Review Omar And The Marvellous Coffee Bird - Elsternwick

Hunter
It's a nice place. Food was decent, staff were friendly, and it's clear they put a lot of effort into the place. The only thing is the coffee to my taste was tasteless. The milk was done properly, it was presented well, but there was no coffee flavour at all, just a cup of expertly steamed milk. My partner and I found it quite odd how the coffee just tasted like milk when everything else was fantastic. Will probably come back and give it another chance as it really is a nice place.

This place makes the Broadsheet list of best coffee in Melbourne. Does it live up to the hype? Not quite. Ordered a flat white. Strong, bitter, with a full body, smooth. But to me too much bitterness, and perhaps a touch of sourness. Others may appreciate this style, which cuts through milk well. Good but not great.

It's similar to the atmosphere of Melbourne CBD cafe's. Customer service from baristas and waiters was great as well as the speed of service, however the taste of the coffee wasn't as great as other high named cafe's. Indoor and outdoor sitting options available, the 4 stars is given mainly due to the high cleanliness and high level customer service, Melbourne is the capital of coffee and I hope that this place will hopefully match it's quality of coffee to it's great quality of service.

Wooooow $7 for a coffee?? I’m still in shock! They don’t have soy or almond milk! And the stuff was pretty rude! Definitely won’t come back . Give 2 stars because the place is beautiful
Esther Althaus
Friendly staff and charming venue but it was disappointing that they dont stock any sugar-free altenatives for the coffee. Strange sized take-away cups. The regular size takeaway cup resembled a small ice cream cup and the large cup is what other cafes would refer to as standard.

A friend recommended this place as his favourite coffee in Melbourne. I didn't believe him but now that I've been, it is one of the top cafes in Melbourne if you like prefect crema and robust, aromatic beans. Not a place for food as they focus on the beans. I'd say the coffee here is on par with some of the best places in the CBD. Highly recommend and worth the trek.
Sandeep Adnani
Great coffee, smooth oat milk latte, decent food, mild flavours, a little pricey yes but don’t mind it for the good service.
Angie
The Kenyan pour over was really nice and the staff recommended the Cruffin, which is really good! It's an interesting little pastry, like a croissant in a log/elongated muffin form 😆 it's fun to eat. The staff are friendly and chill. During covid19 times, social distancing at this little cafe was very responsible the morning we went. Good on them! I really loved the high ceiling space as well! Really good vibes at this spot. Will definitely be back for more coffee & treats 😊

Bought the white coffee beans for the first time last week and just wanted to say they were delicious 😁

Always exception coffee, friendly staff and a good energy in the establishment.

To be greeted with a genuine “Good Morning” after a cold and windy ride was just the tonic!
Great atmosphere. Great decor and the coffee.. well rounded bean with a strong tone. Well made by a quality barista. Great job guys!

Lovely little cafe serving up hot coffee and a selection of pastries and sandwiches.

I popped in here recently for a much needed coffee fix, and I certainly wasn't disappointed. The coffee here is of excellent quality and well worth trying. A large open space with a modern, industrial feel, Omar and the Fabulous Bird has a friendly vibe and is a fun venue.

An interesting food menu with some great options, but on my most recent visit we had some fantastic fruit toast. A staple on most cafe menus, and often overlooked; this was really good. I also had some chocolate cake from the fabulous display, and it too was tasty.

The wait staff were lovely and chatty, and we felt very welcome here. A fab cafe with a cool ambience, great coffee and friendly staff makes us all the more eager to return.

Has constant, loud, deep-bass, thump-thump "music" which is incredibly annoying. When you come in for a coffee or a bite to eat, you want to feel relaxed. When I mentioned this politely to a staff member as constructive feedback, he just laughed and said nothing. Extremely rude.

If coffee is in the name you’d hope it would be amazing. Can safely say it is brilliant. The texture and richness in the beans complimented my simple yet tasty meal. The menu here is small yet delish, I had avo on toast with some smoked salmon and it was perfect. The staff here were very friendly and accommodating!

