Review White Village Greek Tavern - Elsternwick

Chris Kehl
Was a little disappointed. The venue was extremely noisy and it was hard to hear others. The meals are minimal for the price. I ordered the grilled shrimp and that's all that arrived. Five shrimp for $28. Not sauces or side salad. I could get a kilo of prawns and chuck them under the grill. The prawns had no seasoning I could taste. Apart from this the waitress was a little abrupt, tables were a little small to place meals and drinks on and parking was a nightmare even on a Sunday night. The owner was very welcoming but we won't be back.

What a beautiful and cosy place. Kosta was really friendly to us and our friends for the first time. The food was amazing and kosta was helful with foord and size recommendation. Will come back again soon.

I was looking forward to our night. I had souvlaki which was super tasty. Costa was extremely friendly and inviting. I felt the chairs were very uncomfortable and I know for elderly people they would find them very hard to sit on for a long period of time. I feel that if those prices are going to be charged then there needs to be tweeks made.

Extremely friendly real othentic Greek cuisine excellent food It's a place you go back to

Costa and his wife are lovely people and the food is fantastic I no longer have a girlfriend but get a mixed meat platter for 2 to bring home unbelievable & very reasonable prices

The food was great and Kosta has this warm character that makes the experience much better ... Will definitely go back

Amazing service and absolutely delicious home style food, and generous portions to boot. Highly recommended!!!

Super friendly host, and just the right amount of food on the meat platter for one and the seafood platter for one. Okay quality Greek. #eatglenhuntly

Yum food. Well priced. Great atmosphere. Would love to try more stuff in the future. Chips were poor.

Home style atmosphere with home style cooking. Compared to Oakleigh, you’ll see a lot more on the menu than souvlaki and deserts. Actually, truth be told you probably won’t see a menu because the friendly exceptional marketing team (aka your waiter) will choose your meal for you and throw in every side that might tempt you. Really a fun and fantastic food stop in Suburban Melbourne! Just watch out for the bill.

A very nice homey restaurant. The food is very average. All the grilled food are very dry. Meat are quite tasteless. Not bad, but expected more

Beautiful owners, beautiful food. After struggling to find a Greek tavern that is open for lunch on Sundays I got in contact with the lovely owners of White Village and they were beyond accommodating. Not only were they more than happy to open for our extended family group, but they were flexible with the menu and so helpful. The food was plentiful and packed full of flavour and I cannot recommend the restaurant more highly. Thank you again to White Tavern - our family, including the 60th birthday boy, were very impressed.

Very friendly staff, good food, generous portions. It appeared to be a place where a lot of locals frequent, as the staff were chatting to many of the diners which is always a good sign. Most of the menu can be made gluten free. Would eat here again.

Due to my change of location, I did not frequent this restaurant for many years and I only recently went to have dinner in it. Even if its size and address are slightly different from years ago, the food quality is still excellent (much much better than nearby competitors), the service is good and Costa, the owner and chef, is...a few days older (as all of us, lol) but always tops. The fish is fresh, well prepared and presented, the dips are fresh made and the perfume of the meat is delightful. The amount of salt is good and not excessive, as it often happen in Greek restaurants. The prices are reasonable for what one gets. BYO a bonus. I will certainly go back.  02/11/2018. I am really sorry to have to do this but the truth is important. The quality of primary food and preparation has gone down and the prices went up.????

Lovely authentic Greek restaurant, traditional atmosphere, delicious fresh food, generous serves and very good value for money. The banquet is a must!

My friend and I had a lovely evening. I'll definitely visit agsin.<br/><br/>The staff were very welcoming and accommodating. Food was delicious and came out quickly.

Dined on voucher with four friends. Food was great, service exceptional but to be slugged with a $20 per bottle corkage totally UNACCEPTABLE. Will certainly not return. Surely the whole idea of vouchers is to encourage new customers.......ripping them off is not the way to do it.

Delicious Greek food at this traditional Greek restaurant. Great quality food and you never leave hungry. Classic good old fashion Greek food as its best! Family restaurant very friendly staff.

Visited White Village the other night. I thought I was back in a Greek Town. The atmosphere was electric. When my food arrived at the table I was surprised to see a great variety of dishes. As I took my first taste of the slow cooked lamb, was taken back to Greece. It was flavorsome and very juicy. The service and appreciation from the staff was excellent . I will be back again for sure. Great food service and price.

