Review Eastwood Garden Peking Restaurant - Eastwood

We ordered 3 dishes yesterday. All arrived in reasonably quick succession. Waiter/waitress are polite & responsive. Food are good quality with a very competitive price. The boss was very helpful & eager to offer his service. We usually dine there once every 1-2 weeks. Unlike some eateries in Eastwood, it has its own washroom. It never disappoints us.

The true authentic cantonese style restaurant in eastwood. best dishes with reasonable price

Big bang for buck, quick service and decent taste.

Good food at good prices, friendly staff!

We used to eat here frequently pre-Covid and just recently went back. The food is still as good, service excellent. Dishes are priced so reasonably, in fact we were surprised that they hadn't put up the prices. What we love about the food is that it is not overly salty like in a lot of other restaurants. Certainly our go-to for Cantonese dishes.

Peking duck was good, the price was reasonable at around $50 with a second course of either noodles or San choy bow. The service and cleanliness could be better and then I would be happy to give 5 stars, something for the staff to work towards.

Good Chinese value meal for my family of three. Ordered three set of meal with free drinks at the cost of $10.80 each. It’s nice to come across places that still has delicious 😋 food at a reasonable price.

I got shocked when they charge me extra money when I asked more cucumber for whole Peking duck set. They literally give people 12 tiny cucumber sticks for a whole duck set, and my fried rice and steam fish was forgotten by them.

Don't waste money here. We tried this restaurant because there's a bit of a wait at other restaurants. The food is crap compare to all other Chinese restaurants. No wonder they are not busy and there's no wait. I dine in Eastwood every week and this is the worst restaurant I have eaten at. Many nicer restaurants to go to if you want to eat good food in Eastwood.

Also...VERY rude customer service!! Waiter made us remove everything off the table and they removed to table cloth. When we questioned them they said we didn't order enough food. Petty over a table cloth...serious?? Haven't seen any restaurant like this, not even in the third world country.

It was our first time visit in a weekday afternoon, we ordered the bitter melon stir fried with beef rice and shredded chicken soup noodle. Both meal comes with a drink and we had milk tea. The milk tea was quite smooth. It was very close to the Hong Kong style. The only improvement could be having a stronger tea base. Anyway we were very happy for the milk tea. For the rice it was okay, cooked freshly and well seasoned. For the soup noodle the soup base was very nice. Not just using msg to make it. Staffs were nice. I asked the dinner menu to have a look and found the prices were quite reasonable. May come to try the dinner dish one day.

Extremely poor service. Our entrees came last. Our main courses came first. The manager did not take any responsibility in this case and told us Chinese cuisine does not different between entrees and mains!

The menu states differently. As everyone I know eats Peking duck first before their main courses with rice.

Don’t go here unless you want poor service and to eat your meal backwards.

It was busy on a weekend night which was a good sign, and they did not disappoint. Annoying thing is it's cash only. 😑

The vegan dumplings were presented nicely and very tasty also! Craving them again! We also got a veg hot pot which was scrumptious!!!! And another mushroom dish which too was lovely, but not as good as the others. Overall, everything was great and worth getting again.

There are so many Asian restaurants in Eastwood, it often gets difficult to see through them all and find the good ones. Eastwood Peking Seafood would be one of the good ones on this side.

Chinese food done right. Nothing exceptional but always consistent. Great idea for a dinner with family so you can order a banquet and try a range of dishes. Can get busy so book ahead.

Excellent selection of Chinese dishes.

Dish if night is Peking Duck of course.

Shan Dong chicken was 2nd, very flavorsome.

Wasabi Beef Chunks 😀

30/7 had the scollop in XO source with vermicelli . Yummy

One of my local restaurant for Chinese food.

I like their set menu which I don't have to think what to eat. Usually I go set A

Staffs are friendly

Average food, horrible rude staff and only HIGH prices and 2% extra surcharge even on debit card. The prawns wasnt deveined(in the pic) and upon informing them,1st staff in a rude tone was like the supplier supplys it this way,i dont know. We spoke to the 2nd staff who seemed like a manager and he goes in a very rude tone too -why are you telling me again when you already told the other staff, tell the manager if you want. Food was average not worth it all.