FAST Food Review: Omar and the Marvellous Coffee Bird in Gardenvale

Food: Nice simple bread dishes including pork belly, chicken and tuna melt. Coffee - What this place is all about and it’s good, especially the Kenyan coffee drip - 3.5/5

Ambience: Nice cozy feel, perfect for a rainy day hideaway with a good book or browsing on your MacBook - 4/5

Service: Friendly and knowledgeable staff explained the menu well - 3.5/5

Total: 11/5

Top Tip: If you like your coffee extra hot in a takeaway cup then order it over the counter when you arrive as they don’t serve coffee in takeaway cups if you’re dining in

#coffee #gardenvale #cafe #food #book #top #tip #hideaway

Opened New Year’s Day so it was great. But they don’t have eggs even though here is the word bird in its name. Tad pricey for smashed avo with salmon as the portions were quite small. Nice coffee

If you’re a seasoned Melbourne coffee snob then this place is your destination. Single origin beans sourced and roasted in-house. Coffee never disappoints. Nice range of well prepared food options on offer. I’m a regular here
Julia Stehli
Staff was friendly and coffee good, but food was only ok, inside temperature cold (due to constantly open sliding door) and soy milk disgusting (no idea what brand they used but definitely not bonsoy)
Mattcaneat
Great little coffee roasting outfit. Clever, simple choices rather than a huge range. But absolutely recommended. Staff are friendly, engaged and helpful. Atmosphere is terrific. Food is - again- really good, and will become a cheeky breakfast option en route to work. A take-away coffee will defs be on the radar.
Lili La Tigresse
Great coffee and atmosphere for this hidden gem! The decor is superb and vintage -industry like . Really enjoyed my time there , friendly staff
Becca
It's always worth a re-review and this one is a shocker. This place used to be brilliant but now it is full of staff with bad attitudes. 6 staff serving 20 people mean you shouldn't be waiting 20 mins for a coffee. Too busy being too cool to actually remember the customers pay the bills. Never again.
Veggirl
The worst soy coffee I’ve ever had. I don’t know what brand of soy milk they use but it tastes horrible with their coffee. Just tastes like warm soy milk with no coffee flavour. It got a 2 because my partners long black was OK, avoid if you are lactose intolerant or don’t drink cows milk.
My partner also said the staff was unfriendly.
Tomlovestoeat
Absolutely top notch coffee ☕️ The food was pretty standard breakfast grub, I had the beans which came with Avo and yoghurt. Will definitely be back for the coffee.
FoodieGuru_770
Had Cup of Tea and Coffee and some breakfast at this fine coffee establishment. The coffee is second to none. The pride the owners take in preparing the coffee and their expertise is something I have never seen before.

I strongly suggest piping past for an authentic South American coffee. The cakes are also great.

Absolutely on top three of my cafe list! Won't let you down! Friendly staff and quality coffee. Even they only serve sandwiches and toasts, the food is tasty and price is reasonable. Highly recommend!

I literally love everything about this place. The service was fast and efficient but attentive and friendly (I love how my server that day was literally stopped and had conversations with everyone). I was served a no-nonsense (like, they literally dumped a spoonful of chocolate on top of the foam, with no stylish art whatsoever) cappuccino. Don't be fooled by the appearance, though, the coffee was so brilliantly made, I had to order another cup! I also ordered their Tuna bread roll -- and just like the coffee, they made this no-nonsense bread rolls with generous portion and delicious stuffing! It's been a while that I have had no-nonsense and satisfying brunch in Melbourne, where most cafes seem to compete with each other to make "most instagram worthy" brunch menus.
The only reason I gave the place 4.5/5 is just because it's pretty far from where I live and it's pretty difficult to reach with public transport.

