Review Max Joy Co - Eastwood

Anne Lau
1st time here on 14.6.22 3 x stars for the great ice cream range - loved the mango flavoured tub we bought Fast friendly service (if not busy) - 1 x star due to the shop stinking like durian, which is something I really dislike (no offense) - 1 x star because the tub was really expensive ($25 for less than 1L). There were gaps within the tub, so it's not packed fully/evenly therefore you're not getting ice cream at full capacity
Jennifer C
Smooth and creamy. Flavours taste authentic and not artificial. Matcha, black sesame, pandan coconut and lavender and honey were all delicious. We bought the 1L for $28 with 4 flavours and it came in an esky like takeaway box.
Phil Li
Not much to say but that they’re ice cream is pretty nice. Nice selection of ‘Asian’ flavors to choose from. On the pricier side but I did like how the takeaway containers look like

Handmade ice-creams with unusual flavours, must try. Place is brilliantly clean. Quite small, not much space for a big company. Staff working at a speed of light, very polite and able to describe what they sell. Ice-cream is of a great quality.

Came here for the famous Musang durian flavour recommended by a friend. For some special flavour there is surcharge on top of the regular price for ice cream, such as durian and matcha flavours. It costed $8.5 for one scoop of durian. Honestly it taste nice because they added real durian meat in. But with the price it costs, you could have buy one of those frozen durian from Asian grocery shops which gives you 100% durian meat 😆. Might come back to try out other flavours.

Take home pack durian ice cream, not for the faint hearted. Strong durian flavours, definitely worth a try. Want to go back to try some of the tea flavours too.

Amazing ice cream with lots of different and unique flavours. I had the Granny Smith Apple and it was delicious! Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
Sharon K
Love the flavours this place has has available but I find some of the flavours can be a overly sweet when you have one scoop. I’m not a durian lover but my mum is and she is obsessed with the Musang King Durian ice cream here.

My favorite ice cream shop! Interesting gourmet flavors using top quality ingredients. Friendly, attentive staff. It'll defiantly be a weekly routine for my family

Really enjoyed its waffles that is crunchy outside with a warm fluffy inside. The rice cake waffles was something interesting to try as well, would love it if its inside is more gooey like a mochi Really good dessert place in Eastwood.

Love Max Joy Co. It's the place to hang out with your friends and enjoy beautiful waffles and ice-cream. Opens till 10.30pm. Staff is very friendly. What more could you ask for?

We come here sometimes when we want amazing ice cream and waffles. I haven't tried anything here that I didn't like. The hojicha ice cream is so delicious, and the green tea and Belgian waffles are as well. They sell pints and quarts to take away.

Great customer service, greeted with a friendly smile from the friendly owner. Salted caramel was very on point with cute owner

I really love the Eastwood Granny Smith icecream. It's sweet and very yummy.
Debbie
This place has great “home made” ice cream that you can have there or take home in tubs. It is chewy too, not just creamy or drippy like some. Love it.
Lisa
Popped in for a light night dessert. Highly recommend the black sesame, pandan and coconut and blueberry cheesecake ice cream. Decent sized scoops. Ice cream was fresh, smooth and very creamy. Friend enjoyed the waffles, too.
Haroos
Mate of mine told me about this place and wow! The best mango ice cream I’ve ever had and the blueberry cheesecake ice cream was unbelievable aswell. Great little hidden gem in the area.
Eddie Zeng
Really delicious and great icecream. The flavours were abundant, diverse and interesting.
Definitely recommend trying Hojicha, black sesame and the black sticky rice.

Being one who frequents places such as The Cow & The Moon and Messina, I've come to expect just a little bit less from other gelaterias. When I got here on a Saturday afternoon, there was just a lonely couple inside and, as my friend told me, the shop was practically always empty save for the inexplicable lonely couples.

I ordered a thickshake with: lavender and honey, cookies and cream, nutella
My friends got: black sesame, hojicha and durian

Now here's the thing - the flavours themselves are already a little different, being inspired by Eastern desserts, and they're not super flavoursome. However, The Max Joy Co has the MOST aromatic gelatos ever! When I was drinking my thickshake, it was like I was somehow smelling it through my mouth at the same time. The lavendar, hojicha and black sesame flavours all had this incredible effect.
And that's why I consider TMJC to be one of Sydney's finest gelaterias!

I'd also like to note that following my somewhat gently orgastic experience, I telepathically broadcasted my pleasure throughout Eastwood and about 25 customers walked in over a period of 15minutes. My friend said this was an unprecedented event that our patronage caused.

Sorry the photos are bad; wasn't expecting on taking any but the gelato turned out to be so delicious.