If you fancy getting treated badly by the arrogant wait
staff and paying for it, please give this place your custom.

We went there for lunch with a couple of restless kids, and were
physically bumped by servers, to let us know that we were not welcome there.
One was a young Chinese girl with long straight hair pulled up into a pony tail
and the other was an older Chinese man in his 50’s-60’s.

He hit me on the way to set up an empty table with paper
napkins, plates and bowls, as I picked up my child to leave, and he turned
around to see my reaction. This was definitely done out of spite, as it was
purposefully executed, the restaurant was HALF EMPTY and there would be plenty
of choices to place future customers. There was no need for haste, such that I
would end up elbowed.

Instead of respecting the existing paying diner in front of
him, he would rather express his self-importance by conveying how busy he was.
By pushing me, he was saying “get out of my way”, but took it into the physical
realm which is even worse.

He even said “Hurry Leave” in Cantonese. I don’t know
whether he knows that I understood him or not, but that is extremely bad behaviour.

The food is fine, but I would not go there again. It’s not
cheap and instead of getting a nice dining experience, you pay for horrendous
treatment from horrid people. I think this must be “normal” practice here, as
more than one server exhibited this behaviour.

They must think they are better people, and born of royal
blood perhaps. The work culture and behavioural “norms” exhibited at Peking
Seafood Restaurant in Eastwood creates a toxic environment for paying diners,
which you would be well advised to avoid.

My go-to place for delicious Chinese food. Me and the family have been coming here for years for their seafood dishes and other stir fry tastes that you can't get from the other Chinese restaurants around the area. I particularly enjoy their Vermicelli Crab and their Wasabi Beef.

They also have a really cheap deal past 2pm as well, which is great if you're having a late lunch. The seafood of course is a tad expensive but then again what seafood isn't? Definitely worth coming for a meal in my opinion, especially if you're feeling like Chinese food that's not Shanghai-style.

I came here with three other friends around midday for a meal and yes, the restaurant was busy but without lines queueing out the door. Despite this, the service was absolutely appalling with a waiter who was visibly impatient and started rolling his eyes and tapping his pen on his paper pad while my friend was telling him the order. To add to this, the quality food was lacking with hot and sour soup that had way too much pepper and the balance for the majority of the dishes was completely off. It was difficult to gain the attention of any staff members to inform them that they had forgotten one of our dishes of which they finally corrected but topped the quality service by dumping it on our table. To add to the experience, a lady rushed by with a trolley with used dishes and cutlery and rams it into my friend's chair, shouts impolitely and runs off once again as if this routinely happens. The food was the equivalent of very poor food court quality food and the service was well below par. One positive would be that the price was cheap for the set menu which is probably the reason this restaurant stays alive. Maybe every single one of their decent staff was on leave on this date (given there are decent reviews above mine) but based on my experience, they are never getting mine nor my friend's service again.

One of our go to places in Eastwood when we want dumplings and hot and sour soup. Food tastes good, portions are generous and it's cheap. They do afternoon tea specials from i think 2pm where from a smaller selection of their menu, the food is $7.80 and you get a drink with it for a little bit extra. The portions for this are quite big too, so a very good option for a late lunch.

The Eastwood Peking has been around for many years. Located at a corner of Rowe Street, near the famously busy crossing to the pedestrian mall, it has a narrow frontage, a deep inside and a narrow place for customers to queue up, but under cover. On a recent visit, I find the staff are well trained, well costumed and with smiling faces for guests. We commenced at 6pm for our table meal but there was the expected queue by 7pm. The street outside can be busy with people and vehicles but one does not sense it. It is worth reserving a table here instead of just walking in, especially at the usual meal times on busy nights. Two years ago, this restaurant went so called green in the selection of electrical generation choices. It also renovated by converting to LED lighting.