Omar, oh my. Some of Melbourne's best coffee is to be found within this hidden gem down in the Southern suburbs. Stop by on your way to Brighton beach & be sure to sit in. The pastry selection is excellent, the service friendlier than most of the inner city joints. And the coffee? Hard to beat.
Christopher Jayakar
Tried this place with a friend for a morning breakfast, tried the mushrooms with bread it was really nice with the melted cheese, great location and friendly staff
Sharon
Food is so over priced and especially considering the small portion size. Ridiculous really.
If it was exceptional food then it would be justified but it's just standard stuff, nothing special at all.
Coffee is ok, not bad but not amazing either.
Wouldn't return, so many other options.
Estrella.finney
I've been to this cafe regularly since moving to Elsternwick and ordered a 'magic'. I was given a latte instead. I returned it and said that's not what I ordered. They proceeded to tell me in peak morning business, generating a lot of attention as if to prove a point, that there's no such thing as a magic. The waiter told me that it originated from NZ and that it's not real, it's just a strong latte. I was so embarrassed that I said can you just get me a picollo then. It didn't stop there, he brought the manager over who kept going with it! I told them that it's a double ristretto with warm milk in a 160 cup. They just kept going!

I left without drinking anything! Guys if you are an inner city cafe, please read up on what the different types of coffees are. And don't be rude about it.
Med Sep
Friendly staff, pleasant atmosphere, and to top it up great coffee and pastries.
As a fan of good quality coffee, I highly recommend this gem.

Great coffee, food and service here, always. Our kids have the porridge and for us it's the mushrooms toasted sourdough with lebneh and melted fontina cheese and the braised beans with avocado.
Mo
Omar's is really nice! Really cute set up with moveable tables, lots of different newspapers to choose from, really friendly staff, and great coffee. Parking out the front and near a train station too.

Five stars aren't enough! Best coffee and service in Melbourne, by far! The coffee is spectacular, the small menu delicious and the service is second-to-none. They clearly love what they do! Keep up the brilliant work guys!

This was our favorite coffee place. The coffee is fabulous and the wait staff are friendly and efficient. Today was disappointing though. Two of us ordered hot chocolate, and found it smelled unpleasant, as though the milk was on the turn. The waiter took it to a man we think was the owner who sipped it and said it was fine. While he offered to replace it, the offer was made with a surly "there's nothing wrong with it". We politely declined, and he charged us for it. So disappointing. We're not sure we'll go back as we no longer feel welcome.
Julycheee
I'm rather confused because the coffees we had here were both so bland and watery. For a minute I actually thought they had brought me hot water... I couldn't for the life of me even taste coffee! For such a highly rated place for coffee, this seems really bizarre and my partner and I either have strange taste or we both got duds. Either way it was a disappointing visit.
Jess
Best coffee we've had in a long time :) excellent service. Got the mushrooms, croissant and ham/cheese flatbread - all tasty and good for the price. The only negative is that the menu is quite small and they don't have any eggs/bacon etc..
Who Loves Good Food
Great marvelous coffee, lived up to its name! The food was ok but on the pricey side for what you get. We tried the roast chicken, mayonnaise, avocado & red onion flat bread - the bread was nicely toasted, generous fillings but we felt the chicken wasn't fresh. Their tuna melt was better, love the rocket leaves on top. Service was friendly. Will come back to try other stuff.

Arrived for a late lunch and was seated straight away. And down the end so we could fit the pram in 👍🏼. Ordered a long black and hubby a flat white. Great coffee. Full of flavour and love how hey gave me hot water to add myself. Ordered smash avo with salmon and tuna melt. Moth really goods defiantly glad I added the salmon it all worked really well. Hubby loved his tuna melt. Coffee was so god I bought some to take home and enjoy. Staff were lovely and friendly. Great to stop by with mates for a coffee and catch up menu is basic but still good
Hungryjack001
Always interested in seeking out cafes with really good coffee and this cutey did not disappoint. Seated at whimsical little tables that sit on tracks for easy mobility. Lovely relaxed service on entering i.e we were noticed immediately but not leaped upon. Ordered a variety of coffees, all delicious. We ended up going for the smashed avocado which was pushed beyond the pedestrian with a hit of capers and chilli, just enough, and came with a very generous serve of smoked salmon I had the decadent and delectable mushrooms and melted fontina on toast. Wow and wow!! Lovely guy at register split the bill "No problem"