Great food!! Pickled octopus is a personal favorite. Will definitely be returning. I think some people should consider a night out without getting a cheap scoopon voucher!

My husband and I bought the $49(valued at $129) deal from groupon that was for an 8 course banquet. For starters we had the selection of dips ,saganaki and dolmades. For mains we had meat that was supposed to be slow cooked and calamari and finished off with dessert.I can honestly say we got $49 worth of food and not the $129. The food was small in servings and in most cases either dry or oily. The food was rushed and I can say we both left not wanting to return to this restaurant.

Came to the white village over the weekend. Now it may be funny to others but found the antics of the owner beyond annoying and invasive. The food was poor and not in the Greek spirit of generosity and quality. I'm a fairly laid back individual however buying this Groupon voucher was a huge mistake. I was expecting a good feed . What was dished out was an owner behaving like a court jester instead of concentrating on the quality of food he was serving.Food was dry in particular  the dolmades and vegetables felt that they had been reheated in a microwave. Absolutely no love with this food .Meat extremely poor and cooked far too long as it was to chew. C'mon guys as consumers we have so much choice. What you served to us was poor at best.

Bought a groupon voucher for 6 adults and decided to try the restaurant on Thursday 13 TH October. First time I have bought a deal with Groupon and excited to use the deal.We were greeted by a warm smile however when mentioned the groupon booking things seemed to get funny. We were seated in a crammed area for 6 adults considering the restaurant at 7.30 was extremely quiet  therefore we were seated right at the front. The food however was disappointing. I try to support local business however we were let down. Firstly the food delivered on this night was not enough. 3 men and 3 women, not huge eaters ,however we left feeling fairly hungry. Saganaki was oily and limp, dips were watery. Calamari was oily and hard to eat. The meat was the real let down. Greeks are famous for their meat dishes. What was presented was dry gyros with absolutely no flavour.I could have accepted the small servings if the food was tasty and packed with flavour. Unfortunately what was served was extremely bland food. I know we came on a groupon voucher however we still paid for this food. The wait staff were fine and tried to justify that its a banquet where only small servings are given however doesn't excuse the lack of flavour.Real let down White village as was looking forward to the meal.
Exploring Food
Dined at the restaurant Thursday 29 September. Firstly restaurant was fairly quiet so we expected some level of service. Waitress seemed to be more interested in talking to a group she seemed to know rather than pay any attention to us. When we finally received some level of service the food presented was disappointing. I was recommended to this restaurant from a friend but what a let down. Dips were ok however came with minimum bread. The meat that was supplied was dry and when we brought that to the attention of staff no real effort to make up for it. We also tried the fish which was ok but lacked any flavour. <br/>Having visited a few Greek restaurants over the years this place seemed old and tired. Food presented was dull and its disappointing as Greek food is generous with flavour. <br/>Anyhow that was my experience and won't be coming back or listening to friends recommendations.
Ira Felinski
Came here on a Groupon voucher for 8 courses with Greek coffee. All the food we got as part of the deal was really tasty and served quickly (not rushed). Food Included dips with warm bread, saganaki, dolmades, Greek salad, fried calamari, mixed grill, mixed dessert with halva, baclava, Turkish delight and a Greek coffee. The meat on the mixed grill was a stand out, really well cooked, juicy and nicely seasoned with Greek spices.<br/><br/>Friendly service and classic Greek fitout. Will come back to try their specials which all look and smell great.@

Had many a wonderful evening here, food is fabulous, the lamb is mouthwatering, lets not forget the calamari that's way up<br/>There too. Costa's friendly welcoming touch makes it into my top 10.