Came for lunch on weekend. They have set menus for $8 for 1 or $20 for two which is great value. Menu includes choices of soup, rice or noodle dish and dim sum/dumpling. Food was decent for the price but definitely MSG used. Service was quick too. Unrelated to the restaurant - parking in Eastwood is a nightmare!

Peking is one of my family's favourite local Chinese restaurants. Food is usually pretty quick to get to the table after ordering, the food always tastes good and the price is very decent. Also another plus, this restaurant is open 365 days of the year. We've come here one Christmas when there were no family plans on Christmas Day, we've also come for a few Chinese New Year reunion dinners over the past few years. If you plan ahead and know what to order it can be a really good meal and experience.

Some family favourite dishes include the Peking Duck, Shandong Chicken, E-fu Noodles (amazing texture), Salt and Pepper Prawns, Deep Fried Pork Spare Ribs with Spicy Salt and Peking Pork Spare Ribs.

I loved the service here. Very attentive and good manners.

Ordered the peking duck which was good, sizzling steak and fried dumplings.

I would definitely come back here again.

Peking duck here is pretty good although nothing puts it above other chinese restos that serve the same thing imo. Not a fan of the hygiene of this place, once saw the ducks in boxxes on the ground...

I am giving this restaurant 1 star.

I was here somewhat a long time ago and haven't come back.

Why the low rating?

1) Not an Authentic Beijing/Peking restaurant no matter how you look at it. More like a quick takeaway joint of many types of food.

2) Rude rude rude rude rude service.

I was trying to pay for my table and the guy behind the counter (head chef or owner?) sarcastically scolded at me "which one? Can you be specific!!!!" snatched my money and frowned at me like he was trying to start a fight.

Came here for the afternoon tea special with a friend and I ordered a Shandong chicken with ramen noodles. Udon noodles came instead. The portion of noodle was huge with reasonable amount of chicken that weren't that fresh.

While we were eating a waiter discreetly spray some insecticide to the edge of the wall and ceiling. It worked. About 15 min later a little cockroach fell on to our table, luckily not on our food (see pic). It's one thing to know cockroaches exist in most restaurants, it's another to see one dying on your table while you were eating.

Close to 5pm, the waiters and waitresses kept coming to take away our plates, and we had to stop a waitress from taking a plate that still had food that we were eating. They also brought our bill to the table without us asking for it. The place was not full and there weren't people waiting for a table. So not sure why they were eager to kick us out.

Not likely to come back.

Amazing food at reasonable price, that is how a Chinese restaurant should be. The restaurant wasn't big and in a narrow shape. As expected the service could be abrupt sometimes but what's lacking was made up by the good food. We ordered barramundi once and it was live from the fish tank. They showed it to us in a bucket when the fish was still flapping violently. We tried peking duck two ways with fried noodles, it was very good. Of all the things we tried on many occasions, the only thing I didn't care for was the battered prawn balls coated in honey. It was way too sweet for my like. Overall a cheap and cheeful Chinese restaurant with consistently good food! Recommend it!
Chow Yum Fat
The restaurant name makes no sense because Peking or as it's called these days, Beijing, is inland. An inland restaurant specialising in seafood? No! It must be a Cantonese run restaurant trying to pass as Pekingnese. But no matter about the fakery. Because the food is good!

Quick, quick summary upon our last visit --

Peking duck (1/2 for $26.80) - delicious, want more! Skin was juicy and crispy. The pancake was nicely steamed, good flexibility, a nice accompaniment to the oh so juicy duck.

Pan fried pork dumplings ($9.8) - unlike the Japanese gyozas so popular these days, the dumplings were HUGE. Big, fat, juicy, tasty pork dumplings. And it is exactly what it says on the box. Pork dumplings. You won't get anything else inside these babies except fatty, juicy pork. Crunchy bottoms, soft top. Very nice.

