This place is off the charts. Best burger I have eaten, and I have eaten a lot of burgers.
Been here only a few times, but always have an awesome night. Cosy restaurant with awesome music (perhaps a tad too loud for the size, but it's great hip hop/rnb so it's allowed) great tasting food and options, with accommodating and timely service from friendly staff. Would recommend for dates and double dates, or just social gatherings!
Just had lunch here, possibly the best customer service i have experienced in Melbourne. Shout out to our server Hamish, he had mad knowledge of the menu, including food pairing and tasting notes of all the food. Definitely coming back. Burgers were awesome too.
Lovely place to dine in, Or take away. Great food & great staff. Simply the best! Burger joint around love the Fries too.. Would definitely go back again. Prices are reasonable. You never leave the Canteen hungery ❤❤❤❤❤
This place is legit. Good times, epic food and great value.
Friendly staff and great food are an ever successful combination.
My recommendation is the BBQ Bacon Burger with a side of chips and drink of your choice. Not the healthiest meal, but definitely food for the soul, no regrets about it.
The BEST veggie burger I have ever eaten - cool music & decor, awesome staff, great boutique beers and the best burgers you're ever gonna hav the pleasure of demolishing! We will be back!
The best burgers, AWESOME staff, cool vibe and atmosphere...I never drive past and not stop in
Keep up the great work guys \m/
FINALLY got to wrap my mouth around one of these delicious burgers, and it did not disappoint!!
Excellent customer service, great atmosphere, mouth-watering food and the hot sauce! Best I've ever had! Definitely worth the trip from the north side and they can count on me to be back again.
Warning!! Wear stretchy pants, because you won't want to stop eating. YUM!
Best burger. Period. This review must be 40 characters long so I am literally typing this sentence just to be able to submit it.
Great burger joint in Elsternwick - love the vibe and the friendly service. Onto the food, menu showcases smoked, pickled and fried goodness, my particular favourites have to be the truffle mushroom burger, watermelon, Mac and cheese bites as well as the fried chicken! Highly recommend visiting and trying their deliciousness.
Tom I have been driving past your restaurant many times with the intentions of calling in one day. It wasn’t till I had your sister Charlotte in my Uber that we got talking and in our conversation we got talking about your restaurant hence now I know your name. Yesterday I was in the area and was hungry so bingo I decided to call into your restaurant. I didn’t have time to sit in but I ordered a Ruben Burger. Wow I was so surprised about the size of the burger and how well it really tasted. From Charlotte she told me you smoke your own meat and make your own pickles. Hence now I see why you call it Smoke & Pickles. I took a loyalty card and I don’t think it will take me long to fill it up. Your front of house guy is excellent and the atmosphere was great. Good to see a Vegan option as well. Hope to meet you next time I come in to your restaurant. Since visiting restaurant I have started to tell some of my Uber passengers about your restaurant I hope they visit your restaurant and I will keep promoting it as word of mouth is the best form of advertising. ZOMATO YOU NEED TO LET REVIEWS TO GO TO 10 STARS AS THIS RESTAURANT DESERVES IT. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Every time I come here I am never disappointed. The food is always so delicious with lots of hot sauce to pick from. Staff are always friendly too.
Very good overall experience. The fries were huge and probably the highlight. The fried chicken burger was nice. The chili cheese burger was good without being amazing. Very good without being amazing.
The burgers are great and I love the variety on the menu. The poppers and potato gems are amazing as well. I would like it better if the truffle flavour is stronger on the potato gems 💎
Yum yum yum! Came here a little while back. I had the chipotle chicken burger which I really enjoyed. The chicken batter was irresistibly light and crispy. Everything went really well together, but I think I'd prefer plain onions over pickled.
We also had their $1 chicken ribs which were bigger than expected and were so good, the best crunch to it with a light touch of saltiness.
Nice touch of sauce choices on the table also and the staff were friendly. Writing this review right now is making my crave the chicken ribs and chicken patty.
The burgers are definitely better at @smokeandpickles Known for their burgers and amazing range of hot sauces. Located on the busy strip of Glen Eira Road and is popular amongst the locals. The burgers here are made with Japanese-style milk buns which make it very soft and light. We tried their new vegan range and was very impressed. Started off with the amazing sides boston pickles and watermelon which were very refreshing and they complements the burgers really well.
