Review Mr. Stonepot - Eastwood

Ls Chan
This is The Place for good delicious and reasonably priced Asian Chinese food. The only setback is that the place is narrow and not for relaxing hang-out with friends. You eat and go - probably that’s how they keep the prices reasonable, by having quick turnaround (and not needing to wait too long for a meal..). Fried egg plant is a must have.

This place is your go to for cheap eats and quality food. The Pan fried dumplings - fluffy, not too much dough and the soup + meat is similar to street food in Shanghai. My other favourite is the ox tongue and okra so tasty and big proportion (enough for 3-4 people). Definitely a must try restaurant when in Eastwood followed by hitting up Black ball or K-Tea across the street to satisfy your bubble tea needs. Only downside is parking in Eastwood is a pain and patience of going around the block a few times is needed or lady luck to be on your side.

Had 3 dishes pictured n a soup, prices reasonable could be better.. Less oil will be great was going to try the lobster noodle or the crab vermicelli glass noodles but was pressed for time maybe next time. The service does lack attention i don't want to complain but when my son spilt a cup of water all over the table nobody came to attend to it n wipe it dry. These two points u get 4 stars or else it could be 5stars... All the food n soup came out hot n very fragrant will still recommend Mr Stonepot for lunch or dinner.

Came today in a large group and didn’t have to wait too long to be seated and the lady helping us did her best to cater to us. The food itself was pretty good. We quite enjoyed the wide selection but there were definitely some things that were a bit experimental and probably didn’t quite hit the mark like the charcoal chicken with durian sauce and popping candy. Very weird combo, not bad but probably shouldn’t be done. Besides that everything else was fine. Service was friendly and the dishes were served in a timely order. May come back for the other things.

I’ve come on multiple occasions as the range and value of the menu is hard to beat. I really enjoy their modern take on Chinese food, and the squid ink seafood fried rice is a go to for me and my family. The dim sum are great too, particularly the pan fried pork buns and wonton in chilli oil. There have been some occasions where we have ordered a stir fry dish and there is only a handful of small pieces of meat within but overall they are generally consistent and I highly recommend the restaurant.

We ordered the the Australian abalone black truffle rice, sweet sour lychee pork and lobster soup fish noodle with fish dumpling. The Australian abalone black truffle rice arrived luke warm. Unfortunately, we are Unable to taste lobster flavour in the soup. Although the sweet and sour pork has the taste and flavour, it’s not as crispy and warm when served to our table.

Came here as a big group of 10! Didn’t have to wait long. Food is tasty and good value! I was shocked their lobster with noodles was a very reasonable $88! There is so much variety to choose from here. Will definitely be back.

I love this place and food was fantastic but you did not have enough staffs. Food on the oily sides though. Also expect to leave within one hour . Very busy Friday and Saturday night

Stone pot squid ink fried rice is a must for me. I don’t care what others are like. This dish earns them 5star from me. It is not some premium ingredients but the tastes and texture just make me feel comfortable.

Loved the variety this restaurant provided. All-in-all costed us ~$90 for these dishes.

Taste: 4.5/5
Value: 4.5/5

Had their lobsters with noodles , crab with glass noodles and squid ink rice. Surprisingly quick on dish serving and huge portion, shared between 5 and struggled to finish.

I come here with friends often / family and the food has always been awesome. The selection is quite varied with traditional but also 'modern choices' that can satisfy anyone's taste buds.

I recommend trying out the salted egg dishes.

The service is relatively quick! The only thing to note is lines are pretty long so go during a weekday (Monday - Thursday) or earlier at 5 - 5.30pm before it gets too busy.

All very good, except never ever order their Peking duck, the worst I’ve ever tasted, should just delete it from the menu

The contestants:
- pan fried pork bun.
- sliced pork tripe with fungus and sprouts
- black truffle fried rice with eel
- deep fried eggplant with bread crumb
- apple flavour lamb ribs in cumin

It’s a tie!! All 5 dishes were a resounding success! So so tasty! Now I understand why there are lines go out the door & people queue even before they open shop.

Did I mention also that their portions are huge and the cost low!?

Too busy stuffing my face to snap pics!

It was our first time to try Mr. Stonepot with extended family. While I try to lower expectations every time we try a new restaurant, it was delicious! The menu was elaborate with a few experimental and quirky dishes. We ordered an assortment of dishes with a few ones standing out from the rest. The breaded eggplant was delicious, as was the fish and the deep fried chicken. Although the dumplings were passable, these were not their best dishes. Overall an excellent dining experience and we will be back!

Food
✰✰✰✰✰
VERY generous serving sizes. We got three different dumpling dishes and struggled to finish them. They were also a mere $9 or so dollars for each dish which is a price that you can barely get in Sydney with the quantity of the dishes. Would recommend the spicy dumplings as the sauce has so much dynamic flavour to it.