Combination beancurd hotpot ($17.80) - we needed something to balance the richness. It worked. Not the most amazing hotpot I've ever had, but it did the trick. The hotpot was loaded with goodies, but the dish needed a little more seasoning.

Overall, worth the visit if you're in the area. Mmmm, duck...could do with some more right now!

This restaurant has been a long family favourite - whether for their afternoon tea options ($7.80) with optional upgrade to a pearl milk tea (~$1 extra), or as a place for dinner with family or friends. Service tends to vary since they have a revolving door of uni students working there but food is usually decent.

The Peking duck here is delicious, probably my most favourite in Sydney, however the rest of the dishes are a little bit bland for my liking.

It's okay for a Chinese meal. Service was a bit slow. The roll Peking duck thing was good! Staff speaks minimal English. However, definitely packed during dinner every time I come here.

Being a local to the area we usually come here for a good Chinese meal that hits the spot. Only thing I would say is the floor and chairs are dirty but the food is pretty good. We ordered fried fish, peppered beef, crispy chicken and Sichuan chicken. The fried fish was a bit oily compared to the last time and the texture of the fish wasn't as good as the last time I had it and the peppered beef was nice and peppery however I would of preferred the sizzling beef or shredded beef instead. The crispy chicken was too dry to eat and needed a sauce to go along with it. The Sichuan chicken was nice and spicy but also a bit oily. Would recommend this place and a booking is essential as it gets packed.

Came here for a quick Peking Duck and San Choy Bow. Originally was after same dish from other restaurant. We are glad we did.

Both food and service are good. Wait staff are very knowledgable.

Our favourite Chinese restaurant.. You're hard pressed to spend more than $60 here, on food for two people. And what you get for your money is delicious and authentic food. I have been here at least 10-12 times now and will continue to come back. You don't come for the service in any Eastwood restaurant, the food is what you judge them on and this place wins hands down for me. Compare this to a meal we had at Mr Wong's for $180 (no drinks), whilst the service was fantastic, the food was no better.

Service is poor, they literally drop your plates on the table. Hard to get any type of service and you can tell they want you out as soon as possible to try serve their next customer. Eastwood Garden Peking Restaurant used to be THE restaurant to go to. Sadly with more competition they haven’t stepped up their game. Quality has gone downhill maybe their good chefs have been pinched by competitors? With many other restaurants around, its no surprise why we wouldn’t be going back. We would rather head out to Ashfield for the same type of food.

We have been coming to this neighbourhood restaurant in Eastwood mainly for its xiao long bao, aromatic duck and northern Chinese style noodles.
Chopinand Mysaucepan
This Eastwood stalwart has been operating for many years and on any given day, especially weekends, you will have to queue to get in. Their speciality is the obvious Peking duck and many northern Chinese style of cuisine such as stir-fried noodles which are freshly made at the premises.

The food arrived promptly and Dumpling Girl managed to remember to take photos before digging in. The hot and sour soup was first to arrive which is my favourite of any Chinese Restaurants. After sharing the soup together the Shallot Pancakes arrived w

The crispy skin chicken with ginger and shallot sauce was scrumptious. The chicken was tender and succulent. The skin was seriously crispy and the ginger and shallot sauce a great compliment.

...we went to Eastwood to eat. Eastwood is famous for it's Chinese community and naturally, there are alot of asian restaurants and groceries in that area.

On a particularly hot Friday that Monsieur Poisson had off work, we ventured to Waterloo in search of some lunch. This has become an increasingly favoured area of mine in recent years to dine at or just to browse through places like Fratelli Fresh and Mac

Eastwood is so full of good, cheap feeds. I have barely begun to skim the surface! But one place I have been going to for years is Eastwood Garden Peking Restaurant. It's a guaranteed good meal, but slightly expensive for Eastwood. It always ends up being

One of my favourites. This is home to one of my favourite dishes - the Zhajiangmian ('Fried Sauce Noodles') which I usually get with my family during lunch times (after 2pm) for approximately $6.50 and it comes as a generous serving with a drink - I usually get milk tea. I was devastated when they seemingly closed last year as no other place that I've tried makes the noodles quite like they do. They were only undergoing renovation though it turns out, and the last time I visited, were in the process of opening an upstairs dining area. We've also come here for a few birthday/special occasions and their dinner menu is usually quite delicious though I can't say that there haven't been some dishes that weren't up to standard - the quality is inconsistent at times.