A burger meal is never complete without fries so we decided to go all in and have potato gems, fries and vegan fried chicken. If you are a fan of truffle, the potato gems is definitely not to be missed as the sauce is amazing. The fries were seasoned really well and we loved the bbq flavors. The vegan fried chicken as the textures were really nice and flavors were good too. Moved on to the vegan burgers and we really loved it, the textures of the bun was amazing and it brought it to a whole new level. Made even better when you pair them with the amazing range of hot sauce. **Warning** The Caroline Reaper is very spicy, only have it if you can really handle very spicy. The bbq sauces were really good. They do have a cocktails list and we went with the Mandarin Spritz and Charred margarita and really liked it. The Mandarin Spritz was very light and refreshing and was perfect after a meal.
Zach and the team was really lovely and we really had a feast! Be sure to visit them if you love good burgers and chips and definitely check out their cocktail ranges as well.

We had a great experience at Smoke and Pickles! Zach and the team looked after us well.
We got to try some of the new vegan options, plus some hot sauce and we were NOT disappointed!!
We tried a couple of drink specials including a BLACK margarita and a refreshing Spritz. We ended up ordering a LOT of food, so took some home to eat later. We tried:
Truffle potato gems, Boston Pickles, Pickled Watermelon, Fries, Vegan Chicken and vegan burger!
It was such a tasty spread! The Pickles and Watermelon were the perfect refreshing addition to the spicy hot sauce we were dipping our chips in haha! I would def recommend those potato gems, and the fries were seasoned with a delicious smokey taste! The burger was great, with a soft bun and tasty vegan mayo. The vegan chicken was my FAVE!! The coating was so crunchy and flavourful, and the 'meat' inside was tender and yum!!
So happy to see lots of delicious plant based options, along with all the usual menu items. Would definitely go back for that Vegan Chicken and all those amazing sides!!
Sitting next to a full length window with natural light was such a great start to my day.
Ordered:
🍔 Japanese Fried Chicken: kaarage fried chicken, snow peas slaw, miso mayo and mustard greens ($13.00)
🍟 Zucchini chips: with bbq seasoning ($6.00)
Review:
The zucchini chips were amazing! I've never had anything like it. Flavourful, crispy, and with a generous dose of bbq seasoning, this packs a punch.
The burger is one of Smoke & Pickles' top sellers. Miso mayo is interesting, and the burger bun was fluffy. What made it even better was the 4 hot sauce selection they have on your table. Adding your chosen level of death rly adds a spiciness to the meal 🤤.
Their interior was really fun, with star wars art, crates on walls, and the service was friendly and great. Really enjoyed my time at Smoke & Pickles!
I can't speak highly enough of this place. I can tell an inspired venture when I see one and this is one of them. Best meal I have had in Australia for $10 in the lunchbox deal and the truffle burger is a one of a kind, original pleasure, haven't had a burger like it anywhere. Staff are friendly and down to earth and they play good music to top it all off. They deliver in what they set out to achieve and haven't let me down yet, making a ritual of it to visit them on Fridays.
Juicy burger, fresh pickle, crispy ribs. Chill vibe. The sauce option are interesting. Especially the BBQ Reaper. This place should be more popular!
We were invited by some foodie friends to try out Smoke and Pickles and had a feast!
We had nibbled bits and pieces of the food such as the zucchini fritters, chicken wings, burger, etc! the patties were pretty juicy looking and flavors were pretty good!
Would go back to try other burgers!
This burger is NEXT LEVEL. Imagine a Rueben sandwich. Then put it IN BURGER FORM. You’re welcome 😉 with the incredible house smoked pastrami and a sauce that has me drooling, you guys have *got* to try this!! Add to that, their incredible deep fried cheese and home made hot sauces, this place is right up my alley! 🥵
Awesome service. They really looked after our group and recommended a few things to try. Got the double cheese burger and Jalapeno peppers which were good.
Have heard good things about this place so had to try it out. Just ordered the cheeseburger with extra lettuce tomato and bacon and wow it was pretty good. We also ordered the jalapeño poppers and some fries both were really good will definitely be going back for more.
