Review Zenya Noodle Bar - Eastwood

Looks like the place has had a change of management since I was last here. The overall layout is definitely better now that it's had a refurb. Good value food, but I would say that it only tastes okay compared to other Japanese restaurants.

Ordered the tokyo ramen and the ton katsu ramen. Tokyo ramen had a light broth and mininal flavour. The ton katsu ramen had a nice richer pork broth but it comes with a tonkatsu (pork cutlet) as opposed to pork slices which was interesting though it lacked flavour and the meat was a bit dry. The staff seemed to be a bit slow and we didnt get water until half way in our meal.

Been here a couple of times and I really enjoy it. The ramen & sushi’s delicious. Was a bit suss because I heard they changed owners and I noticed they were Chinese staff... is that bad that it turns me off a little? Nonetheless it’s still good and I like it.
Gee
one of the few places in eastwood that doesnt have lines down the street! but I cant imagine why. the food is good, comes out in a timely manner.

Fantastic Tokyo style ramen. Tasty gross and endless genmaicha refills. Worth the visit and reasonably priced.

Zenya used to be one of my family and my favourite dining spots. However since they changed ownership the quality of the food and service has dropped. The consistency of the taste of the food is mediocre at best. My Ramen was so bland tonight that I had to ask for extra soy sauce to bring it up to flavour. Dishes were also being first served to tables who arrived later than ours. Another time, my Ramen noodles were uncooked but due to the long waiting times I just ate it as I did not want to wait for another bowl to be cooked. It's a pity but I don't think I'll be rushing to return to this restaurant again.

Something has changed. Owner perhaps? Food was average to below average.

Save yourself the trouble and avoid. Used to be a great Japanese run store which I would be proud to say wasone of the better ramens in Sydney. Didn't realise they changed owners before seated but tried it anyway. Should have realised the warning signs, this store used to have a constant line during peak hours, but more than half empty at 730pm. Gyoza was surprisingly tasty but lacked the sticky crust bottom. Karage very mediocre, probably slightly worse than average. Quite dry and unflavourful. But I was hopeful because sometimes great ramen stores focus on the ramen and not the sides. This was not the case. Ordered the shoyu ramen, broth had scum on it, another bad warning. Broth was bland and loaded with msg (got thirsty after first spoonful), did get hints of shoyu though. The broth also wasn't clear like most shoyu ramen, but cloudy. Chashu has gone down in quality, they used to have the option of proper Chashu and pork belly type toppings but replaced a single type now. In summary: new owners lack the authenticity, attention to detail and service. This is not japanese ramen but think more a cantonese version, indeed would feel like what a cantonese diner would serve and claim to be ramen. They have big portions, but if the food isn't enjoyable, it isn't a good thing. Never coming back again would rather travel to chatswood or crows nest for ramen.