Duck was good. I had the Peking duck, Fluffy egg white and seafood, dumpling and sang choy bao. It was good.
Didn't have issues with the services. Arrived at 6pm, Friday and restaurant was half full. By the time we left, it was full and people were waiting.

Second time I have had a bad experience with Peking duck in Australia, last time it was with Quanjude Melbourne store. Slow service and unauthentic peking dishes. Probably go China to have Peking duck next time.
Chris
The food was overated, the service was rather terrible after waiting for almost 1 hour, the waiters just brush us off when we ask about it, i do not recommend this restaurant especially for dinner

Refurbished!. Restaurant recently underwent a major face lift; bright clean interior and even better service! Food is consistently excellent and good value for money. They're now providing fresh seafood kept live in the newly installed tanks towards the back of the restaurant. Opening hours have also been extended from 11am to 1am making it an ideal place to drop by when you get the late night munchies~ Alternatively drop by between 2-5pm for afternoon tea accompanied with their famous bubble tea for just $6.50 :) One of my favourite local cheap eats.
Jamie W.
Good for cheap Afternoon Tea.. Service has never been anything but brisk, efficient and even friendly for this eater. As Northern Chinese dishes are now offered in numerous Chinese restaurants in Eastwood and at around the same price, their lure is a cheap $6.50 afternoon tea special with a bubble tea drink, chosen from a Chinese menu from 2-5pm.
Other dishes are average, Peking Duck,is good and not too expensive. Wall, tables and dishes are clean, but yes, toilets are downstairs.

Good old favourites. This is a lovely place for a casual night out. Good value and nice food!

As soon as i saw the plates, I left the place. Those plates were very dirty. I was actually shocked.

Sorry nothing special dining here. It was like having meal at someone's house. Walls are dirty, place was tiny and you gotta go down the stairs (garage) for toilets and have to ask for key. Staffs were rude and lazy (told my friend's 5 year old to move just because it's easier for him to put the food on our table. The hell?). Hopefully it worth the bad service you gave us because it worth so much for me to take my time giving this feedback.

Good food. Came here several times for lunch/afternoon tea & dinner. like their set meals (good value) & the a la carte dishes are nicely prepared.
somehow i think the chef on dinner duties have better skills than the chef on lunch duties...

Excellent quality food and great service I recommend that you try the Singapore noodles and the salt and pepper calamary
Chopinand Mysaucepan
Aromatic duck. The peking duck is great in this restaurant but the real under-rated dish is the aromatic duck which I think is the best in Sydney.

We have been here countless times and this dish is consistently great. Crispy skin and succulent meat inside and the small bones are all edible with a fantastic crunch. Try it with a good pinot noir and it is a marriage in heaven!
Yuyutoy
This is probably my favorite restaurant. They do excellent traditional Cantonese food. I will give it 500000%.

Really didn't like it. We might have caught them on an "off" day but I think Garden Peking's overrated and the food was mediocre. Dinner started off on a sour note as we were led to our table - through a dodgy corridor next to the toilet accompanied by an unmistakable stench. Unfortunately, there was no escaping the smell as it wafted inside our dining room. Gag. Thankfully, it eventually dissipated (or maybe we became immune to it?)
The Peking duck was the only thing I'd rate - the skin was crisp and went well with the soft pancake. Sadly, the duck noodles were crappy...we were wondering what happened to the duck as there was only a handful of meat in there. The Snow Crab was the biggest let-down though. Honestly, the dish was 90% egg white and 10% crab. Other dishes were run-of-the-mill and very forgettable.
Not a pleasant experience and would avoid in the future.