I have been coming here for last few years since it opened. Tom and his team at S&P (formerly known as Changz Canteen) know food and how to make it seriously delicious and of consistent high quality with their own unique twist. From homemade sauces to fresh pickled veggies, this place is a must try! Having gluten free, vegan and vegetarian options also makes it easy for the modern day foodie. I personally am addicted to the truffle mushroom burger (in lettuce wrap) - the enoki fries and sauces in this one are just out of this world and are not like any other burger I’ve ever tried. The biggest hero of this place for me is the jalapeño poppers - I’ve tried a lot in my time, but the ones you can get here are by far the best, smoked to perfection every time! Thanks for the hospitality as always guys! :)
Went here for the first time tonight and loved it. The cheeseburgers were delicious and juicy, the service was great and best of all it was a very good size for a reasonable price. Definitely gives the tuck shop a bit of healthy competition. We will be back
The burgers at Changz Canteen certainly lived up to our expectations, but their sauces were simply next level. If for nothing else, stop by for the sauceeeee!
Changz Canteen soon to be re-branded to Smoke & Pickles in the next few weeks situated in Glen Eira Road, Elsternwick. Easy access to public transport being located in Elsternwick as one of the most popular South Eastern Suburbs; If you travel with private vehicles, there are plenty on the street car parks.
Great cheeseburger, next time the simple rather than the double will be enough. Unfortunately there was terrible lighting.. makes you feel ill as you’re eating :(
Second time at Changz and it’s awesome!! Friendly waitress fantastic food what more do you want? Bonus on the Star Wars theme guys you rock. Try the mushroom ketchup
Best burgers in Melbourne for sure. Small seating area but it’s perfect for catching up with friends. Their sauces, doubles the taste. Not sure about the sides but can’t go wrong with shoestring chips !
Best burger in Melbourne. Gets the Gina Falco tick of approval every day of the week, especially Sunday cause falco is always hungover and $1 ribs BABY!
First time checking out Changz. The burgers were fantastic. The menu had a large variety with so many great options as well as a specials board with even more choices, making a hard decision even harder! Ended up settling with The Rueben burger, The Korean Bbq burger and the Truffle and Mushroom burger. All the meat was cooked perfectly and flavours were exceptional. Our pick of the bunch was the Truffle and Mushroom burger, they nailed the balance of mushroom and truffle flavour. Truffle can often be very rich but these guys have got it just right.
The twice cooked pork belly in the Korean bbq burger melted in your mouth and the kimchi added a true Korean sweet/spice combo. Our only knock was that the bun wasn’t great, airy and not the freshest. Easily overlooked, we will definitely return to try all the other tantalising burgers.
These burgers will set you back around $15-20 each which is probably pretty standard for the area.

Was lucky enough to be invited to Changz Canteen to try the special ‘Reuben Burger’ and also picked up the ‘Truffle Mushroom Burger’ while we were there. Thoroughly enjoyed both burgs and very impressed by the flavours contained within each. The Reuben burger definitely reinvented the flavours of the original sandwich, the sauerkraut and hunk of pastrami melding perfectly with the charred-ness of the beef patty. The flavours of the truffle mushroom were also in abundance, a burg which just melted in your mouth.
Possibly the best burger I have ever eaten! Think it was called the Reuben and it was a special so get down and get it while it lasts! Every time these guys deliver great food, never had a bad burger. Jalapeno poppers were to die for.
To be honest there was nothing wrong with my visit to Changz Canteen in Elsternwick! This was their current special 'The Reuben Burger'.
I'm not going to lie, but their fried chicken was legit! It was a crispy deep fried chicken thigh that closely resembled the ones I've had in Japan and man they were juicy! The beef patties were cooked medium/pink and had a nice slice of melted cheese on there. The implementation of fresh horseradish was out of this world, as it added a kick and a hint of acidity/freshness to the burger that took it to another level!
The House smoked pastrami was insane and if it's still around I would definitely recommend it!
Highly recommend the BBQ bacon burger, it was packed with flavour and so juicy. I wasn’t as big a fan of the southern fried chicken burger, just needed more of a kick to it. The bbq seasoned fries...wow, they were my absolute favourite!! A must order. And we also ordered the jalapeño poppers which were wrapped in bacon and had a delicious smoked flavour. Decent burger joint all in all.