"...LOVELY PEOPLE, BUT FOOD WAS A LITTLE DISAPPOINTING - HIGHLIGHT OF THE NIGHT- MATTHEW RICHARDSON SITTING AT THE NEXT TABLE - HE'S A BIT OF A HUNK - GORGEOUS BIG SULTRY SEXY EYES...!"<br/><br/>We finally decided on the $35 per person banquet - had eaten lunch late, and none of us were as ravenous as usual - yeah, incredulously odd for us...!<br/><br/>WHITE VILLAGE GREEK TAVERN, Glenhuntly Road, Elsternwick is a cute, most traditional, homely, little restaurant where the charming and very fit more than middle age wait-staffer [I'm sure he is the owner..] heavy with genuine accent still dances for, sings to and croons away with his doting female patrons.. Bravo..!!<br/>But, apart from finding a celeb in our midst, the only other real highlight was the lightly floured and pan-fried succulent calamari strips - they were truly delicious - just like yaya makes...<br/>The rest was nice, but nothing at all memorable in any way...<br/>Dessert was also a bit of a let-down...<br/><br/>Anyway, we will be back - only to order a big huge enormous platter of those amazing calamari... and to see if this place might actually be one of Richo's faves...<br/><br/>Visited in April 2016

erm, traditional gyros without any pita, chips or dip/sauce? these items aren't even on the menu to purchase on the side... strange, i've never had gyros without at least pita bread. Costa was lovely, however!
FOOD TRIP
A very rustic and homey Greek restaurant that provides live music on Wednesdays as you enjoy your meal. Food is decent, but nothing too extraordinary. Wouldn't come back after trying it once. Dips - Tzatsiki, Eggplant, Taramasalata (full serve) $14.50. Homemade dips that had great flavour and perfect for dipping. 7.5/10

While the reviews below tend to be positive mine is the opposite. First and foremost, the service here was acceptable, not bad not amazing. However, the food on the other hand lacked the necessary flavour needed to make this Greek food more than just large quantities of food. As an entree my Girlfriend and I order the marinated calamari and zucchini croquettes, both underwhelming with the former being a major disappointment as we assumed seafood would be their speciality but was drenched in dil.<br/><br/>Our mains the mixed meat  and seafood platter were of the same vein as the entrees, and did not meet our expectations. The seafood platter was the most disappointing, my Girlfriend, a lover of seafood was unable to even finish the platter. Similarly with the meat platter much of the meat was far to salty and dry and lacked flavour/ On a more positive note, the chicken that was apart of the meat platter was delicious and quickly devoured.<br/><br/>The decor seemed very tacky and uninspired, and lacked the authenticity of a true Greek restaurant. This paired with terrible lighting made the night quite miserable. To top it off the value for money is sub-standard and subsequently, we will not be returning.<br/><br/>You are best off trying your luck at another restaurant.

Wonderful welcoming homely atmosphere, we felt as though we were in someone's living room. The same goes for the food, very authentic home cooked style. We loved it and will be back!!
La Ola Es Mia Cocina.
I arrived here last night with my friend and straight off the bat the place was so full of life and atmosphere that it already had me excited on tasting the 8 course menu that we were about to order. The chef greeted us with a big smile and sat us close to the chef station, so it was a little bit quieter so my friend Neil and I could have a conversation and just soak everything in before the food arrived. Once we places our order and drink order a short time later our platter of dips and bread arrived along with the dolmades which were a lovely treat to start the begging of the meal that was still install for us on the night. The pan fried saganaki arrived which was cooked to perfection. A short time later the crispy real calamari arrived which is always a favourite of mine to come with the Greek salad. Next were the platter of meats which consisted of the meatballs, lamb and chicken which to be honest I was in heaven as I love this sort of food and when it is cooked in such a way like it should be cooked it's compliments to the chef and his staff for working together as a team in such a busy environment and still being able to get the job done. The deserts and traditional Greek coffee were the perfect compliment to finish up on such a wonderful night. A big shout out to the sweet waitress the serves us and the chef/host which kept us entertained with his wonderful sense of humour, dancing, wonderful cooking and taking the time to spend ten minutes chatting with us after we had finished our meals. Congratulations on such a wonderful establishment you's have truly put you heart, souls and traditional values into. Kind regards.

Been here a few times. <br/>The service is always friendly and heartfelt. <br/><br/>However the food platters are always the same. While they are tasty, the meat can be a bit burned and dry (not always) and the seafood is not a lot of variety. <br/><br/>The dips and other entrees are authentic greek food and just lovely.

BEST GREEK RESTAURANT IN MELBOURNE! I have loved every single visit to the Greek Tavern. The owner knows me by name. The food is always exceptional and plentiful. I am always always full. Couldn't recommend the banquet more. Tamara dip.... With the bread. My absolute favourite. Feels like I've entered a restaurant on a small island in Greece. If you like Greek food you are crazy not to go see Costa!

