Review Bang Bang Rc - Elsternwick

Can I give 10 stars? This place was amazing. Staff were absolutely the best. Food was some of the most delicious, delectable food I've ever had. Thank you for making our Anniversary an amazing one.

Food and drinks were really nice, $15 curry night was worth every cent. However we didn't appreciate the manager forcing us to move saying it's 'too cold' when it was so they could actually close off the outdoor area. We would've understood if we were told the truth. Also got told we could only order wine while the restaurant was still open for another 30 minutes. Wouldn't recommend bookings after 7:45pm if that's the approach they take to their customers

Great food. Service was on point. Always fun hanging out at Bang Bang

Came here for a bottomless brunch. Wasn’t disappointed. We got fed well and and loved the selection of drinks that came with the package. Only drawback. For someone who doesn’t eat pork or lamb there weren’t many options.

We dined at Bang Bang to celebrate a Birthday and after an initial hiccup with what menu we were entitled to, the manager Jill, was fantastic with the final decision, service and her professionalism was second to none. A wonderful gesture and outcome made the night. The food was sensational with no bad dishes at all and the atmosphere and ambience was perfect. Huge thank you to Jill and her team for making it a fantastic night. Highly recommend this restaurant.

I visited this place twice, both times were enjoyable. A quiet Wed night service was exceptional - very attentive, food tasted great too and served quickly. I didn't like how towards the end of the evening the staff kept bothering us if we finished yet. The inside ambience and choice of music was really good. The Mojito cocktail was probably the worst I ever had.

Came to bang bang for a bottemless brunch, I’m very early pregnant and didn’t want the group of friends to know I was. Shaun who works there was absolutely amazing! Made all my cocktails non Alcoholic, but looking the same as the others and very discretely placed all my drinks in front of me. I cannot rate him enough! Amazing service, drinks and foods were amazing, will definitely return :)

Bang Bang’s got it going on 🔥 Venue is gorgeous. Food was great. LOVED the salmon sashimi and the tofu dish. Short but nice selection of wine. If I had to point out anything negative it would be the main snapper dish was quite expensive for what you get. Other than that, fantastic! Defs will be back for more! 🤤

GREAT first visit. started off well, being greeted at the door by a really friendly, smiling face. Was taken straight to our table, just past the bar. Was offered water and handed drinks and food menus at the same time, great as I hate having to wait ages just to see what's on offer. Our server/waitress came over and, now this is what I really liked, introduced herself to us, (you know who you are Gill/Jill/Tina/Tanya) asked if this was our first time visiting, which it was, and welcomed us to Bang Bang. I've been to many places where the server just says hello and get their pads out ready to take our order. We decided to go with the ' feed me' option on the menu and what a great choice that was. So many mouthwatering dishes to pick from the decision was overwhelming but that was taken out of our hands. The first dish came out within 10 minutes, the drinks came out after 5. One by one plate after plate of mouthwatering, authentic food was delivered to our table, a fantastic variety of dishes, ranging from vegetarian, meat and fish from very spicy to very mild, (but flavoursome). Serving sizes where just right, non of us left hungry, we didn't even look at the dessert menu as we had no room left for any. Water was topped up regularly and cocktail and wine glasses never ran dry. My only negative comment is the food was coming out faster than we could eat it so ended up with a small round table being slightly overrun with half eaten dishes and dishes waiting to be eaten. But is it really a negative when the food is served so promptly All in all I, and my friends, had an amazing first visit and a really great night out, we will definitely be back and will definitely relay our experience to our friends. Thanks again and " it's not goodbye, it's bonjour" as Del boy would say

Discovered this place Saturday. Amazing place!!! So beautiful sitting outside enjoying a Shiraz with the heaters & the blanket (great touch) Where can I buy one? :) Only reason I gave you 4 stars was coriander was added to the beef cheeks, it was not listed on the written menu (Am one of THOSE people that hates coriander) please list EVERYTHING that is included! Other than that the beef cheeks were to die for, so yummy!!! I WILL be back!!

Dropped in to Bang Bang on Saturday night for an impromptu meal. We were asked if we wanted a table outside or inside but it was very warm so we chose to sit inside. Our waitress was right there to take our drinks order which came out quickly. We picked five small dishes to share: Pork Scratchings, Red Curry Rice Balls, Duck Pate, Chicken Ribs and the Papaya & Kohlrabi Salad. Food service was good. They brought out the Pork Scratchings and Rice Balls first and then the other three dishes after we had made some room on the table which I thought was very smart from a service perspective. Our lovely waitress kept a good eye on our wine glasses and was right there when we needed refills. We each ordered wines by the glass and the wines were lovely. Although the 'by the glass' selection is limited, the have put good thought into it and the white wines and prosecco that we had were very nice. The Duck Pate was fantastic and was my favourite dish. Served with a lovely hot baguette and pickled onion and cucumber and fresh coriander it was just delightful. We will definitely be returning. Keep up the good work Bang Bang!

Was taken there today by friends (who love this place and say it's one of the best in Melbourne) to celebrate my birthday. The staff were friendly and fabulous, the food truly delicious (I had the Chargrilled Chicken with Green Papaya Salad). Although the wine I like wasn't available by the glass, they recommended several others which I was also offered to try before buying - classy place! Don't live anywhere near here but will be back for sure.

Dissatisfied, Not worth at all Service is worst, staff need some training, food way to expensive and such a long wait time even for a glass of beer 👎🏼👎🏼 Don't waste ur time and money for this ridiculous place

Went to Bang Bang after seeing on Getaway in the morning. Great place for lovely relaxing afternoon. Service great, just had nibbles and wine and thoroughly enjoyed it . Loved the food and staff were lovely.

