef was so tender. The sauce could have been slightly more peppery. The salt fish tofu lacked flavour and the sweet and sour flounder came in quite bony pieces. We received complimentary watermelon at the end of the meal.

So it felt like there was a slight drop in the standard of the food but the friendly service made up for it. The dog days are over at Bamboo Chopsticks!

Bamboo Chopsticks seems to have changed hands. After a long break due to horrible service, dubious pricing issues ($60 overcharge) and the rudest service possible we went here for many years due to the good Chinese food. We relented tonight and gave it another chance. Glad we did because the service was so friendly that I wondered if I’d called the wrong number. The food is still as good but the change in service standards and attitudes is the big change. Fingers crossed the previous owners haven’t ruined the reputation for these lovely people. Definitely going back for more.

I have been to Bamboo Chopsticks a few times with family and everytime without fail either the dish on the bill will be wrong or the total added up on the bill will be incorrect. This is pretty poor practice and excusable if it were to happen once, but it is odd that it has happened everytime I have gone there.

The food however is well balanced in flavour and tasty. It makes for a good meal if you're looking for one but be wary of how much each dish costs and pull out your calculator to add up prices.

very good service

This restaurant serves noodles and ordered dishes. Varieties of food choice from menu. Prices reasonable and all their ordered dishes are real delicious cooked to perfection. Not many tables, have to make booking in advance.

Dishes were flavourful, reminded me of the food back home. Would come back to try their other dishes.

A downfall would be the rice, it was a little bit dry.
Sarina Chi
Rude staff. I asked for some chilli sauce when I picking up my take away, the staff said to me, don't you have it at home. Now I'm wondering if I need to take all the seasoning when I dine in next time, but probably won't be next time.
Custardbun
This is an “eat and run” sort of place - whilst the food was flavoursome and had the all important “wok hei”, the restaurant is very cramped. Be prepared to share a table with strangers! The eggplant with pork was excellent, although the eggplant to rice ratio was disproportionate. Very generous servings, particularly if you are carb loading!
Patrick Tan
The food is good. But the service staff have totally ruined my appetite and hence my rating.

Not recommended unless you want 1st class rude service.
Vivian
A small humble Chinese restaurant that we frequent to , the inside is very small so dine in is usually very cramped. The food I do find is quite oily but the chef cooks up a few good dishes that we like to come back for. The seafood tofu soup, the salted egg chicken ribs, the lemongrass chicken ribs, the garlic water spinach and the steamed fish .
Chris Papas
Been going to this restaurant for a while now due to there delicious meals and always wondered why we never got sliced oranges after our meal like the rest of the asians which compliments an asian meal. Is it because we’re not Asian. Decided to ask them can we have some sliced oranges too, they looked at us strangely and weren’t happy about it and brought us some. Find this very rude because they still hesitate in giving us sliced oranges whenever we dine here. But the food is delicious.Thats why we keep coming back, even though the two waitresses are a bit of a sour puss.
Has anyone experienced this

The reviews and ratings of Bamboo Chopsticks are polarised: 1* or 4*. To summarise the reviews written by patrons: 1) unkind service by the waitresses, 2) overpriced if you dine in, 3) better opt is to take away. This is a strategy to simplify management of BC. They intend to turn BC into a take away outlet. If you intend to take away, here are some suggestions: sweet and sour fish, chicken spare ribs, peipa tofu, string bean minced pork, eggplant hotpot and soy sauce chicken.

I had never seen such a bad attitude aunties from the moment we walked in till we finish dinner, they had been staring at us! We order so much and all they want is to want us to leave as sooon as possible and kick us out! The look on their face make us feel super uncomfortable!!!!!!!!