We've come here twice with the voucher and on both occasions the food and service was excellent. Definite recommendation if you are in the area keen on greek food.
Foodinfocusz
The typical Greek offering consisted of several tasty dishes. Disappointing was the gum chewing waitress who seemed determined not to engage with the diners. Overall though, we enjoyed the food and the evening.

Not Impressed. Took my daughter, son and his friend for dinner using Cudo Coupon deal. It was for 8 course banquet. Firstly, the deal stated 2 dolmades each - we received only one each. The pan-fried saganaki cheese was one 1/6 of a whole to share between 4 people and when cut into little squares we were lucky to get about 3 squares - however was very nice. The dips were tasty. The calamari was a rather hard (not succulent nor tender). The meat platter arrived 35-40 minutes after we finished the calamari and unfortunately it was tasteless and grissly. It seemed that there was only the one waitress and one cook in the kitchen to cater for approx 20-25 people and the waitress was polite - yet could have been more cheerful. The decor is basic, the temperature was quite warm ad uncomfortable also the lighting is very dim. We waited and waited and waited for the drink bill and finally had to request it. Will not return.

Prior to this review  (see below) I didn't have a bad thing to say about this place, however my last visit will be just that- my last! Yes it was a busy Saturday night, but that does not mean the service staff need to be rude or dismissive to patrons. I was with a party of 4 and we were seated at a table for 2 in the aisle, so we were constantly bumped by those passing by our table.- including the waitresses! Plates didn't fit comfortably on the way too small table, and consequently the table ended up covered in water and food caused by the constant bumping. My reaction was "If this scalding hot dish gets knocked into my lap I will be suing!" And i secretly hoped it would as this place needs a reality check on what is the acceptable and appropriate way to treat patrons!!  We asked the waitress if we could join our table with an empty one behind us so our dishes would all fit, but were brushed off and ignored. This was pretty much the theme of the night- ask a question and get a shrug or dismissive response. What was supposed to be a good night out for dinner was nothing but stressful and annoying! I felt bad as it was my idea to come to this place as I had been here before and never encountered such rude or horrid service or staff,! Yep, not going back! <br/><br/>-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------<br/><br/>Great food and great service. Will be back.. Came here unexpectedly on a Saturday night after a particularly bad experience at another restaurant 2 doors down (refer to review). The place was busy and the staff prompt and friendly - menus arrived within 3 minutes, water and glasses on the table, plates/cutlery set out. Decor was typical of what I saw in Greek villages years ago- pictures of beaches and other tourist locations, that make one wish they were there basking on beaches and enjoying the relaxed Greek lifestyle. Ordered a seafood platter for 2 and a small Greek salad. Okay, so I've had better seafood platters- this one was mainly crumbed fish, calamari, sardines, scallops and bbq prawns. I generally prefer more fresh than crumbed seafood on platters, and mind you, this wasn't bad, just more akin the the pub style seafood platter. But then the restaurant has a Greek tavern feel to it, so maybe crumbed is the way to go after all? Whatever way you like your seafood platters, the food on this one was very crunchy, delicious and plentiful. The only thing lacking was a few wedges of lemon which would've complimented the crumbed seafood. Salad was fresh and well portioned - lettuce, tomato, olives and fetta, with a tasty dressing, and I guess there is only so much you can say about a good Greek salad. Finished the meal off with a incredibly good Greek (mud) coffee and some delicious Turkish delight out in the courtyard. Tried to con one of the staff into reading our coffee dregs but she was busy. If I had to whine about something, it would be the lack of Greek music which would've gone done a treat on a warm night. Will definitely return in the near future.

Liked it. This was our second visit, again using a voucher for a banquet meal. A venue with the sounds of happy patrons, and smiling efficient, friendly staff. The food was tasty and delicious. Thank you.

Rude staff & owners. I would not recommend this establishment to anybody for the sole reason that the staff & managers/owners are extremely rude & arrogant. I would rather give my local business to any of the many quality and friendly dining options along Glen Huntly road. Businesses should realise that with so many options these days they need to appreciate each and every customer they have. I shall take my business else where and be spreading the word to other locals.

Lovely fresh Greek food. We came here for dinner on a Friday night and had a banquet menu. Started with the dips which were great and lovely warm fresh bread. We had dolmades, Greek salad, calamari and a platter of meat - all very well seasoned and full of flavour. Finished with some very nice Greek desserts. Overall it was a very good night, great service and tasty fresh food!