This 5 star review is purely a review on Ellen who was our server. She was friendly, attentive and had a ‘nothing is too much trouble’ attitude. She was amazing and catered to all my allergies. Thank you for an amazing 2 hours Ellen! We will be back and happily recommend Bang Bang all because of you! Xx

Came here for bottomless brunch for my birthday on the weekend. Staff were really lovely and attentive and food was spectacular. Crowd favourite were the tender ribs, with meat sliding off the bone. Drink service was a little slow at times. Would definitely recommend to others as a great place for bottomless brunch with a fantastic food

We haven’t waited for more than 5min and were seated (group of 6 people) the staff was friendly. Our orders were quickly served. All the dishes tasted very good.

Went to Bang Bang RC for their $69 bottomless brunch with involves unlimited beverages with hawker style food.
🍴shucked oysters, chicken liver pate, fried vegetable spring rolls, lamb ribs, papaya salad, slaw, chat chil eggplant, fries, tuna tartare and mango sticky rice.
💁🏼‍♀️ the place was very busy. Service was okay. Staff were friendly.

Went to Bang Bang with a group of 6 friends for a birthday dinner and decided to get the banquet. Couldn’t fault anything on it, was absolutely delicious!!

The mocktails are incredible! This restaurant only has cocktails listed on its menu but they are able to make mocktails as well. They have a few vegan options, but I do not recommend the vegetable curry, it was quite citrus in flavour and slightly burnt in taste as well. There wasn’t even much curry sadly because there was half a cabbage chunk on the side of the plate and a stack of potato chips. Overall, the drinks were awesome, but the food for a vegan....not so much :)

Had a catch up with friends tonight that saw us visiting Bang Bang RC for some flavour filled Indochina fusion foods. A lovely venue we sat in a fully closed in outdoor area and felt warm and toasty despite it being early spring.

I arrived early so just caught the last of the happy hour which runs until 6:30pm. The menu read really well and we found some great dishes to share despite our group being a little problematic in terms of eating requirements ( a vegetarian, three picky meat eaters, one of whom doesn’t like things too spicy).

Cocktails impressed and the Lychee & Lemongrass cocktail pretty as a picture while their version of Aperol spritz, the Graperol was a pleasant twist with added grapefruit juice.

Food wise I loved the meat free betel leaf, the salt and pepper squid and I loved the level of char on the satay chicken skewers, which came with quite a spicy satay (also was a big fan). The roti was excellent and our vegetarian friends curry dish came and she indulged while the rest of us chatted. This was a hot pumpkin dry curry full of peppercorns and green chilli. Knock your sock off hot I’m told.

Our waiting staff were fabulous and really helpful and engaging. That said, other than the vegetarian curry which only one of us was eating there was a fairly large wait until our final dishes came out... perhaps that’s just the order of things So perhaps we should have asked for all medium and large dishes to be served at once.

Our Thai roasted chicken was perfectly portioned for us and had nicely crispy skins. The best dish of the night imo was the beef ribs which were cut away for us and were full flavoured and moorish. Love these slow cooked meat dishes and they were nice accompanied by a fresh slaw and fries (just because).

After all that were were pretty full but tried the Five spice apple turnover and the coconut crem brûlée. I enjoyed both but found any hint of coconut was masked by the passionfruit. The brûlée’s was smooth and they nailed the cracking surface.

We definitely enjoyed our evening and I would dine here again and try some of the more adventurously spicy dishes.
Good Food Good Mood
We visited Bang Bang last night for a dinner catch up with friends and were surprised to see how unbelievably busy it was of a Monday night. The staff were very engaging but the attentiveness tended to taper off as the venue filled up. I enjoyed a lychee and lemongrass cocktail as we waited for the sharing style food to arrive.

We ordered the betel leaf, calamari and satay chicken skewers from the small menu. I’m usually a huge fan of betel leaf but was a little skeptical of this one as it was a vegetarian creation. Needless to say they are definitely tastier with meat but it was certainly flavoursome. I enjoyed the calamari but found the skewers a little hot for my palette. The waitress helped us navigate the spice of the menu and recommended we steer clear of several dishes as their offering does lean towards the spicy side.

Our main dishes were the beef short rib with coconut and cinnamon and Thai roasted chicken. My favourite was the beef but owing only to personal preference. We selected sides of roti and rice (outstanding roti) and she suggested we add the slaw and fries as well suited accompaniments. I’m not generally a fan of slaw and this one didn’t sway me but others at the table seemed to appreciate it.

As for desserts we had the coconut creme brûlée and the five spiced apple turnover which were a pleasant way to end the meal but not a must order. The coconut was so subtle it was barely recognisable. Overall tasty food and a well styled venue in a very accessible location, quite a lot going for it it would seem

Food is average. My soya mocha was not good at all.

Really delicious, good sized and very tasty Asian food. The marinated muscle betel leaf was simply to die for, the duck curry amazing. Funky venue, really good service. Thanks! Will def be back.

Nice place to catch up with friends... great service with a smile. We had the calamari, chicken satay, salt and pepper squid and roasted pork belly, kohlrabi slaw and beers. Food was great

Delicious and very tasty food! I have been here four time and each time the food has been great! Love the fish and the betel leaf, the papaya slaw was yummy as well. Great vibe for drinks and In summer this place is fabulous!

Another visit to Bang Bang and we were pleased to see a couple of changes to their menu which is not surprising given they now have a new head chef at the helm in the kitchen. We enjoyed our choice of dishes and found the floor staff to be very friendly and helpful.
CrazyMelbChick
Loved the space, lovely selection of dishes (we ordered many dishes to share) and the service was attentive, friendly and very prompt. A great experience overall. Would highly recommend.