No matter how gd it taste, (which is just normal) very small shop u can’t sit probably! Anyway I would never ever come here again! U will feel like they want to kill u.....
Willzie
The faces of those two female staff (one of them probably is the owner?) are just disgraceful. They never look happy to see you coming there. They only seem to be interested in people who speak Cantonese.
The Food Baby Maker
Small restaurant but good food super tasty. Favourite dish for the night was the eggplant and pork claypot was delicious. Would definitely be back again and take my parentals too.
TimInMelb
This place has fast service, with authentic Chinese food, and at quite a reasonable price. It has become a bit of a favorite with some of my Chinese friends, despite being a little smaller than other Chinese restaurants. It's not a place I should go for a big celebration, but rather for a good quality quick Chinese meal.
Annie And Peter Food Journey
One of the treasure in Doncaster area. Value for money.
Quick service. Food always tasty.
You can also byo seafood and paid preparation fees.
Golden mud crab ( with salted egg yolk)
Honey pepper beef ribs, sweet and sour pork are traditional. Seafood claypot.

Our family’s go to Chinese restaurant whenever we’re in the north-east quadrant of Melbourne. Many of the patrons have been coming for years and with good reason – great Chinese cooking, good portion sizes and value for money prices. The fried whole barramundi is the star dish for me, flash fried to give it a crispy outer while preserving the delicate moist flesh within and then smothered in a delightful mix of tofu, tofu sticks, pak choy and chicken pieces (yes that last one isn’t a typo). Because we never really look at the menu, I’m not a 100% certain whether this dish is even on there but if all else fails show them the picture below:
Y Foodie
We had their Chef recommendations, pickled vegetable and fried pork rib noodle, and the mixed vegetable with fried noodle. Definately worth the value...prices between $11 to $15 for a plateful of yummies (lots of ingredients), the chef is not stingy with the veges. He is however a bit heavier on the flavour, but definately not over the top. Definately will return.
Mystic Rainbow
Authentic, nice service although a bit crammed, would defs recommend to all who want to have Chinese food, and legitimate meal that is consistent in every dish
Joey167cky
I am so disappointed !! Poor service, I’ve never been treating like this in my entire life 😭 they said they are closing at 10:30 but then they force us to leave the restaurant impolitely at 9:30, and the waitresses there were very disrespectful. Guys, believe it or not, I strongly recommend you don’t go to this restaurant.
Lau Vincent
Good tasty food for what we ordered mostly fried stuff because of our two kids. Price reasonable as well. Will come back if happens to be there again

We’ve been to Bamboo Chopsticks a handful of times and every time we get there we are greeted with the worst customer service in any Asian restaurant, and that’s saying a lot. The ladies behind the counter are so rude, unaccommodating, inhospitable and generally act like all their customers owe them money and are there to beg for free food. Whenever we request for anything - water, soy sauce or napkins - they will comply begrudgingly like it’s just too much work. We have never seen them smile or put in any effort to make us feel welcome, they stand around and stare at us while we eat and shoo us away the moment we finish. One can’t help but feel jibbed and offended by their bad attitude.

Dishes are mediocre at best, bland and overpriced. They also charge customers rice per head so if you don’t finish the rice they serve you in the stainless steel tub you get charged for it anyway and they will top it up and serve to the next paying customers which we find ridiculous.

This will definitely be the last time we pay for food at this place. Why people tolerate this sort of attitude ever - even when they think the food is good - is beyond us. It is just unacceptable regardless.

Local Chinese takeaway joint - Bamboo Chopsticks will deliver the goods every time. We decided to dine in at what is always a busy restaurant for a lovely catch up and were quickly accommodated & looked after.

Sweet & Sour Pork: sticky, flavoursome and delicious. Szechuan Chicken: somewhat spicy, full of sauce & mouth watering. The Fried Rice was good too.

Their Satay Chicken is another favourite of ours, if not the favourite, but didn't order on this occasion. So Bam! Boo! Get your chopsticks out and head on down!
Flabnbone Food
Great place for a quick lunch or dinner. Really recommend the Malaysia beef dish. It's sweet and sour with a very mild chilli taste. Taste really good. Other menu highlights would be the lemon grass chicken ribs and the fried salted egg yolk chicken. I also like the four season stir fry beans. Authentic asian flavors.