I'd read about this cafe in a specialty coffee book whilst back in Sydney at one of my locals. Somehow, Omar's was a short stroll around the corner for a work meeting pre-lunch, leaving it on the cards for a visit during the trip after my surprise whilst walking past. I really must say, I've never felt so welcomed in a cafe. Hamish was absolutely lovely and accommodating. As other's agree, the coffee is great. There is a certain calm and relaxing atmosphere here, leaving it an enjoyable place for some casual conversation or a bit of reading over a coffee.

I favour shorter menus but all the options here had appeal. I went for the braised beans which didn't seem so much braised, but delicious nonetheless. Call it picky, but I appreciate the detail of actually serving butter at room temperature to allow for an easy spread. Too many cafe's tend to overlook this. Loved the labne in this and it made good friends with beans and avocado.

The cafe is well lit and airy, and the polished-warehouse style finishing at Omar's often runs risk of a cold and industrialised vibe, experienced elsewhere. Fortunately an understandably happy crowd and warmth from the staff here easily ward this off.

Hands down the best coffee in Melbourne.

Every time I have eaten here I have left appreciating their staff and service more and more.

Their food is fantastic and the environment is warm and welcoming.

Omars has made me rethink coffee and has convinced many of my friends to start drinking coffee. The only problem is they will only drink coffee here!

You got spooned 🍴

The owner creates a friendly comfortable place as soon as you step in with a great big smile every time! That's why I like this place and the coffee and food is good too.
Little Red Elefant
The coffee was delicious and the food was simple, tasty and satisfying. The cafe was cute and had a nice welcoming feel to it and the staff were attentive and friendly. I ordered the prosciutto, hot mustard, mozzarella, tomato and basil toasted roll. My only suggestion would be to serve with a side of mustard, I would have liked a little more. I will be back, 4.5 trumpets.
Matt Jameson
Nice atmosphere, good food to choose from with the appropriate amount of variety. Will definately be coming back here the coffee is also not too bad!!!
Frank Herr
Seems like we got some bad luck.

I've been here twice in recent months and the coffees were just pathetic. I'm not sure what the good reputation is for - both me and my friend were ready to simply leave the coffees. Lattes tasted like hot milk. Lacked flavour.

The place is nicely decked out and the ambience is lovely
Food Etc.
One of the best coffees I've had to date in Melbourne. Period.
Knowledgeable staff with a clear passion for coffee. Will be coming back regularly for the coffee. Can't wait to try the food.

A cute little cafe in Brighton. The decor has a warehouse feel to it with rolling tables! The coffee is delectable and consistently excellent!
The wait staff were super attentive and catered to our questions about the specific coffee beans they were using at the moment. Such a great vibe. The food was also delicious we had
The smashed avocado with labneh, capers, chilli, lemon zest and salmon. This was an amazing mix of flavous the zing of the capers and the spice of the chilli with the creaminess of the avocado was divine!
We also ordered the mushrooms served on sourdough with labneh and fontina cheese. THIS WAS FANTASTIC! It tasted like a divine cheesy mushroom pizza and went down a treat.
A cute little find will definitely be back!
World In A Bite
Delicious foods - simple & tasty.. Lovely service! One of the staffs was super nice. I think his name is hamish 🙄.. What got me excited and wanting to bring my friends here is how the tables are attached on a railway like tram track 😁.. Also, love the Kombucha! Probiotics! (Really woke me up) 😶 #emmaandtoms #raspberrykombucha #healthystuff

New menu is coming soon....

I'm so glad to see that as they are limited in choices and small in portion, I trust the kitchen has come up with something to wow us.

Their coffee is unique, must be since they roast and blend their own, on the darker side, always pleasant.

Semi-warehouse feels, exposed bricks, pallet rack shelving and rustic.

Looking forward to trying your new Menu.
Corbossa
One of my regular coffee bean suppliers.

Almost always on point with the coffee beans.