Why have I only just discover this restaurant! The food is amazing, tasty and beautiful presented and different. What I really liked though was the service. Usually i don’t notice the service, you order food and it’s delivered to your table but at Bang Bang the waitress was delightful, attentive filling our water glass all the time and had good recommendations. We had a to share the beatle wraps, the Larb salad and the lamb as well as a couple of deserts the Lamington and the mango sorbet. We felt welcomed and spent a very pleasant 4 hours chatting without being pressured to leave. This place will become one of my favourite restaurants. Well done all round !

We had a great family dinner tonight at Bang Bang RC. Could not fault any of the food we ordered! Loved the silken tofu, the satay chicken, the tuna larb and the grilled lamb. Polished off nicely by some scoops of fresh sorbet. Staff were attentive, there was a suitable kids menu (that was also delicious 😋) and it was a beautiful sitting outside

Great for summers night dinner. Staff are very friendly and knowledgable of the menu. Great recommendations when you don’t know what to order.
Whats On The Grill?
I wish I could give this place a 3.5.

Great set-up, particularly for summer drinks with some mates. The food however is a bit hit & miss. It seems to have the right intentions however just doesn’t quite nail them. I found the kingfish sashimi to be slightly drowned in the citrus juices, the salt & pepper calamari to have bits of octopus throughout (although was very tasty) and the wings were excellent. The Business Cocktail was thumbs up however the lemongrass & lychee, less so.
Freeo
I absolutely love the food and atmosphere here. Second visit for dinner with mates on Saturday night and was not disappointed.

The venue is cool and the outside area perfect for cocktails on a balmy summer night and they have a great cocktail menu.

We were a party of 6 so it was a good choice to go the feed-me option for only $59 pp. The food was outstanding and the amount of food was plentiful that you won’t leave hungry. Stand out dishes were the pomelo betel leaves, pork belly, duck boa, lamb shoulder with papaya salad and the black sticky rice pudding( 10 outa 10).

Highly recommend this place

Orders were taken, then had to wait 15minutes for our table water to arrive. Two friendly staff noted our request, but apperently forgot about it. Had to call a third staff to get water on the table. I wonder how long their water refill would usually take?
Food and ambiance was alright.
Peppercorn
Came here for a work Xmas Dinner and we were all very impressed. We got the tasting menu and each dish was incredible. The stand outs were the Pomelo Betal Leaf which was oozing flavor and the king fish sashimi was also to die for. Only downside was it was extremely busy and table service was slow. Often to be expected just before Christmas. Looking forward to taking my husband!
Love2Eat
Great week night vibes and super friendly And attentive service. Really enjoyed the food as well, the crispy squid small plate, twice cook duck that was a surprisingly generous serve and went nicely with steamed baos, and the delicious Iamington crepe served with a side of refreshing creamy coconut ice cream. Would not hesitate to return!

Great for a sunny afternoon -- I recommend the 'Graperol Spritz', available during Happy Hour for $5! Good vibes, great food and great location.

Had a great Birthday lunch on Sunday, $59 feed me and bottomless cocktail menu.
The food and drinks were excellent, just the right amount, very friendly attentive service, thank you Eliza!
Love the decor, atmosphere and will definitely be back again very soon!

Perfect meal to finish off a crazy day in Melbourne ! The $15 curries exceeded expectations and went down so well with a glass of red! I had the Wagu beef and it was insanely tender and a perfect size! This is value for money! My ladies got the pumpkin and also said it was amazing! Service was fabulous and came away feeling so fulfilled and content that the bank was not broke 🙏

3.5/5
Another nice place for a drink. My partner and I went here and sat in the beer garden. This place is perfect on a sunny day.

The set was good, and helpful. We had a glass of rose and a La Sirene Urban Ale. It was a really nice place to visit although the drinks were quite pricey.

Inside the restaurant was really busy but I was going elsewhere for dinner so I didn’t eat here. The restaurant was Indonesian fusion style.

Nice and relaxing in the beer garden.

This place is one of my favourites to sit and enjoy the sun. Always full and buzzing in the afternoon as happy hour begins. Great service and friendly staff.
Genevieve Christophers
The food here is usually great & staff are friendly , but I don’t think I’ll be back unless they decide to have an area where the mostly awful music is not blaring.
Maybe keep it in the bar area only. People usually go out to dine to catch up with friends, so hearing conversation is very important. No music is preferable!
Popped in here for a Sunday lunch and grabbed a table out in the sun. Ordered a few small bites, including kingfish sashimi and soft shell crab with red curry - all delicious. Service was friendly and prompt as well.
Laura Brand
I had my 30th Birthday at the front bar area & it was an outstanding night!! The team looked after us all night, even after we carried on late. The functions guys took great care of us & were very accommodating to what we wanted. It’s a beautiful venue but still really relaxed & fun.
The food here is delicious, great Vietnamese fusion & the wine list is why we come back all the time (also the fries!).
it’s also super dog friendly- even has heaters outside when it’s chilly.
Couldn’t recommend enough!
Terry H
Man this place is a little gem. Outstanding fusion food, great wine list, chilled atmosphere and staff, and at the risk of sounding a little basic... The greatest fries I've ever tasted! Party on!

Came here yesterday with my mum, dad and sister! Absolutely lovely food - veggie options were great, while the others really enjoyed theirs too. Our lunch turned boozy, and the Espresso Martinis and Alphabet Cocktail were magnificent. Staff were super friendly and attentive to us. Can't wait to return.

