Review Hubbles Yard Cafe - East Fremantle

Lovely little cafe in a quiet street. Coffee was more than acceptable. Cookie was amazing

Hubbles Yard is awesome - except for the lady in the glasses who takes your order at the service counter. Even behind a mask, she isn't smiling and her manners border on rude. The first time round we put it down to a bad day - you never know what people are going through, so fair enough. The second time was just rude. While I was deciding on what type of Danish to have, she glared at me, making me feel as though I was wasting her time. When the order was ready, she came over to my husband and plopped it on the table in front of him and walked off. Not a smile or a kind word. So yeah, good food and coffee, but who needs service like that? I'd go back if it weren't for her.

Amazing service and local friendly staff. Family business and service with a smile. Definitely coming back here for a brunch and coffee!

This cafe closes at 12, asked for a menu at just past 11am and was very rudely told that the kitchen is closed by a female staff member with short hair and glasses. Both me and my mum were made to feel stupid and unwelcome for even asking for a menu. The cafe should state that their kitchen closes at 11am, not 12. I will not be returning based on this interaction.

Lovely local Cafe. Well priced, home style cooking. Tasty and healthy lunches. Good variety of cakes, muffins and slices. Great coffee. Relaxed indoor/outdoor feel in a quiet setting. Nothing fancy but reasonable price for a mid-week treat or catch up. Friendly and attentive service.

Went for breakfast with my husband My meal was lovely, my husband did not enjoy his. Our coffee was excellent. The lady who looked to be owner was indifferent to us although quite friendly to locals. When I tried to compliment her in the coffee she just ignored me. Found her rude. Compliments to the coffee maker, would give him 5 stars.

In times like these you would think owners/staff would be thankful when people go out and try to support them. The woman (I assume owner) is RUDE, UNFRIENDLY and IN THE WRONG JOB!. Never going back.. So many great places around fremantle, and the food isnt anything special at hubbles anyway.
Adam Scott
A comfortable setting with friendly staff and fast service. The coffee is divine and there are plenty of food to go options available.

Popped in for post Anzac service brekky. Wow great coffee & the brekky wrap was beautiful. Fresh simple ingredients done well. Great service. We will be back

Great food and excellent service. One of my favourite places for breakfast in the Freo area

Dined there today with my mother in law and my kids. The food was delicious, and my normally fussy children loved the chicken nuggets. Will definitely be back!

Beautiful food as always. Love the fritters! Lovely staff and outlook.

Fantastic food will definitely be back again

WOW! Why didn’t I know this places existed before! Great service quick and efficient, food was on point, will be back for another yard plate.

Decided to pop by this cafe and it was a great choice made. Ordered a salmon bruschetta and the hubble’s club sandwich. The salmon was fresh and of good quality. And the club sandwich, even though the bacon was a little chewy and could have been cooked more, it was generally good.
Loved my mocha. Will visit it again.

Me and my BF’s day off, riding our bikes looking for coffee, saw this cute looking cafe, I had to stop.
Fantastic coffee, good prices, food presented well, friendly, helpful stuff, good vibes there, my first time here, definitely coming back.
One of our favourite coffee spots in the George Street precinct - having not sampled the brunch menu - it didn't disappoint. The breakfast bruschetta was full of flavour, fresh and tasty. My partner sampled the home baked beans also hit the spot. Well priced, and efficient friendly service!

Charming and rustic cafe with gorgeous decor. Varied and inspired menu and food was fresh and delicious. Service super friendly and very helpful waitstaff..Can't wait to go back!

I love the relaxed vibe in East Fremantle, and this café just oozes it. We popped in for a brunch on a Saturday morning. The service was fast and friendly. M had the omelette, with spinach and Kale, potato's cheese and polenta chips. This dish was freakishly good, the chips were too good to look at and tasted even better. (If that makes sense to anyone but me). Wished I ordered that.. Anyway he did allow me a bite or two.. I enjoyed the ham and cheese croissant and it was fresh, buttery and crunchy all in one, I did however think the cheese was a little bland. The coffee was also good. We are returning here for sure, and we would recommend it too.