A good solid burger @ 3.5*. The bun was soft and not too sweet. The burger patty was tasty and juicy although not as thick as I would have liked (next time I will order a double patty). The spicy chips were excellent. Thin perfectly cooked French fries with a dusting of mild chilli salt. Good enough to lift the rating to 4*
The lunch box is pretty worth, not to far from Monash uni~ after class plz come here and try it, better than restaurants near uni hhhhhhhhhh
Burgers are fantastic. Good vego options too. Homemade pickles are to die for. Same with the Chili spice on the chips.
Great front area to sit on a sunny day for a session
Came here for the first time this week, this place is fantastic!
Had the Mushroom and Truffle burger which is life changing - burger cooked to perfection, and the sauces were amazing. I definitely recommend it!
They also have some insanely delicious appetisers - very quirky and different, and a delicious combination of flavours.
Service was great and everything came out quickly.
The ambience is edgy and cool, a great littler burger bar. Will definitely be back!
The best burger I have ever eaten!
Truffle burger is where it’s at!
Service was impeccable and staff honestly top off the experience.
Also, go halves in the burger so you can try the sides! You have never had fried chicken like this before!
First time in my life I ordered a burger which had both chicken and beef. Weirdly it turned out to be a good combination. I had the canteen special with beer and fries combo. All up $25 which is decent. Just the burger is for $18 which is on the expensive side but it is HUGEEEEE. Not sure how I finished it. Their special sauce makes the burger taste really good. The bun was average however everything else was fantastic. Their patty is medium rare so a bit pink which I think was great. They have various sauce to have your chips with and I absolutely loved it. A great neighbourhood burger place, just perfect for those cravings or hangover cure.
Got a burger and fries delivered.
Tasted just like McDonald’s - which in my books is not a bad thing.
Slightly too much onion.
Would order again
Came in for the $10 lunch special. I was surprised at the size of the burger...bigger than expected. Not anywhere near the quality of the truffle burger but a great price if you are on a budget.
(Tuesday 19/9/2017)
Visited this place because we were craving for some burger meal.
My friend and I ordered their Canteen Classic in a meal combo, including chips and a furphy, for a price of $25. I would say that’s decent.
When our food arrived, the burger was huge and served with thin chips. The patty was amazingly well cooked (medium rare), and their add on fried chicken breast was nice, even their canteen classic sauce was spot on. Our partners ordered the classic cheeseburger and Truffle & Mushroom burger. They both enjoyed it and gave thumbs up.
The highlight for me was their homemade hot sauce, my absolute favourite was the “Chipotle” and “Red Habanero”. It goes well with everything, from chips to burger.
Will definitely be back for more.
I quite enjoyed this little place. The burgers were really nice and reasonably priced. We had the chicken burger and a cheese burger, both really yummy, but A LOT of bun! I like that the beef patty was cooked medium-rare.
I came here last night for a double date. Arriving early my boyfriend and I had a fireball and coke each (our favourite alcohol so bonus points there). The staff were lovely and friendly, cracking jokes of being hungry while waiting and we were as the food smells amazing. When we ordered I asked about the chips and the waitress was so helpful in telling me the different flavours. And the food! My god the veg burger is the best vegetarian burger I've had in my vegetarian life. Get it with cheese. Additionally the music here is great, as is the decor.
I'll be coming back!
Great looking place, excellent customer service and great food. We started with the chicken ribs. Very hot, greasy but tasty. No plates or bowls for the bones though! We then had a cheeseburger and bacon burger- both delicious and messy! The serving of fries is huge - one will do a few people. Overall, a great experience and will go back!...
Good burger joint up on glen Eira road. They have a secret sauce for their burgers so ask about that if you've got allergies or are fussy with condiments. Burgers were quite tasty, serving size of fries was too large for two to finish, however they were a bit too salty for our liking. They also had $1 chicken ribs on a Sunday.
Great little owner run burger restaurant. Food was fresh and delicious with some unique menu option and house brand sauces making a nice change. Great ambience and friendly staff made for a lovely evening.