Started off wonderfully but overall left a sour taste in our mouth. Group of friends had dinner here recently on a busy Friday night and initially had a wonderful time. Our waiter was amazing, he cracked lots of jokes and kept checking in with us to make sure we were enjoying everything.
The only issue is that staff seemed really under the pump, and were running around madly all evening. They were attentive to a fault but clearly seemed stressed. As my friends and I work in hospitality, we thought it was strange to see the managers (or who we thought must of been managers) standing around talking while their staff ran around. One manager in particular we noticed (female, short, square printed shirt, dark hair) spent most of the evening standing by the kitchen, and would often walk past tables without engaging or offering to clear. We saw her roll her eyes at staff at one point, and her rude attitude put a bit of a damper on our evening.

Overall, the food was delicious, though slightly overpriced for the portion size and the staff were great Will return.

We love Bang Bang RC, we didn’t think we could love it anymore until we found out about ‘Curry Night’, every Tuesday $15 curry, Happy Hour and great atmosphere! Last night was no exception, three delicious curries that we shared alongside our menu favourites, the host took us through all the flavour profiles of each curry so we could make decisions on heat as well as taste! Cocktails, beers and a lovely Rose made us all the happier. We will be back.

Tuesday finally has purpose beyond Tacos and Trivia 🙌🏻

This place used to be fantastic for brunch and breakfast. But they changed their menu and now there is almost no good choice if you come for breakfast.
The Dear Luncher
Outstanding service, superb food and healthy range of beers. The Dear Luncher experienced a function here recently and the food was first rate. Staff extremely accommodating and all punters in attendance left extremely satisfied.

Completely mystifying as to why this venue is rated poorly. Highlights included the red curry rice balls, chicken ribs and beef sticks. In fact, it was all delicious. This is an extremely underated operation.
Cats Away
Modern asian inspired food. Most of their menu is gluten free, you just have to ask. Friendly staff. Decent coffee. Will be back again to try some of the other options. On a chilly winter's day, the place looked closed and dark from the outside, but was light and welcoming once inside.
SusieQ
We lunched here today. We were greeted warmly and directed to the outdoor terrace area which had the clear awnings to protect us from the chill. The service was impeccable and extremely obliging. We ordered the brunch special consisting of the classic pad Thai which was a generous serving $15. My companion had grilled chicken salad $17. We washed it down with a glass of prosecco. We enjoyed the experience. Will return .
@twogoodtoresist
The happy hour at bang bang is top notch! 5$ wines and graperol spritz is an absolute bargain! The fries with chilli, lime and kewpie mayo are to die for as well.

Their Asian fusion style menu is delicious! A combination of different flavours and textures to produce a very authentic and not your average menu. Prices do seem a little high (ie 30$ for a whole roasted cauliflower) however we thoroughly enjoyed all the food we ate! The king fish sashimi, pork shoulder and pomelo salad with crispy noodles were definitely our faves! The laminating crepes for dessert are a must!

Their cocktails and drinks are fantastic too! The Yuzu Negroni was AMAZING!
Kate Dougherty
So surprised that Bang Bang has such a low rating. I had lunch here yesterday and absolutely loved it. The atmosphere was casual but trendy, the staff were super friendly and the food was delicious. Between 2 we ordered the trout betel leaves, the pork scratchings, the kingfish sashimi, the roasted half duck and the apple and beetroot salad. I would go back simply for the pork scratchings! So addictive. I was also impressed with the cocktails on offer. The Bank St spritz was especially tasty.

I'll admit, my visits to Bang Bang have been up and down. Last night however I wouldn't have thought we were at the same restaurant that had disappointed us about 6 months ago. On arrival we told our waiter we could only stay for an hour and she was very accommodating to this request, coursing our food away together. We ordered the duck and lamb, both of which were great. "The Business" cocktail was refreshing and with a half salt rim to please everyone. My only complaint would be that the wine we ordered may have been opened for a touch too long, but to be fair this can happen at any good restaurant.
Sisters Say
The Sisters Say this is great! Sisters brunch became sisters lunch and a good thing because we ended up here at Bang Bang Elsternwick. Been wanting to come here for ages and it did not disappoint. Great staff, a special thanks to our waitress, Georgia. We ordered a few snacks and small dishes, french fries, pork scratching, papaya & Kohlrabi, stir fry apple eggplants & salted pork belly washed down with a bottle of vino. Safe to say we will return! Thanks for a great Sunday arvo!@
Joanne Gow
Over priced and so noisy.

Please do yourself a favour a don’t order the $59 feed me because you will be disappointed like we were. One dish had a small mouthful of salmon, deep fried chicken ribs and everything else was vegetarian. One meal had too much fish sauce couldn’t even eat it. 3 other dishes were vegetarian. I wanted to try the lamb on the menu and thought it would be on the ‘feed me menu’

The music was so loud we were screaming at each other.

We were never given the wine list so just ordered a bottle of red.

The kids meal is a joke $8 for a 2 bite burger and over cooked chips!!! There was no nutrition in this meal whatsoever and my 5 year loves veggies.