Great service, friendly staff and usually a good selection of single origin coffee.

The ham, cheddar, tomato, rocket and hot Russian mustard flat bread is great. Have enjoyed that several times!

Get here early on weekends for special doughnut deliveries.

A cool cafe and not too far to travel for it. Check it out!
Food4eva
This is my new favourite place! Consistently great every time I go. My favourite thing to order is the brown rice and quinoa salad and I PRAY to the café gods that it never goes off the menu!

The staff are always lovely, warm and attentive. The food never takes long to reach the table either. Fantastic place, keep it up.

The best coffee in Melbourne. I had Seven Seeds for years around Carlton when there was nothing like it. But then came Omar around 2010. Nothing has that characteristic natural sweet caramel flavour of an Omar white coffee blend. It doesn't need sugar because it is naturally sweet.
I'm giving it 5 for the coffee but there is really no kitchen to speak of due to space constraint so the food is quite basic. Perfect for the light meal, I like the smashed avo or a chicken flat bread.
Jarrod Kane
This is a nice place. The coffee here is great as the previous reviews have illuded to. The food is also good. Price is good. Everything is good to be honest!!!!!!

Omar serves and roasts fantastic coffee, with a really cool interior decor. Sliding tables make it very easy to arrange to suit groups 😊 the patisserie goods are super yum also! Service is always friendly.
Aaaaaandy
Fantastic place! After reading other reviews I decided to check it out. A couple of people complained that the lattes were not served in a glass, but in a ceramic cup instead. Get over it. These guys knows their stuff. Amazing Bircher and chicken flat bread or if you feel like a bit of a cheat day, go the Welsh Rarebit. Possibly the best thing ever. Highly recommend this place!

I was looking for somewhere to eat via Zomato. Then noticed this cafe is "known for good coffee no comprimises." Hmmm possibly setting themselves up for a big fall.

The rating also very high. So lets go and see shall we. We enter to the smell of coffee. The waiter shows us where they roast the coffee beans on sight. That's it, I'm sold! I ordered the single origin espresso. And, damn! They werent lying, I begin to send my thanks to the coffee Gods for this place.

Where was I? Ah yes, to eat my husband ordered the smashed avocado, porridge for my toddler and the tuna melt for me. Whilst waiting for food, our daughter was given something to play with, the waiter lavished her with attention and so were we.

Then came the food. Looks good, can't wait to get into this. The first bite, my husband instantly exclaimed "Oh Yum!" My daughter, "Yummy!" Me, "Oh Yum!". Then several yums repeated by all, followed by content silence as we merrily consumed what can be only descibed as joy on a plate.

Finally came the bill. The gods had reappeared, it didn't us cost a fortune, actually it was less than usual. Not that I'm focusing on that. I'm still stuck on "Yum".

YUM, YUM, YUM

How could I give anything but a 5?
- amazing food - all 3 of us had great dishes with fresh, beautiful flavours and textures
- amazing coffee - both for cappuccino lovers and espresso connoisseurs (single origin today best I've had ever)
- lively, personalised, friendly service
- they roast their own coffee beans

They don't serve eggs, but given what they did provide, I don't care.

We'll be back.
Rosa
New Year's Day started well this morning with a fabulous breakfast outside at Omar. Love the muesli and chai. My companions at the avocado smash and the buffalo / captures breakfast. Ingredients so fresh and tasty. Well worth the visit.
Dan
The coffee and gourmet sandwich specialists. Always pretty busy and it's not hard to know why once you sample the menu. You can get great food and coffee in lots of establishments these days so I usually judge them by the amiable personalities of the staff and owners and like any of my other favourite places, the people create an energy that keeps me coming back.

Best coffee and service in the world!!

Friendly staff & some excellent coffee. Food is a bit over priced but the coffee is well worth it. The smashed avocado with feta is my favourite dish
Skye Peck
Super friendly staff, great coffee and a warm and inviting atmosphere. I had the smashed avo with smoked salmon - simple, yummy and served with a smile!
Emmmma Llove Food
Definitely nice coffee here. Even though they don't do single origin latte, but the latte (with standard beans) still taste awesome.