I love this little cafe. The family ran business has a great menu and the quality of the food is always wonderful. BUT the coffee is the best on George St. Definately worth a visit.

Beautiful Mother's Day breakfast, A1 Food, very friendly service with a very nice wave goodbye, great decore, love the chairs, exceptional coffee, top place, will certainly return for more, well done ! ⚓️🥇

Arghh this place was soo nice. Came here for Sunday morning breakfast. We found a cute spot outside. Service was absolutely lovely. There was a good range of food on the menu. I was able to order my side dishes without an issue or the need to pay for toast. Fresh orange juice was amazing. Servings were large. What a great little cafe.

I've been here a couple of times and love the relaxed vibe.

I think it may have been an old house back in the day so the wood floors, hallway and rambling feel adds to the character of the place.

Coffee is good and the service fine.

I'll be back.
Renato
We went to Hubbles Yard for breakfast a while back and were underwhelmed. The service was average and was matched by the food. They forgot a side order too... which wouldn't have been so bad if the rest of the food was better.
Perfcritic
New owners are what was needed! The food is fantastic and affordable! When I was snooping found out it's a family who have taken over and now run the place and it works well, the menu is fantastic and service even better. Will definitely be going again

Used to be brilliant, always a fave place. Then was sold a few years ago and has never been the same.
Took a business colleague there for a meeting and was actually embarrassed, it was so bad.
To be honest that was about 18 months ago - don't know if it has improved. I haven't been back since

Well done Hubble yard cafe. Went there for a coffee n cake with my wife n my two kids for a mother day , we are very much enjoyed it, the girls at counter are quite polite n nice smile! Well done Hubble yard we will be back.

Terrible. Walked in after wanting to try this cafe for sometime.... What a disaster. Had a bad feeling when this was the least busy cafe on the strip on Mother's Day.
We tried anyway, ordered two coffees and wanted some take away sweets for a family morning tea.. Ordered four muffins and a chocolate eclair. Finally got our order after a little wait, we walked out in a rush without checking and didn't realise we were missing two muffins until we got to our morning tea... We cut up the eclair and I made the mistake of putting a whole small piece in my mouth... It tasted like a damp tea towel. The cream was completely off and upon closer inspection, I would say that eclair was about 3-4 days old at best.
The coffees were watery and trust me I'm no coffee guru. Never going back.

Downhill slide. Went in for my old favourite Go Italian breakfast. Can feel the change in management. Serving size was laughably meagre. A paper thin slice of ciabatta. Coffee was burnt. So disappointing.

Appaling. I went with my wife for lunch today and I had what I can only describe as the worst café experience I have had since moving to Perth 7 years ago. We ordered food and tea, the tea came after around 45 minutes, when my wife poured our teas it was a cloudy milky sort of colour, not a clear black tea colour. I asked for another pot of tea and two fresh cups, the tea was replaced but I had to ask again for clean cups. The food arrived after an hour and fifteen minutes, part of our order was given to another table and I had to ask again for the food item. my wife's food arrived before mine and she had 'normal' cutlery when my food arrived I was given a plastic knife and fork. the three tables pushed together next to us sat with a huge pile of dirty plates cups etc for at least an hour before some people sat at the table and asked for the plates to be cleared away which was done over about a 20 minute period and the spilt water all over the table wasn't even wiped up. The water served up in the café was tap warm and I had to ask twice for glasses which eventually did arrive and they were hot straight form the dishwasher and the food was average at best. Needless to say we will return to George street but we will not darken the door of this establishment again, they let George street down by their presence.

I love the George Street strip, we stumbled across Hubble Yard, but left very disappointed, the coffee was bitter and unpleasant, a long Mac topped up had about an inch of foam, I couldn't even finish it. The choose your own juices is a good idea but I won't be returning for a coffee.