I was looking forward to going here but walked out hungry and with an empty pocket

Go somewhere else
BEats
Quite pricey, but the service is good, they take allergies seriously (which is a relief seeing as there’s peanuts all over the menu!), and the food is delicious. Worth a try for a special occasion.
Live_in_melbourne
We had the set menu, and it didn't impress me. Service was OK, a little hit and miss, like wrong drink and confusion of orders. If a set menu get you a big chunk of pumpkin and that's the main dish you have, I would not recommend much. (there were 10 of us, and we had been served very little portion for the other dishes.) Although we were full and couldn't finish that 3 big plates of pumpkin curry in the end, I expected to have a better curry dish, not a tasteless hard pumpkin with a little bit of curry on the side.
Alex
Although this restaurant is a bit expensive, everything was perfect. Incredible food and amazing cocktails. Our waitress was a legend. Would highly recommend this place, would be a great 1st date place.
Lan Tan
Can’t believe a $20 a glass cocktail would look like that in the photos. Not only they are not presentable, they don’t taste nice at all. One of them is full of ice. We also had betel leaf with trout and found bones in the food. For the price we are paying, we would expect better meals or drinks. Never will we go there again.
Kim Carbdashian
The experience at Bang Bang was enjoyable and I would go back again- but it’s not on the top of my list of “go to places “.
My partner and I walked in on a busy Friday night, on the off chance we could get a table without a booking . The staff greeted us promptly and were very accommodating. We were seated on a large shared table next to a group of people, but given we hadn’t booked, I was happy to sit there.
The atmosphere was buzzing with a live Dj, and many people enjoying a cocktail or two .
The drinks menu was of average price,17-22$ for a cocktail and 10-12$ for a beer, however I thought not a huge range to select from if you’re wanting to be adventurous with drinks .
The red curry rice roll was a small single entree to start. Hot, tasty, but very small in size. I believe it would be worth ordering 3 or or so entrees to fill you up .
Moving on to the mains came the dilemma of what to order and how much do we want to spend?. With a range of “small shares” , to a “large share” it was hard to know how exactly small or large these meals were. Wait staff happily informed us that usually two small shares or 1 large share would be enough for 1 person .
I ordered the $30 large massaman curry with pumpkin . It came out quickly , very hot and beautifully displayed, but it left me thinking was this worth 30$?. Consisting of 2 large pumpkin slices and two potatoes , I felt full - yet my bank account would be shortly empty.
My partner chose two of the small shares and a side of steamed open bao for his main. Again, promptly served , beautifully displayed, but very small in size . Two small dishes and a side dish for a hungry male just wasn’t enough.

In all, if your going to enjoy a night out at Bang Bang, make sure you’ve just had pay day and order a dish or two more to fill the tank.
Staff- 5/5
Atmosphere -4/5 (a bit noisy with loud groups yelling over the top of the music playing )
Drinks -4/5
Food taste- 4/5
Food value/ cost -3.5/
Facility-4.5/5
Food friendly - 4/5 ( extremely veggie friendly)
Littleguy11
Will not be returning, such a shame, has a lovely outdoor area, food was overpriced. Two plates of food and one lemonade $50! Ordered the. Lamb bao, was on dry side and was just okay and ordered some trout dish which was smothered in salt which came with a few lettuce leaves and a huge mountain of overly salty prawn crackers. I get what they are doing, perhaps trying to get people to order more drinks. My mother warned me that it was average but I made her try with me and once again she and I was as sooo disappointed.
Andrew@phase5
The venue is immaculate and the so is the menu and food. Millions have been spent on this restaurant and the only thing continuing to let this place down and causing a disappointing 2.5 rating on Zomato are elements of the service/staff which is still not up to scratch. I really hope they nail it soon for a higher rating overall.
Nomnom
I feel bad leaving a low rating when the one thing I liked on the menu was good quality (the pumpkin curry).

The low rating is because it was very EXPENSIVE for what you get and also most of the group I was with including myself struggled to find anything we like on the menu.

Expensive because a curry (part of the so called "large share"), Kumbacha and a tiny bowl of rice cost me $39 and left me hungry afterwards anyway. It's ridiculous a rice costs extra to go with the curry...curry is generally eaten with rice. And the curry was definitely not large enough to share and should have been way deeper in terms of volume.

Everything on the menu was bite sized or pork based. There needed to be more rice based meals to fill you up, most things seemed to be entree type food.

We did have a really nice waitress who helped explain the menu and was joking with us so I can't fault the staff.

The building itself and setting was very nice. I like how they retained the old heritage brick, and the place overlooks Elsternwick plaza

Very enjoyable evening at Bang Bang. As a local, been wanting to come here sunce it opened. Staff were generally friendly and helpful and the various dishes were flavoursome. We tried the salt & pepper squid, pork belly, brisket (amazing), trout with mussels as well the papaya salad which was excellent. Look forward to my next visit!

Last evening I had the pleasure of dining at Bang Bang RC. From the time of arrival (which was quite early as I was waiting on daughter and partner to arrive) I was made very welcome. I was seated at the bar and had a drink while the hostess found a table. The floor staff were all very attentive right through the entire evening and extremely pleasant.

My daughter having been to Bang Bang on prior occasions chose the meal which we shared. We started with the Crispy chicken wings and King Fish Ceviche all of which were extremely tasteful, followed by Duck Pate - a step back in time, flavorsome and obviously house made - the baguette was also a delight. We finished off with the Ocean Trout Curry accompanied by rice and slaw. The flavors once again were delightful and you just wanted to keep eating.

I personally would recommend any one to Bang Bang RC, and I look forward to my next visit.
Eat And Be Merry Crew
Bang Bang RC is French Indochine cuisine made for sharing. The flavours were aromatic with the careful tightrope balance of sweet, sour and savoury. The service was convivial with guidance on ordering and glasses kept topped. I was intrigued with the stir fried apple eggplants. These were wee little eggplants the size of ping pong balls smothered in a red curry and served alongside baby corn and snake beans. Lovely flavours but I wished I had a bowl of rice to eat it with. We couldn't go pass the salted pork belly with caramel masterstock. It was nice chunk of pork with perfect strata of crackling, fat and meat. So good. I would be happy if I just ordered this for myself with a bowl of rice. Yes, again with the rice - I'm a carb-centric gal!