Their food menu seems quite simple compared to the other cafés, but the simplicity won't let you down at all. Have ordered Welsh melt, it's exactly the flavour you want on melt. Well balance on melt cheese and rocket.
Wwy
Although they have a rather limited menu, the food is good and the coffee decent. Very busy on the weekends but out server was very friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is relaxed, decor very rustic and barn inspired. Lots of kids and parents.
FoodHedonist
Non pretentious good food and coffee.

I ordered the prosciutto roll with buffalo Mozzarella; the flavours were well balanced and ingredients were the right amount, not too less or too much. The roll was well toasted too.
I enjoyed my brunch. This place is like an oasis in a desert.

This is a gem.....
It's been around for years and still as strong as it was from the start.
The is brilliant, never had a cup that was not as good as the last.
The passion the staff along with management have is clear.
Food offering is clean and we'll done, not a substantial offering but it's what you need to tuck into and hit one of Melbourne's best coffee spots....
Rachel Maas
The menu is simple and hit the spot - the two dishes we had were just incredible. The mushroom cheese melt on toast, balsamic glaze & fontina cheese against the well sautéed mushrooms was tasty as hell. And the pork belly roll had a slaw with an inspired accent of mint leaves that lifted it to new heights. I highly recommend these delicious dishes.

Staff are very friendly and accommodating. Have ordered a few takeaway coffees, and they are always made quickly and always good! Need to try out the food next time!

Not impressed. Went on the basis of high reviews. Don't bother. We asked for a latte and was told it came only porcelain cups??? No eggs on the menu for breakfast??? No sweeteners for coffee???

My long black tasted bold and flavoursome, which Is how I like it. but my gf's soy latte was undrinkable... Not sure if they use Bonsoy or if you have to ask for Bonsoy, but please, always use Bonsoy... If this soy latte did have Bonsoy. We have a bigger problem.

Artisan roasters indeed. It's clear that Omars are the master of their own bean. Beautifully brewed, rich, full-bodied with a dark chocolate undertone, served at perfect temperature. The coffee here alone negates having to review much else, but the food, while limited, is of decent quality and the pseudo industrial decor of the roastery/cafe is chic, with metal tables that move on a set of tracks that extend from indoors to the small outdoor courtyard at the back. It's hard to fault Omars, and rather than thinking more about it, I'm going to go order another coffee.
Olive
Amazing coffee but the menu needs more variation, there wasn't much of a choice food wise. The layout and vibes are awesome and so was the service with friendly staff.

Coffee coffee coffee. Magnificent coffee, Melbourne take note

One of the things that I really don’t like doing is servicing my car. When I bought my car, I signed up to a deal where if I service it once a year, I can get extended warranty on it for free. When I hear I get anything for free, I always get sucked in, that’s the way of being Chinese. But little did I think about just how far it is from my house. I now live in Doncaster. To get to Brighton which is where the car dealer is, I must drive for about 45 minutes to get there and you can’t be late because each person only gets 15 minutes to get booked in. After the car is in, I then have to wait for a further 1 hour or more before it’s done. It doesn’t sound like a good deal to me now. Thankfully, there’s always the option of having brunch nearby afterwards to comfort myself As I walked in I thought to myself “wow, the tables sure are lined up very neatly.” Then when I sat down, the table in front of me started to move by itself! I was shocked. I asked Yuye if he had moved the table to which, of course, the answer was no. It turned out there was a perfectly good explanation for it. The tables are set on wheels and can be pushed left or right at will to put tables together. What a neat idea that is! Except when you have very curious kids with you at brunch because even I could not resist moving them around. Like many cafes these days, Omar also has its own roastery. We sat right next to it and I enjoyed watching the beans being poured in and taken out. My cappuccino sadly didn’t have any art on it but was still a full bodied smooth blend that had a chocolatey lingering finish. Yuye ordered a Tade GG from Ethiopia. It’s said to have sparkling acidity, floral, peach, grape, pear, stone fruit, tea and vanilla hints. I could taste the tea and part stone fruit but not much else. Guess my palate is

The service was good, coffee was great... It would be better if there were eggs on the menu... I found the breakfast options quite 'carby'.. The mushroom melt was very tasty ... The salmon dish and the mozzarella flatbread were not stand outs...would come back for s coffee but not breakfast

I had a Pork Belly sandwich with coleslaw and apple sauce. I love it when it falls apart when you eat it and the crackling was just perfect...