Bloody Awful. Microwaved eggs and oil soaked hashbrowns. Hungry Jacks buns. I would have got a better feed at my local Vietnamese deli

Hubble 's Yard Cafe Toilets not clean, poor cooking and Worth a Look for Coffee only. Looks like new management ...went three times for breakfast and will not go back because:
..toilets not cleaned for several days ...basic breakfast items not or poorly cooked, coffee OK

The owners and staff greet you properly;
The coffee is organic and served at the right temperature;
The breakfast eggs were fine but could do with a touch of say chives ...?
The mushrooms sadly dry ...pity

I went back to give them a chance to rival the big boys and girls in George Street ...small additions like chives or English spinach leaves add to the basic breakfast items ..well done and good luck to the newcomers in charge BUT basic hygiene and poor cooking and presentation will never get there ...re-think?
Sarah
Not that fab. Decided to check out the place my self and have breakfast the cheese n ham croissant was average and I ordered a banana smoothie which tastes like a milkshake with banana flavouring not that impressed.
Chris_pike
Great Muffins Great Scrambled Eggs. So fresh always
JellyBean
The food was inedible, the restaurant was filthy and had an awful smell, and the service was terrible. How a restaurant of such low standard and quality can stay open on a great strip like George Street is beyond me. Disgusting.
Kelly Patrick
Bad coffee. As above

Amy. Nice coffee and great idea with egg Atlantic serving with croissant.
Will be back for sure

How absolutely dissappointing. I thought something was different when I saw there was scratchy horrible writing on the windows, the inside lacked any of the old warmth and the ratty old carpet chairs in the back room need to be thrown out. I had to repeat my question three times as the girl serving me appeared to have trouble understanding English. Even when the other lady helped they still left off my sons drink and my other sons biscuit. My mums hot chocolate (takeaway) had three mouthfuls before it was finished. My slice was stale. Why would you buy a thriving business and let it deteriorate so badly, even if you followed the basics of the old business model you would have had a good business but they haven't. I am so dissappointed. I won't be going back!!!

Wow. This place needs attention or to be closed down!!! Quite sad thebold owners should buy it back I would be the first to welcome them back I miss my local Cafe!!!!

A bit pricey, but the service and food are definitely up there!. I was directed to Hubbles Yard by my search for an internet café on Google Maps. While not an internet café, the staff were happy to let me use the internet for downloading etc.

Overall the place is a little bit pricey, but they offer good coffee and the food was great. They also cater well for vegetarians which is a huge plus point in my books!

Breakfast with the family, great food and excellent coffee. Friendly staff and a pleasant atmosphere highly recommend

This cafe WAS amazing when it was run by the previous owners. It has since been purchased by new people and has become absolutely awful. The muffins used to be the best, fresh everyday, different flavor everyday and just fabulous. The muffins have gone dramatically downhill and the last straw was the muffin and coffee purchased last weekend...the muffin was actually inedible to the point where I was almost sick from the one bite I had. The coffee is nowhere near as good either. So sad.

Absolutely shocking! I loved this little Cafe when I worked in the area a few years ago but I'll never come here again! Service was terrible, waited for over 30 mins for breakfast and all these people who were served after us got their food first. Brought all our meals out at different times and got our order wrong. Bircher tasted oddly like fruit mince pies??? Pancakes hard as bricks. Then took my 3 year old to the toilet and was dry retching at the smell. They were dirtier than public toilets. Don't go here, this type of establishment in Perth should not exist.
Lady Ham
Some of the worst food I have had in a while! I ordered Bircher museli. It tasted like it was turning sour and had a very strong citrus peel flavour. It is nothing like it used to be. Don't be fooled.