Instagram @Flabnbone_Food
Mad Lamb
This is honestly one of my favourite places to eat in Melbourne. The flavours are exactly what my Chinese-ness needs on a regular basis. Please try the chicken mince spicy eggplant dish - I've never tasted anything like it. Just writing this review makes me salivate. There's enough "wok qi" in every dish - golden egg battered chicken ribs, seafood tofu etc etc. I could go on.
I'm only docking points for lack of service because Chinese aunties don't do service, they let the food speak for itself. The kitchen is speedy so you won't be waiting long, but if you have a group on Saturdays, you'll need to book!

Been coming here for years. Never had a bad meal. It's like coming home. All the dishes are generous and delicious. Tonight we had chicken ribs cooked with salted eggs, chicken with tofu, salted fish in a clay pot and snow pea shoots fried with garlic. Chicken ribs were succulent and tasty. The clay pot dish was fragrant with the salted fish which permeated through the tofu. Snow pea shoots were young, freshly picked and with just the right amount of garlic. You know the warm feeling you get in the tummy after a great meal? Well.............. Bang!
Food Coma Survivor
Salted egg fried meats were so good, same with the salt and pepper chicken ribs. Space was a little crammed, and we had to wait even with a booking. Arriving earlier is better.
Mi55Bee
We had their salt pepper tofu and sweet sour pork ribs, and a vegetarian fried rice. They were delightful! Very authentic chinese flavours and service was great
Mitochondria Powerhouse
This place forms a regular weekday takeout, producing many staples of the anglo-asian cuisine in addition to some really tasty signature dishes. The peking pork ribs are always a go to for me.
Would recommend this establishment for all your semi-asian food needs.
Tagnes1986
Food is good but terrible customer service. The lady was so rude. We entered and were told this is the only table, take it or leave it. When we went to pay, she looked away and never utter a word of thank you. Worst customer service ever.
Taeyeon's Hamster
We love this place and only come here for their special signature dishes. Stuffed eggplant with prawns, prawn cakes with the day's seasonal vegetables and golden egg yolk deep fried chicken spare ribs.
Whitelily168
I ordered the sweet and sour pork spare
ribs and a few other dishes for dinner last night and found this in my bowl...disgusting 🙈 hopefully my son didn't consume any of this!
Good Restaurant Suitable for Small Group

Bamboo Chopsticks Chinese Restaurant is located in 10 Mitchell Street Doncaster. The restaurant is small and packed with tables and chairs. Somewhat noisy and cramped. You are sitting closely back to back with the person behind you. There are other Chinese restaurants located in the same court and they are also very small. Over weekends it is packed with people and the service is not as you expected. Also takeaway orders make it very busy

We were in a group of 6 people on a Saturday night fully packed. The restaurant is also very noisy. We ordered:

Soya Chicken is whole chicken poach with sugar, soy sauce, water, garlic, and ginger. If left chicken in the poaching process for too long it will be overcooked, salty, chicken is rough and tough. The soya chicken we had was tasty, silky and juicy.

Steamed live barramundi with ginger, shallots and soy. Wild barramundi generally taste muddy. The barramundi we had was sweet and fresh perfectly cooked to our liking. I learnt later that the barramundi the restaurant’s serve was farmed in tank from Melbourne which explained that it tasted clean and sweet.

Beans with minced pork - beans were crisp and went well with steamed rice.

Sweet and sour pork spare ribs – the spare ribs were very tasty and the chef used pork chops with bones which were very flavoursome and meaty.

Soooo disappointed!! I got a special fried rice & beef & black bean and they both had absolutely no flavour! Chinese food is supposed to be full of flavour. Won't be going back there again. 👎🏼
Goji
I had ordered the sweet and sour spare ribs & steamed barramundi dish. Both were of very high standard. I reckon this restaurant is so popular that all locals know this place. Need to come back more often.