Service is generally great and staff are always jovial – often joking and interacting with each other.
Blogocado Mash
After hearing excellent reviews about Omar we knew we had to give this cafe a shot. So off we ventured out to Gardenvale. When reading the menu we were pretty excited, with so many different additions we couldn’t help but get our hopes up that this mash would have the AVO factor. Omar describes their mash as ‘caper and labneh smashed avocado with chilli and lemon on sourdough toast’ with an optional serving of smoked salmon for an additional $5. We decided to get the works and test this bad boy out. This dish had some admirable aspects such as its’ presentation, avo quality and a range of additions to accompany it. Unfortunately, we found the capers to be extremely overpowering and impossible to remove from the mash. The labneh provided a nice touch, yet the smoothness of the mash combined with the labneh made the mash too creamy for our palette. All together we decided that this mash scored a 6/10 and perha

Omar owners Andrew Gelman and Dean Atkins hate being called ‘baristas’ – they just make coffee and that’s it. While these guys do take the black stuff very seriously (just get Andy talking about their plans for a temperature-controlled fridge to store their prized beans), they’re happy to skip the fanfare. It sure makes for a nice change from those too-cool-for-school places that colonise Melbourne’s cafe scene. All that’s fussy about this place is the name. You’ll find Omar off the Nepean Highway on a quiet street with not much else going for it. The staff are as friendly as they come and the interior is simple and spacious. (FYI, the coffee bags suspended above the counter are just for looks – heat rises and coffee doesn’t keep well at higher temperatures, people.) There’s no separate kitchen on site, so the food menu equals dishes made from quality ingredients that can be assembled in a jiffy. Munch on bircher muesli with berry compote, honey yoghurt, toasted almonds and fruit for b

I feel awkward about their logo. But thats the only awkwardness about this whole thing. Their interiors are awesome. The tables can be wheeled along this track thingee-magig. Which I really should have photographed, but thats another thing which is awkward to me

Impressed. I come here every now and then to get myself a soy latte and I quite enjoy the vibe. I get the impression that everyone is switched on and knows what they are doing.

I'm not the biggest fan of the soy milk they use (maybe pure harvest?), however all the barristas that have made my coffee make it taste just fine which is testament to their skill.

Okay food, smart aleck waiter!!. We visited today as the coffee bird promoted gluten free - as it turned out only gluten free bread was offered - I would hardly call that gluten free friendly. We also had the misfortune of being served by a smart aleck waiter who, when asked a few reasonable questions i.e. I'm gluten free and fructose intolerant what can you offer, he only had smart, rude answers. When I asked for a latte in a cup - not a glass - he said I should order a latte, which I said, I have but not in a glass, so he replied - well just order a latte, needless to say there was more smart aleck responses. In hindsight we should have just walked out and got the standard bog standard sandwich, which they serve, somewhere else, I'm sure that would have been a much more pleasant experience. We won't be returning and I wouldn't recommend the coffee shop

Championship front of house. Wit and banter for days. Menu simple but slammin. Awesome beans. Can't wait to come back.

What Omar does Omar does exceptionally. This is my local-

I travel 10 mins in the wrong direction to work to drink their beautifully extracted espresso.

I'll often have a dine in espresso and take away long black, both of which are stunning, every time! Their filter coffee offering is the best I've come across and being roasters their knowledge base is expansive and they always have the time to guide you on your preferred method of home brewing.

