Honestly I've been here so many times and the food never fails to impress me 😜😜 The taste is authentic without being over the top, and they're consistent with service as well!
Bianca: So I’m currently obsessed with dan dan noodles and have been on the hunt for some of the best in Sydney. I don’t know how far I’ll get with this search because I can’t go beyond the amaze Dan Dan at 257 Home Kitchen. 257 Home Kitchen specialises in Shanghainese cuisine, the Sheng jian bao are repeat favourites. I cannot express just how much I love this restaurant! Definitely, one of the more modern restaurants on the Eastwood strip, competing with the recently refurbed Taste of Shanghai. I’ve probably visited 6 times in the space of 2 months.
Love the food, decor and service here...
I am actually typing the review in the restaurant right now as the food are soooooo delicious here... will definitely come back!
This is recommended by many of my friends. I’m surprised by how neat and clean it is, compare to other restaurants. We enjoyed all the dishes, especially the mud crab! All are yummy and not as greasy as usual Chinese cuisine. Sure would visit it again!
A great casual Chinese restaurant specialising shanghai dishes. The dining ambience is very clean and modern, attentive staff and the food is really good. The shanghaied pan-fried buns are fantastic and a must order! The price is decent, too!
We had the Cumin Lamb, friend dumplings, jelly fish salad and the tofu with egg yolk. Yums x4!
Word of advice the weekend- book ahead or you will get turned away.
I saw the poor wait staff reply: "Please don't yell at
me - I only work here (I'm not the boss/owner) to a rather nasty 'walk-in' customer. 😳
A great shanghai style restaurant. The staff are friendly and happy to help. The food servings are generous and taste fantastic. Very neat and clean.
Favourite place for Chinese in Eastwood! Menu offers a wide selection of authentic Chinese dishes, food is always cooked to a consistent standard - also love the modern decor and interior design of the place.
Favourites are the dan dan noodles ($12.80), fried noodles with yellow chives and pork ($13.80) and pan seared pork dumplings ($9.80) - so delicious! Also really love the barramundi with vermicelli and tofu soup ($40.80).
Often very busy on Friday-Sunday nights so would definitely recommend booking!
Don't be fooled by the reviews from non-Chinese people, this place is second to none for their 100% authentic shanghainess cuisine. The soup we had taste exact as how I'd expect it to taste had we ordered it in Shanghai. The sweat and sour fried fish (not its proper English name) was devoured within 10 mins. The pork bun had a thin crust and a juicy filling. Hardly had time to take photos before the food disappeared. Next time I will definitely visit with a larger group so we can order more dishes.
Specialising in Shanghainese food, very clean and nice decor. The restaurant is always busy and takes 2 booking sessions, one at 5.30pm and one at 7.30pm, make sure to book as I saw people get turned away. The food was quite good, we ordered the sweet and sour pork, cumin lamb, steamed cod and green sprouts, all great. Prices are higher than many chinese places, expect $80ish for 4 dishes. But overall great settings and food.
One suggestion is they leave a bottle of water at every table as a waiter was carry lemon water around and had to keep going back to refill every table.
Great restaurant! Pan fried pork bun and anything related to chicken are my favourite! Strongly recommend everyone to come to this place to have a try.
This restaurant has an extensive menu of Northern Chinese cuisines. Everything we've tried from this restaurant has been tasty. Their pan fried pork buns are nice and juicy inside with a nice crunchy bottom, which was yummy!!
Service was ok when we were there, but they don't attend to you unless you ask. But I guess most Chinese Restaurants are like that.
Restaurant is new, therefore it's nice & clean.
Overall, we had a good experience & will be back.
I was one of those people who was attracted to this restaurant because of its popularity. It offers unique style of Shanghai Northern China type of food. I have tried its special lunch menu and like the braised pork with rice. I also like the smoke fish as a cold dish. But you need to be very careful because it has a lot of bones. I sometimes wonder when you can have smoke fish fillet instead of smoke fish.
Service: 7/10

This is the first time we’ve heard of a Chinese restaurant enforcing two sittings at dinner time. We’re kinda glad they do because otherwise you’d never score a table - even with a booking. Locals have jammed this Eastwood newcomer, dishing up Chinese fare with an emphasis on Shanghai cuisine.257 Home Kitchen looks more like a hip cafe – exposed brickwork, copper pendant lighting and bentwood chairs – but the menu is serious, with 120-plus dishes proving there’s more to Shanghai cuisine than xiao long bao soup dumplings.
I really like this place. The food is delicious and authentic and the menu is broad so plenty to choose from. The atmosphere is fresh and feels similar to a modern cafe. Food comes out quickly. I found the prices very reasonable and the serving sizes very generous.
Food is consistently good. Efficient and attentive service. Clean and nice decor. Good prices. One of the best Xiao Long Bao I have had. Shanghai noodles , fried rice, morning glory, salt and pepper pork chop, pan fried pork buns all tasty and fresh. Will be back to try more dishes
Food was excellent. Staff were so accommodating even though we came in ten minutes before kitchen closed. Xiao long bao was full of soup!
We ordered the fried bun, chicken with chilli sauce and stirred fried bak choy with pork crackling. The fried buns are superb! My first bite exploded with soup in bun. The chicken with chilli sauce is very different from the ones I had. This one has strong curry powder taste. As for the bak choy with pork crackling, mediocre. Will be back for other dishes.
their sweet and sour fish is really really good! highly recommended! still very crunchy even when the sauce is poured over it!
xiao long bao is also one of the best is Sydney! pastry doesn’t burst easily..
Every dish was well done and reasonably priced.
Braised pork belly with Quail eggs were unbelievable... it was served in a ceramic pot with a fire underneath to keep in warm.
Spicy dandan noodles were like a high quality malatang dish.
Cumin lamb was done in a way I've never seen before, I really liked how you could taste the heat from the wok even though it wasn't burnt.
Pan fried pork buns were done perfectly.
Steamed barramundi was the highlight. Staff were polite and helpful.
Very good Shanghainese food, on par if not better than the chain alternatives.
We had a wonton soup and giant meatballs with egg yolk filling - both dishes are highly recommended. The service was attentive and quick, bathroom - sparkling clean.
The interior is pleasant as well and I will def come here for dinner