Very top quality food. I come here often. Theres one lady that always seems like she would rather not be there, but my baby finally made her crack a smile. They allow you to buy the lunch specials for an extra dollar at dinnertime, but they seem annoyed when you do for some reason. Its always very busy on fridays and weekends, its much quieter during the week.
Little S
Have been getting takeaway here for years as its always too packed to eat in. Good reliable tasty Chinese fare, spicy chicken ribs and stir fry snow pea leaves being my faves.
Hello. Imnikki
It's always packed during dinner time so booking is essential. Service is typical of Asian restaurant but I personally find the aunties very endearing. The food is the star here - home-cooked style dishes made with love and care and the best part for me is the lack of oil and MSG used in their dishes. Lunch time is less chaotic and the lunch deals are pretty good at $9.80 for rich dishes. A little quirk that is much appreciated here is the complimentary grapes, instead of oranges, provided at the end of the meal.

UPDATE 10/10/2017
Much Much better .... their Cantonese fares are simple yet wholesome and delicious. Easy to enjoy.

PREVIOUS
Quick, Easy and Tasty ....

Always a good place to get some quick, easy and tasty lunch .... take away ... and dinner too.

Not the finest of presentation, but it's always satisfying and good service too.

Small venue, usually packed for dinner, especially weekends.

Thank you ....

The dishes in general are well balanced in flavours and are less oily than other restaurants seeving the same dishes. I love their beef stir fry... a meal to die for

First time but will be the LAST time eating here. Impatient, arrogant waitress (possibly the lady boss) whose facial expression seems not want to welcome patrons. I was actually smiling when talking to her ! She should be glad that we even walked-in to wanna try their food, given the many other choice restaurants / cafe around. This is not HK, so don't behave like in rude HK.
Nate
Haven't been here in years and when we have tried to drop in, its always been full. The food here is fantastic, full of flavour and just yum. I found the service to be fine. It's always busy here and they did their jobs.
Main thing is that the food is great and would return to keep trying their other dishes. Just try to book as it's popular despite all the negative reviews
S
I only had 2 dishes here and the food are good, however really bad service even for when you don't expect any from little Chinese restaurant anyways. And one day I rock up to buy some take aways at 5:30pm, they were closed ! Though the door says open at 5.....
Coffeesnob
Food is ok. Run of the mill Chinese food. Really bad customer service. It's like you should apologise to the staff for bothering them and then hand over your credit card
Daniel May
Good food, especially with the salted egg yolk on various dishes. Crampy. Can be a bit rushed sometimes. High demand so go early. Bit far out in Doncaster.
Kk
Terrible service!!!! Something wrong with their waitresses attitude.
Billbob403
Service is really bad especially the woman with the short hair. The food were terrible and the portions were very small even though the price was rather expensive. They didn't give us a receipt even though we asked for it, this meant that we could not know how much they charged the food for. The waitress with the short hair is especially rude like the devil so be careful.
never coming back again.
Allan Okeeffe
Allan. We love the food here !! It's great ! The seafood is fresh the chefs are great yum yum yum ! The waitress can be rude but once you get to know her she's great !
Kevin Ng
The worse service ever! I have never been treated this bad ever in a Chinese restaurant, terrible service, the two female wait staffs are extremely unfriendly and impolite! Would never go there again
Sarah Volpe
Worst customer service of my entire life. Was greeted with not even a smile, and practically pushed out of the resultant an hour before closing. This place is a pathetic excuse for hospitality, as a waitress myself I always put an extra effort into making my customers night enjoyable which doesn't not include slamming plates on the table and carrying on like a 5 year old. Disgusting behaviour of everyone there! Wouldn't wish this miserable excuse of the night on anyone, would never recommend and further will be voicing to others what a disappointment.
TonkleChicken
Make it so. (Nice). Going by the hungry hordes of Chinese Families that fill this place it must be fairly authentic.