When I have time, I love the bircher at Omars and my girlfriend will often get the smashed avo with smoked salmon. The food is always exceptionally fresh and I like that they have kept their menu deliberately brief(isn) so as they absolutely nail every item every time!

Thanks Omar, you marvellous coffee bird!

Good if you don't drink soy & don't mind paying top $$ for basic staples like porridge. Had the porridge which was shockingly bland and tasteless. Also had fruit toast which is over priced.
I can see it convenient with the locals

I really wanted to like this place, as i live so close to it, and have given it multiple chances. The lattes are very milky, and when I asked for a strong latte, it always taste exactly the same as a normal latte. Only to realise they just write strong latte on the lid, and use the double shot filter for a normal latte or a strong latte. When I asked for it stronger, there reply was we can put less milk in it, or if you want a extra shot it would cost me double the cost of the latte!!! What a joke!!!! Tasteless coffee with arrogant baristas.

Seriously good coffee. Had 2 strong lattes and was tempted to put up with the shakes and go a 3rd. Great service, nice fit out and good food.

My macchiato was unimpressive, but they knocked the food out of the park! I highly recommend the smashed avocado with capers and chilli - world rocking!

Can you fall in love with coffee?. Absolutely you can! The coffee at Omar's is by far my favourite - ever! I drive in completely the opposite direction just to get a coffee here each morning. And Omar's has been my 'office' from time to time - great coffee, free WiFi and a cool/ industrial interior! What's not to like?

Marvellous Coffee. Incredible single origin espresso. I had a Kenyan coffee as well, which they brew with a Clever. Clever is usually not my favourite, but they clearly had perfected their brew recipe, and it blew me away. The food was also outstanding, and the staff was happy to chat about coffee, travels, and the cafe. I will definitely be back.

Coffee. Used to do reasonable coffee. Tried it twice in the last couple of weeks - it was tasteless. Won't be back until they sort it.

Delicious. Each time I get a coffee at Omar, often a take-away, it is quick and always delicious! They never let me down and the staff are always pleasant! The food is great, worth trying the flat-breads and the smashed avocado.

Seriously disappointed with the coffee and service at this place. Ordered a soy latte that came out weak and watery and was told "that's just the way we make it, if you want it strong you have order. A 3/4 latte". Well I don't usually have strong coffee but had no choice and ordered the "3/4 latte" which was a normal coffee but only 3/4 the size of a normal cup and BITTER! So I gritted my teeth. Then came ordering meals - I ordered the beans with labneh, avocado and sourdough. The waiter said "that's a great dish, I love it with smashed avocado". I nodded and said "oh thats nice" but did not commit to ordering smashed avocado (why would I? The dish already came with avocado) but when the food came there was extra avocado. The waiter was gracious and said sorry about the extra avocado. But when we went to pay I was made to feel like a liar as the owner asked me to repeat the whole conversation again and even said that it sounded like I had ordered extra avocado. Grr! Not going back.

Marvellous Brunch. We ventured out this morning for brunch at Omar's and were pleased we did. It was warm and inviting with a warehouse feel. The tables are set on miniature tracks and there is a huge coffee roaster off to one side but the cafe is quite small and also quite cluttered with sacks of coffee beans, an old espresso machine, ladders and other bits and pieces lying around.

Omar's boasts of great coffee and it certainly lives up to its name. Two cappuccinos later and still wanting more...

We tried two different variations of the flat bread. One was the classic ham, cheese and smashed avocado, (very tasty!) the other was olives, mozzarella, avocado, tomato and red onion (quite appetising.)
We also had a Turkish-type roll filled with red onion, avocado, tomato and smoked bacon which was divine!! Our order of mozzarella, tomato and rocket on sourdough was unsatisfactory. How it is presented is not quite what you'd imagine from the menu description, although we were plenty full from the other items, it didn't matter so much.

One thing is for certain, the food and produce here is very fresh and wholesome.

Delicious coffee. Lovely little warehouse cafe, with delicious coffee, potentially a bit weak but it could just be a one off. I love the tables on mini train tracks, fantastic idea!