This place is yum. The burger I had was absolutely delicious and those chips!!! Will definitely be back. Only criticism is the atmosphere. It's way too cold in this place. No one is going to want to stay and have a few drinks if they are not comfortable or warm. Turn that heater on!
Had a couple of yummy cheeseburgers and a HUGE box of fries. Really generous serve. Urban feel in the restaurant but we had take away. Ordered on the phone and was ready in 5 minutes.
I've never given 5/5 but ladies and gentlemen, here it is. Absolutely sensational dude food, with genuinely happy, easy, knowledgeable service. Smoked chicken wings had a lovely sweet rub, served with delicious pickled veg and to die for blue cheese dipping sauce. Jalapeno poppers we're sinful, and the cheeseburger was bang on with perfectly pink meat and that classic taste pickled onion cheese flavour that reminds you of what Maccas was when you were a kid. Hats off to the crew, delicious to the max with happy vibes.
Amazing truffle burger, can't believe it's only $18.amazing truffle flavour. Arrived hot and steamy. Love this place. Soft shell crab was lightly battered with a great, homemade sauce.
A long time ago (last week), in a predominately Jewish suburb not so far away …. . The Dear Luncher was going into Tosche Station to pick up some power converters, but instead he visited Changz Canteen. The Dear Luncher’s vehicle made the Glen Eira Road run in less than 12 parsecs.

Have ordered via UberEATS and ate in store and service is always great, particularly the guys in store, super friendly and chilled, really relaxed vibe. Food is always top notch and decently priced too. You can go simple or crazy with the burgers, the choice is yours! Pro tip: the chicken bricks are ace!
Decent burgers and decent beers! Staff were the perfect level of friendly and helpful. I'm jealous it's not in my neighbourhood, I can definitely see it becoming a regular spot if I lived a lot closer.
The fact that I came here with a Scoopon voucher is relevant to part of my review. We walked in and notified the waiter that we will be using the voucher and asked which burgers we could order. Given the choice of beef, chicken and vegetarian, we chose the first two. Being a believer that gluttony is not a sin, we added the pork fries, chicken ribs, a boozy root beer float and an alcoholic apple crumble tea to our meal. When we went to pay, the waiter must have forgotten our earlier conversation and charged us the full amount for the burgers. Upon notifying him that we have a voucher, he amended the order but not before chastising us for not mentioning it beforehand. Dude! We did! Otherwise why would you only gave us 3 types of burgers to choose from and jokingly said "2 vego burgers" when we said "1 beef and 1 chicken". But I did not kick up a fuss regarding his attitude. Why? He was super engaging and friendly when we came in, attentive to all the customers' needs and has an awesome sense of humour (when he asked where to set down the pork fries, we said anywhere and he balanced it on the spout of the bottle of water). He is a hard worker who takes and deliver orders, cleans up tables and managed to sit down with each customer and chat with them. Lesson in life? When you make a good first impression and do your job well, you earn a free pass and it becomes easier for others to let one minor issue slide. That and the fact that the food was delicious helped too. The super crunchy and salty pork fries is the perfect alternative to fries and a great accompaniment to alcohol. The combination of black sesame seeds and mayo on the crispy and moist chicken ribs had us licking our fingers cleaned. Continuing the trend of delish food was the beef burger. The bun was soft and fluffy, and the patty was tender and juicy. The only letdown was the chicken burger. The chicken was succulent but the overall taste was dull and lacking in flavour. My partner was going to rate this place a 5 but that was before he tried the chicken burger. Despite that, before we even finished our meal, he asked "when are we returning?". Save to say that someone was very impressed with his dinner.
As the reviewer said before, their burger was okay, not that special and i ordered their chicken wings, the mayo with black sesame was good but the deep dried chicken wing itself was damn salty, but what special was their service, they are very enthusiastic, warm and friendly guys, we had the food for take away, and they even asked y we didnt just eat there since its so warm outside but very cooling inside, but too bad that we'v juz eaten so we didnt eat there. Overall good, will try their pork belly next time ^^
DAMMIT JANET I LOVE FOOD
+3.5
Solid burgers, enthusiastic staff, awesome Star Wars decor. Burger joints are a dime a dozen these days in Melbourne, and although nothing we tried was phenomenal, I really hope that these guys make it.