We were excited to find a cafe open on New Years Day. The signs outside advertised All Day Breakfast - even better!! It was 11am in the morning. The menu looked promising. We waited at the counter for 20mins in full view of staff without being served while they only asked for drink orders as we see delicious plates of food getting whisked out to other customers. Finally we get some service and go to order and they tell us the kitchen is closed. WTF? Not impressed!!
Caro
Great breakfast, nice strong coffee, friendly service and good value

Let down. I went to Hubbles Yard last Thursday for Lunch and left with a smile on my face and my belly happy. The food looked and tasted delicious and the juice was fresh. Sadly when I took group of friends there on Saturday I had one of the worst dining experiences ever! Shocking service, I had to ask about my meal twice and all I got from the guy was a curt it's coming. The coffee was good but completely cold by the time my food got there, and the food was a serious disappointment. Won't be back again.

Expectations pleasantly met. Hubble is a small style cafe which responded well to my expectations; ordering and paying is at the counter; time is needed for the order to be prepared; the staff numbers are adequate, but not numerous. The atmosphere is pleasant; good music, not too loud.

The coffee ... I let the barrister know how I liked it and it was made that way.

The food was tasty and sufficient to feel I had good value for my money. I enjoyed the lamb burger enough to have it again the next time I visited. The Coq Au Vent was hot and flavorsome; the green salad was just the right accompaniment.

The service was unobtrusive and efficient; keeping from intruding, but approaching often enough to supply what I wanted. A smile with them gave a smile back to me. Lisa and her fellow staff kept the tables clean and clear with regular checks for dishes and the departed.

I haven't been to The Hubble for a number of years, having moved out of the area, but now will make it my place of preference on my way to Freo or Cott.

Never Go Back. First timers today and we will never go back. We live in fremantle and thought we would try something different in East Freo. The staff were ok, not so friendly, no EFTPOS, whats with that? We are business owners ourselves and understand there are fees involved, but seriously build it into your costs. Menu for breakfast was average unless you wanted a major carb load. Get with the times guys, or move on.
Adamparksy
Dissapointed. I never would be one to complain, but out of 3 experiences... I have had less than exceptable service. I am a local business owner who has recently moved into the area, bringing with me a great client base who are regularly looking for a coffee or healthy feed.
Ive been trying out a few places in East Freo to recommend... Unfortunately I would not recommmend my clients to experience the same service as I recieved.

Less than friendly staff who couldnt even smile or make a conversation to welcome you to their cafe with a little warmth. Then charged a ridiculous $18 for 2x triple Expresso... Never have I had to pay anything near this before in my life. With people ready to order straight after me, I chose to not question anything and pay.

Looking over other reviews it seems like "friendly" service definately lacks... In such a competitive coffee strip... service is everything. Sorry Hubbles Yard but 3 strikes and your out.

I hope you can improve your service for future customers.

Terrible coffee Oily omele.... Terrible coffee
Oily omelette, ciabatta toast was not fresh
Bircher muesli was ok

Came in for a sunday breakfast, ordered the big brekkie and eggs benedict, service was prompt, food came out soon after, good atmosphere however food was slightly lacking in flavour. Presented well but stock standard brekkie of which Dome cafe can offer. Probably wouldn't eat breakfast here again but maybe a coffee and muffin to enjoy the atmosphere vibe next time
Delamere
Good brekkie, nice ambience. Monday morning brekkie of eggs florentine, partner had bircher muesli, both excellent. good coffee, but they use full cream milk as default. Nice ambience, not too noisy - they have put sound baffles in the ceiling. Why don't all cafes do something like that so you don't have to shout at your partner/friends?
Service not especially fast, but pleasant and accurate.
Chantal
Disapointing. Over cooked our one poached egg on the italian breakfast, very disappointing meal for $15.50... Also, cash only which is rather behind the times.