Great food, cute spot. Went there with a Scoopon offer. Great food, nice variety in the 8 course special. Service is friendly and personable. Nice quantities of food too. Bottles of wine just under $20, so dirt cheap. Second time we'd eaten there, will definitely return again.

6 of us went here last night. All are regular diners. We had a great dinner. We chose the set menu for $44 and it was fabulous. The staff are really friendly and go out if their way to make sure you are happy. Good was great albeit lots of it. Dips and saganski were great, calamari was fresh and tender as was the fish. The lamb and chicken and meatballs were also fab. Then finished off with lovely plate of sweet baklava. Thanks it was all good.
Awolaussie82
A really nice dining experience. A really quaint little rustic Greek place that makes you feel like you're sitting in a restaurant in Santorini. <br/>Set menu is unbelievable value and the food is amazing. The staff are really pleasant and I just cant say a bad word about this place. Heaps better than some of its more famous counterparts. The perfect place for a dinner for two or a big group. BYO too!!!

Consistently Great Food and Lots of Fun!. My family and I have dined at this place many many times and have always left feeling we have had a great meal and a fun night out.<br/>The food is always consistent and fresh. Although we enjoy most of what this place has to offer the fish is always fantastic, especially the garfish.<br/>The service is honest, more than friendly and always reliable. Like most places that are consistently busy, there is sometimes the odd wait or missed order but it always works out in the end and works very well.<br/>I could not expect any more from this place and would highly recommend for a fun, relaxing night out with plenty of atmosphere.
Andrew
Come hungry. We've been twice now and both times it's been so much fun. Great atmosphere, pretty reasonable food (Not the best ever, but decent) - but excellent value for the amount you get. The banquet is the way to go.
Katebee
Awesome for big groups, fun environment and BYO. I've been here twice, both times with large groups for birthdays. We had so much fun here and the food was amazing. Both times we had the banquets. Absolutely love the meats and the seafood. The staff were great and even got us up doing some Greek dancing and plate throwing. It's also BYO which makes for a reasonable night. Would definitely recommend for a large group!
Anuj Batra
Nothing exceptional. Went with a voucher on a Wednesday night, the place was quite packed, I won't rave about the service since there wasn't much of it-a guy who is the owner and one waitress handling all the tables, they can never provide half decent service, the lady serving us just kept leaving the plates on the table with no communication at all. Although I have to say the owner was quite friendly with regulars. The food was nothing exceptional, meat from the spit was ok but I would give the rest a pass. We wouldn't go to this place all the way for another meal. We are diehard urbanspoon followers but on this occasion the experience didn't live up to the rating!
Timbarra1
Absolute crap. Six of us dined here on Friday 9th May, for a seven course banquet .you could not complain about the service because there wasn't any,.two people to service a full tavern was not my idea of good management.<br/> If you a built like a camel it would be ok, to last the distance for food, and liquid nourishment, but at this <br/>establishment,you would be left to the vagaries of the Sahara Desert.<br/> All i can say about the food, is that you would get a better feed,at the Salvos Soup Kitchen<br/>don't say you have not been warned, and make sure you just don't bother, wasting your time and money.
Nick Kovacev
Excellent!. Loved it, 5 of us got the banquet food was coming out quick and there was heaps of it. Everything was delicious great atmosphere and the waitress was quite friendly and quirky!