Awesome range of flavours and new flavours rotating constantly, my favourite local for ice cream and waffles! Green tea and pandan flavoured waffles are a must try!
HungryBabesSugarApe
One very good reason to shop local. Don’t know the proprietors personally but seem rather passionate about ice cream and gelato.

Black sesame, green tea and mango are my go-to choices.

If not mistaken buy any 2 tubs free 1 scoop!
Didn’t see it written down but the server at the time said so.
Nathan
A really cute ice cream shop with coffee and some really nice fudge and flavours. If you're in the area I recommend popping in. It is open late as well which is great for after dinner.

Very friendly staff members. They have an wide variety of interesting ice cream flavours; I especially like the genmaicha, hojicha and yuzu flavours. Their moffles are also very well done - very interesting texture and taste.

Being one of the only ice cream stores on this side of Eastwood, it is a great place to stroll to after a meal and have dessert.
They have a wide selection of flavours for ice cream and a selection of waffles if your feeling indulgent.
The place is well lit and great for social gatherings. Bear in mind that it is a small shop and seating is limited. The staff are friendly and helpful in selecting your ice cream flavour by insisting you try the flavours.

Max Joy Co. is located on the quieter end of Rowe Street but it's by no means easy to find parking for at night. This dessert parlour is well-lit and offers quite a range of ice cream made in-store. Recommendations include their black sticky rice and hojicha flavours.

On this visit, I tried their moffle, which is basically a waffle made using a glutinous rice batter (making it similar to a grilled mochi) - this is definitely an acquired taste. I personally liked it but would have liked the waffle to be a little thicker so that there is more of the soft mochi texture encased within the crisp exterior, which has a tendency to stick to your teeth. The moffle was teamed with the hojicha ice cream, which has a strong roasted green tea flavour and colour.

nice selection of flavours. none of them are too sugary. had the sweet potato once but i haven't seen it since. I don't even like ice cream that much but I can't stop thinking about it - dense, almost gummy texture due to the heap of sweet potato used in its creation, like a purple pillow in a cup. I took my sweet time with it too because the starch prevented it from becoming the warm liquid I/C characteristically melts into. Other flavours are impressively unique and complex and serious dessert fans would be delighted. I'm just not one of them - especially at the high price the menu comes at thanks to the "ice cream but as art" subculture spawned by Big Gelato aka Messina lol

$4.95 a scoop, $6.95 two scoops. More expensive than Messina? Extra $1 for 'premium' flavours. So i got the Yuzu flavour which was unfortunately 'premium'. Paid $6 for a scoop. I think the price is pretty outrageous. I'm not sure if I'll return unless I have to. They also have durian, guava, hojicha, genmaicha, etc. Some flavours are seasonal so just try your luck!

A cute little ice cream joint in Eastwood. The most popular flavour here is Hoijicha (roasted green tea), so of course I had to get that. It's not as roasted compared to ice cream I've had in HK, but for Australian standards, it's got a nice roasted green tea flavour. I love my teas really strong, so would have liked more flavour in it, whereas most ice cream in Aus is on the sweeter side. The granny smith flavour is really juicy in green apple flavour and really refreshing, but definitely a bit too sweet.

This is a great new ice cream place in eastwood. Must try the black sticky rice if you don't like overly sweet ice creams, it is really good. Black sesame is also a winner.

Was excited to try this new dessert bar in Eastwood, based on the positive reviews, but was sadly disappointed.

• The icecream was not creamy and flavour was indistinct (tasted a bit sour in fact).
• The mochi waffles sound like an innovative idea, but were a strange hard/chewy texture
• The pandan coconut waffles were the biggest let down - soggy, cakey and doughy, with the faintest taste of pandan.

The ambience was pleasant and service was friendly, but unfortunately not enough to salvage the food that was served.

This little ice cream dessert cafe is the place to be if you have a sweet tooth. Four great things about this shop:
1. Very smooth and yum ice cream. Their Japanese tea flavour is the best!
2. Creative waffle menu. Must try their moffles, which is a waffle shaped Japanese mochi. It is crunchy on the outside and chewy on the inside.
3. Great customer service. Staff are patient and helpful - they know their stuff and actually give good recommendation.
4. You can charge your phone via USB or a normal wall charger in the shop for free
The Max Joy Co is an ice cream, dessert and drinks parlor located on the busy and vibrant Rowe Street in Eastwood. I found out about this place whilst searching Instagram, desperate to satisfy my craving for some black sesame ice cream. Feeling ecstatic that I found this so close to home, only a short walking distance from the apartment I was staying in when I first arrived, we headed there for dessert after lunch one afternoon.

Interesting flavours! Grabbed the eastwood granny smith which had actual granny smith apple pieces and kinder surprise for $6.95. Awesome value and it was a pleasure to eat! Totally recommend!