Our waitress (Kassy) had a bad attitude and continually rolled her eyes when we asked a question. It seemed everything was an effort to her and some of our order was missing and another staff member had to get it for us. Our drinks were wrong and they wouldn't replace them until they tasted them and agreed. Rice costs $3 per person and with a table of ten $30 for rice is ridiculous. The food was nice but not worth the price and the terrible service.

Really nice to sit outside in nice weather, however I found the food a bit “meh” and overpriced for what it was. The red curry rice balls didn’t have much flavour, neither did the chips. The lamb was quite tasty, but also quite small for the price. I’d probably come here again for a drink or two but not for a meal.

This rating is mostly due to poor service. Our table booking was for 8.15 however it wasn’t ready until close to 9. If you have sittings, then I️ think it’s important to manage customers appropriately. When we were finally seated the waitress asked whether we wanted tap or sparkling, given we were a table of 4 we were consulting one another. She got tired of waiting and left within 20 secs of asking, leaving us with no water till we later asked another waiter. Food good however service was dismal

I went to Bang Bang RC for lunch with a friend on a beautiful day sitting outside. The food was delicious and the service was excellent. The place was quite busy and had a great atmosphere. I had the charred chicken salad which was fantastic, lots of fresh herbs and plenty of chicken. My friend had the lamb bao which she loved. Can't understand the negative reviews - we loved it and as a local I will be back again.

Went there for drinks last night which was all good and well apart from the unfriendly male bar server that would not smile if his life depended on it. He belongs behind a desk away from the public with that attitude. Certainly won’t be back if he’s there.

A good night. definitely some talent in the restaurant, but not consistent across the night. Some of the menu was sublime, some a little bleh...
Cocktails were excellent. The wine list is nice - I was really happy with the semi-sweet Riesling.
We also ordered chips with kaffir lime and Kewpie mayo, which were good in themselves but came alone as an entrée rather than a side dish, before anything else. Really mistimed, although in retrospect we should not have ordered them anyway.
The real entrees (or bites) were betel leaf with ocean trout, which was sublime; and, in contrast, red curry rice balls which were bland and stodgy.
The larger dishes: the chicken was a little bit disappointing. I'm a bad vegetarian who cheats, and meat is a rare thing for me, only on big nights out. This was probably not worth the chicken's (hopefully happy) life. It was fried (not identified as such on the menu), the breast so dry it could choke you, with a lime sauce which tasted a bit like an acidic mango chutney.
The vegetarian dish that we did have - apple eggplant curry - was great. Spicy, fragrant and really interesting textures and flavours. The waiter should have insisted we get rice with it, however, instead of asking if we wanted it. We didn't get it, and it would have benefitted from it. Sometimes a bit of guidance is a good thing!
Service was a bit hit and miss in general - a couple of prompts before we got sparkling water, and not refilled. It felt as if we were forgotten about a little bit.
Dessert was great - black rice with pandan cream and (I think) mango. Brilliant, not overly sweet and creative.
Overall, a good place but I'm not sure I'd return as it is expensive enough to qualify as a special night out, and the food and service doesn't always match this (but sometimes it does match this, so if I hear it is more consistent, or the menu is tweaked a little, I would return).

The food at Bang Bang was great! Thoroughly enjoyed every dish and the wine. The service was impeccable and the outdoor setting is lovely. Bang Bang is definitely one of the best places to eat in the area.

Late and quick dinner. Menus and water arrived as soon as we sat down at our table. Pork scratchings were interesting as a snack while we chose another dish each. Some chicken and octopus - both hot and tasty. Will definitely be back for a bigger meal next time.

Cool vibe and decor, but one 1/5 dishes we ordered were any good (squid, red curry rice balls, turnip and pineapple, massaman curry & shiso salad). I would give it a miss.

Appalling service.
Order hadn't been put through after 45 minutes. Only told when I asked how much longer food would be to be told it would be another 15mins. Unprofessional

Food was nice, but expensive. Music was oppressive, with a DJ throwing down his self-indulgent dank beats from 7pm at a volume that rendered conversation impossible. The venue seems to be having a crisis of identity about whether it is meant to be a restaurant or a nightclub. Won't bother returning.

This place beautiful!! We went when the weather was amazing sat at an awesome table! but - most of the staff here looks half asleep, keep in mind it wasn't that busy at all!! 4 people dining, max. more people came throughout the time we were sitting there, but the staff didn't seem to wale up. the food looked beautiful, as you can see! but the toast was impossible to cut! so will my partner agree. my coffee was really strong. we ordered french fries with a weird seasoning that i didn't really enjoyed. but apart from all the negatives, great vibes and my avo on toast was absolutely beautiful! Thank you chef!

Had drinks here. Giving marks to staff friendliness and ambience. Had mojitos a little on the expensive side. Had a side of duck pâté. Which is stock standard one you can buy in the clay pot from the supermarket. Served with a long toasted bread roll. Hot dog size. Asked for an extra piece of bread and was charged an extra $2:50. You couldn't finish that much pâté on just two pieces of bread. A small rip off I think. Had chicken wings too which were really good.

The four of us were looked after so well on Tuesday by Dexter. All the waiting and bar staff were attentive and knowledgable. The food was interesting and delicious. Definitely going back.

Love this place! Awesome attentive service, friendly staff, delicious food, nice environment! Love that you dont have to wait for a table unlike other over-populated brekky places! Overall, great experience at Bang Bang!
Love All Good Food
Very cool environment, average food, not bad service. But heard a lot of others say the Service is terrible, in this case, I might be one who is lucky, rice bowl at lunch is good value, diner only problem was the steak bit chewy, sashimi was best

Had some drinks here the other night. Service was generally pretty good and friendly, and the drinks menu is extensive and interesting. Can't comment on the food, but it looked good. Will be back to try it.

