Review Sushi Arigato - Eastwood

I really love the freshness and generosity of their food and servings in this Japanese restaurant. Too bad the place is just tiny and there’s always a long cue in here. It’s better to book it ahead if you plan to eat here.

This place is amazing!! If you are in need of a sashimi and sushi fix this is the place that will wow and amaze. The proportion sizes will put Sokyo to shame as the cuts are generous beyond belief. The sushi and sashimi here is top quality on par with some omakases. We got a seat by the bench and the chefs were preparing everything right in front of us. Definitely go for the sashimi boat and the miso as you won't be disappointed. Very generous large serving of wasabi and ginger to help you tackle the sashimi boat. Definitely coming back to this place for my Japanese fix. Do note its a one hour seating time only.

Best sashimi, sushi, rolls, noodle ever.. This was my third time to eat here, and all time was so great! And there are always lots of people inside of the restuarant, so make sure to book before you go here!

Consistently decent sushi at an okay price. They also serve sushi with higher end ingredients like ikura or uni.
Yu Sun Tang (Tangy)
Excellent quality fish and sashimi prepared in front of you. Generous servings and the seafood tasted fresh.

Pretty fresh and tasty. Not a wide selection of fish and a little pricey at $53 for the deluxe combination platter

There's always a long queue. For some reason, they don't seat you even though a few tables have already been cleared. They don't even explain anything, they just make you go outside. After a while, they'll let you in and seat you at the same vacant table awhile ago. Food was decent enough. But not worth the horrible service. Probably better to get take out. The atmosphere of the place was not appetizing anyway. It's so cramped and the tables are sticky.

New 2022 update: this place still serve best sushi around the area. Services still very good and food quality still top notch. ——- 2018 review: This place serve the most fresh sushi in Sydney! We come here all the time to have sushi, their sushi are cut and put together when you order. Not like sushi trains out there. These guys are also serious about their sushi. We always find their fish very fresh. We also like their cold soba and teriyaki chicken or teriyaki fish here. The service is excellent, the owner recognise us already and always give us a very welcome smile and make sure we are looked after. This place is not big and since the food is very nice, it tend to be full most nights. So booking is essential. Highly recommended.

My go to sushi train in the area. Almost all the plates are $3 which makes it easier to just pick and enjoy. A few dishes, such as sashimi are more. And you can order off the menu too.

Service has always been friendly and efficient. The place is clean and comfortable. Table seating as well as train seating.

Food is tasty and substantial. Although most dishes are $3, you get great value and variety.

Great value, $3 per plate. The sushi is pretty good, and you can order the karage chicken (which then gets cooked to order) which still counts as regular plate.

Decent variety of sushi available.

Has had recent refurb of the restaurant and change of owner. Sushi is still good, but some items are now more expensive

Don't be fooled by the average 3.5 stars because owners have changed! I used to come here all the time few years ago and returned there recently, realised that the original owners had sold the place. We decided to try it out anyway, it was cheap, $3 a plate. Realising the conveyor belt had little variety, we ordered plates off the menu to be told: no tuna, no kingfish, no prawn... what?!! It was only 6pm? Then we saw that everything on the belt was salmon, salmon and more salmon.

Surprisingly they said they had uni so against my better judgement, we ordered a plate ($6) and other plates of rolls, tobiko and calamari and udon. The uni tasted off and should not have been served.. the horrible taste left in my mouth had to be washed down with spoonfuls of udon soup which tasted like an instant mix.

The best plate was the avocado roll but then, avocado, rice and seaweed - who could get that wrong?

I will never come back here.

Good sushi train. Any 4 for $10! Amazing value and what's more food is fresh! Order what you want if it's not on the train. Staff sometimes don't know what you're asking but the sushi chef will come out and get you what you want!

Local sushi train that does the job. $3 plates and chefs that are seemingly very bad at their job (in a very good way - every sushi seems to have an almost ridiculous amount of raw fish / avocado / all the other good stuff).
They have some interesting combinations of ingredients for some of their sushis (again, in a good way).
Not always the absolute freshest but good enough especially for the price and the serving sizes.

Sushi Arigato:
Fresh and extremely clean food.
Generous portioning.
Reasonably priced (only $3.00/plate)
Neat atmosphere
Quiet (but in a positive way) because the food does all the talking.
Guaranteed a good feed

The only minuscule issue would be the limited variety that is found on the conveyer belt. Rest assure, there is still a great range of different fish and styles of sushi.

Decent sushi at an affordable price, lack of variety on the conveyor. Their service is poor and varied.

Food: 2.5
Ambience: 2.0
Service: 0.5
VFM: 3.0

One of the many $3 sushi joints in Sydney, Sushi Arigato is a favourite of many local students and couples in the area. They provide relatively fresh sushi at decent portions, and is on my list of cheap sushi places to go if I'm craving sushi in the area.

The service, unfortunately is quite lacklustre, as is the variety. I always would prefer to order fish belly nigiri - salmon belly, kingfish belly - and they would often sound confused, even though it's written right there in the pictorial menu. They would then place the order to the chef, who would have the time declare it as unavailable. There was once they even waited a full 20 minutes to tell me this, and the restaurant was empty!

But for the common favourites, it's not bad. The maki rolls do have a rather generous splashing of sauce, and they keep the train pretty well stocked. You don't even notice the lack of service if you're going with a friend.

Oh, and don't forget to bring cash as there is a $20 minimum for eftpos. It's placed right behind the counter in a pale pink sign with faded writing, so it can be easy to forget.

As part of our search to find cheap and good Japanese food close to home, we stumbled onto this place hidden on a side street in Eastwood. Actually the real reason was we were looking for a Ramen place and it was closed and we used this place to kill the Japanese food cravings...

From the outside, the place looked quite unappealing. With a name like Sushi Arigato as well.. it really didn't help it's cause.

Inside the staff seem to be all Korean... which seems the norm in this suburb.

The dishes were actually quite decent. I felt quite unsure all night about their cleanliness and kept asking my wife to smell this and that to ensure that it's not off.

The deal they had was anything on the conveyor belt was $3 a dish. The wall had pictures of dish colours to match with pricing but it doesn't seem to matter anymore and they haven't seem to bother to remove it.

The plain udon was quite decent. Despite being a warm night... it really hit the spot as we both shared this decent serving.

The range on the conveyor belt wasn't wide enough for me. Unlike the city with it's many sushi train options that give you the option to choose off the menu for the same price... this place totally lacks in that department.

I didn't bother over eating as eventually I felt like I tried everything I wanted to try.

They offer catering as well...

I think this will be a revisit if and only if I'm craving sushi and just can't be bothered to go the distance... though in saying that I've tried some other Japanese places in Eastwood that is far better than this...

Good place to eat when you're craving sushi. Prices are OK.

I've been going to this little sushi train for years. Excellent dishes, good variety, great service and cheap plates. Parking can be difficult but being in Eastwood this is part and parcel. This is my face sushi joint in the burbs.

The first time I've been to Sushi Arigato was 2 years ago (2009). Their lunch time sushi train is only $2.60 and $3.20. Recently came back this year and was surprised that their prices havent changed. You get a variety of choices including the traditional sushi, nigiri and salmon. Aside from the sushi train they also serve hot noodle dishes. Not a fancy place to eat but definitely one of my favorite sushi places because of it's value. Staff is also friendly and attentive. Would definitely go back.