Service
✰✰✰✰
Service was very efficient and quick. As Eastwood is a heavily asian dominated area, some staff members did have trouble understanding English so we switched servers. There wasn't much interaction as we ordered our food by pencilling in a sheet of paper which added to their efficiency.

Ambience
✰✰✰✰✰
Nice, clean location with lots of seating and arrangements. There were two floors in the area so they could accommodate small and large groups.

Overall
✰✰✰✰✰
I've been seeing a lot of their dishes popping up on my social media feeds and I've finally decided to come here after it was avidly recommended by a close friend of mine. I can see why there is always a line for this place and a waiting list even before the place opens.

The food is really good and portions were very reasonable for the price. However it is hard to enjoy the food when the service is really bad, especially when you’re not Chinese. Please improve your service so your food doesn’t go to waste!

Was at line and asked to put time. Staff at front skipped us. All Chinese customers was put in a table first. We wrote our name a second time without the staff at front. Same number of people and wrote a Chinese name instead.

Food is good but please Change this staff member. 7:27pm November 26.

Very chic place, clean and smells good. The menu is very innovative, food is presented beautifully and tastes equally good. Generous portions. We had the stonepot with Tofu and Mushrooms ( awesome ) going there for that dish again. The sweet lotus stem was something that I have never tasted before, like it. Certain to visit the place again.

This place is a treat! It is busy even on a Monday night, but it didn't take too long to get a table for seven. They also weren't in a hurry to shoo us away once we finished our meal.

We ordered a few stone pot dishes, the creamy squid ink rice with seafood is consistently good. The singapore style barramundi has interesting flavour, tangy, spicy and perfect with rice. However the fish can be fresher.

The pork buns and wontons in red chilli oil were very well done, juicy fillings and not greasy at all. The spinach noodles with seafood was also surprisingly good. Noodles were chewy and garlicky.

The whole meal cost less than 20$pp which is a very good deal. Will definitely come back.

Good food and pretty fast service. I'm a fan of the Mr Stonepot/bowl places, and they always do good portions for the price. My biggest complaint is it really does get too crowded and busy here, especially on the weekends. The staff all seem like their Chinese uni students or the such, so service isn't very friendly. But the food is enough to make up for it. Just don't come on a Friday night or the weekends.

This is a delayed blog post. I happened to be in Eastwood one afternoon and noticed there's another Mr Stonepot in Eastwood. I have been to the Chatswood Mr Stonepot some months ago. My go to was always Taste of Shanghai in Eastwood but decided to try something new. The restaurant is completely busy as I walk in and luckily there's one table left for Matt and I.

Actual rating 3.5/5
Food portions were larger than expected with good prices. The Xiao long baos were nice. The squid ink rice + seafood had much too much rice compared to seafood but was also nice in flavour. My friend ordered fish dumpling noodles which he enjoyed.

Better have reservation, they always busy!

Venue:
Located on Rowe street, Eastwood, you cant miss this spot because there are always big queue outside the door.

Service:
It was ok, nothing so special.

Food & Service:
Wow, another memorable dinner.
My friend who lives in the area made reservation for dinner.
Everything was perfect, just what we like to eat.
The best dish was the squid ink rice with prawns and muscles, delicious!

Best dumplings in eastwood hands down! Vibe inside is also real good, feels pretty fancy but prices are still heaps cheap! Its a bloody winner

Loved 50% of the dishes that hit the table. A huge fan of the garlic bean sprouts and the fried eggplant. Dumplings are a pass - "Taste of Shanghai' just up the road is a little more expensive but far superior.

One of my favorite Chinese restaurant to go to for a meal, the food is delicious and reasonably priced. Favs include the Singaporean chili barramundi, Truffle fried rice, pan fried pork buns and the mushroom with garlic shoots clay pot. Most dishes are great there. It gets very very busy with long queues so be there early if you want to get a seat!

Waited around 30mins for a table. Dishes are a hit or miss, some are large portions and some are smaller. Service was lacking and atmosphere was very loud. Overall food was average

Very fast service. But the queue can be long if you go during the peak hours. Love the food here. The portion is quite huge and tastes decent. I had pork intestines and xiao long bao.
The pork intestine was very nice except it is a bit too oily. Xiao long bao was cheap & delish.
Would come back here again to try other dishes.

Really good for a speedy affordable lunch! They’ve got quite a range of different dishes - both spicy 🌶 and non spicy.
Not sure about other times but we didn’t have to wait outside the door at all. Once we ordered the food came out really quickly as well 👍🏻

Tried this place just before the closed to avoid the queues. The service is much better than other restaurants in eastwood, which is nice. The dumplings were not bad, juicy but the skin was pretty thick. The tofu was delicious, so was the salted egg lotus root but it became quite heavy and oily towards the end.
Worth a try, if you can come with many people you can try more variety as opposed to just one or two dishes.