Crab cakes terrible tasted like anchovies (hairy fish)
Serving of rice for 4 was a tiny bowl .
Rushing us to leave ?
Ordered a fish from the main menu and received a bowl of mint with 2 fish fingers !halfway through the meal had been asked to move tables? And expected us to move them? What is this place? How is this place open ? Service terrible food was plane food !
I have been there 5 times and I must admit I didn't like the breakfast menu at all. However, I visited this place for dinner and lunch and it was different. The place is very cool and relaxing, good for food and drinks. Try mango & sticky rice dessert!

Ordered:
-Duck pate
-Red curry rice balls
-Chargrilled lamb shoulder
-Papaya salad
-Side of steamed bao buns
-Banana roti

-Gemstone Chardonnay
-Delamere Pinot Noir

We didn’t have high expectations for Bang Bang RC based on the average rating but we were keen to give it ago as it seems like a nice addition to the budding food scene around Elsternwick Station.

The staff were attentive and friendly – we got some well-intentioned but endearingly useless advice when we asked how may share plates they would recommend for two - ‘it depends how hungry you are - the dishes are different sizes’.

None of our food was in anyway bad with the exception of the banana roti desert – the roti just didn’t taste fresh. The lamb shoulder was a little dry, which is strange for the cut. Everything else was a little average – the duck pate was fine, the rice balls lacked any stand-out flavour or texture. The Papaya salad was good. The thing I enjoyed most was the Delamere Pinot Noir - the peppery spicy notes were a fantastic compliment to the flavour and spice of the lamb.

The place is aesthetically really nice and were are a number of aspects I liked – being able to pick from a reasonable selection of wines by the half-bottle carafe was nice. I think Bang Bang would be a nice spot for a drink in summer but is a pretty ordinary culinary experience.

Thoroughly enjoyed the good here! Came in for lunch during the week and was surprised that t wasn't busier! Only a couple of tables while we were there.
Staff were friendly and helpful, happy to answer our questions.
Menu seemed like a strange collection of dishes but when the food came out all of it was great! Also, they have a reasonably priced drinks range.
Would definitely recommend.
Dee
Turmeric latte and coffee is great. Fantastic views but the menu is abit too fancy for me. For breakfast I just want bacon and eggs.
Waiting staff are great and have no trouble splitting bills.

This is a wonderful place! Service is welcoming & and attentive. The menu is delicious, colourful & great to share! Well appointed Wine list and lots of drink choices. Open early through to late, wether we've been for coffee, brunch, few drinks, dinner or both , we have always enjoyed our experience. Highly recommended!

We sat down and we're advised by the waiter he would be with us in a few minutes, however we were kept waiting and didn't get served. The place wasn't busy at all, and it seems as though the waiter had forgotten to serve us after quite some time waiting. We walked out without ordering.

Bang Bang and pop!!!! Enjoyed a beautiful tasting menu at this cool eatery... it was Friday, busy and bloody cold but Bang Bang created a comfortable warm environment for what was to come. Each dish seriously danced on your taste buds, from the appetiser that was served on beetle leaf to the pumpkin curry, these dishes were simply delish. Perfect for a birthday celebration or a staff outing. Don't miss out! Much love Ms Gertrude Paris.

Been here twice now, and guys come on, the service is terrible. The waitresses you have there do not look presentable, and just seem like school kids, that don't understand the fine dining you're trying to achieve.
For the price you pay here, there isn't a good feeling when you walk away. It's a shame as it's such a lovely place with lovely decor. Go somewhere else on Glenhuntly Road. Or just for a drink.

Just had an awesome birthday brunch at bang bang. This was our second time here, first time for brunch. Such a great location (30 seconds from the station in Elsternwick) family friendly if you have little ones too. The staff that work there are super friendly, attentive and really know the menu well. The food came out in about 10 minutes too! Most of all it was amazing! Perfect poached eggs, tasty dishes. Definitely running a tight ship in the kitchen! Would recommend heading here for a tasty meal any time of day
Thanks again guys and girls at bang bang!!!!

I ordered iced chocolate and my friend ordered coffee which was not warm enough, had to send it back. My chocolate drink was not good either. Not sure if I will return even after such an attractive set up.

Food and venue are great; but the service? Err, lacking... Ordered our food. 10 mins to get a wine list. Another 10 to order a wine. Another 15 for wine to arrive (lost order apparently). By this time I'd already finished the food I ordered the wine to pair with. Then told "We need to move you to another table soon because we have a large group coming in." right as our mains arrived. Bill shoved onto our table as soon as we'd taken the last bite of our main. We took the hint, paid, and left. 1hr total for what we intended to be a multi-course, boozy date night. Very disappointed and won't be back.

I was looking forward to eating here but was left so disappointed. We had two small share plates and the ribs. Unfortunately our food lacked the Asian flavour it promises which is such a shame as the restaurant looks great. The place was busy, but service was slow, albeit friendly. Overall bang bang does not represent good value for money relative to all the other options across the road, let alone elsternwick/ st kilda.

Quick and pleasant service.

Can't understand why other people are overly sensitive in their reviews. Says something about them.

Had the congee with trout and prawns. For a non-Chinese restaurant it was amazing.

The pricing is market price for decent food.