Update: came back with 2 scoops of hojicha and lychee. Absolutely delicious.

Finally a local ice cream parlour that has great flavour ice cream!!! Love the flavours here and appreciate a mix of Asian and Western flavours! Favourite flavours to date have been Black Sticky Rice, Sesame and Kinder Surprise. The flavours change occasionally so I'm always happy to come back and try different things! Their waffles are also pretty decent, only one I don't recommend is the 'Moffle' (mochi waffle) which sounds good in theory but it was tough and very hard to chew!
Anna
My new happy place! Such amazing helpful staff who are more than happy to answer any questions and make sure you get what you are after. It's so bright and colourful in there with lots of candy and soft toys around the place - all in all an ice creamery that is bound to lift your mood!

The Eastwood granny smith seems to be a popular choice so had to give that a go, and it did not disappoint. It has teeny tiny apple pieces, so small you barely notice but enough for some texture. I can see why it is so popular!

But my favourite has to be the black sticky rice. It is so so good. I usually can't finish ice cream by myself (not much of a sweet tooth) but if it's this flavour I can try and most likely succeed. Highly recommended.

The black sesame was also pleasant but there are so many around with this flavour that I would need it to REALLY stand out to get it again. I tried an ice cream frappe with this flavour and it wasn't that great to be honest. But I think this would also come down to whoever is making it (you can easily change the flavour by adding more ice cream/less milk etc).

A great place for ice cream/dessert in Eastwood!
Getinmybelly
•A decent selection of ice cream offerings
•Granny smith, lychee, mango, salted caramel are my favourites
•Forgot to take photos on all occasions as I get too excited about ice cream! Worth a try if you are craving a cold dessert after a big dinner

The Max Joy Co. is a wonderful little dessert place in Eastwood, and I was pretty happy when it opened up considering there aren't many ice cream places around Eastwood. It has a good selection of flavours and all the ones I've tried so far are great.

The stand out of course are the signature flavours, like the Granny Smith and the Hojicha ice cream. Definitely recommend this place if you're around the area, they even take eftpos!

It's been a point of focus among my friends for some time; where in Eastwood can you get a decent dessert after dinner?

The suburb has a ton of restaurants, but has had little dessert options in the past. Max Joy Co. offers a western dessert take, with a nice selection of ice creams and other items you'd expect in an ice cream bar.

I had the peppermint choc chip, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The service from the staff as well is very friendly and attentive, and with a really cutesy ambiance it makes for a great little stop whilst in Eastwood. As a local it's nice to have a sneaky dessert place to hit up till 10:30 at night lol. I wish them every success and to keep up the good start.

Such a cute dessert parlour newly opened in Eastwood! If you're looking for a good dessert spot in Eastwood I would definitely check out the Max Joy Co. their ice is made in Australia and their signature flavour is Eastwood's own Granny Smith Apple flavour. It has bits of apple inside and is really refreshing. The decor is so cute and welcoming and they have quite a range is deserts you can choose from. I'll definitely be coming back to try more, their moffle (mocha+waffle) sounds especially enticing.

If you're in Eastwood and looking for a dessert parlour to cure that sweet tooth pang... Then you're in luck. Head over to Max Joy Co.

Max Joy Co, situated a few doors down from the ever popular Home Kitchen, offers a range of desserts such as waffles, sundaes, shakes and ice cream.

This time 'round we opted for a double scoop - Hojicha and Black Sesame please. Hojicha is classic Japanese roasted green tea leaves ice cream with a lovely warm nutty note.

I did learn something new that night about how Granny Smith apples was first discovered around the Eastwood area hence the reason for their annual Granny Smith festival... something I'm now looking forward to attending. This came about after seeing a flavour relating Granny Smith with Eastwood on the menu.

That particular night, they had random spikes of crowds but overall it was quiet. It did not reflect the quality of dessert you received though.

The ice cream isn't the smoothest you'll have nor the best but it does the job and it doesn't break the bank. Personally i enjoyed my black seasame.. slightly grainy texture but that I didn't mind.

The service is top notch as well since they seem to know the product offering to a tee, They were friendly with customers who wanted to sample different flavours and even offered with flavour choice if you're overwhelmed.

To add to their customer experience, they even provide free USB chargers for your phone. So you can chillax, surf the net and nurse that ice cream.

This place has a lot of potential... good customer service mindset with a decent product to back it. I'll definitely be back to get a scoop of that Granny Smith.

Newly opened icecream parlour with friendly service. I had the black rice icecream which was deliciously creamy and tasted just like the soup version of the dessert but in an icecream form-so good! Also the Granny Smith gelato was refreshing and had the sweet and tart Apple taste (I personally found this one a little too sweet but was still tasty!)