It certainly has quite a few unfamiliar, but interesting choices. I am slowly making my way through them, albeit just takeaway at the moment, and so far I am very impressed.
Bbcaca_mami
Food ok, worst customer service. Just had dinner at Bamboo Chopsticks tonight. There was 5 (4 adults and 1 child) of us so we only ordered 4 main dishes. The food was good but the customer service was terrible. They have a small whiteboard near the back with specials written on it. We tried to look at it but the waitress always stand right in front of it. When they put the food on the table they just chuck it on with no smiles at all. We brought a birthday cake and when they brought it out the short hair waitress advises that the strawberries on top of the cake has fallen off and said it must of been like that when I gave it to her. So basically she is saying it's not her fault. All 3 waitress always had a sour face and I got the impression is that they don't want our business.
Susan Ooi
The staff needs some serious courtesy lesson. I left a message to book for a table of 5 pax for 5.30pm. The staff returned call to confirm. As my party was running very late due to work commitments, the staff kept pointed out that our booking was made for 5.30pm. When questioned further, she has had the table booked for another party for 6.45pm which she did not point out on the phone earlier. I am appalled by her rudeness & behavior. My husband & myself left the restaurant which was still empty at the time. She could not even attempt to rearrange the reservation. Just showing her irritation. Never in my life that I have been shooed out of a restaurant for no fault of our party.
J
Pleasant staff and a cute little restaurant for a cheap and cheerful lunch that covers a range of Asian dish fare. The vermicelli noodles were the standout dish and the milk tea was yumtastic.
Mazza
Worst service. We asked for a table for two and then they yes but you need to leave by 7pm (within 45 mins). We regretted we sat down because we paid for it the next day (way too much ginger)
Foodie
Food is nice, but the Customer service is bad! The short hair waitress asked us to give her back the table 45 mins after, even we booked the table! So shocked about what she said. Terribly ashamed especially we asked another family to join us!
Angel
User reviews. This place is alot more expensive if you want to eat in, takeaway is more worth it. i reccomemd the fried rice it tastes amazing ! as for service they are not very aware when customers have a request
Hillee
Shocking customer service. Got an urbanspoon account just to write this review. I am Chinese and am used to going to Chinese restaurants with bad customer service, but this one is another category. We felt like they were giving us looks and wanting us to leave the whole time. They overcharged us on ALL our dishes and they gave us a bad look when we pointed it out. Food average but is extremely overpriced and we left their unhappy and not full. Worst restaurant in Melbourne.
Dodge
My brother booked us in the other night and the food was great!!..we ordered eight main 9 main dishes with rice for eight people (good size / price) and we managed to polish it off with room for dessert. It was definately a drive for us to get to but well worth it. Booking is a must for this tiny place.
M Yang
Went to this place for lunch today, the lady taking order provided absolutely the most terrible service, asked me "what you want?" I placed my order then also asked for another takeaway afterwards for my child, went in the car and realised she didn't provide any cutlery, so I went back in and asked her, she said "don't u have cutlery at home?" Absolutely terrible, does not appreciate customer, felt like I owe her or something, would not recommend this place and will let all my friends know about this and will never go back again!
Melbfoodie
Solid. Chinese restaurants are not renowned for their service so take away if you don't like it! I had a fantastic 5 spice calamari and a really good Special Fried rice from Bamboo last night.. I have been going here for a couple of years and is my favourite in the Blackburn/Doncaster East area.
Peter Laskovsky
Food was average service like julie t was terrible. 8 of us went after a team meeting , the short haired waitress was scowling at us before we were even seating she was abrupt and rude and we didn't feel welcome when one of us asked for a bowl she said "what you want bowl for?!" I mean get her out and keep the food coming
Lovesfood
Quick n nice. If you are in a hurry the soy sauce chicken and stir fried lotus root( seasonal dish) is good. The seafood stuffed bean curd is a must and so is the slated egg yolk coated prawns.
Gillian Bunce
Ms. Khoo. There is a short haired, short fat, waitress in the bamboo chopsticks who has a poker face, is dismissive, impatient, rude to customers, does not even give eye contact or say thanks if you pay $400.00 for a meal. I was there with my extended family to celebrate Chinese new year. My husband got hit on the head by one waitresses who was carrying a large plastic box full of dirty dishes, no apology. Our rice was forgotten and another dish took ages. When I eventually got the attention of the waitresses, the short haired fat, faced waitresses barked at me "Yes, yes, yes it's coming" with a very stern expression on her face. I do not intend to return and waist my money on that place again, the waitresses treat you like your hassling them. There certainly was no Chinese new year atmosphere in there, more like boot camp.
Julie T
Food Nice but Service Bad. Food is very nice but a bit overpriced. Unfortunately the service there is so bad that it negated everything. The waitress with the sour face and short hair is the culprit as the other waitresses are ovely.