Since waking in, the wait staff were delightful and warm, decor is trendy and moody, and outdoor area is well heated. I ordered the soft shell grab and it met my expectations! This place is perfect for Sunny weekend brunch.
Mr. Brunch
This review is of my brunch experience here. I know they do dinner as well, but can't speak to that. Had Sunday morning brunch. The location is great and it's a nice modern space situated next to a small park. The breakfast menu was however disappointing. It lacked a basic poached eggs and protein option. I has to get eggs and toast and build from sides. Would you believe the only green item on the sides options was half an avocado. Breakfast menu needs improvement. As much as I love the new fit out, with so many options around for area there is no burning desire to go back soon. Staff were nice and friendly.

Live locally and had dinner when they first opened. Like most new places that get slammed in the first few weeks, it wasn't perfect...but wanting to support local businesses we came back and I'm so happy to say our experience last night was fantastic. Great service, amazing food, awesome help with wine selections and such lovely staff. Absolutely going back. Great to see them busy and doing well. The atmosphere speaks for itself. Packed!

> House made granola with strawberry, lychee, puffed rice crisps, dried mango and avocado on rye with tomato and chili jaew <

The piggies had to go out for breakfast on this beautiful and sunny public holiday. Two very well presented dishes that were very tasty, however, were quite small dishes. We had a really nice experience as we sat outside with the sun beaming on us and a nice park to look at 😊
The breakfastpiggy team

Let's just start by stating this is my first online review, and may be my last...

Arrived, and was seated by a friendly waitress. Was asked the standard would you like a drink? My girlfriend ordered a latte, and I ordered an orange juice. The latte came within 5 minutes which was great, but no orange juice yet.

We decided what we wanted and the waitress came to our table to take our orders. My girlfriend ordered the French Toast, and I ordered the Breakfast Cassoulet, with a side of bacon. Had a few red wines the night before and was craving bacon.

We sat in the cafe and talked about our plans for the weekend... 10 minutes went by, and I got the waitress's attention and asked where my orange juice was. By this stage my girlfriend had finished her coffee. Was given the standard response that it was on its way.

Another 5 minutes and our meals arrived... The french toast looked amazing (and my gf was happy with the meal). While my meal had burnt toast and no side of bacon. I was annoyed but got over the no bacon.. Eating into the sausage it was my delight to find out that it was raw...

Guess what, my orange juice arrived around 20 minutes after I first requested it. I was hoping that the wait would have been worth it.. Nope, received what tasted like a watered down drink that came from a no frills carton of orange juice.

Nothing else worth mentioning. Left after my girlfriends last bite of her food.

I am not sure if this is a new cafe, but they really need to look at improving the kitchen and waiting staff.

Felt rushed! Understandably we had an early seating but going out to a relaxing dinner with friends felt so rushed. It started it off well, was impressed with the venue, the cocktails were delish and the food was amazing but the service really put a damper on the night. We were interrupted constantly in a rushed manner with so many waitresses & waiters at the table. Every time we were getting into a conversation someone else would just cut us off and we never felt really comfortable or relaxed at the table. We were then asked to get the bill and then that took a while and whilst we were waiting we were asked if wanted to move. We would've stayed to have dessert but it was obvious we weren't wanted, nor did we want to be there to spend any more money. Shame....

Bang Bang is a must if you are in the S.E suburbs, beautifully designed space, friendly & attentive staff, great food both during the day & at night time, delicious cocktails. Highly recommend

Let's start with the positives:

Nice ambiance and pleasant interior
Pleasant,friendly and helpful staff
Kingfish Sashimi was delicious
Beef main was good, but not amazing - if this is your hero dish it needs to blow my mind
Regular topups on fizzy water

Now the negatives:

Uncomfortable table with very high chairs (fair enough there are better seats available and we didnt book in advance)
Small portions
Pricey
Chicken main was underwhelming, very bland
Our table was missing a few basics (salt, pepper)

Overall we had a good time but our party of 4 left half hungry and underwhelmed by the food. Not great value for money, dial down the price or dial up the flavour. For the same money there are better alternatives out there.

This was the best meal I've had in a while! Came in with a group of 5 and absolutely loved it. We had the kingfish sashimi, tofu and avocado salad, the papaya slaw, pork hock, soft shell crab curry, grilled hanger steak and stirfried kale and mushrooms. Everything was so delicious..I couldn't even pick a favourite but was surprised at how delicious kale was made to taste! Also tried the black sticky rice for dessert. This was not something I would usually order but was very pleasantly surprised. Service was excellent and super friendly. Cocktails were great too. Thank you bang bang for an incredible meal - we will be back!

We had breakfast here. Very nicely decked out and very nice service. The bean cannoli was very tasty but the avocado on toast was very average, purely because the avocado was not very nice st all, it was tasteless and the 'herbs' weren't on there. The coffee is smooth. I'm keen to try dinner here.

Had dinner last Thursday night and it was delicious!!! Food was super tasty, creative recipes, good size servings... staff were super friendly and the decor is primo! And we were pretty happy with the price too - $158 for two inc three glasses of wine and a mocktail, two tasting dishes, four plates and a (huge!) dessert. Already booked for lunch w mates next month!! Xxxxx

This is a coffee review. I think everyone agrees Bang Bang is an attractive well positioned eatery. But when it comes to their coffee, it's nothing great and very overpriced on a normal day.
Today, Good Friday they added a 15c surcharge on each coffee. So much for good will.
My small very average coffee cost me $5.00. I should have asked for my money back. So normally that's $4.85 for a small! Although I believe it is usually $4.80.
So now, I don't care if the food is good or not. They are expensive and petty.

I always find friendly and attentive service at Bang Bang. Very pleasant for a drink inside. A welcome addition to the area. Like the way it sits over a commons outside.