Beautiful!!!!, great burger, patties has the old school taste though the bun and sauce make it twenty first century. Strongly recommend the cheeses burger and add lecture. Try the chips with the special sauce and tomato (not your usual) Great service, I felt like I was at a mates place. Will definitely be coming back here.
(Some of my photos of the artwork on the walls have been removed)
Good burgers and good atmosphere. Josh and Tom have done a great job with this place. The room is happy, and lively. The staff members are passionate about their work and their venue - a great culture. The surroundings are a combination of street art and Star Wars - done very tastefully which includes a giant stencil (think Banksy). Josh and Tom started making their own hot sauce about 12-18 months ago - all sauces are available with the meal, and to purchase by the bottle.
@The Burger@
We ordered the cheeseburger, which had beef, cheese, pickles, and awesome sauce. For a little extra, we added tomato and lettuce.
Meat: perfect! Very fresh ground beef, cooked medium.
Salad: fresh and tasty - I recommend adding salad
Sauce: the best sauce I've tasted at a burger place. If you like Big Mac sauce (which is very different but just to give you an idea) you'll love this sauce.
I give Changez a 4/5. I've added pictures of their artwork as well as the food (they were both awesome!).
Changz, if only I'd known about you sooner! The food here is AMAZING. Cooked quickly and great service. The Burgers are packed full of fantastic flavours. The aioli is packed full of garlic! Such a dream to eat, not to mention the prices are great too. Will be coming again to sample more of your wonderful food and bringing others!
I don't normally make reviews online but I felt compelled to post one for ChangzI love my burgers and I have tried many many, many burgers. This now my number 1 burger place in Australia. I was here 3 days in a row!!! I actually feel like I need to go back asap!Don't expect gourmet/healthy burgers here. If your into American style messy juicy burgers this is for you. The beef patties are mouthwatering juicy and beautifully pink in the middle, perfectly cooked. If you go to any American burger place, the benchmark is always set by the classic cheeseburger. I ordered the Double cheeseburger with the optional apple smoked bacon. This was absolutely amazing and by far the best cheeseburger I have ever had. This set the scene for what was to come in my next 2 visits. The Truffle and mushroom burger is OUT OF THIS WORLD! Contains no lettuce or pickles It works beautifully with its ingredients. Consider ordering some Boston pickles to nibble in between if you need some greens. The Classic burger was a good combination of the beef Pattie and chicken brick. This is their Saturday burger Special and with a great price of $20 with fries and drink it is good value.Sunday I came back for the $1 ribs and of course more burger! The ribs flavour was great, especially if you pour some home made habanero or chipotle sauces over them and your fries. However I found the ribs waay to oily. I ordered 10 ribs and by the end there was a puddle of oil left in my basket. Regardless im not here for ribs or fries. The burgers are the main attraction.Cant wait to go back, thanks Changz

I wish I didn't live so far away from Changz so I could visit more frequently. They do a ripper chicken patty. It's a bit different to what I'm used to. It's more like a brick, it's different but the coating they use is phenomenal. The beef is right on point too.
Not sure why this place has got many average reviews. It's great.
Always has specials and the food is always great. Best part about it is that they're on ubereats.
Great food and it's not that pricey. Never can go wrong eating here.
Special mention for their hot sauces, always on point.
Guy's, where have you been?....hiding!? We rolled up and got the treatment. Felt like we entered hospitality heaven (all that was missing was the back massage) music has a mesmerizing beat, if the burgers are of the same standard, we're looking at a 5.5. Outstanding!!!
I had the single cheeseburger. Amazing flavour. Very flavoursome beef. Delicious special sauce. Nice big bun that doesn't disappear while eating it.
Its beauty is in its simplicity. I just wish it were a tad warmer.
I also had the spicy fried chicken ribs. Stunning. Pair with the Green Jalapeño or Red Habanero sauces and you're on a journey to Flavourhalla.
Look I am not the best to ask on this place as I am over the American Burger craze but I will give my 2 cents. The staff very friendly, the produce fresh. Beers and wine cheap. Value for money good. But all round just missed the wow factor... but I would say give it a try.
Had the mushroom truffle burger - pretty good! Their habanero sauce is legit spicy and shoestring fries were delicious; nicely seasoned. Everyone was eating them non-stop.