Busy Relaxed Friendly. First ever review. Bread and dips were and marinated octopus for starter, I'm no expert but am not sure whether the octopus is from a jar or marinated at the premise, it was quite good nonetheless. My girlfriend had meatballs while I had moussaka and a Greek salad; liked them all. Full of young groups and couples, the friendly owner/manager liked a chat.
MK
I really didn't enjoy this restaurant. Went for dinner with my family and didn't enjoy any of the meals. We ordered the $44 banquet. The bread was stale and the dips ordinary with a weird taste. The seafood platter was filled with oily calamari and the fish was had a terrible taste like it had been stewed. You could tell that the food was not fresh. The meat platter was a jungle of chicken and meatballs thrown onto a platter. I would never eat there again and couldn't wait to leave. A horrible experience.
Autumnneve
Disgusting. Last night my partner and I made an unfortunate error by choosing to eat dinner at this restaurant. I chose the meat platter for two whilst my partner chose the Fish. The Meat platter was awful. It actually had a dreadful taste and the meat was chewy and strange tasting. The Fish was overcooked and bland. We gave our meal a rating of 0 and the winner of the worst restaurant to date we have ever been to
Lauren A. Kelly
We will never eat here again. We bought a voucher online to try this place and if we had to pay the price it should have been we would have felt ripped off! The food was terrible (couldn't, and wouldn't, cater for vegetarian and gluten free despite mentioning these requirements at the time of buying the voucher and booking the table), the service was terrible and the decor was run down and old. There are much better places in the area, don't waste your time here.
Brett
Terrible. Judging by some of the reviews on here I wonder if we got the wrost night of all time but considering the low patronage I think not. This restaurant is a classic example of cooking down with no care nor passion. After being stood over by the waitress to make an order, my partner ordered the fish of the day entree and I had the meat platter plus sharing a "Greek Salad". The fish was small, no flavour with chips, just average. The Meat Platter was shocking!!, the meat was way over cooked, lacking any flavour, poorly presented, seriously the chicken pieces looked like they had been gnawed off by a wild animal!! The $10.50 "greek salad" salad was some lettuce, two olives, half a tomato with a some fetta chucked on top, absolutely woeful and ridiculously over priced. Give this place a wide wide berth folks.
Elka
Not a $ but $$$ retaurant. 2 of us went looking for a reasonably (around $50) and the $ sign looked promising. It was a nice cosy restaurant, and the wait staff were busy busy busy but nice. We were seated and not given a menu. Seeing how busy the place was we thought it was only fair to wait. We were asked if we wanted some bread while we waited, we said yes and at the end got charged $14.50 for it, $8 would have been reasonable. It was not even put on the bill and when it was time to pay the guy simply assumed we had the full serve. So please check and let them know you didnt have a full serve! They forgot our second dish, in the end it came to eating just the meat at the end. The lamb was very salty but moist. In the end it came to $88 for 2. Really? A single $ on urbanspoon does not befit. I could have gone elsewhere if I knew I was going to pay that much for a suposedly $ dollar 'cheap eat' restaurant. Urbanspoon should change that.
JAN
Jan Berger. I highly recommend this Greek restaurant....excellent food and service...<br/>Even the choice of food included in the Groupon voucher was well selected.
GemmaKate
Lovely atmosphere! There was only one waitress working but she was very warm & welcoming & did a great job of juggling all the tables. We didnt have to wait long for our food and our entree was on the house, which was a nice touch for our first visit. The food itself was pretty standard Greek cuisine, nonetheless delicious and we opted to take home the leftovers of our mixed grill to enjoy tomorrow. Overall a very pleasant, friendly place for a nice Sunday dinner.
BCornwall72
Brilliant. Came for a quiet Sunday meal and were so pleased we're going to make it our regular haunt. The familial, warm service, moderate prices and generous quantities make this place an absolute winner.

I come from a Greek family been to all the Greek taverns around Melbourne and many in Greece. This is as Greek as its going to get. Home made warm bread and water on arrival. That's what happens in Greece BTW. Food is very delicious and waiter who also owns the restaurant is very bubbly and warm. Restaurant also has that Greek feel. Me and a friend used deals voucher and both very impressed. Even though we live 50 mins drive away we are keen to return very soon. Thur night and place was full. We met a group of Greek people on the next table who've been going there 25 years. They were celbrating their 46th anniversary. There was a nice diverse mix of diners there. Families, old, young, couples, groups and from other cultural backgrounds not only Greek people. We were so full by the time we got our main we didn't eat much of it. We asked to take it home and I think he mixed ours up with someone else's. we gave it to the dog. Maybe he should put names on the containers. Otherwise 10/10 service and food.
Catherine C
Tasty and great!. Just had dinner there tonight. With the voucher from deals.com. Food was fantastic! Nothing bad to comment about. Amazing how there was just one waitress and a full restaurant and no waiting between courses. Good service and excellent food. I would dine there again :)

Costas world. We have been eating here for over 12 years. The food is always good and it is one of our favourite restaurants . We love the host Costa he remembers all his regulars and looks after them. Great meat, chicken, fish and haloumi great dips. He can do no wrong in our eyes.

