I was looking for izakaya style restaurant. Finally came across this in zomato. Had the ocean on spoon. Refreshing and fresh. The lamb cutlet is the star of the day. Tender and the glaze was superb. Quite disappointed with the wagyu. I was hoping it's cooked for us rather doing our own BBQ. There are plain salt, matcha salt and chili powder. The matcha roll dessert was huge. The matcha gelato was yum. Overall very pleasant experience. Definitely come back for the lamb.
I had the jelly sake after the manager said that it is nice. That was the truth. Light alcohol but refreshing.
Great personal service, and fresh tasting sashimi. We had ordered a mix of both cooked and raw dishes and weren't disappointed. You must try the assorted nigiri. I'm so glad I've discovered this hidden gem.

Highly recommend this fusion Japanese restaurant. We also received a free dish from the chef - lobster sushi! Nice services! The sake cocktail is adorable. The ocean on the spoon is the must try! Great presentation with great taste! Grilled lamb is another recommendation!
Amazing service by George and the staff. Constantly checking up on my table for extra water. Food is excellent, especially the udon. Flavour is a mix between traditional and modern. The matcha gelato was a masterpiece of its own, could taste the real matcha flavours and very cute presentation. Love the additonal drinks given to us at the end.
The most weirdest restaurant ever. Tucked away on Lyons road it was only when the door opened i knew exactly what people where talking about in regards to a very live restaurant. Surprisingly they really do have the freshest sushi i have had and the service was excellent. Pricy agree but you won't get that quality. It's hard to find beautified dishes that also have the taste. I give these guys full punts well done.

I just enjoyed my dinner at this restaurant tonight and I had to rush home to share my opinion! I absolutely LOVED this restaurant. It is a bit hard to find, but when you do, it really is a gem. I went for a birthday dinner and we ordered about 4 or 5 dishes and shared them.

Saikyou Salmon, Tuna, Hiramasa Kingfish, Scallop, Eel, King Prawn, NZ Snapper
This dish was so good! It had really fresh and high quality ingredients and was an absolute joy to eat.

Wagyu tepan yaki and green tea noodle with tamago, scallion, and aonori
The soba noodles were cooked beautifully. The sauce was a little on the sweet side for my personal taste, but overall really nice.
-GRILLED WAGYU SALAD 100G
Yakiniku sauce marinaded wagyu with salad
This salad was really good also! It complemented the soba noodles above really well. I wished there was a little more wagyu beef rather than the small chunks, but overall the flavour was well balanced and the beef itself was really well cooked.
- SOFT SHELL CRAB IN BAO (special for the evening)
I liked that the serving was massive! One serving was enough for four of us to eat. Very generous however, I found that the dish was average and didn't really excite me that much.
-FRESH OCEAN ON SPOONS
This dish absolutely made my evening. The fish was so fresh and so high quality that it just melts in your mouth. I HIGHLY recommend this dish and I would definitely come back to this restaurant just for this dish. Not only was it visually stunning, the flavour combinations along with the high quality ingredients topped it off.
FINALLY, the manager was nice enough to give everyone a peach jelly "shot" with 3% alcohol and berries. This was complementary, which made it even better.
I absolutely enjoyed my experience at Umii and would love to come back again. Yes, the prices are relatively dearer than normal, but the food and service was great! I cannot recommend this place enough!

Umii Modern Izakaya is one of the most funkiest Japanese restaurants you will in Inner-Western Sydney. They serve a wide array of fresh seafood dishes and your usual Japanese dishes with a modern twist.
For my visit, I only opted to go with a dessert and I ordered the smashed pavlova gelato which was spot on. The plating was so elegant and the taste was very good.
The pricing is a little bit at high at this place but if you don't mind paying premium prices for high quality dishes then this is your place!
An unexpected surprise. Whilst it looked quite ordinary from the outside having the door opened for uou on entry and exit is something you do not see these days. The dishes were fantastic to look at and the taste incredibly good. The spoons are just incredible. Service was sharp. Will return.
Umii bills itself as a modern izakaya, located in Drummoyne. The food tasted fantastic but there were a few issues with the food matching what was promised on the menu. We started with the Scampi with foie gras and truffle oil. The food looked amazing when it arrived at our table but the question that popped into both our heads was: Where is the foie gras? After asking the waitress, we found out they were the little shavings on top of the scampi. Funnily enough, the table next to us ordered the same dish and asked exactly the same question. That aside, the scampi, served raw, was delicious with the sauce. If only there were a bit more foie gras, it would have made for an even more decadent dish (and perhaps justify a bit the price of the dish).
Impressive. From having the manager open the door on entry right through to him letting us out, Umii has made an impact by the quality and presentation of foods and the service. Staff are on the ball and was great to see that they knew what they were talking about. Price on the higher side of things but worth it when realise what freshness really is. A minor mistake when ordering by the waitress was brought to my attention by the manager with an apology and a genuine caring feeling. It was followed with a free sake and a free desert. This level of service was exceptional and memorable.