Simple & delicious! Have been a fan of these guys from early days & love watching what new stuff they come up with! Fried chicken ribs are to die for & burgers are pretty alright! It's a very small place for the crowd that they draw which can make it seems extremely crowded but their take always are great to!
This place is amazing. Burgers are fresh and so full of flavour. The range of house chilli sauces is awesome. Venue has a great vibe, with nice decor and great music. We'll definitely be back!
Top top burgers, I went for a double beef double cheese with a spicy BBQ sauce,Mayo, onions & side of fries for a reasonable $16. Burgers were pink & very flavoursome & just enough spice to get the tongue dancing. Also add a splash of the chipotle BBQ to your chips for an extra kick. Great food, great price would definately recommend you give it a bash
Went on a windy Sunday for lunch. Got a nice place in the window.
Love the star wars decor inside the place.
We ordered the weekender special each, and 6 chicken ribs.
Ribs came first, crispy, juicy, great tasting. Would say they were 100% perfect. And for $1 each you can't go wrong.
Next came the burgers and chips. Being shoestring chips had to eat them first to avoid them getting cold. Chips were what you would expect.
The burgers were the canteen classic.
The chicken was spot on, possibly a little crispier but still good, beef was good, however the bun could of used some toasting, as it was very sweet and super carby and a toasted crunch would've added that extra texture
Also it felt it lacked some tang to it, don't know if it was lack of jalapenos, pickles or @sauce(definitely could've used sauce on the bottom bun as well as top) but just felt something missing.
No doubt that this place offers very delicious burgers, fries and chicken ribs. The food came out quickly and the service is prompt and friendly. Very reasonable price for what they offer. We will be back for more food!
Oh yum. We had a terrible pizza delivery tonight and were starving so got uber eats to deliver.
Double bacon burger was so damn good - like the bees knees good. Lots of bacon and bacon sauce and BBQ - juiciest patties I've ever had.
Chicken burger a bargain - bits of chicken together in a chunky patties and chips thin and crispy.
Pickles I'm always a fan and theirs were great / jerky very chewy too so great as a snack! 5/5
Sneakers – we got some takeaway from Changz which consisted of The Weekender (the Canteen Classic burger, fries & drink), beef jerky, the soft shell crab, and the fried chicken ribs. The burger was pretty good. My first impressions strangely enough took me to Subway and McDonalds respectively due to the jalapenos and pickles. The burgers are large in size with generous beef patties. I feel like I should explain the ‘chicken brick’ as I myself was very curious as to what a chicken brick was, and I can’t find another review that describes it so here goes: the chicken brick is small pieces of cooked chicken formed together with herbs and spices into the shape of a brick (or paver) if you will, which is coated in a Southern fried chicken style coating and deep fried. I found the chicken brick to be delicious and it’s an interesting concept. The fries I found to be slightly lacking in temperature and slightly oversalted, but still tasty nonetheless. The chicken ribs were quite tasty; we had the regular instead of the spicy. They were definitely generous in size and are presented well. Two minor downsides for the chicken ribs though I found were they could do with a bit more seasoning and ours needed to drain off a little bit more after coming out of the fryer. I didn’t try the beef jerky or the crab. I would definitely stop in for more burgers and perhaps some of the spicy chicken ribs next time we’re in the area.
Cassidy – the restaurant itself is not very big, so if you’re looking to eat-in I would suggest booking is a must. Service was prompt and friendly – they even bought it out to us in the car so I didn’t have to sit inside and wait. I wasn’t a fan of the beef jerky – my first piece had no flavour whatsoever, it was like eating rubber. Tried another piece and it just wasn’t for me. The crab was ok, a nice crunchy coating but the lemon flavouring was a bit over powering. However to note I didn’t use the sauce because I know habanero would be too hot for me, so I would suggest perhaps the crab works well with the sauce as intended. I tried a bite of the burger, pretty nice – very big – and it was good to have a bun that wasn’t brioche for once. The winner for me was the fried chicken. Generous sized pieces with a nice crunchy coating. That’s what I’ll be going back for. We were keen to try their Pork Chicharrons aka 'pork belly on steroids' but unfortunately they were sold out for the evening.