We had a voucher and the food was excellent. The service was great even though there was only one waiter for the whole restaurant I will definitely return.

SECOND TIME UNLUCKY. Went to this place last year and against my better judgement decided to give it another try. bad idea. food doesnt look anything like the pics, lol... over priced and meat was dry and almost inedible. i also noticed two waiters arguing with the customers on the next table, apparently about the bill... its not crossed off my list for good.

Great meal. We went here last night with some friends on a discount voucher for a fixed meal for the 4 of us. The menu was 4 entrees, stuffed vine leaves, mixed dips and bread, lettuce and feta salad and saganaki. All delicious. Two mains consisted of nicely cooked but a little oily calamari in fine batter and char grilled chicken and lamb. Both these dishes were plentiful and tasty. The calamari was nice and tender. The meats were a bit salty for me but tasted delicious and had lemon juice on them while cooking. A glass of either house red or while wine each was also included. Dessert was small portions each of halva,Turkish delight and rolled baklava. Small serves but delicious. Greek coffee or tea at the end rounded off a really enjoyable and filling meal. I can recommend this place and look forward to a return to try some of the other menu.

Always Nice Food .... I first went to White Village with afew vouchers from Ouffer some time ago and for what we paid for the voucher and the food we got, was great value (bottle of wine was nice!). The food was delicious and have been back there quite afew times and never disappointed. Once you become a regular Kosta remembers you and looks after you. I am surprised to see some negative reviews, must have been an 'off' night or as it is with some people in this world, not easy to please and always have something to piss & moan about. Only suggestion for White Village is to get a little bit more variety on the menu. Other than that, look forward to eating there again soon!
Kim
Best Greek Food in Melbourne. I have been going to the White Village for years. I have always had a great meal and the banquet is a treat.Costa and staff are excellent and very friendly.Highly recommended.
Concordia
Pleasantly surprised. Went with a voucher (first time using one) and didn't expect a lot because when I made the reservation, the reception I got was rather dismissive when she heard I had a voucher. The restaurant has a nice typical Greek atmosphere and was vibrant when we arrived. Only one woman serving but she did an admirable job with 75% of the tables full. The food was good enough and close to authentic....we will return (which is the point of offering vouchers). The owner came out for a chat a couple times and we had a great fun evening.

Terrible. We were part of group of 6 who pre-booked in table on a typical Wednesday which should not have been a problem.<br/>We were told to stand and wait (5 minutes) to be allocated a table yet there 5 availbale without reservation signs.<br/>We were then strongly encouraged to choose one of two banqet options.<br/>The food was then terrible - trio of dips with roughly broken stale bread, oily fried calamari, a plate of meat that was charred with a burnt black crust followed by dessert consisting of smalldry baklava rolls and cubes of jelly described as turkish delight.<br/>Nothing delightful about this restaurant.

My wife and I went there last night with a voucher. We were very impressed. Delicious traditional Greek food served promptly which was great as we had theatre tickets. Loved the calamari. In fact the whole meal was great. Recommend the Greek beer. You'll laugh at the name :)

Really liked it. Recently visited with a voucher and had a wondeful meal. The place was packed to the rafters but we were still served promptly and had no problems at all. Lovely staff, it appeared to me to be a family affair. Definately will be back soon.

Great find. Yum. We tried this restaurant tonight using a voucher and were really impressed. The restaurant was pretty full, one only waitress who was friendly and brought food out promptly. We really, really loved every dish they served including the Greek coffee and sweets at the end. Thank you.

Short changed. I used my Ouffer voucher tonight and was pleased with the authentic greek decor. However the banquet I received was two courses short of what the deal indicated. The pan-fried calamari and crisp Greek salad with feta and fat kalamata olives were not offered or presented at all. Other courses were nice.<br/>My daughter came to the restaurant using her Deal voucher and she also missed out on these two courses. I wouldn't go back again and thought it was cheap for the restaurant to short change us by going back on their word and not offering what was on the deal.<br/>For all you "Voucher" customers, I suggest you take a copy of your deal and make sure you get what is written on the offer.

Food was good and plenty of it. Service was good. Drink availability was restricted for those who didn't want alcohol.

What can I say I eat there about once a week sometimes even more, ever since i started eating there i stopped cooking at home! I'm obsessed with the feta they use in the Greek salad. Customer survive is great but they get very busy and it can get quite loud in there like most other good Greek restaurants. Food is traditional and what Greek food should taste like.

