Review Golden Wheel Chinese Restaurant - Eastwood

Good old dependable food at a reasonable price. Food was excellent, my favourite being the satay beef (without the onions!). Great friendly service in a setting that invited good conversation. Love this place. I would recommend for both eat in and takeaway.

First of all, the folks who run this place are a family, and run it as such. You feel cozy in there, very friendly folks. The food is not quite the same as other Chinese places, one could say they are Aussie-fied versions of the traditional menu. The chef is the best at deep frying, but flavors can be hit or miss. The place is a little old and rundown, dimly lit, modern credit card functions seem to be absent. Would recommend though!

This restaurant had been an Eastwood institution for well over 40 years and I hope it never leaves. Eastwood had changed dramatically over that time but the Golden Wheel hasn't it's still serving the same fantastic Chinese with an Aussie twist that we all grew up with but has mostly gone long ago. The service couldn't be friendlier and more personal, the servings are genourous and the prices very reasonable. The restaurant is fully licensed so accepts byo wine or buy from their fully stocked bar. The restaurant is large and generally quite so suitable for groups of any size.

We ordered home delivery on Mothers Day & was told it would arrive in 40 minutes, but it took 1 1/2 hours!! We were starving by then, but still could not eat the over priced, tasteless meals!! My 85 year old mother, was so disappointed & declared it the WORST Chinese meal she had ever had!!

An institution for classic Chinese food. This place has been around since anyone can remember. located right next to the fire station. Have you really been to Eastwood if you haven't been to the Golden Wheel? Great food!

Amazing and friendly service ! Food was exceptional ! Highly recommend the lemon chicken, sang choy bao, the combination fried noodles, and the rice noodles with beef! Fantastic Chinese food and will be back for more !!

Golden Wheel is an Eastwood institution. Located next to the fire station on the quieter side of Rowe Street, the restaurant has been there for 43 years!

My friends and I decided to order takeaway after growing up in the local area. Long time admirers, first time diners.

Food: We ordered all the Australian Chinese classics - Honey Chicken, Mongolian Lamb, Sweet and Sour Pork and a Seafood Combination.

My favourite was the Mongolian Lamb. The deep fried dishes (honey chicken and sweet sour pork) were all soggy from being in closed takeaway boxes, but the flavour was there. The seafood dish was fine, it was all frozen seafood so the seafood had no taste, but that's what you get for a $20 dish.

Overall, I thought the servings were a little small - they were in thin rectangle containers.

Service: The lady was very nice and cheerful, letting us know how much longer till our food would be ready.

Ambiance: From the outside, the window tinting makes the interior look very dark and dim, but once you step inside there are lights on everywhere.

There is a bit of clutter behind the bar and around the entrance, but it gives the restaurant a very homely feel and you can feel the neighbourhood pride as the owners have stuck up local news articles on the walls. They also had a retro cash register (un-used) but to our surprise they also had the old school carbon copy credit card machines.

A friendly restaurant that serves classic dishes in a unique environment in Eastwood. I would recommend locals to definitely give it a go.
