This is a great pub, the back section with the outdoor and indoor areas are lovely expect it can get quiet noisy. The food is always fresh and updated.
We spent a lovely night with friends over a dinner and drinks. The place is so alive with a great band “Dirty Cash” and amazing food. We had pizzas and pastas, and they were all good.
The service was ok, nothing fancy but timely.
They can do better with cleanness though.
For any casual dinner with drinks and live music and dance, this is the place to be! Highly recommended.

I've been to this place for catch ups and work socials and it's one of those places that seems to be trendy but it's not really. Just isn't what it used to be. Can have the same vibe in someone's backyard... happy hour is what brings the girls in lol
Visited the Sheaf on a Wednesday night and it was packed. They have 5$ drink specials from 9pm-110’ (i think it was). We ordered the magherita pizza and queen of tarts cocktail. The pizza was delicious, packed with flavour and baked perfectly. The cocktail was alright too.
Also, they have late night pizza starting around 10pm where there pizzas are all 10$ for a whole pizza which is half the price of what we paid at around 8pm ($20)
This has been around for a long time. Came here for a drink the other day. Good vibe, good staff and happy staff to want to serve you quickly. Would come back.
Big double bay institution gets super busy but best to visit in the day when no big queues and great bistro food and beer garden as well as pool tables and fun jukebox
When you think about it, all good beer gardens are centred around a stunning shady tree! The Sheaf has been around forever and is notorious for being a meeting point for young and old; city and country! Stay around and indulge in a delicious prawn pizza or a roasted beetroot salad! A chicken or wagyu burger or a grass fed scotch fillet is also a popular choice. Can get a bit rowdy later on but isn't that part of a good night at The Sheaf?
A cool and relaxed but quite stylish place, the Sheaf is a nice place to go for Friday night drinks and food.
And the food- was my favourite part. THE best fried chicken I have ever had. It was so golden and crunchy and full of flavour. The zucchini flowers were also delicious. Stuffed with a beautiful cheese mixture and the pizza was traditional and enjoyable.
The Sheaf makes for a great night out.
Just a normal Saturday cruising when we stumbled across 'The Sheaf', I must say this find was a present surprise. Location was easy to find. The ambiance is great - easy and chilled. The team work of the staff, was a pleasure to watch. The food was outstanding, we'll definitely be back for round 2.
Super fresh and tasty food, loads of options for all diets. A generous portion of fish and chips. Steaks are a good quality and a generous portion size, cooked as requested. Staff friendly. Love the chill out beer garden and Sunday band.
The sheaf is a regular work lunch venue for us and I am always impressed by the consistently good food. The pizzas are delicious (and they use a fab gluten free base too!) The atmosphere in the beer garden is great and the staff are always friendly and helpful.
Perfectly acceptable food if a touch predictable. My rare steak was perfectly cooked, chips crispy and we loved the Brussels sprouts. Great outdoor area. Lots of gas heaters for the cooler months, it was actually toasty warm. Average wine list.
I enjoyed this place, nice ambience, lot of space on the back garden, airy and relaxed. Only one negative thing, we were sitted close to the stage and the carpet was smelling so bad the we needed to move somewhere else. Beside this, very nice place, I would enjoy to come back.
Yuuuuuum! I would rate this burger one of the best in Sydney. Sooo big and so juicy, really fresh ingredients and high quality. The meat was so tender, and the bun was a perfect size in comparison to the fillings. The chips were so crunchy, and the whole meal was a really generous serving.
We sat upstairs to eat so we had to go down to order which was a bit annoying because we were a large group. But at least they bought the food up.
After dinner we went downstairs but the music is pretty bad.
Overall, I would go back just for the burger!
I really like this pub. The back section is really fresh with a nice garden to gather with your friends and drink a few savs or ciders. Weekends get really busy so try to get there early if your having a gathering.
I enjoyed coming to this pub when I was younger because it attracts predominantly young crowd. Young girls were all dressed up in their mini skirt and 10 inches heels, guys looked all full of themselves, rude, and beefy. In fairness, the beer garden was very nice day or night and the food was good, but I was gradually put off by the madness from the crowd and haven't been back since.
Came here for dinner and had the 350gm grain fed rib eye with fat chips and watercress. The steak was cooked perfect in the medium-rare tone that I wanted. The chips were delicious. I also had the salt and pepper squid which were awesome. For dessert, I had the chocolate hazelnut brownie, which had cocoa sorbet. This was a great way to finish off the dinner. The place has a great vibe, with a nice decor and an elegant look to it. The prices are a bit steep, but then again its double bay, where you pay twice as much. I highly recommend this place to everyone.
On a beautiful (almost) Summer’s day, there’s nothing like visiting an Aussie pub after a day on the beach. After a good few hours of tanning and soaking up the Sydney sun, I am hungry. In search for a nice place to eat and chill in Double Bay, The Sheaf seemed like a good idea considering the recent revamp and re-openening of its beer garden just a few months ago in July. As you go through a dark walk through of the inside, you reach the light at the end – a beautiful outdoor courtyard with its own bar and additional indoor seating. Courtyards are one of my favourite places to be. Why? Because..beer, sun, outdoor chatters. This is why I love summer. And considering this place was styled by Alexander & Co, who takes responsibility for venues like The Morrison and The Print Room, you know it’ll be pretty AF.
There's a great atmosphere in the sheafs beer garden. Awesome after work venue, and we were surprised with how great the food was too. We've tried a few things on the menu and each has been very tasty and filling!
Huge space with an awesome outdoor courtyard next to a large U bar. Went on a Saturday night for the live band and dancing which was a lot of fun. It get's quite packed, but because of the size of the place there was never a line to get in.
Pretty good food, the pizzas are great. Fairly limited toppings in terms of generosity though, but still a good feed. Burgers looked good and the chips are salted very well. Good place for a couple of drinks with mates and chill session, awesome venue
Its the place to be if you're in the area.
Large garden bar area with lots of tables and chairs which can be an issue when there are alot of people there. Food is great too! Some of the food items I've tried and tested is the Wagyu burger comes with chips, the prawn and pork Pizza's are good and of course the mussels.
Friday and Saturday nights can get crowded so be warned, get there early to nab a table!