Tried umii this weekend and it did not disappoint. Staff on the ball despite other reviews. The manager very professional, got the ball rolling as soon as we got to the door.
Waitress was also very professional and things went very smoothly. The Jelly berry sake was very unique. The ocean spoons had an unbelievable flavour. 4 was not enough and had another 4. Finished the nigh with a smashed pavlova OMG to die for. Will be back no doubt.
Fabulous night with friends at a birthday party at umii. I commend the staff and their passion. We had aikyou salmon with Ocean Gyoza. The flavors are incredibly tantilizing. They pampered our friend for her birthday. My new fav place.
From top to bottom Umii did not dissapoint and lived up to all the expectations.
On arrival the dimmed restaurant had a warm feel to it. Staff noticeably pro active and looked synchronised.
On overwhelming smell of something delicious hits you immediately.
An Asian waiter looked after us and tested him on his skills and knowledge. Sadly for me he threw some ingredients I had not even known existed. The food was very well presented such as their pictures online. I chose the the lamb. When brought to me it was extremely good on the eyes and it tasted fabulous. My partner settled for the spider roll and a 24 piece Sashimi.
Overall this was one of the best experiences I have experienced. The manager thanked us and simply advised that if you are happy with a place get that phone out and give us a rating. Congratulations it is well deserved.
Great food and all round service highly recommended. Have dined here many times, have always had a great experience. Food taste and service always consistent.
Cannot fault Umii. We tried it last night and had av lovely time. I had three Morton bugs and they were something ive never had and they were fantastic. Staff are pleasant and helpful and as complimentary glass of wine as a welcome to a new customer is something you don't get these days.
It is good that it is local as it saves a trip to the city.
Just a great experience here. Chose Umii for wife's birthday and the staff made it special for us. The food and deserts were incredible and they catered and went beyond expectations. Thank you Umii

A surreal restaurant that's a little dimm but like a little cave. Together the outfitting is unique and warm.
The service especially by Byron was nothing short of incredible and it's rare for a manager to be so sharp with the menu and accommodating to our needs.
I found the Moreton Bay bugs amazing and filling and the sauce was to die for.
A rare item on sale last night was the Bristol. It melted nicely in your mouth.
Complimentary Sake was the cherry on the cake for the 5 star. Such a generous restaurant in social media and in premises. You got my vote and thanks.
Keeping a very low profile is Umii in Druumoyne where I had no idea it was tucked away next OceansFoods.
The rotating sushi fridge was a spectacle itself and the place seemed different to what we were used to from other Japanese restaurants.
We first tried the Toronto Nakarage which I thought was amazing. The souremi calamari was presented beautifully and it's flavour was noticeably outstanding.
Main meal was the lamb cutlets on the charcoal pot. The selection of meat was soft and very tasty and we also had the oceans on a spoon with 24 piece sashimi. The spoons simply were a taste of amazement as the flavours I have never experienced..
The service I found was excellent with a dedicated waitress checking on us several times whilst there.
I give Umii full points as in my opinion the place was honestly perfect. I am very pleased that it's local and is top quality.
Best local Japanese, couldn't asked for anything more.. Amazing food and drinks

I'm actually quite surprised by the other reviews as to what went wrong in their days. My wife and I ventured to Umii. First impression was surprise as the door was opened for us by staff on arrival. The place was buzzing at the time of arrival
The manager personally handled our table and was happy by the comprehensive knowledge of the menu. We ordered a 24 Piece Sashimi with the scallops and 8 ocean spoons which was mind blowing for taste. We are offered a complimentary Irropo Umii Sake that had berries in it. It was a sweet fantastic taste and recommend it.
The overall experience was fantastic to be honest. The vibe and music was good and notibly the staff were very efficient and regularly checked on us.
Glad to see that the experience I had was far different to the others. I cant simply agree to their scores although relate to the blog scores.
Opening it's doors earlier this year, Umii Modern Izakaya is fast becoming one of the best Japanese restaurant's in Sydney, with a menu that totally blew us away! Located in the ever trendy Drummoyne, we were very eager to give it a try. These spicy edemame were genuinely delicious with a sweet, salty, chilli sauce that was finger licking good. The perfect little pre-feast snack.
There’s a new Japanese kid on the Inner West block, occupying the space next to the long time popular Ocean Foods. A few of my friends had been and said it was pretty good, so we thought we’d give it a whirl. Obviously keen to show off the freshness of their seafood, this rotating glass fridge of what is on offer is right at the front door.