We ordered (& surely expected to pay for) 4 bowls of rice but we could not finish everything. So we asked for a container to take the food home. The nice waitress happily gave us a container but the sour waitress said we were not meant to take the rice home! What the? We PAID for the rice so it's ours. It's just that we couldn't eat it all whilst at the restaurant. If we ate all the rice at the restaurant, was she going to charge us more?

It is such a shame that this woman is spoiling the restaurant for us as the food is really quite nice and fresh.
Ilovefood
Yum. Usually we go to the Asian restaurant next door but they close on Wednesday so this was the second choice.
Ok so service wasn't there but the food was great! We ordered the mandarin ribs and pork eggplant clay pot.. It was devine. So if you want good food that doesn't take too long to prepare.. Get take away from here.
Soya
Rudest service I've ever experienced! Overcharged me but claim that it was the dinner rate! Never coming back again!
Pinesquirrel
Rude and dismissive service. Would recommend going next door to Asian Gourmet Hut instead for the treasure duck, yin yang Chinese broccoli or Vegemite spare ribs.
Fiona
Food ok. Service terrible unfriendly, rude, dropped broom on my partners head, rushed us out 30 mins before close.

Not recommend.
Me-want-food
Good lunch menu and I love the fried rice

Lost and Found. Started going here after our previous favourite in the area closed (owners retired very wealthy!) This is a really classic "family run" chinese with good flavours and obviously popular with local Asian community. Recommend the dim sims and the ginger fish among a very extensive menu. I have alway ordered take away and they are very efficient (10 minutes, means ten minutes!). Food is reliably good and ingredients seem to be of superior quality. Recently upgraded decor is a good try but still requires take away customers to weave through seated diners.
Tim Lee
Best tasting Chinese food in the area. Even my grandparents love it. You might be offended by the service, but don't let it get to you. Order the golden chicken ribs and mandarin pork!
Peter Lew - Iron Chef Jnr
Great cheap chinese restaraunt in Doncaster. No frills but good Asian food. Highly recommended.

Davopadrone. Fantastic food and not overly expensive. Best to book as this little gem has become too famous!

Very average. Not worth the drive unless you're in the area and feel like quick Chinese.

Renovation worth the return. Brightened up, good value menu and good service all round

Birthday's don't tend to be huge affairs for my family, except for my Grandma in which we always go and have a sumptuous meal at Red Emperor. But that will be another story in about a month's time (Yay!). It was my Aunt's birthday, so into our Prado we clambered and off we went to Bamboo Chopsticks in Doncaster. It's as much of a hole in the wall sort of restaurant that Melbourne can get, sparse and simple, yet very authentic and in a way kind of cute. It's the place that serves (according to my dad) a very typical Chinese working man type of meal. Whilst in Western cultures it's more of the steak and three vegetables, here, there's still a fair bit of meat and proteins, but a variety of solid flavours. The Chinese really do have it good with food hey? The menu is quite simple, surprisingly almost, as I'm used to Chinese restaurants with menu's 20 pages long. One A4 sheet, size 14 text (around there I'm sure) on both sides. Oh and a whiteboard of scribbled specials, all in Chinese thou
