We had: Fisherman's basket and curried scallop pie
The Doo-lishus food van is located in a picturesque location near the Blowhole, and short distance from other iconic attractions. Because of this, the carpark is absolutely teeming with activity. For us, Doo-lishus delivered reasonably well but fell a little short in some areas.
The Fisherman's Basket was great, filled with fresh seafood and chips, loaded to the brim with sinful fried goodness. The stern lady at the counter looked at me from over her spectacles as she passed on this laden paper cone. "The way I hand it to you...is the way you must carry it." And she's right. Never hold it upright, or the best bits will be lost. Arriving here near the middle of the afternoon, we were starving, and this definitely hit the spot.
The curried scallop pie was equal measure of delight and disappointment. The pastry was soggy instead of being light and more crispy. The contents were just lukewarm. That said, the creamy curry sauce and several fresh, fat scallops tasted just fine.
I wouldn't go so far as to say their reputation is "Much A-DOO About Nothing", but there is some room for improvement.
Verdict: 3.5 out of 5 stars
What a find!!!! Fantastic. Honestly some of the best, most fresh squid I have ever tasted!!! Chips were crispy, it was all just so delicious. There is a reason why this little van was constantly busy.
On our way back from Port Arthur we stopped by this food truck for lunch. We tried their curry scallop pie and the quiche of the day. I'm not a fan of meat pies in general, but they said the scallop pie was award winning so we tried it. Personally, neither my husband or I enjoyed it. It also had a very runny sauce and I found the "fish" flavor was off-putting, however, I've never had a scallop pie before so can't compare it to much. We both much preferred the quiche, although the portion was very snack size.
We had the fishermans basket and the fish n chips. They were beautiful. The baskets were FULL of chips. Would've been nice to have more fish and less chips.
The fried scallops were definitely the highlight. Good standard fish and chips and the crumbed prawns were also good. It's nice to eat local produce. The scallop pie was good and very flavourful though I don't have anything to compare it to, as it was my first ever.
Was recommended this place by family before coming to Tasmania on a holiday. We're not disappointed.
Never eaten fish that tasted so fresh! Tried their famous Curried Scallop pies, was hesitant at first, but these were beyond incredible! A definite must try when doing a road trip around Tassie.
Would now recommend to everyone and can't wait to return just for some pies!!
Diana. Was recommended to try Doo-lishus by a friendly native of the area! Believe me when I say they were the best fish & chips we have eaten in a while. They source their catch straight from the local boats in the bay & the friendly ladies cook it to perfection on the spot & serve them in a cute cardboard cone. They were so welcome after the arduous hike we did on the peninsular earlier in the day
Fisherman Cone. The batter is crispy with delicious fresh seafood! Totally recommended if you go to Tasman National Park!
Lining up to pay for lunch, and still deciding what to have, the lady before me just got her lunch and took a bite, sounded like she went to heaven, so I asked for whatever she’s having - a simple fish wrap, oh boi that fish was delicious! Too bad I live just about 2500 km away 😂
Absolutely fantastic, just have left here. Purchased fisherman’s cone and everything was perfectly cooked and yummy. Had a hot chocolate as well and was very tasty. Fantastic business, definitely coming to back 😄
Visited yesterday beautiful sunny spot ,food great quality, Fresh and leaves you wanting more. The ice cream is Yummo , staff very friendly and happy intheir job, sometimes a bit of a wait but that is becos the place is Fanbloodytastic , I chatted to owners about sometimes yellow chips. It is the potatoes NOT the oil as folk keep blethering on about. If
youre not happy tell them , Great little van congratulstions👍👍🐠🐠😀😀
Friendly service, the girls working today were very happy to answer all our questions re:food. Ordered a fish burger and 2 cones of fish and chips. These were cooked fresh and just right. Chips were the best on the peninsula. We also ordered milkshakes and these were awesome. Worth the ride in off the highway. Awesome view while sitting eating your chips.
Excellent place to have a remarkable lunch
S43°2.073' E147°56.881' At the Blowhole parking lot in Doo Town, this caravan is well known for fresh berry smoothies, fish and chips and curried-scallop, rabbit or venison pies. In February of 2020, we followed the advice of the author of Lonely Planet to order the best curried-scallop pie in Tasmania. Not coming from a pie-country, we needed cutlery to eat the pie. It was our first and it tasted good. Excellent place to have a remarkable lunch. Recommended.
Nice deep fried seafood and chip! All foods are crispy and tender. Love their ice cream too, simple ice cream with balance.
So fresh and so tasty. We drove from Hobart only to try out eating here and it was well worth the long drive and time. Highly recommend the fisherman’s basket which has little bits of everything!