The Sheaf in Double Bay has unveiled its revamped Garden Bar and we attended their launch party. It's been transformed by Alexander & Co, the guys behind The Watsons Bay Beach Club and The Morrison. This is the first stage of redevelopment, with plans to revamp the upstairs area later this year.

This leafy courtyard is where the Eastern Suburbs set congregate after the Randwick races or the AFL. At sunset, the outdoor space is alive with chattering birds above the chatting crowds. Watch the fairy lights come up over a schooner of imported Sierra Nevada Pale ($8.50) or an Aussie Vale IPA ($7.20) in the lively space. And despite the affluence of the suburb Double Bay, you won’t find yourself having to double pay at the popular Sheaf Bistro . Whether you try pub classics, or the lighter Asian-inspired offerings, you’ll find the portions generous, and the prices comparable with other pubs. In terms of the classics, look no further than the ever-popular Beef Fillet ($29.50) decked out with aioli, onion jam and jus. It’s a hearty slab of beef with a surprisingly good accompaniment in the form of a crisp mushroom risotto cake. If that all sounds too heavy, the Salmon and Tuna Sashimi Salad ($22) is piled high with baby spinach, cucumber, pickled ginger and pumpkin crisps cresting a generous amount of raw fish. Handmade Pumpkin Tortellini ($18) balance the sweet orange filling with mustard fruits and a nutty beurre noisette. Love the food here! Best pub food in Sydney! It's a shame they don't still serve the share pizzas as they were pretty good, but the $13.50 burgers are amazing (and what a bargain!), the lamb salad, the salmon soba noodles, the seafood linguine - all really really good food, great atmosphere, friendly staff - this is def a favourite of ours

Love this place. Great staff, great food, great atmosphere. So much variety within the one venue. Highly recommended for a casual drink during the day, a boozey lunch or a night out. Definitely one of Sydney's best pubs

Amazing venue. Every time I come to Sydney, this is the first place I come to dine. Their eye fillet on a risotto cake is sensational and the best steak I have ever eaten. The desserts are also delicious!
I've been coming here for years and the super friendly man at the counter remembers me and my order every time. If you haven't been to the sheaf, get yourself here!! A+ service and food
Fantastic atmosphere here day or night. Through the day it has a cool courtyard - not too much sun, and really cosy scene - at night, it gets even cooler. The good is seriously well priced for even the cheaper eats which was unexpected considering the suburb..
The pumpkin tortellini (pictured), was so delicious and I ate in with the serve of tomato bread - all up - $25 very good value and I was totally full!
Good range of beers and the wines are all worthy -- going back shortly...

Consistancy. Fillet on a mushroom risotto pattie topped with caramelised onions and sour cream. Looks bad but then looks are deceiving. My favourite from a great menu from many I have ordered many meals. Never disappointed, quick kitchen to table. These guys have got it right, food, service and atmosphere. We are in Sydney just about every month, a short walk to the pub for drinks and meal is mandatory.
Always a good meal at the sheaf. Steaks are fantastic. Highly recommend

Met with some friends at the Golden Sheaf last weekend for what turned out be a 14 hour 'lunch' (read: drinking session).
The food was tasty, although the Steak and Chips could've used a side salad and the girl taking the orders could've served a smile. The lamb salad seemed to be the order of the day at our table (five people chose it) and I have to say it looked (and apprarently tasted) delish.
On a weekend this styled up pub turns into a pub/bar/club which would explain why we arrived at 1pm and left when the doors closed some time before 3am.
All in all, a great venue and a great day/night. Will visit again when I'm back in Sydney.
Best steak in the deepest darkest East.. Even without the excellent food, the atmosphere of the Sheaf is second to none. Has been my favourite since I was 17 (naughty) and even though I've roamed throughout Australia for work for the past five years I still consider it my local.
The steak finished with garlic butter and chunky chips is perfection. The pumpkin ravioli in burnt sage butter and pine nuts comes up a close second - the steak only winning because I love my meat.
Great wine list by the glass, great live music and a juke box that gets a massive workout - what all pubs should be.
Get the Steak. The rib eye on risotto is so unbelievably tasty it knocks the socks off any other pub steak in Sydney if not the whole country, may be world. Awesome scenery here too.

Best pub steak in Sydney - hands down!!! Eye fillet with crisp mushroom risotto cake, onion jam, aioli, and jus is unbeatable. Far out. No matter how many times I eat that steak at the sheaf, I always have to pinch myself. Long live the sheaf!!!!!