Wonderful ambience, friendly staff and delicious food. Will be adding this to the list of cages to return too
Alex
Love it. Beautiful coffee, lovely food and great value for money.
Claire
I came here for breakfast with my friend. The coffe was very well made, as was the food. The atmosphere was great, and very spacious too. We felt as though we had our own space rather than hearing the conversation of those around us too.
It is good of them to provide an ATM inside as there is no other ATM nearby. They only accept cash.
Service could be a bit more friendly.
However overall, we both enjoyed our experience at Hubbles Yard :)

Why oh why do cafes close so early?. Wouldn't it be nice to sit in a cafe after 3:30pm? Unfortunately this is rarely the case in Perth. I enjoyed my coffee and cake at Hubbles but felt a bit pressed for time as I arrived at 2:40 and they were stacking chairs at 3pm. The free WiFi is a plus, and the coffee was fine. Not outstanding, but fine. The prices are also very reasonable, especially compared to George Street Bistro up the road. A nice place to hang out... before 3:30.
Rachel
Lovely spot. Enjoyed morning tea here with friends and throughly enjoyed it. Great cakes and coffee in a relaxed enviroment. Will be back

Not the same. I used to come often before it was sold. Now the coffee isnt as good and I miss the amazing food

Quieter Times. I've visited this cafe several times now and found that if you have time the breakfast in the middle of the week is better. It's quieter and the food doesn't take as long. You'd think most cafes would have better service in quieter periods but not always so. I'm not a fan of rush hour and working in a cafe it's something I try to avoid when I go out.

The coffee we had recently was good. The food is all home produced and delicious. The home made chutney's are delightful - remind me of my grandmothers.

I've seen this place packed to the max and overflowing. They manage quite well with the limited staff and small coffee machines. But I would still recommend taking some chill time in the morning to eat and soak up some ambience.

If your looking for irresistible jam, muffins, chipolatas and bread well this is the place for you and those muffins I was talking about the tops are really crunchy!!!!!!!!!!!!! ( - :

Excellent brekkie. I've had brekkie there twice now and both times it's been excellent. The service is good and the food is superb. They have home made preserves, which are delicious. The stack of pancakes served with blueberries and mascarpone are sensational. The Go-Italian brekkie is also really good. Love the lemongrass and ginger tea. The meals are well priced.
FatCat
Average. Great location, average food, acceptable coffee, chaotic service.
Janine Pittaway
I'm a local so a regular by default, meaning I go only because of convenience. I go maybe 3-4 times a week for a coffee, so you'd think there would be done recognition by staff, and a customer loyalty program would be welcomed. Last straw was today tho when I asked for the soup to take away, and was still charred $9.50 and the soup was served in a takeaway coffee cup. I did get bread, but no butter. Probably would have cost another couple of bucks. Sorry Hubbles, I'm traveling further afield from now on.
Grublet
Old staff come back!. Used to love visiting this place, but they have recently had a huge turn over of staff and it has lost the friendly, homey vibe it once had. apparently they changed owners? still have ok coffee but the prices are steep and with so many cafes popping up around the area i could think of at least 3 other cafes i would go to before hubbles. sorry guys, im over it :/

Always remember my name and coffee order, lovely service, good coffee, bitcher muesli rocks.

Not flash. Went there for breakfast on Sunday and wasn't impressed with anything except the coffee. My partner had 3 poached eggs on toast (2 poached eggs on toast is $10) and 2 rashers of bacon and it cost $23 -more than the big breakfast. We didn't realise until it was too late to question it and as they only take cash and don't give receipts we wonder if this is a common occurrence. Even worse - the yolks of his poached eggs were hard and they weren't hot. Won't be going again.

Thank you. A great lunch and friendly service in a nice atmosphere. Went to the Blue Duck to try and get lunch before hand and were appauled by the poor service and attitude so came here at a locals recomendation and were totally staisfied.
EL-1978
Change of owners and heart. Previously have raved about our little local, HY - and I mean local as we live on the street! Until the new owners came along and all credit promised nothing would change, which it didn't until the previous owners had handover and the newbies settled in. Now my humble bircher has jumped from $9.50 to $11, a juice is pushing $7 and lunches are now $17 instead of the usual $12!!!!
Not to mention cutting their opening hours in peak season, often closing before 4pm
Outragous and right way to loose the local support.
Dips
Love it!