Food was okay with really nice service. Friendly and warm environment. Only negative was food was a little oily.

Really nice meal. Damn busy place .. Poor waiter was run off his feet. Saturday night. Make sure you book!<br/><br/>The food was really tasty and fresh. We had octopus (delightful) saganaki (really nicely cooked) and a meat platter that was meant to be for one but easily accommodated two. <br/><br/>At the end of the meal, Costa (I assume the owner) told me they had been there 23 years. <br/><br/>I'm not surprised that the place was packed to the rafters. Great food, amazing atmosphere. Simple and well prepared meals. Recommended.

Restaurant review. Last night for a nice Valentine's day dinner, I ate at this restaurant. Being from greek background, I'm already quite familiar with a tradtional Greek menu, what it entails and also, more importantly, what to expect. The level of service, the quality of the food and to top it all off the cost of the food were all abysmal. <br/><br/>I cannot rant and rave like many others have before me about this eatery when it did nothing for us, but cause us to literally eat and run. Upon arrival, we weren't shown a menu (understandably some restaurants don't and go through your choices with you), this one did not; instead we were told what we were eating and then told water for the table would arrive shortly. <br/>We asked for water 4 times, and even when the bill came. The bill came; the water did not. We requested lemon for our food.. that too was too much for them to bring us. We were never attended to appropriately, and the food was presented to us much like a Dog's Breakfast. We found it bland and put me off ever wanting to eat there again!<br/><br/>I DON'T recommend this place. If customer service was good, i could've forgiven the overpriced ($89) food. But both were equally horrid. Not what i expected from the usual friendly and very attentive greek eateries i've been to in the past.

Great experience, will be back. Myself and my partner wen't here based on other reviews from this site, and boy I was so happy<br/><br/>The customer service, in particular from the manager/owner, a fellow by the name of Costa was above and beyond. The setting was nice.<br/><br/>We were impressed by this and decided to go all out and get a banquet. Everything was great. I usually don't like prawns but they cooked it so well I devoured it willingly.<br/><br/>The salads, entree's, meats, seafood were great. The desert was good but just a little too sweet for my liking, but I don't doubt for a second it was authentic.<br/><br/>I highly recommend this restraunt. Great prices as well. Will be back there very soon.

White Elephant. Bistro style seating, timber floorboards and that unique shade of blue found exclusively in Greek taverns all combine to create a relaxed, casual atmosphere at White Village. Add the restaurants charismatic host Kostas to the mix, and you're assured of an entertaining night out if nothing else.<br/><br/>There's no menu at White Village, but most people tend to stick with the banquet which is moderately priced at $39 per head. Apparently there's scope to modify the banquet if you desire, and there were a few specials scrawled crudely on the blackboard, albeit with no prices.<br/><br/>The "set menu" or "banquet" comprised all the usual Greek suspects;<br/><br/>Dips & Bread <br/>Whitebait<br/>Saganaki<br/>Seafood plate - chunk of fish each, one prawn each and fried calamari<br/>Greek salad - the inclusion of dill was nice<br/>Meat platter - lamb & chicken gyros, lamb patties, and a single kebab of lamb for three diners.<br/>Potatoes with the odd chunk of carrot<br/>Dessert - Baklava, Turkish Delight & Halva<br/>Greek coffee<br/><br/>I have no objection to any Greek restaurant offering up all the done to death standards providing they are well executed, however the repertoire at White Village was run of the mill at best. Most of the dishes were under seasoned, and there wasn't a salt or pepper shaker in sight to rectify matters.<br/><br/>The meat platter was the biggest disappointment, as aside from three small, tasty lamb patties and a lone skewer of lamb, the remainder of the plate comprised fatty, charred, unappetizing lamb & chicken gyros. This may go down well at some late night kebab shop, but surely one expects a little more from a reputable restaurant.<br/><br/>Whilst the service was casual and friendly, it was anything but efficient. We had to ask twice for an ice bucket, and the same situation was repeated when attempting to get the bill. In addition, the timing between courses made for a long night. On the positive, corkage was a mere $1 per head, but I can't say I'd be back in a hurry.

Great set menu and really nice service, love the dips, fried cheese and giro. It can be noisy but not squeezy and it's always busy.