Hubbles Yard will never return. Have just returned from an extremely disturbing coffee experience at this establishment. Ordered a flat white and had a cappuccino delivered to my table. When I said I had not ordered a cappuccino but a flat white, I was told by the the diva like waiter that " No you ordered a cappuccino" (I am not feeble minded, did he think I was?). About 5 minutes later coffees for my two companions arrived - the one masquerading as a cappuccino was in fact a latte (yes they had the order wrong again)... when queried about this the waiter condescendingly suggested that he could sprinkle some chocolate on it. Ah yes, both these coffees were also tepid.
Time ticked on (now 40 minutes since I ordered my coffee and still nothing) Foolishly (and impertinently) I made the grave error of asking the barista if my coffee would arrive soon. I thank God he wasn't armed because all hell broke loose ... this madman screamed at me (and I do not exaggerate ... he screamed) to sit down and wait my turn because he had a lot of orders to fill. When I politely asked if I could see the manager, he once again screamed at me to " just sit down". Now I am a gentle Buddhist like soul, and do not like confrontation, but I would have to say a bit of Karma is due this place (which I believe has new owners). Seriously, seriously the staff need a spanking. And the coffee was very very average (and cold) ... if you are after a good one, skip East Fremantle and head on down to Vespas in South Fremantle.
Food_Lover_In_Hospitality
Not big on it! It's nice a bit squeezy but the main problem is the fact tht u have to use an ATM to get money and u get charged a $2 fee! Can't believe they are too lazy to have and eftpos machine! Nice selection of cakes and coffee was consistent just could be a tad hotter. Overall ok
CoffeeBitch
Cash only??. Great food but even fast food joints let you pay with plastic!
Yes they have an auto teller but why should i pay an extra fee!
Alex Champman
Great food. We had breakfast at hubbles yard the other day. we ordered a few things as we couldnt choose what to have (and we are pigs) one dish was the tomato and avocado salsa on abhis bread, poached eggs on toast and pancakes. The salsa was great, the poach eggs were cooked perfectly and the pancakes were fantastic more like a hot cake than a pancake. Coffee was a bit of a let down and the service was very very average with the waiter telling us infuture we should only order one dish each (as we left some stuff on our plate ) mind you we only left a small amount - wasnt impressed
Suna
Great little place. Food is great coffee even better, ambiance eclectic and it is obviously run by the owners. We love this little cafe and going there signifies the start of a great weekend.

Absulutely lovely ... BUT DO TRY THE APPLE AND GINGER JUCE!!

Relaxed late lunch. Great space, and perfect spot to catch up with a friend. good food and coffee.
Kitty
Gold mine. What a busy little place this is! Went for breakfast and it was packed but luckily didn't have to queue for too long as the sharp eyed waitress spotted a table for us. Breakfast was delcious with all the usual choices. Nothing jumps out of the menu however but still, was a good serve of food and tasty. I loved the decor of the place and the location as you can wander through the boutique shops after breakfast. Coffee was also very good.
DiningPerth
Breakfast. Nice building and good food. Came here for breakfast. Only fault is that had to queue for ages and then couldn't find a table. Gets extremely busy.
BigE
Best breakfast in Perth. Excellant coffee, a big brekkie that is not greasy, eggs Benedict the way it is supposed to be and all in a relaxed friendly atmosphere. It's our favourute way to start the weekend.

Good food, good ambience, & friendly staff. Ok coffee.

It’s entirely possible that Hubbles Yard is responsible for our choice of buying a house in East Freo (ours in April!). A sunnier slice of Seattle? We’ll take it!

At the corner of Hubble and George in historic East Fremantle, is a wonderful and bustling local secret. Befitting its near coastal location, this lovely cafe manages to feel like the beach. It glows with warmth, youth and goodness. The tables are nicely

If memory serves me right, Hubbles Yard had a small but enticing menu. I ordered field mushroom which came with goats' cheese feta, pesto, lettuce & a delicious chutney ($14.50). Renee decided upon the breakfast bruschetta with poached eggs and the chutne
